bullet  General Notes:

Occupation: Labourer, paper mill (1871); paper mill worker
He may have been married to Frances Gordon at some point before. 1838,
because their child together is not recorded as illegitimate.
However, a search of the Scottish records did not turn up a marriage
certificate for them, and another possible child for them, Robert
Gordon, was known by his mother's maiden name
As of 1871 census, James had a housekeeper in his household, a widow
named Isabella McKenzie, 52, a native of Inverness. His place of
residence on that census is 29 Bankhead [Road], a three-room
domicile.
Source comments, "James has signed [his wife's] death certificate in
a very accomplished hand. It looks to me like that of someone who is
used to writing and then you wonder--as his signature is some sort of
indication of his level of education--whether he held a more
important role in the paper mill than the job title suggests."
Address at time of death was 12 Belfield Terrace, Stoneywood,
Newhills.

bullet  Death Notes:

Time of death was 10:20 pm, duration of illness was 6 months, and
