ALLAN - Gertrude "Gertie" (nee Day), late of Regina and Vernon, BC, passed away at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, on Friday March 9, 2001. Gertie was born on July 23, 1916, in a cottage on her parent's farm at Craven. She attended Burnside and Reliance Schools. Gertie worked for Social Services for 35 years. Predeceased by her husband Thomas and parents Elizabeth and Stanley Day, she will be sadly missed by her sister Kathleen Hodel of Vernon, BC; her sister-in-law Jean Beattie of Regina; nieces, nephews; extended family and friends. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, on Saturday, March 17th, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Regina Memorial Gardens Cemetery. ANDERSON - Winnifred Blanche (nee Neison). Blanche died peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital on March 6, 2005. Blanche was predeceased by her father George Sutherland Neison; her mother Florence Louise Neison; brothers William and Alfred (Jock) Neison; and sister F. Frances Marshall. She is also predeceased by her first husband John Brackenridge Semple and her second husband Marshall Dale Anderson. Blanche is survived by her two daughters Mary (Joe) Bernhardt; and Helen (Gary) Marcotte; four sons Bill Semple, Gavin (Annette) Semple, Jim (Linda) Semple and Jack (Tara) Semple. She is also survived by her two step daughters Alice (Willie) Kammer and Laura (Dean) Pylypuk; two step sons Charlie (Marian) Anderson and Dale (Betty) Anderson. Blanche is also survived by twenty-seven grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; also survived by her sister Frances Marshall's family. Blanche was born to George and Florence Neison of Zehner on August 15, 1918. She attended Braemar School in the Zehner District. Blanche married John Semple on July 20, 1940 and moved to the Craven District, SK where they raised a family of six children. She loved farm life where she could enjoy all of the wonders of nature. She especially enjoyed walks to the valley where she could enjoy the wild flowers, trees, and animals. Blanche made a lot of sacrifices for our family of eight. Although she had no conveniences like running water or electricity, she never complained. She was always positive and always thinking of others. Twenty-one years after Blanche's first husband John passed away, she married Marshall Anderson and moved to Raymore. She loved the Raymore community, her new found friends, and especially the Anderson family. After Marshall's passing, she moved into the Marian Chateau in Regina where she lived until she moved into the Precious Memories Special Care Home. Among her many friends were the members of the Piapot First Nations and the various church groups to which she was a member. A CELEBRATION OF BLANCHE'S LIFE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy # 1 East, Regina, SK on Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. ANDREW - Marion Lenore Andrew (nee Stone) was born January 7, 1922 on the family farm near Strongfield, SK and died on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at the age of 87 years. Marion is survived by her husband, Bill of Craven, SK; daughter, Sylvia (Wayne Wormald) Andrew and grandsons, Ted and Will, all of Simcoe, ON; brothers and sisters, Glenna (Cliff Salahub) of Sechelt, BC, Curtis Stone of Lethbridge, AB, Winona (Murray Taylor) of Borden, SK, Colleen (George Goossen) of Victoria, BC, Eldon Stone (Darlene) of Logan Lake, BC, Gary Stone (Myrna) of Strongfield, SK, David Stone (Beverly) of Coaldale, AB; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Marion was predeceased by her parents Paul and Beda Stone; her brothers, Roger and Mitchell; and sister Corinne. A celebration of Marion's life will be held in July. BLENDER - Dan Blender of Calgary, passed away at the Cedars Villa Nursing Home on Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at the age of 93 years. Dan will be lovingly remembered by: his daughters, Audrey (Barrie) Templeton of Calgary and Lois (Dalton) Wilson of Didsbury; his grandchildren, Susan (Gordon) of Vancouver, Mark of Calgary, Michael (Sarah) of Red Deer and Jill of Calgary; and his greatgrandchildren, Kristin, Derek, Jessica, Rikki and Cole all of Vancouver. He will also be lovingly remembered by: his brothers, Michael (Alma) Blender of Chesley, ON, Jack Blender of Regina, SK; and his sister Anne Besse. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Herta, his parents, Anton and Marie, eight brothers and two sisters. Dan was born in Romania, immigrated to Canada in 1914 and was raised in Lumdsen, SK. There he met and married his late wife, Herta in 1942 and together they raised their family in Craven, SK, before retiring in 1974 and later moved to Calgary in 1985. Dan will be sadly missed by family and friends. A special thank you to the care givers of the Cedars Villa Nursing Home for their care and compassion. BLENDER - Herta Blender, beloved wife of Dan of Calgary, passed away at the Cedars Villa Nursing Home on Tuesday, January 1, 2002, at the age of 84 years. Besides her loving husband, Herta will be dearly missed by her daughters: Audrey (Barrie) Templeton of Calgary and Lois (Dalton) Wilson of Didsbury, her four grandchildren: Susan (Gordon) of Vancouver, Mark and Jill of Calgary and Michael of Didsbury as well as five great-grandchildren: Kristin, Derek, Jessica, Rikki and Cole all of Vancouver. She was predeceased by her four brothers. Herta was born and raised in Silton, Saskatchewan where she met and married her husband Dan in 1942, they then resided in Craven, Saskatchewan to raise their family. Herta retired in 1969 in Lumsden, Saskatchewan and later in Calgary. She will be sadly missed by all who touched her life. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Friday, January 4, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. BLENDER - Jack Dennis. It is with great sadness that the family of Jack Blender announces his passing peacefully in his sleep on August 31, 2008 at the age of 86. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Katherine (nee Eiswerth), his parents Anton and Mary, brothers Alex, Bill, Dan, George, John, Michael, Nick, Pete, Sonny, and Ted, Sisters Eva, Helen, and Anna. Left to mourn his loss are his daughter Pamela Braly, son-in-law Hunt Braly and granddaughters Alexandra, and Morgan Lee, plus numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and dear friends. Jack grew up at Craven. He served in WW II overseas. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Returning from overseas he married the love of his life; Katherine. He worked for a few years at the cement plant in Regina and then be became a postal carrier in 1958 until his retirement in 1983. Jack and Katherine cherished all the wonderful summers they spent at their cabin on Mission Lake at Lebret and all the dear friends they made there over the years. Jack was a charmer with a wonderful sense of humor and wit. Singing was one of the greatest joys in his life, as well as visiting and spending time with family and friends. BLENDER - Muriel (nee Russell) passed away peacefully Wednesday May 9, 2007 at the Pasqua Hospital. Born August 13, 1922 in Regina. Predeceased by her loving husband George (2001), her parents John and Mae Russell and brother James. Muriel leaves to cherish her memory her son Gerry (Lynne) of Port Alberni, B.C., daughters Linda Williams of Saskatoon and Gloria (Jack) Smith of Balcarres, grandchildren Karen (Steve) Rathbone, David (Chelsea) Blender, Christy (Chris) Hartman, Dale (Sue) Williams, Scott Williams, Kami (Craig) Vopni, Keri (Mike) Mattern, twelve great grandchildren, sister Annie (Bea) Thorwaldson, brother Wilson (June) Russell, special friends John and Sue Langford and family. After graduating high school, Muriel attended secretarial school and worked for one year before marrying George and settling at Craven running the market garden. Muriel's greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. After retirement many winters were spent in Arizona where many dear friendships were made. Her sense of humor and quick wit will be sadly missed. On March 27th, a proud and dignified lady passed away peacefully after a brief illness with cancer. Evelyn was predeceased by her father and mother Arthur and Elsie Cooper, step brothers Maurice Booth, Maurice Cooper, Don Cooper, Reg Cooper, Arthur (Fred) Cooper, and Les Cooper. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alvin Brown on Saturday, July 18, 2015 with his family by his side, at the age of 62 years. Jean was born June 20, 1927 to Helen and James Lindsay-Ewing of Kennel district - Craven, Sask. Jean passed from this life on January 8, 2002 in Phoenix, Arizona where she managed the family business for many years. She was a remarkably hard worker, and will be remembered for her generous spirit and hospitality. Jean was predeceased by her husband Jack Dench in 1990, by her mother in 1930, her father in 1942, sisters Daisy Dunsmore in 1992 and Isabell Zerr in 1993. Jean is survived by two sons, Jon and Joel, and two grandsons, all of Phoenix; sisters Muriel Lindsay-Ewing of Regina and Mae Krogsgaard of Boston Bar, B.C.; brothers-in-law Sebastian Zerr and Borden Krogsgaard, and many nieces and nephews. DOEGE - Elizabeth (July 15, 1921 - June 3, 2012). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Doege on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by her husband Walter; her parents; one sister and four brothers. On Friday, December 1, 2006 Timothy David Eberts, late of Craven, SK passed away at the age of 46 years. He is predeceased by his mother Cecilia; mother and father-in-law Agnes and Calvin Irvin; Gordon Irvin and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Tim is survived by his wife Jeanette; children Renee, Amanda and Cody; father John(Donna Whitta); brother Ron; sister Marilyn (Tom) Wickenheiser; bothers Gordon, Leonard (Rhonda) and Johnny (Susan) and numerous nieces and nephews and his dog Hooch. Tim always put his children and family first. He enjoyed hauling heavy equipment, driving truck, spending time working on his acreage, caring for his horses and was a real cowboy. EDGINGTON - Edna (nee Tiefenbach). Edna's battle with liver cancer ended peacefully in her sleep with her son and caregiver Brian by her side. Edna was born and raised in Craven District, SK and was the eldest of four children. Predeceased by Edna is her husband Bill; son Kevin; parents Bill and Annie Tiefenbach. Left to mourn her loss are her loving sons Ken (Rose) of Winnipeg, MB, Robert of Baltimore, MD and Brian of Regina, SK; brothers Elmer (Eileen) Tiefenbach of Regina and Willy Tiefenbach of Regina; sisters Evelyn Gorius of Langley, BC. Edna was a multitalented woman, from playing guitar and singing on CKRM Radio when she was a young woman to raising and nurturing a family of four boys. Edna will be remembered and loved by all who knew her kind way and loving heart. Her loving hands prepared many good meals that were enjoyed by all. Her biggest ambition of becoming a nurse was never recognized; instead she married and poured her life into raising and maintaining a family often making personal sacrifices for the comfort and well being of her boys. A special thank you to the doctors and staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic for their kindness and understanding. At Edna's request there will be no service but a Celebration's of Edna's Life will take place at a later date. EHMAN - Gail Maureen (nee O�Hara). The family of Gail Maureen Ehman sadly announces her passing on March 28, 2016.Gail was born Nov. 10, 1939, to William (Bill) and Josephine (McNulty) O�Hara of Saskatoon. She studied at Sion Academy and the University of Saskatchewan, where she met her sweetheart, Dennis Ehman. They married on July 9, 1960, and settled on the family farm at Craik. Gail loved life on the farm. She tended large gardens, picked berries and walked on the country road in all seasons. The pantry was always full of Gail�s pickles, jams, jellies and other preserves. She was a master at making buns and saskatoon berry pie, which were served at every special family dinner. She served her community as a member of Willing Workers, the Catholic Women�s Club, Donors� Choice and numerous school and social functions. When their son Tom and his family moved to the farm, Gail and Dennis took up residence in Craik. In retirement, Gail enjoyed her �winter� friends and community in Mesa, Arizona. Above all she was devoted to her children, grandchildren and best friend, Dennis, her husband of 56 years. Gail and Dennis raised four children on the farm who, along with their spouses and children, will miss her dearly: Jim and Sherrie (Megan and Amanda), Tom and Tallie (Evan and Emily), Maureen and Tony, and Amy Jo and John. She is also survived by her sister, Peggy (Charles) Salmon of Port Colborne, Ont. Gail is predeceased by her parents and her eldest child, Michael. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph�s Roman Catholic Church in Craik at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, followed by a social in the community hall. At Gail�s request, her ashes will be spread on the farm at a later date. EK - Gordon Edward Ek, aged 78 years, of Regina, Saskatchewan passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2003. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 8th, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. in the Lee Funeral Home Chapel, 3101 Dewdney Ave., Regina, SK with Pastor Henry Murray officiating. Burial will take place in Craven Cemetery, Craven, SK at a later date. Legion rites will be conducted. Gordon was predeceased by 2 sons: Perry in infancy and Rick in 1984; and his wife, Phyllis in 1988; 2 brothers: Don and Fred. ELIASON - Helen Eileen Foster Eliason passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 16, 2011 while a resident in the Lumsden Heritage Home. She was born on the family farm seven miles north of Craven on July 23, 1928. Predeceased by her first husband Ralph Foster and second husband Donald Eliason, Helen will be lovingly remembered by her son Steven of Craven and son Peter (Sandra) Foster of Craven and their daughter Jacqueline of Calgary; sister Hilda Yablonski of Meadow Lake and will be sorely missed by her extended family and many special nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held in the Craven community at a later date. Special mention to the absolutely wonderful caregivers of the Lumsden Heritage Home as well as the Two Spirit Country Care Home for allowing Mom to live and end her life with dignity. FISHER - Eliza "Beth" Mary (nee Small). Peacefully with family by her side, Eliza "Beth" of Lumsden passed away in the early morning of December 30, 2008. Beth was born on December 6, 1922 to John and Viola Small on the family farm near Craven where she grew up. In 1946, she married Joseph Manley Fisher of the Gibbs district and together they had two sons, Warren and Jim. Beth and Manley took over the Fisher family dairy and farmed together for 29 years before retiring to Shellbrook in 1975. Beth was a woman of great commitment, strength and perseverance, dedicated first and foremost to her family. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, gardening and time with her family. Predeceased by her husband Manley in 1997 and her parents John and Viola Small, Beth's life is cherished and remembered by sons Warren (Karen) Fisher of Lumsden and Jim (Deanna) Fisher of Shellbrook, grandchildren Deanna (Dean Unruh) of Calgary, Michelle (Jim) Markatos of Regina, Darryl (Andrea) Fisher of Bulyea, Chad (Becky) Fisher of Shellbrook and Ryan (Jennifer) Fisher of Bulyea and great grandchildren Jessica, Hillary, Caroline, Emma, Cosmas, Elizabeth, Maximos, Joel, Kendra, Rhae, Gavin and Cole. GARDINER - Leonard Archibald. We announce the passing of Leonard Archibald "Len" Gardiner on 31 July 2003 in Nanaimo at the age of 77 years. Len amazed everyone with his many medical recoveries, but finally succumbed to congestive heart failure. He leaves to mourn his wife Dorothy Thomas of Nanaimo; his dog Carmen; his children Jonathan (Helma) Gardiner, Calgary; Lee Earnshaw, Belton, TX; Gerard (Jacquie) Gardiner, Saskatoon; step-children Jeff Coutts, Regina; Thelma (Antonio) Coutts, Munich; Sandra (Gordon) Bartlett, Toronto; David (Diane) Coutts, Toronto; Ron (Sheila) Coutts, Regina; Angie (Allan) Santo, Regina; Charlotte Bilinski, Regina; Rob (Denise) Bilinski, Regina; Karina Bilinski, Regina; and Paula Bilinski, Regina. In addition, Len enjoyed the company of his Grandchildren Lindy (Nick) & Ryan Earnshaw, Jessie & Caelia & Lauren Gardiner, Wilson Coutts, Renee Bartlett, Erica & Bryan Coutts, Petra & Ryan Coutts, Tia Santo, Kristie Bilinski, Tasha & Jeff Bilinski, Tara-Lynn Hack & Dustin Bilinski. Len worked as a Mechanical Engineer in England, Ireland and India before emigrating to Canada in 1965. He resided in Montreal and Glace Bay, NS before moving to Regina in 1970. He was predeceased by his first Granddaughter Terrill Earnshaw and his wife Roisin in 1981; his mother Florence Gardiner in 1982; and his cousin Ellen (Katie) Page in 1999. He remarried in 1982 to Lucille, and they spent a number of years living and working in California. They returned to Canada and settled in Craven. In 1998, Len was predeceased by Lucille. The following year, Len moved to Regina to be with Dorothy, then they relocated to Vancouver Island in 2001. Len had an enduring passion for cars, his community and, in the last few years, for writing his memoirs. His wit, practicality and sense of humour touched his family, friends, neighbours and colleagues wherever he worked and resided. A celebration of Len's life will be held at the Cathedral Neighbourhood Center, 2900-13th Ave, Regina, Come & Go from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, followed by the interment in Craven. GIENOW -Douglas Bruce, of Craven, Sask., passed away peacefully on October 15, 2014. He was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on August 19, 1944 to Ralph and Dorothy (nee Martin) Gienow. Helping family and