WYOMING TOWNS

Since the area's first trapper settlements in the early 1800s, Wyoming has had over twelve hundred towns, forts, post offices and other "populated places." (While there were certainly American Indian settlements long before Anglos arrived, the names and locations of these communities -- usually transient -- are lesser known and were not included in any of the materials examined by this researcher.)

The following list includes current towns, ghost towns, discontinued post offices, stage stations, military and civilian forts and camps, etc. Following the name of the populated place is the county in which it is/was located. Go to the appropriate county page for more information (if available).
