ARMSTRONG - Russell Doyle. Tuesday 26 November 1974, Mr. Russell Doyle Armstrong, age 68, died at the home of Mrs. Neida Armstrong of #3-808 Empress St. Regina. Predeceased by one infant son, Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife Neida, 2 sons, Doyle (Regina), Joseph (Winnipeg) and 2 daughters, Mrs Don (Phylis) Blackwell (Regina) & Mrs Joe (Elaine) Kyter (Regina) & 8 grandchildren, 1 sister, Mildred Ottewell (North Bay), 1 brother, Cecil (Edmonton). Mr. Armstrong resided in Lockwood District before retiring to Regina. Interment in Lockwood Cemetery.
ASSMAN - Bertha (nee Meissner). It is with deep regret and sadness that the family of Bertha Assman announces her passing on March 31st, 2008, at Central Parkland Lodge where she passed away peacefully. Bertha was born November 26, 1912 at Lockwood to Alex and Eva Meisner, the middle of five children. She attended school in Lockwood as well as helping out on the family farm. On March 20, 1937, Bertha married John Assman. Their marriage was blessed with seven children. While raising the children and working alongside her husband on the farm, Bertha also made time to be an active member of the Prairie Rose Homemaker Club. They farmed near Lockwood for many years and remained on the farm well into their retirement years. The move to Fairlane Apartments in Lanigan was made in May of 1989, with Bertha's subsequent move to Jubilee Homes after John's passing. Bertha was a dedicated homemaker, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her numerous grandchildren. Her way of always putting other people ahead of herself endeared her to many. She was very talented at knitting, crocheting and quilting and spent hours working at it. While living in Lanigan, Bertha enjoyed carpet bowling at the Merry Mixers Senior Centre. The weekly van trips uptown were a favourite outing. Bertha was predeceased by her husband John, parents, brothers Alex and Edward, sisters Mary and Lydia. She leaves to mourn, her seven children: Ida (Bob) McLaren of Drake, Vivian Wilson of Moose Jaw, Len (Pearl) Assman of Strathmore, AB, Art (Pat) Assman of Lumsden, Ruth (Ron) Morningstar of Lockwood, Gladys (Allen) Rahn of Nokomis, Pat (Ken) Reid of Warman, 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The memorial service was held at the Lockwood Community Hall in Lockwood, Saskatchewan on Friday, April 4th at 11:00 a.m. Officiating the service was Pastor Emily Toews. The pianist was Gudrun Blackport. The register attendant was Margaret Weiss. All of her family and friends were her Honourary Pallbearers. ASSMAN - John (January 17, 1907 - April 1,1996). John Assman was born in Katrynasko, Ukraine to Gottfried and Anna (Kowalski) Ahsmann. Life was difficult in the Ukraine. When the war broke out the family was taken to refugee camps in Siberia. In 1919 families were allowed to live in Germany if they wished, where John worked in a textile factory and as a farm labourer. John emigrated to Canada in 1928 to join his sister Katherine and her husband Jake Janzen who came to Canada earlier. He worked for them and others in Nokomis and Lockwood areas until 1937 when he married Bertha Meisner. They rented the J. O. Johnston farm west of Drake for 2 years. They rented land north east of Lockwood and lived with Bertha's brother Alex. In 1948 they purchased the Hislop Homestead, south of Lockwood. This was a mixed farming operation along with a huge garden. A new home was built in 1973 for their retirement. John's greatest enjoyment was his garden, growing many raspberries and strawberries. Pastimes included curling, watching baseball and many Sunday drives to Manitou Beach. In 1989, they moved to Lanigan. John was diagnosed with cancer in 1994 and his health slowly deteriorated until his passing on April 1, 1996 in Lanigan Hospital at the age of 89 years. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and three sisters and a son-in-law. To cherish his memory is his loving wife of 59 years, Bertha; 7 children, 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, 2 sons; Len (Pearl) of White City and their children Rose and friend Roger of Calgary, Murray and fiance Deanna, and Darcy; Art and friend Pat from Calgary and Art's children, Trevor and Tannus (Kelly) Juricic; 5 daughters; Ida (Bob) McLaren of Drake, Denise (Herni) Friesen and their children Jacryn & Laurie; Dawn & friend Rob of Calgary, Duane (Kerri) and their children Krishia & Kenadi, Vivian Wilson & friend Sparky Andrews of Moose Jaw, Jeff (April) and their children Derek & Michael; Brian & friend Kirn of Calgary, Kevin (Pattie) & son Stephen; & Tanya of Regina, Ruth (Ron) Morningstar of Lockwood and their children, Dallas, Shannon of Regina, and Debra of Saskatoon, Gladys (Allen) Rahn of Nokomis, Pat (Ken) Reid of Warman and their children Josh, Shane & Cole. Relatives in Germany, nephew Jake Janzen of Aldergrove B.C., Frieda Hoffman of Loydminster, Alta and Louella (Allan) McCall of Orleans, California. BELL - Harold James Bell was born in Pickering Ontario, September 1899 and came to Saskatoon with his parents while very young. He farmed in the Haliburton district east of Lockwood for over seventy years until his retirement in 1978. He was well known for his cheerful personality, always willing to help. He was involved in all facets of community life and he was especially remembered for music. He was married January 17, 1921 and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. D. S. Lynch (Marion) of Lockwood, Mrs. A. Romuld (Norma) of Saskatoon, one sister, Mrs. Marjorie Wood of Lockwood, seven grandchildren, Brian Lynch, Weyburn, Bob Lynch, Saskatoon, Terry Lynch, Lockwood, Shelly Lynch, Winnipeg, Karen Hughes, Regina, Colleen Romuld, Pemberton and Barbara Romuld, Winnipeg and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased his wife, Estella in 1941, his parents and two brothers. Harold Bell passed away suddenly in Lanigan Hospital Tuesday, March 4, 1980 after a short illness. The funeral was from Lockwood United Church, Friday, March 7, conducted by Rev. R. W. Swann. Pallbearers were Abe Eichorst, DeVon Wentz, Abe Friesen, Herb Nadiger, Roy Wentz and Jack Robson. Interment Lockwood cemetery. Lunch was served by the Ladies in Lockwood Hall.
BIRTLES - Cecil "Buck" (1924 - 2013). It is with great sadness that the family of Cecil "Buck" announce that he passed away peacefully on September 29, 2013 at Veteran's Village, Sherbrooke in his 89th year. Cecil leaves to mourn with loving memories his daughters Verna, Beverly and Betty; sons Bob and Dennis along with their spouses, and by the mother of his surviving children Elsie Birtles. Mourning his loss are also eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Cecil is survived by one sister Ethel Smith; sisters-in-law Alda Birtles, Cathie Telford, Jean Kane and Flora Erratt. He was predeceased by his son Jason (2004); his granddaughter Allison Upcott (2004); his parents William and Edith (Nadiger) Birtles; brothers Bill, Joe, Ernest and George; sisters Mary and Winnie. Cecil was born near Lockwood, Sask. on December 14, 1924 and grew up on the family farm. After his mother's death Cecil moved to Chelan, SK where he finished school. Cecil enlisted during WWII, joining the RCAF as a rear gunner and departing for England in 1944. Following Victory in Europe, Cecil volunteered for the Pacific Theatre but fortunately the war ended prior to his departure. After the war Cecil farmed in the Chelan area and served as Chelan postmaster from the early 1950's until January 1998; he was a supporter of community -local school board, community association, and a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion. In the eyes of his children, this busy man always made time to be a wonderful father - supporting his kids was what he did best. In 1998 Cecil moved to Saskatoon and over the years he made a number of friendships which gave him a great deal of joy. In 2011 he moved into the Veteran's Village at Sherbrooke Community Center where he felt loved, supported and cared for by a wonderful and kind staff. Cecil's family wish to express their admiration and gratitude for the loving care provided to him by all his caregivers at Sherbrooke. At Cecil's request there will be no funeral service.
BIRTLES - Florence May of Nokomis passed away in Nokomis on Thursday, May 27, at the age of 66 years. Predeceased by her husband, Joe; she is survived by two sons and one daughter: David Iddiols and wife Jill of Beaver Lodge, Alberta; Roger and wife, Eleanor of Colonsay; and Wendy Hemmingway and husband Hugh of Yorkton, also 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral service on Monday, May 31, at 2:00 p.m. from Nokomis United Church. Interment to follow in Lockwood Cemetery, Rev. Hugh McGregor officiating clergy.
BIRTLES - William John (1909 - 1992). Bill was born May 8, 1909 to Billy and Edith (Nadiger) Birtles. His father originally came from the Alexander, Manitoba area and homesteaded in the Lockwood area. Bill�s father died when Bill was 17, so with his mother�s help, raised 4 younger brothers and 3 younger sisters. Bill worked hard with horses while farming; but also enjoyed and took pride in having his horses look neat. He made sure they were done up fancy each time they went out. Bill followed his uncle John�s footsteps when it came to butchering. His children, nieces and nephews enjoyed helping him and playing with the fun things found in animals. Bill attended Haliburton and Kutawagan rural schools. He farmed on his father�s farm located 1 1/2 miles south and 8 miles east of Lockwood on the correction line until 1979 when he retired. During his farming life, Bill went through many changes; from horse and buggy to modern day technology. Bill married Ada Adamson in 1937, who taught at Haliburton. It is said he was a very busy, hard working man but did have time for courting, dancing and playing cards. After Ada�s death in 1971, Bill continued farming and also worked cutting meat. Bill was predeceased by his parents Edith and William; brothers Joe and George; sister Winnie; sisters-in-law Florrie and Alice; brothers-in-law Harold and Cliff. Left to mourn are brothers Ern, Cecil, sisters Mary and Ethel; brothers-in-law Gordon and Tom; sisters-in-law Alda, Eileen and Elsie. His children are Margaret (Perry) Ritz, living in Regina; Joe (Shirley), living on the family farm and Mary (Doug) Rykorchuk, living in Richmond, B.C. Bill has seven grandchildren; Cam (Theresa) and Brad (Chris - fiance) Ritz; Sheri (Preston), Troy and Leah Birtles, Ronna and Trevor Ryorchuk. Bill has one great grandchild, Ronna�s son Julien. His children and grandchildren were very dear to him, and he was very happy and delighted to see them whenever they visited him. He spent the last six years at Central Parkland Lodge. Bill will be remembered as a caring, generous, helpful man. He will be missed by all his family and friends. BISHOP - Beulah Grace Bishop of Calgary, passed away at the Glamorgan Care Centre on September 3, 1997 at the age of 96 years. Born October 24, 1901 in Dawson, North Dakota, Beulah came to Canada in 1904 with her parents, who homesteaded near Lockwood, Saskatchewan. She married W. F. Bishop (Bish) in 1923 and lived in various Saskatchewan towns where "Bish" taught school. They moved to Calgary in 1954 and then to the Mountview Lodge in Olds in 1987. Bish predeceased her in 1988. In the last year of her life, Beulah enjoyed a special friendship with Tessa, Justin, Sara and Jackie. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary and the Rebecca Lodge for many years. She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Gerry Jacques, and Louise and Norman Warthe; as well as by seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
BLACKPORT - Charles Ralph Blackport, age 89, passed away at the Nokomis Health Centre on Sunday January 17, 2016.
Ralph was born near Lockwood, SK to Jacob and Mary (Fischer) Blackport, on November 25, 1926 residing for most of his life on the farm east of Lockwood.Predeceasing Ralph were his parents, brothers Bill and John, John's wife Edna and her son Jim Mackenzie. Ralph's passing is mourned by his sister Katherine (Dolly) Blackport, brother Richard, sister-in-law Gudrun Blackport, nephew Doug Blackport (Lois Davidson), niece Maureen (Lorne) Bartel, niece Charlene Mackenzie (Jim Brown), niece Lori (Terry) Fogg and great nieces and nephews Kate; Kelsey, Brett, Jolene, Bryce and Rebecca; Jennifer; Neil, TJ and Logan; Jim's daughters Loretta and Crystal; and their families. Ralph farmed his own mixed farm until 1989. He was a hard worker, milking cows, tending the pigs, caring for the work horses, selling eggs, maintaining the yard and buildings, and harvesting with his brothers. Whether hens, or hogs or cows or calves, the bedding was always fresh, the hay thrown down from the loft. For a short while he worked construction in Manitoba with his brother John. He was lineman for the rural telephone company, built phone lines and maintained both crank and the new dial phones on party lines. He was also the caretaker for the Lockwood cemetery for many years. Ralph was very community-minded, a kind man, considerate and generous with his time and skills. He had a way of quietly showing up when help was needed, whether it was a building being raised, roof repaired or other projects, Ralph would be there. He would be found helping set up for Sports days, picnics, homecomings, bartending and enjoying the company of community friends. He never missed an auction sale. Throughout his life he participated in sports: curling, fishing and softball (biking as far away as Lampard for games), coached a girls' softball team (Charlie Brown's Angels) and helped organize pickup ball teams. Ralph and Richard lived with and took great care of their mother til her passing in 1995. Ralph also gave personally of his time to friend Dick Genge through Dick's long illness and passing. Ralph was fortunate to have Richard with him for the 10 years after his heart attack. A private family gathering will be held at Lockwood Cemetery at a later date.
BLACKPORT - Edna Mae Elizabeth (nee Taylor) McKenzie Blackport (1933 - 2011). Edna passed away on August 1, 2011 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was born on November 24, 1933 on the farm at Watrous, SK to Ken and Pearl Taylor, the second of six children: Doreen, Edna, Gordon, Hellen, Newton, and Margaret Rose. She attended school in the Kilmory school district and later in Watrous. After finishing school, she worked for a family in the area and also clerked at the MacLeods Store in Watrous. In 1956 she married Neil MacKenzie Jr. and they began their life together on the farm southwest of Lockwood. They were blessed with three children, Charlene, James and Lori-Ann. Neil passed away suddenly in November 1965, leaving Edna to raise three small children. She continued to run the family farm with help from her brother Newt until her retirement. Edna married John Blackport in 1971 and they resided on the farm until the summer of 1993, when they retired and moved to Nokomis. Sadly, John passed away in 2002. Edna decided to move to Invermay in 2003 to be closer to family. She resided there in her own home until her passing. Edna found much happiness in her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and loved listening to all their exciting news. She also believed that a good cup of tea was best enjoyed while visiting with friends and family and never missed the opportunity to "plug the kettlein ". She was an avid seamstress, making clothes and quilts for all her loved ones. She had great times with the Between Friends Quilting Guild as well as her new quilting friends in Invermay. Edna also loved to travel and toured across Canada and parts of the USA, including a trip up the Alaska Highway. She was a great one for chronicling the family's history and was meticulous with her notes about each and every family member. Photography was another passion. She just couldn't resist snapping that one last photo and every holiday or get-together was an opportunity to add to her photo collection. If it bloomed and was green she could grow it. Her love of flowers was legendary and her yard was enjoyed not only by herself, but by many who passed by her home. She had many feathered and four footed friends as well. Birds and squirrels were among her favourites and she always kept her bird and squirrel feeders filled with special treats for them. Edna had a strong sense of community, volunteering her time and energy to those causes she held near and dear. She was very supportive of school and children's groups, truly believing that children were our future and needed to be loved, nurtured and guided. She has supported the Terry Fox Run for the last 31 years, donated to TeleMiracle since its inception and faithfully attended Remembrance Day Services, laying wreaths in honour of family members who served. Edna was predeceased by her first husband Neil MacKenzie Jr., parents Ken and Pearl, husband John Blackport, her only son James MacKenzie and brother Gordon Taylor. She is survived by her children, Charlene(Jim) and Lori(Terry);sisters Doreen, Hellen, Margaret Rose; brother Newt; grandchildren Lauretta, Crystal, Chas, Neil, T.J., Logan and Jennifer; and ten great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Aug 4, 2011 at the Invermay Golden Age Club. The funeral service and interment were held Aug 5, 2011 at Lockwood.
BLACKPORT - John Jacob. The death of John Jacob Blackport aged 79 years occured on Friday, December 13, 2002 at the Regina General Hospital, Regina, SK. John was born in Lockwood on March 20, 1923, the eldest child of Jacob & Mary Blackport. He attended Howart School to grade 8. He worked for neighboring farmers, Albert Coleman & Bill Howat until July 1943 when he joined the R.C.A.F. He spent time in Brandon & Souris, Manitoba before going to Snag, Yukon. He was a cat-operator, keeping runways open for transport planes delivering supplies. He was discharged in 1945. He then took up farming, buying land from Dunc Meikle in 1953. In 1958 he bought a crawler tractor and a gravel truck and started gravelling roads and digging basements as well. He married Edna Mae MacKenzie, a widow on July 10, 1971. They lived on her farm with John working both places. When John married Edna he was blessed with three children the very same day; Charlene, James and Lori Ann. John and Edna retired from farming in 1989, although they continued to live on the farm until 1993 when they bought a house in Nokomis and moved into town. John was an active member of the Canadian Legion for 50 years, first in Lockwood and then in Nokomis. He rarely missed a meeting and spent many hours with his family, reminiscing about his years in the R.C.A.F. John enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing and growing up. He was always asking his daughters about them, wanting to know what they were doing. He also enjoyed traveling in the motorhome. He & Edna took numerous trips across Canada & the U.S. with family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held in the Nokomis United Church, Nokomis, SK. on Wednesday, December 18th, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Lockwood Cemetery.

BLACKPORT - Mary (nee Fischer). Mary Blackport was born March 3, 1901 to Jacob and Katherine Fischer in Schwab, Russia. In 1909, she immigrated with her parents, two brothers and one sister to Kansas, U.S.A.; in 1914 they (and now, 1 more brother) came up to Canada, settling west of Lockwood. At an early age she started working out, for people in her home district. On April 29, 1922, Mary married Jacob Blackport (born in Holland), who was also working in the Lockwood area. A year later they started farming west of Lockwood, moving to the Howat district, east of Lockwood in 1927. Here they raise a family of 4 boys and 1 girl (namely - John, Bill, Katherine, Ralph and Richard). Mary knew what it was like to live through the dirty thirties, but never really went hungry because she grew a big garden, raised chickens, milked cows, churned butter and sewed clothes for her family. She was well known as an excellent cook and an immaculate housekeeper. Mary was a founding member of the Prairie Rose Homemakers (now W.I.) and maintained membership from 1933 to 1994. She also received the honour of Life Membership. The results of her many years and dedicated work on the Lockwood Cemetery Committee, remains visible today. Mary was a great seamstress, making her dresses, many quilts and gifts. She loved crocheting - making doilies, cushion tops and afghans; she also liked to read and did so until about 1990 to 1992 when arthritis crippled her hands and her eye sight got bad. She always remembered special days like birthdays of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary was widowed on March 2, 1961, but continued to live on the farm with two of her sons (Ralph and Richard) until going to the Nokomis Health Centre on March 29, 1995. She had always been very independent. Mary was predeceased by her husband Jacob, son Bill, her parents, her brothers Jacob, George, Peter and Henry Fischer; sister Katie Schriener and grandson James MacKenzie. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her son John (Edna), children Charlene (Jim) and Lori (Terry). Daughter-in-law Gudrun, children Doug (Lois) and Maureen (Lorne). Daughter Katherine, sons Ralph and Richard. Sister-in-law Lydia Fischer of Kenosha, Wisconsin; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service at Nokomis United Church on Saturday, September 16th, 1995. Pallbearers: Bob Jabs, Ron Morningstar, Lorne Bartel, Gordon Howat, Albert Patzer, Terry Nornberg. Interment in Lockwood Cemetery.
BLACKPORT - William Henry. The funeral service of William Henry Blackport of Lanigan was held in the North Star Mennonite Church, Drake on Sunday, January 5, 1986 with Rev. Henry H. Funk officiating. The organist was Marjorie Kline. Special music was presented by the Male Quartet accompanied by Mary Schmidt. Pallbearers were Garth Burns, John Hurley, Robert Jabs, Jerry Langteigne, George Meikle and Terry Nornberg. Ushers were Doug Bartel and Bob Hamilton. William Blackport was born on June 7th, 1924. He was the second son of Jacob and Mary Blackport of Lockwood. He attended Howat School for eight years. His years of experience working for local farmers and the Government Experimental Farm prepared him for his career as a farmer. One winter was spent working days at a warehouse and nights at a Sudbury Nickel Mine to finance his first tractor. During the fifties he was employed by PFRA and for the last twenty-five years he was an agent for Hail Insurance. Among his other accomplishments was his skill as a craftsman, having built his own farm buildings and homes. Bill enjoyed travelling, hunting, fishing and Square Dancing. Through these activities and his work he formed many friendships which he treasured. In 1951 he married Gudrun Reykdal of Dafoe. They farmed together east of Lockwood until 1976 when they moved to Lanigan. They had two children, Douglas and Maureen. His family was important to him and in recent years his grandchildren were a special part of his life. Bill died January 2nd, 1986 following a determined fight against cancer. He was predeceased by his father Jacob in 1961. Left to remember Bill in special ways are: his wife Gudrun, his son Douglas, Sparwood, B.C.; his daughter Maureen and son-in-law Lorne and their children Kelsey, Brett and Jolene Bartel, Drake; his mother, Mary Blackport; his brothers, John and wife Edna, Ralph, and Richard, Lockwood; and sister Katherine, Nokomis. Interment was in Lockwood Cemetery. Funeral arrangement by McDougall's Funeral Home. The family was supported by their family members and many friends who joined them in their farewell to their loved one.
