E. Wayne Whetzel Sr.

Emory Wayne Whetzel Sr., 79, of Arthur, died Saturday, in Grant Memorial Hospital at Petersburg.

Friends were received Sunday at Schaeffer Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be today at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Gerstell officiating. Interment will be in Olivet Cemetery at Moorefield.  From 9 Nov 2009.

Jane Wiggin

Jane Maki Wiggin, RN, BSN, of Newport, Maine, died at a Bangor hospital at the age of 50. She had lived with a brain tumor for 18 years to which she eventually succumbed on Nov.7, 2009.

Jane was born April 29, 1959, at Laurium, Mich., the daughter of Donald and Edna Grant Maki.

She graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1977 after which she joined the army. While in the army she met and married the love of her life, Stephen Wiggin, on Dec. 16, 1978, in the Navy Chapel in Washington, D.C.

After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1979, she went to nursing school on the G.I. Bill. She graduated from the University of Southern Maine School of Nursing summa cum laude in 1993. She was elected to Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Theta Tau. Jane had many different nursing positions throughout her career as her husband's career required several moves to different states. She always readily found a job in the nearest hospital, nursing home or clinic.

The Wiggin family always made friends in their local Assembly of God Church no matter where they lived.

Jane had a big love of children and they seemed to flock to her. She was a Sunday school teacher and worked as a leader in Missionettes, an Assemblies program for girls of all ages. She also worked in several Vacation Bible Schools. Whatever church Jane attended, she was always involved in the children's programs whether it be teaching Sunday school, Missionettes or Vacation Bible School.

Jane was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Matt and Esther Salo; maternal grandfather, Kenneth Grant; and her father Sgt. Donald Maki of the Michigan State Police.

Survivors include her husband, Stephen, of Newport, Maine; her sons, Dan of Gorham, Maine, and Jim of Bangor, Maine; her mother, Edna Caramella, and stepfather Mario of Bergland, Mich.; a brother Don and sister-in-law, Colleen Maki, of Barryton, Mich.; sister, Ann Maki of St. Joseph, Mich.; sister, Brenda and brother-in-law, Ron O'Brien, of Williamston, Mich.; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elliot and Methyl Wiggin of Norway, Maine; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Steven Killam of Wilton, Maine; sister-in-law, Cathy May of Lewiston, Maine; and assorted nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, Maine.

Funeral services will be at Cornerstone Assembly of God in Windham, Maine, at noon Wednesday.

Icie I. Rice

Icie I. Rice, 97, of Rock Cave, died Saturday, Nov 7, 2009, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon.

She was born Jan. 30, 1912, at Eden, a daughter of the late Franklin and Mamie Bennett Baxa.

On May 5, 1930, she married James M. Rice, who preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1957.

She is survived by six sons, Neil Rice of Ohio, James Rice of Parma, Ohio, John Rice and wife, Dorothy, of French Creek, Jerome Rice of French Creek, Garry Rice and wife, Hollie, of Elria, Ohio, and Thomas Rice and wife, Rita, of French Creek; one daughter, Carolyn Clutter and husband, Glenn, of Thornton; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Mark Rice; seven brothers, Edward, Howard, Sherman, Roy, Delbert, Arie and Johnny Baxa; and two sisters, Clara Curkendall and Vergie Watkins.

Mrs. Rice was a homemaker and a member of the Eden United Methodist Church in Eden.

Friends will be received 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ralph Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Rice Cemetery in Canaan.

Sharon K. Neely

Sharon K. Schleuniger Neely, 53, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

She was born Aug. 23, 1956, in Randolph County, a daughter of the late George and Ina Bailey Schleuniger.

She was united in marriage on Sept. 22, 1974, to Dan Neely, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by one son, Brian Neely of Buckhannon; three grandchildren, Cameron, Colin and Claire Neely, all of Sterling, Va.; three sisters, Aggie Tenly of Martinsburg, Linda Ogden of Brandon, Fla., and Sue Andrew of Buckhannon; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Scott.

Sharon was a 1974 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School and was employed by Res-Care Health Services.

Friends will be received at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Vicki Sheppard and the Rev. T.J. Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the Bailey Cemetery.

Virginia C. Kyle

Virginia C. Kyle, 79, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, in St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.

She was born Dec. 23, 1929, at Long, a daughter of the late Elias Phillip and Icie Pearl Thomason Zickefoose.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Kyle Jr., who died Nov. 21, 2005; two sons, Jerry L. and Robert P. Kyle; one brother, Gilbert Thomason; and one sister, Juanita Vandevender.

She is survived by one son, John W. Kyle III and wife, Cathy L., of Nutter Fort; one daughter, Patricia Kyle of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Samantha and Jessica Russell of Buckhannon; four brothers, Darrel Zickefoose and wife, Sylvia, of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Carrol Zickefoose and wife, Elizabeth "Tiny," of North Ridgeville, Harold Zickefoose of French Creek and Roger Zickefoose and wife, Barbara, of Buckhannon; four sisters, Mary Wilson of Rock Cave, Deloris Madden and husband, Dale, of Columbia Station, Ohio, Hilda Hanifan and husband, Denver, of Queens and Betty Miller and husband, Ralph, of Buckhannon; sister-in-law, Arabelle Thomason of Queens; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Kyle worked for Marshallan Manufacturing Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Buckhannon.

