It is likely that these individuals were, in addition to Polly, her daughters, Mary Matilda Yelton and Caroline Yelton. The two older women and the one 15-20 are unidentified. The household is immediately adjacent to that of Polly's sister, Nancy, and her husband, William Yelton.¹

Robert Taylor married Fanny Yelton, daughter of Charles Yelton and Amelia Ellis, on 16 February 1809 in Pendleton County, Kentucky.^2,3 Robert survived the death of his wife, Fanny Yelton, on 11 August 1821.⁴ Robert Taylor was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1830 Census of Pendleton County, Kentucky. The household consisted of 1 male 70-80, 1 female 50-60, 1 female 15-20, 2 males 15-20, 1 female 10-15, 3 males 10-15. It is likely that these individuals were, in addition to Robert, his sons, James Taylor, Ferdinand Taylor, John Taylor, Robert Taylor and Anthony W. Taylor, his daughters, Nancy Ann Taylor and Matilda Amelia Taylor. The older female in the household could easily be a daughter of Robert's by his first marriage, but that's just a guess. It is likely that these individuals were, in addition to David, his son, Robert Yelton, his daughter, Mary E. Yelton. The next household listed is that of Mary Henry, age 60-70. This could be Eliza's mother. That household includes 2 other adult females. If he had family available to help care for the children, that might explain why David didn't remarry until 1850.⁶

This census does not state that David and Malinda were married withn the year, although the marriage records show that they were. Also, this census quite clearly states that David was born in Vermont.⁷

David Yelton married Mary A. Baker on 16 June 1868 Indiana.⁸ David Yelton, age 58 appeared as the head of a household in the 1870 Census of Fulton County, Indiana. Also living in the household was Mary A. Yelton, age 44. David reported owning real estate worth $2000 and personal property worth $479. Also living in the household are five of Mary's children by her prior marriage. The census states that David can neither read nor write.⁹ He was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1880 Census of Fulton County, Indiana. The family included his wife, Mary Yelton, age 58. This census states that both of David's parents were born in North Carolina. He was unable to read or write. The census also appears to indicate that he was deaf and dumb, although the entry is blurred. Since no such disability is shown in earlier censuses, if it existed it was probably deafness due to aging.²

     Isabella Yelton was born on 7 February 1812 in Pendleton County, Kentucky.³ She is probably included in the household of William C. Yelton in the 1820 Census of Pendleton County, Kentucky.⁴

Robert M. YELTON, age 88, one of the oldest pioneer residents of Fulton county, died at 11
o’clock Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. C. Walpe, in Peru. He had lived
with his daughter in that city for 18 years. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday
afternoon from the Sharon church, near Leiters Ford. Interment will be in the [Moon] cemetery at
that place.
The deceased was born at Greencastle, Ind., September 24, 1835, the son of David and
Elizabeth FOE YELTON, but the family soon thereafter moved to Fulton county, settling near
Leiters Ford, where the deceased was engaged at farming during his entire active life. He was
married on January 11, 1859 to Jane MONESMITH, who died August 13, 1903. They were the
parents of eight children, of whom the surviving are: Mrs. H. C. WALPE, of Peru; William H.
YELTON, of Leiters Ford; L. G. YELTON, of Ora, and Lon YELTON of Muskegon, Mich.^2,4 He was buried in Moon Cemetery, North Section, Row 3, Fulton County, Indiana.⁴

     John Thomas married Isabella Yelton, daughter of William C. Yelton and Nancy Taylor, on 3 May 1830 in Pendleton County, Kentucky.¹ John Thomas died on 9 October 1836 Kentucky.

     Elijah Taylor was born on 12 May 1812 in Campbell County, Kentucky, the son of John Taylor and Frances Neel.¹

It is likely that these individuals were, in addition to Elijah, his wife, Isabella Taylor as well as Benjamin J. Yelton, age 37 was living in the household of John J. Yelton, age 47, in the 1860 Census of Logan County, Illinois.⁵ Mary J. Yelton, age 47 was living in the household of John J. Yelton, age 57, in the 1870 Census of Pendleton County, Kentucky.⁶ Mary J. Yelton, age 57, was listed as the wife of John J. Yelton, age 66, in the 1880 Census of Butler, Pendleton County, Kentucky.⁷ Mary Jane Wheeler died on 3 May 1904.⁸

Mary has borne 5 children, 3 of whom are living.² In 1900 John Wheeler Yelton was a druggist.² In 1910 John Wheeler Yelton was a retail druggist.⁹ He was listed as the head of a household in the 1910 Census of Florence, Fremont County, Colorado. The household also included his wife, Mary L. Yelton, age 62. Mary has borne 5 children, 3 of whom are living.⁹

     Jasper Yelton was born in December 1842 in Pendleton County, Kentucky.^1,2 He was living in the household of John Yelton, age 37, in the 1850 Census of Pendleton County, Kentucky.³ Jasper Yelton, age 17 was living in the household of John J. Yelton, age 47, in the 1860 Census of Logan County, Illinois.⁴ During the Civil War, he enlisted in Co. G of the 106th Illinois Volunteer Infantry.⁵ Jasper Yelton appears in the Military Census of Lincoln Precinct, Logan County, Illinois, in 1862 which confirms that he was at that time already serving as a volunteer.⁶ In 1862 Jasper Yelton was a farmer.⁶

     Aaron Yelton was born circa 1845 in Pendleton County, Kentucky.^1,3 He was living in the household of John Yelton, age 37, in the 1850 Census of Pendleton County, Kentucky.⁴ Aaron Yelton, age 14 was living in the household of John J. Yelton, age 47, in the 1860 Census of Logan County, Illinois.⁵ Aaron Yelton appears in the Military Census of Lincoln Precinct, Logan County, Illinois, in 1862.⁶ In 1862 Aaron Yelton was a farmer.⁶ On 22 July 1864 he was wounded at the Battle of Atlanta.⁷

Aaron Yelton married Lavina Watson on 20 February 1869 in Logan County, Illinois.⁸ Aaron Yelton and Lavina Watson were divorced before 1880?⁹

Aaron Yelton, age 64 was listed as a head of household in the 1910 Census of Walla Walla County, Washington. Also living in the house was his wife, Mrs. Louisa Yelton, age 63. Lavina has borne one child, who is living.¹⁰ In 1910 Aaron Yelton was a retired farmer.¹⁰ He died on 7 November 1919 at Walla Walla, Washington.^7,2

     Nimrod Washington Yelton was born on 25 October 1847 in Pendleton County, Kentucky.^2,1 He was living in the household of John Yelton, age 37, in the 1850 Census of Pendleton County, Kentucky.³ Nimrod Yelton, age 12 was living in the household of John J. Yelton, age 47, in the 1860 Census of Logan County, Illinois.⁴

Nimrod Washington Yelton married Nannie Elizabeth Dorsey, daughter of Thomas A. Dorsey and Maggie Griffith, on 25 April 1876 in Carlisle, Kentucky.² Nimrod W. Yelton, age 32 was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1880 Census of Crittenden, Grant County, Kentucky. The family included his wife, Nannie Yelton, age 22, his son, Ira R. Yelton, age 1, his daughter, Annie May Yelton, age 3.⁵ Nimrod Washington Yelton and Nannie Elizabeth Dorsey were divorced before 1900.⁶