BOLGER - Welland. The death occurred early, on Wednesday morning, Feb 21, 1951 of Mr. Welland Bolger. Although, not enjoying good health, his passing was a great shock to his relatives and friends. Two weeks, after his brother's funeral he became seriously ill. He was a son of the late Justus Bolger and Catharine Coulter and was 74 years old. When quite young he went to the Western provinces where he got a homestead at Lockwood, Sask., and farmed until failing health compelled him to retire. For the past ten years, he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. H. Bolger in Almonte. He had many fine qualities, was very kind and thoughtful, and being of a quiet disposition he made many friends who learned with regret of his passing. He is survived by, one brother George Bolger, of Clayton. The funeral was held from the home of his brother and a beautiful service was conducted by Rev. H. C. Wolfraim. The remains were placed in the vault at the United Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. Wm. Bellamy, Wm. Bolger, Herbert Bolger, Edgar Hudson, Mack Richards and Herbert Rath. Many beautiful floral tributes were received which testified to the love and esteem in which the deceased was held.
BONNEY - Benno Wayne (November 9, 1933 - Apr 18, 2015). Ben was born at home in a small farm house near Lockwood, SK, the youngest of 16 children. His family later moved to Jansen, SK, where Ben began school and later transferred to Illinois Country School in the RM of Leroy, SK.
At age 10, Ben became a follower of Jesus Christ, a decision that would be an integral part of the rest of his life. On June 12, 1957, he married Evelyn Elsie Seifert. God blessed their marriage with three children, David, Barry and Sharon. Ben began farming and doing construction on the side. Later, he quit farming and began his own contracting company in LeRoy. Though always actively involved in his local church and Gideon's International, later on in his life, Ben felt called into pastoral ministry and served several churches while continuing to work in construction. Two years ago, Ben and Evelyn moved to Prince Albert to be closer to part of their family. They also found
new friends in their condo complex, and church families. Ben will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn (nee Seifert) Bonney; their three children: David (Dawn), Barry (LaWanda), and Sharon; his two sisters: Helen Kupp and Alice McLellan; and 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
BUSHMAN - Peter Bushman of Drake, Sask. passed away June 13, 1999. He was born May 11, 1921 to Peter and Elizabeth Bushman at Fischau, Ukraine. In March 1926 his father died. Later that year, the family immigrated to Guernsey, Sask. His mother died in 1937. Peter and his brother Dave moved near Lockwood, Sask. In his teens, Peter accepted Christ. In 1942 he was baptized in Manitou Lake and joined Philadelphia MB Church in Watrous, Sask. He married Agnes Schroeder July 9, 1948. Their home was marked by love, laughter and acceptance. Peter loved picnics, pitching his "sucker ball" at softball games and playing hockey and table games. His family was a priority, and he loved to tease, joke and play pranks. He drew strength from his faith in God. At 49, he suffered a stroke, but carried on farming with the help of his sons. In 1994 he was diagnosed with diabetes. In May 1999 he was diagnosed with mini strokes and severe Alzheimer�s. He was granted his wish to live at home with Agnes until 2 weeks before his death. He is mourned by Agnes; children Les of Drake, Elsie Toman of Guernsey, Marie Fick of Lanigan, Sask., Len of Prince Albert, Sask., Donald of Saskatoon, Eldon of Clive, Alta., Ken of Watrous, Edith Driediger of Nokomis, Sask., Richard of Watrous and Robert of Hepburn, Sask.; 31 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The funeral was June 16 in Philadelphia MB Church, with Ernie Bergen ministering.

CHUTE - Jeanne Catherine (nee Gammie) Chute passed away at Nokomis, SK. on Monday, March 14, 2005 at 82 years of age. Jeanne was born at Lockwood, SK. the second of nine children of Alex and Violet Gammie (eight girls and one boy). Jeanne went to school and was raised in the Howat School District. In 1945 she married John Chute, and moved, and lived near Kutawagan until retirement to Nokomis in 1978. They had one son, Kenneth (Deanna) of Halifax and daughter Shirley (Brian) of Preeceville. Jeanne's hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, baking, as well as making jams and jellies. Jeanne was a member of Mount Hope Homemakers for a few years and was a member of the United Church Women since 1962. Jeanne was also a Director of the Nokomis Agricultural Society. Jeanne and husband John had a passion for travelling, and travelled in Canada from the west coast (Victoria) to the east coast (St. John's, Newfoundland) as well as parts in between. Jeanne had an independent nature that allowed her to stay in her Nokomis home until deteriorating health forced her to move into the Nokomis Health Center in the fall of 2002. She is survived by: her daughter, Shirley (Brian) Neufeld of Preeceville and her son, Kenneth (Deanna) of Halifax, NS; grandchildren, Darren (Kelly) Grande Cache, AB, Deanna Neufeld of Saskatoon and Holly Chute of Nova Scotia as well as great-granddaughters Jessica and Taylor Neufeld, Grande Cache, AB. Also surviving are: sisters, Mary Worley and Anne Wentz (Devon) both of Melfort, Hazel Wentz (Roy) of Humboldt, Nell Friesen of Drake, Alice Kane (Ken) of Regina, Irene Forner (Harvey) of Lethbridge, AB and brother, Morris (Anne) Gammie of Saskatoon. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Hazel Chute Mollison, Nokomis and Betty Chute of Halifax, NS, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by: her husband John and her sister Mirianne; sister-in-law, Ella Beeler; brothers-in-law, Ernie Wilhelm, Ernie Worley and Abe Friesen, as well as her parents, Alex and Violet Gammie. The funeral service was held at Nokomis United Church on Friday,March 18th at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. George Holliday officiating. Organist was Lorna Mansell. The Nokomis Church Choir was in attendance. Special music was provided by the Chute Family. Holly Chute played a flute solo, The Ashokan Farewell. Belle Hobman gave the eulogy. Honourary pallbearers were all her family and friends. Pallbearers were Alf Dennis, Bob Walker, Dale Driediger, Jonathan Powell, Rueben Proseilo and Earle Mansell. Interment followed in Nokomis Cemetery.
COLEMAN - Margaret Edith (nee Ellis) Dec. 17 1920 - Dec. 16, 2005. It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of a dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Margaret. She passed away in Nokomis Health Centre in the early morning of Friday Dec. 16, 2005. She was the fifth child born to Ernest and Anna Ellis. She was a fantastic woman who would help anyone who needed it and never complained. She loved her family so much and couldn't wait to see them. She also loved her gardening, flowers and baking. She married Richard Coleman on Oct. 28, 1944 and they farmed east of Lockwood for several years. They had two children, Carol Ann and Vernon Earl. They moved to Nokomis in 1975 where they still reside. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard of 61 years, daughter Carol, son Verne and 2 grandchildren Sherri (Todd) Little and Tim (Jeri) Goldfinch and 6 great-grandchildren and sister Donelda Hendry of Nipawin, sisters-in law Connie St. Onge, Mary Ellis, Vera Coleman, Dorothy Coleman, brother-in-law Gordon Ewen, several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Ernest, mother Anna, brothers Alex, Mac, Ernest and Bill, and sister Verna Morningstar, sisters-in-law Cathy Ellis and Grace Ewen. Memorial Service on Monday, December 19th, 2005 at Nokomis United Church at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Lockwood Cemetery.
CROSS - Glen L. Lockwood and Nokomis districts were saddened last week by the sudden death of Glenn L. Cross of Lockwood on August 16, 1978 in Lanigan Hospital. Funeral Service was held August 19th from All Saints Anglican Church in Duck Lake, conducted by Father Doug Ohs. Interment was in All Saints Anglican Cemetery in Duck Lake. Surviving are his wife Margaret; one daughter, Mrs. R. (Anne) Reinhardt of Leader, Sask; two sons, Glen B. Cross, of Prince Albert and Earl T. Cross of North Battleford and two grandsons.

DOIDGE - Edward Marion Doidge was born in Wynyard, Sask. on June 4th, 1947. He was the youngest son of Art and Elsie Doidge of Dafoe, SK. He was named after the Doctor who delivered him (Dr. Polec). Edward went to Foote, then Kandahar School to complete his education. He worked on the family farm until offered employment with the R. M. of Prairie Rose. Edward also operated a corral cleaning business and farmed. Sideline jobs included bush clearing, moving buildings and burying rock piles. This year he wanted to bury his broda chair! Edward was a natural mechanic and like his father could fix anything. A special interest was antique vehicles and he helped put a few of these together and in running order. He took great pride in his ability to run and maintain huge road building equipment and continued in this line of work until health problems in 2008. Edward was good company. He enjoyed a good joke, drinking, smoking, gambling, dancing and travelling. He will be remembered for his quick wit, great sense of humour and skill for keeping his eye on the ball. Edward is survived by "Cinder", his faithful, loyal companion; brother Bill; sisters, Violet Ewasiuk, Mary (Ron) Bertrand, Margaret Colley, Nelda (Matt) Chychrun, Lottie (Terry) Petriew, Isabel (James) Holm, Judy (Gary) Lapine, Beverley (Gordon) Kent; sister-in-law Janet (Chester) Jones. Edward was predeceased by his father and mother Art and Elsie Doidge; his brother James; his brothers-in-law Bob Colley and Steve Ewasiuk. Edward suffered a debilitating stroke on January 21, 2011 that left him paralysed and bedridden. His weary hours and days of pain ended on May 20, 2012.
DOIDGE - Elizabeth Gertrude (nee Nadiger). It is with great sadness, but in gratitude for a long life well lived, that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Beth) Doidge at age 87. Elizabeth Gertrude was born in Nokomis SK on February 8, 1925 to Joseph and Byng (Redman) Nadiger. She was second-born and the oldest daughter in a family of five children. The family lived in the Haliburton area, and she attended Haliburton School. Following Grade 12, Mom and her younger sister, Aline went to "Normal School" in Regina. Mom subsequently taught school in several one-room schools in Saskatchewan. She married Wilfred Doidge on November 12, 1949. They settled on the farm in the Saline Creek area, approximately 10 miles south of Dafoe, SK. Their first two children, Joanne and Patricia, were born while they were on the farm. They moved to Wadena, SK, then to Jansen, SK where Dad bought grain for the Searle Grain Company. During this time Linda and Gary were born. In 1968 they moved to Semans, SK. Mom then worked as a teller at the Semans Credit Union, retiring in the early 1980's. Mom enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, weekend getaways, and time spent at the cabin at Last Mountain Regional Park. However, for Mom, family was her priority, and she devoted much time and energy to ensuring all her family members were cared for. She was selfless, humble, caring, non-judgemental, and kind. In her retirement years, she enjoyed cooking, baking, and keeping her home prepared for visits from the grandchildren. Her grandchildren have many stories to attest to the fun they had at Grandma and Grandpa�s. During her entire life she lived and practiced her Christian faith quietly and consistently, and she was very active in the Semans United Church. She was widowed in 1993, and in 2002 moved to Regina. The development of Alzheimer's Disease forced her to relinquish her independence, and she moved first to a Personal Care Home, then to Long Term Care. At both facilities she adjusted well, and the staff enjoyed her fun-loving and sociable personality. We are grateful for the love and excellent care provided to Mom by the staff at Prairie Lily Personal Care Home and on Main 5 at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, along with the medical care of Dr. Bestor. Mom passed away peacefully on February 4, just four days short of her 88th birthday. She is predeceased by parents, Joseph and Byng Nadiger, husband Wilfred Doidge, parents-in-law Walter and Blanche Doidge, sister Margaret in infancy, brother Walter, sister Aline (Ritz), brothers-in-law Louis Ritz and Bill Ellis, brother and sister-in-law Ted and Mary Doidge, and sons-in-law Wayne Bolt and Wally Davidson. She is survived by daughters Joanne Bolt, Patricia Davidson (Perry Masters), Linda (Dwayne) Law, and son Gary Doidge; grandchildren Dean Bolt, Chad (Amanda) Bolt, Brad Davidson, Mitch Davidson, Jared Davidson, Taryl Law, Janelle Law; great-grandchildren Hayley and Jake Davidson, Hannah Bolt; brother Herb (Elaine) Nadiger, sister Connie (Don) St. Onge, sister-in-law Pinky Nadiger, and nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be at Semans United Church on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Deacon Jack Robson officiating.
DUMANSKI - Anna Margrete Traphene (nee Campbell) was born to Charles and Mary Campbell on January 1, 1917 in Nokomis, SK, and passed away October 15, 2008 at Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan. Margrete took her schooling at Floradale and Lockwood schools. She married Nick Dumanski on December 6, 1939. They farmed on her Dad's homestead till 1955, at which time they took over the Telephone Exchange which she ran until it was automated. She lived in Lockwood to age 90 years when a stroke made it necessary to go into long term care. Margrete was a life time member of the Prairie Rose W.I. and secretary of the Lockwood Cemetery Committee. Her hobbies were gardening and looking after her yard and flowers, knitting, her photo albums and scrapbooks, baking, reading and her beloved crossword puzzles. Family was a very important part of her life, she was happiest when they were all around her, and was always interested in what was happening in their busy lives. Margrete is survived by one daughter and three sons: Darwin (Isabelle) Dumanski, Brent, Doug (Denise), Dale (Michelle), Kevin (Kim), stepchildren Donna (Doug) Ayres. DUMANSKI - Darwin. It is with great sadness that the family of Darwin Dumanski announces his passing after a long and courageous battle with cancer on September 29th, 2010. Darwin was born April 30th, 1943 in Lanigan, SK. to Margrete and Nick Dumanski. Darwin was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his wife Isabelle, sons Dale (Michelle) and their children Miles and Peyton, Kevin (Kim) and their son Brett, Doug (Denise) and their children Jozef and Natalie, and Brent (Shelley); his two stepdaughters Donna (Doug) Ayres and their children Jason, Jodi, Steven and Jennifer, and Dee Dee (Randy) Wilkinson and their children Shelby and Ashley; sister Lynn (Nick) Bakouris; brothers Don (Terry Ann) and Ken (Judy); Uncle Steve (Sophie); Aunt Mary; and many wonderful nephews, as well as great nieces and great nephews and cousins. Darwin was a grain buyer for many years and had the privilege of meeting many wonderful people in the farming community. He also enjoyed socializing with his family and special friends. DUMANSKI - Nicholas Alexander Dumanski was born December 19, 1915 to Peter and Anna Dumanski at Theodore, Saskatchewan. He came to the White Farms in the Floradale District as a farm labourer. In 1939 he married Margrete Campbell. He purchased his Father-in-laws farm in 1959. In 1955 Nick and Marg took over the Lockwood telephone exchange, he as the lineman and Marg the "Hello Girl" until 1965. He farmed from town until 1973. Nick was always interested in curling, baseball and hockey. He had been a member of Sask Wheat Pool, Rural Telephone Co., Lockwood Curling Club, Local School Board and Lockwood Town Council. His biggest hobby was gardening, trees and his yard; watching TV and going for a drive everyday checking the crops. His heart was still in the farm. He was always ready to lend a hand. Nick was predeceased by his parents; brothers Bill, Matt and Walter; sister-in-law Lil; sister Rose Nidesh, brothers-in-law Fred Klewchuk, John Gara. EDWARDS - Justin F. Edwards aged 77 years of Shaunavon, Sk. and formerly of Bracken, Sk., died on Friday, March 21, 2003 at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 5, 1925 at Nokomis, Sk. He was raised and began working for various farmers in the Lockwood, Sk. area, where he met his future wife Marie Chelle. Justin came to the Bracken area in 1947 and worked doing custom combining in the United States. He bought his own farm at Bracken in 1949. He married Marie Chelle on July 11, 1949 at Frenchville. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards lived and farmed north of Bracken until they semi-retired and moved into Bracken in February 1981. He moved his house to Shaunavon in 1991. Justin was a member of the Knights of Columbus and loved bowling, hunting and his family. Justin was predeceased by Marie, his loving wife of forty years, on August 17, 1989, his parents, his brothers Bob, Dan, Paul, Phil and Pat, his sister Marie, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his son, Francis (Darlene) of Nanton, Alberta and their children Rob (Leanne), great-grandchildren Ashley and Cody, Shane (Jodi), David (Aliesha), his daughter Anne Brookes (Grant) of Weyburn, Saskatchewan and their children Chantelle and Christopher, his son William (Bev) of Cypress Hills Park, Sk, his daughter Rita Rapley (Clinton) of Bracken, Sk and their children Donna (Darren), Sarah (Willem) and Tyson, his daughter Agnes Folbar (Miles) of Shaunavon, Sk and their children Corey (Crystal), Curtis (Allison) and Chrysta (Dion), and his daughter H�l�ne Van Sandt (Gary) of Shaunavon, Sk and their children Tiffany and Donavon, one brother Bert (Marie) of Vermilion, AB, three sisters, Beatrice Sears of Summerland, B.C., Sister Helen Edwards of Edmonton, AB and Agnes Fink (Ed) of Vancouver, B.C., as well as by numerous nieces nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. EICHORST - Muriel Adelle Rose (nee Turner) April 25, 1943 - September 25, 2001. Muriel was born in Nokomis on April 25, 1943. She was the second youngest in a family of five boys and two girls. Her parents were Rose and William Turner. Muriel was raised on her parents' farm east of Lockwood. She was very active in the Lockwood 4-H club. She brought cattle to Saskatoon for showing on several occasions. After graduation from Lanigan High School she went to Teachers College in Saskatoon and finished in 1962. She then taught school in Castor, Alberta, Guernsey and Sinnett. During her grade eleven year she met this handsome cat operator, Gordon, who she later married on July 17, 1964. Together they raised a family of two boys, Rob and Rick and, as well, had a successful grain and cattle operation. She was diagnosed with cancer in November of 1997. She had several surgeries and many chemo and radiation treatments over those years. This struggle did not prevent her from carrying on as family. Her strength, her courage, her patience and her faith in God were all evident to those who knew her. Muriel was pre-deceased by her parents, her brother Russel, her mother and father-in-law Fred and Carrie and a brother-in-law Martin Stephan. She leaves to mourn her husband of 37 years Gordon; her sons Rob (Allison) and Rick; two grandsons, William and Adam; a sister Doreen (Bill) Appelt; brothers Ivore (Sheila), Dale (Judy), Allister (Viola) and Bob (Meagan); sister-in-law Ann Turner. As well, Muriel leaves to mourn sisters-in-law Evelyn (Elmer) Prange, Phyllis (Alfred) Reimer, Joyce (George) Siegel, Jean (Allan) Orchard, Marie (Lloyd) Gratton, Caroline (Eric) Thrane, Pat (Dennis) McFarland and numerous nieces and nephews. ELDRED - Lowell Ray. On Sunday, October 22, 2006, Lowell Ray Eldred passed away at the age of 88 years. He was born on December 14th, 1917 in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. At an early age, he and his family moved to Lockwood, Saskatchewan, where he received his schooling. In 1939, he joined the RCAS First Division, serving in WW II until 1945. Upon his return, he worked in a grocery store in Regina. In 1949, he married Marjorie Magnes. That same year, they moved to Mortlach, where they purchased and ran a grocery store until 1978. Over the years, he enjoyed curling, collecting antiques and he always loved being behind the wheel of the car. In his retirement, he continued his love of antiques by being instrumental in the startup of the Mortlach Museum and Dropin Centre. His greatest love in his life was his wife and family. Ray was predeceased by his brother Al. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marjorie; son Bob (Amanda) and their children, Michael, Timothy and Meagan of Regina; brothers-in-law Ken (Kay) Magnes of Revelstoke, BC; Raymond (Alice) of Edmonton, AB; Alistair Fraser (Nora) of Humboldt, SK; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. ELDRED - Rhoda Mary (nee Bell) passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness, on December 20th, 2006 at Santa Maria Sr. Citizens Home, at the age of 84 years. Born April 15, 1922 in Lanigan, Sask., Mary grew up on a farm near Lockwood. After High School, she attended Regina Business College and became a copywriter for many years for CKCK radio. In mid life, she studied The History of Art at University of Regina, volunteering with the MacKenzie Art Gallery Traveling Arts school program. An avid walker, Mary enjoyed daily exercise, summer or winter and the camaraderie of her friends. A prodigious gardener and amateur horticulturalist, her gift for raising plants and her green thumb were legendary among her family, friends and colleagues. Predeceased by her husband Klillard and her two sisters Anna (Harrison) and Margaret (Jones), Mary is survived by her twin sister, Bessie Bowman (New Westminster), her Sister-in-law Marge Eldred (Moose Jaw), Brother-inLaw, Wally Harrison (Victoria), nieces and nephews: Bob Eldred (Regina), Robin & Paige Harrison (Victoria), Garth and Ken Anderson (Vancouver), Hugh Jones(Sechelt) and Tom Jones (Ottawa) and families as well as her devoted cousins Brian and Lynne Lynch (Regina) and Marilyn and Richard Gosselin (Fort Qu'Appelle); cousins and friends. Mary will always be remembered for her exuberant enthusiasm for living, her kind and gentle ways, her distinctive laugh, her storytelling, her picture taking, and her readiness to please and help others. A Celebration of Mary's life will be held at St. James United Church, 4506 Sherwood Drive, Regina, on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 1100 a.m. with Rev.Laura Sundberg officiating. FISCHER - Mary (nee Stuckert) - It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our dear Mother and Grandmother on June 8th, 2002 at Oliver Lodge. Mary was born on a farm near Lockwood on November 4th, 1908. In 1931 she married Theodore Fischer and they were blessed with seven children. Ted and Mary moved to Regina in 1954 where mother worked at the Grey Nun's Nursing School until she retired. After father's death in 1983, Mother moved to Saskatoon where she resided until her passing. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Ted and young daughter Peggy Joyce, her parents, three sisters and one brother. She is survived by her children June (Hilton) Hughes of Lockwood, Vernell (Walter) Freybe of Abbotsford, B.C., Shirley (Robert) Gordon of Saskatoon, Edward (Carol Bryan) of Victoria, B.C., Clarence (Edna Hodel) of Regina, Vernon (Shirley Anne Allemersch) of Victoria, B.C. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and one sister, Polly Stuckert of Vancouver, B.C. A service of Remembrance will be held in the United Church of Nokomis on June 15, 2002 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Lockwood Cemetery.