William H. Isner

William Harding Isner, 89, of Woodstock, Va., passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 5, 1920, at Elkins, a son of the late Clay and Mabel Shoemaker Isner.

Surviving are his loving wife, Evalena May See Isner; his son, William R. Isner and wife, Cynthia, of Woodstock; a grandson, Justin Clay Isner of Charlottesville; sister, Betty Sausnock of Baltimore, Md.; his caregivers and friends, Barbara Stickley and Bob Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased in death by a son, Forrest Clay Isner; six brothers, Cliff, Marvin, James, Richard, Irvin and Russell Isner; and three sisters, Mary Teter, Dorothy Cunningham and Rita Roselle.

Mr. Isner was a member of the Woodstock Presbyterian Church, the International Order Of Odd Fellows, and Rockville (Maryland) Lions Club and served in the U.S. Marine Corp in the Air Corp during World War II. He retired from Columbia Gas Transmission LLC as superintendent of measurements and regulations after 30 years of service and was noted for his work on antique and regular clocks having customers throughout the United States and abroad.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jeremy R. Tenney

Jeremy Ross Tenney, 33, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at his home.

He was born April 6, 1976, at Elkins, a son of Carl Eugene Tenney of Ellamore and Christina Petrice Tenney of Coalton.

On July 2, 2005, he married Kelly Ann Walsh, who survives.

Also, surviving are one son, Graham Eugene Tenney of Buckhannon; maternal grandmother, Lucy Rossi Petrice of Coalton; and paternal grandmother, Mary Ford Tenney of Buckhannon.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Carla Marie Tenney; maternal grandfather, William Petrice Sr.; and paternal grandfather, Simon Tenney.

Jeremy was a truck driver for Lowe's.

Norma D. Hannah

Norma Daniels White Hannah, 91, formerly of Taylor Avenue, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at the home of her grandson, Chris Campion, on Chenoweth Creek, surrounded by family. She had been in declining health and under the care of Mountain Hospice since March. She had made her home with her grandson for the past two years.

She was born Monday, Jan. 21, 1918, at Beverly, a daughter of the late Thurman Cleveland and Violet Agnes Kisner Daniels.

Norma was twice married. On Thursday, Nov. 14, 1946, at Red House, Md., she married Foster White, who preceded her in death Saturday, March 10, 1956. On Saturday, Oct. 30, 1965, at Elkins, she married Ray Hannah, who preceded her in death Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002.

She was a lifelong resident of Randolph County. She attended Park School on King's Run Road and Beverly High School. She was employed at Reidboard Brothers for a number of years and Bata Shoe, while they were located in Randolph County. She was an excellent seamstress who was an avid quilter and made many lovely quilts during her lifetime. She enjoyed flowers, especially roses. She also enjoyed canning. Norma had a special concern for the care and movement to perpetual care of the Mount Vernon Cemetery located on Scott's Lake Road, Beverly and worked many hours mowing, cleaning and documenting for that. She served as president of the Cemetery Association for a number of years. Norma was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by those left behind to cherish her memories.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her only child, a son, Carl Costello Campion; one sister, Eula Cross of Virginia Beach, Va.; four brothers, Aubry Daniels and Paul Daniels of Elkins, Jack Daniels of Beverly and Kenneth Daniels of Elberton, Ga.

She is survived by one grandson, Carl "Chris" Campion and one granddaughter, Kathy Parsons Eskew, both of the Chenoweth Creek area; one great-granddaughter, Katelyn "Katie" Campion of the Chenoweth Creek area; one great-grandson, Tyler Parsons, stationed in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army; two sisters, Betty Merritt and husband, Perry, of Ripley and Carole Sines of Elkins; three brothers, Thurman "June" Daniels and wife, Lois, of Beverly, the Rev. Charles Daniels and wife, Mary Lou, of Flemington and Alvin Daniels of Moscow, Pa.; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Paula White of Elkins, who was a daily companion for the past eight months.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Norma's memory be made to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Ave., Belington, W.Va. 26250 .

Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 12, from noon until 2: p.m. at The Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 100 Meadow Lane in Valley Bend. Charles Dayton Jr.

Charles Edward Dayton Jr., 79, of Petersburg, formerly of Arthur, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at his home.

Family will receive friends today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating. Interment will be in the Maysville Cemetery at Maysville.  From 12 November 2009.

Delvin Burns

Delvin Burns, 67, a resident of Parsons, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Nov. 11, 2009, at his home. He had been in declining health after a 38-year MS illness.

He was born Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1941, at Parsons, a son of the late Roy W. Burns and Helen Wilhelm Burns.

On April 7, 1961, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Jeanie Louise Cassidy, who survives. They celebrated 47 years of marriage.

