LAUNDRY FIRE - 1919

Fire which broke out in the Chinese laundry near the viaduct last Saturday morning almost 11 oclock, almost brought fatal results to the owner.  Tom Lee. In attempting to turn off a gasoline machine which he used in the place, it in some way exploded, and instantly the whole interior of the building was in flames. Lee seized some personal belongings and made his escape, hut onlookers noticed that he was badly burned about the face, yet it was with difficulty that be was restrained from again entering the building to rescue his Liberty bonds and other valuables. He also lost his United States certificate of entrance into the country.

The firemen soon quelled the blaze,.  but the interior of the place was completely burned out. There was no insurance on the building at contents.  The injured Chinaman was taken to the hospital, and a cousin. Wong Jing, of Ogden arrived Sunday to take charge of his affairs. At the hospital he was found to be severely burned about the face and head, but there did not seem to be any evidence of his having breathed the fumes to any great extent, and it is thought that he will recover if no other complications set in.  Kemmerer Republican Friday, January 17, 1919

COTTAGE HOTEL FIRE - 1920

Combustible chemicals were perhaps responsible for the mysterious roof fire at the Cottage Hotel last Thursday night, Fire Chief Edward W. Holmes said.  The blaze originated in a room on the second floor, which was locked and had been unoccupied for two weeks.  Fire Chief Holmes said that some combustible chemicals were probably in the pockets of mens clothes that were hanging on the wall.  Prompt and vigorous work on the part of the fire fighters saved the Cottage Hotel from entire destruction.  The fire chief places the loss at $150.  caused mostly by water which flooded the upstairs apartments.  The place was uninsured.  Kemmerer Camera Wednesday June 23, 1920