FISCHER - Ronald G. A memorial service for Ronald G. Fischer Sr., 88, was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2007, at Powell Valley Covenant Church, Gresham, Ore. A private military burial was Monday, September 24, 2007, in Willamette National Cemetery, Gresham. Arrangements were by Gresham Memorial Chapel, Gresham. He was born September 20, 1918, in Lockwood, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Pete and Anna Scheffe Fischer and died Wednesday, September 19, 2007. When he was 9 months old, the family moved to the Silverton, British Columbia, Canada, area. At age 10, he moved with his family to Covington, where he completed his education. He worked in the Eugene and Springfield, Ore., areas. He joined the Army March 7, 1941, serving during World War II with the rank of Technician 4th Grade. He married Margaret C. Jensen April 3, 1943. He was honorably discharged December 13, 1945. They settled in Troutdale, Ore. in 1946, and moved to East County, Ore, in 1948. She died in 1982. He married Lucille Thomas in 1983. She died in 1985. In 1992 he married Evelyn Maxwell and in 2006, they moved to Gresham. He worked as an electrician for ACE Electric, retiring in 1981. He was a 55-year member of IBEW Local 48 - Electricians Union. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn of Gresham; one daughter, Bobbie Jean Krause of Conroe, Texas; one son, Ronald G. Fischer Jr. of Manzanita, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Marsha Allen and Barbara Jenkens, both of Portland, Ore.; siblings, Pete Fischer of Midland, Texas, Martin Fischer of Peoria, Ariz., Rose Nelson of Tehachtapi, Calif., and Evelyn Kimmell of Enid; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives, Margaret and Lucille, five brothers, and one sister.
FORNER - Anita Isabelle (nee Ritz). The death of Anita Isabelle Forner age 89 years of Lanigan, SK occurred at the Lanigan Hospital on Tuesday, January 14, 2003. A Memorial Service will be held in Knox United Church, Lanigan, SK on Tuesday, January 21st at 2:00 p.m. Predeceased by her husband Andrew; three brothers; one sister. She is survived by three sisters Alda Birtles & Jean Peterson of Lanigan and Edna Miekle of Lockwood. She is also survived by Harvey (Irene) Forner of Lethbridge, AB., to whom she was a special friend and "Adopted Mother" and "Step-Grandmother"' and their children, Barb (Gaston) de la Sablonniere of Regina, Bonnie (Daryl) Nixon of Regina, Brenda (Darcy) Elder of Red Deer, AB, Carolyn (Gary) Maher of Calgary, AB, Cheryl Forner (Alan Youell) of Calgary, AB; step-granddaughter Arlene (Ted) Ure, and their children, Leah (Rob) Johnston, Dana Ure, Tara Ure all of Windsor, ON.
FORNER - Ethel Caroline (nee Ritz). Ethel was born March 8th 1914 at the farm northwest of Lockwood, she was the third of eight children. As was the case with many young farm girls at that time she went to work on other farms to help with household chores and caring for young children. During this time she met Bud Forner and they were married December 3rd, 1935. In 1937 they had a son Harvey, and shortly after moved to Hamilton, Ontario, where Ethel worked at Westinghouse as a 'set-up-girl' for an assembly line production for the war effort. In 1949 they moved to Wadena, Saskatchewan. Ethel worked in the Wadena Hospital as a nurse's aid and very much enjoyed the job. In 1951 they moved back to Lockwood to the family farm. Ethel was a very energetic farm wife. There were cattle, horses, chickens, geese, turkey raising etc. In her 'spare time' she made wonderful quilts, wonderful baking - remember those buns! She always had a big garden and did a lot of canning. There was always a big meal for anyone who came and all were welcome. After moving to Nokomis in the 70's she continued to curl (posted an eight ender), gardened and baked bread and buns. Ethel was active in the Canadian Legion Auxiliary and served as president for a period of time. She continued to make quilts for many new borns and many new brides. Following Bud's death in 1994 she continued to enjoy her many friends in Nokomis and district as well as all her Regina Mends. We will all miss her great spirit, positive attitude and her many jokes and stories. She was predeceased by her husband Bud in 1994, and her brothers Merner and Louis. Ethel is survived by one son Harvey (Irene) of Lethbridge; granddaughters Barbara (Gaston) de la Sablonniere, Bonnie (Daryl) Nixon, Brenda (Darcy) Elder, Carolyn Hudyma (Gary Maher), Cheryl Forner; eleven great grand children. She will also be missed by her sisters, Anita Forner, Jean Peterson, Edna Meikle, Alda Birtles; one brother Perry (Margaret) Ritz; sister-in-law Aline Ritz. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews. Memorial Service at Nokomis United Church on Friday, February 18th, 2000. Interment in Lockwood Cemetery.
FORNER - George Andrew "Bud" (August 31, 1914 - October 31, 1994).
Bud was born on the NE 1/4 of Sec 34 TP 30 Rge 23 West of 2nd in the Lockwood district to May and Andrew Forner. He attended Boulder Lake School and Lockwood High School. Bud married Ethel Ritz on December 3, 1935 and started farming on a farm 4 miles west of Lockwood. A son, Harvey was born on April 9, 1937. Bud moved the family to Geralton, Ontario in 1941 and to Hamilton, Ontario in 1942. He joined the army in December 1944; receiving his discharge in February 1946. He then returned to the family farm at Lockwood. In 1950 he moved to Wadena, returning once more to the family farm in 1953; where he farmed until his retirement in 1979. His retirement hobbies of training horses, making harness, building and repairing horse drawn vehicles, and welding were much akin to full-time farming. Upon leaving the farm, Bud and Ethel moved to Nokomis where Bud enjoyed working in his harness shop. Bud was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Mabel McFarland. Bud is survived by his wife, Ethel; son, Harvey(Irene); granddaughters Barbara (Glen) Beckel of Regina; Bonnie (Daryl) Nixon of Regina; Brenda (Darcy) Elder of Hanna, Alberta; Carolyn Hudyma (Wayne Deck) of Regina and Cheryl Forner of Regina; great grandchildren: Chris, Jeremy, Jennifer, Alycia Beckel; Rob, Amy Nixon; Jonathon, Alex, Ben Elder; Lindsay, Drew Hudyma; and many friends. FORNER - Harvey George (April 9, 1937 - March 14, 2011) beloved husband of Irene (Gammie) passed away quietly, surrounded by family after a courageous and determined fight with cancer, following surgery in Calgary. His passion for life and determination to meet every challenge head-on saw him through a full 21 years after his first diagnosis. This example of courage continues to encourage and give hope to others in whatever challenge they face. Raised as an only child, Harvey was a committed and devoted husband, Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather. Leading by example, Harvey's dedication and fierce love for his family defines the meaning of family. Harvey was born and raised in a small rural community, Lockwood, Sask. He married his high school sweetheart Irene over 55 years ago. Together they moved to Regina for a career with SaskTel. They raised their family in both Regina and at the farm near Richardson SE of Regina. Many summers included travelling to the family homestead near Lockwood in the retirement years while also enjoying life in Lethbridge for the past 14 years. Harvey was an avid volunteer and especially enjoyed coaching curling. Curling took on a special interest when grandchildren became successfully involved. Always the inventor, Harvey had a passion for finding new ways to make things work. His workshop, with his tools and creative mind, developed many interesting projects. Family reunions, camping, fishing and travelling throughout North America visiting extended family was enjoyed for decades. Other trips over the years included cruises and touring Europe with the love of his life and best friend, Irene. Harvey will be lovingly remembered and missed by wife Irene, his 5 daughters, 5 sons-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Barb (Gaston de la Sablonniere) children: Christopher Beckel (Suzanne with Emaleigh & William); Jeremy Beckel; Jennifer (Justus Smith with Sascha & Sophia); Alycia (Gavin Crawford); Patrick de la Sablonniere (Crystal); David de la Sablonniere (Chantel with Monique & Katelyn); Bonnie (Daryl Nixon) children: Rob Nixon (Dana with Hannah & Tucker); Amy Nixon (Mike Westlund); Brenda (Darcy Elder) children: Jon, Alex, Ben (Megan Boschman); Carolyn (Gary Maher) children: Lindsay Hudyma (Drew Gilbertson); Drew Hudyma; Cheryl Forner (Alan Youell). FYLES - Mary M. (nee Goettler) Fyles passed away on Sunday, March 25th, 2001 at her Extendicare Residence in Saskatoon. She is survived by two sons; James of Winnipeg, and Michael (Jean) of Calgary, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters; Teresa (Bud) Little of Saskatoon, and Margery Schlacter of Racine, Wisconsin, one brother John (Jean) Goettler of Winnipeg, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William and son Jackie. Mary was born in Lockwood, SK. on December 22nd, 1922 to Jack and Mary Goettler. Her father was a teacher and she took her early schooling in the many small Saskatchewan communities where her family lived. She completed her secondary education at Sacred Heart Academy in Regina, and then continued on to finish Business School, prior to starting her working career with the Government of Saskatchewan. She met and married William Fyles in Regina and they soon moved to Calgary where they spent the years of WW II. Upon returning to Regina Mary started a career in Real Estate and was the first female real estate agent in the city. Mary was active in her church and served for many years as president of the Holy Rosary Parish CWL. She also contributed many volunteer hours working with the White Cross. In 1974 Mary and William moved to Fort Qu'Appelle where they spent 21 years in retirement until William's death in 1995, after which Mary re-located to make Saskatoon her new home. Mary loved painting, and enjoyed cooking, dancing, singing, and the fellowship of good friends. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her loving family and all who knew her. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks and appreciation, to the dedicated staff and administration at Extendicare for the compassionate care Mary received over the past number of years. The Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, March 28th, at 10:00 a.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the family plot at Rosedale Cemetery in Moose Jaw SK, at a future date.

HERR - Lloyd was born on the family farm on March 8, 1930 to Henry and Mollie Herr. He lived there his entire life until his passing. Lloyd began farming with his father, Henry. Henry and Mollie moved off the farm in 1972 when Lloyd married Margaret Kisby (Wood) on July 15, 1972. Lloyd and Margaret started a family life with children Gregory, Perry and Jacqueline. The family enjoyed their new farm life thoroughly. His other love besides his farm was music. Lloyd was known to everyone for his talented saxophone playing. He played for five years with a popular dance band known as "Drake Band" at Danceland, Manitou Beach on Saturday nights. In the 1970's and 80's he played with the "Melodies"; Dorothy and Clarence Davidson of Lanigan; also a band called the L.J.D.'s (Donald Herr, Janice Attfleld, Jack Robson and Don Lynch). The last band he played and organized consisted of sister-in-law Kathy Powell, Bud Guenther, Don Lynch and his wife, Margaret. He continued to play even after a heart attack and failing health. He enjoyed seeing his grandson Bradley play the trumpet in his school band the last two years. Lloyd was widely known as an avid sportsman. He excelled in baseball. Playing and coaching a lifetime of ball, mainly the Lockwood Braves and Lockwood Twilighters. He received his twenty year recognition in 1995 with the Twilighters. His other passion was hockey, playing with the Lockwood High School, Nokomis and Simpson Flyers for fourteen years. He coached Minor Hockey in Drake for a number of years. He enjoyed this year watching his grandson Jesse play his first hockey games! Lloyd was an active member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Committee, Lockwood Community Club and Lockwood Choir. No matter where you went, someone knew him from either baseball or music and was always eager for a visit or a talk. Lloyd's health failed the last years, but continued to have strong will and show courage. He passed away at Lanigan Union Hospital on March 14, 1998 with his family at his side. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Margaret, son Gregory (Lana) Herr and their children Bradley and Lindsay of White City, Perry Herr of Saskatoon and Jacqueline (James) Stephan and children Jesse and Josh of Lanigan; brothers Irving (Gertrude) of Akikokan, ON, Donald (Eileen) of Nokomis, SK; sister Doreen (Ron) Messer of Weyburn, SK; Lloyd's brother-in-law Bob (Polly) Wood, Watrous, SK, Harold Wood, Thorne Hill, ON, sisters-in-law Dorothy Brown, Fergus, ON, Betty (Wally) Bennet, Weston, ON, Kathy Powell, Saskatoon, SK, Florence Rattray, Govan, SK, Ella Dovost, Couquitlam, BC, Donna Morrow, Blind Bay, BC. HERR - Margaret (nee Wood) was born October 30, 1930 at the Haliburton Farm, along with twin sister Kathy. She was the 5th child of eleven children born to Garry and Marjorie Wood. Marg attended Haliburton School and had great memories of the one room schoolhouse, Christmas concerts, playing ball and hockey at the Robson farm. She was a "true" Alkali Savage! After school years she had various jobs including working for Sandy Blair as a housekeeper and at Watrous with Ted Klassen at Klassen Foods. She resided in Saskatoon and married Elroy Kisby in 1953. She worked at Shelly Bros for many years. Marg and Elroy welcomed into the world Greg in 1956, Perry in 1962 and Jacqueline in 1965. After the untimely death of Elroy in 1970 Margaret met Lloyd Herr of Lockwood and they were married in July 1972. The family loved their farm life. Margaret took an active role on the farm and was very involved in the Lockwood community. She spent many hours following her kids hockey, ball games, concerts and recitals. The family spent endless hours and holiday summers watching and following the Lockwood Braves. She missed very few games and took an active role in the function of the team as she followed with Lloyd as he played and coached for many years. She held the Lockwood Braves close to her heart. She also had a passion for the Toronto Blue Jays; she watched all the games on TV, even in her last months in the hospital. She could tell you the Blue Jay's stats at anytime! Marg helped put on some amazing and entertaining curling programs. She participated and supported the Terry Fox Run and received a plaque for 20 years. She was an award winning canner, her jams and jellies were often seen at the Nokomis Fair and won a provincial ribbon for her jelly. Music was an important part of Marg's life; she played the banjo in the Herr Orchestra along with Lloyd, sister Kathy, Don Lynch and Bud Guenther. She was at Lloyd's side as he played with the Roadrunners (Robsons) and the Melodies (Davidsons) from Lanigan for many years. She loved her family "jam sessions" and the music of the Haliburton clan. Margaret was a dedicated hockey fan. She loved the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Lanigan Pirates. She was often seen at the rink many times a week watching her grand children play their games and skating. She was ever so proud watching them and had a competitive spirit. Margaret remained on the farm, a place close to her heart, even after Lloyd's passing in 1998. She moved to Lanigan in 2010 and remained home until June 2013 as she was hospitalized until her passing. Marg was a lady of great courage and strength with a wonderful and witty sense of humour. She loved to visit and always took the time to stop and talk to anyone. She leaves to mourn, sons Greg (Lana) Herr, Brad and Lynette and Lindsay; Perry (Krista) Herr and Taylor and Cody; and daughter Jacqueline (James) Stephan, and Jesse, Josh and Jay; sister Betty Bennett and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. The family wishes to extend a big thank you for all the support in these last months and to the Dr's and nurses at St. Paul's Hospital and to Dr. Saxena and the nurses and staff at Lanigan Hospital, they are wonderful. A graveside service will be held at Lockwood Cemetery Friday, September 13 at 11 a.m. Everyone welcome with lunch to follow at Nokomis Centennial Hall.
HOBMAN - Clayton, loving husband, son, father, and grandfather, passed away at the Nokomis Health Centre on Saturday May 24th, 2008. Left to mourn him is his wife, Ann, of almost 47 years. Sons Doug (Sherry), Samantha (Mylyn) and Stacey, Mark (Faye), Quinten, and Emmitt, Dean (Kimli), Paige and Holly, daughter Crystal (Harvey), John and Scott. His mother, Belle, brother Dennis (Kathy), sister Elaine (Herb), sister-in-law, Connie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, families and friends. He was predeceased by his father Glen and brother Dave. Clayton has provided leadership to the farming community with a long-standing involvement in local, provincial and national organizations. He was born in Nokomis Hospital May 27, 1938. He started farming in 1957. The family farm has sizeable cropland, a cattle herd, raises Purebred Percherons and feeds draft horses for export. The Hobmans showed their horses all across Canada. Clayton represented the horse industry serving as president of the Canadian Percheron Association, Saskatchewan Horse Breeders Association, Saskatchewan Livestock Association and the Saskatchewan Riding Club. He also served as a committee member for Canadian Western Agribition and Regina Buffalo Days. For 20 years, Clayton was the Reeve of the R.M. of Wreford. He served on the board of Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Association for 12 years, three as president. He was also on the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame Board. Locally, he was involved in Lockwood 4-H Club, Nokomis United Church, Nokomis Credit Union, Nokomis Hospital Board, Long Lake School Division, Kinsmen, Nokomis Health Foundation, Lockwood Community Club and Nokomis Agricultural Society. Clayton's most recent accomplishment was being inducted into the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame. A funeral service was held at the Nokomis Recreational Centre on Tuesday, May 27th at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. George Holliday. Pallbearers were John Scruten, Donald Harding, Lome Lee, Ray Rintoul, Farnon Keeler and Tyler McGrath. Register attendants were Joyce Braun and Betty Hodge. Ushers were Harvey Braun and Lyle Hodge. Eulogy was by Audrey Hobman. Honorary pallbearers were all those who knew him. Pianist was Ruth Anne Richter and special music was by Ruth Anne Richter and Lois Mortenson. Interment was at Lockwood Cemetery.