Also surviving are three sons, Delvin Richard "Rick" Burns and wife, Lisa, of Parsons, Mark Allen Burns and wife, Nina, of Shinnston and Michael Dale Burns and wife, June, of Cleveland, Ohio; one daughter, Amy Ellen Nestor and husband, Tommy, of Texas Mountain; two brothers, Rodney Dale Burns and wife, Beulah, of Parsons and Allen Keith Burns and wife, Loretta, of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren, Emily Cole Nestor Thornhill and husband, Matt, Mark Allen Burns Jr., Camey Joanna Nestor, Andrew Wesley Burns, Abby Lane Nestor and Joshua Isaac Burns; two stepgrandchildren, Kimberly Dawn Mackey and Bethany Ann Mackey; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Jaden Alexander Hallem.

Preceding him in death were four brothers, Leroy, Harold, Eldon "Pudge" and Melvin Burns; four sisters, Nina Buchanan, Betty Lou Bible, Evelyn Gerlitz and Madonna Burns; two grandsons, Matthew Dayton Burns and Jacob Roy Burns.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1960. He was an employee of the former Clover Farm Grocery of Parsons, the Kingsford Charcoal Co., Trailmobile of West Point, Pa., the former Parsons Tannery, until its closing, and he was a coal miner working at Laurel Run Mines at Mt. Storm. He was a member of the Parsons bowling league. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Parsons since 1976, where he was active with the youth and was a youth Sunday school teacher. He was a wonder husband, father and grandfather.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Saturday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. The Rev. J. Michael Lantz will officiate and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.

Gaynell H. Philips

Gaynell "Gail" Hart Phillips, 72, a resident of Hambleton, departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, in the Hospice Care Inpatient Center at Elkins, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Saturday, June 19, 1937, in Smith County, Va., a daughter of the late Hershel and Baney Hayes Hart.

On June 20, 1957, at Baltimore, Md., she was married to Keith Dale Phillips, who survives. They had celebrated 52 years of marriage.

Surviving are one son, Kenneth Lee Phillips of Hambleton; three daughters, Debra Darlene James and husband, Darrell R., of Jane Lew, Wanda Shiflett and husband, Tim, of Norton, Francis "Lovie" Phillips and Wendy Dagon of Montrose; four brothers, Roy Lee Hart and wife, Sandra, of Hambleton, J.C. Hart and wife, Judy, of Princeton, Roger Hart and wife, Janet, of Oregon, and Hershel Hart Jr. and wife, Amy, of Tazewell, Va.; two sisters, Eva Hagerman and husband, Leonard, of Skygusty and Delphia Bright of Virginia; and 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were one son, Roger Phillips; three brothers, Ronnie Hart, Donald Hart and Tonnie Hart; one sister, Betty Jean Hart; one grandson, Tony Phillips; and daughter-in-law, Janice Phillips.

She attended the schools of Virginia and West Virginia. She was a former employee of the Royal Crown Bottling Co in Washington, D.C., the Shephard Enok Pratt Hospital in Baltimore, Md., and a former employee of Cortland Acres Nursing Home. She along with her husband were the owners and operators of the former Parsons Bowling Alley. Her hobbies were crafts of all kinds, painting and dolls.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Sunday, Nov. 15, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Barry Moll will officiate and interment will follow in Fansler Cemetery at Hendricks.

Hugh N. Caplinger

Hugh Nelson Caplinger, 92, a resident of Fifteenth Street, Elkins, departed this life Tuesday evening, Nov. 10, 2009, in the Hospice Care Inpatient Center at Elkins.

He was born Tuesday, June 26, 1917, at Elkins, a son of the late Earle Caplinger and Lillie May Folks Caplinger.

On Dec. 20, 1945, at West Point, Ga., he was married to the former Lida Mae Sims, who preceded him in death April 20, 1984.

Surviving are one stepson, Cecil Hurst and wife, Joanne, of Locust Grove, Va.; one stepdaughter, Dorothy Henderson and husband, Len, of Florida; one brother, Fred Caplinger and wife, Hope, of Elkins; one sister-in-law, Bettie Caplinger; two grandsons, Steve Hurst and wife, Kathryn, and Eric Hurst and wife, Elizabeth; one great-grandson, Charlie Hurst; one nephew, Jeff Caplinger and wife, Lisa; and one niece, Sandra Elza and husband, Max.

Hugh was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1935, where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Valley Supply Co. for 45 years, first as a salesman and later serving as president. He also worked as a local locksmith for many years. He was a 70-year member of the Elkins Lodge 108, A. F. & A. M., was a member of the Elkins Chapter 5, Royal Arch Masons, the Pilgrim Commandry 21, Knights Templar, the Tygart Valley Shrine Club and the Osiris Temple of Wheeling. He was a lifelong member of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Friday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Peter A. Vial will officiate and interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, where the H. W. Jeremy R. Tenney

Jeremy Ross Tenney, 33, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at his home.

He was born April 6, 1976, at Elkins, a son of Carl Eugene Tenney of Ellamore and Christina Petrice Tenney of Coalton.

On July 2, 2005, he married Kelly Ann Walsh, who survives.

Also, surviving are one son, Graham Eugene Tenney of Buckhannon; maternal grandmother, Lucy Rossi Petrice of Coalton; and paternal grandmother, Mary Ford Tenney of Buckhannon.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Carla Marie Tenney; maternal grandfather, William Petrice Sr.; and paternal grandfather, Simon Tenney.

