Mary Stowers Yelton married Alonzo C. Taylor, son of Elijah Taylor and Isabella Yelton, on 1 October 1884 Covington, Kentucky.^5,2 Mary A. Taylor, age 36 was listed as the wife of Alonzo C. Taylor, age 46 in the 1900 Census of Jamestown, Greene County, Ohio.² Mary S. Taylor, age 45 was listed as the head of a household in the 1910 Census of Jamestown, Greene County, Ohio. The household also included her sons, Arthur C. Taylor, age 25 and Mason E. Taylor, age 18, her daughters, Mary T. Taylor, age 20 and Mildred Taylor, age 16, her mother, Ann Yelton, age 75. Mary Taylor has borne 5 children, 4 of whom are living. Ann Yelton has borne 7 children, 3 of whom are living.⁶ Mary Taylor, age 56 was listed as the mother-in-law of C. H. Burus, age 39 in the 1920 Census of Canton, Stark County, Ohio.⁷ Mary Stowers Yelton died on 23 March 1955 in Jamestown, Ohio.³

Taylor, age 25 was listed as a son of Mary S. Taylor, age 45 in the 1910 Census of Jamestown, Greene County, Ohio.³

Arthur Clyde Taylor married Ella Lubis.² In 1920 Arthur Clyde Taylor was the proprietor of a print shop.⁴ Arthur C. Taylor, age 34 appears in the 1920 Census of Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona in the household of his wife's parents, George and Marguerite Lubis.⁴ He died on 27 December 1937 at Phoenix, Arizona.²

     Mason E. Taylor Sr. was born on 11 December 1891 in Jamestown, Ohio.² He was listed as a son of Alonzo C. Taylor, age 46 in the 1900 Census of Jamestown, Greene County, Ohio.¹ Mason E. Taylor, age 18 was listed as a son of Mary S. Taylor, age 45 in the 1910 Census of Jamestown, Greene County, Ohio.³ In 1917 Mason E. Taylor Sr. was a newspaperman, working for the Associated Press.² Mason registered for the World War I draft on 5 June 1917 in Chicago, Illinois.²

Mason E. Taylor Sr. married Hazel Ide on 15 June 1919.⁴ In 1920 Mason E. Taylor Sr. was working for a newspaper.⁵ He was listed as the head of a household in the 1920 Census of St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota. The family included his wife, Hazel Taylor, age 24.⁵ In 1930 Mason E. Taylor Sr. was a publicity man.⁶ He was listed as the head of a household in the 1930 Census of Downer's Grove, DuPage County, Illinois. The household also included his wife, Hazel D. Taylor, age 34, his sons, Mason E. Taylor, Jr., age 9 and Arthur G. Taylor, age 6, his daughter, Shirley M. Taylor, age 8.⁶ At the time of his death, Mason E. Taylor Sr. resided at in Appleton, Outagamie County, Wisconsin.⁷ He died in July 1973.⁷

     Hazel Ide was born circa 1896 in Michigan.¹

     Elias Gerrard was born on 8 December 1827 in Rush County, Indiana.

The census indicates that Robert and Jenetta were married within the census year.² Robert Yelton, age 32 was recorded as the head of a household in the 1860 Census of Jasper County, Illinois. Also living in the household were Jennetta Yelton, age 30, William J. Yelton, age 9, Mary S. Yelton, age 9, John S. Yelton, age 6, Cornelia C. Yelton, age 3, Amelia A. Yelton, age 3, Sarah E. Yelton, age 1 and Catherine Yelton, age 66. Robert reported owning real estate worth The census enumerator noted that Amelia and Cornelia were twins.⁸ He appeared as the head of a household in the 1870 Census of Cumberland County, Illinois. Also living in the household were Jennetta Yelton, age 42, William Yelton, age 19, Mary S. Yelton, age 17, John Yelton, age 15, Amelia A. Yelton, age 13, Cornelia C. Yelton, age 13, Charles Yelton, age 4 and John Ward, age 12. Robert reported owning real estate worth $5000 and personal property worth $1700. John Ward is Robert's nephew, the son of his sister Amelia.⁹ He was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1880 Census of Cumberland County, Illinois. The family included his wife, Jane Yelton, age 51, his sons, Charles Yelton, age 14 and Grant Yelton, age 8, his daughters, Amelia Yelton, age 22 and Catherine Yelton, age 22. Oddly, no relationship to the head of household is stated for anyone in this census, although the information is provided for other families on the same page.¹⁰
     Robert Yelton, age 73 was listed as the head of household in the 1900 Census of Cumberland County, Illinois. Also living in the house were his wife, Jannetta Yelton, age 71. Janetta has borne eleven children, seven of whom are living. Robert states in this census that his father was born in South Carolina and hs mother in Pennsylvania.⁴ Counties of Cumberland, Jasper, and Richland, Illinois, a local history published in 1884 gives the following children of Robert and Jeanetta: Elias (deceased), Mahala, Jeannette, Jacob (deceased), Alexander (deceased), Susan (now Mrs. Toney), John (deceased), Hannah (now Mrs. Stevens).