HOBMAN - Isabel (nee Smith). The death of Mrs. Isabel Hobman, 91 years, of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan and formerly of Lockwood and Nokomis, occurred on Wednesday, December 17, 2008. Isabel is survived by her two children, Dennis (Kathie) Hobman and Elaine (Herb) Nadiger; and two daughters-in-law, Ann Hobman and Connie Hobman. She was predeceased by her husband, Glen Hobman; and two sons, Clayton Hobman and David Hobman. HOBMAN - Joseph Glencairn aged 82 years died Dec. 21, 1993 at Nokomis, Sask. Glen was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Marjarie (Jim) King, Frances Hobman; two brothers, Mick and Jack Hobman; and one sister-in-law Ruby Ritz. Glen is survived by his loving wife Isabel of Nokomis, Sask.; one daughter, Elaine (Herb) Nadiger, Raymore, Sask.; three sons, Clayton (Ann) Hobman, Nokomis, Dennis (Kathy) Hobman, Vermilion, Alta., David (Connie) Hobman, Surrey, B.C.; 13 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Glen is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Bob (Munda) Smith, Merner Ritz; one sister-in-law Bertha Hobman, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. HUGHES - Gladys June "Toots" (nee Fischer) passed away December 31, 2009 aged 78 years, after a brief battle with cancer. Left to mourn her life are husband of 60 years Hilton, daughters Judy (Ken) Dumanski, Lillie James, June (Jim) Reid, son Ernest (Cheryl); nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. HUMMASON - Bernice Kathleen Hummason of Lockwood, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2006 at the age of 74 years. Bernice was born on July 4, 1932 in Hanna, AB, to a farm couple. Due to the circumstances of the Dirty '30s, Bernice and her two-year old sister were put up for adoption in 1938 and they were not to meet again until Pat found her 45 years later in 1983! Bernice felt very fortunate to be adopted by Blanche and Jack Young of Edmonton and it was there that she started school. In the spring of 1940 they moved to Hudson Bay, SK, where Bernice took the rest of her schooling, graduating from Grade 12 in June 1950. Bernice then went to 'Normal School' in Saskatoon from which she graduated in 1951. Her first school was Aspen School, in the Etomami District near Hudson Bay, where she taught Grades 1 to 9. In 1953 she moved to Lockwood to become the primary grade teacher in the new school where she taught for four years. In 1955, Bernice married a local farmer, George Hummason, and they were to live the next 41 years on the farm his dad had homesteaded west of Lockwood. Bernice lived on the farm until the time of her passing. Bernice was predeceased by: her husband of 41 years. George; sister-in-law Fern McDougall; brother-in-law Rev. Vic Sangwine; niece-in-law Joan Hummason; niece Elsa Morelli and cousin Dan Coates. Bernice was a kind, thoughtful and loving person. Friends, family, church and community were very important to her. She was always busy organizing something, whether it be a meeting, church service, choir, community function or just an outing. Bernice lived each day to the fullest, always on the go. If you wanted to catch her at home it had to be before 9:00 a.m. or after 9:00 p.m. Bernice affected many lives and she will be missed by very many people. Bernice was loved. A funeral service was held November 21, 2006 in Nokomis United Church with Dale Gillman, Pastor of Christ Church Anglican Church, Nokomis, officiating. Honorary pallbearers were all who knew and loved her and pa1lbearers were Jason and Kris Dumanski, Bill Riach, Jack Williams, Ryan Morningstar and Cory Cole. Register attendants were June Hughes and Doreen Riach. Ushers were Bill Riach Sr. and Ray Hards. The organist was June Reid, with the Lockwood Community Choir in attendance. Interment followed in the Lockwood Cemetery.
HUMMASON - Fredrick Ross (May 14, 1920 - June 6, 2012). After a long and happy life, Fred passed away peacefully at his home in Ancaster, ON, at the age of 92. Beloved husband to Betty (predeceased), caring father of Lew (Pat), Pat, Frances (Gary) and the late Elsa (Jim). Caring grandfather to Rebecca, Christine, Brian (Barb), Natalie, Ken-dra, Jessica, Nola and great-grandfather to Xander, Logan, Marley Joan, Charlie, Kate and Eva. Fred was born in Lockwood, SK, on May 14, 1920. Fred graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1945. He went to Ontario to become Plant Engineer of Westinghouse Canada in Hamilton for 11 years. The next 17 years were spent as Plant Manager at Valley City Manufacturing. Upon his retirement from working for other people, he started Hummason Manufacturing which is still in operation 48 years later. Fred's hobbies were hunting, fishing and trap shooting. He enjoyed the hunting camp in Lockwood surrounded by his friends. He enjoyed their winters in Florida and travelled to many gun clubs there. In following Fred's wishes, cremation has taken place. There is to be no service. Fred and Betty's ashes, along with best friend Breeze will be laid to rest in Fred's home town of Lockwood at a later date
HUMMASON - George Lewis (1927 - 1996) age 69, was predeceased by his parents, Lew and Stella Hummason; an 8 year old sister, Blanche, April 1941; his twin sister, Fern McDougall, January 20, 1994; his brother-in-law, the Rev. Vic Sanguine, May 1995; and two infant nephews.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his loving wife of 41 years, Bernice; one brother, Fred (Bette) Hummason of Ancaster, Ontario; four sisters, Jean Sanguine of Oshawa, Ontario; Frances (John) Schoen of Saskatoon; Ada (Clive) Goodrich of Edmonton; and Helen (Lloyd) Flaig of Lethbridge; twenty nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. George had the distinction of living his whole life on the quarter section homesteaded by his Dad, Lew Hummason, in 1905. George loved farming and was working this year until the cancer took over on July 21, 1996. Funeral Service at Nokomis United Church on Wednesday, November 27th, 1996. HURLEY - Irene (nee Johnson). The death of Irene Hurley, age 86 years, of Lanigan and formerly of the Lockwood District, occurred peacefully at the Central Parkland Lodge on Saturday, September 14, 2013. A Memorial Reception was held on Friday, September 20 at 12:00 p.m. at the Nokomis Centennial Hall following a private family graveside service at Lockwood Cemetery. Irene was born July 29, 1927 in Saskatoon. She was the youngest of five children born to Thomas and Isabella Johnson. She attended Caswell School and Saskatoon Technical College. She worked for Saskatoon Motor Products and then the Federal Department of Agriculture as a stenographer for 13 years. Her co-worker and dear friend Gladys Reimer introduced her to John Hurley, a cattle and grain farmer from Lockwood. They fell in love and Irene and John were married in 1957. They resided at the family farm at Lockwood. Being a city girl, Irene had to adjust to the farm life. From herding cattle, to driving the grain truck, she adapted quite well. She loved gardening and especially loved growing her flowers. She was called on many times to make flower arrangements or corsages for various special events in the community. She loved making them and always said she should have opened a flower shop. She was quite involved in the Lockwood community and served as a secretary-treasurer for the Lockwood Recreation Board for many years. Prior to her employment with the village, she was secretary-treasurer for the Lockwood Rural Telephone and Community Club and also a member of the Prairie Rose Historical Club. Irene loved to dance and many times her and John would go with friends to dance the night away at Danceland in Watrous. She loved music - playing the piano and singing came natural to her, so she joined the Lockwood Choir. She was an excellent cook and baker. Everyone couldn't wait to taste her delicious homemade pies and cakes. Irene also loved traveling, though her and John's commitment to the farm held them back. They managed to take the family on summer trips. They would travel to Calgary and hook up with their dear friends Gladys and Don Reimer and both families would go to the Calgary Stampede for a fun-filled week. The Hurley family would also
drive out to the West Coast and enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains. She loved going to many sports days and watching the Lockwood Braves baseball team in which her son Allan played on. Mom's trip of a lifetime was when she was selected as the "lucky" school room mother and joined Isobel Meyers and the Grade 7 class from Drake Elementary School to go to Hall Beach N.W.T. on a class exchange program. Her and Isobel were quite entertained watching the Grade 7 class travel for the first time on the plane. The week in Hall Beach was a memorable one from going on caribou hunting trips, to making igloos which left a lasting memory. Irene was excited when Isobel arranged a class reunion years later.
Her pride and joy were her grandchildren from Saskatoon. She always looked forward in seeing and doing activities with them. She was predeceased by her husband John in 2000. Irene remained on the farm after John's passing and helped out as much as possible to keep the farm running. Unfortunately Irene had a fall in 2011 and became a resident at the Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan. She remained there until her passing. She will be sadly missed by her family, Brian; Maureen (Geoff) and grandchildren Shannon (Brandon) and Sheldon; Allan (Pam) and her children Ryan (Catrina) and Shauna (Kyla); sister-in-law, Gwen Roland of Nokomis, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the entire staff at Central Parkland Lodge who always made mom feel better with your smiles and jokes.
HURLEY - John. The death of John Hurley aged 72 years of Lockwood, SK., occurred at Royal University Hospital on Monday, July 3, 2000. JABS - Irene (nee Erdmann). It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Irene Jabs, aged 86 years, at Lanigan Integrated Hospital on Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Irene was born April 1, 1926 in Jaworowo, Poland to Michael and Emma Erdmann. She was the fourth of seven children. Irene grew up on a farm in Poland, then worked in Germany in 1945. She came to Canada in 1949, landing in Halifax. Irene married William Jabs, a farmer from Lockwood, in Regina on March 29, 1949. Their marriage was blessed with eight children. Irene worked hard on a mixed farm where there was no electricity until 1957. Irene and Bill moved to Lanigan in November 1997. Bill passed away in December 2000. They celebrated 51 years of marriage. Irene's pleasures included her garden, baking and cooking for her family, as well as visiting with family and friends. She played many games of checkers and Uno with her children and grandchildren. Irene leaves to mourn: her seven children, Robert (Deedy) of Lockwood, Garry (Susan) of Watrous, Iris Tkachuk of Ottawa, John (Darlene) of Lockwood, Denis (Linda) of Innisfail, Evelyn (Marty) Hayter of Watrous, Corrine (Michael) of Regina; 18 grandchildren, Tony, Braden, Reegan, Kyle, Ryan, Rikki, Tennille, Tracy, Mark, Adam, Loretta, Tyler, Shelby, Ch-antelle, Brendan, Elizabeth, Natalie, Heather; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Elfriede and Martha; brother, Barney; and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by: a son, Rolf in 1988; three sisters Olga, Alma and Natalia. Funeral service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lanigan, SK on February 9 conducted by Pastor Colette Baker. Honourary pallbearers were grandsons Tony and Tyler. Grandsons Braden, Reegan, Kyle, Ryan, Mark and Adam were pallbearers. Attending to the donation table were Loretta Jabs and Emily Wapple. Cecilia Paul, Vern Bergeson and Ursula Dac were register attendants. Pianist was Gudrun Blackport with special music provided by Ella Brait-enbach and Eva and Albert Shumaker. Private family graveside service of committal in Lockwood Cemetery preceeded the funeral.
JACQUES - Margaret Ellen (nee Bishop) Jacques of Calgary, AB, beloved wife of the late Mr. Gerald Jacques, passed away at the Agape Manor Hospice on June 6, 2001 at the age of 77 years. Margaret was born in 1924 in Lockwood, SK and spent her childhood years in Weyburn. She was a member of the RCAF (WD) during Word War II, and was a former president of the CWL, St. Bernard's Parish in Calgary. Margaret and her husband Gerry raised their three children in Calgary and moved to Olds, AB following Gerry's retirement. She was predeceased by Gerry in 1998. Margaret's memory is cherished by her daughter, Susan Ford of Olds, two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Sheila of Medicine Hat, AB and Frank and Boon of Thailand. She will be dearly missed by five grandchildren, Jacqueline Ford and Michael Jacques of Calgary, Darren Jacques of Medicine Hat, AB, and Pailin and Benjamin Jacques of Thailand. She leaves as well, her sister and brother-in-law Louise and Norman Warthe of Calgary, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Don and Nell Jacques of Pender Island, BC, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret's generously given love and guidance will be missed by all who knew her. Margaret turned her life around to God in 1980 and since that time her life has been in His hands one day at a time. Funeral mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Cathedral, Monday, June 11, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Raymond A. Lowing celebrant. The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Agape Manor Hospice for their care and support during Margaret's final days.

KABERNICK - Eleanor Lilla (nee Ediger). The death of Mrs. Eleanor Kabernick, 81 years, of Lockwood, Saskatchewan, occurred at Lanigan Hospital on Thursday, January 26, 2006 after a short illness. Eleanor was born on April 5,1924 to John and Emma (nee Stuckle) Ediger on the family farm west of Lockwood. She attended school in Lockwood and completed her grade 12 there. Eleanor attended two years at the University of Saskatchewan and then Normal School receiving her teaching certification in 1945. She then taught at Howat and Lockwood Schools. At the conclusion of World War II, Eleanor married Edward Kabernick on August 1, 1946 at Lockwood. They then moved to Calgary where Edward was stationed with the RCAF until his discharge. In November of 1946, they returned to the Lockwood area where they purchased their farm in 1950. Eleanor continued to live on the farm until her passing. An active member of her community, Eleanor was a member of the Lockwood Curling Club, 4-H and the United Church Women in her younger years. In addition, she was a long time member of the Usborne Women's Institute, and most recently the Between Friends Quilters' Guild. Community events such as the Lockwood Christmas Party, homecoming parties and the Terry Fox Run were near to her heart. Eleanor loved to travel and ventured with friends and family to many exotic locations including Australia, China, South Africa, Hong Kong, Russia, Germany, Spain and Portugal. When she wasn't travelling or helping a cause, she did have time to make beautiful quilts as well as many knitted and crocheted items that have been treasured by her family and friends. Eleanor will be sadly missed by all who knew her, and lovingly remembered by her three children and five grandchildren: John Kabernick, of Lockwood; Marjorie (Graham) Foster, of Calgary and son Kevin, of Vancouver; Deanna (Tom) Smith-Windsor, of Prince Albert and their children, Erin of Saskatoon, Laura of Whistler, Jillian and Kyle of Prince Albert. She is also survived by one half-brother Roland Ediger and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Edward Kabernick (1986) and her parents, John Ediger (1966) and Emma Ediger in (1989). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. from the Knox United Church in Lanigan, officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis. Others taking part in the service were: organist, Janet Potter; eulogist, Graham Foster; and memorial book attendants were Ruth Parker and Rae Kabernick. Honorary pallbearers were "Friends & Neighbors" of Eleanor's. Active pallbearers were Ryan Morningstar, Brian Hurley, Jim Isbister, Ron Ediger, Perry Fick and Brian Konschuh. KANE - Francis Louis was born January 12, 1923, on a farm near Lockwood. He was the third child of Leo and Alice Kane. Francis had three sisters and one brother: Leona, Lucille Mary and John. Francis grew up in the Lockwood district where his family farmed. He attended schools at Bannockburn, Thornfield, Floredale and Lockwood. At seventeen Francis was employee at a mink ranch near Forget. In 1941 he joined the navy. He received training in Regina and Comox B.C., then was stationed at Prince Rupert, B.C. serving in the Coastal Command. In 1944, while still stationed in Prince Rupert, Francis married Peggy McKinnon. Following the birth of Sandra Lynn in 1945, Francis was discharged, and they moved back to Saskatchewan, where they started farming North West of Nokomis. It was here that Laurel (1950), Greg (1957) and Leslie (1953) were born. In 1959 thay moved to the Guy Hummel farm. In 1981 Francis and Peggy moved into Nokomis, and Francis continued to farm with his son, Greg. Francis served with many organizations. The Nokomis Legion the Nokomis School Board, the P.F.R.A. Board, the R.M. of Wreford Council, and for 37 years on the local U.G.G. Board of Directors. Francis enjoyed working on the farm. His love of the land was reflected in the great care he took in his farming practices. Up until his passing, he was still talking about plans for next year's crop. Francis enjoyed local curling and hockey, and especially the many rodeos he and Peggy attended. He also took great joy in talking and joking with his grandchildren, and spun many a story of "The Old Days". Francis was predeceased by his parents Leo (1951) and Alice (1980). He is survived by his loving wife and partner Peggy, daughters Sandra (Dwane) Gibb, Laurel (Daryl) Holte, Leslie (Tom) Lyons, and son Greg (Iv) Kane; grandchildren Trevor and Tracy Gibb, LeAnne and Corey Holte, Pam Worobec, Michael, Jennifer and Janelle Kane, Shauna Low; great grandson Tyler Gibb; sisters Leona (Dwight) Buckmaster, Mary (Jack) Leland, Lucille Rogoskewy, brother John (Carlotta) Kane and many nieces and naphews. KANE - Helen Ruth (nee Brakefield) Kane Pfeifer (May 12, 1919 - May 29, 2012). The death of Helen Kane, aged 93 years, of Watrous occurred peacefully at Lanigan Hospital on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Helen was born on the farm near Venn to Sarah and Robert Brakefield on May 12, 1919. She had one sister and three brothers, all of whom predeceased her. In 1938 Helen married Leo Kane. They farmed near Lockwood where they raised their four children, Larry, Joan, Roger and Carol. They were a very loving happy couple who enjoyed their life together. Family was and always remained the central focus of Helen�s life. In later years after the children were grown Helen insisted she act as the "hired man" and actively farmed with her own tractor. Leo was against this at first, however grew to enjoy working in the same field with her. He bragged to others that he was the only farmer he knew who got to enjoy kissing his hired man at every coffee break! Leo and Helen held hands everywhere they went together and enjoyed dances and other community events. After Leo�s death in 1972 Helen moved to Lanigan where she worked at the hospital and other businesses. In 1978 Helen married George Pfeifer and moved to Saskatoon. In 1984 they moved to Watrous where she continued her life long passion for gardening, birds, quilting and garage sales. She remained in her own home after George�s death in 1995. Helen was a life long member of the United Church and was active in the UCW. She was always ready for a drive in the country and if it included a picnic lunch it was even better. In 2008 she moved to Jubilee Court where she enjoyed the company of the other tenants. Helen was predeceased by her husbands, George Pfeifer and Leo Kane and was deeply saddened at the death of her son Roger in 2007 and her grandson Greg in 2011. Left to celebrate Helen�s life are her children Larry (Yva), Joan, Carol (Lorne) and daughter-in-law Lil. She leaves seven surviving grandchildren Ed, Heather (Mario), Audrey, Ken (Chantelle), Debbie (Devon), Krista (Bruce), Les (Tammy), sixteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Helen will also be missed by many dear relatives and friends. KANE - Roger Allan Kane. October 4, 1943 - February 11, 2007. Roger passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at St. Paul's Hospital following a short battle with cancer at the age of 63. He is survived by his wife Lil of 39 years and their children Debbie (Devon) Neudorf and Ken (Chantelle) Kane. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Tanner, Brendan, Nicholas and Noah; mother, Helen Kane; brother, Larry (Yva) Kane; and sisters Joan Regehr, Carol (Lorne) Jones; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his father Leo in 1972. Roger was devoted to his family, especially his four grandsons who were the light of his life. He was an incredibly generous man who lived his life with integrity and honesty. He was a warm person who made friends easily, and was always a great support to others who were in need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The Funeral Service will be held at Lakeview Free Methodist Church (Highway 16 and Boychuk Drive, Saskatoon, SK) on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Brad Hamm. For family and friends the visitation will be on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Park Funeral Chapel (311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK). Interment will take place in the Garden of Christus at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
KEENAN - Mary Elizabeth (nee Birtles) Graham born April 5, 1917 at Lockwood, Sask., passed away Oct. 9, 2004 in Saskatoon, Sask. Mary Is lovingly remembered by: three daughters, Edith (Jack) McLean; Lois Dundas, and Lynda (Craig) Morlock; Two step-daughters, Elizabeth (RickAudet) Hall; and Barb (Doug) Andrews; four step-sons, Kenneth (Michelle) Keenan; James (Manuela) Keenan; Donald (Wendy) Keenan; and Mark Keenan; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Smith; and one brother Cecil (Buck) Birtles. She was predeceased by: her first husband, Harold Graham in 1982; her second husband, Thomas Keenan in 2003; four brothers, Ernest, William, Joseph, and George Birtles; one sister, Winnifred Keenan. Memorial Service at McLure United Church, Saskatoon on Oct. 12, 2004.
KINLOCH - William "Bill" Wotherspoon Kinloch was born on April 12, 1917 to George Boyd and Helen Patterson Kinloch (both of Scottish heritage) in Lockwood, SK. They resided in Lockwood until his mother's passing in 1918 from the flu epidemic. Little Bill, being only one and half years old, left for Pinkham, SK and resided there with his late mother's family until he was of school age. He then joined his father and older brother James in Saskatoon where his father was employed with the Saskatoon Police Department.
His father married Ruth Buchanan and she took care of the family as Bill's stepmother. They resided at 509 Avenue G South. Bill attended King George School, Princess Alexandra School and Bedford Road Collegiate. When he had completed his schooling, he worked in the mining industry in Northern Ontario from 1934 to 1937. When he returned home in 1937 he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway until enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy in late 1939. Bill served on the Skeena (destroyer) and carried out the majority of his service on the North Atlantic aboard the North Sidney. He served for the entire duration of the war. When he returned from the war, Bill married Edna Winnifred Bennett (Jones) in 1946 and they had one child, David Boyd in 1948. Bill was employed with C.P. Express for a considerable period of time until his retirement at sixty years of age. Bill's interests in life were reading, gardening, crib games, eating good food and enjoying the company of his many good friends. Most recently, he loved to watch his grandchild "the gaffer" Kalen William as he grew into a loving little toddler. As we give thanks to God for the life Bill shared with us, he leaves to mourn, his son, David (Bonnie) Kinloch and only grandson, Kalen William; step grandchildren, Jessie, Daniel and Jared; niece, Sandra (Walter) Burgess and family of Saskatoon, SK; niece, Heather (John) Webber and family of Sherwood Park, AB; niece, Carol (Ivor) Breeze and family of Newtown, Wales; special friend, Marion Seddon of Saskatoon, SK; as well as the many friends who cared for Bill so much. Special thanks to Dr. Vittala, the staff at St. Paul's Hospital, Central Haven Care Home and the caregivers with the Saskatoon Veterans' Home where he resided until his passing on Sunday, October 6, 2002.
