Gary H. Lytle

Gary H. "Turtle" Lytle, 41, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 9, 2009, in the Davis Memorial emergency department.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Walter Ellison officiating. Interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens on the airport road where full military rites will be accorded at the gravesite by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Genevieve Kesling

Genevieve Ruth Kesling, 92, of the Bowden community, entered into eternal life Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at her residence where she made her home with her daughter.

She was born Aug. 8, 1917, at Montrose, a daughter of the late Oliver and Flodia Kerns Roy.

She had been employed by the Randolph County Board of Education as a cook and retired after 25 years. Genevieve was a member of the Elkins Church of God and the Randolph County Senior Center where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed singing, preaching and was famous for her cooking and baking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by her nine brothers and sisters, her husband, Denzil B. Kesling; one daughter, Virginia Ruth Kesling; and one great-granddaughte, Britney Lynn Hutton.

Surviving Genevieve are one son, David Kesling and his companion, Pearl Mallow, of Huttonsville; and one daughter, Elizabeth Wymer and husband, Tom, of the Bowden community. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at The Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services; 100 Meadow Lane, Valley Bend. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jamie Estep, the Rev. Eli Hostetler, the Rev. Brian Headley and the Rev. Danny Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale.

Margaret Boyles

Margaret Genevieve Crowley Boyles, a resident of Heavner Avenue, Elkins, departed this life late Friday evening, Sept. 11, 2009, in the Hospice Care In-Patient Care Center at Elkins.

Ronald H. Fortney

Ronald H. Fortney, 61, of Buckhannon, passed away Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at his home.

He was born Oct. 27, 1947, at Kingwood, a son of Maxine Shaffer Fortney of Tunnelton and the late Howard Fortney.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Dillon Fortney, whom he married Oct.12, 1968; two sons, Scott Fortney and Rita, his wife, of Davis and Chris Fortney and Megan, his wife, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kameron, Jillian and Kylar; and two sisters, Margie Seifert and Hank, her husband, of Terra Alta and Carolyn Casseday and Donald, her husband, of Masontown.

Ronald was a botanist, had been an administrator with the West Virginia state parks and a research professor at Salem-Teikyo University in Salem, and West Virginia University in Morgantown.

Memorial services will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept.15, at the Wesley Chapel on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon.

Sharon Everhart

Mrs. Sharon Rose Everhart, 48, went home to be with the Lord at 7:20 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11 2009, at her residence in Montrose after a short battle with cancer.

She was born Feb. 28, 1961, at Clarksburg, a daughter of the late John White Jr. and Martha White McIntyre. She was also the stepdaughter of the late Jack D. McIntyre.

On June 12, 1982, she was united in marriage to Don Everhart, who resides at their home in Montrose.

Also surviving are two sons Jeremy McIntyre of Belington and Eric Everhart of Montrose; three sisters, Connie Seech and husband, Jeff, of Belington, Linda Baumgardner and husband, Ralph, of Belington and Carol Smith of Elkins; one stepsister, Jackie McIntyre of Charleston; one brother, R. Michael White of Belington and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, David, Homer and John White; one stepbrother, Billy McIntyre; and two infant sisters.

Sharon attended the schools of Barbour County and graduated from Philip Barbour High School in 1979. She lived and worked in several states including Florida, California, Tennessee and Virginia before returning to West Virginia. She was most recently employed with Res Care and Select in Home Care of Randolph County. Sharon was a happy person to be around, even through her illness, and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and devoted homemaker. She was a member of the Faithway Baptist Church near Belington.

Friends will be received today at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. when final rites will then be conducted from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Downing Gregory officiating. At the request of the deceased, her remains will be cremated. Interment will follow at a later date.

Thelma M. Boyles

Thelma Mae Carr Boyles, 93, a resident of Mill Creek, and since August of 1999 a resident of the Wellington Manor at Wellington, Ohio, departed this life early Saturday morning, Sept. 12, 2009, in Kingston of Ashland at Ashland, Ohio.

She was born Monday, July 31, 1916, at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Marvin Homer Carr and Dessie Mae Rogers Currence Carr.

