ABREY - Geraldine Anne (nee Huber). The death of Geraldine Anne Abrey aged 51 years of Simpson, SK occurred at St. Elizabeth's Hospital Humboldt, SK on Wednesday, June 25, 2003. The Memorial Service will be held in the Simpson Community Centre, Simpson, SK on Monday, June 30th at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Simpson Cemetery. Geraldine is survived by her children Kelly (Rachel) Abrey Lorne & Emma, Kim (Neil) Walters, Alyssa & Nicole, Kenneth Abrey, Karaley Abrey (special friend John Neufeld); sisters Delores Dreidger, Lydia (Mike) Prokop, Fay (Lawrence) Yoner; brother Ken (Dalaine) Huber; mother-in-law Rae Abrey; special friend David McIntosh. Geraldine was predeceased by her mother Emma Huber; husband Lorne; brother-in-law Jack Dreidger; father in law George Abrey. ABREY - Jerry, aged 58 of Kindersley, SK passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Cold Lake, AB. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 28th at 2:00 p.m. in the Simpson Community Centre, Simpson, SK. Interment at a later date. ABREY - Audrey Thelma Rae passed away peacefully August 19, 2018 at the Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility in Imperial, SK. Rae was born on September 19, 1921 in Strasbourg, SK. to Rueben and Mable French. The family moved to Pleasantdale in 1921 where she was raised with her five siblings until the age of 20 when she moved to Simpson. Rae started work at the Grant Hotel where she met the love of her life George Abrey. George and Rae were married on June 24, 1942 and had five beautiful children; Gail, Barbara, Lorne, Jerry and Brenda. Rae and George farmed together for many years, sharing their love for the outdoors. Many different camping and fishing trips were had and along with those trips came a lot of laughs and endless stories. Many of Rae�s hours were spent crocheting and knitting, making countless afghans, doyleys, quilts, etc. that all of her grandchildren still use and cherish to this day. Rae was born with a green thumb and could grow the most beautiful flowers and garden with little to no effort. Rae loved spending her time with friends and loved ones and will be deeply missed by all. Rae was predeceased by her parents Rueben and Mable French, her five siblings, husband George Abrey, sons Lorne and Jerry Abrey, son-in-laws Don Janzen and Don Burkitt, and daughter-in-law Geraldine Abrey. Rae is survived by her children Gail Burkitt (Gilbert), Barb Potts (Brian), Brenda Janzen (Dave McIntosh), daughter-in-law Gail Abrey, grandchildren Deanie McKay (Dale), Duane Burkitt (Cathy), Doug Burkitt (Cora), Rodney Burkitt (Rhonda), Sharon Gust (Daryl Vanthuyne), Jim Burkitt (Shannon), David Burkitt (Myra Back), Donna Bartel (Dean), Fran Potts, Darren Potts (Lehanne), Kelly Abrey (Rachel), Kim Walters (Neil), Kenneth Abrey (Jodi), Karaley Abrey, Lana Abrey (Randy Berg), Jay Abrey (Carrie Rossman), Kevin Janzen, Jody Janzen (Jay), 39 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren. The memorial service was held in Simpson Community Hall on Friday, August 24th, 2018. Interment took place in Simpson Cemetery . ALLEN - Beverly was the first of four children born to his proud and loving parents Edwin and Leavon Allen in Regina, SK on March 3rd, 1951. Growing up in Simpson, SK, he became enamoured with the local apothecary and developed a fascination with the pharmaceutical profession at a young age. In his own words, "I am not sure if it was originally the enticement of the ice cream and treats at the soda fountain or the mystery about what went on in the back room where pharmacists concocted prescriptions written by the physicians for their patients. I was possessed with the idea of someday being able to understand more about this profession, its secrecy and the fact that although I was raised on a farm, I was encouraged to go to university and get a degree". Bev entered the College of Pharmacy at the University of Saskatchewan in 1969, during which time he met the love of his life, Pat Moffat whom he later married in the summer of 1971. Bev finished his degree in 1973, and took work in community pharmacies until he opened his own business in 1977. By 1982, Bev and Pat's family had grown to 6, with the additions of Jodi, Jennifer, Charlie and John. In the years to follow, the Allen family would partake in many adventures together including countless hours traveling in Suburbans, listening to music and discovering the world. Gradually, family activities migrated to their future home, a lakefront property at Fishing Lake, where they shared many more wonderful memories. As it was with his profession, Bev's life work was centered around the chance to give something back. Over the years he was involved in the recreation and home and school associations, various hockey and soccer teams, and many other community based activities, including a few infamous College Park block parties. In 1992, Allen Drugs closed its doors and soon after an opportunity presented itself for Bev to share his passion and knowledge of his profession by taking on an Assistant Professor position at the U of S. Bev was the clinical coordinator of the Structured Practice Experiences Program and instrumental in its success. He found it extremely rewarding to work with the students. Bev's work was a labour of love and he was involved in and took presidency of both provincial and national pharmacist associations. His professional accolades were many, including a Pillar of Pharmacy award in 2010 for life-long commitment and contribution to the profession of pharmacy in Canada. Just recently, he was extremely touched to learn that he will receive an Honorary Life Membership Award from the Canadian Pharmacists Association. Bev's greatest joy was his growing family and his role as "Poppa". Together Poppa and his little ones enjoyed movies, popcorn, music, the lake and time just spent being together. Music played a significant role in Bev's life. He played numerous instruments, sang, and was famous for playing along with his favorite songs by ear on the piano. Most importantly his passion for music has been handed down to his family. Bev's presence in both his personal and professional life will be felt forever. Bev's legacy is cherished by his family; his wife Pat, daughters Jodi and Jennifer (James), sons Chuck (Jennifer) and John (Meghan), precious grandchildren Jaedyn, Bree, Jenna, Michaela, and Kelan, his father Edwin, sisters Yvette (George), Brenda (Merle), Drena (Terry), sister-in-law Jean (Dennis) and his many special nieces and nephews. Bev's many friends were equally important. Bev's strength and courage were a constant in his life, most significantly in his battle with his illness. His positive outlook and determination was inspirational to all those around him. He refused to allow his illness to define him and his final moments were peaceful, with his wife and children by his side. His family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Goubran, Dr. Sabry, and to the many nurses and professionals who cared for him. In particular, special thanks to the chemotherapy nurses, the nurses in ODC, and the palliative care nurses. Words cannot express how invaluable the support of family and friends has and will continue to be. A service of celebration will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23rd, 2013 at the Saskatoon Inn (2002 Airport Drive). ALLEN - Edwin Charles of Watrous, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, at the age of 91 years. Edwin was born May 30,1926 at Simpson (SW 5 �29 �25 W 2nd), the youngest child of Charles and Vera Allen. He married the love of his life Leavon Gibbs on February 24, 1949. Edwin was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved having his family together. Edwin and Leavon enjoyed almost 52 years of marriage and were thankful for a healthy and happy family. Edwin loved music and dancing. Time spent camping with family and travelling were important and trips to Maui were treasured and also farming and woodworking. Predeceased by his wife, Leavon, son, Beverly Edwin Allen, great-grandson Kelan Roy Allen; parents Charles and Vera Allen; sisters Elsie (Albert) Pieper and Beatrice (Court) Crew. A Memorial Service was held at the Simpson Community Centre on Friday, November 24, 2017 officiated by Rev. Marie-Louise Ternier. Interment took place in Watrous Cemetery. BEARSS - Anne Louise (nee Craib) (September 24, 1930 � September 27, 2017) of Simpson, SK passed away peacefully at the Long Lake Integrated Facility in Imperial, SK at the age of 87. She was predeceased by her late husband William Bearss (1966). She is survived by her children, Diane (Neil) Anderson, Conrad (Lina) Bearss and Penny (Peter) Clark, grand and great grand children, Bobbi (Alex), Brett and Nate, Wendi (Scott), Avery, Maya and O'Neill, Rhauni (Brandon), Chaz and Kye, Anna (Brandon), Cohen, Rayn (Vince), Jaks, Mickey and Chess, Billy (Jess), Addison and Rowan, Robin Clark and Andrea (Rob) Watson, Shaina and Kyle. Anne is also survived by her twin sister Audrey Bryd. Anne attended Spratsville School in Girvin, SK with her brother Robert and sisters Evelyn, Eunice, Doris, Audrey and Shirley. She married Bill in 1951 and they farmed west of Simpson on the Bearss family farm and when Bill passed Anne continued farming with her son Con. Anne worked hard all her life at farming, gardening, bartending and as a caregiver. She loved curling, watching or playing and especially loved spending time with her grandkids, family and friends. Anne always wore a smile and loved to laugh. She had a unique gift for making people feel special and welcomed everyone into her home (and they were not to leave without having a beer with her). BEARSS - Helen (nee Richey). The death of Helen Bearss (nee Richey) age 93 years occurred at the Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility Imperial, Sk., on Wednesday May 16, 2001. She was a long time resident of Simpson. Helen was born on July 31, 1907 to Richard (Dick) and Christina (Tean) Richey, on their homestead east of Simpson. Helen is survived by her three daughters, Dorothy (Earl) Ostland of Saskatoon Sk., MaryAnn (Glen) McDade of Simpson Sk., and Doreen (Clayton) McCallum of Mankota Sk., sister Agnes Hoornaert of Simpson, Sk., daughter in law Ann Bearss of Simpson Sk., sister in law Margurite Richey of Regina Sk., 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Helen was predeceased by her husband Jim (1974), her son Bill (1966), her father Richard (Dick) Richey (1957), mother Christina (Tean) Richey (1959), her brother Bill (1993) as well as 2 grandsons Earl Ostland (Jan 1950) and Bartley McCallum (Nov 1962). Helen was a long time member of the Simpson Homemakers club and served on the Simpson Co-op board. She was an avid baseball and hockey fan and enjoyed going to many sports days to watch baseball and took in many hockey games. At Helen's requrest a private family graveside service was held at the Simpson Cemetery on May 19, 2001. BEARSS - Jackson (1954-2017). Our hearts are heavy with sadness as we share the news that our dear Jackson lost his two-year battle with melanoma cancer. He fought with the same grit and determination that he lived his life. Reginald Jackson Bearss was born December 2, 1954, the youngest of six children. He is survived by his wife Jeanette, son Riley, daughter Lindsay and grandchildren Lilandra and Kala, sisters Nadine, Margie, Bonnie and Janette as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends spread across this beautiful planet. He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Alice Bearss and brother Ed Bearss. We will miss his caring and soft demeanour, his humour and his love for his family. He was dedicated to his successful drywall business, Jackson Drywall in Canmore, Alta., which he operated for 25 years in the Bow Valley of the Canadian Rockies. He was passionate about skiing, biking, golfing, hiking . . . anything that involved the outdoors. A celebration of his life was held at the Canmore Miners� Union Hall on Tuesday, September 26. We ask that you honour Jackson�s life by planting a bee loving, bird loving plant or tree in remembrance of him. BEAULIEU - Margot (nee Norum) Beaulieu. Peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2011, Margot Norum Beaulieu of Indian Head, SK., died at the age of 90 years at the Veterans' Village, Sherbrooke Centre, Saskatoon, SK. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Indian Head, SK., on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Nordal Cemetary, Simpson, SK. Margot was predeceased by her husband William Victor Beaulieu and parents Oscar and Amanda Norum. BEAULIEU - William Victor. Suddenly on Wednesday, October 10, 2006, William Victor Beaulieu beloved husband of Margot Beaulieu, Indian Head, Sask. died at the age of 83 years. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Indian Head, Sask. on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. by the Rev. Jose (Jojo) Tejada. BERTING - Norbert Joseph. The death of Norbert Joseph Berting, aged 85 years, of Imperial and formerly of Simpson, Saskatchewan occurred peacefully at Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. The Memorial Service will be held in the Simpson Community Centre on Monday, June 14th at 10:00 a.m. Norbert was born on September 4, 1924 to August and Helena Berting of St. Gregor. He took his schooling at St.Gregor and continued at Diamond Willow. Norbert worked at home and later hired out at various jobs. In 1953 he moved to Imperial and later to Simpson. He was employed with B.C.A.M. construction until he took ill in 1978. Due to his illness he was unable to work. He lived with his mom until her passing in 1987. Norbert then had an auction sale and retired to the nursing home. Norbert was an avid hockey fan, he went to many games in different towns. He used to go for walks and always had a bright orange coat and cap on. Norbert is survived by one sister Helen Bernauer of LeR oy, and one sister-in-law, Marg Berting of Yorkton and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Norbert was predeceased by his parents, August and Helena Berting, three sisters, one brother , four brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, and one nephew; Agnes (Ivan) Oakes, Eleanora (Lorne) Strome,Regina (Vernon) Nolting, Hubert (Lillian) Berting, David Berting and Wilfred Bernauer. Interment in Simpson Cemetery. BINDING - Beverley Mae (nee Sivertson). The death of Mrs. Beverly Mae Binding aged 74 years of Viscount, SK occurred at Watrous Union Hospital on Sunday December 27, 2009. She is survived by her loving family; Leslie (Ken) Farago, Evan (Sandra) Reid, Cindy Tallock, Shane (Janice) Reid, Chris Reid, Roxanne (Lawrence Fisher) Livingston, Rhett (Colleen) Binding and Ronnie Binding; 27 grand and nine great grandchildren; brothers, Stan (Terry) Sivertson, Darryl (Pam) Sivertson; sisters, Martha (John) Morrow and Sharon (Glen) Cunningham. BLOW - Ralph Norman (June 23, 1924 - January 8, 2006) aged 81 of Saskatoon and formerly of Simpson. Ralph was predeceased by his parents: Frederick and Florence Blow; wife, Laura; son, Norman; granddaughter, Natashia; brothers: Frank, John and David. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Garry Blow; daughters: Leane (Arnold) Volk and Laurie Cline; grandchildren: Sharmaine, Julian and Daniel Blow, Kathleen and Michael Volk and Dylan and Brady Cline; great granddaughter, Selma Volk; sisters: Edna Kilvert and Kathleen (Russel) Rutherford; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Memorial Service will be held in St. John's United Church on Friday, January 13th at 1:00 p.m. with interment in Simpson Cemetery. BOND - Mary (nee Grimm) February 2, 1941 - December 27, 2012. Mary Bond passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the age of 71. She is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Cheryl (Garth) Cowling and their son Easton; son Richard and his daughter Emma; sister Helen Grimm; brother Ed (Iris) Grimm and nephew Trevor. A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with Sister Melvina Hruska officiating. BURBRIDGE - Jean Eileen Freeze (nee McIntosh) passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of Thursday, November 20, 2003, at Manitou Lodge, in Watrous, SK. Jean was born April 5, 1913 at Simpson, SK. She worked at Nokomis Hospital, and then at the Watrous Hospital, in her early years. She attended Regina Business College, and worked as a telephone operator in Kerrobert, SK. On November 16, 1940, she married Harold E. Burbridge, and became a permanent resident of Watrous. She was a long-standing member of the United Church and the UCW, circle #3 until August of this year when she became ill. She loved to bake, read and grew beautiful flowers. When her girls got older she went back to work and became chief telephone agent in Watrous, for a number of years until the office was moved to Saskatoon. She was a wonderful and doting mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Harold E. Burbridge, May 13, 1995; her mother, Isabella Harriet McIntosh, February 1, 1972; her father, Francis Robert McIntosh, July 15, 1955; a brother, Jim McIntosh, February 11, 1975; and a brother, Eldon McIntosh, May 30, 1992; brothers-in-law, Howard Burbridge and Mel Felstrom; and sisters-in-law, Gladys Burbridge and Lillian Felstrow. Jean is survived by her daughters, Sylvia Proke (special friend, Don) and Dianne Richard; and her son-in-law, Wilf Richard. Nana/Greatnana was always loved and adored and will be forever missed by her grandson, Tim Proke; granddaughter, Shauna Vos, (Brian) great-grandchildren Sara and Benjamin Vos, and by her grandson, Kim Richard, (Barbara) granddaughters, Maria Richard, great grandson Michael Richard and granddaughter, Lisa Leslie (Jeff). Jean is also survived by two brothers, Robert (Agnes) McIntosh, of Watrous, and Bill McIntosh of Simpson, SK; as well as several nieces and nephews on both the McIntosh and Burbridge sides of the family. Sylvia and Dianne would like to thank Dr. Van der Westhuizen for his wonderful care and Sharon and Leslie in the office. Special thanks also to the nursing staff at Watrous Hospital, Nokomis Health Centre and most especially everyone at Manitou Lodge. We would also like to thank Linda McIntosh (niece-in-law) for moving her from Nokomis back to Watrous, where she wanted to be. BUSSE - Thelma Jean Busse (Archer) passed on on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility, Imperial, Sask. Thelma was born near Kedleston, Sask. August 10, 1927 to John and Wilhelmina Archer (nee Davidson). She was the third of 12 children. As a young child, Thelma was often looked after by her Aunt Lawson (nee Davidson) and Uncle Dan Rose and their daughter Helen. At the age of six Thelma went to live with them. Helen was an extra sister for Thelma and the two of them remained very close. Thelma graduated from Liberty School. She went to Normal School in Moose Jaw and received her teaching certificate. Her first teaching job was in Alameda, Sask. Her second teaching job was in Amazon, Sask. where she met her husband William Allan Busse, or Al as he was known. They were married Oct. 15, 1949 at Liberty, Sask. They raised their family of three children on the home farm raising grain and livestock. They moved to Simpson in 1972 and Watrous in 2006. Allan passed away Sept. 15, 2007. Thelma then moved to the long-term care facility in Imperial, Sask. in 2007. Thelma will be remembered for her love of camping, her close friends and coffee parties, card games, the beautiful handiwork she created and her dry sense of humour. She was always ready for a good laugh. She enjoyed sharing this humour with the customers during her nine years working at the Simpson Co-op. Thelma and Al spent many happy hours playing cards and travelling with friends. They explored across Canada and the USA (often in their camper van) venturing off to New Zealand, Jamaica, Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Scotland, England and Ireland. They belonged to the Flying Farmers, and although Thelma didn't love the flying, she enjoyed the people she met and spending time with Al. She was an active member of the United Church and a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Thelma's great love was her 10 grandkids. She was a very active grandma, always happy to see one of the kids show up on her doorstep. Grandma always had a snack, a place to hang out until after school activities started, and time to play a game of cards or crib. Thelma was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Hazel, Grace, Florence, Beth, Mary, brothers Fred and Dick, her brother-in-law George and his wife Toots, her sister-in-law Ernestine, and granddaughter Brett Busse. Those left to remember her are sons: Glen (Sherrie), Craig (Patti), and daughter Eleanor (Brian Klassen); her grandchildren: Heath Busse (Josh Rimer), Charlotte Busse, Shannon (Brendan) Busse-Fricker, Lexi Busse and Sawyer Busse, Michael Busse (Samantha Cleghorn), Rae Busse, Carmen (Kevin) Douglas, and Kendel Busse, as well as six great-grandchildren, William, Angela and Elliott Fricker, Chase, Max and Isabel Douglas, sisters Elsie, Norma, Welda, Helen Marie, and chosen sister Helen Woolsey and large extended family. A private family memorial was held with interment in Simpson Cemetery. CHARPENTIER - Joyce Isabel (nee Austin). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Joyce Isabel Charpentier on January 19, 2009. She was born in Penzance, Saskatchewan, on November 28, 1920 and was raised on the family farm west of Simpson. While working in Regina during the Second World War, she met Reg Charpentier, and shortly after, they married. They lived in Yorkton, moved to Toronto after the war, and in 1958, moved to Meadow Lake. They lived there until Reg's death in 1986, after which Joyce moved to Saskatoon to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Although she had worked at the Meadow Lake Credit Union and Meadow Lake Co-op, she had kept busy as a mother and homemaker. She was a Brown Owl, and became the Girl Guides Commissioner for her region. While in Saskatoon, she served as Treasurer for the Saskatoon Symphony Volunteers. She loved to bake, sew, knit, crochet, embroider and do needlepoint. She loved gardening, flowers, and especially her African violets. She loved to travel. She loved all of her family unconditionally, and she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, and even more so for her great-grandchildren. Mum did not tell us how to live; she showed us how, by rising above every difficulty placed in her path. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Will and Alice Austin of Simpson and her husband, Reg. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Marg Austin of Scarborough, Ontario. He enjoyed traveling throughout Canada and England. After his retirement he became an avid woodworker making many works of art with his woodlathe. His love of farming extended to his garden and yard. His garden provided produce for many people in the community. The picturesque yard caught the eye of all passers by. CRAWFORD - Beth (nee Roney) April 17, 1940 � February 11, 2014. It is with heavy hearts that the family of Beth Crawford announces her passing on Tuesday February 11, 2014 at the Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility, Imperial SK. Beth was born on April 17, 1940 in Imperial to Bob and Margaret Roney. As a young girl, Beth lived on the family farm west of Imperial and had very fond memories of her time at Rolling Ridge. The family moved to Nipawin for a short period of time before settling back in Imperial. After high school Beth worked for the Royal Bank in Regina and fostered some lifelong friendships during that time. Beth met Glenn Crawford in the summer of 1960 and they were married in the summer of 1962. Beth and Glenn lived in several communities before settling in Simpson. Family was of utmost importance to Beth, whether it was her immediate or extended family. She was very adept at all that she did (sewing, knitting, canning, ceramics, cooking, baking, gardening, golfing, bowling, and curling) and her skill enhanced the family home. Beth�s love of humour, determined spirit, and curiosity made for a lively and laughter filled home. Beth was predeceased by her parents Bob and Margaret Roney, 3 brothers, Allan, Cliff, and Barry, brother-in-law Cliff Hanna, neice Caren Hanna, and great neice (in infancy) Amanda Van Damme. She is survived by her loving husband, Glenn, and their 4 children, Blair (Lori), Linda (Karl), Susan, Maxine (Todd). Crawford passed away March 9, 2012 at the age of 91 with her family at her side. Janet was born on Sept. 30, 1920 and grew up on a farm in the Kenaston area. On May 30, 1944, Janet married Harold Schatz and lived in the Horseshoe District. They adopted a daughter Heather in 1948. Harold passed away in 1959 and Janet and Heather moved to Kenaston where Janet worked for Hamre�s store. Janet then met George Crawford and they were married in 1960. She became a farmer�s wife until George�s passing in 1980. Janet then moved to Davidson. She worked at the local restaurant in Davidson as a cook for a few years until retirement. Janet moved to Medicine Hat in 2006 where she resided until her passing. Janet was always helping out at the farm whether it be in the field or cooking meals for the crew. She always had lots of food and made sure no one left the table hungry. In her retirement years she loved to go for coffee and she and her sister Audrey were always at �coffee row� in the morning. Audrey and Janet would hop on a bus tour and see different places as well as hop in the car and go out to Medicine Hat to visit Janet�s daughter Holly. They would drive over to Simpson and check out the crops and make sure Jim was doing everything right. Janet loved being with her grandchildren and always took time out to visit with them. Janet was predeceased by her first husband Harold Schatz in 1959 and her second husband George Crawford in 1980, plus one son Murray, her parents Jim and Eliza Firby, one infant sister Greta, sisters Nellie, Mickey (Delia) and Shirley and brother Fred. She is survived by her children: Heather Schatz, Jim (Holly), Holly (James), Louise (Ray), Linty (Veronica), Hughie (Janet), Ressa (Kris) and Owen as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. (February 11, 1931 - December 25, 2013). It is with profound sadness that the family of Ralph H. Crawford announces his passing on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, SK. Ralph was born on February 11, 1931 in the town of Davidson, SK to Hugh and Cora Crawford. Ralph lived on the farm west of Simpson before moving to the town of Simpson, SK at the age of 15. He graduated from high school in 1948. After school, Ralph farmed and spent time in Ontario and BC working a variety of jobs, including as a telegraph operator for CPR. In July of 1958, Ralph married Shirley J. Crawford, nee French. Ralph later completed his B.A. from the U of S and his B.S.W. from UBC before going on to work in Corrections for the Government of Saskatchewan. Ralph served as both the Director of the Pine Grove Correctional Centre from 1973 to 1977 and the Prince Albert Provincial Correctional Centre from 1977 to 1987. After retiring from Corrections, Ralph was an instructor at SIAST in Prince Albert from 1987 to 1992. Ralph and Shirley then returned to the farm in Simpson before moving to Saskatoon in 2011. Ralph loved to travel, spend time at the family cabin at Weyakwin, and winter in Arizona and Vancouver Island. His sense of adventure and enduring wit and strength will be remembered by all that knew him. Ralph was predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Cora Crawford, his brothers, George and Gordon, and his grandson, Benjamin. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, and their three children, Greg (Wendy), Karen Crawford Hambly (Stu), and Grant (Julie). Ralph will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Maggie, Jeffrey, Katie, Tessa Hambly, and Kyla Hambly. Also surviving Ralph are his brothers, Harold, Allan, Roy, Glenn, and numerous other family members and friends. CRAWFORD - Shirley A. Crawford (nee Taylor) passed on Friday, June 20, 2008 at the age of 72. Shirley lived her life for others. Family, friends and community were so important to her. She always had her doors open and the coffee on. She loved a good card game, laughing, dancing and life's simple pleasures. She may have cursed the wind, but she loved her life on the farm. Shirley was an integral part of her, and husband Allan's farm operation. She offered her opinions on the finances and operations and would even operate the equipment as a last resort. Shirley spent many winters in Saskatoon, as well as a few in Toronto and Arizona, but these were never quite like home. As a loving mother and devoted wife, Shirley was immensely proud of, and very protective, of her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Of course, her little dog Ellie was a special part of the family too. As much as we all will miss her cinnamon buns and garden goulash, it is her generous heart and witty sense of humor we will miss the most. Shirley was predeceased by; her father Bill Taylor; her granddaughter Kara-Jo Trofimenkoff, her brother Lorne Taylor, her brothers in law George Crawford, Gordon Crawford and Roy McCallum. CURRIE - Marion Patricia (nee Hicks) Currie passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the age of 80 years. Pat was born June 3, 1933 to Helen and Lorne Hicks. She grew up in Simpson, Sask. with extended family and many friends. A handsome young man who played the sax with the Hicks Orchestra caught her eye and in 1953 Pat married Stan Currie. They lived in Moose Jaw and soon centered their lives on their four sons. Pat and Stan provided a home of opportunity, security and challenge for their boys, and happy memories of their mom and dad come easily at this time. As the boys left home for adult lives, Pat worked for the Moose Jaw Catholic Schools as a librarian. Pat and Stan retired to Vernon, British Columbia where they enjoyed the company of friends, of Dot and Bill, of Ray and LaReine, and of visiting family. It was at this time that Pat began a long and determined struggle with Multiple Myeloma and Parkinson's. They returned to Saskatchewan where, against all expectations, together they shared in the growing years of their five grandkids, seeing all of them become adults. Pat is predeceased by her parents; her aunt, Margaret Gibbs; infant sister, Donna; brothers, Howard and Don; and by her youngest son, Dale. She is remembered with love by her husband, Stan; her sons, Wade, Neil and Grant; daughter-in-law, Jean, Lyn; and grandchildren, Ewan, Shamus, Chad, Heather and Paige. She will be missed by her siblings and their families, Mona and Marcel, Ken and Carol, Rick and Lolly, and Caroline. Many friends from Moose Jaw were important to Mom all her life. She was a Kinette, a frequenter of the music festivals, and a charter gabber of "Club". She enjoyed many people through Stan's trapshooting and the boys' activities. She was never fazed by an invasion of a dozen or two young people into her basement and refrigerator. DREGER - Lorna Evelyn Beatrice (nee Vaughn) March 8, 1933 - January 28, 2013. Lorna was born in Saskatoon and took all her schooling in Simpson. In 1950 she married Bob Dreger and they raised nine children. Throughout her life Lorna always had a large garden, did lots of canning and was fond of her flower garden. Always was an animal lover, had many pets throughout her life, but especially loved her dogs. Lorna loved to play cards with her family and did up until getting sick. Lorna was predeceased by her parents Atha and Harrison, husband Bob, son Ricky and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. ELDER - Kenneth Elder (1930 - 2010) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and papa on Wednesday, March 10th, 2010 at RUH after a brief illness --- his family by his side. Ken W. Elder was born on December 4th, 1930 at Simpson, SK to Alfred and Mary Elder. He was the youngest of six children. Ken completed his grade twelve in Simpson and, following his teacher's training in Moose Jaw, he taught for two years in Vantage, SK. Ken returned to the family farm at age twenty to temporarily assist with the farm due to his father's advancing illness. This temporary stay lasted sixty years. Ken married Lois Nordlund on July 5th, 1958 and they proceeded to make their home on the farm, and in Saskatoon during the winter in later years. Ken was a well respected neighbour who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Ken was an active member of local Credit Union, Co-op, and church boards and acted as the Long Lake School Division Board Representative for many years. Ken served as a Saskatchewan Wheat Pool delegate and director for twenty five years. He was proud to receive the Co-op Merit Award and the Century Family Farm Award. Ken enjoyed sports and played hockey with the Simpson Flyers for many years. He also excelled at ball, curling and basketball. He was a devoted Saskatchewan Roughrider fan, often being the first one in his family to make it up those ramps to his seat. Even during his stay in hospital, he wanted daily reports on any Rider player moves! Ken's passions were his family and his farm. Many hours were spent in his shop; he especially enjoyed a repair challenge. He had a great sense of humour and was known for his quick wit and 'one-liners'. Ken had a talent for writing poetry and public speaking. Nobody enjoyed a debate on farm politics or current events more than he did. He was an avid reader and spent countless hours on crossword puzzles, word jumbles and cryptoquips. Ken loved dogs and cats, especially his loyal friend Shivers who spent much of this winter curled up on Ken's chest. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Mary; brothers, Alf and Jim and sister, Elma. He will be missed by his two sisters, Flora Cusack of Winnipeg and May Ostlund of Regina; sister-in-law, Mary Elder of Calgary; his loving wife of fifty-two years, Lois; son, Stewart (Char) of Simpson and their children, Josh and Kirsten; son, Ross (Barb) of Viscount and her daughters, Jen and Shauna; and daughter, Tanys (Jason Sherstobetoff) of Blaine Lake and their children, Austin, Zoie and Anna. FEDERSPIEL - Brian (April 28, 1942 � May 13, 2019) Brian Federspiel, aged 77 years, of Simpson, SK passed away at Watrous District Health Complex, Watrous, SK on Monday, May 13, 2019. Brian was raised in Stalwart and took most of his schooling there. He attended Grade 12 in Liberty and then went to teacher's college in Regina. He taught school in Orkney, Sask for one year and then returned to Stalwart to farm with his dad. He also was a fuel truck driver for Imperial Coop. He married Sandra Code in 1965, they had two children Tracy and Tammy. In 1969 he moved the family to Calgary where they resided until 1999. Brian and Sandra returned to Simpson in 1999. Brian enjoyed his garden and his best times were spent going to his nephews farm to help out. Marion passed away Friday June 22, 2012, at Luther Special Care Home. Marion is loved and remembered by her daughter Monica, son-in-law Jim Beck and her precious grandchildren; Sarah, Ryan and Ryan's wife Donna. Marion is survived by her sisters, Carrie Bradley, Myrtle Strachan, Edith Schenstead, Myra Booth; her brother, Herbie Adams, her sister-in-law, Grace Adams and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1998, her parents John and Mary Adams, sisters and brothers-in-law, Alma (Ernie) Biesenthal, Dorothy (Joe) Exner, Vennetta Adams, brother, Norton Adams as well as brothers-in-law Art Bradley, Ross Strachan, Harold Schenstead, Gib Booth and sisters-in-law Ida (Lee) Holmes and Ethel (Claude) Scott. Mom was born in Mankota, SK and spent her early years on the farm in the Simpson area. Mom and Dad were married in April 1944 and moved to Saskatoon where they built a house in North Park. Mom lived in their home for 65 years. Over the years she worked in dry goods retail where she met and made many friends. Starting when they were first married, the family made car trips every summer including frequent trips to southern Idaho. They travelled to all parts of Canada and all corners of the United States making many great memories along the way. Mom loved to play cards, square dance, bowl and most of all to plant her garden. Her greatest joy in the last 30 plus years was her grandchildren Sarah and Ryan.'Mom you were my best girl friend.'We would like to express our appreciation for the wonderful care extended to Marion by all the staff at Luther Special Care Home and to Dr. Laurie Vassos and Dr. Ken Bayly. FREEMAN -Kenneth, aged 93 years, passed away peacefully at the Watrous District Health Complex (Manitou Lodge) on Friday, September 1, 2017. Ken was born October 23, 1923 at Simpson (SE 18-29-25 W2), the youngest child of David and Sarah (Beale) Freeman. He married the love of his life, Marguerite (Turcotte) on January 21, 1946. Ken had an interesting and varied life. He farmed, then he decided he would buy grain with the McCabe Grain Company (later UGG). Once again, he made a career change and began working at the Simpson Credit Union becoming manager and continuing in this position until his retirement after 17 years. Ken was always a volunteer in the community of Simpson and spent a number of years as coach or manager of the Simpson Flyers Hockey Team, during which time the Flyers were provincial "D" champs, a source of pride for him. He was also on numerous boards and served in various capacities. He was the mayor of Simpson for a number of years. Ken spent precious time with family especially during seeding and harvest helping when called upon. He also enjoyed any family get-together. The grandchildren each have their favourite memories as he took them (two at a time) on vacation trips with him. We will always remember his whistling, singing and great love of poetry. Ken is survived by his sons Gabriel (Paula), George (Yvette) and his daughter Patricia Klenk; his grandchildren Greg (Rachelle - Nicolas, Caleb and Arielle); Derek (Laurie - Jenna); Curtis (Julie - Riley); Randy (Sara - Zak and Kira); Denny (Joslin - Kayden, Rylan and Kylee); Kelly (Jen - Kohen and Brady); Tyler and Kerry Freeman; Kenneth (Adelle - Landon and Jordan) Klenk; Karen Klenk (Bryden, Cole, and Logan); sisters-in-law Rita Turcotte, Germaine Turcotte and brother-in-law Ray Benoit, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his parents, loving wife Marguerite, son-in-law Marvin Klenk, brother Jack (Janet), sisters Grace (Clarence) Alton, Lillian (Richard) Clark, Irene (Timothy) Clark and in-laws Rita Benoit, Osias and Gertrude Roy, Gabriel, Joseph and Anatole Turcotte as well as a niece, Caroline Abrey and great-nephews Dean Heinrichs and Todd Pidhorodetsky. FRENCH - Vernon Ross "Vern" (May 28, 1929 � March 13, 2015). It is with great sadness and much love that the family of Vernon Ross French of Watrous, SK. announces his passing on March 13, 2015 at the age of 85. Vernon was born to the late Benjamin and Pearl French, on May 28, 1929 in Simpson, Sask. He was the fourth in a family of nine. He began his working life at a very young age in a difficult time in our history and continued steadfast until his retirement. He met Jean Ross in Imperial and they were married in November 1952. They moved to Regina soon after and raised their two daughters and son there. In 1973 Vernon and Jean moved to Edmonton, Alberta and he took an opportunity to further his career as a Heavy Equipment Operator with International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955, and was a member for 42 years. He was one of the operators instrumental in the early days of building Syncrude in Fort McMurray. Vernon and Jean were married for 38 years, until her passing in August of 1990. He married his second wife Joanna (McIntosh) in April of 1992, in Watrous. They returned to Edmonton for a short time and after Vern�s retirement moved to Preeceville, SK. and were there for several years before finally moving to Watrous. He enjoyed his later years, living near his hometown and being close to his siblings and their families. Vernon is survived by his second wife, Joanna French; his three children Debra Braden, Verna (Phillip) McNabb and Brent (Michelle) French; grandchildren Ty (Susy) Braden, Rhys McNabb, Amanda (Mark) Alexander, Brendan French, Emma French; his great-grandchildren Will and Joey Braden; his step-children Karla (Ron) McIntosh, Tracey (Michael) Freed, Krista McIntosh (Greg Staines) and Colin McIntosh (Ron Paul); grandchildren Terence (Kayla) Jorgensen, Jaxon and Keeli Jorgensen, Kalen and Jordi Freed, Maja, Jade, Callie McIntosh; his sisters Irene Galt, Audrey McCallum, Shirley Crawford and Myrna Rink. He was predeceased by his first wife Jean French and siblings Arnold French, Reta Sivertson, Stan French and Hazel French; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. GALT - James "Jim". Jim was born on October 14 1924 on the family farm near Renown. He passed peacefully in his sleep on April 27 2014 at 89 years of age. Predeceased by his parents James and Joan and his two sisters Sophia and Agnes. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Irene. Two sons, Claire of Watrous and Ken(Brenda) of Regina. Three granddaughters, Tricia Gibson(Devon and Aidan) of Delta, BC. Dawn Galt(Kaesha and Logan) of Regina and Danielle Galt of Regina. Jim was born and raised in the Renown district. He moved to Simpson for work where he met Irene French. They were married in October of 1948 and were blessed with two sons Claire and Ken. He owned and operated the garage in Simpson before he sold out and moved to Thompson Manitoba, eventually returning to Watrous as supervisor of Hertz Bus until his retirement in 1985 when he devoted his time to his herd of Limousin cattle. In 2005 Jim and Irene sold the cattle and retired into Watrous where they enjoyed their retirement until Jim's health failed and he moved into Manitou Lodge where he resided for the last 18 months. The family would like to thank the staff at Manitou Lodge for their kindness and compassion shown to Jim as his disease slowly stole him from us. GARNER - Sally Doreen (nee Waldner) September 7, 1930 - March 28, 2014. On Friday, March 28th, Doreen passed away peacefully at the Watrous Hospital surrounded by her family. Son of the late Durham Kippen Garner and Margaret Campbell. Survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Betty) King of Regina, Sask., as well as many nieces and nephews. Born in Simpson, Sask., he served with the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War, following which, he had a distinguished career as a professor at Manitoba, Alberta and Carleton Universities and as a Senior Public Servant in the Federal-Provincial Relations Office of the Department of Finance. He will be greatly missed by his many friends in the Ottawa area and by his family in Saskatchewan. Growing up he attended school in Simpson, at the age of 18 Bob endured a severe injury to his knee, but this never restricted him in life. He lived his life doing what he loved; farming and raising livestock, using horses and his beloved border collie dogs. Bob was honoured by the Canadian Limousin Association for his early involvement and dedication to expanding the breed in Canada. His passion for farming lived with him to the end. On Saturday, June 30, 2012, Margaret, the cornerstone of our family, passed away peacefully with family around her, reuniting with her beloved husband Wilbur at Heaven's gate after 36 years. Margaret was born on May 16, 1926 to William and Anna Diamond in Watrous, SK. She met and then married Wilbur Gibbs on September 4, 1946. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Simpson, SK and surrounding area and finally settled in Regina in 1969. She was predeceased by her parents William and Anna; husband Wilbur; son Wilbur in infancy; brothers Lowell and Billy; sister Crit; and son-in-law Dale. Margaret leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Nadine (James) Knoblauch; Dennis (Liz) Gibbs; Barry (Beryl) Gibbs, Lou Gibbs (Jackie), Leanne Fjalstad, Carla (Malcolm) Boudreau, Greg (Danila) Gibbs; 19 grandhcildren, 18-great grandchildren; sister Monica McGeough as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Margaret enjoyed many activities like playing the piano in several bands for senior citizen homes, doing crosswords, baking her famous pies and buns, and having the odd smoke and coffee. A heartfelt thank you also goes out to Ward 5A and Danielle Cutts at the General Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Margaret. GINGRICH Cameron Willis �Cam� (August 30, 1923 � April 16, 2017). The family of Cam Gingrich are deeply saddened to announce his passing at Watrous District Health Complex on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the age of 93, with his wife Lil at his side. Cam was born on August 30, 1923 to Ira and Lydiann Gingrich at their homestead farm two miles south of Guernsey, the seventh of eight children. Cam completed his grade 10 in Guernsey, then stayed home to help with the farming operation. In those school years, he and his siblings delivered milk door to door in Guernsey each morning. Later he worked as a welder in Kitchener, Ont. and Watrous, drove a horse-drawn school bus at Watrous, worked on a drilling rig exploring for potash in the Guernsey area and drove a school bus. He loved the kids like they were his own. He played baseball and hockey at Guernsey, Lanigan, and Watrous, played trumpet in the Guernsey band and with numerous dance bands in the area. In 1956 he achieved a long-time dream when he formed a band - Windy Gingrich and the Dixie Six. His search for a piano player is what lead him to the love of his life. Lil Breadner joined the Dixie Six in 1957 and married Cam in 1959. In 1966 Cam and Lil moved their young family to a farm at Simpson when the Guernsey farm was sold to the new potash mine. Cam�s farming career evolved from farming with horses to driving a 4WD tractor. The �30s influenced his thinking forever. Community involvement and support were key to success in small town Saskatchewan and Cam was involved in his community in many ways. He served on the telephone board, Co-op, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, RM of Wreford, United Church and community pasture committees. He coached hockey, emceed community events and joined in the Simpson homecoming parades with prized farm equipment and a homemade �Penny Farthing� bike designed and welded himself. Cam�s zest for life and belief that �learning is not confined to the four walls of school� was obvious to all who knew him. Cam loved horses, newborn calves, and the smell of freshly tilled soil in the spring, harvest time with meals in the fields, big band and Dixieland music and dogs of any kind. He loved his family, farming and all people. He saw the good in everyone. Funeral service was held at Simpson Community Centre on April 29 conducted by The Reverend (Karl) Jung-hyun Shin. Don Gingrich, Jeff Gingrich, Joel Gingrich, Ben Gingrich, Sandra Dancey and Ernie Steeves were pallbearers. Register attendants were Roy and Marilyn Crawford and Ray and Bobbi Rintoul. Murray Rintoul and Curtis Freeman were ushers. Prelude guitar music was by Shaun Dancey. The Gingrich Family gave the eulogy and tributes. GRIEVE - Dorothy Jean formerly of Regina, Sask., passed away peacefully Nov 21, 2001 in Calgary at 86 years of age. She is predeceased by her parents: William and Sara, sisters Crena Jefferson and Della Rintoul, and one brother William Grieve. She is survived by her brother Robert Grieve of Victoria, B.C., her nieces Joyce Bastock of Calgary, Marion Rice of Itasca, Ill. USA, Rosamund Blaikie and Sharron Emerson of Victoria, B.C., and nephews James Grieve of Victoria, B.C. and Michael Grieve of Vancouver, B.C. as well as numerous great nieces, great nephews and their children. Dorothy lived in Simpson, Sask. for her early childhood years and moved to Regina in 1929. She dedicated 35 years of service as an administrative assistant to the executive directors of the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Act (P.F.R.A.). In 1980, Dorothy retired from the P.F.R.A. as the assistant executive director and the Government of Canada awarded her a medal for long and efficient service. An additional ten years of service were dedicated to the provincial government in Saskatchewan where Dorothy had various jobs including administrative assistant to Premier Patterson. She was an avid Saskatchewan Roughrider's fan and enjoyed curling. Dorothy was devoted to her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and their children. A memorial service will be held at a future date at Speers Funeral Chapel in Regina. Burial will be in Simpson, Sask. GROENVELD - Adriaan (Dec. 13, 1926 - Nov. 13, 2016) passed away peacefully at home in Chilliwack, B.C. He is survived by his wife Jacoba, affectionately known as Koos; five children, John (Tanya), Caroline(Scotty), Adrien (Julie), Robert (Cathy) and Richard; six grandchildren, Clayton, Brandon, Leah, Jody, Erin and Reesa and five great grandchildren. Adriaan was blessed to enjoy a happy family life with many dear friends who were drawn to his kind and generous nature and often entertained by his witty sense of humour. Adriaan enjoyed travelling, reading, gardening and music. Adriaan, the fourth of five children, was born in Haarlem, The Netherlands to parents Reier and Cornelia Groenveld and grew up in New Vennep. In 1952 Adriaan immigrated to Canada where he was joined by fiancee Koos making the CP Station in Amulet, Sask. their first home together in Canada. Adriaan first worked for CPR/CNR,living in various small towns in Saskatchewan, but later he and Koos opened �Groenveld�s Lunch� in Simpson where they lived for 20 years before moving to Watrous. In1995 they moved to Chilliwack, B.C. It was in 1987 Adriaan became one of Jehovah�s Witnesses and thereafter spent countless hours in his volunteer ministry. Even as his health declined he continued to share in this activity so dear to his heart. On November 19, 2016 a memorial service was held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah�s Witnesses on Watson�s Road in Chilliwack. Interment was at Simpson Cemetery. GRUND - Elizabeth Julia (nee Metz) Grund passed away peacefully on February 21, 2006 at Shalom Nursing Home in Cupar; one month before her 85th birthday. She is survived by her three children, Garry (Cheryl), Rodney (Rhonda) and Charlene; grandchildren, Jason (Julie), Shelley (Keith), Kelly (Jennifer), Brian (Kristi), Sharla (Dean), Mike (Tracy) and great grandchildren, Tessa, Tanner, Taylor, Austin, Jillian, Tyson, Brayden, Abby and Jenna. Betty is also survived by her sister Margaret (Eugene) and brothers George and Rudy (Theresa). Betty was predeceased by her husband Rudy in 2003, parents Christina and Steve Metz, sisters, Monica, Anne, Julia, Agatha; brothers John, Raymond, Louis and Jack and a grandson Aaron. Betty worked in housekeeping at the Grey Nun's hospital before marrying Rudy Grund in 1945 and moving to the farm at Simpson. She was a superb homemaker, cook and baked the best chocolate chip cookies . She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting and doing liquid embroidery. She was a member of the CWL in Simpson. Betty always loved to visit with family and friends and enjoyed her grandkids and great grandkids. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and was always smiling. She was such a gentle, caring lady a personality that will never be forgotten. A Family Service will be held at Fotheringham's Funeral Chapel in Watrous on Saturday February 25th. Interment will follow in Simpson Cemetery. GRUND - Rudolph Michael. The death of Rudolph Michael (Rudy) Grund aged 83 years of Regina, SK formerly of Simpson, SK occured at the Regina General Hospital on Tuesday, March 4th,2 003. A private family service will be held. GULLACHER - Clarence Lloyd Gullacher of Simpson, aged 80 years, passed away suddenly at Watrous Union Hospital on Friday July 11, 2008. There will be a private family gathering to celebrate his life at a later date. GULLACHER - Victor Amos (December 22, 1920 - March 7, 2015). Victor was born on December 22, 1920 on his grandparents� homestead just north of Lake City School, SK. In April 1939, he started working at the Roycroft farm and has been there ever since. Victor married later in life to Eileen Roycroft. He was a loving father to Margaret Koltun and Sharon Serbin. Victor was predeceased by his wife Eileen and her sister Mary Roycroft; his brothers Gordon, Leonard and Clarence; and his sisters Lois, Marion and Shirley; nephew Barry Warner; nieces Beverly and Lorena. Victor is survived by Margaret Koltun, Sharon Serbin and grandsons Shaun (Tara) and Chris Koltun; brother Allan; and many nieces and nephews; plus great and great-great nieces and nephews. Victor passed away peacefully on March 7, 2015 at the Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility in Imperial, SK. HARPER - Thomas Alexander, aged 92 of Simpson, SK passed away at the Wynyard Integrated Hospital, Wynyard, SK on Monday, May 14, 2007. Interment in the family plot in Simpson Cemetery to follow. HENRY - Diane Marguerite Marie (Oct. 7, 1964 � May 30, 2020) was born at Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan to Lucien and Doris Lavallee. She grew up together with two brothers and two sisters. Diane first attended school at Crane Valley and later moved with her family to Limerick, SK where she completed her grade twelve education. Diane was married to Leo Brian Henry at St. George�s Roman Catholic Church in Assiniboia on May 22, 1993. Diane and Leo were blessed with two children, a son Jason and daughter Cara. For some time, the family lived in Simpson before moving to Nokomis. Diane worked at Buds and Blossoms and the Co-op Food store, as well as other odd jobs along the way. She was active with crafts, and painting and loved gardening. Diane�s favourite colour was blue, flower was a rose and pet was her dog Scooter. Diane had many friends with whom she shared much laughter, joyful singing, and heartfelt conversation. The most important thing in life, to Diane, was family, whom she genuinely loved and was most grateful for. Diane is survived by her loving family, husband Leo; son Jason; daughter Cara; parents Lucien and Doris Lavallee; sisters Suzanne MacDonald and Colette (John Perry); brothers Armand (Sherri) and Gerald (Chalan