KRAUS - Edith Margaret (nee Hughes) Kraus late of Rosetown was born at Cupar, SK. on August 17, 1914 and passed away at Rosetown, SK. on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her children Donald Kraus of Langham, SK., Carol (Gerald) Kingwell of Rosetown, William (Faye) Kraus of Edmonton and Alvin (Bonnie) Kraus of Saskatoon; sisters Erma (Don) Edwards of Lloydminster, Hilda (Forest) Pederson of Wynyard, SK.; brother Hilton (June) Hughes of Lockwood, SK.; step-brother Barcley (Beckie) Jones of Urbana, Illinois; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Tony Kraus, Doreen Kraus, Elsie Colley, Lilly Kraus and Marie Kraus all of Regina; twelve grandchildren; and thirteen greatgrandchildren. She was predeceased by her dear husband John Albert Kraus; parents Walter Ernest & Lillie Gertrude (nee Ward) Hughes; and by two brothers Melvin and Walter. LANGTEIGNE - Joseph Edward "Joe" Langteigne passed away at Nokomis, Saskatchewan, on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at the age of 97 years. Joe was born in 1909 in Caraquet, New Brunswick, where he grew up, moving to the West in 1928. Joe worked on the White Farms for four years at which time he met and married his wife, Nora, and took over her family farm west of Lockwood. They raised four children and enjoyed wedded bliss for 74 years. Joe was predeceased by his daughter Sheila and son-in-law Glen Lament. Joe and Nora were moved to Nokomis to reside in the winter of 1999. He is survived by his wife Nora, one son, Jerry (Jean) of Nokomis, and two daughters, Gladys (Don Reimer) of Edmonton and Frances (Larry Quintin) of Regina; 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild. He will be remembered affectionately by his many friends and neighbours. Joe was a hard-worker and never backed down from the problems that surfaced, but took them in hand and continued on. He loved life and enjoyed the winter when he could slow down and curl. Joe was known over the entire countryside through this sport and was always identified by his jolly laughter, which could be heard ringing out wherever he was. He took pride in his community and always participated in their activities A funeral service was held at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Nokomis on Saturday, August 26th and was officiated by Rev. LANGTEIGNE - Nora (nee Killeen). In loving memory of Nora Langteigne, aged 96 who passed away at Lanigan, Saskatchewan on Sunday, May 27, 2007. Nora was born in Ontario and when only weeks old her mother brought her back to their homestead west of Lockwood. After a few years, her dad (Michael Killeen) moved the farm site a half-mile west where Nora lived until she was 89. She was Usborne municipality's oldest resident to occupy a family homestead before moving to Nokomis in 1999. Nora met Joe when he came west to work at the White farm and they married in 1932 enjoying 74 years together. Her life was dedicated to farm life and family. She liked gardening but her special love was her lily bed, producing a maze of wonderful colours. Nora was a lifetime member of the Usborne Homemakers, (Women's Institute/W.I.) She began working with them at age sixteen joining later at age eighteen and was a valuable contributor to this organization. Nora participated in all community activities by donating her time, her work and her baking. She was known for her good sense of humour and her enjoyment of a good story. She will be sadly missed by her family; one son Jerry (Jean) of Nokomis; two daughters. Gladys (Don Reimer) of Edmonton and Frances (Larry Quintin) of Regina; 10 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and by her cousins, many friends and neighbours. LARSEN - Neila Margaret (nee Pomfret) Larsen completed her life's journey on September 11, 2006 after a brave battle with cancer. Neila was born on the family farm near Lockwood, SK, on October 23, 1925 and was the fifth child of Harry and Clara Pomfret. Neila married John Larsen and spent most of her married life in Qualicum and Parksville, BC. They owned and operated the Wagon Wheels Service Station & Restaurant where she became famous for her homemade pies. Neila was also an Avon representative for over 21 years and enjoyed her garden, backyard and fruit trees. John passed away in 1973. Neila is survived by her brother Lenard Pomfret of Wynyard, SK, sister Leone Paris of Vernon, BC, sister Lila and Irvin McChesney of Kelvington, SK, sister Lana and Bill Hulgaard of Langley, BC and sister-in-law Hazel Pomfret of Nokomis, SK. Neila was predeceased by her brothers James and Ben of Nokomis, SK, sister-in-law Edith Pomfret of Wynyard, SK, and brother-in-law Fred Paris of Vernon, BC. Neila will always be remembered as a person who knew the meaning of life and fellowship with her many island friends. She will be forever remembered and dearly loved by her family and many friends. A celebration of life service was held on September 15, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Henderson's Funeral Home in Langley, BC. Officiating clergy were Mr. W. Burkinshaw and Judy Scheller. LEEDHOLM - Leona (nee Graff). It is with great sadness, but gentle relief that we announce the passing of our loved one Leona Leedholm at 78 years of age. Surrounded by her family she went to be with her Lord and Savoir on December 10, 2004. Leona was born April 17, 1926 on their family farm near Lockwood, Sask. and lived there until 1951. She then attended Canadian Nazarene College in Red Deer, after earning her diploma in Christian Education she returned to the family farm for a short time before moving to Lougheed. It was in Lougheed that she met her life long partner Arthur Leedholm and they were married in 1953. Leona was particularly well known for her gift of music, which she often shared, by singing gospel music in solos, duets, trios and quartets. Leona has long been known for her unselfish, giving personality and gift of hospitality. The doors of her home were always open to others. Leona's love for her Lord was always so apparent in her kind, gentle, caring ways and this will leave an imprint on all who had the opportunity to know her. She will be missed and forever remembered by her loving family, husband Arthur, sons Dwayne (Jane) of Lougheed, Jerry of Blackfalds, daughters Carolyn (Bryan) Anderson and Brenda (Randy) Cox of Red Deer, grandchildren, Jennifer (Barry) Klassen, Jeff (Stacey) Leedholm, Allison, Amanda, Rebecca Leedholm, Chris Leedholm, Curtis Scott, Mike (Tasha) Anderson, Cara-Leigh (Trevor) Cox, 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. LYNCH - Donald Shakespeare passed away peacefully on May 16, 2008 at the age of 90. A Celebration of Don's life will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Jansen SK. Don was predeceased by his wife Marion, sisters: Faye, Alice, and Mary; brothers: Kenneth and Hayden. He is survived by children: Brian (Lynne), Bob (Leslie), Terry (Peggy) and Shelley (Stan) Hein; grandchildren: James (Shannon), Richard (Deanna), Sean, Kevin, Tyler, Dustin, Stephanie, Brendan, Chelsey, Jackson, Fraser, and great grandchildren Seth, Jebb, and Maya; sisters: Jean Olsen and Betty Manyk; brother, Jack; sister-in-law Norma (Ken) Romuld; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Don, a farmer for many years, was an enthusiastic community member, coached youth hockey, loved to entertain with his harmonica and was proud of his Navy service. He was the last surviving member of the Lockwood Legion. He loved the outdoors, particularly the birds and will be forever remembered for his smile, his laugh and his love of visiting with others.
LYNCH - Marion Irene (nee Bell) September 23, 1924 - December 29, 1999. Another prairie flower will grace our landscape no more. Her memory will be cherished by her husband and friend of 52 years, Don; children Brian (Lynne), Bob (Leslie), Terry (Peggy); daughter Shelley (Stan) Hein; Grand children James and Richard; Sean and Kevin; Tyler, Dustin and Stephanie; Brendan, Chelsey, Jackson and Fraser. MACKENZIE - Florence Catherine Elizabeth (nee Filgas) was born October 25, 1930 to John and Julianna Filgas at Purple Springs, Alberta. She attended school with her sisters, Eleanor and Elsie. She attended high school in Taber, Alberta. Florence married Donald MacKenzie and together they farmed near Lockwood where they raised their family of one daughter Constance and three sons Robin, Stuart and Cameron. After her husband�s passing in 1991, Florence remained on the farm. After a brief illness, she passed away on Friday December 6, 2013 at St. Paul�s Hospital in Saskatoon. She is survived by her daughter Constance MacKenzie of Grenfell and her son Andrew (Christine) MacKenzie and their children Zoey and Colin of Saskatoon ; son Robin (Glenys) MacKenzie of Regina and their children Bryna (Scott) Hansen of Regina and Derek of Red Deer ; son Stuart (Donna) MacKenzie of Calgary and their son Brice ; son Cameron MacKenzie of Calgary; her sister Elsie (Charlie) Bonk of Calgary; and numerous nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by her husband Donald, parents John and Julianna Filgas, brother Edward, sisters Evelyn and Eleanor and niece Shirley Bonk. MAGNES - Russell Arthur. The death of Russell Arthur Magnes, aged 91 years, occurred at Manitou Lodge, Watrous on Saturday December 13, 2008. Russell was born September 1, 1917 near Lockwood, SK to Edwin and Hanna Magnes (nee Oden) the first of four sons and one daughter. Russ farmed in the Lockwood District until 1982. In his retirement he loved to spend time meeting new people at the Manitou Springs Mineral Spa at Manitou Beach. He also had a love for dancing, especially at Danceland. Russell was predeceased by his wife, Olga (nee Deis); his parents; two brothers and one sister. Russell is survived by one brother, Lloyd Magnes of Watrous; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation. A private family interment in the Watrous Cemetery will take place at a later date.
MEIKLE - Lester James. Funeral service for Lester James Meikle was held in Lockwood United Church on June 2, with Rev. R. Swann officiating. Burial was in Lockwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dick Genge, Ralph Blackport, Joe Birtles, Gerry Zealand, Nick Dumanski and Murray Ruedig. Born at Lockwood on May 3rd, 1909, Lester passed away in the Watrous hospital on June 19, after a lengthy illness. Left to mourn are his wife Edna, two sons, Earl and Jim, one daughter Lois, all at home; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Murray Montague (Peggy) of Saskatoon, and Mrs. Gordon Howat (Betty Ann) of Lockwood; four sisters, Mrs. Bill Howat (Dorothy) of Edmonton, Mrs. Roy Potter (Lottie) of Nokomis, Mrs. Fred Cook (Elsie) of Rivers, Man., Mrs. Bert Cavalier (Minne), Surrey. B.C.; one brother, Bruce Meikle, Saskatoon; also five grandchildren.
MEISSNER - Agatha (nee Hilderman) Meissner passed away at Saskatoon, SK, on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at the age of 82. Agatha was born to Adam and Susan Hilderman on February 16,1924 on their farm in the Duval district. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Duval on May 4, 1924. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church as well. Her faith in our Lord Jesus has always been most important and often she reminded her family to "pray without ceasing". Agatha grew up in the Duval/Govan district and shared many stories about learning the catechism at German summer school, her days at Arlington Beach school and growing up with her brothers and sisters. She also shared stories of when she left home at the age of 14 to "work out" to help her family. She worked for neighbors at first, then got a job in Regina working for the Dr. May family. When that ended, she moved to Watrous and at Manitou Beach met the love of her life, Victor Meissner. Her independent streak had her moving back to Regina to join her sister working at Luther College before her marriage to Vic on June 20, 1948. Agatha's life in Lockwood focused on her husband and daughter and family members, the farm and her friends. She always had a garden and lots of flowers. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She took great pride in keeping her home comfortable for family and visitors. No one ever left her house without having something to eat first. She had a great sense of humor, was very generous and loving. Agatha's twinkling blue eyes, her always ready smile and her sunny disposition will be missed greatly. Agatha had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren. Jon will miss dropping in to chat with Grandma about earlier days and Grandpa. Kristi will miss her "beautiful" Grandma so much. Gloria will miss her best friend, the car rides, the treats they snuck and so many more things. Agatha was predeceased by: her husband Victor, son Randy, her parents Adam and Susan Hilderman and 12 siblings. Agatha leaves to mourn: her daughter Gloria Jones; grandson Jonathon (Jennifer); granddaugher Kristi; step-granddaughters, Jennifer (Todd) Ehman and Tammy (Chris) Jones-Bonk and their families; brother Emil Hilderman; brother-in-law Bert (Frieda) Meissner; and sisters-in-law, Elsie (Erwin) Reddekopp and Irene Dyzerk and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanigan, Saskatchewan on Saturday, December 23rd at 1:00 p.m. and it was officiated by Pastor Harley Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were all who were present. Pallbearers were Garth Meissner, Ken Dzeryk, Marvin Cummingham, Larry Cummingham, Glen Dzeryk and Lorne Kessler. Organist was Janice Attfield. MEISSNER - Berthold David (Bert) February 19, 1925 - September 2, 2016, aged 91 years, formerly of Lockwood, SK passed away suddenly at his home in Luther Heights Senior Residence, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Friday, September 2, 2016. A Memorial Service will take place in Trinity Lutheran Church, Lanigan, SK on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Lockwood Cemetery.
MEYER - William "Willie" (December 24, 1929 - May 1, 2017) was born to Frederick and Maria (nee Isaac) Meyer at their home in Lockwood, SK. He took his schooling in Lockwood, completing Grade 10 before farming with his father. After his father�s death in 1948, Willie worked the farm with his half-brother John. When he reached the age of 21, Willie continued the farming operation in partnership with John, until John retired in 1970. In 1954, Willie married the local primary school teacher, Isobel Conley, and they moved out of town to live on the farm. They both continued with their careers until the spring of 1990, when they sold the farm and moved to Humboldt, Isobel�s birthplace. Willie and Isobel enjoyed their retirement life by curling, fishing, playing cards, golfing, spending time at their cottage at Turtle Lake and, of course, their favorite activity � dancing. They also made trips to meet relatives and tour the birthplaces of Isobel�s parents. Willie lost Isobel to cancer on September 30, 2001. He remained in Humboldt for almost four years before moving to Saskatoon. He continued with his love of dancing and attended polka fests around the country. As well, visiting on coffee row at Market Mall, and trying his luck at the Dunes Casino helped fill his days. In January of 2016, Willie suffered a fall which resulted in a hip replacement. He was unable to return to his apartment and took up residence at the Luther Special Care Home where he resided until his passing. Willie was a community-minded individual, always willing to help people or assist on various projects. He served as a municipal councillor for six years, was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, an original share holder at the Lanigan Poundmaker Feed Lot, belonged to local golf and curling clubs, and was a season ticket holder of the Humboldt Broncos Hockey Team. William is survived by his brother-in-law, Dickson; and by many nieces and nephews. Although Willie and Isobel didn�t have any children of their own, they considered Jim Kidd and Murray Scott to be their family. Jim was a constant visitor on weekends and holidays, and Murray lived with them from his teen years on. He was predeceased by his wife, Isobel (nee Conley) Meyer; parents, Fred and Maria (nee Isaac) Meyer; four half-brothers: George, Abram, Frank, and John; and by two half-sisters: Mary, and Maria (in infancy).
MITCHELL - Lorne. The family of Lorne (Shorty) Mitchell was saddened by his sudden death on July 21st, 2003. Lorne was the youngest of five children. He attended public and high school in his hometown of Lockwood, SK. Lorne was predeceased by his parents William and Chrystabel, sister Marian Read, brother Bob and brother in law Jack McLean. He is survived by his sisters Florence (Ralph) Allen of Eureka, California, and Ethel McLean of Pilot Mound, Manitoba, sister in law Pat Mitchell of Thompson Lake, SK, brother in law Harold Read of Strasbourg, SK, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces and many, many friends. Lorne was a long time worker and member of Broadway United Church in Regina and worked at Ipsco until his retirement. Lorne was the Saskatchewan Roughriders "biggest fan". A memorial service and celebration of Lorne's life will be held at a later date at the Broadway United Church in Regina.
MORNINGSTAR - Clyden Ross. Ross was born on the family farm west of Lockwood on February 2, 1915, the only child of Helen (Hummason) and Clyden Morningstar. He was 15 years old when his father passed away. At that time he quit school to do the farming and was still farming this summer when he became ill. Ross and Verna Ellis were married in Lanigan on October 5, 1938. Ross was very community-minded, not only Lockwood but surrounding areas as well. In the mid thirties he belonged to the Lockwood Grain Club with other young farmers; he was an assistant leader of the 4-H Club; a founding member of Lockwood Co-op, committee man for Sask. Wheat Pool, board member of Lockwood and Nokomis United Churches; served the RM of Usborne for 15 years, six years as reeve; member of the Nokomis Hospital Board for 22 years, 6 years as chairman; a board member of Co-op Implements. He was one of the original directors of Poundmaker Feeders; a member of the district A.D.D. Board and worked with the Provincial Counseling and Assistance for Farmers program. Ross enjoyed reading, curling, fishing and was an ardent fan of baseball and hockey (especially when his grandsons were playing). He liked to travel and for several winters, he and Verna spent a few weeks in Kansas, Arizona, California and British Columbia. He especially enjoyed an Agricultural tour to New Zealand and Australia. Ross took great pride in his farm. Soil salinity and erosion were always a major concern to him and he was continuously modifying his equipment and trying new agronomic methods to alleviate the problems. Livestock, especially Hereford cattle, were very important to him also. He'd often say she's a good old hereford. He had a way with animals and was called on numerous occasions by neighbours to do basic veterinary work. Working with wood and iron was relaxation for him and he spent many winter hours in the shop making small pieces of equipment, bird houses and gadgets that came in handy around the farm. Ross was very proud of his family and took great interest in their activities. He was especially pleased when they all took up farming. Ross is survived by his wife Verna of 57 years, sons Ron (Ruth), Larry (Donna) and daughter Margaret (Gerald) Sundquist; grandchildren Dallas, Shannon and Debra Morningstar; Cheryl (Ernest) Hughes, Randy Morningstar, Lori (Vern ) Bexson and Ryan Morningstar; Brad and Monty Sundquist; great grandchildren Josh and Jody Hughes; Ashley and Morgan Bexson; sisters-in-law Margaret (Richard) Coleman; Donelda Hendry; Connie (Don) St. Onge; Mary Ellis; brother-in-law Mac Ellis, several cousins nieces and nephews and an aunt Gladys Moore. MORNINGSTAR - Verna Mary (nee Ellis) Morningstar passed away on Monday, August 30th, 1999 in Edmonton, Alberta. Veerna was predeceased by her husband Ross, her parents: Ernest and Anna Ellis, brothers: Ernest Ellis, Bill Ellis, and Alex Ellis, sister-in-law Cathy Ellis and brother-in-law Ken Hendry. Vema is survived by two sons, Ron (Ruth), Larry (Donna), and daughter, Margaret (Gerald) Sundquist; grandchildren Dallas Momingstar, Shannon (Scott) Clark and Debra Herman ; Cheryl (Ernest) Hughes, Randy Morningstar, Lori (Vern) Bexson, Ryan Morningstar; Brad (Gaylene) Sundquist, Monty (Monique) Sundquist; great grandchildren Josh and Jody Hughes; Ashely, Morgan and Lane Bexson; and Paige Sundquist. MUNBY - Matthew Richard Munby was born on November 10, 1981 in Saskatoon, SK, and he passed away on January 12, 2007 in Nokomis, SK, at the age of 25. Matthew was the son of Gerald and Candice, grandson of Shirley Franklin and Aussie Munby and nephew of Anne, Paul and Sara. He was a great son and brother to Dale. He left behind his son Carter who he loved very much. His friends meant everything to him and the times he had with them will never be forgotten. His hobbies included many things from artwork to collecting pictures of semis. Matthew is survived by his family and friends and will be greatly missed and always in our hearts forever. We'll always remember his laugh and sense of humour and he put a smile on our faces every chance that he could. A memorial service was held at Nokomis United Church, Nokomis, SK, on Wednesday, January 17th at 2:00 p.m. and it was officiated by Pastor John Dueck.

NADIGER - Arthur was born May 14, 1896, called home to be with the Lord November 9, 1987. Arthur was born at Durham, Ontario to Elizabeth Edmonds and John Nadiger. The family came to Saskatchewan in 1907, settling in the Haliburton district. Arthur attended school at Lockwood and Haliburton. He served for a short time in the Army during World War I. After the war, he settled on the farm in the Haliburton district where he resided until his passing. Arthur was secretary of the Haliburton School District for over twenty-five years. He was also a trustee lor several years and a janitor for a short time. Arthur was active in the church held at Haliburton School. He was superintendent of the Sunday School for a time and taught a boy's class in the Sunday School for many years. Arthur was also one of the original signers when the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool was formed. Arthur cooked on the cookcars in the days of the steam threshers. Arthur married Olive Leigh Banks July 3, 1926.
