WALKER, Jack Thompson

Jack Thompson Walker, Jr. 53, passed away on August 27, 2005. Jack was born to Jack Thompson and Pauline Walker in Phoenix Arizona. He participated in 4-H and FFA while growing up in Arizona. He was a member of the Alfa Gamma Rho Fraternity and an active member of the Tempe JCs. Jack attended Arizona State University earning a Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Agri/Business. He devoted his career to the industry he grew up in, Agriculture. His specialty was cotton which lead him to work for Anderson Clayton, Chickasha Cotton Oil Company. Jack is survived by his Wife Cindy, Daughter Morgan and two sons Jeremy and Justin his Mother Pauline and four brothers Bill, Lee, Jim and Don. A Memorial Service was held at the Green Acres Mortuary 401 N. Hayden Rd. Scottsdale Az. Family suggests donations in Jack's name to Tempe Boys & Girls Club, 715 W. 5th St. Tempe AZ 85281. Barbara "Barbie" Borah Walter, age 57, born & raised in Phoenix, AZ died in San Diego, CA June 12, 1998. WEBB, Del E. 1899-1974

Developer, Sun City
Del Webb is credited with starting a new chapter in housing -- the retirement community. He started working with lumber as a hobby in California, moving to Phoenix in 1927, where he started the Del Webb Co. His construction contracts included an addition to the Arizona State Capitol, the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, expanding Howard Hughes' aircraft facilities in California and constructing Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1962. In 1945, with partner Al Topping, Webb bought the New York Yankees. In 1960, Webb started Sun City, northwest of Phoenix, the first of many to follow across the country.

WEIR, Elaine Laura

Elain Laura Weir, 88, of Mesa, a teacher, died July 7, 1998. She was born in Westfield, Wisconsin. WHALEY, Margaret

Sun City -- Services for Margaret "Peg" WHALEY, 60, a member of the Amateur Athletic Union, Womens Gold Association and Pi Beta Phi Sorority of Iowa State University, were in All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church, Burns and Hutton drives. Mrs. WHALEY, 9307 Garnette Drive, died July 3, 1979, in Boswell Hospital. She is survived by husband, Roy H.; daughters, Pamela ANSHURZ and Patricia LANDIS; three grandchildren and a sister. WIGHT, Muriel Pearl

Anchorage resident Muriel Pearl Wight, 68, died Oct. 26, 2008, at home while surrounded by her family. A praise service was Sunday at University Baptist Church, 4313 Wright St. Muriel was born Nov. 2, 1939, in Quick City, Mo., to Henrietta M. Clark and Donald K. Hixon. She graduated from Yuma Union High School in Yuma, Ariz., in 1957. Muriel attended Grand Canyon College in Phoenix, Ariz., and received a bachelor of science degree in 1961. She earned a master's degree in education from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1985. Muriel was introduced to her husband, Richard, while she was in college (he was in the Navy). They were married in 1961. Their daughter, Debbie, was born in 1962 in Grand Junction, Colo. Their son, Steven, was born in 1967 in Moab, Utah. The family moved to Sitka in 1969 and to Anchorage in 1971. Muriel taught math at East Anchorage High School for 20 years, retiring in 1994. She and Richard were active with their church family at University Baptist Church. They traveled many times for missionary works and became very fond of their friends at the Baptist mission in Vladivostok, Russia. "Muriel was a wonderful woman, whose kindness and thoughtfulness made a lasting impression every day on those around her," her family wrote. "She will be greatly missed." She is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter and son-in-law, Debbi and Geff Travis of Anchorage; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Connie Wight of Peters Creek; and grandchildren, Dana Travis of Wasilla and Greg Travis of Anchorage. She was preceded in death by her parents and only sister. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Russian Baptist Mission Program through University Baptist Church in Anchorage. WILLIAMS, Robert Lloyd