Steele) and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a large extended family. Diane was predeceased by her grandparents, Marie (George) Lavallee and Rose-Ava (Viateur) Forest; brother-in-law Hugh MacDonald and many uncles, aunts and other relatives. Diane died suddenly and unexpectedly as the result of a seizure at Watrous Hospital. Diane will be deeply missed by all those who loved her dearly. The death of Edward Henry aged 88 years and 6 months of Simpson, SK., occurred at Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility, Imperial, SK on Tuesday, January 4, 2005. HENRY - Vincent Edward (Sept. 11, 1943 - July 6, 2018) died at the Watrous District Health Complex. He was born to Edward and Laura Henry and attended school at Rolling Hills, June Rose and Simpson. He took a record-keeping course by correspondence for three years. He worked on farms, in the V. & G. Store in Simpson and the Pacific 66 Garage in Saskatoon, before going into partnership with his father and brother in the Midway Garage. Vince was a mechanic, business owner and volunteer firefighter. Vince is survived by his spouse Shirley McRae; brothers Wayne (Marj), Victor (Judy) and Leo (Diane); sister-in-law Betty; numerous nephews and nieces; and Shirley's two son's Brad (Jill) and Trent (Cassandra) and their family. He was predeceased by his father Ted, mother Laura, sister Loraine, brother Joe and brother-in-law Ace VandeWiele. A graveside service was held in Simpson Cemetery on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. A memorial reception followed in the Simpson Community Centre. HICKS - Helen Catherine (nee Diamond). It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Helen Catharine Hicks on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at the age of 89 years. Helen was predeceased by her husband Lorne; parents William and Anna Diamond; sons Howard and Donald and daughter Donna; brother Lowell Diamond. Helen leaves to cherish her memory her daughters; Mona (Marcel) Meloche, Pat (Stan) Currie and her sons; Ken (Carol), Rick (Lolly) daughter-in-law Caroline; 18 grandchildren and 24 greatgrandchildren; sisters; Monica McGeough & Margaret Gibbs; brother; Bill Diamond. Helen was born in Imperial, Sask., May 25, 1915. She married Lorne Hicks in 1931. They lived and farmed in the Simpson area until their retirement when they moved to Regina. Helen had a great love of music. For many years they played in the Hicks Orchestra in the Simpson area. Helen played the piano and was an amazing saxophone player. She instilled her love of music in her children and grandchildren. Helen loved to bake and cook and was a wonderful homemaker. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She will be sadly missed. The family would like to thank Helen's sister Margaret Gibbs for her many years of dedication to Helen. She is truly an angel. HICKS - Kenneth Lorne (Jan. 22, 1939 - Aug. 13, 2019) passed away at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, Sask. Ken was born to Lorne and Helen Hicks in Mrs. Bartel�s nursing home in Simpson. He took his schooling in Simpson and one year of agriculture in Saskatoon. In 1961 he married Carol Lees. They lived in Saskatoon where Ken went to work for International Harvester and received his journeyman�s papers for a mechanic. In 1964, they moved back to Simpson where he started his farming career. The two most important things in Ken�s life were his family and farming. One of his regrets was he didn�t quite get to finish the 2018 harvest because of his health. In his younger years, Ken played as hard as he worked. He loved to dance, golf, bowl, curl, skidoo, watch hockey games, play cards, spend time with friends and of course coffee row. In 2018, Ken and Carol moved to Saskatoon. Ken leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 58 years, Carol; children Cathy (Brian), Michael (Charlene), Suzy, Gary (Heather), Bill (Marni), 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Helen and Lorne Hicks; his son Ronald in infancy; sister and brother-in-law Pat and Stan Currie; brothers Don and Howard; sister Donna and son-in-law Kelvin Lamont. Mass of the Christian Burial was held at Simpson Community Centre on August 17 conducted by Fr. Rheal Bussiere. A private family interment followed at Simpson Cemetery. HOFFMAN - Hazel (nee Ostlund) was born on November 25, 1927 in LeRoy, SK to Levi and Anna Ostlund. The family moved to Simpson, SK. to farm and this was where Hazel grew up. She attended the little country school June Rose until grade ten, then continued in Simpson school for Grade 11 and 12. Hazel went to Saskatoon where she trained to be a teacher. She taught for 3 years at Hawkshaw (Watrous) country school and on to Biggar where she taught for 1 year. On July 30, 1950 she married Walter Hoffman of Nokomis, SK. There they farmed for 7 years. It was there that Hazel and Walter accepted Jesus Christ as Lord in their lives and became members of Nokomis Baptist Church. During those years they had two sons, Allan in 1954 and Darrell in 1956. In 1957, they moved to Frankslake where Walter bought grain for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. After 5 years they were transferred to Brownlee. It was there that a daughter Linda was born. Two years later Balcarres became their home for the next 17 years. The children grew up and left home and then came another move for Hazel and Walter to Regina. Walter passed away in 1989 and Hazel continued to live in Regina until her death on Thursday, April 18, 2013. She leaves a treasured family to remember her, son Allan (Cindy) and their children Curtis (Karla), Russell (Erin and their family Zackary and Raegan) and Andrew; son Darrell (Darcie) and their children Kane (Kristen) and Whitney; and daughter Linda (Derrick) Shynkaruk and their children Johnathan, Joshua and Jamie. HORNING - Jack Emerson Horning (June 25, 1928 � March 27, 2015). Jack Horning, 86, of Parksville BC, died peacefully after a valiant 6 year battle with multiple myeloma cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Lillian (Senton); daughter, Jill Louise and husband, Keith Bertrand of Mountain View, California; son, Warden Claude and wife, Carrie McLellan of Edmonton, Alberta; and one brother, William (Bill) and wife, Annette of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Scott and Laurel Horning, and Jack and Alexander Bertrand; sister-in-law Beryl Horning of Winnipeg; niece, Krista (Horning) Mask; nephew, Boyd Horning, and numerous cousins across Canada. Born in Edam, Saskatchewan, Jack was predeceased by his father, Claude in 1949, his mother, Beatrice (Armitage) in 1973 and his brother, Donald in 2009. Jack started in the family business "Horning Sales & Service" in 1947. In 1954, he began a 31 year career with John Deere Ltd. Retirement came in 1985, then a move to Parksville, BC in 1990, where Jack continued with travelling, genealogy, computers, internet service (MACN) and community volunteering. Jack was initiated into Masonry in 1950 in Simpson, Saskatchewan (PM 1954) and this became his lifelong creed and belief. Interment of ashes will be in August 2015 in the Horning Plot, Community Cemetery, Simpson. HOWIE - R. Bruce Howie, November 13, 1930 - March 29, 2008. Our much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 29, 2008. Bruce will be deeply missed by his wife Shirley, his family and his friends, whose lives he enriched with humour, generosity and love. He was born and raised in Simpson, Saskatchewan where his family owned the livery service and farmed for many years. He worked for B.A. Oil in Unity before attending Radio College in Toronto. He moved to Winnipeg, working first as a radio operator for the R.C.M.P. and then as a sales rep for the Western Agricultural Company. He returned to Saskatchewan, and began his 27-year career with North Star Oil and Shell Canada where his hard work, his interest in people and his concern for their well-being earned him the respect and friendship of all his business colleagues. Memories of him will be cherished by Shirley, their children Kim (Bruce) Henbest, Scott (Sarah Parker) Howie and Dawn (John) Weisberg; grandchildren, Kate and Tom Henbest, Anne-Marie and Josh Howie; his brother, Bill (Jean Parkes) Howie; and close family members, including Lois Sword, Jack (Moe) Acton, Ray (Margaret) Acton; his cousins and all of his nieces and nephews. Don Janzen, aged 69 years, of Simpson, SK. passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on Sunday, December 7th, 2014. It is with great sadness that the family of Orville Julseth announce his unexpected passing on Saturday, April 2nd, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Anne of 48 years; his two daughters, Cheryl (Terry) Rendek and Lana (Ken) Minogue; four grandchildren, Caileigh, Kaeden, Clarke and Kennedy;and his brother, Harvey (Carole) Julseth. He will also be missed by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Nelson and Lorne. Orville was born on January 30th, 1927 in Simpson, Saskatchewan. He attended school in the Girvan area. Orville became an Electrical Journeyman in 1956 and was employed by Wheaton Electrical, Robin Hood Flour Mills and St. Paul's Hospital. He enjoyed and was active in curling and bowling, he also attended the Legion and the I.O.F. Hobbies included carpentry, many mechanical projects and travelling to various places. Orville's wish was for a private gathering, which will be fulfilled this summer of 2005. KING - Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Garner). It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our dear mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mum passed away very peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 with her family at her side. Mum was predeceased by her husband, Charlie, son-in-law Ed Muz; brother John Garner. Mum is survived by daughter Sylvia Muz; son Bud (Bev) King; Marlene her loving daughter and dedicated companion; son Garth (Donna) King; one brother Bob Garner; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren. Born in Bridge of Weir, Scotland on April 4, 1907 she came to Canada with her family in 1918. She taught school for several years before marrying Charlie in 1935 and settling in Simpson. In 1957 they moved to Regina and mum worked with Social Services until her retirement in 1972. Mum was very active playing bridge, whist, square dancing and many activities and classes presented to Seniors. She loved and supported her family in all of their endeavours. Mother's greatest enjoyment in later years was the time spent with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Up until the last two years, she was a frequent spectator at the many sporting events they were involved in. In respect of mother's wishes there will be no service. A private family interment will be held at a later date. KLYPAK - Walter (May 4, 1934 - March 10, 2017) grew up on a farm near Ethelbert Manitoba. Following graduation, Walter moved to Winnipeg. In 1955 he relocated to Regina working as a stone finisher for a gravestone memorial business and part-time as a taxi driver. Walter met the love of his life, Margaret Dulle. In 1958, Walter and Margaret moved to a new home adjacent to the Dulle family farmhouse in Simpson, SK. Walter continued farming in Simpson until his retirement in 1995. Walter maintained a high standard in farming. When harvesting was complete, he worked the winter months as a welder at Mel-Cam Industries in Imperial, SK. During the late 1960�s, the farming industry faced a period of a worldwide grain surplus, which forced low grain prices. Walter felt in lieu of giving away grain at low prices, he would seek a longer-term storage system for the surplus grain. He found a solution by purchasing the abandoned Simpson train station. This facility was moved to the farm. He then converted the station into a grain storage centre. To create extra cash flow, Walter submitted a bid to provide fencing services for Lake Mountain Lake National Wildlife Federation. This lead to additional contracts for a number of years. All fencing work was done after harvest season. Around 2001 the Town of Ogema was searching for a train station to add to their community�s heritage theme. The Simpson station was discovered and deemed a treasure. A deal was made where the station was relocated to Ogema in 2002 along with all the original doors and windows. The Ogema community restored the station into a museum. The community awarded Walter special recognition for making this deal. Walter always found that his skills in carpentry, stonework, and welding were in high demand. In spite of busy summers farming and small construction projects in the winter, he made time for fishing, hunting or simply hanging out at his cabin at Little Bear Lake. Walter had a very generous heart and developed new friendships easily. Walter took pride in whatever task he undertook. Walter was predeceased by his wife Margaret (1984), his parents Nick and Polly Klypak, brothers Bill and Peter, and sisters Orysia and Sylvia. Saddened by the loss of Walter include his sons Heney (Gwen) Klypak, Orest Klypak, grandchildren Talena (Daniel) Klypak-Borbely, Kaelen Klypak, and great grandchildren Kadan and Aria Borbely. LANE - Fredrick William. Bill passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the age of 84 years. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Eleanor Marie Lane; his mother and father, Ada Sarah and Harold Watson Lane; and his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Joe) Clarke. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Doreen Pelton; his children, Linda Lane-Backman (Charles), Barry Lane, and Bob (Lynn) Lane; his grandchildren, Nicole Lane-Ingenthron, Jennifer (Jason) Selinger, William Ingenthron, and Jay Lane; his great-grandchildren, Tyler and Josie Selinger; his niece, Ada (Brian) Von Richter and family; as well, many dear friends. Bill was born in Simpson, SK. in 1925, on the family farm homesteaded by his father in 1900. He later attended the U of S and received his Certificate in Agriculture. Farming was Bill's livelihood. He was a farmer through and through. The land, the weather, and nature were in his soul. His life revolved around family, farm and friends, while his recreational life included bridge, curling, golf, hockey and an interest in most sports. Bill was a man of integrity. He always had words of encouragement. He was known as a very good, kind, and gentle man, loved by all! How better a life could one lead and leave! The death of George Elgin Langman aged 87 years of Simpson, SK occurred at the Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility in Imperial, SK on Tuesday, August 28, 2001. MARTIN - Margaret Beryl (nee Collins) was born June 1, 1920 in Simpson, SK, the eldest of four children of Herb and Laura Collins. After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan, she taught school briefly in Bracken, SK, then in Moose Jaw, and completed her teaching career in Regina at the Balfour Technical School. She was married to a well-known Regina dentist, Kenneth Martin and they raised three children. Beryl passed away in Regina, SK on Sunday, January 10, 2010. During the latter years of her journey, she faced numerous physical challenges which she met with courage and grace. Beryl is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, and her brothers Jack Collins and Dr. Harry Collins, both of Saskatoon, SK. She is survived by her sister Lois Horton of Vegreville, AB. Beryl leaves to mourn her sons, Douglas (Jackie Lindenbach) of Fort Qu'Appelle, Donald of Nipawin, her daughter Jan Broderick and grandsons Riley and Taylor of Sherwood Park, AB. MCCALLUM - Alex Jr. was born on the farm and homestead of his parents Alexander (Sandy) McCallum and Jane (nee Robertson) near Simpson on November 1, 1924. He grew up on the farm with five brothers and two sisters, doing chores, attending school and enjoying playing ball. Alex enlisted in the Navy in 1943, and after basic training, he served as a cook overseas on the Aircraft Carrier HMS Puncher, patrolling Mermansk Run and the North Sea. After discharge in 1946 he worked in Ontario cutting pulp for Abitibi Pulp & Paper Co. returning to Saskatchewan in 1948, training with Sask. Wheat Pool as an Elevator operator. In August, 1948 Alex married Anabel (nee Stewart). They took up residence in Simpson and started a family. They had four children Dallas, Darla, Ginny and Lonnie. Alex worked as a grain buyer for United Grain Growers and Anabel as a clerk for various stores. Alex enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching sports of all kinds. His grandchildren were cherished and he loved spending time with his family. After retiring and moving to Watrous in 1987, Alex worked for Mainline Motors, as a Driver. In June of 2010 Alex took up residence in Manitou Lodge and he passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 26th at Watrous District Health Complex. MCCALLUM - Anabel (nee Stewart) (October 15, 1926 � Decenber 29, 2017) was born on the family farm west of Simpson. She was the fifth of twelve children born to James and Esther (McKay) Stewart. Anabel went to Lilyholme school. She helped on the family farm looking after her younger siblings. After school she worked as a �hired girl� for neighbours. Anabel married Alex McCallum on August 29, 1948. They settled in Simpson where Alex worked as a grain buyer and started a family. They had four children, Dallas, Darla, Ginny and Lonnie. Anabel worked as a clerk for various stores in Simpson until she retired at the age of 60. Anabel and Alex retired to Watrous in 1987. Anabel enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, doing puzzles and watching local softball. She was diagnosed with MS when she was 65. She never let it get in the way of cooking or baking or taking care of her home. Anabel loved her grandchildren. A few lived with her and Alex for a while as they started out working in Watrous. Anabel moved into Manitou Lodge in April of 2011. Anabel is survived by her children Dallas (Velma) McCallum, Darla (Brian Jennett), Virginia (John Mason), Lonnie (Charles Tingey), ten grandchildren, and fifteen great grand children, brother Harvey, James (Linda) Stewart and Pete (Lynn) Stewart, sisters Nicky (Maurice Bartzen), Shirley Armstrong, Pat (Gordon Goldfinch), sister-in-law Dorothy Kostyna, Christina Valgardson, Marjorie, Audrey and Margaret McCallum, numerous nieces and nephews and close family friends Murray (Elevator) Ledarney and Jim Beller. A Memorial Service was held in Simpson Community Centre, Simpson on January 6, 2018. Interment in Simpson Cemetery at a later date. MCCALLUM - Doreen (nee Bearss). With heavy hearts, the family of Doreen McCallum announce her sudden death on Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at the Regina General Hospital. Doreen was born at Simpson, Sask., on August 24, 1934 - the youngest child of Jim and Helen Bearss. Doreen attended Indian Hill School and spent countless hours roaming the countryside on her horse Star with her sibling Dorothy, Mary Anne and Bill. After finishing school, Doreen worked at the University of Saskatoon. She spent many homesick hours; and just as many happy hours there. Doreen married Clayton McCallum on January 30, 1954. They spent the first six years of their marriage in Simpson and Condie before moving to Mankota, where they resided at the time of Doreen's death. Doreen worked at Kouri's Market, CIBC, and the Chinook Regional Library - where she was "Grandma Doreen" to children for 25 years. Predeceased by her parents Jim and Helen Bearss, inlaws Alex and Jane McCallum, brother Bill Bearss, brother-in-law Jim McCallum, son Bartly, nephew Earl Jr., and granddaughter Richelle McCallum; Doreen will be sadly missed by Clayton - her husband of 47 years, daughter Sandy (Wayne Silbernagel), Lanny and Kent, son Clint (Rhonda) and Lyndon, daughter Shelly McCallum (Bob Morgan), Chad and Cory, and great granddaughters Kiana (Lanny) and Olivia (Chad). A graveside memorial and celebration of Doreen's life will be held at the cemetery at Simpson, Sask., on Saturday, August 18, 2001, at 1:00 p.m. MCCALLUM - Marjorie Evelyn (nee Taylor) (October 18, 1932 - July 7, 2019) of Imperial and formerly the Simpson district passed away peacefully at Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility, Imperial, SK. Marj married Roy McCallum April 9, 1954 and settled on the McCallum homestead west of Simpson where they started their family. She was the mother to four children Carol, Wendy, Trudy and Delmar. While Roy was farming, Marj was a homemaker. Marj enjoyed poetry, drawing, watching her grandchildren in sporting events, gospel and country music. Marj is survived by her children Carol, Wendy (Bryan), Trudy, Delmar (Sandi); grandchildren Candace, Clint (Lesley), Janice (Kevin), Diette, Janette (Chris), Jesse and Katlin; great-grandchildren Travis, Trevor, Carter, Allisa, Danielle, Callum and Kalen. She was predeceased by her husband Roy, siblings Shirley Crawford and Lorne Taylor and son-in-law Doug Gross. Interment was in Simpson Cemetery. MCCALLUM - Robert "Bob" (September 28, 1928 � February 9, 2015). The death of Roy McCallum aged 73 years of Simpson SK occurred at his residence on Monday June 7, 2004. Roy was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Jane (Robertson) McCallum, son in law Doug Gross and by his brother Jim. He is survived by his loving wife Marj; his children, Wendy (Brian), Trudy, and Delmar (Sandi); 7 grandchildren, Diette, Jeanette, Candace, Clint, Janice, Jesse and Katlin; 2 great grandchildren, Travis and Trevor; sisters, Helen Annette and Chris (Ralph) Valgardson; brothers, Bob (Audrey), Alex (Annabel), Clayton and Kenneth (Margaret); numerous nieces and nephews. MCDADE - Martha Pearl passed away on March 23, 2006 at the Holy Cross Long term Care Centre in Calgary at the age of 99 years. She was just 2 months short of her 100th birthday. Pearl was born May 22, 1906 at Wawanesa, Manitoba. In 1910, she moved with her parents to the Imperial, Saskatchewan area. On July 16, 1925 she married Alexander McDade. They settled on a farm west of Simpson, Saskatchewan. They had 4 children Jean, Billy, Bobby and Nancy. In 1953, tragedy struck when her daughter Jean passed away suddenly during the birth of her third child at the age of 27. Farm life played a central role in her first 61 years. The role of a farm wife at this time demanded a great deal of manual labour. Just washing clothes required hauling water from a well, boiling the water on the stove, scrubbing the clothes and hanging them out to dry. Then if you wanted the wrinkles out, the Sad iron would he heated on the stove. Music was a strong current in her life. Pearl and Alex would supply the music for many a country dance with Pearl on the piano and Alex on the violin. The love and appreciation for music was handed down through the generations. From 1952 until 1973, they enjoyed living in the community of Simpson. She belonged to the Homemakers club and enjoyed many handicrafts; knitting, oil painting and crocheting to name a few. Her crocheted flowers have been given to people from all over the world from Indonesia, Texas, Great Britain and across Canada. She was still enjoyed making and giving away these flowers up until the last few months. In 1973, they moved to Imperial to be closer to a hospital. Alex passed away in 1984. In 1987, she moved to Jubilee Court in Watrous for a short time. Until returning to her home in Imperial. In 1992 she moved to Bonnyville, Alberta to be closer to her daughter, Nancy and in 1999 she moved to the Bethany Care Lodge in Airdrie as Nancy and Jim retired to Sundre. Her final move was in 2003 to the Holy Cross Long Term Care, Calgary where she resided until her passing. Pearl was predeceased by her husband Alex in 1984, son Billy in 1987, daughter Jean Gibbs in 1953, grandson Wayne Gibbs in 1983 four brothers Alex, Edgar, Donald and Alvin, two sisters Catherine and Annie and 2 granddaughters. She is survived her daughter Nancy (Jim) Hunt of Sundre and son Robert (Shirley) McDade of Saskatoon, SK; one sister Ada Taylor; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The death of Mrs. Maryann McDade aged 79 years of Imperial and formerly of Simpson, SK occurred peacefully at the Regina General Hospital on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. MCDADE - Ron, a resident of Duffield, AB, passed away in the WestView Health Centre, Stony Plain, AB following a long and arduous battle with cancer at the age of 53 years. He went to school at Flanderdale and fell in love with a certain girl when he was 16. At 17 he went to Carrot River to homestead with a couple of pals. He knew he wanted to farm, but he wanted to see some of the world first, so at 21 years of age he went to Radio School in Ontario and became qualified as a Radio Operator. Soon the Second World War began and he became the Radio Operator on the SS New York News � a position he held all the way through the war with the nickname �Sparks�. When he came back home safely, he looked up that girl he�d been writing to and asked her hand in marriage. She said yes and on June 30, 1948 Agnes Ulmer wed Bob McIntosh. To them were born two children, Karen and Francis and they happily lived on the former Dougal McDonald farm and pursued farming. Dad loved tinkering in his shop, building things and running his Gleaner combines in the fall. When he had free time he read voraciously and recited poetry he�d learned in school. Bob was predeceased by his father and mother, brothers James, Elden, Bill and a baby brother Ken (in infancy); his sister Jean and grandson Klay Gullacher. The death of Amanda Caroline Norum, 84, of Saskatoon and formerly of Simpson occurred at her residence on Tuesday, June 7, 1983. She came with her parents to the Venn District of Saskatchewan in 1905. She received her education at Ridgeford, Venn, Watrous and the Saskatoon Normal School. Until 1919, she taught at several schools in the Young, Amazon and Simpson districts. Amanda married Oscar Norum on December 26, 1919 at Venn. She had been active in the Sunday School, a member of the U.C.W., Homemakers Club and the Canadian Bible Society. She was as member of the United Churches in Simpson and Sutherland. Predeceased by her husband Oscar in 1967, three brothers, Andrew, Albert and Peter Angman; three sisters, Mrs. George (Martha) Carlson, Mrs. Charlie (Annie) Pilblad, and Mrs. Bill (Ellen) Hunter, she is survived by two sons, Eldon and his wife Wilda Norum and Don and his wife Margaret Norum all of Saskatoon; one daughter, Mrs. Vic (Margot) Beaulieu of Indian Head; one brother, Edward Angman of Langley, B.C.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ena Angman, Kindersley and Mrs. Elsie Norum, Richmond, B.C.; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. NORUM - Casper Emmanuel. The death of Casper Emmanuel Norum, age 68 years, of 411 8th Street East. Saskatoon, occurred in a local hospital on November 14, 1972. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 17 at 1:00 pm from the Chapel of Saskatoon Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Earl Lackey. Surviving are: a sister, Miss Mabel Norum of Saskatoon; a brother, Arnold Norum of Imperial, Sask. and 19 nieces and nephews. Mr. Norum was born in North Dakota, USA and at an early age moved with his parents to Simpson. He farmed in the district until 1944 when he retired and later came to make his home in Saskatoon. Interment will take place in the Simpson Cemetery on Friday at 4:00 pm. NORUM - Eldon (June 1, 1926 - August 27, 2016). Eldon was born to Oscar and Amanda Norum on June 1, 1926 at Simpson, SK. He passed away suddenly on August 27, 2016 in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 90. Left to mourn are his wife Mildred, his son Eric (Barbara) and grandson Carl (Mickey) Norum and great grandson Alex, grandson Stephen (Christa) Norum and great grandson Mark, daughter Sonja and grandchildren Ayden Joynes and Mackenzie Stewart, and brother Don (Margaret) Norum. He is survived by a large extended family of in-laws, Hough Nordlund, Enid Lemke (Allan Campbell), Lois Elder, Borgny Elsden, Kathy Fenton, Palmer Unseth, Carl Lakness, Theresa Lakness, as well as nieces, nephews and a large step family that he considered his own.Eldon grew up on a farm near Simpson and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture ('48) from the University of Saskatchewan. He especially enjoyed presenting extension courses throughout rural Saskatchewan where he had an opportunity to share advances in farming practices with fellow farmers. He had a passion for farming and for over 50 years farmed the land his grandfather homesteaded in 1903.Eldon's life was characterized by care and devotion to his immediate and extended family. He had a strong commitment to his church and community serving on many boards and committees. NORUM - Mabel Johanna. The death of Mabel J. Norum, 86, formerly of Simpson, occurred at her residence, Lutheran Sunset Home, Saskatoon, on July 12th, 1978. The funeral service was held from the Chapel of Lutheran Sunset Home on July 15th with Pastor G. Grant officiating and Mrs. Alexander as organist. Mabel and her brother Casper moved to Saskatoon at that time. Mabel was a faithful member and worker in Lutheran Churches in both Simpson and Saskatoon. NORUM - Oscar Emeliam. The death of Oscar Emeliam Norum of Simpson, 74, occurred in Saskatoon City Hospital on Sunday, May 14, 1967. Mr. Norum had been a member of the Simpson School Board for 25 years, the Watrous School Unit Board, Wreford Municipal Council, the Odd Fellows� and Masonic Lodges, and St. John�s United Church. Predeceased by one sister and four brothers, he is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. W. V. (Margot) Beaulieu, Indian Head; two sons, Eldon, Saskatoon, and Don, Davis, Calif.; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold, Imperial, and Casper of Saskatoon; and one sister, Mabel, of Saskatoon. NORUM - Wilda Ruth (nee Nordlund). The death of Wilda Ruth Norum, age 63, of Saskatoon, occurred on December 1, 1990. She was Sunday School Superintendent for many years; a life member of the U.C.W.; Elder in St. Paul's United Church; Honourary Member of the Saskatoon Ostomy Association; and a former member of the Sons of Norway. Wilda was a friend to all, and her home always had room for one more. OAKES - Agnes M. (nee Berting). The death of Agnes M. PARKER - Doreen Velma (nee Argue), dearly loved mother of Linda Leader, Carole Blewett and Allan Parker, passed away in Regina on Friday, September 21, 2007 with her family present. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2003 and an infant daughter Mary in 1942. Doreen was born October 3, 1918 to Frank and Lottie Argue from Midland, ON who had settled in Fyfe Lake in southern Saskatchewan. Doreen was one of five siblings all of whom survive her: Hazel Lander, Vancouver, BC; Jean Leake, Regina, SK; twin brother Dorland Argue, Calgary, AB; and Roma Paterson, Comox, BC. Besides Linda, Carole and Allan, she is survived by Rob Leader and Valerie Parker to whom she was a well loved and respected mother-in-law. She was a cherished grandmother to three grandsons: Dane and Shelley Graburn and Sara; Steven and Chris Leader, Kayla, James and Jordan; Craig Leader and fiancee Gina Sawchin and one granddaughter Kelly and Jim Parker Cates, Zoe and Connor. Although Doreen was born in Moose Jaw, she was raised in Regina where she met Jim at the Trianon Ballroom. In 1938 they were married and moved to the family farm at Simpson, SK where they raised their three children. In 1972 they retired and moved to Regina where they enjoyed closer contact with their children. They joined the Regina Lawn Bowling Club and became very involved with the club and the sport. Together Jim and Doreen travelled to almost every province attending National Competitions, often as competitors. During her competitive years, Doreen won Silver and Bronze medals in National competitions. Doreen served as President of the Regina Lawn Bowling Club and as President of the Saskatchewan Ladies Lawn Bowling Association. She also served as the Saskatchewan Provincial Director for a full term. She became an international judge officiating at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, BC. In recognition of her devotion to the sport, she was awarded the 2001 Award of Merit by Bowls Canada. Doreen was a skillful homemaker and crafter; over the years she knit everything from mittens to curling sweaters for her family. She created especially fine petit point needlework, which quickly became treasured family heirlooms. Jim and Doreen had moved to Marian Chateau in 2000. Since May, failing health had determined her relocation to Sunset Extendicare. The family extends its sincere appreciation to the staff at Marian Chateau and Sunset Extendicare for their kindness to their mother. PARKER - James Joseph of Regina, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2003 in Pasqua Hospital one month before his 93rd birthday. Jim was born on December 17, 1910 in Backus, Minnesota, and moved to Canada with his parents and five siblings while he was still an infant. The Parker family homesteaded west of Simpson, SK, where Jim received his education. As a young man he was employed by the Royal Bank, working at Maryfield, Lemberg and Estevan. He was then employed by the Dept. of Agriculture in Regina. In 1938, he married Doreen Argue of Regina, moving to the family farm where they raised their children. In 1972, Jim and Doreen retired to Regina. Both became active members of the Regina Lawn Bowling Club, attending and participating in National Tournaments across Canada and in the US. Jim was also an accomplished bridge player competing in Tournaments in the city and throughout the province. Three years ago Jim and Doreen moved to the Marian Chateau. Jim was a proud and devoted father and grandfather taking keen interest in his family and their activities. It could be said that his major hobby was people. He had a life-long love of conversation, talking easily with people of all ages. His memory was phenomenal for remembering names and faces, dates and places. Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and Jennie (McGeough), brothers Phillip and Patrick, sister Delores Jolly, Marie Jolly and Gertrude Zentner, and an infant daughter Mary. POTTS - Ian Arthur (October 11, 1939 - October 23, 2019) passed away at his residence near Simpson. Ian was born in Simpson at Bartels� Nursing Home. He lived on the farm east of Amazon until 1946 when the family moved to Hope, BC briefly for work. The family returned to Amazon in 1947 where Ian grew up. He attended Amazon school until grade 9 and then went to Watrous for high school, graduating in 1958. After high school Ian worked for Mackay Construction owned by Bill and Craig Mackay, where he felt fortunate to see many parts of Saskatchewan. In 1961, Ian met Jeanne in Watrous and they were married in 1965. They lived in Saskatoon where Jeanne had their four babies and Ian worked at the Allan Potash Mine and the Grasswood Esso. In 1972, the family purchased their farm from Harold Quennell where Ian continued to farm until he passed away. Ian and Jeanne were involved with numerous activities to support their four children as well as being active community members. Ian was a founding member of the Optimist Club in Simpson and called bingo for 16 years. He served the RM of Wood Creek as councillor from 1975 to 1980 and as reeve from 1980 to 1994. In addition, Ian was instrumental in promoting and constructing Mid Sask Terminal. He took great pride in this project and was very pleased to give personal tours. Ian was a generous fun loving man. Literally and metaphorically his door was always open! His greatest pride of all however, was his children and grandchildren. SOPER - Franklin Elmer Soper passed away May 15, 2010 at the age of 91 in the Continuing Care Facility at the Drumheller Health Complex, AB. He was born on May 4, 1919 on the farm in Simpson, SK to Steve and Matilda Soper. Frank remained on the farm until he married Ruth Stueck in 1942. He volunteered to serve his country during World War II and was in active duty in Europe between 1943 and 1945 as a "LAC" in the Royal Canadian Airforce. In 1950, he moved his family to Drumheller, AB. He enjoyed having his family with him. He was a private person and didn�t speak of his accomplishments, such as taking flying lessons at age 60. Frank was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, in 2005. He leaves behind his four children: Margaret (Pat) Schaffer, Edmonton,AB; Patricia Rovere (Allan), Surrey, BC; Gary Soper, Moyie, BC; Barbara (Dave) Soper, Grande Prairie, AB; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and his sister-in-law, Eleanor Roszell of Regina, SK. At George's request there will be no formal service held. STEIN - John Lloyd Douglas (June 18, 1931 - November 4, 2006). John Lloyd Douglas Stein of Calgary passed away on Saturday November 4, 2006 at the age of 75 years. He leaves his wife of 48 years, Lillian; daughters Nancy and Brenda (Dustin Lagler) of Calgary, AB as well as his cherished granddaughters Lauren and Jessica. He is also survived by his brother Stacey (Phyllis) of Simpson, SK, sister Maxine (Steve) of Rosthern, SK, sister-in-law Alice (Gordon Mooney) of Imperial, SK and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States. He was predeceased by his father John and mother Maude. Lloyd was born and raised in Simpson, SK where he farmed until 1959. He and his wife, Lillian, moved to Saskatoon, SK where he pursued both BSA and B. Ed degrees at the University of Saskatchewan. He taught Vocational Agriculture and Farm Sciences in Estevan, SK and surrounding area until 1973 when he moved the family to Weyburn, SK. In Weyburn and later Swift Current he worked for the both governments in the department of agriculture. Lloyd retired to Calgary in 1996 to be near his family. Throughout the years he was active on Co-op boards, worked for Credit Union Central, was a member of the Mason's, and was a dedicated United Church Member. He took all of his schooling in Simpson and after graduation from Simpson High School he took a two year vocational agriculture course at the University of Saskatchewan. He then returned home and farmed with his father. In 1951 he married Phyllis Francis and they lived on the family farm and they raised 4 children - Cheryl, Donna, Darrell and Murray. Throughout his life Stacey had a passion for farming and was always very proud of both his crops and his cattle. In his younger days, he was an avid curler and continued to follow it throughout the years. He also was a keen follower of his children's and grandchildren's sports, especially hockey, and was always very proud of his family. Stacey was very active in the community in Simpson, and was involved in the startup of, and served on the boards of, a variety of organizations in Simpson including the Simpson Credit Union, Simpson Coop, Coop Implements, Wheat Pool and both the Local and District School Boards. In addition, he was very active in the Simpson United Church in a variety of positions throughout his life. Stacey was predeceased by his parents, John and Maude Stein, wife Phyllis, sister Maxine Stann, brother Lloyd Stein, brother-in-law Allen Lindgren; and son-in-law Ross McLaren. TAYLOR - Lorne (January 7, 1940 - July 1, 2006). It is with great sadness that the family of Lorne Taylor of Clavet, SK, announces his passing in Saskatoon after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 66. Lorne leaves to mourn his wife, Lyn; mother, Ada; sons, Neil (Linda) and their children, Hayley, Hudson and Holton; Rudy (Lisa); Curtis (Noreen) and their sons, Dallas and Kevin; Shawn (Cathy) and their children, Ashley, Nathan, Landon and Hayden; James (Jill) and their sons, Micheal and Justin. Lorne was predeceased by his father, William and infant brother, Howard. Lorne spent most of his working career in the mining industry, first at the Allan Potash Mine, then from 1974 until his retirement at Cameco's Rabbit Lake Uranium Mine. His spare time was fully spent pitching fastball, auctioneering, tinkering with tractors, visiting, and pulling pranks or joking around with everyone in sight. Neither young or old, friend or stranger were safe from his good natured ribbing. He was Mayor of Clavet for twelve years and was a tireless supporter and builder of the community. THOMSON John Alexander "Al". Following a lengthy illness John Alexander (Al) Thomson, age 79, passed away at the Cypress Regional Hospital on Saturday, December 17, 2011. Al is survived by his wife Diana Andrews Thomson, her son Stuart Andrews; his daughter Beverley (Bill) Perret: sons Jordan and Levi; his son Myles (Barbara) Thomson, children Jessica, Nathan, Erin; great-grandchildren Tana, Christopher, Madison, Aimie and Renee; brother Bill (Marlene) and their children; sister Dorothy (Mac) J.D. McNichol, their children and sister Jean Todd. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Jean Marie (Pearson) Thomson (married May 5, 1952 - deceased, June 23, 2000); and by a brother Malcolm (2001). Al was born February 4, 1932 in Simpson, SK the first born child of Alexander and Dorothy Elizabeth (Bateson) Thomson. He attended school in Nokomis, SK. Al enlisted in the army on September 26, 1949 in the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers where he trained as a mechanic. He was honorably discharged on October 30, 1952. Al was employed for 2 years with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and 1 year with the CPR. He was employed for 35 years by Sask. Power in various positions at Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Coleville, and Swift Current retiring on August 31, 1987 as District Superintendent of Gas Production and Transmission at the Success Compressor Station. Al spent many enjoyable summers at his cabin at Aquadeo Beach on Jackfish Lake where he was instrumental in the formation of Aquadeo as a Village. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 32 years serving on the Executive and as President. In retirement he enjoyed travelling, especially cruising, until ill health curtailed his activities. A service celebrating Merle�s life will be held at Simpson Community Centre, Simpson, SK on Saturday, November 21st at 1:30 p.m. ULLYOTT - Merle David [update] (May 18, 1928 - November 16, 2015) passed away peacefully at Biggar & District Health Centre. Merle was born on a farm west of Simpson, SK. He was the sixth of seven children born to Roy and Alverda Ullyott. Merle and his brothers learned that to survive on a farm in Saskatchewan required hard work and determination.With the passing of their dad in 1946, Merle and his brother Lewis were left to look after the family farm as the older brothers and sister had previously left to join the war effort. After the fall of 1947, they decided to head south for the winter to find employment in California. This worked out well for them and so they continued to head south for the following three winters. On June 26, 1954 Merle married the love of his life Patricia Roney from Imperial. They moved into a new �unfinished� home that Merle was building in Simpson. Together they enjoyed a wonderful marriage raising four children and celebrating their 61st anniversary this past year. Merle was active in the community including president of the Simpson Credit Union, school board member, rink board member and a coach of local hockey for several years. He loved skiing in the mountains, flying his own airplane, travelling the world, watching all local sports, spending winters in Hawaii and most of all spending time with his family - especially his grandchildren. She spent her early years on the farm just west of Imperial until moving into town at the age of ten. After completing her schooling in Imperial, she worked as a teller at the Royal Bank for a year. On her nineteenth birthday in 1954, she married Merle Ullyott. They moved into a new �unfinished� home that Merle was building in Simpson. Together they enjoyed a wonderful marriage raising four children and celebrated their 61st anniversary in 2015. Pat was active in the community including the UCW evening unit and choir, the Simpson rink, Long Lake Parent Band organization and children�s groups of the United Church. Pat enjoyed helping out on the farm, gardening, knitting, skiing, watching sports (especially hockey), travelling with Merle and their many friends, but most of all spending time with her family. VANTHUYNE - Robert Harry (November 2, 1939 - March 5, 2016). It is with heartfelt sadness and with loving memories that the families of Robbie announce his sudden passing of heart failure at the age of 76. He was the eldest of 14 children born to Helen (McDade) and Harry Vanthuyne of Simpson, SK where Robbie attended school and from there went working for his dad hauling barrels of oil and fuel to the farmers in the area. He later moved to Edmonton and delivered milk. In 1976 he moved to Davidson and started selling Case equipment with Robert Cool. Robbie married Effie Berggren and they lived in various places in Saskatchewan while he was selling Case machinery. Effie passed away in 2003. Robbie met Marlene Lockwood and moved to Kindersley to work for Richard Jones and J & B Equipment. In 2010 Robbie retired after 57 years in the machinery business. Robbie loved the farm in the Pinkham valley and took great pride in keeping the yard beautiful. He was very proud of his 450 hills of potatoes. He was overjoyed when Dwayne asked him to run a combine. At Christmas time his lights lit up the Pinkham valley. Robbie very much loved his family, always enjoying playing cards, going fishing and hunting with his brothers and nephews. Robbie and Marlene enjoyed many trips to Yuma, Arizona with his brother Bing and Wendy. WALKER - Gladys Pauline (nee Olson) January 1923 - December 2009 has gone to be with her Jim. Gladys was born to Sten and Gunda Olson on January 19, 1923 at Nokomis, Saskatchewan. She was the second oldest, and the only girl with four brothers. They were George, Stanley, Allan and Bill. The family moved to the Simpson area where they continued farming. Mom obtained her Grade 12 by correspondence and after working in the Watrous post office was accepted into St. Paul's Hospital school of nursing. Following graduation from St. Paul's she worked at the Saskatoon Sanitorium. Gladys married James Walker in June 1947. They had two children, James and Helen. Mom was the family caregiver, for many years we had family members staying with us. She used to love going on holidays to B.C. or Hawaii but was always anxious to get home again. She also loved Paris and would go at the drop of a hat. Her house was full of needlework of which she was justly proud. The only thing that ever defeated her was learning how to drive. She held a learners' license for forty years. Nursing was always mom's first love and she went back to it as her kids grew older. She Nursed at the Saskatoon Convalescent Home, Royal University Hospital and The Veteran's Home. As dad's health failed, she spent several years caring for him, living later at Luther Tower and Arbor Villa. Gladys is survived by son, Jim (Joan) Walker; daughter, Helen Christopher; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, John and Annie Pieper, her brother Albert, and her beloved husband of 52 years, John. Edith was born on a farm near Simpson, Saskatchewan on May 27, 1920. She attended Meadowville School with her brother Albert, travelling by horse and buggy each day. She grew up in Simpson and enjoyed music and dancing. Edith married John Wasylenko on August 26, 1947. She received her teaching certificate at Normal School in Regina. She taught in several country schools, including a one room school house on the prairies. She later taught in Regina and Iowa City. She was very involved in her husband's physiotherapy practice, working at his office and doing the bookkeeping for many years. After raising her three children, she obtained her real estate license and worked for Tom Drope Realty. Her recreational activities included bridge and card games of any kind, gardening, photography, playing piano and dancing. She enjoyed the summers at the family cottage at Kannata Valley. She delighted those that knew her with her sunny smile and contagious enthusiasm. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Her spirit will live on in the many memories and love that we shared. Having been the cornerstone of the family, she will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. WELLS - Elsie Annie. On Tuesday, October 31, 2000, Elsie Annie Wells, late of Regina, formerly of Simpson, Sk., passed away at the age of 93 years. Predeceased by her husband, Frank in 1964; her brother William; sister May; daughter-in-law Edith. Elsie is survived by her daughter Audrey (Allan) Young of Lumsden and their children Linda (Lance) Whitteron of Lumsden and their children Christopher and Matthew; Brad (Renee) Young of Lumsden and step children Ilene (Ingwald) Ingwaldson of B.C., Ed Wells of Craik, Mel (Denise) Wells of B.C.; as well as ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Flowers gratefully declined. WHITLEY - William (Bill) George (October 15, 1924 - July 15, 2020). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Whitley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He passed away peacefully at the Gorge Road Hospital in Victoria, BC. Bill was born to Frank and Olive Whitley at Simpson, SK. Growing up and working on the farm, he obtained his Grade 12 diploma from Simpson School. Bill took over the family farm upon the death of his father, just before marrying Marjorie Semple on June 2, 1949. He served on many boards and committees, including those that brought the Credit Union and Co-op store to Simpson, as well as the Simpson Curling Club, Snowplow Club, St. John�s United Church and the new skating rink. After farming for 21 years, Bill and Marjorie moved to Saskatoon and started Whitley�s Safe Driving. They were foster parents and very active in their community, serving on church boards and other committees. Bill and Marjorie enjoyed many annual trips to Maui, Hawaii and Bill especially would return with a deep tan every year. In 2000 they moved to Victoria, BC and loved living there in the more temperate climate. Bill especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He cherished his family and passed on his morals, humility and strong work ethic to three generations of Whitleys. He loved square dancing, woodworking, creating beautiful works of art, now treasured family heirlooms. Bill was predeceased by his brothers Francis (Frank) and Herbert (Bert), and his son Robert (Bob) Boyd-Whitley. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marjorie, and their children, Frank (Uyen), Sharon (Kelly Bazin), daughter-in-law Debbie Boyd-Whitley, Kevin (Jeananne Brehon), Brian (Heather), Suzanne (Karen Chan), 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Margaret DiCensa and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. WILSON - Roy Ivan Wilson, late of Regina, Sask., surprised us all with his passing on Monday, October 28, 2002. His passing was very much like his life; one of dignity. He was predeceased by his parents; sister Clara and brothers Clifford and Clarence. Roy is survived by his wife Harriet; sons Larry (Cindy) and Jim (Mary); grandchildren Bryce (Danielle), Kent, Shaela and Lisa. He was born in Simpson, SK on October 17, 1921. Roy served in the Royal Canadian Navy in World War II on a Mine Sweeper in the North Atlantic from 1942 until the end of the war. He was actively involved with trucking until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed building and fishing and devoted much of his time to his children and grandchildren. Roy was a man who often said little but when he spoke, it was from the heart, based on experience and wisdom. He lived by principles of integrity, fairness, hard work and determination. He had the ability to fix anything from engines to plumbing. In fact, Roy built the family home himself, residing there for over forty years. In many ways, Roy was an inventor, often creating something to help get the job done more efficiently. He loved the outdoors; walking, golfing or fishing with his son, Larry. Roy wasn't one to tell jokes but he always appreciated the humor in life. He had a healthy respect for his friends and their friendships. Roy was proud of his sons and grandchildren for their successes and work ethic. His encouragement influenced them to work hard to achieve their goals. Floreen is also survived by Bob's family members including Pauline Ireland, Comox, BC, Alice Geib, Regina, SK., Irene Truman, London, ON, Harold Youcke, Aylmer, ON, Ivan Youche, Oliver, BC, and Lyle Young, Prince George, BC. Floreen was born near Simpson, SK., on June 9th, 1930, sixth of a family of 12 children. Her bright brown eyes, distinctive laugh, and sharp intelligence were noted from an early age. Floreen attended Normal School and at the age of 16 began teaching at Sweet Hill Country School in the Simpson Hills. She then taught in Young and Strasbourg. It was in Strasbourg that she caught the eye of a handsome WWII veteran who became the love of her life. Together they farmed in the Last Mountain hills near Duval, Saskatchewan where they welcomed the births of their 3 children; Celeste, Karen and Gregory. Karen's special needs strengthened Floreen and Bob's bond of love and marriage, and embedded a sense of acceptance for diversity within their family unit. In 1959, Floreen accepted a teaching position with Regina Catholic Schools. She completed her Bachelor of Education with Distinction at the University of Saskatchewan Regina Campus and then began a program for children with reading and learning disabilities. She pursued a Master of Education degree at the University of Missouri, Columbia, with Great Distinction. Floreen continued with Regina Catholic Schools as a Consultant. She held many positions both nationally and internationally within her area of expertise. She was a popular speaker and workshop presenter and always championed children with exceptionalities. Her greatest gifts were her positive loving spirit, her zest for life, her wicked wit, her patience and expert teaching. You have touched so many Floreen. The death of Mrs. Sandy Zitaruk, aged 66 years, of Simpson, SK occurred at Regina General Hospital on Wednesday, March 17, 2010. Sandy is survived by her loving husband Jim; son Barry and daughter Denise; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