This list does not correspond to any other available information about this family (or any other Yelton family known to us). However, it does resemble closely the family of John and Mary Gerard as shown in the 1850 Census of Shelby County, Indiana. John and Mary Gerard were the parents of Robert Yelton's wife. Robert Yelton died on 1 July 1907.³ He was buried in Hazel Dell Cemetery (North), Hazel Dell, Cumberland County, Illinois.³

     Amelia Yelton was born in 1834 in Shelby County, Indiana.¹ She is probably included in the household of Catherine Yelton in the 1840 Census of Shelby County, Indiana.³

Amelia Yelton married John Ward on 7 May 1854 in Jasper County, Illinois.⁴ Milly Ward, age 24 was living in the household of John Ward, age 33, in the 1860 Census of Jasper County, Illinois.⁵ Amelia Ward, age 33 was listed as the head of a household in the 1870 Census of Jasper County, Illinois. Also living in the household were James O. Ward, age 11, Nancy Ward, age 10 and John R. Ward, age 5. Amelia reported owning no real estate and no personal property. Also living in the household is 18 year old Alfred Plunket, a farm laborer. Millie and her children are immediately adjacent to her brother Charles and his family in this census. This census clearly lists John R. Ward, age 5, between Nancy, age 10, and James O, age 11.⁶

Amelia Yelton married Jacob Gerrard between 1870 and 1880.⁷ Amelia Gerrard, age 45 was listed as the head of a household in the 1880 Census of Vermilion County, Illinois. The family included her sons, John R. Ward, age 23 and James O. Ward, age 15. The household also includes Amelia's stepchildren, Hannah Gerrard, age 14, Elzora Gerrard, age 19, and Jacob Gerrard, age 12.⁷ Amelia Yelton died on 27 December 1909 at Casey, Clark County, Illinois.¹ She died on 28 December 1909 Casey, Illinois. She was buried in Hazel Dell Cemetery, Hazel Dell, Cumberland County, Illinois. Her tombstone is somewhat unusual in that it lists her as Amelia C. Yelton, then list her two husbands in a different style of lettering, with their names below and to the right of hers.

     John Ward was the son of John & Elizabeth Ward. He was born circa 1827 in Kentucky.¹

John Ward married Amelia Yelton, daughter of Robert J. Yelton , Sr. and Catherine Castator, on 7 May 1854 in Jasper County, Illinois.² John Ward, age 33 was recorded as the head of a household in the 1860 Census of Jasper County, Illinois. Also living in the household were Milly Ward, age 24, John R. Ward, age 3 and Sarah Ward, age 1. John reported owning real estate worth $1500 and personal property worth $100.¹ He died on 17 December 1865 Illinois.³

     John Robert Yelton was born in February 1850 in Shelby County, Indiana.² He was living in the household of Chas Yelton, age 27, in the 1850 Census of Shelby County, Indiana.³ John R. Yelton, age 10 was living in the household of Charles Yelton, age 39, in the 1860 Census of Jasper County, Illinois.⁴ John R. Yelton, age 21 was living in the household of Charles A. Yelton, in the 1870 Census of Jasper County, Illinois.⁵ John Yelton, age 30, was listed as a son of Charles Yelton, age 58, in the 1880 Census of Jasper County, Illinois.⁶

John Robert Yelton married Mollie E. Curl on 3 December 1880 in Jasper County, Illinois.⁷ John Robert Yelton died on 4 January 1929 in Crooked Creek Township, Jasper County, Illinois.^8,9 He was buried in Hazel Dell Cemetery (North), Hazel Dell, Cumberland County, Illinois.⁹

     Mollie E. Curl was born in 1862.¹

Mollie E. Curl married John Robert Yelton, son of Charles A. Yelton and Mary Ann Shyrock, on 3 December 1880 in Jasper County, Illinois.² Mollie E. Curl died in 1902.¹ She was buried in Hazel Dell Cemetery (North), Hazel Dell, Cumberland County, Illinois.¹

     Charley D. Yelton died on 22 July 1889. He was buried in Hazel Dell Cemetery (North), Hazel Dell, Cumberland County, Illinois.¹

     Fletcher Yelton was born on 25 February 1897.¹ He died on 9 July 1897. He was buried in Hazel Dell Cemetery (North), Hazel Dell, Cumberland County, Illinois.²

     James Garrett Yelton was born circa 1851 in Indiana.² He was living in the household of Charles Yelton, age 39, in the 1860 Census of Jasper County, Illinois.³ James Yelton, age 19 was living in the household of Charles A. Yelton, in the 1870 Census of Jasper County, Illinois.²

James Garrett Yelton married Clarinda M. Perisho on 28 February 1872 in Jasper County, Illinois.⁴ James Yelton, age 29 was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1880 Census of Jasper County, Illinois. The family included his wife, Clarinda Yelton, age 27, his daughters, Winnie Yelton, age 7 and Lenna Yelton, age 3.⁵ James Garrett Yelton died on 21 September 1908 in Mt. Auburn, Kentucky.⁶