Jeremy was a 1994 graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School, attended Fairmont State and Glenville State College and was a truck driver for Lowe's.

Lester Hinkle

Lester Ray "Buck" Hinkle, 87, passed away Tuesday, Nov.10, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.

He was born at Davis on Aug. 27, 1922, the second son of the late Omer Scott and Mable Susan Kimble Hinkle.

On April 22, 1950, he married Barbara McDowell Hinkle who remains at their home in Davis.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, retired U.S. Navy Capt. Marcia H. (Robert) Lemon of Thomas; one son, G. Scott (Diane) Hinkle of Davis; four grandchildren Erica (Michael) Kraemer of Linden, Va., Benjamin Scott Hinkle of Jackson, Wyo., Laurel Lemon, attending Bryn Mawr College, Philadelphia, Pa., and Logan Lemon, currently a junior at Tucker County High School; one sister, Dorothy (Arthur) Gross of Bowie Md.; sister-in-law, Ruth Elaine Hinkle of Elkins; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ellery James Hinkle.

A graduate of Davis High School with the class of 1941, Mr. Hinkle was drafted into the Army in 1942 where he served as a paratrooper and with Co. H 38th Infantry 2nd Division in the European Theater where he was awarded the Silver Star for action beyond the call of duty. When he returned to the states, at the end of the war, he was greeted with a kiss by Marlene Dietrich; one of many stories he enjoyed sharing.

After his discharge in 1946, he returned to his home town of Davis where he went to work at the L.H. Mott & Wayne C. Spiggle Funeral Home. He attended Pittsburgh School of Mortuary Science and in 1949, graduated as a licensed embalmer and funeral director. In 1963, he bought the business now known as Hinkle Funeral Home. Although he officially retired in 1989 and turned the business over to son Scott, Lester continued to be active in the day to day operations.

During his career Mr. Hinkle had a life long interest in his community. He served as town recorder for two terms and joined the Blackwater Civic Club. He joined the Davis Volunteer Fire Department and served as treasurer until his time of death. In 2006, he was awarded a Fire Safety Commendation from Sons of the American Revolution for his 63 years of service to the fire department. In addition, he served on a committee that started the Winter Carnival in 1951 (and eventually became the Alpine Festival Board) where Lester served as president for 10 years. He was a former member of the Tucker Community Foundation and the Tucker Building Commission. He was a current member of Thomas Fairfax Lodge 174, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 936, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8367. In 1997, he was named Tuckineer by the Tucker Chamber of Commerce. He was a lifelong member of Davis United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at Hinkle Funeral Chapel Friday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Davis Cemetery.

Marlin H. Shears

Mr. Marlin Harper Shears, 76, a resident of Oak Lea Nursing Home at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community, died Nov.10, 2009.

A son of Nola Nicholas Shears and the late Adolphus Shears, he was born on July 8, 1933, at Arbovale,; and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology and Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

Mr. Shears made his home in Annandale, Va., prior to moving to Harrisonburg, Va. He was an educator in Fairfax County schools and retired in 1988. He was a member of Harrisonburg Baptist Church and Belmont Ruritan Club.

On Oct. 6, 1961, he married Loretta Dean Shears, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Timothy D. Shears and wife, Meredith, of Arlington, Va.; a daughter, Amanda L. Shears of Harrisonburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Timothy Droz, Kelsey Droz, Emily Joseph, Nicholas Shears and Christopher Shears; mother, Nola Nicholas Shears of Elkins; a brother, Donald Shears of Harrisonburg, VA.; one sister, Lorena Luton of Fairview; and a number of nieces and nephews.

His body will be cremated at Lindsey Cremation Chapel in Harrisonburg, Va.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, Nov. 15, at 3 p.m. at Harrisonburg Baptist Church with Dr. Jack Mercer officiating. Private burial will be in Arbovale Cemetery in.

Mildred R. Sage

Mildred R. Sage, 93, of Homerville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at her home.

She was born in Pocohontas County, Elk Valley, on Feb. 16, 1916, to Harlan and Josie Jordan Gibson and had lived there most of her life before moving to Ohio in 1990.

She had worked as a cook for the Seneca Trail School. She also worked as a housekeeper and cook at the Laurel Bank Boarding House for the CXS Railroad and as a cook at several lumber camps in West Virginia. She had been a member of Mary's Chapel Church in Elk Valley.

Surviving are children, Kale Eugene Sage, Rebecca Sage Vaughn, Gibby Gray Sage and Charma Sage Doss; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and a half brother, Jimmy Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Lewis Sage Sr.; children, Ray Lewis Sage Jr., Sheila Sue Sage, Terry Ambers Sage, Josetta Sage Moore and Thomas Creed Sage; and three brothers Jack, Glenn and Ralph Gibson.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. at Mary's Chapel Church in Elk Valley. Pastor Mark Gostlin and grandsons, Pastors Mark Sage and Troy Sage, will officiate. Burial will be in Gibson Cemetery in Slatyfork. Visitation will be today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St., Spencer, Ohio, and also one hour prior to the service at the church.

Norma Daniels White Hannah, 91, formerly of Taylor Avenue, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at the home of her grandson Chris Campion on Chenoweth Creek surrounded by family.

