Murrille Schofield returns from WWII to Mother

This photo is especially meaningful. Mamie Maude’s husband and Murrille’s Father, died in WWI. She was a widow at age 27. So it must have meant so much more to have her only son return home safely from WWII.

The photo is marked: Photo by CLAMP. On the reverse, handwritten: "shown here is Sgt. M. E. Schofield, Wolfville, being greeted by his Mother as he arrives via Wagner Tours Saturday afternoon. Over three hundred people were at the bus stop to welcome the five boys expected to return by buses, and the High School Cadet Band was in attendance. Although only three of the veterans arrived at the scheduled stopping place, two others arrived at other points in town. Nine veterans returned during the day. This was the first public welcome staged for Wolfville veterans."