On April 22, 1938, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Lawrence Lee Boyles, who preceded her in death, June 20, 1972.

Surviving are two sons, Lawrence Lee "Larry" Boyles II and wife, Janet, of Morgantown and Samuel Leslie Boyles and wife, Diana, of Volga; one daughter, Linda Lu Navarre and husband, James, of Wellington, Ohio; one brother, James W. Carr of Dover, Del.; and eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were six brothers and four sisters.

She attended the schools of Mill Creek and was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1935, where she played on the girls basketball team. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mill Creek Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Women of the Church.

She enjoyed working with the Tyrand Parish, loved to sew and quilt and was a noted cake baker and decorator.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. On Wednesday, Sept. 16, Mrs. Boyles will be moved to the Mill Creek Presbyterian Church, where friends may call from noon to 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Gordon B. White Jr. will officiate and interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville.

Genevieve Kesling

Genevieve Ruth Kesling, 92, of the Bowden community, entered into eternal life Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at her residence where she made her home with her daughter. She was a patient of Mountain Hospice from Jan. 28, 2009 until the time of her death.

Margaret Boyles

Margaret Genevieve Crowley Boyles, a resident of Heavner Avenue, Elkins, went home to be with the Lord late Friday evening, Sept. 11, 2009, in the Hospice Care In-Patient Care Center at Elkins.

She was born on May 23, at Elkins, to the late James W. Crowley and Eula Yokum Crowley.

On June 5, 1937, she was married to Hyson Boyles, who preceded her in death June 29, 1993.

Surviving are one daughter, Karen Boyles of Elkins; one niece, Carole Doll of Spartanburg, S.C.; and a very special family, Janet and George Desko of Latrobe, Pa.; and their children, Chris, Ryan and Gina.

Preceding her in death are one son, David Hyson Boyles; and one sister, Virginia Poling

She was a graduate of Elkins High School, was a homemaker, enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was a lifelong member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Robert Lewis Sr.

Robert Lee Lewis Sr., 84, a resident of the Glenmore community, Elkins, departed this life early Monday morning, Sept. 14, 2009, at his home. He had been in declining health for the past two months.

He was born Friday, Jan. 23, 1925, at Roanoke, Va., a son of the late John Edgar Lewis and Maude Wood Lewis.

On May 22, 1950, at Baltimore, Md., he was married to the former Ruth Frances Parish, who survives. They had celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert Lee Lewis Jr. of Elkins and David Lowry Lewis and wife, Machelle, of Inwood; four daughters, Nancy Louise Lewis of Elkins, Mary Ann Leonard and husband, Parker, of Summerville, S.C., Betty Jo Legg and husband, Rob, of Elkins and Judy Eloise Collins and husband, John, of Kingsport, Tenn.; one sister, Sarah Wood Boyd and husband, James, of Natural Bridge, Va.; and 10 grandchildren, Michaela Lewis-Lambert, Dr. Cassie Leonard, Will Leonard II, James Legg, Thomas Legg, Rachel Collins, Sam Collins, Maggie Collins, Nickelous Lewis and Amanda Lewis.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, John and Sam Lewis.

Robert graduated from Jefferson Senior High School at Roanoke, Va., with the class of 1942, had served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific, and had retired from ARA Food Service of Parkersburg in 1990. He was a noted pinochle player and an avid woodworker. Bob was a deacon and co-led the Seekers Sunday school class at the First Baptist Church of Elkins. He served his Lord joyfully and leaves many friends in Christ.

Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Kathleen Guthrie

V. Kathleen Guthrie, 86, of Buckhannon, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon.

She was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late William Homer and Judi Lamb Tenney.

On May 25, 1941, she married John Sterling Guthrie, who preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1993.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita VanGilder and Margorie Shoop; and one brother, Stanley Tenney.

She is survived by one son, John William "Boe" Guthrie of French Creek; two daughters, Nancy Phillips of French Creek and Juanita Ryan of Hampton, Va.; four granddaughters, Shauna Hatfield, Cindee Espenshade and Lisa Howard, all of Virginia, and Kelly Pugh of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Roscoe Phillips Jr., Lee Phillips and John Guthrie, all of French Creek; 10 great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters.