Opal R. Lockridge

Opal Regina Barlow Lockridge, 96, of Elkins, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at her daughter's residence in Elkins.

Born Friday, Oct. 10, 1913, at Onoto in Pocahontas County, she was a daughter of the late Silas L. and Leva Duncan Barlow.

A life member of Third Presbyterian Church, Staunton, Va., Mrs. Lockridge was the past president of Women of the Church and chairman of the Afternoon Circle. She also chaired various other church activities. Opal actively participated in the Augusta County Home Extension Service. Knitting was, likewise, an important part of Mrs. Lockridge's life, but nothing could surpass her love for family and friends.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Ransom Hill Lockridge, with whom she shared a devoted and blessed union, preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1977. Also preceding Mrs. Lockridge in death were, one son, Ray Edwin Lockridge; four sisters, Cora Keen, Mabel, Hattie and Ethel Barlow; and five brothers, Albert, Lee, Ward, Russell and Clark Barlow.

She is survived by one daughter, Ann Lockridge Cain and her husband, James, of Elkins; daughter-in-law, Carol Lockridge-Williams; five grandchildren, J. Michael Cain and his wife, Kristen, Patrick Duncan Cain and his wife, Aimee, Timothy Lockridge and his wife, Alison, Marissa Lockridge and Sarah Lockridge-Donlevy and her husband, Bryan; seven great-grandchildren, Sean, Keely, Lauren, Jaime, Brendan, Erin and Madison; as well as five nieces, Lois Ann Beverage, Carolyn Burns, Julia Gibson, Mary Margaret Todd and Marolyn Waggy; and two nephews, Robert Barlow and Thomas Barlow. Also surviving are special cousins, Lennis Lockridge, Debbie, Ray, Ashley and Daniel Pitsenbarger.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, in Third Presbyterian Church, 1313 Barterbrook Road, Staunton, Va., with the Rev. Jack B. Wilkers and Sister Mary Ella Morrison officiating. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro, Va. Paula M. Mullenax

Paula Marie Mullenax, 61, of Boyer, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, in Pocahontas Continuous Care Center in Marlinton.

Born July 4, 1948, at Marlinton, she was a daughter of Gayle Cassell Mullenax and the late Paul L. Mullenax.

She was a member of Kerr Memorial Church in Boyer.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by an older sister, Sandra Jean.

She is survived by her mother and three sisters, her twin, Janice Carter and fiance, Francis Sutton, of Arbovale, Louise Starke and husband, Robert, of Cass and Karen Senger and husband, Garold, of Mt. Sidney, VA. She is also survived by two nieces, Mary Ann Smith and Karen Lewallen; and five nephews, Brian Seth and Joshua Shinaberry, Wayne and Jonathan Senger.

Wilma Jean Bonner Wing, 66, of Waldorf, Md., passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, in University of Maryland Hospital at Baltimore, Md., after a short battle with cancer.

She was born Dec. 13, 1942, at Gladwin, a daughter of Thomas L. Bonner of Gladwin and the late Freddie Waybright Bonner.

Also surviving are her husband, Floyd E. Wing; two sons, Ralph H. White Jr. (Cindy) of Waldorf, Md., and Timothy White (Cindy) of Mechanicsville, Md.; one daughter, Erin Nicole Wing of Waldorf, Md.; two grandchildren; two brothers, James Bonner of Gladwin and Thomas J. Bonner of Kerens; one sister, W. Jane Jernigan of Colonial Beach, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

One brother, Jerry D. Bonner, is deceased.

Bernard McGuire Jr.

Bernard Waldron McGuire Jr., 83, of Teter Creek Road, Route 2, Philippi, formerly of Baltimore, Md., died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, in Broaddus Hospital, following an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 28, 1925, at Baltimore, Md., a son of the late Bernard Waldron Sr. and Helen Lavine McGuire.

On June 30, 1962, he married the former Wilma Lee Riley, who survives at Philippi.

Also surviving are three sons, Bernard W. McGuire III and wife, Rebecca, of Thomas Walter McGuire of Philippi, Francis Paul McGuire and wife, Susan, of Ft. Worth, Texas; two brothers, Francis McGuire of Baltimore, Md., and Michael McGuire of Jeffersonville, Va.; three sisters, Sr. Helen McGuire of Baltimore, Betty Priog, Kingwood, Md., and Joan Dashille of Towson, Md.; and nine grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Paul McGuire.

Mr. McGuire was a retired firefighter for the Baltimore City Fire Department and was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters, AFL- CIO, CLC. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy and was Roman Catholic by faith. After moving to Barbour County, he had served the Barbour County Senior Citizens as a van driver and driver for Meals on Wheels.

Mr. McGuire's request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, from Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St. in Philippi. The Rev. Fr. Patsy Iaquinta will officiate.

Betty L. Phillips

Betty Lugene Phillips, 80, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at her home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.

She was born April 28, 1929, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Fred A. and Blanche Rollins Foster.

On Sept. 5, 1948, she married William E. Phillips, who preceded her in death on May 5, 1980.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Virginia Casto Foster; and one daughter, Beverly Ann Phillips.