friends was Doug's life and what he cared about most. He would always lend a helping hand. He enjoyed shuffleboard outings, keeping up his tomato patch, plowing the fields and installing flooring. Doug was happiest keeping busy. Doug lived a full life and has touched more lives than one can count. He will be forever missed by all of his family and friends. On Friday, June 6, 2008 Jacqueline Gnesner passed away at the age of 68. She is predeceased by her parents, Richard and Emma Wagner and her brother Ken. GRANDEL - Agnes Alma (nee Brandt) passed away December 18, 2009, just one day before her 92nd birthday. She was a resident of the Lumsden and District Heritage Home, formerly of Craven where she operated a store for many years. She was born December 19, 1917 to Gustav and Amalia Brandt of the Longlaketon District. Predeceased by her sisters Eleanor Young, Alvina Latimer and Dorothy Hale. GRANT - Arthur passed away after complications due to a fall on April 16, 2009 at the age of 89. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his parents Bill and Clara, siblings Margaret, Irene and Bill. He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons Lloyd (Lorna) and Garry (Susan), close companion Audrey Thorne, grandchildren Deana (Jeff) Fry, Kelly (Dana) Schwartz, Glenn (Sherry) Grant, Laurie Grant, great grandchildren Mackenzie, Ryan, Madison, Connor, Joshua, Matthew, brother-in-law Ken Orr, sisters-in-law Phyllis Grant, Edith Rannie and Lucille McAllister, Audrey's children Rod and Wendy, Richard, Gwen, Peggy and Rod and their families, numerous nieces and nephews. GRANT - William "Bill" passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at the age of 75. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Clara; sister, Irene Orr; infant sister, Margaret; and sister-in-law, Dorothy. HAMANN - Frank John passed away peacefully at the Regina Lutheran Home on July 2, 2006 at the age of 94 years. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years Frieda; son Glenn; sisters Eva Fiessel and Grace Hubick. The late Frieda Margaretta Hamann entered in the fullness of eternal life on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at the age of 87. Frieda was predeceased by her son Glenn; her parents Martin and Eugenia Leib; sisters: Minnie Brandt, Carrie Schiller, Grace Seibel, Hannah Eastman, Emma Koch and Louise Meyer; brothers Fred and Eric Leib. She came from a family of seventeen children. Frieda was born at Frankslake, SK on February 2, 1916. She was joined in marriage to Frank Hamann on November 5, 1939 at Frankslake Emmanuel Lutheran Church and they spent 63 years together. In 1989, on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary, they went on a Honeymoon to Europe the homeland of both parents, who had immigrated to Canada in the late 1800's. They farmed in the Zehner District for 38 years. In 1977 they moved to Regina due to Frank's health. Frieda kept wheat heads from the last crop they harvested when they moved to Regina. They loved the farm. They made a living, raised their family, were humble and proud of every one of their children. Frank and Frieda belonged to the Kennell Church for nine years and their four children were all baptized there. Grace Lutheran has been their home church since 1950. Frieda loved her church, and helped where she could, when she could. After Frank became a resident of Regina Lutheran Home, Frieda tried to keep him content with special treats and visits. HARDING - Elouise Barbara (nee Wagner) was born to Jacob and Eleanor (nee Catley) Wagner of Craven, Sask. on September 2, 1949. She was the second child of five. Her first eight years of school were spent in a one room school house Kennell which was a few miles from her parents farm. Then she attended Thom Collegiate in Regina for her high school years, graduating in 1968. The spring of 1969 found her working for the Army and Navy Mail Order Store in Regina. While living in Regina, she also babysat and worked as the church secretary at Central Lutheran Church. In 1972 Elouise married Robert James Grant of Punnichy, Sk. In May 1974, they had Allan Charles. The marriage didn't work out and in December 1978 she remarried Donald Edward Harding and in September 1980 they had Warren Larry. Elouise was involved in many volunteer organizations often taking a leadership position. She loved to do many kinds of hobbycraft work and made various items for the family and friends. Elouise loved to garden and through the years tried a few unusual plants. Family was important to her and she tried to keep up a family tree book so she knew who was who. Predeceased by her father Jacob in 1979. Survived by husband Don, 2 sons Allan and Warren. Mother Eleanor as well as 2 brothers: Wayne and Ray; Also 2 sisters Marlene and Florence; her mother in law Edna; brother & sister in law Lois and Don. HERMAN - Wilbert Stanley was born November 26, 1925. He passed peacefully on Monday, October 11, 2010 at Sunset Extendicare surrounded by family. Formerly of the Craven district and more recently of Regina, Wilbert was predeceased by his parents August and Lydia (Kalk), two sisters Lora and Irene, two brothers and their wives Harold and Frieda, Irvin and Phylis, a brother-in-law Jim Louis, and one son-in-law Stuart Nagel. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 57 years Vera (Becker), and his children Holly Nagel of Regina, Harley and Brenda Herman of Craven, Blair and Leslie Herman of Craven, Karen and Lyle Herman of Earl Grey, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his sister Corinne and Wilfred Dreger, sisters-in-law Ida Louis, Isabelle and John Knoblauch, and brother-in-law Myron and Valerie Becker. Wilbert successfully farmed for over 50 years in the Craven district and near Eden, Manitoba for six more years. He was one of the first importers of Murray Grey cattle to Canada, serving in the provincial and national Murray Grey associations, promoting the breed. He retired to Regina in 1989. Wilbert and Vera enjoyed travelling. They became snowbirds, going to Arizona and later to a trailer in Texas for the winter. He remained in his own home until the spring of 2010. HERRING - Brian William was born July 13, 1960 in Winnipeg, MB and passed away suddenly on December 22, 2004 at his home near Craven. Brian is predeceased by his parents Freeman and Elizabeth Herring; grandparents Inman Herring and Wilhelm (Grace) Madsen. Brian leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife Connie (Koni) and son Jordan Freeman Herring; brother Barry (Donna) their children Christopher and Elizabeth; and brother Paul; grandmother Pearl Herring; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins, Connie's family and many friends. Brian grew up in P.E.I. and later moved to the Lumsden/Craven Community. Brian and Koni created BK Metal Works, a successful welding business operating in Southern Saskatchewan. HIBBERT - Edna May Hibbert, aged 86 years of Moose Jaw, SK., passed away on Tuesday, August 21st, 2012. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Edna was born at Craven, SK., on November 18th, 1925 to parents William and Catherine Lovelock. She received her education at Craven and then later worked in Markinch, SK. as postmistress. Edna married Robert Charles Hibbert on March 17th, 1945 and together they had six children. She was employed at St. Anthony's Nursing Home in Moose Jaw from 1967 - 1990. Upon retirement, she enjoyed canvassing for numerous charities, watching hockey and golf and listening to music. One thing that Edna was very well known for was walking - she walked all over Moose Jaw, and many people often commented about seeing her walk around town. Edna will be remembered as a quiet, hard working woman with kind words for all. Predeceased by parents William and Catherine Lovelock; husband Robert Charles Hibbert; son Larry Allan Hibbert; great-grandson Chase Vance; her siblings: Cyecil Lovelock, Mary Ellen Lovelock, Dorothy Hewer, Ted Lovelock, George Thompson, Cecil Lovelock, Margaret White and Gertie Clatworthy. On Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, William Norman Hubick, late of Weyburn, passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital, at the age of 80 years. Predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Mary Hubick; one sister, Adeline Seibel, and one brother, Elmer Hubick. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary of Weyburn; one son, Ken (Carol) Hubick of Comox, BC and their children: Erin and Mark Hubick of Victoria, BC; two daughters: Joyce (Ron) Lewis of Kimberley, BC and their children: Stuart Lewis (fiancee Melinda Luneng) of Calgary, AB, Darren Lewis of Kimberley, BC; and Shirley (James) Williams of Port McNeill, BC, and her children: Janet Flegel (Brian Pohto) and Chelsea of Sointula, BC, and Joanne and Karen Flegel of Port McNeill, BC and his daughter, Karmen (Hoeard) Saunders, and their children: Brandon and Jayden of Port McNeill, BC. Wm. Norman Hubick was born June 22, 1920 at Southey. He grew up with three brothers and three sisters on the family farm north of Regina in the Craven district. He attended Ravenswood School, completing grade eight, and later completing his GED. During WWII, from 1942 to 1945 he was posted with Home Defense Force on the west coast as an anti-aircraft gunner. On September 6, 1947 Norman married Mary Hague at Grace Lutheran Church in Regina. The first 14 years of marriage they resided and worked in Regina, until 1961, when he was transferred with Sask Power Gas Division to Weyburn. He worked with Sask Power until he retired in 1982. Until his death, Norm considered Weyburn home. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Weyburn, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting in his earlier years. In his earlier years he was a hard ball player, mostly playing catcher. Later he was an avid cyclist. Norm lived on earth with all faith in God. A memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 15 at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Ron Bestvater officiating. Interment will be at a later date. JOORISITY - Phyllis Lorraine (nee Hoskins) passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 14, 2004 with family by her side at the Lumsden and District Heritage Home. Predeceased by her father and mother O'Brien and Sadie Hoskins, Phyllis is survived by her husband Lou Joorisity of Bethune; son Glen (Wendy) of Regina Beach; sister Lillian (George) Pettigrew; brothers Bill (Gail) Hoskins and Les (Darlene) Hoskins; brother-in-law Steve (Ila) Joorisity of Kipling; sister-inlaw Yvonne Topping of Regina; grandchildren, Amanda and Shane of Toronto, Glen Jr., and Nikki Joorisity of Regina Beach; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Phyllis was born at Craven on December 14, 1926. Phyllis started school in small rural schools around Lumsden. She finished her education and graduated at Lumsden High School. She embarked on a banking career with the Royal Bank at Melfort and Qu'Appelle before being transferred to Lumsden. This lasted for 22 years after which she went to Bethune Credit Union for 11 years. Phyllis loved sports, an ardent curler who went to many bonspiels, as well to all the baseball and hockey games that Lou and Glen played. Besides cooking everyday meals, she loved baking, sewing, making doll clothes, singing in the choir, skating, country music and loved dancing. She enjoyed living on the farm, gardening, loved animals, especially her constant companion, a golden cocker spaniel, Phyllis spent many hours driving grain trucks at harvest time. Phyllis was a loving wife, partner, best friend, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, always smiling and joking and willing to help anyone when needed. A private family Memorial Service will be held. Interment will be held at Lumsden Cemetery. KLYM - Michal passed away peacefully at the Regina Pioneer Village on Saturday, February 1, 2003 at the age of 88 years. Michal is predeceased by his brother John Knehinicki and sister Dora Todoruk. He is survived by his wife, Nellie; two sons: Vernon (Elizabeth) and Roy (Lois); five grandchildren: Jason, Andrea, Tyler, Dustin and Nolan; and many nieces and nephews. Michal first moved from Manitoba to the Maryfield, SK. district where he worked on a farm then went into trucking north of Craven, SK. Marie, and was raised on a farm in the Kennell District. She met Peter Koszman, and they married in 1934. Mary was a member of St. Basil's Parish and had a life membership from UCWLC. She was also a member of St. Basil's Senior Club for many years. She was a devoted worker, and loved her church. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Peter in 1987; parents, Myron and Kathryn Malowany; brothers Mike and Walter; sisters Helen, Olga and Annie; and granddaughter Kristine Koszman. McNEICE - Evelyn (nee Catley) passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the age of 93. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Hall; children, Douglas (Carolyn), Lorne (Julie) and Marilyn Totten; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn was born and raised in the Kennell district east of Craven. In November of 1939 she married Jim McNeice who had recently joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. After being posted to various locations across Canada, Jim and Evelyn settled on a farm just outside of Lumsden. In 1975 they moved into Lumsden where they lived together until Jim's passing in January, 2008; Evelyn continued to live there until December, 2008. Throughout her married life Evelyn was a tireless worker and a fastidious housekeeper. She also loved to bake and every visitor to her home was offered tea and goodies. Well into her eighties she would visit old people, many of whom were younger than she and nearly always the visits involved a gift of baking. Evelyn was also a talented amateur artist and needle worker. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Evelyn spoiled everyone who was close to her with lots of good food, attention and love. If there was ever a crisis, she was the first one there offering help and support. Evelyn's strength, sharp wit and sense of humour helped her through many tough times. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten by all those who knew and loved her. PRIOR - Elsie Ada (nee Twells) June 20, 1919 - January 2, 2012. Elsie Ada (Twells) Prior was born June 20, 1919 to John Edward (Ted) Twells and Elizabeth (Newton); on the farm at Craven, Sask.. In 1935 they moved to the farm in the Brookside District along the Pipestone near Wapella. Elsie died January 2, 2012 at Wolseley, SK. She was predeceased by her husband Gilbert Prior; her sisters: Florence, Georgina and Doris; her brothers: Cyril, Bill and Russell; several brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and one son-in-law. She leaves five daughters to mourn her passing: Melnie (Gerald) Beattie, Alice (Donald) Cox, Lori (Ronald) Thompson, Dot (John) Bishop and Lynette Terrill; fourteen grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; sisters Ivy and Christina; brother Alfred; three sisters-in-law, one brother-inlaw and four sons-in-law. During her lifetime Mom lived in about 30 locations, leaving many good friends and aquaintences behind her. She was active in several United and Presbyterian Churches on her route. She was active in 4 H at Langbank, Kinsmen in Tswassin, B.C., the Hospital Auxillary and the Thrift Store in Ladner, B.C., the Lioness Club in Qu'Appelle and several Seniors Groups from Sask. to the B.C. coast. She was a young Air Force wife and an accomplished farm wife. She and dad owned and operated a lake resort at Canal Flats, B.C. and a private seniors home in Creston, B.C. One of Mom's crowning achievements was the formation and management of the beginnings of Home Care and Meals on Wheels in the Indian Head, Qu'Appelle, Montmartre and Odessa areas. She received an award from the Government for the endeavor. Over the years she has knit hundreds of toques, mittens, scarves, lap rugs and afgans for needy children, relatives and friends from east to west coast. She often handed out toques and scarves on Halloween and knitted for Angels for Warmth. One of moms claims to fame was that she was a distant relative to Orson Wells and a first cousin to Ian Tyson. Mom left a wide path on her lifes journey. She was a fiesty lady strong in her views and determined in her actions. We, her family, believe she is now rearranging heaven, coordinating the choirs and in her spare time she will be crocheting slippers for the angels bare feet. A public graveside service will be held in the Indian Head Cemetery, on Monday, July 2, 2012 with public notices announcing the time at a later date. RAMSBOTTOM - Inez Marea of Westbank, BC died July 30, 2002 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Inez was born in Craven, Saskatchewan on April 26, 1925 and raised in Silton. After grade 12 she moved to Toronto to help with the war and later returned to Regina where she married Eric Cleal. She was employed at Sherwood Co-op and later at the Unemployment Insurance Commission where she retired in 1981 after 19 years of service. After marriage to Gene Ramsbottom, they became actively involved in square dancing and made many friends. Her retirement years were spent in Westbank, BC where she enjoyed gardening, crafts, and long walks along the shore of Lake Okanogan. She loved letters and visits from her Saskatchewan friends and her family. She especially loved visits with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Gene Ramsbottom, her son Marvin (Evelyn) Cleal, grandchildren, Allison and Brent Cleal, stepsons Gene (Maureen) Ramsbottom and Neil (Manuela) Ramsbottom, grandchildren Daniel, Kristine, Connor and Bennedict. "Rollie", passed away at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on Sunday, February 3, 2002, at the age of 80. ROLLINS - Louisa Tallis (nee MacNab), passed away at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on Friday, 17 February 2006 at the age of 82 years. Predeceased by her parents, William and Ann MacNab, and