Roger “Soapy” Svoboda, 71, of Banner, Wyoming, died Saturday, October 22, 2011, in Sheridan Manor, Sheridan, Wyoming.
Roger was born December 23, 1939, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota to Dean and Mina Lee (Cooke) Svoboda.
He grew up in the Hulett, Wyoming, area and graduated from Hulett High School. He went to work for Mountain Bell in Casper, Wyoming, and over the years was transferred to several towns in Wyoming. Soapy married Norma Cheshier on October 14, 1961, in Belle Fourche. He retired from Qwest in 1994 and then went to work for RT Communications in Moorcroft, Wyoming. He retired after eight years with RT Communications and they moved to Banner in 2002. Soapy enjoyed hunting, fishing, restoring old cars and trucks and traveling around on his trike bike. He loved spending time with his daughter and grandchildren.
Soapy was preceded in death by his parents and sister Alice.
Soapy is survived by his wife Norma of Banner; daughter Terri Jackson and husband Mark of Pleasanton, Texas; brother Larry Svoboda of Webster, Texas and grandsons Brandon Brosa and wife Megan and Kameron Jackson both of Gillette, Wyoming.
Cremation has taken place and at his request no services will be held. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home, Sheridan.
Memorials may benefit the American Cancer Society for research or the Donor’s Choice.
