Francis W Russell

Francis W Russell, whose illness was noted in the Monitor last week, passed away on Saturday afternoon, May 1, 1909, after an illness of about three weeks from lagrippe and pneumonia.

Mr Russell was born in Wisconsin February 19, 1938, residing in that state for a number of years, afterwards removing to Iowa, later to South Dakota, and later on to Wyoming. He and his venerable help mate had resided in Sundance for several years, and had endeared themselves to all with whom they became acquainted. Mr Russell was a carpenter by trade and was a very ambitious, straightforward and honest man.

At the call of his country Mr Russell enlisted in the 9th Iowa Infantry and served three years, receiving an honorable discharge from the United States service. It was while in this service that he received the injury which almost destroyed his hearing.

Immediately after the civil war Mr Russell was united in marriage to Lucretia Reed, who, with one son and two daughters, survives him. The son is W F Russell, who has made his home in Sundance most of the time for the past year. The daughters are Mrs Sabin and Mrs Hall, both of Weston county. The deceased was a consistent member of the Adventist church, in which faith he died. Funeral services were held at the home by Rev Klein of the Methodist church and internment was made at Greenwood Cemetery near Sheldon.