She is survived by two sons, William E. Phillips II and wife, Cara, of Webster Springs and Sidney F. Phillips and wife, Becky, of Buckhannon; two daughters, Jennifer Phillips Gammon and husband, Gary, of Gastonia, N.C., and Patricia Phillips Hess of Buckhannon; five granddaughters, Jennifer Hess Wiles and husband, Ben, of Fayetteville, N.C., Natalie Hess Houghton and husband, Ryan, of Huntington, Kacie Phillips of Columbus, Ohio, Paige Phillips of Webster Springs and Sheena Phillips of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Chip Hess of Clinton of Indiana, Shea Phillips of Buckhannon and Gary Gammon II of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and one great-grandson, Otis Rollins Houghton of Huntington.

Mrs. Phillips was a real estate agent and a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church of Buckhannon. "Our Mother was the family matriarch, her wisdom and guidance invaluable, her faith, strength, and courage unwavering, and her love selfless and unending." She enjoyed reading, playing "rummy," and spending time with family and friends.

Delvin Burns, 67, a resident of Parsons, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Nov. 11, 2009, at his home. He had been in declining health after a 38-year MS illness.

Dorothy McLaughlin

Dorothy Mae McLaughlin, 90, of Marlinton, passed away Nov. 12, 2009, in Pocahontas Memorial Hospital in Marlinton.

Mrs. McLaughlin was born Aug. 5, 1919, at Covington, Va., and was the daughter of the late Frank Slaven.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnn Rose Brooks; two sons, Carl "Mike" Rose and Hunter "Pete" Hamrick; a stepson, Kenneth McLaughlin; and numerous sisters and brothers.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Rose (Al) Braun of Socorro, N.M., and Doris (John) Hamrick Ernst of Fitzwilliam, N.H.; one stepdaughter, Joyce Deitz of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter-in-law, Karen Rose of Mineral Well; one brother, Warren Slaven of Cass; and 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was of the Methodist faith and was a Red Hatter.

Gaynell "Gail" Hart Phillips, 72, a resident of Hambleton, departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, in the Hospice Care Inpatient Center at Elkins, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Helen E. Simmons

Helen Eugenia Simmons, 81, of Parsons, died under the care of Mountain Hospice, Nov. 12, 2009, in Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas.

She was born Feb. 21, 1928, in Summers County, a daughter of the late Eugene Lawrence Kepner and Ida Marie Runner Kepner.

Her husband, Edward Clell Simmons Sr., preceded her in death Jan. 6, 2007.

She is survived by four sons, Edward Clell Simmons Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Preston L. (Kelly) Simmons of Parsons, Gregory S. (Randy) Simmons of York, Pa., and William R. (Sherry) Simmons of Parsons; six daughters, Gale (David) Kuhn of Ackworth, Ga., Barbara E. (David) Nestor of Lexington, Ky., Janet M. (Lawrence) Denison of Parsons, G. Yvonne (Joe) Williams of Clarksburg, Debra L. (Phillip) Fansler of Parsons and Teresa K. Simmons of Parsons; and 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Lorraine Snyder.

Prior to retirement, Ms. Simmons was a case management worker for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. She enjoyed quilting and cooking and was active with the Parsons High School Alumni Association where she served as secretary. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Parsons and the Missionary Society.

At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated. A graveside service at Parsons Cemetery will be conducted at a later date.

Henry H. Golden

Henry Harold "Dutch" Golden, and to many known as the "railroader," 96, of Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon and formerly of the Brooks Hill Community, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009.

He was born Sept. 18, 1913, at Helvetia, a son of the late Curtis Lloyd and Eva R. Tallman Golden.

He was united in marriage on Feb. 11, 1937, to Nettie Maude Johnston Golden, who preceded him in death Oct. 20, 2006.

He is survived by six daughters, Rachel and husband, Warren Smith, of Buckhannon, Ellen and husband, Lonnie Shingleton, of Buckhannon, Opal and husband, Dwayne Corbitt, of Cleveland, Ohio, Twila Morris of Buckhannon, Joann and husband, Louis Audia, of Morgantown and Ronda and husband, David Hinkle, of French Creek; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and 11 stepgrandchildren; six sisters; Beryl Hubbard of Dayton, Ohio, Zella Crawford of Bridgeville, Pa., Edith Hosaflook of Buckhannon, Dolly Coleman of Buckhannon, Mrs. William "Nicki" Lloyd of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Ruth Bunner Scott of Jacksonville, N.C.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Virginia) Booth and Hazel Joyce Golden; one infant son, Stanley Harold Golden; two sisters, Ross "Stella" Wilson and Willa Cole; and four brothers, Gerald, Willard, Dempsey and Curtis Golden.

Mr. Golden was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. From a young man, he had a strong faith in God. He was a former superintendent of Brooks Hill United Methodist Church for many years. He worked on the Beech Mountain Railroad for 37 years and also enjoyed working on his farm. He was a former board member of the Brooks Hill Community Building. He was an honorary member of the Selbyville Volunteer Fire Department. He will be greatly missed.

Kathryn V. Shaffer

Kathryn Virginia "Sis" Shaffer, 85, of Route 1, Volga, died Monday morning, Nov. 9, in Broaddus Hospital.

