Another name for Louis was The Saint. General Notes: Louis was canonized 27 years after his death. During his reign he went on two crusades, collected and preserved sacred relics from the holy lands, and gave lavishly to the poor and needy from the royal treasury. Louis became king at age 12, and his mother ruled the kingdom as regent for his first 8 years. He married at age 20, and he and Margaret had 11 children.