He is survived by two daughters, Helen Barron of Calgary and Dorothy Pomfret of Lockwood; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Olive, in 1966; brothers Jack and Joe; sisters Gertie, Lily and Edith and son-in-law, Mack Barron. Arthur will be remembered for his love of animals, the wonderful gardens he grew and his sense of generosity and community spirit. Funeral Service at Nokomis United Church on November 12th, 1987. NADIGER - Byng Ethel (nee Redman) September 5, 1898 - April 19, 1990. Byng, was born at Echo Bay, Ontario, the second of six children of Walter and Mary Ann Redman. She attended a teacher-training institution in North Bay, Ontario, and she came west to Strwart Valley, Sask., later she came to teach at Haliburton School at Lockwood, Sk. where she met her future husband, Joe Nediger. They were married at Lanigan, Sk. on Jan. 11, 1923. Byng and Joe farmed until they moved into the village of lockwood in 1963. Joe and Byng entered Behrns Home Care in Regina in 1980. Joe passed away in 1983. Byng suffered a stroke on Jan.1, 1989 and was a hospital patient and nursing home resident at the Pasqua Hospital until she passed away peacefully on April 19, 1990. Byng's greatest loves were her family and friends, her home and garden. She loved flowers and always had a large beautiful garden. She was instrumental in starting a Sunday School in the Haliburton district when her children were small. She helped conduct a sewing class and believed education and learning were very important for everybody. Byng will be missed by those who love and survive her; her two sons; Walter (Pinky) of Calgary, Herb (Elaine) on the home farm at Lockwood; three daughters; Beth (Wilfred) Doidge at Semans; Aline Ritz, in the post office at Lockwood; and Cinnie (Bill) Ellis of Regina. She also leaves to mourn 18 grandchildren and 20 greatgrandchildren; one brother Bob Redman at Sault Ste Marie, Ont.; one brother-in-law, Ernie Nadiger at The Pas, Man; and many neices, nephews, and friends. NADIGER - Olive Leigh (nee Banks). Funeral services for the late Mrs. Arthur Nadiger, Lockwood, were held in the Lockwood United Church on Sunday, Sept. 4th, conducted by Rev. R. W. Swan of Nokomis. Interment was in Lockwood cemetery with McDougall's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. She passed away in the Ragina General Hospital on Friday, Sept. 2nd, 1966 at the age of sixty nine years and four days. Mrs. Nadiger, nee Olive Leigh Banks, was born on August 29, 1887 at Clementsport, N.S. She came to Saskatchewan in 1925. In 1926 she married Arthur Nadiger of the Haliburton District, East of Lockwood, where she resided on their farm until she was hospitalized in July.
Left to mourn her passing are her husband Arthur, two daughters, Mrs. Mack Barron (Helen) of Calgary and Mrs. Bert Pomfret (Dorothy) of Lockwood, three grandsons and four granddaughters. Also surviving are seven sisters, Mrs. Walter Wyre (Nina), Plymouth, N.H., Mrs. Dupruis (Alice), New Castle, N.B., Mrs. Everett Pyne (Flo), Clementsvale, N.S., Mrs. Chipman Dukeshire (Mary), Cape Breton, N.S., Mrs. Charles Banks (Mildred), Kingston, N.S., Mrs. Charles Freeman (Harriet), Kennebunk, Maine, Mrs. Aubrey Durling (Lennie), Clementsport, N.S. and one brother, Mr. Clifford Banks, Tisiale, Sask. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother. The pallbearers were Ben Pomfret, Roy Wentz, Bill Robson, Bill Howat, Abe Eichorst and Don Lynch. Attending the funeral from out of town were friends and relatives from Regina, Kandahar, Wynyard, Maryfield, Saskatoon, Nipawin, Leroy, Sinnett, Tisdale, Carragana, Arborfield, Armly, Ridgedale, Chelan, Somme, Semans and Nokomis, Sask.; La Pas, Man., Calgary and Edmonton, Alta. The many floral tributes testified to the high esteem in which Mrs. Nadiger was held in the community. Her kindness and generosity will always be remembered by all who knew her.
NELSON - Amy Eleanor (nee Magnes) was born March 21, 1913 in Teien Township, Minnesota, USA and went to be with her Lord and Saviour February 21, 2006. She was predeceased by husband Bjorn (WWII), parents Oscar and Emma Magnes, brothers Harold (WWII) and Gordon, sisters Helen and Alice. Left to lovingly remember her are daughters Betty (Glen), and Dee; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; brothers, Ken (Kay), Raymond (Alice); nieces and nephews. Amy grew up on her fathers homestead, Floradale District of Lockwood. After graduating from Normal School she taught in country schools during the 1930's, and years later, Kindergarten in Saskatoon. After losing her husband (WWII) she brought up her children in Lockwood. Mom will be always remembered for her rollicking, ragtime piano playing at country school dances, in church for 40+ years, as an accompanist, piano teacher and at Seniors residences. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Louise Street Community Church, 3042 Louise St. with Rev. B. Tauber officiating.
NELSON - Mae (nee Wright) Nelson, aged 87 years, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2006 at Prince Albert, SK. Mae was born May 8, 1919 at Lostock Graham, England, to Mae and Harold Wright. She came to Canada in 1927 and settled in Poplar Park, SK, when she was eight years old and later moved to Venn at the age of 12 years. Mae joined the Air Force in 1940 at the age of 21 years. On October 22, 1944 Mae married Ed Nelson. They farmed for many years in the Venn district and surrounding area. Mae started playing softball at the age of 12 and continued playing until the age of 78 years. She was known as one of the greatest pitchers in the area. She never once missed a season. It was one of the greatest joys to watch Mae play ball. Wherever Mae went her dogs were close by. They were a big part of her life. She was predeceased by her parents, Mae and Harold, brother Harry and sister Nora. Mae is survived by her loving husband Ed of 62 years, brother John of Oliver, BC, sisters-in-law Ellen and Edna of Watrous, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service to follow at a later date.
NOBE - Beverley Ann (nee Ruedig). It is with saddened hearts that Bev's family announces her passing on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the age of 63. She was predeceased by her parents Murray & Betty Ruedig. Left to cherish Bev's memory are her children Kourtney (Dave), Krista (Neal) and Toriann (Bill); her little sweet peas Shaelyann, Koral & Karstyn; sister and best friend Irma, brother Ross (Janice); and nephews & nieces Scott (Tammy), Amber (Jonathan), Kayd & Kohen. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Knox Metropolitan United Church, 2340 Victoria Ave., Regina, SK.

OBLANDER - Lydia (Lilly, Lil) (nee Meissner) Oblander was born near Lockwood on August 1, 1914, the fourth of five children of Alexander Sr. and Eva (Becker) Meissner. Lydia attended school in Lockwood and along with her sisters, took music lessons learning to play piano, violin and mandolin. She worked alongside her parents on their farm, acquiring all the necessary homemaking skills, as did all young women of the day. Lydia at times worked for families in the community. Lydia married Emanuel Oblander on April 22, 1946, and to this union five children were born: Margaret, Christine, Linda, Maybelle and Paul. The family lived and worked in several communities over the years including: Cymric, Regina, Lockwood, Govan and back to Regina. During their time in Lockwood, in addition to raising their young family, Lydia owned and operated Lil's Grill for several years. On the family's return to Regina, she was employed at Frank's Cafe, Luther College/University of Regina cafeteria, and on the housekeeping staff at both Martin Luther Nursing Home and Grey Nun's Hospital. It was during this time that Emanuel passed away on April 10, 1973. Lydia soon after retired from the hospital to become cook/dishwasher at Climax Hotel to help Maybelle and Dave who owned it at the time. Truly retiring after that, Lydia cherished the freedom she and her companion dog 'Coco' had to spend time with her grandchildren, hosting them often in her home and also making many trips to their homes.Along the way she somehow found time to knit afghans and assorted clothing items and crochet doilies for all of her children and grandchildren. She was in great demand after reviving her tatting skills, with the whole family receiving special gifts of that unique talent. For a couple of years, she maintained an informal business filling orders for her tatting from her 'eye on the world' seniors apartment on the 16th floor of the Trianon Tower, where she also knitted with fellow residents producing childrens toques, scarves, mitts and socks for the Salvation Army. When her memory began to fail her and living alone was no longer an option, Lydia moved into Shady Pines Personal Care Home where she resided for seven years, followed by a period of hospitalization to heal a hip fracture. The level of care required on discharge necessitated her placement in long term care, and Lydia spent the last year of her life in the nurturing environment of Last Mountain Pioneer Home at Strasbourg. Lydia is survived by her children Margaret (Victor) Weiss of Jansen, Melanie (John) MacGregor of Saskatoon and Jeremy Weiss (Paula Kobelski) of Saskatoon; Christine (Jim) Campbell of Regina and Jeff (Carrie) Campbell of Calgary; Linda Oblander of Regina, Scott Oblander of Regina, Stacy Oblander of Carlyle, Steven (Patricia) Oblander of Moose Jaw and Michael Oblander of Carlyle; Maybelle (Dave) Kreklewich of Calgary, Carmel (Clinton) Cullen of Swan River, Dan Kreklewich (Lucy Kinnear) of Portage la Prairie; and Paul (Tina) Oblander, Matthew Oblander and Laura Oblander, all of Calgary; greatgrandchildren Kathryn and Brianna Cullen and Jake Oblander; and step-greatgrandchildren Kyla and Tyler. Lydia is also survived by her sister Bertha Assman of Lanigan; and sisters-in-law Hertha Meissner of Lloydminster and Pauline Rumpel and Martha Oblander, both of Regina; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Lydia was predeceased by her husband Emanuel, parents Alexander Sr. and Eva (Becker) Meissner; brothers Alexander Jr. and Edward Meissner; sister Mary Redlich; brothers-in-law Robert Redlich and John Assman; nephews Harold and Clarence Redlich; parents-in-law Fred and Anna (Busch) Oblander; brothers-in-law Fred Oblander, Bob Rumpel, Dave Oblander, Henry Hilderman, Bill Lucas, Alex Fries and Alex Oblander; sisters-in-law Hilda Oblander, Mary Fries, Lydia (Hilderman) Lucas and Ruffina Oblander.
A Celebration of Life service for Lydia was held on Monday, August 28, 2006, at Regina Funeral Home, Highway #1 East, Regina, with Rev. Carla Blakley officiating. Lydia's ashes were interred next to Emanuel at Regina Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

PENNER - Edna Lorraine (nee Ewert) Penner passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 1, 2005. She was born on September 4, 1911 near Lockwood, SK, the sixth child of 15 born to Edward and Katherine Ewert. When she was eight years old the family moved to Fairview Farm near Drake. Edna was educated at Kansas School and the German English Academy in Rosthern where she met Rudy Penner, whom she married in 1934. They lived in Hague, Greendale, BC and Langham before moving to Saskatoon in 1956. Rudy taught at City Park Collegiate for many years and Edna devoted her life to her home, her church, her extended family and volunteering in the community. In the late 60's she and Rudy spent a wonderful sabbatical year travelling in the USA and Europe and after Rudy's retirement they spent many enjoyable winters in Hawaii. In 1989, shortly before Rudy's death they moved from their house on McDermid Crescent to Bethany Manor. She was predeceased by her parents, eight brothers, three sisters, her husband; her daughter, Marguerite Davey; and sons-in-law, Wayne Wilson and "Sammy " Samson. She is survived by her daughter, Agnes Samson; grandsons, Stacy (Alice) Wilson and Scott (Cory) Wilson; greatgranddaughters, Breanne, Devon, Bailey and Maya; brothers, Ed (Ethna) Ewert of Newcastle, ON, Orin (Tina) Ewert of Drake and Melvin (Irene) Ewert of Calgary; sisters-inlaw, Agnes, Lottie and Margaret Ewert of Drake, Louise (Al) Friesen of Saskatoon and Gene Ewert of Claremont, CA; as well as many nephews and nieces. The family is grateful to the Palliative Care Team and the staff of 6300 at City Hospital for their kindness in Edna's last days. A Funeral Service will be held at Nutana Park Mennonite Church at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2005 with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
PLASTER - Cyril Frank. It is with sadness the family announces that following a courageous and dignified journey the death of Cyril Frank Plaster occurred peacefully on January 16th, 2007 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Cyril led a very full and active life and is lovingly remembered by his wife Lillian (Sadler) having celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in June 2006, and his three children and their families; daughter Joan (Eugene) Frei and children Brenda Armstrong (Angie), Brad, Bronya and Brandy; daughter Fay (Jim) Puckett and children Lisa (Bill) Thibodeau and Laura (Norman) Shoemaker; son Gerald (Val) Plaster and children Carrie (Jason) Walker, Danny Plaster, Tammy (Jason) Blancher and Byron (Carrie) Blancher and great grandchildren Andrew and Tyler Armstrong, Neil and Megan Shoemaker, Zoie Plaster, and Max and Cyrus Blancher; as well as four sisters Ida Blair, Victoria Decker, Grace Strong and Connie (Bob) Nelson and many nieces, nephews and their families. Cyril was predeceased by his parents Robert and Kate Plaster, two brothers Robert (Bert) and Dr. Ernest (Bun) Plaster, sister Ella Kernick and all of his in-laws in the Sadler family. Cyril was born in Lockwood, SK on July 13th 1915. He took his early schooling at Kneller School and made a life long career of farming in the Drake-Lockwood area until his retirement and relocation to Saskatoon in 1979. Cyril loved farming and was very progressive in his farming practices. His love of horticulture continued with gardening in the city and supplying the neighbourhood with wonderful huge, red, ripe tomatoes and driving the `country crop tour' every Sunday afternoon. He was committed to his community, serving as Councilor in the RM of Prairie Rose, Steward and Treasurer of the Drake United Church and very actively supported the Kneller School. Cyril was also an avid sportsman playing baseball with the Lockwood Braves until age 47. He curled competitively in local and regional bonspiels and coached his son's hockey and baseball teams for several years. Cyril relished social activities, spending time with family and friends, playing cards, making time for tea and dancing . He took up golf in retirement and was last on the Wildwood course in this past September. He was an accomplished and courageous man, loving and generous who gave of himself in every endeavor. A Memorial Service and reception in celebration of Cyril's life will be led by Rev. Ron McConnell on Friday February 16th, 2007 at 2:00 pm at McClure United Church in Saskatoon.
PLASTER - Evelyn Ella (nee Plaster) Kernick passed away peacefully at home in Calgary Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at the age of 73 years. Evelyn is survived by her daughter Debbie (Rob) Kernick of Vancouver and her sons, Frank (Lori) Kernick of Canmore, and Brian (Tully) Kernick of Sydney, Australia, as well as three grandchildren Kayla, Aimee and Kristopher Kernick of Canmore. Predeceased by her parents and two older brothers, Evelyn is also survived by one brother, Cyril and four sisters, Ida, Vic, Grace and Connie. Evelyn was born the youngest of eight children on a farm between Lockwood and Drake, Saskatchewan. She graduated in 1950 from the School of Nursing in Regina. During her lifetime Evelyn worked as a nurse and as a Stewardess. She was Head Nurse in Banff at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. She lived in Canmore where she married and had her family. For the past 15 years, Evelyn has lived in Calgary. Most recently she lived with Doreen Pepper and her son Chris where she enjoyed being a special part of their family. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 15, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. in the Ralph Connor Memorial United Church, Canmore with interment to follow in the Canmore Cemetery.

POMFRET - Lenard was born at Lockwood, Saskatchewan on March 25, 1921 to Harry and Clara Pomfret. He was the second eldest of seven children. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Lockwood. He took his schooling at Howatt. Lenard left home at an early age to work. In 1943 he married Edith (Currie) Gliddon and they made their home at Griffin, Saskatchewan. While there, a daughter Margaret-Ann was born. In the fall of 1943, they moved back to Kandahar to farm in the Product district. In the next five years, two sons were born, Marvin (Bud) and Bert. In 1954, Lenard purchased a home from long time friend and neighbour, Art Degenstein. Lenard was an active person in the community and was always helping someone. Sometimes he left his work to help someone in need. He was a very gentle, kind and loveable man. A friend to all. He passed away peacefully at Wynyard Hospital with family by his side on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at age 86 years. The funeral service was held April 2, 2007 at Wynyard United Church with Rev. Annette Taylor officiating. Darlene Storos (niece) was organist, with granddaughter Tamie Piling as soloist. The eulogy was given by Betty Sigfusson. Memorial Book attendants were Carol Lorenz and Debbie Koshinsky. Pallbearers were Joe Deeg, Ray Deeg, Alvin Deeg, Jim Currie, Jerry Lorenz and Rod Koshinsky. Lenard was predeceased by his wife Edith, stepdaughter Winnie Brown; stepson-in-law Armond Brown; parents Harry and Clara Pomfret; brothers Jim and Ben; sister Niela Larson; brothers-in-law John Larson and Fred Paris; grandson Dana Neufield (Pomfret). He leaves to mourn his passing, friend and companion Joyce; daughter Margaret (Mel); son Bert (Myrna); son Marvin (Bud). Sisters Leone Paris of Vernon, BC, children Carol and Glen; Lana (Bill) Hulgarrd of Langley, BC and their daughter Cyndy-Lila (Irvine) McChesney of Kelvington, SK, their family Heather, Marlene and Warren; sister-in-law Hazel Pomfret of Nokomis, SK and her family Randy and Rhonda. Grandchildren: Loretta Cheesbough, Lynn (Pat) Enright, Ryan Robson, Tamie and Shaun Piling, Cory and Kyle Pomfret. Great-grandchildren: Kerrie-Ann, Doug, Stephanie and Kimberly Cheesbough; Brenna, Beth, and Jeffery Enright; Cody and Carlee Pomfret, Logan; Noah and Kailee-Ann Piling. RETTGER - Sarah (nee Krell) Rettger was born February 6, 1915. Her parents were David and Katie Krell who lived on a farm at Lockwood, Saskatchewan. She was the oldest of a family of twelve children and had her elementary school in Lockwood. She accepted the Lord in her teen years and was baptized upon the confession of her faith and joined the Baptist Church in the town of Lockwood. Christian ethics were great part of her up bringing. Bible reading and prayer time were a daily beginning of our day. We were a very blessed family with Christian parents who instilled in us the true value and worth of what was right and wrong; Sunday School and worship were a must in our home; and until her passing these truths continued to be evident in her life. In the 30's when times were hard the Rettger family moved to Manitoba searching for better farm land. On the way they stayed on the Krell yard, and this is where Sarah met Andy and a friendship started. After several years the Rettgers returned to Girven and in September 1937 Sarah and Andy were united in marriage and made their home on a farm near Girven, Saskatchewan.To this union three children were born; George, Fred and Marjorie. Farm life had its ups and down, but through preserverance and a strong constitution they continued on the farm till they moved to the town of Davidson in 1982. Sarah continued with her gardening. She loved flowers and took great pride in her yard. She also loved crocheting and knitting. Her home was a small "Hotel " for family and friends to come and to go. Her heart was big and she loved to have us all, each one was special to her. In her passing she leaves to mourn her son George and Betty and family; son Fred and Gerry and family, daughter Marjorie and Jack Dean and their families; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Eileen Rettger; sister Lydia Rettger; brother Pete and Evelyn Krell; brother Henry and Ruth Krell; sister Margaret and Ernest Schroeder; sister Ida and Jim Franks; sister Esther Wilkinson; sister Ruth and Fred Wojnowski. She is predeceased by her husband Andy (March 1986), brother-in-law Henry (March 2003), brother-in-law Alex (July 2003), her parents David and Katie Krell, brother Ed Krell and his wife Martha, sister Dorothy Norris and husband Lance, brother-in-law Wilf Therrien, a brother in infancy and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The Celebration of Sarah's Life Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at the Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, Davidson, SK at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ken Finnestad officiating. Interment family plot Davidson Cemetery.
RITZ - Aline May (nee Nadiger) 1926 - 2006. Aline passed away the evening of November 29th, 2006 with caring family by her bedside. Aline had been in long term care at the Lanigan Hospital for the past 2 1/2 years. She suffered through all stages of Alzheimer's Disease during this time. Visits from her two sons Keith and Robert, many special family members and special friends were the highlight of her days. The staff were especially good to her, always considerate and caring with such loving kindness. She became very fond of them and they of her. The family has deep gratitude to these individuals and thanks them for the countless blessings they bestowed upon her every day. Aline required very special care for a considerable time. She and her family resided in the village of Lockwood. Aline was predeceased by her husband J. Louis Ritz. She is survived and will be mourned by her two sons, Keith and Robert, as well as many members of the Nadiger and Ritz families and friends far and near. Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date.
RITZ - Edwin Perry. We are saddened by the passing of our dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. Perry passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 15, 2001 with his beloved wife Margaret and good friend Reg present. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 41 years, Margaret, sons Cam (Theresa) and Brad (Chris), grandchildren Max, Hanna, Sidney and a fourth arriving in February. Perry was predeceased by his father Edwin, Mother Jenny, brothers Louis and Merner and sister (Best Pal) Ethel. Also left to mourn his passing are sisters Anita, Jean, Edna and Alda, sisters and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends. Perry was born on a farm near Lockwood, Sask. on June 13, 1915. He was a farm hand for many years and drove a school bus for a good part of his life. He moved to Regina in 1975 where he continued to work, support and raise his family until he retired. He continued his love of antique restoration of tractors and stationary engines. Funeral services will be held on November 20, 2001 at Nokomis United Church. Interment in Lockwood Cemetery.