She was born June 23, 1924, on Indian Fork, near Philippi, a daughter of the late Albert Creed and Bessie Lantz Shaffer.

Surviving are two daughters, Joyetta Evix and husband, Herman, of Volga and Jackie Ketchem of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Kelli Kittle and husband, Matt; one great-grandson, Dakota Shaffer, all of Belington; three sisters, Louretta Marsh and husband, Don, of Volga, Bessie Louise Shaffer, with whom she made her home, and Wilma Zelinsky of Century; one brother, Harold Shaffer and wife, Ava, of Volga; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Richard "Bub" Shaffer, Albert Eugene Shaffer and Earnest James Shaffer.

Ms. Shaffer was retired as a presser for Reidbord Brothers in Buckhannon and as a housekeeper for the Leonard Memorial Hospital in Buckhannon. She enjoyed working in her yard and coloring in coloring books.

Ms. Shaffer's request for cremation was honored. Plans for a memorial service are currently incomplete.

Myrtle P. Johnson, 80, of Franklin, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at her home.

Richard E. Loudin

Richard Ellis Loudin, 71, of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at his home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.

He was born Nov. 10, 1938, in Upshur County, a son of Douglas Rex Loudin, who survives in Buckhannon and the late Eleanor Mae Smith Loudin.

He was united in marriage, on June 19, 2007, to Joy Walton Loudin, who survives.

In addition to his father and his wife, he is also survived by one stepson, Roger Gregory of Raleigh, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Darlene and husband, Marion Cooper, of Polson, Mont.; three stepgrandchildren, Shawn, Clint and Dylan; two sisters, Vonda Wilfong of Chapmanville and Judith and husband, Tom Newman, of Doylestown, Pa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother-in-law, Richard "Buzz" Wilfong.

Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the French Creek Disabled American Veterans Chapter 36. He was employed by Brown's Lumber Co. for 19 years and by O.C. Cluss for five years. He attended the Independent United Brethren Church on Latham St. in Buckhannon.

Delvin Burns, 67, a resident of Parsons, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Nov. 11, 2009, at his home. He had been in declining health after a 38-year MS illness.

James "Jim' Clayton Phillips, 69, of Elkins entered into eternal rest Wednesday Nov. 11, 2009.

He was born Saturday, Jan. 13, 1940, at Elkins, a son of the late Perry Hall and Dessie Gladys Bright Phillips.

Jim attended the schools of Randolph County. He was a graduate of Elkins High School. He was employed as a coal miner and a carpenter for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being in the outdoors. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James Everett Phillips; and two brothers, Robert "Bob" J. Phillips and Donald "Scott" P. Phillips.

Jim's survivors include one son, Ronald Clayton Phillips and wife, Dorothy, of Philippi; two daughters, Kimberly Fay Everson and husband, Allan, of Belington and Sandra June Phillips of Philippi; five grandsons, Matthew, Justin, Jon, Josh and Andy; two great-granddaughters, Chloe and Gabriel; four sisters, Mary Josephine Hinkle of Louisburg, N.C., Loretta Jean Hinkle and husband, Fred, of Beverly, and Nancy Ellen Mullins and Virginia "Ginny" Ann Skidmore and husband, Ronal, all of Elkins; two brothers, Alan Dale Phillips of Beverly and Steven Hall Phillips of Belington; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Jim's wishes for cremation were honored. Memorial services will be conducted at a later date.

James W. Piper

James W. Piper, 63, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.

He was born Sept. 10, 1946, at Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late John and Vesta Hoey Piper.

On July 15, 1989, he married Lorma I. Suder, who survives.

Also surviving are one sister, Diana Ludwig and husband, Al, of Kansas City, Mo.; one nephew, Alfred Ludwig of Missouri; and one brother-in-law, Freddy Suder and wife, Stacy, of Buckhannon.

He worked in maintenance for Westinghouse and was a member of the Good Hope Tabernacle. Mr. Piper graduated from Norwin High School in Pittsburgh in 1964. He attended Davis & Elkins College and the University of Pheonix online. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968, having served on the U.S. Power DD 839 and a Navy Destroyer. He was a member of Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663. He was HAM Radio Operator WV8JP and was a certified communicator for the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Units. Taking Bible courses he was able to go through the Bible twice and made 95 to 100 each time. He supported a child through compassion.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Holly J. Hoover and the Rev. John Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery, three miles past Kesling Mill. Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion, Buckhannon VFW Post 3663 and Disabled American Veterans Chapters 5 and 36 will conduct military honors at the graveside.

James A. Tabscott

Jeanne Albert Tabscott, 87, of Daytona Beach, Fla., passed away Oct. 28, 2009.

Jeanne was born Jan. 27, 1922, at Camden, N.J., and lived in Elkins before moving to Daytona Beach, Fla., in 1955.

She was a graduate of Elkins High School, where she was chosen outstanding student, played basketball and was a member of the band. She attended Davis & Elkins College and graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in library science in 1943. She was honored by her selection as a princess in the Mountain State Forest Festival. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Upon graduation, she became a librarian with the New York City public library system. She served as head librarian at Mainland Senior High School, Daytona Beach, Fla., for 17 years, retiring in 1979.