Robert Lloyd Williams, 86, died Monday October 3, 2005 in Tempe. He was born in Tempe on August 14, 1919, the youngest of seven children, to Josiah and Alice Kathryn (Holmsley) Williams. He graduated from Tempe High School and attended Arizona Teachers College (now Arizona State University) studying architectural drawing and engineering. Lloyd married Genevieve Adams, his soul mate, on September 25, 1940. He worked briefly for mining company in Globe, AZ and then as a draftsman. He then worked as a clerk for the Salt River Power Co. before being drafted into the service in World War II. After a medical discharge Lloyd began what was to be a long and successful career as a building contractor. He formed 'Williams & Wells' which eventually became 'Williams & Sons' and built homes, apartments, churches and office complexes. He served for several years on the Tempe Zoning Board and over saw the early development of Tempe. Lloyd was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served very faithfully for many years. He and Genevieve were sealed for time and all eternity in 1957. He is pre-deceased by one son Randy Gail and his beloved wife Genevieve who died June 28, 2005. He is survived by two sons Ted and Robert Lloyd of Tempe; a daughter Janny Cardwell of Tempe and a daughter Barbara Horrocks of Woodland Hills, Utah. He had 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grand-children. Lloyd was cherished by his family for his wisdom and guidance through out their lives. He will be greatly missed. Services were held at the LDS 1st Ward, 1221 W. Howe St; Tempe. Burial in East Resthaven Cemetery. The Arizona Republic on 10/6/2005.

WINTON, George Philip

George Philip Winton, 64, of Casa Grande, a retired equipment operator, died June 27, 1998. He was born in Spokane, Washington, and was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Vivian; daughters, Mollie FORD, Bobbie BATES, Traci RINER, Jennie BAILEY and Carol; son, George Jr.; sister, Marylou CHANCE; and seven grandchildren. WONG, Jean

Jean Wong, 49, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2006, in Phoenix. Born and raised in Phoenix, Jean attended Ann Ott and Barcelona Elementary Schools, later graduating from Alhambra High School. Jean's interest in commercial art led her to a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design from Arizona State University in 1979. Later, she caught the entrepreneurial bug and established her own firm, 226 Design. Business flourished and a reputation was built. She served her community including working with Soroptimist International and the Flinn Foundation. Music and adventure were Jean's hobbies. She was a classical pianist and took great interest in live concert performances including jazz as well as music of the 60's and 70's. She made many friends in the music community and conducted interviews of famous artists from that era. Adventure was her middle name. She skydived, drove through France on her own and hiked in Kauai. Jean is survived by her mother, Mrs. Ngok MOON (Choi Youn YEE) WONG; siblings, Suzie KWAN (Andrew), Mary LUM (Bill), Doris WONG, Barry WONG and Harry WONG; and nieces and nephews, Christie KWAN, Clifford KWAN, Dina KWAN, Russell LUM and Jennifer Lum. WOTHKE, Charles A.

Graduate of Arizona State University, Charles A. (Chuck) Wothke, 78, of Waianae, formerly of Monroe, died July 13, 2006, at Queen's Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. Services were held July 30 at Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary, Waipahu. Burial was in National Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu. Born Dec. 18, 1927, in Monroe, he was the son of Al and Agnes WOTHKE. He married Debbiane WHITING on Aug. 26, 1951. He was a Lutheran minister until retiring. The Rev. WOTHKE served in the Army until 1957, attaining the rank of second lieutenant.
A 1945 graduate of Monroe High School, he earned a degree in applied business management from Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona, in 1953, and a master's degree in theology from Pacific Theological Seminary, Berkeley, California, in 1963. He founded Waianae Coast Comprehensive Medical Center and was a member of numerous community organizations. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church and School, Monroe, and enjoyed golfing. Surviving are his wife, Debbiane; a daughter, Teresa SARNO of Waianae; a brother, William (Sherry) of Asheville, N.C., and a grandson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria, on Oct. 22, 1970. Memorials may be made to Maluhia Lutheran Church of Waianae or to the American Cancer Society. WRIGHT, Seth

Ambushed by Apaches December 1, 1885 in Gila Valley while looking for horses. Seth WRIGHT was shot from his horse. His brother immediately dismounted and opened fire upon the Indians. Lorenzo's arm was broken by a bullet, and then, while he was running, he was shot in the back.