Mrs. Guthrie was a cook for the Upshur County Board of Education and a Methodist by faith.

Friends will be received Thursday, Sept. 17, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Union Church Cemetery at Tallmansville.

Molly P. Gooding

Molly Pauline Gooding, 91, of Pierce, passed away Sept. 14, 2009, at the home of her daughter in Crawford.

She was born Oct. 11, 1917, at Tire Hill, Pa., a daughter of the late Anton and Pauline Deblock Royce.

Survivors include one son, Charles "Sonny" Gooding Jr. and wife, Carol Gooding, of Salisbury, Md.; one daughter, Margaret Joyce and husband, Cecil McCartney, of Crawford; one sister-in-law, Pauline Royce of Mentor, Ohio; and four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Molly was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Gooding Sr. on March 21, 1989; and two brothers, Louis and Joseph Royce.

Molly was employed as a grocery cashier and later as a cook at the Davis Center. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Thomas, SNPJ Lodge 129 and Walter Chapter Outreach Education Society 43. Molly's caring for people was evident through her volunteer work at Cortland Acres Nursing Home for 11 years. She also enjoyed camping, quilting, baking and music. She sang with the Tucker Community Chorus and played the organ, guitar and harmonica.

Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. David Jessie will officiate. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Russell Darling

Russell Darling, 90, a resident of Elkins, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2009.

He was born March 20, 1919, at New York, N.Y., a son of the late Clifford George Darling and Corinne Willemin Darling.

On May 3, 1941, at Elkins, he was married to the former Margaret Lee "Peg" Adamson, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, David R. Darling, and one daughter, Nancy Lee Jobe, both of Elkins. Four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Darling served with the U.S. Army during World War II and retired as a captain with the Army National Guard.

At Mr. Darling's request, his remains will be cremated. A graveside service will be conducted at a later date.

Ruth Virginia Gruber, 69, of Ashburn, Va., died on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, in Ashburn.

Vera M. Taylor

Vera Maxine Trickett Taylor, 87, a resident of Elkins, passed away at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Sept.15, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 27, 1922, at Kedron, Upshur County, a daughter of the late James Newton Trickett and Roberta Helmick Trickett.

On Aug. 23, 1945, at Baltimore, Md., she was married to Dale Woodrow Taylor, who preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1986.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Blaine Taylor and wife, Judy, of Laurel Mountain and Roger Lee Taylor and wife, Juanita, of Elkins. One sister, Betty Jack of Buckhannon, and one granddaughter, Mary Rebecca Taylor of Phoenix, Ariz., also survive.

Maxine was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1941. During World War II, she worked at the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Factory at Baltimore, Md. For 38 years, Maxine and her husband, Dale, owned and operated Quality Decorators. Their company built and designed parade floats which were used in many festivals throughout the state. She was a member of Delphia Rebekah Lodge No. 62 of Elkins Woodmen of the World, Lodge No. 6065 and the Alpha Shrine No. 19 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was a member of the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. At 7 p.m. Thursday, a memorial service will be conducted by members of Delphia Rebekah Lodge No. 62 of Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bill Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens, formerly the IOOF cemetery.

Austin W. Carr

Austin William Carr, 7, of Thomas, died at home Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, surrounded by his family following an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 25, 2001, a son of Ronald William and Melissa Jo Hull Carr.

Also surviving are one brother, Cole Carr, at home; maternal grandparents, Jim and Terry Hull of Davis; paternal great-grandparents, Pauline Carr of Parsons and the late Lewis Carr; aunts, Melanie (Aaron) Paugh of Harman and Rhonda (Jason) Ends of Parsons; and several cousins.

Austin enjoyed school, computers, fishing, four- wheeling, bugs and most of all playing with his brother, Cole.

Beatrice Fahrner

Beatrice Elizabeth Wisekal Fahrner, 95, of Stephens City, Va., and formerly of Helvetia, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, in Berryville, Va.

She was born May 26, 1914, at New York, N.Y., the borough of Manhattan, and spent her childhood in New York City and Emporia, Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William C. and Anna Kolar Wisekal; two brothers, William Wisekal and Emil Wisekal; and her sister, Helen Wisekal McGlone.