her husband of fifty-three years, Irvine M. (Rollie) Rollins. Louisa is survived by her son, James and his wife Susan (nee Pasterfield), and three grandchildren, Mark, Simon (grandsons) and Tallis (granddaughter). Louisa was born 22 January 1924 in Fifeshire, Scotland. She served in the W.A.A.F. during World War II. After the war, Louisa moved to Canada and married Rollie in 1948. Louisa worked for the Government of Saskatchewan from 1952 to 1982 in the Civil Defence/Emergency Measures Department. After her retirement in 1982, Louisa and Rollie moved to an acreage outside of Craven, Saskatchewan. It is to her good neighbours and friends of Craven that the family of Louisa wishes to extend their love and appreciation for all that they have done for her over the years, especially since the passing of Rollie in 2002. SCHMIDT - Clarence Emil of RR#2 Craven passed away on November 5, 2001 at the age of 62 years. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Gloria, three sons Kevin (Linda LeGard), David and Glen (Carrie Laturnas), three daughters Kathy, Nancy (Jeff) Webb and Marlene (Ray) Benjamin, grandchildren Rachel and Hadyn Webb, Shelly and Jennifer LeGard, his mother Alma and family. SHIELS - Hilda May (nee Kerley) passed away peacefully at her home in Pioneer Village, Regina. She was predeceased on December 27, 2007 by Leonard, her husband of sixty-eight years; her parents, William and Clara Kerley, and by three sisters, Lillian Kerley, Irene Lazaruk, and Eva McDougall. Hilda is survived by sisters Mary Stewart, Surrey, BC and Rose Vogle, New Westminster, BC, son Tom Shiels of Burlington, ON; daughter Irene (Gary Tronnes) Linzmayer, Red Deer, AB; son Carl (Margaret) Shiels of Regina, SK; nine grand children; 13 great grand children and many members of her extended family. Hilda was born on March 21, 1913 on a farm near Herbert, SK. Following years of drought, the family moved to a farm south of Earl Grey, SK where Hilda attended Burnside School. During the 1930's, Hilda worked as a domestic in her home community, in Regina and finally in Vancouver. In April of 1939 she returned to Regina to marry Leonard and start her family. In 1944 they moved to a farm of their own north of Craven and remained there until they moved to Regina Village in 1997. As Hilda's physical health deteriorated, she moved to Pioneer Village where she could maintain close, regular contact with her husband. Soon after Leonard's death, Hilda began to lose her remaining will to live and passed away on Friday April 11, 2008. Hilda will be remembered for her enthusiasm for gardening. In the 1950's she began to develop her huge yard with lawns, shrubs, fruit trees and vast beds of flowers. This early start gave her a substantial advantage in local horticultural competitions. It was also a labour of love which she joyously shared with all who came to visit. In later years, this included bus loads of seniors who came from Regina and elsewhere for peaceful picnics. A celebration of Hilda's life will be held later in the summer when the grass is green and the flowers are in full bloom SHIELS - Leonard Albert, "pegged out" at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on December 27, 2007 with his family at his side. He was born on January 25, 1910 in Craven SK. Leonard is survived by Hilda, his wife of 68 years; son Tom Shiels of Burlington, ON; daughter Irene (Gary Tronnes) Linzmayer, Red Deer, AB; son Carl (Margaret) Shiels of Regina, SK; nine grand children; 13 great-grand children and many members of his extended family. Leonard is also predeceased by three brothers and one sister. Leonard attended the Burnside School and then farmed north of Craven until his retirement to Regina Village in 1997. He married Hilda May Kerley on April 4, 1939. Leonard will be best remembered as a formidable cribbage opponent and for publishing From Buffalo Grass to Wheat A History of Long Lake District in 1980. Fittingly, he was one of the last surviving children of the pioneers that are documented in his book. Leonard had lived independently until entering hospital on December 3 for what was expected to be a simple day procedure, but subsequently passed away due to complications leading to pneumonia. Leonard requested that there be no memorial service. After 97 years, he had probably attended far too many funerals and wasn't particularly keen on going to another one. SMALL William J. 'Bill'. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William J. Small on Thursday, November 18th, 2010 his 83rd birthday. Bill passed away peacefully with family at his side at the Regina General Hospital. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife and partner of 59 years, Agnes. Bill was born on the farm North of Craven. After graduating from the School of Agriculture, Saskatoon, in 1948, he returned to the farm. In 1951 he married his childhood sweetheart and began farming, growing grain and raising Shorthorn cattle. Bill spent many years involved in 4H, through leadership and judging. In 1972 they purchased their first Simmental, gradually increasing their herd. Bill loved showing and judging cattle. He volunteered in many organizations, but his biggest love and achievement was being associated with Canadian Western Agribition, Canadian and Sask. Simmental Association and Regina Exhibition. In 1979 Bill and Agnes moved back to the valley, near Craven, where they eventually retired. During those years they enjoyed spending time with family, travelling and gardening. In 2007 they moved to Regina where they have resided since. We would like to thank the staff of the renal unit at the Regina General Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Bill during the last few months of his life. SMITH - Myrtle (nee Wenaus), late of Craven, SK passed away peacefully on May 15, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband Odie in 1977. THOMPSON - Shirley Catherine (nee Tone), passed away peacefully with her family and pets at her side on Thursday, October 10, 2002, at her home in Craven, SK. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Paddy and partner Michael; sister Marlene; numerous family and friends. Shirley will be sadly missed by all who knew her. THOMSON - Ralph Gordon, age 80, of Craven, SK passed away peacefully at Pasqua Hospital on February 17, 2005. Ralph was born and raised in Springwater, SK, finished schooling in Saskatoon before joining the RCAF in which he served eleven years and is a life member of the Lumsden Legion. His love for growing vegetables and flowers started up Qu'Appelle Gardens, lasting twenty-six years until retirement. Ralph was predeceased by an infant daughter; father Dan; mother Alice (Cowan); and brothers-in-law Jock MacDonald, Jack and Marshall Young; sister-in-law Mabel Young. Left to mourn is his wife of 46 years, Marilyn (Young); daughter Marral Eberts; son Barry (Nancy); also sons Larry (Kathy), Richard (Betty), Chris and their mother Ruth; grandchildren Mathew, Natalie, Rianne, Richelle and Nicholas. After completing her education in Gull Lake she lived and worked in Calgary for several years. Upon moving to Regina in 1954, she met Ron and they were married on July 12, 1956. In 1967 they moved to Tanglewood Farm where they raised their family. She resided there until her passing. WARD - Elizabeth, age 81, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2007 in Regina, SK. Affectionately known by family and friends as "Bess or Beth" she is survived by her grandchildren Sean (Claire) Ledingham (their children Brodie, Adam, Ashton and Sidney); Anthony Ledingham and Mathieu Faubert; siblings Paul (Bev) Chernick, Gertrude Bircher and Nora Chavich and friend Ken Ward. She is also survived by numerous treasured cousins, nieces, nephews, their families and foster daughter Rosa (Gary) Bridge. She was predeceased by her daughter Kathleen; her parents Anthony (Mary Ellen) Chernick and her sister Mildred Ward. Beth was born at Regina General Hospital and raised in Craven. She joined the army, married Ken Ward and they had one daughter. Beth had a huge heart and an undying devotion for her beloved daughter, her grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately called her Nana. Beth appreciated art, loved to read and had a sharp mind. She proudly completed her post secondary education. True to her social work profession, Beth empathized with, advocated for and supported the under privileged. During her energetic life she touched many lives. For many Beth was a mentor, a mothering influence, an auntie and caring and true friend. Her humour was ever young; she had a flair for fashion and a firey personality. Beth will be sadly missed by her loved ones and loyal friends. A special thank you to Wascana Grace Hospice, nurses, doctors, lay ministers, priest, family and friends that spent time providing emotional and spiritual support and care to ensure Beth was looked after during her courageous and dignified struggle with cancer. WHITE - Margaret Irene (nee Lovelock) passed away peacefully from this life on October 11, 2003 in Regina at Santa Maria Senior Citizen's Home; where she had lived for the past year and a half. She was born on April 19, 1924 at Silton, Saskatchewan and was raised in the Craven area. She knew the value of hard work early in life, as she lost her father when she was only one year old. She loved the hills of Craven and spent many happy times playing with her brothers, sisters and friends there. Margaret married John White on April 12, 1944 and they were blessed with three sons and six daughters. They farmed a mile west of Dysart, SK. Margaret worked hard in those years of raising children and working on the farm. Her children remember coming home from school to the smell of freshly baked bread. She baked 8 or 9 loaves every other day in those years. Margaret moved to Regina with her husband in September 1972, where she worked housekeeping at Wascana Rehab Centre for 11 years. They both retired to Carrot River in October 1986. Margaret was actively involved in her church and taught Sunday School and worked on the library and flower committees. She loved to entertain and had a steady flow of visitors to their home. Margaret's passion was her family. Her happiest days were when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Margaret was predeceased by her husband John in 1999; father William Lovelock in 1925, mother Catherine Lovelock in 1991, sister Dorothy Hewer in 1963, brothers George in 1983 and Cecil in 1998; sons-in-law Remie DeRoose in 1987, Jack Wilcox in 1990 and granddaughter Angela Frank in 1994. It is with sadness that we announce that our mother and grandmother went to be with our Lord December 13, 2001. Mom was born in Montreal, Quebec on July 17, 1913. She was predeceased by her husband, Sydney E. Winget, in 1966, her parents, Bridget and Archibald White, her brother "Red" White, sisters Viola Galipeau and Hazel Porter. She is survived by her brother, Jack White. Ben passed away peacefully at Regina General Hospital on April 23, 2008 at the age of 90. He was predeceased by brothers Tegart, Elmer, Harry and Charlie and sister Mary. Ben farmed with his wife Marjorie near Craven. They retired into Lumsden in 1984. He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie, daughter Christine (Larry), sons Ron (Val), Barry (Suann), Norman and his grandchildren Shauna, Michael and Nicholas. Ben was a veteran of World War II. He served with the Royal Regina Rifles landing at Normandy on "D" day. He was wounded on two separate occasions. Ben was recently recognized as the oldest living past member of the 4-H in Saskatchewan. ZUBER - James Zuber passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Jim farmed in the Craven area, on a farm homesteaded by his parents, for over 50 years. He enjoyed his retirement at the Bentley in Regina. Jim will be deeply missed by his brothers, Harvey, Gordon (Ann), Bill (Sharon); nieces and nephews, Debbie (Mike), Cheryl (Garth), Lori (Doug), Brent, Dean and Nicole; their children, Jeff, Pam and Meagen Armstead and Alex and Zack Cwyner.
