The Yelton Family - Main Page

This site summarizes the research of many contributors to the study of the Yelton family in America. Please share your comments with us by writing to the Yelton e-mail list. Please report dead links and similar problems to the webmaster, Cheryl Chasin.

Finding People

The Master Index includes every person on the site who has a separate person entry. Women are indexed only under their maiden names. Those whose maiden name is unknown are listed at the beginning of the index. You can also locate people using the Descendant Charts on the Charts page. For most descendants of James and Isabel, there is also a Pop-up Pedigree which shows their parents and grandparents.

Finding Places

There's also a place index which includes each state and county referenced in the person narratives. By clicking on the entry for a county or state, you can see who else in the family was living there at some point.

A Published Author!

Our cousin, Barry Yelton, has written Scarecrow in Gray, a fictional account of the Civil War experiences of his great-grandfather, Francis Marion Yelton, a soldier in the 18th North Carolina. It’s available from Amazon and Barnes & Noble, as well as many other booksellers.

Thank You, Ron

Ron Yelton, formerly of Fresno, CA, collected an amazing amount of information on the Yeltons, chiefly by writing letters to every Yelton he could find. He preserved and organized their responses, freely shared his work, and encouraged many of us in our research. If you've viewed this site recently (and read the footnotes!), you may know that Ron has graciously given me his Yelton files. I am gradually adding this fascinating material, particularly the stories, to the website. Thank you, Ron - we couldn't have done it without you.