She was united in marriage on Jan. 3, 1942, to Stewart Fahrner, whom preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 2003.

Beatrice was a devoted mother and is survived by her son, Robert Fahrner and Dorothy, his wife, of Washington, Pa.; her daughter, Elizabeth Fahrner and Ron Pumphrey, her significant other, of Stephens City, Va.; four grandchildren, Stacy Reynolds, Bill Fahrner, Rick Woody II and Mike Woody; and eight great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Buckhannon Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel, where services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow in the Fahrner Family Cemetery at Helvetia.

Connie Z. Corley

Miss Connie Zoe Corley, 52, a resident of 122 Matthew St., Elkins, departed this life 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. She had been in her usual health and death was unexpected.

She was born July 11, 1957, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Edward Cade and Virginia Faye Corley.

Miss Corley is survived by one, brother, Robert Corley and wife, Brenda, of Fairmont; two sisters,Tina Corley and Betty Corley; one niece, Beth Ann Corley of Mossy; three nephews, Robert Edward Corley of Fairmont, Thomas Alan Corley of Fairmont and Kenneth Newlon and wife, Crissy, of Winterville, Ohio; and several aunts and uncles. Connie is also survived by her two roommates, Stella Sewanger and Belinda Kisner; and her family at ARC of Harrison County, who loved her and will miss her very much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Jenny Corley Busatti.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home, 210 Brandenburg St. in Belington Friday, Sept. 18, from noon to 2 p.m. when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Keith Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington.

Virginia M. Butler

Virginia M. Butler, 81, of Vienna, died Sept. 15, 2009, in Ross Heart Center at Ohio State University.

She was born Feb. 21, 1928, at Valley Head, a daughter of the late John and Ada Arbogast Sharp.

She worked as an licensed practical nurse for St. Joseph's Hospital, was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and Parkersburg District Methodist Women and loved working in her yard and flowers.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, the Rev. L. Norman Butler; two children, Karen Hathaway and her good friend, Chuck Tennant, of Parkersburg and Phillip Butler and his wife, Carol, of Lubeck; four grandchildren, Charles Nickell Jr. and wife, Tammra, Jeremy Hathaway and wife, Michelle, Amanda Cramlet and husband, Mike, and Andrew Butler; eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Sylvia Reed of Queens, Roselene Kyle of Belington and Louise Marstiller of Ravenna, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Myrtle Ware, Raymond Sharp, Ore Mae Pritt, Albert Sharp, Anna Belle Iseli, Lonnie, Glenn and Robert Sharp.

Services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg. Visitation will be today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Local services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 1100 S. Davis Ave. in Elkins with burial following in the Valley Head Cemetery at Valley Head,.

Rosella Simmons

Rosella P. "Rose" Blosser Simmons, 86, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 16, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

She was born Sunday, April 8, 1923, at Parsons, a daughter of the late William Blosser and Minnie Schoonover Blosser.

On May 9, 1956, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Fred Milton Simmons, who survives. They celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Also surviving are one son, Roy "Jim" Oldaker and wife, Rita, of Virginia; two daughters, Sue Bilby and husband, Mike, and Connie "Bootsie" Morris and husband, Todd, all of Hambleton; one brother, Billy Blosser of Weston; three sisters, Georgia McDaniels of Grafton, Bonnie Shingleton of Michigan, and Betty Hull of Buckhannon; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were one son, Robert Oldaker; five brothers, Junior, Willard, Wilfred, Jack and Sam Blosser; and four sisters, Mildred Hansford, Pauline Miller, Juanita Martin and Wanda Newman.

She attended the schools of Randolph County. She was a former employee of Kingsford Charcoal Co., the former Parsons Footwear and the former Parsons Nursery.

She was a member of the Parsons Chapter 91 Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid bingo player.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Sunday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Loren Metzner and Susan Metzner will officiate and interment will follow in Mt. Walter R. Amos

Walter Ray Amos, 86, of Beverly, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at his residence surrounded by family. Ray had been a patient of Mountain Hospice since March 2006.

