Since the publication of 'Recent Readings of Jackson County Cemeteries" in 1992, I have received information from several sources of additional burials in his historic cemetery. While this adds a great deal to our knowledge of burials there, it has been reported that there are many more graves there, filling the allotted spaces, sometimes with burials restoring these grounds, the latest in 1994 and 1997. Many of the graves listed here were never marked, and nearly all of the stones once there are now gone. There were many natives stones as well. The following is a combined list in alphabetical order; the sources are indicated as follows: 1) the reading by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1933 by Miss Julia Kinney and Miss Ethel Merwin; 2) by Victor P. Meador in 1946; 3) data from Mary A. McCrory Wertin, 1997; 4) an old newspaper article written by Ethylene Ballard Thurston, in the Kansas City Star, date unknown; 5) reading by Edna V. Kinnaman in 1940. Researchers owe Miss Kinnaman a huge debt for her efforts to preserve these records.