Jeanne was a member of Highlands Presbyterian Church in Daytona Beach, where she sang in the choir for 15 years and served as an elder for six years. She spent most summers in her hometown of Elkins.

Jeanne treasured her bridge club in Daytona Beach, loved to do crafts and to attend art and antique shows. Many of the beautiful antiques she collected remain in her home. She is remembered by her family and friends for her kind and gentle ways.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William "Tab" L. Tabscott Jr., and is survived by daughter Neville Tabscott, son Charles Tabscott, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  From 14 Nov 2009.

Lilly Ruth Adkins, 62, of Davis, passed away Nov. 12, 2009, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

She was born Sept. 15, 1947, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Melvin Emery Kisamore Sr. and Vivetta Mae Reed.

Her husband, Delmar E. Adkins, preceded her in death Jan. 6, 2004.

She is survived by one daughter, Malinda (Jason) Springston of Carmel, Ind.; two sons, Delmar E. (Christy Ann) Adkins of Monticello, Ky., and Elvin Prentice Adkins of Davis; seven brothers, Rodney D. Liller and Rex Liller of Davis, Stan Kisamore of Keyser, Kenny L. Kisamore of Indianapolis, Ind., Melvin E. Kisamore Jr., Gregory L. Kisamore and Charles L. Kisamore, all of Baltimore, Md.; four sisters, Loretta Phillips and Latrella Small of Davis, Lorena Liller of Thomas and Beverly Hatfield of Baltimore, Md.; and six grandchildren, James Turner, Allen M. Turner, Julius A. Adkins, Olivia Lauren Adkins, Katherine E. Springston and Christopher E. Springston.

In addition to to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dale Liller; and one sister, Brenda Kisamore.

Mrs. Adkins was a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed crafts of all kinds and was an avid Tupperware collector. She enjoyed her grandchildren and genealogy. She was Baptist by faith.

Mamie L. Carpenter, 62, of Route 1, French Creek, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, in St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born Nov. 26, 1946, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Archie Darius and Ruth Gillum Hawkins.

She was united in marriage April 9, 1966, to Otto Carpenter, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by one daughter, Debra and husband, Marcus Speaker, of Roanoke, Va.; two sons, Steve and wife, Jackie Carpenter, and Danny and wife, Shanah Carpenter, all of French Creek; eight grandchildren, Austin, Dawson, Branson, Camdin, Hannah and Grace Carpenter, and Cameron and Sarah Speaker; two brothers, Joseph and wife, Sharon Hawkins, and Dale and wife, Wanda Hawkins, all of French Creek; three sisters, Thelma and husband, Carl Woody, of Rock Cave, Charlotte and husband, Gary Leichliter, of French Creek and Mavis and husband, Jim Shiflett, of Buckhannon; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mamie retired from the U.S. Postal Service on Jan. 1, 2007, after 27 years of service. She was a member of the Kanawha Run United Methodist Church.

Shirley M. Marcum

Shirley May Cutlip Marcum, 74, a resident of Tygart Court, Elkins, departed this life early Thursday evening, Nov. 12, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

She was born Monday, March 4, 1935, at Diana, a daughter of the late Charlie Cutlip and Orpha Marie Ware Cutlip.

During November 1957, at Point Mountain, she was married to Eugene Lee Marcum, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Timothy Edward Marcum and wife, Mary, of Huttonsville; and two granddaughters.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death was one brother.

She attended the schools of Webster County, was a homemaker and was a member Cass Chapter 124, Order of the Eastern Star.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. On Sunday, at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home, the Order of the Eastern Star will conduct ritualistic services. Theda D. Webb

Theda D. Skaggs "Jill" Simmons Webb, 91, a former resident of the Harpertown community, Elkins, and Parkersbug, and more recently a resident of Holbrook on the Hill Nursing Home at Buckhannon, departed this life early Thursday evening, Nov. 12, 2009, at the nursing home.

She was born Sunday, Feb. 10, 1918, at Jodie, a daughter of the late James Wyatt Skaggs and Daisy Lou Legg Skaggs. She was twice married. First, to Woodford H. "Woody" Simmons, who preceded her in death. Second, to Karl Fred Webb, who survives at Holbrook on the Hill Nursing Home at Buckhannon.

Also surviving are two sons, Michael H. "Mickey" Simmons and wife, Judy, of Stonewood and Roger A. Simmons and wife, Vicki, of Norwich, Ohio; four grandchildren, Cheryl Smith and husband, Joseph, of New Concord, Ohio, Michelle Pugh and husband, James, of Stonewood, Michael Simmons of Martinsburg and Eric Simmons and wife, Nikki, of Buckhannon; three stepgrandchildren, Debbie, Joni and Joelle; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were one stepson, Robert L. Simmons; three sisters, Ruby Cooney, Bobby Humphries and Elva Andes; and one brother, Reginald Skaggs.

She was a graduate of the Davis Memorial Hospital School of Practical Nursing with the class of 1971, had worked as a nurse for various nursing homes in the Elkins area, and was a member of the First Church of Christ at Elkins.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Monday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Edward Lowther will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins.