He was born Saturday, May 12, 1923, at Mill Creek, a son of the late Joseph C. and Hannah Wilson Amos.

On Oct. 6,1945, in Huttonsville, he married the former Leona Ruth Lloyd, who preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 1992.

Ray was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a lifelong resident of Randolph County.

Ray worked as a logger most of his life. For a while, he worked at Tygart Moulding in Beverly.

He retired in the late 1980s as a laborer from the Laborer's Local Union 984. "Rattlesnake Amos," as he was known to many friends, enjoyed woodworking and hunting.

He was an avid gardener. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Beryl Miller, Agnes Magner, Nancy Hammonds and Daisy George; and two brothers, Harley and Leonard Amos.

Ray is survived by nine children, Bobby Amos and wife, Sharon, of Valley Bend, JR Amos and wife, Shirley, of Monterville, Donnie Amos and wife, Tina, of Pennsburg, Pa., Louetta Cogar and husband, Gale, of Webster Springs, Helen Lewis and husband, John, of Beverly, Sharon Mallow and husband, Steve, of Huttonsville, Patsy Howell and husband, Mike, of Beverly, Roger Amos of Beverly and Beverly Amos and companion, Rob Burdette, of Micco, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; loving companion, Prudy McCune of Beverly; one sister, Minnie Johnson of Elkins; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle McCauley of Mill Creek and Mae McCauley of Ohio; and one brother-in-law, Coleman Currence of Mill Creek.

Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 20, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at The Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 100 Meadow Lane, Valley Bend.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ralph Summerfield officiating. Burial with full military honors accorded by Elkins Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3647, Elkins American Legion Post 29 and the West Virginia Honor Guard from Kingwood will follow in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Scotts Lake Road, Beverly.

Anita C. Arbogast

Anita Charm Arbogast, 72, a resident of Beverly, passed away at 1:16 a.m. Thursday, Sept.17, 2009, in the Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown.

She was born Jan. 30, 1937, at Cassity, a daughter of the late Nathan Goff and Blanche Ada Smith Wratchford.

On April 3, 1954, she married Robert Lee Arbogast who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, David and wife, Patty Arbogast, Ronald and wife, Juanita Arbogast, and Timothy Arbogast, all of Beverly; two daughters, Cindy Arbogast and Jason (Catherine) Lanham of Beverly; one brother, Orvid "Bub" Wratchford of Mill Creek; and two sisters, Lorena Bennett of Beverly and Sally Fischer of Fredericksburg, Va. Also surviving are seven granddaughters, Jacklynn Pudder, Michelle and Amy Arbogast, Alexandria Roberts, Chelsea and Megan Weese and Hailey Lanham.

Also preceding her in death were one son, Raymond Goff Arbogast; one brother, John Quinton Wratchford; and four sisters, Thora Pritt, Marietta Bennett, Clarietta Riffle and Wilda Ruth Wratchford.

Arbogast had worked as a nurses aide having retired from Nella's Nursing Home. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Elkins.   From 19 Sep 2009. 

Edna O. Austin

Edna O. Austin, 93, formerly of Warder Avenue, Grafton, passed away on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, in Grafton City Hospital.

She was born Feb. 14, 1916, at Valley Head, a daughter of the late Ira Leonard Channell and Bessie Barb Channell.

Her husband was the late Francis L. Austin, who passed away on Aug. 15, 2009.

She is survived by five children, Ruby Louise Nine of Martinsburg, Ivan Leroy Austin and wife, Dolores Austin, of Fairmont, Dorothy Faye Hostler of Grafton, James Douglas Austin and wife, Carolyn Austin, of Creston, Ohio, and William Dwight Austin and wife, Elizabeth Austin of Morgantown; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Ervin Channell of Baltimore, Md., and Adolph Channell of Beverly; one sister, Elsie Porter of Baltimore, Md.; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Hattie Tacy Hanaford, Gracie Pingley Lowther and Armie Swecker; and one brother, who died in infancy.

Edna was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great- grandmother and sister to her family. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, flowers, canning and sharing with her family. She was Methodist by faith.

The family will receive friends at Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home Monday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. with Assistant Pastor J. Daniel Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.   From 19 Sep 2009.