RITZ - Robert Merner was born June 20, 1911 at Lockwood. Merner married Ruby Smith in 1939. In 1940 they moved to Geraldton Ontario where Merner drove a bus from Geraldton to the mine. With the war on the family moved to Regina where Merner worked at the Regina Airport. In 1945 the family moved to Lockwood and Merner and his brothers started Ritz Bros. Garage. For the next 18 years Merner Ritz was known to many people as someone you could count on to help out in any way he could. Merner drove the school bus for many years and knew all the kids. He and Ruby taught many Lockwood kids to dance at the Lockwood Town Hall where he played his records. In 1962 Merner acquired a job with the Department of Transport and worked for them until he retired in 1976. He worked in the N.W.T., northern Ontario and Saskatoon. It was during this time as Airport Manager in Armstrong, Ontario that Merner bought his own plane and learned to fly. Merner's retirement was spent volunteering at the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon and restoring and snowing his 1924 Rumley Tractor. His last show was June 1993 at the Farm Progress Show in Regina. Merner will be remembered for his kindness and helpfulness. Merner was predeceased by his wife Ruby in 1981, brother Louis and a granddaughter. He is survived by one son, Ed (Helen) Ritz of Charlottesville, Virginia and one daughter, Lois (Jack) Walker, of Regina, Seven grandchildren, Michael Ritz, Sandra Ritz, Holly Ritz, Sheila Walker Brooks, Robert Donnelly, Todd Donnelly, David Walker; and seven great grandchildren, Michael Ritz, Maxwell Ritz, Cody Ritz, Nicholas Ritz, Eric Donnelly, Timothy Donnelly and Adam Brooks; one brother, Perry (Margaret) Ritz of Regina, five sisters, Ethel Forner, Nokomis, Edna Meikle, Lockwood, and Anita Forner, Jean Peterson, Alda Birtles all of Lanigan, two sisters in law, Aline Ritz, Lockwood and Belle Hobman, Nokomis, one brother in law, Bob (Munda) Smith, Regina, and many nieces and nephews. ROLAND - Gwendolynn (nee Hurley) November 15, 1916 - September 25, 2013. Gwen passed away suddenly on the evening of Wednesday, September 25 at the Nokomis Health Centre where she resided since November 2010. Gwen was predeceased by her parents, Maurice and Elizabeth, her brother Harry and sister-in-law Kay, brother John and sister-in-law Irene, her husband Albert Roland, all Ab's brothers and sisters, and step-son Ron Ritz. Gwen leaves to mourn her son David Gordon Sutherland, Guelph, ON, , daughter Elizabeth Jane Bryan, grandchildren Adrienne, Katelyn and David, many great-grandchildren mostly residing in California, step-daughter Heather Ritz, step-grandson Jay of Vancouver, and sister-in-law Marg Roland of Regina. She also leaves many beloved Hurley & Roland nephews and nieces, their families, and a host of friends, old & new. Nothing pleased her more than a visit, card or phone call from her many relatives and friends. Gwen was a great hostess; a cup of tea and snacks would always appear when drop-in visitors or Home Care stopped by. In early years Gwen took training as a secretary, working in Saskatoon, Toronto and Vancouver. These years were very important to her. Later Gwen worked in Nokomis, finishing her working career teaching typing in the late 60�s and early 70's at the Nokomis High School until she married Ab on August 1, 1973. Gwen will be sadly missed by all who knew and cared for her. A Memorial Service will be held in Nokomis Anglican Church in the summer 2014 with interment in Lockwood Cemetery.
RUEDIG - Edith Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Campbell) Ruedig. The death of Mrs. Edith Elizabeth Ruedig occurred on Friday, February 27, 2009 at the Regina General Hospital. She was 80 years of age. Betty was born to Charles and Mary (nee McKinnon) Campbell on March 24, 1928 at Nokomis. She grew up on a farm west of Lockwood and later her family moved to town. She attended Floradale and Lockwood schools. On October 25, 1949, she married Murray Ruedig of Lockwood. Betty liked to garden, bake and curl. In 1979 Betty and Murray retired from farming and built a new home in Nokomis. Betty worked at the hospital for a few years before retiring. She remained in Nokomis until 2002 when she moved to Regina. Betty is survived by her children: Bev Nabe, Irma Ruedig both of Regina, and Ross (Janice) Ruedig of Humboldt; grandchildren: Kourtney Nabe (David Chisholm), Scott (Tammy) Ruedig, Krista (Neal) Nicholson, Amber Ruedig, and Toriann Nabe; one great grandson Kayd Ruedig; and one sister-in-law Margaret Plaster. She was predeceased by her husband Murray Ruedig; parents Charles and Mary (nee McKinnon) Campbell; sister Margrete Dumanski; one brother in infancy; brothers-in-law Nick Dumanski, Bert Plaster, Bill Ruedig; and one sister-in-law Ruby Ruedig. Special thanks to Dr. E. Cameron, EMS, and RGH emergency staff for their kindness and care. The Funeral Service for Betty will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Nokomis United Church officiated by Rev. George Holliday. Interment will follow at the Lockwood Cemetery.
RUEDIG - Murray Fenton Ruedig was born on Dec. 7, 1920 in Lanigan, SK to Herbert & Kathryn (nee Fenton) Ruedig. He grew up in the Undora district attending Nemaha school. Murray was a farmer for most of his life starting out with his father then later purchasing his own land from his uncle Oscar Reedy. He also held jobs driving semi, working on the CP Railroad, driving school bus and working at numerous jobs in the winter months. After he sold the farm to Ross in 1980, he continued to be a constant fixture on the farm in the busy months of seeding and harvest. He enjoyed nothing more than tilling the soil in the spring and running the combine in the fall. Murray was an avid sports enthusiast, playing baseball in his younger days, coaching minor ball in Lockwood and later on was a constant presence at all Lockwood Braves baseball games and Drake Canucks hockey games. During the winter, he could be found at all the local curling rinks. Once retired in Nokomis he took a little more serious interest in golfing and could be found on the course at 6:00 a.m. most mornings "doing nine" and grooming #8 green that he faithfully cared for. Murray took great pride in his grandchildren often packing all 5 of them & Betty into their truck camper and heading off to the lake. He could often be heard chuckling as he told them tales of his younger days. Murray was a kind and gentle man who valued the many friendships he made throughout the years and always enjoyed visits full of jokes and story telling. Murray was predeceased by his parents: Herbert and Kathryn, brother-in-law Bert Plaster and Nick Dumanski. He leaves to mourn, his loving wife Betty of 48 years; three children: Bev, Irma & Ross (Janice); five grandchildren: Kourtney, Scott, Krista, Amber and Toriann; sister Margaret Plaster of Regina; brother Bill (Ruby) Ruedig of Powell River, BC; sister-in-law Margrete Dumanski of Lockwood and numerous nieces and nephews. SAUDER - Howard David. A private family interment for Howard Sauder, aged 88 years was held Saturday, June 26th, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Battle Heights Cemetery. Memorial Service was held at the Carrot River Mennonite Church, Saturday, June 26th, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Henry Braun and Laurie Hudson officiating. Ushers were Bruce Bergen, Bryan Sauder, Lyle Quiring, and Will Sauder. Memorial Book Attendants were Angie Berezowski and Leora Bergen. Honourary Pallbearers were Bill & Edith Crawford, Jean Dean, Leona Little, Ethel Little, Irvin & Irma Megli, Bill Meyers and all those who shared in his life. Active Pallbearers were Lloyd Sauder, Bob Sauder, Connie Quiring, Ruth Quiring, James Slusar, and Ed Sauder. Everyone was welcome to join the family for fellowship and lunch at the Carrot River Community Hall following the service. Howard David Sauder was born to Leonard and Maggie Sauder at Lockwood, SK. on September 21, 1915. He was ushered into the presence of his Lord and Saviour on June 23, 2004. Due to drought on the prairie, the Sauder family moved to the Codette area in 1928. In the fall of 1932, while working on a farm in the Alysham area, a fellow farm hand, Dick Lapp, invited dad to spend the winter on his homestead in the Battle Heights area. During that winter dad first saw the homestead that he subsequently filed for and acquired, which became his home for over 70 years. The first 80 acres of timber were cleared with an axe and sheer determination. It was a joy for dad to see the area open up as land was cleared and roads and ditches built. His death marks the end of an era of original homesteaders living in the Battle Heights District In the late fall of 1935 he met Hazel Thomas whose parents Edward and Edna Thomas moved from Southey to homestead the quarter section where his brother Alfred currently resides. The day following their marriage on June 25, 1937 they moved to dad's homestead where they shared almost 60 years together before mom's passing in February 1997. He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife, Hazel; and his siblings: Alice Devine, Dean and Ed Sauder. He is lovingly remembered and mourned by his youngest brother, Alfred; his children: Bob (Carol) Sauder, Ruth (Arthur) Quiring, Betty (Ron) Russell, Lloyd (Cheryl) Sauder, Connie (Richard) Quiring, Ed (Susan) Sauder; 19 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. At the age of 20 under the ministry of Charles Little, a captain with the Salvation Army, dad accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour. His faith remained steadfast and strong throughout his life. He eagerly looked forward to heaven and to meeting his Saviour face to face. Dad read his Bible daily and was a man of prayer. We will miss his prayers but know that God will continue to answer his requests. Teaching Sunday School, serving as a board member and as a lay minister were a natural outcome of his commitment to the Lord. For many years he was instrumental in seeing that many children attended Bible Camp and Vacation Bible School. Dad and Mom prayed for and provided support for many missionaries and ministers throughout their lifetime, always welcoming them into their home for fellowship, good food and a place to stay. Dad spent many years serving his community; 18 years on the Nipawin School Unit board, 13 years on the Municipal council as well as the C&D board, and the Nursing Home Board during it's construction. Dad will be deeply missed but our memories of his quiet faith, his unconditional love, acceptance and prayers will remain with us. We thank God for having blessed us with such a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a gentle, gracious man in the truest sense of the word.
SCHOEN - Frances (nee Hummason) passed away on May 12, 2013 at the age of 89. Born August 19, 1923, she was a true Leo: strong, proud, a leader. The third of eight children, she was raised by parents Lewis and Estella Hummason on the family farm in Lockwood, SK, along with sisters Jean, Ada, Helen, Fern, and Blanche, and brothers Fred and George. Frances was fortunate to attend university and was later hired by the University of Saskatchewan where she happily worked for many years as a Professor in the Anatomy Department. She married John Schoen in 1949 and gave birth to two children, Nancy and Tim. She enjoyed visits with her grandchildren, Emily and Jeremy. Highly athletic, due in part to having Type 1 diabetes, Frances enjoyed curling, swimming, cycling, cross country skiing, and sometimes golf (depending on how well she did!), and John "enjoyed" all this as well. Frances had requested that her body be cremated. Her cremains are now home with John. A Celebration of Life was held May 29 in Saskatoon and was attended by many family and friends.
SHEARER - Albert Leslie Shearer was born at home on January 15, 1932 to Bill and Lizzie Shearer near Lockwood, SK. He attended Howat School but left to help out on the family farm. He put his dream of farming behind and began working for farmers in the surrounding community. Around 1956 he started working as road operator for the RM of Mount Hope at Semans. While working there he met Ina Hodge and they were married on her parents' farm near Semans on June 11, 1959. Together they raised two children, Doreen and Leslie. In 1962, he began delivering fuel for the Semans Co-op. Soon after he took eight months of manager training at the Weyburn Co-op and then moved on to Wynyard Co-op to accept the Petroleum Manager position which he held for 21 years. He retired in 1986 after suffering a major heart attack. He served as town councillor in Wynyard from 1974-1997 and once said that he chose to step down before he was asked to leave. While serving for the town he was very proud to be involved in the street paving project and development of the main water treatment plant at that time. Camping, fishing and the love of the outdoors was important to him. The family made many trips up north on the Hanson Lake Road, stopping off at their favourite lakes along the way. They finally settled to one spot and moved a little cabin to Barrier Lake which they kept from 1976-1992. When they sold the cabin, they purchased a small motor home and remained there until they purchased another cabin at Fishing Lake in 1997. In 2004, Albert and Ina moved to Foam Lake. In his younger years he played baseball as a catcher, but curling was his passion. Over the years he spent hours at the rink in Wynyard making ice, organizing bonspiels or just curling. He curled in many rinks in the surrounding area. In 1988, he was presented with a Life Membership in the Wynyard Curling Club. Albert was an avid hunter and fisherman and has passed these skills on to his children and grandchildren. In recognition of his dedication to hunting and fishing, he was presented with a Life Membership in the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation in 1988. He enjoyed gardening and took great pride in having a well kept yard. Family was most important to him and he was very proud of their accomplishments. Albert alvays enjoyed a good game of cards and was never happy unless he won. He looked forward to all the family reunions and gatherings. Everyone who knew him enjoyed his sense of humor and looked forward to his next joke. Albert passed away peacefully on November 20, 2008 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Ina, daughter Doreen and Daryl Radom, Erin and friend Randy Rosenthal, Lauren and Amber of Foam Lake and son Leslie and Connie, Rene, Brett, Jillian and Ellie of Porcupine Plain, SK. Also surviving him is one brother Tom of Nokomis, SK, sister-in-law Ann Hobman of Lockwood, SK, brothers-in-law Roy (Thelma) Hodge of Drumheller, AB, Lyle (Betty) Hodge of Lethbridge, AB, Grant (Linda) Hodge of Prince Albert, SK and Neil (Bev) Hodge of Revelstoke, BC and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister Doreen in infancy, mother Lizzie in 1950, father Bill in 1979, father-in-law Art Hodge in 1981, brothers Bob in 1983, Ray in 1994, mother-in-law Mary Hodge in 1997 and brother-in-law Clayton Hobman in May 2008. The Funeral Service was held Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Foam Lake United Church. Reverend Sherran Schick officiating. Wendy Eyolfson as the organist. Memorial book attendants were Glen and Jean Zacher. Gary Hilderman and Ron Zander were the ushers and Brett Shearer was the urnbearer. Honorary pallbearers were all family and friends who shared in his life. A family only interment was held at Foam Lake Cemetery following the service. Albert gave so much to so many and left all who knew him with very special memories.
SHEARER - Richard William "Tom" (March 16,1923 - May 12, 2014). Richard William Shearer "Tom" late of Parkland Place, Melfort Saskatchewan passed away from this life with family at his side on May 12, 2014 at the age of 91. Tom was born March 16,1923 at Stras bourg, Sask. to William and Lizzy Shearer of Lockwood, Sask. Tom took his early schooling at Howat School, completing grade seven before he had to go out to work. Tom worked on the family farm with his brother Bob and father Bill. He also worked helping out our neighbours' farms with livestock, threshing and hauling hay and wood. He enjoyed telling many stories about his farming adventures. He loved working with the livestock on the farm, especially the horses. Tom enjoyed curling, hockey, and baseball with his brothers and father. The Nokomis Fair was a highlight of the year. He retired from farming in 1983, a year after the passing of his brother Bob, but continued to live on the farm until he moved into Lanigan. Tom continued to help out on the farms of friends hauling grain at combining time, and he contin ued to curl at Nokomis into his eighties, driving there weekly to play. He spent time in retirement fishing and hunting with a friend. At the age of 86 he went on his last fishing outing with his nephew Les. Tom hosted his March birthday party with his family and friends. With his eyesight fail ing and unable to drive, he returned to live Nokomis. There he attended the 500 card parties and events at the Seniors Center. Five years ago Tom made the choice to move to Porcupine Plain to be to be near family. He resided in the Centennial Lodge until failing health had him move into the Red Deer Nurs ing Home. Eight months ago he moved to Parkland Place in Melfort to remain with family. He resided there until his passing at Melfort Hospital. Tom was pre deceased by his mother Lizzy, father Bill, brothers Bob, Ray, and Albert. He leaves to celebrate his life sister-in-law Ina Shearer, niece Doreei Radom (Daryl), Erin, Lauren and Am ber, nephew Les Shearer (Connie), Rene (Corbin), Brett, Jillian and Ellie. Tom's love for storytelling and his good nature endeared him to many. He will be missed by his family and those who cared for him. The Funeral Service was held at the Ni komis Centennial Hall on Friday, May 16th at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Jack Robson offi ciating. The Pallbearers were Les Shearer, Brett Shearer, Daryl Radom, Jillian Shearer, Ellie Shearer, and Corbin Gustus Readings were done by Rene Shearer and Amber Radom. SMITH - Dale Robert Smith passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20th, 2003, at the age of 90 1/2 years. Dale was born December 25, 1912, to Paul and Mabel Smith on the farm at Lockwood, Sk. Dale took his schooling at Keller, Sk. He moved with his parents to Fairy Glen in 1930. In 1935, he then moved to the Crocken Hill district north of Choiceland where his family operated a sawmill and at the same time they cleared land for farming. In 1945, Dale purchased his first quarter of land and continued to farm in the Crocken Hill district until retiring to Nipawin in 1983. In 1946, Dale married Lottie Wiese. Lottie's parents gave them a cow for a wedding present so thus began his many years of life on the farm. Some of Dale's other endeavors in those years included going back to Fairy Glen each fall for 10 years to help his brother-in-law, John, with the harvest. He also worked with his brother-in-law, Walter, logging at Atik. Dale then operated a planer mill at home supplying lumber for people in surrounding districts. Over the next number of years, Dale provided a loving and happy environment for Lottie and his children. In more recent years, Dale also was the caretaker at the Choiceland Skating Rink for 6 years and was employed at the Choiceland Dehy Plant for 8 years. Dale was a great husband, Dad, Grandpa and Friend. Dale loved getting together with family and friends. He enjoyed sports of all kinds and loved a game of cards at any time. His sense of humor will leave a lasting impression with his family and everyone who knew him. Dale was an active member of the Lutheran Church in Choiceland and Nipawin. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when his family, friends and community was in need. Dale was predeceased by his son Lyle, his parents Paul and Mabel, his brothers Jim and Paul and other family members. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years Lottie; his children, Carol (Al) Muir, Elaine (Brian) Black, Doug (Iris) Smith, Bev Seykora (Edward), Bob (Myrna) Smith, Linda (Abe) Letkeman, Sandra Smith, Karen (Milton) Brown, Al (Jodi) Smith; also his 28 beloved grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers, Russell, Ray and Lloyd; his sisters Isla and Ellen; brothers and sisters-in-law as well as numerous nephews and nieces. We love you Dad. Rest in peace. SMITH - Noel Alexander was born in Gainsborough, Sask. to Ralph and Bestsey Smith and was the youngest of three children. Noel lived most of his life in the Gainsborough district. He was first married in 1955 and there were three children from this union; Kerry, Betsey and Patti. During this time Noel's main occupation was farming and ranching. He was well known for his purebred hereford cattle & bull sales, PMU line and was a rodeo stock contractor. He was active in the Agricultural Society and 4-H. He coached hockey for years. Noel married Shirley Cole of Regina on October 26, 1974 and they started there married life on November 30th on a farm near Nokomis. Noel became an immediate grandfather with his marriage as Shirley had three children and two grandchildren. Both Noel and Shirley have been very active in the Nokomis and Lockwood Communities. Noel held offices in the Nokomis Gymkhana Club and Agricultural Society and belonged to the Lockwood Community Club and Curling Club. Noel spent many hours with his kids and grandkids teaching horsemanship (as he knew it) and taking a lot of pride when they did well. Noel is survived by his loving wife and best friend Shirley; his son Kerry of Calgary, daughters Betsey Nolin of Saskatoon and Patti Smith & partner Rany Mundell of Saskatoon; stepchildren Sheryl Ann (Jim) Shanks of Pilot Butte, Terry (Jackie) Cole of Brandon, MB, and Wendy (Dale) Shanks of Nokomis. Grandchildren Cory, Trina, Steven, Darren, Melissa, Dana, Brandi, Jacob, Teryn and Shalyn. Shirley was predeceased by: her second husband Noel Smith and first husband James Cole; granddaughter April Shanks; stepson Kerry Smith; parents and siblings. STEPHENSON - Richard �Dick� Edward (September 26, 1925 - February 29, 2016). In the early morning hours of February 29, 2016 on the twelfth anniversary of his beloved wife Margaret's death, Richard slipped away peacefully in his sleep at Saskatoon City Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, Dick and Margaret Stephenson and his brother Max. Richard will be deeply missed by his daughter Bonnie (Art Baalim), grandsons Fraser (Candace Lapointe), Liam, step-grandsons Galt (Roxane), Burke and great-granddaughter Emma, sister Kathleen (Gus Froese), brother-in-law Jack Paice, sister-in-law Katherine Shaw and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard grew up in farming communities in the Lockwood-Drake area and remained immensely appreciative and proud of his rural roots. His distinguished career as an educator began in a rural school with forty students in ten grades when he was a few weeks shy of his eighteenth birthday. In 1949 he married Margaret Shaw and moved to Wapella to become principal of the school and where their daughter Bonnie was born. Later he was superintendent of schools for the Govan School Unit and concluded his career after many years as director of education with the Moose Jaw School District #1. Eight years ago Richard moved to Saskatoon to be close to his family. He made many friends during his years living in Luther Riverside Terrace and received kind and compassionate care from the staff at Prairie Spring Care Home. Richard lived a life of service. He gave back to the community through participation and leadership in all levels of professional organizations, Rotary Club, Minto United Church, Masonic Lodge to name just a few. His love, support and pride in his family knew no bounds. The word most commonly used when describing him is gentleman. In all settings he was unfailingly considerate of others, thoughtful, polite, and even in his final difficult months continued to express appreciation and gratitude to those around him. We were very blessed to have him in our lives and he will live on in our hearts. A Memorial Service will be held in Moose Jaw and will be announced at a later date
SUNDQUIST - Margaret Rose (nee Morningstar). The death of Margaret Rose Sundquist aged 62 years of the Venn District occurred at the Watrous Union Hospital on Friday, July 28, 2006. The Funeral Service will be held in Watrous United Church on Wednesday, August 2 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Venn Cemetery. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Clyden and Verna Morningstar and is survived by her husband Gerald; sons, Brad (Gaylene) and their children Troy and Ami; Monty (Monique) and their children, Paige, Lauryn, Matthew and Lindsay; brothers, Ron (Ruth) Morningstar and Larry (Donna) Morningstar; numerous nieces and nephews.

