Frederick Petersmeyer, born 1825 in Germany, came to America as a young man, settling in Lake County, Indiana. Here he followed the trade of carpenter until his marriage to Caroline Saak, when he became a farmer.
In 1871 he came to Iowa and bought land in Richland Township, Sac County, and in 1872 he brought his family and in a few years he was a man of means and influence in the community. In 1886 he moved into the town of Odebolt.
Frederick and Caroline Petersmeyer were parents of Caroline (Mrs. Henry Frevert); Henry; Flora (Mrs. Walter); August married Wilhelmina Meyer; Fred; Sophia (Mrs. Searight); Emma (Mrs. Cook); Dr. William; Edward; Lydia (Mrs. Roland); Lillian (Mrs. Fred Gilbert); Clare; Alvin; and one who died in infancy.