Johnny Leroy Grant Moyers, 64, of Cabins, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at his residence.

Louise M. Hutton

Louise M. Hutton, 94, a former resident of Elkins, and a resident of Charleston, passed away Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, in Heartland of Charleston.

She was born Oct. 7, 1914, at Huttonsville, a daughter of the late Charles Sidney Hutton and the late Rebecca Ellen Ligget Hutton. She had never married.

Surviving is one brother, James Alfred Hutton and wife, Mary Louise, of St. Albans; one sister, Leigh Ann Wood of Baltimore, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death was one brother, Henry C. Hutton, and one sister, Marian Hutton Covey.

Ms. Hutton enjoyed a long and distinguished career in nursing prior to her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkins and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli officiating. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville.

Ray M. Smith

Ray Milo Smith, 75, a resident of Beverly, died at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at his home following a long battle with cancer.

He was born Aug. 6, 1934, at Huttonsville, the son of the late Floyd Smith and Gladys Yokum Smith Reda.

On Nov. 12, 1958, he was married to Irene Rossey Smith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Christopher M. Smith and wife, Emily, of Montrose, Gregory R. Smith and wife, Brenda, of Valley Bend, Steven B. Smith of Beverly and Matthew B. Smith and wife, Andrea, of Valley Bend; grandchildren, Jessica, Holly, Brent, Lindsey, Spencer, Nathaniel, Arianna and Preston; great-granddaugher, Summer; brother, Sidney Smith and wife, Joan, of Arbovale; sisters, Carole Kyle and husband, Donald, of Mill Creek and Janet Williams and husband, Mike, of Eagle, Idaho; mother in-law, Iva Rossey Marstiller; sisters in-law, Inetta Gadd and husband, Bill, and Iris Rossi and husband, Sal; brother in-law, Neil Irons; several nieces and nephews including a close nephew, Mike Gadd; and many friends and neighbors.

In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Joe Reda; and a sister in-law, Inez Rossey Irons.

Mr. Smith was a miner and retired from the Bethlehem Mines at Century.

Mr. Smith's request for cremation was honored.

Terry W. Moore

Terry Wayne Moore, 47, a resident of 526 Wabash Ave., Belington, departed this life at at 5 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at in the United Presbyterian Memorial Hospital Center in Pittsburg, Pa. He had been in declining health for the past six months but death was unexpected.

He was born May 19, 1962, at Mannington. A son of the late Charles Dallas Moore and Lucy Marstiller Moore who survives at Mannington.

On July 29, 1989, Terry was united in marriage to his soul mate, the former Christine Tusing who resides at their home in Belington.

Moore is survived by one grandmother, Lucille Johnson of Belington; one sister, Wanda Tobery and husband, Mike, of Worthington; mother and father-in-law, Troy and Mary Tusing of Dartmoor; two sisters in-law, Debbie Barb and husband, Ginger, of Dartmoor, Beth Tusing and companion, Jason Keyes, of Dartmoor; four nieces, Tonia Brand and husband, Joey, of Worthington, Jessica Blake and husband, Donnie, of Dartmoor, Melissa and Amy Barb of Dartmoor; one nephew Chet Tobery of Morgantown; two great-nieces, Abbie Brand of Worthington and Destiney Blake of Dartmoor; three great-nephews, Jarrett Blake of Dartmore, Cody and Xander Brand of Worthington.

Moore graduated form the North Marion High School with the class of 1981 and served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Wal-Mart in Elkins.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Belington, a former member of the Church of the Nazarene of Mannington and was a certified camp counselor for the Church of the Nazarene in the state of West Virginia. He was a former member of the Belington Police Reserve and Belington and Randolph County EMS. Terry was presently a certified referee for the North Central referee board and was a former Jerry West basketball coach. He was a former member of the Junior Improvement Committee, a former Belington City councilman serving from April 1999 to March 2009 and had just been appointed to the Belington Zoning Board of Appeals.

At the request of the deceased his remains will be cremated. Terry was an organ donor and his gifts have already helped in excess of 100 people. A time of remembrance and memorial service will be held at a later date.