TURNER - Douglas. On April 24, 1997, Doug Turner passed away in the Watrous Union Hospital. Doug, son of William and Lily Turner, was born October 18, 1913 on the family homestead: Sec. 18. TP31, Rg20, W of 2 (Haliburton District). He was the third of six children. Doug grew up and mostly worked in the Lockwood area until he and Olive Menzie married November 9, 1938. In Oct. 1946, they moved to the Wakefield district and Semans became their home. They farmed full time until the summer of 1957. he became the part-time manager of the Mount Hope Community Pasture and in the fall of 1957 PFRA took over the pasture and he managed it until their retirement to Semans, December 1, 1978. Doug was in good health and remained active doing limited farming until the fall of 1996. Doug is survived by his wife. Olive, four sons: Lynn (Moose Jaw), Larry (Calgary), Don (Watrous), and Elwood (Springside), two sisters: Genie (Saskatoon). Irene (Vanscoy), and nine grandchildren. Doug was predeceased bv three brothers: Bill, Ern and Bob and his granddaughter, Yvonne Turner. He will be remembered for being a good stockman and his enjoyment of working with horses. He appreciated working with people and in his mind wanted fair treatment. Funeral Service at Semans United Church, April 28, 1997. TURNER - Emma. The death of Mrs. Emma Turner, 86 years, of Regina formerly of Lanigan occurred at the Regina General Hospital with her family by her side on Friday, May 2, 2008. Emma will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children, grandchildren and many others. A Funeral Service will be held for Emma on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanigan. Officiated by, Pastor Rick Johnson. Interment will follow at the Lockwood Cemetery.
TURNER - William John Turner was born on March 16, 1906 in the city of Winnipeg and passed away on July 27, 1989. He and Mrs. Turner (Rose) were married October 8, 1934 and resided on their farm in Lockwood until 1976 when they retired to the town of Watrous. Mr. Turner's pride and joy was his family. He will be remembered as a caring husband by Mrs. Turner, and as a father who put family first by his sons ( Ivor, Russell, Dale, Allister, Bob), and his daughters (Doreen, Muriel) his seventeen grand-children and one great grand-child are left with the knowledge that their grandfather took a keen interest in each and every one of them and cherished their companionship. UHRICH - Jacob. It is with sad hearts our family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather on Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at Dr. Cooke Extended Care Centre, Lloydminster, Alberta where he resided for the past four years. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff for the excellent care he received there. Jake will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Loreen (MacKenzie) Gidge of Lloydminster and Sylvia (Larry) Elder of Winnipeg; 7 grandchildren, James Gidge, Colin Gidge, Joye (Buck) Scarf, MacKenzie Gidge Jr., Julie Elder, Sheri (Helmut) Dyck and Tara (Christian) Stefansson; 5 great grandchildren, Stephanie Elder, Gavin Gidge, Luke and Nicholas Stefansson and Brady Dyck; brother-in-law, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Jake was predeceased by his wife Katherine in 1987, parents John and Anna Uhrich, brothers Carl and August, sisters Mary Kuxhaus and Katie Schwab, and niece Christina Murray. Jake was born in Russia on April 9, 1908, the youngest of five children. In 1912 he immigrated to Saskatoon with his family. In the 20's he came to Lockwood with his parents, sister Mary and brother, August where they homesteaded on a farm 1 mile southwest of Lockwood. On November 7, 1937 he married Katherine Hilderman who had been his housekeeper. In 1939 they were blessed with a daughter, Loreen. After his mother died in 1939 his father came to live with them on the farm until his death in l957. In 1942 Sylvia was born. Jake farmed, raised cattle, trucked cattle, horses, grain, did custom baling. His favourite pastime was fishing and he was very good at it just casting the line from the edge of the lake. He also liked duck hunting in the fall. He played the mouth organ. He was an active member of the Lockwood Lutheran congregation. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. In 1962 they retired to Lockwood where his hobbies were making wishing wells and windmills. He also made a little trailer to put behind his bike so that he could give his grandchildren rides in it. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and later his great-grandchildren. Jake and Katie made numerous trips to Lloydminster and Winnipeg to be with their grandchildren. In 1981 they moved to Nokomis. He enjoyed going to the Drop-In Centre there to play cards, bingo and other games. He won at Bingo many times. He enjoyed gardening and had a garden up until he moved to Lloydminster. He was a great cook and always ate healthy, when he couldn't drive a car anymore he went over town by bike. When the weather was suitable he'd go for a walk in the mornings. When Katie passed away in 1987 Jake lived by himself until the fall of 1998 when he moved to Lloydminster to live with Loreen. In December 1999 he went to Dr. Cooke Extended Care Centre where he stayed until his passing.Funeral Service in Lockwood Community Hall on Monday, September 15th, 2003. WALLACE - Joseph Foster, of Morris, MB, aged 94 years, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2002 at Morris General Hospital, with his daughter Audrey, and son Keith at his side. He was predeceased by his first wife Mony and his second wife Elsie. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Keith and his wife Janet of Kamloops, BC; and his daughter Audrey and husband Ted Imrie of Toronto, ON; his grandchildren, Shelley Wallace (Ian), Michael (Cheryl) Wallace, Greg (Judi) Wallace, Karla (Shea) Hewitt, Peter (Kym) Imrie, Diane Imrie; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Lisa, Brendan, Kelli, Matthew and Meghan. Also surviving are his wife Elsie's family Dorothy (Maurice) Paley; her grandchildren, Nicole (Hank) Bogers and David; her great-grandchildren, Carla (Shaun) Martin, Dustin, Dana and Kyle. Joe was born in Lockwood, SK in 1908, spent his working life in Smiley, SK, Dominion City, MB, Winnipeg, MB and Vancouver, BC and his retirement years in Nokomis and Alsask, SK also Morris. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 22 at 2:00 p.m. from the Morris United Church in Morris, with Rev. Jeanette Brigit officiating. A private family interment service will be held at a later date in the Nokomis Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Saturday, July 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Morris Funeral Home in Morris. The family would like to thank Dr. Fraser and the outstanding staff at Morris General Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion during his illness.
WENTZ - Roy J. (June 11, 1925 - September 17, 2005). Roy was born at the Kingman farm, near Jansen to Ernest and Elizabeth (nee Tiede) Wentz. He grew up in the Haliburton community, between Jansen and Lockwood, and received his education at Haliburton School. After finishing his education, Roy took up the lifelong career of farming, one which he thoroughly enjoyed. He married Hazel Gammie on October 23, 1947 in Wynyard. They spent the next 35 years farming in the same area where Roy had grown up. In 1982, they retired and moved into Humboldt, although he still spent a number of years after that helping other farmers. Roy was a member of the Haliburton Community Club and the Lockwood United Church while living on the farm, and Westminster United Church in Humboldt, following their move to town. Roy's interests were varied; he enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, visiting with family and friends, reading, hiking and gardening, especially looking after the trees and his yard. Roy will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Hazel Wentz of Humboldt; their two sons, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren: Reg (Sharon) Wentz of Humboldt and their family, Michelle (George) Flemming and children, Maren, Ben and Ava, of Calgary, AB, and Shawn (Deanna) Wentz and twins, Makayla and Trinity of Yellowknife, NWT; and Larry (Carol) Wentz of Calgary and their family, Nicole (Kevin) Kronberger and son, Dylan, Tricia (Steve) Grubbe and children, Jayden and Jordan, and Andrea (Lorenzo) Cortes, all of Calgary; one brother, Devon (Anne) Wentz of Melfort; two sisters-in-law, Helen Wentz of Black Diamond, AB and Mabel Wentz of Santa Rosa, Calif; one brother-in-law, Ed Schurr of Santa Rosa; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Elizabeth Wentz; three brothers: Tom Wentz, Charlie Wentz and Clarence Wentz; and four sisters: Jess (Ed) Schurr, Violet (Jack) Zenert, Lil (Charles) Shea, and Ruth Schurr. WENTZ - Annie Violet (nee Gammie) was born November 3, 1928 at Lockwood, Saskatchewan to Alexander Gammie and Violet Haigh. She was the fifth of nine children who grew up on the family farm. Anne attended Howat School and then moved to Drake to complete Grade XII. In 1949 she married Devon Wentz and the couple farmed together at Brooksby, northeast of Melfort. Their teamwork continued when they moved to Melfort in 1960. Two daughters, Debora and Dianne completed their family. She was an active volunteer in the Melfort community. In recent years, she was treasurer of the Parkland Auxiliary, a devoted Legion member and part of the UCW group at the Melfort United Church. Anne approached every task with care and competence. She was a most loving and loyal mother and grandmother. She completed life�s journey June 10, 2008. She was predeceased by her parents and her sisters Marion and Jeanne. She will always be lovingly remembered by her husband Devon; daughters Debora (Dennis) Gysler, Dianne (Greg) Gryba; grandchildren Daniel, Stephanie, Brad, Jason and Jeff (Jessica); sisters Mary Worley, Hazel Wentz, Nellie Friesen, Alice (Ken) Kane and Irene (Harvey) Forner; brother Maurice (Anne) and numerous nieces and nephews. Service of remembrance was held from the Melfort United Church on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Lynne Clarke officiating. Honourary Pallbearers were "All of Anne�s Family & Friends". Urn bearers were Jeff Gysler, Jason Gysler, Brad Gryba and Daniel Gryba. A poem was presented by granddaughter Stephanie Gryba. Music ministry was offered by Bernice McCosh, Bonnie Nicholson, Henri Loiselle and the Melfort United Church Choir. Interment followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
WILLIAMS - John Jack Bryon. Jack passed away peacefully at the Convalescent Home on December 1st, 2011. Jack was blessed to be surrounded by loved ones and his dear wife, Arlene, in his final hours of a 6 1/2 year battle with cancer. Jack grew up in Lockwood, SK, and moved to Saskatoon after high school to begin his life and family. He worked as a heavy duty mechanic at the Watrous Power Systems, and enjoyed his free time snowmobiling, being a handyman, and craftsman. He loved spending time with his wife, Arlene; daughters, Larissa (20), Chelsea (17); and bunnies Cadbury and Ren. He is also loved and remembered by his two sisters, several in-laws, nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Helen. A special thank you to The Nurse Next Door, Dr. Martens, as well as the nurses and care aides at the Convalescent Home for providing Jack with exceptional care. A Celebration of Jack's life will be held on his birthday at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5th at Windsor Chapel, 704 Windsor Street (corner of 8th Avenue North and Windsor Street).
WILLIAMS - Richard William Douglas Williams was born December 16, 1925, the third child of Edgar Byron and Jean Robertson Williams of Regina, SK. His father was involved in thelamilies business, R.H. Williams Department Store. The family, including sisters Betty and Lillas, were very close and spent summers at Regina Beach and at Banff. Douglas's elementary and high school education were in Regina schools. For two summers Doug worked at the Ralph Copland farm south of Regina, which lead to his life as a farmer. Doug enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 at the age of 17 years. He became a stoker on a ship serving as Coastal Guard stationed out of Halifax. After World War 2, Doug attended CVT School in Edmonton, there completing Grade 12 and obtaining tradesman classes. In 1945, with the sale of the R.H. Williams business, Doug and his father purchased a grain farm near Condie, on the old #11 highway. Doug and Helen W. M. Kanik were married February 21,1953. In the winter of 1954, Doug and Helen purchased the farm near Lockwood, which had once been the Lockwood Experimental Farm. They moved in February of 1955 and Doug was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of raising livestock. Doug and Helen and children Susan and Jack moved to Chaplin, SK where he owned a hardware and lumber business from 1961 1965. They returned to the farm where he remained in mixed farming until the passage of the farm to Susan and Dave Smith and his retirement to Manitou Beach in November of 1992. Doug passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Saturday, August 25th at the age of 75 years. His wife Helen succumbed to cancer earlier, March 3, 1987 at the age of 59 years. He is survived by daughters Mary Lou Spangelo of Winnipeg; Susan Denise Williams Smith (Dave) and children Read and Becky, of Lockwood; and John (Jack) Byron Williams (Arlene) and daughters Larissa and Chelsea of Saskatoon; sisters Betty (Lude) Waremg of Regina and Lillas (Bob) Cawsey of Calgary ana their families. Funeral Service at Nokomis United Church on Wednesday, August 29th, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers: Dale Shanks, Ken Dumanski, Brian Konschuh, Willie Meyer, John Jabs, Gerry Wiens. WILSON - Anna (nee McKinnon) Ellis Wilson was born in Bruce County on February 128, 1891 to Angus and Margaret (McLay) McKinnon, the second eldest of a family of five. When Anna was six years old, the family moved to Devlin, Ontario in the Rainy River district. Anna walked to and from school which was three miles each way. In the summer of 1909 Anna came west with her brother Allan to cook for her Dad and brother Hector, who had come west in the spring to file on a homestead. They went back to Ontario in the fall. In the Spring of 1910, all the family came west to live on their new homestead northeast of Lockwood. In 1911 Anna married Ernie Ellis in the United Church Manse in Lanigan, Sask. They settled on his farm seven miles from Lockwood, in the Howat District. They raised seven children: Alex, Mac, Ernest, Verna, Margaret, Donelda and Bill. In the early 1930�s, Anna was a member of the Usborne Homemaker�s Club at Lockwood. In 1933 she helped form the Prairie Rose Homemakers Club in the Howat and Haliburton Districts. Anna was still an honourary member at the time of her death. She taught Sunday School at Howat School and was a member of the Lockwood/Nokomis United Church. Anna worked hard looking after seven children and cooking for extra men in the busy season. She cared for her sick husband Ernie until his passing in 1938 and her invalid mother until her passing in 1943. She married Donald Wilson in 1948, they lived in Lockwood. In 1980 Donald moved to Parkland Lodge in Lanigan. In 1981 Anna moved to Nokomis. When she reached her 99th birthday, her greatest desire was to reach her 100th birthday, which she did, plus three years more. In July 1992 Anna moved to Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan where she resided until January 1994 when she moved to Nokomis Health Centre. She was predeceased by an infant son; her husbands, Ernie Ellis in 1938; Donald Wilson in 1982; three sons, Ernest 1962, Bill in 1991, Alex in 1994; her father and mother, her sister Mary; three brothers, Hector, Allan and Alex; one daughter-in-law, Cathy Ellis; one son-in-law Ken Hendry. She is survived by one son Mac, three daughters, Verna (Ross) Morningstar; Margaret (Richard) Coleman and Donelda Hendry; twenty grandchildren; thirty five great grandchildren; and fifteen great great grandchildren. Also eighteen caring nieces and nephews. Anna passed away June 10th, 1994 at the age of 103 years and 3 months. Funeral Service at Nokomis United Church on Wednesday, June 15, 1994 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Lockwood Cemetery.
WOOD - Robert "Bob" John Wood was bom November 27, 1919 to Garry and Marjorie (nee Bell) in Fort Qu'Appelle, SK, and was the fourth of 11 children. In 1923 his family took up farming in the Haliburton District where he attended school for eight years and enjoyed playing hockey with the Alkali Savages. Bob married Elizabeth Annie (Bessie) on October 24, 1949, and they took up residence at the Chaplin Farm at Lockwood. Three children blessed their marriage, Joan, Anne and Linda. The family enjoyed life on the farm with lots of animals and gardening. Bessie passed away April 1, 1975. Bob married Polly Wilson on December 18,1978 and they made their home on the farm. Bob and Polly retired and moved to Watrous in 1996. Bob was put into respite at the Manitou Lodge on February 25, 2011. At the age of 91, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on March 5. Bob was predeceased by: parents, Garry and Marjorie Wood; first wife, Elizabeth Annie (Bessie) Chaplin; brothers, Garry, Harold, Sandy (twin), Hughie; sisters, Dorothy, Kathy, Eleanor; Bessie's parents, William and Annie; brothers-in-law, Frank (Doris), Art (Hazel), Gilbert (Stella), Wilfred (Evelyn); nephew, Bill Chaplin; stepsister, Molly McLean; nephew, Robin; Polly's parents, Walter and Lucy Matwichuk. Left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife of 32 years, Polly; his children, Joan (Gord) Gress, Christie (Marly) Topping, Meg and Owen; Kelly Gress, Jody (Corinne) Gress, Benjamin; Anne Wood (Brian); Linda (Elmer) Kinzel, Corey (Ni-cole), Sandy; step-children, Donna (Gerry) Mighton, Kristie, Kelly; Danny (Blanca) Homenuik, Orlando, Bianco. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Betty Bennett, Margaret Herr, Florence Rattray and their families, brother-in-law John (Judy) Jemioff, sister-in-law Rose (Ken) Milligan, Lillian (Dale) Milligan and their families also numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and their extended families and many good friends. A memorial service was held at Watrous United Church in Watrous, SK, on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Deborah Smith officiating. Register attendants were Lyle and Denise Lucas. Ushers were Ryan Momingstar and Ron Ediger. Organist was Elva Turner.Honourary Pallbearers were 'all that knew him'. Memories were from the grandchildren. Tribute was by Rev. Jack Robson. Interment will be at a later date. A lunch in the lower level of the church followed the service.
WORLEY - Mary (nee Gammie). Mary was born at Lockwood, on May 6, 1918 to Alexander and Violet Gammie. She was the eldest of nine children. She was raised and went to school in the Howat school district. Her early childhood memories were of stooking grain, milking cows, and school picnics. On July 8, 1942 she married the love of her life, Ernest Worley. They settled at the Rothwell district where they farmed. To this union were born two children Robert Alexander and Margaret Peggy. Together they raised Gerald, Lorne, and Floyd Fawcett, and John and Tom Kai. She was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary started work in 1970 at the Pioneer Lodge in Melfort, first in housekeeping and soon became the cook. Her duties also included passing out medication to the residents. She continued to work until her retirement at age 65. Mary loved her plants, her living room, at times, resembled a florist shop. She looked forward to each spring to the arrival of her purple martins and hummingbirds. She found it most entertaining to watch the hummingbirds, sometimes four at a time, at their feeder outside her living room window. Mary was an excellent cook. She had large gardens and did up quantities of preserves. Grandchildren always received batches of cooking and squares when they visited or when she visited them. In particular everyone enjoyed her chocolate brownies and her jumbo raisin cookies. Mary was admitted to Parkland Place on December 17, 1996, where she was lovingly cared for by the staff. Mary was predeceased by her parents Alex and Violet Gammie, an infant brother, her husband Ernie, her daughter-in-law Pam, her sisters Marion Wilhelm, Jeanne Chute, and Anne Wentz and brothers-in-law John Chute, Abe Friesen, Ernest Wilhelm, and Roy Wentz. Left to mourn her passing is her son Robert (Gloria) and his children Corina (Tim) Weisberg (Andrew, Justin, Brennan, Katlyn), Trevor (Roxanne) Worley (Derek, Jared), Troy (Cindy) Worley (Thomas, Sarah, Nina). As well as extended family, Mike (Barb) Zipp and Shawn (Candace) Zipp (Delaney, Dakota). Her daughter Peggy (Rick) Genest, and their children Anne (Dwain) Simard, (Matthew, Nicole, Amy) Ray (Cindy) Genest, (Dawson, Nolan). Her brother Maurice (Anne), sisters Hazel Wentz, Nellie Friesen, Alice (Ken) Kane, and Irene (Harvey) Forner and brother-in-law Devon Wentz, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her other extended family of Tom and Mimmie Kai, John and Wilma Kai, Gerald and Faye Fawcett, Lorne Fawcett, and Floyd Fawcett and all of their families. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff at Parkland Place who so lovingly and thoughtfully cared for Mary for the last 12 years. Their kindness did not go un-noticed. A service of remembrance was held on Tuesday October 7, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from Park Avenue Bible Church with Pastor Tassos Xanthopoulos officiating. Interment followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
