Joseph Tarpley Burt was married to his second cousin (once-removed) [6], Amanda Arnold Marshall [3]. Amanda Marshall was born about 1825 in Georgia [4], a daughter of William Blount Marshall [7] and Martha D. Turner [5]. She was first married to Elisha Fletcher Hurt [5], by whom she had a son, William H. Hurt [5], born about 1845 in Alabama [4].

Shortly thereafter, they were said to have moved to Macon County, Alabama [3].

Joseph Tarpley Burt died 6 Jun 1880 in Opelika, Lee Co., Alabama [1]. Amanda Arnold Marshall died between 20 September 1880, when her will was written, and 18 Oct 1880, when it was recorded, in Lee Co., Alabama [7].
