Cletus D. Suttle

Cletus D. Suttle, 72, of the Tallmansville Road, Buckhannon, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at his home.

He was born Oct. 25, 1936, in Doddridge County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claus Link and Oma Mae Hurst Suttle; a son, Jay Suttle; two brothers, Calvin and Everett Suttle; and a sister, Lillian Wine.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Robbins Suttle; daughter, Jeannie Gaines of Montrose; three sons, Robert Bowser and Tammy, his wife, of Pleasant Plains, Ill., David Lee Suttle and Amanda, his wife, of Tallahassee, Fla., and Jamie Lee Suttle of Philippi; three grandchildren, George Martin Gaines III, Kayla Jean Gaines and Jaycob Robert Bowser; two brothers, Charles Suttle of Moatsville and Alvin Suttle of Pennsylvania; and one half sister, Emma Lou Jeffries of Weston.

Mr. Suttle retired as a machinist for the Canton Drop Forge Co. in Canton, Ohio, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Military honors at the graveside will be provided by the members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and Disabled American Veterans Chapters 5 and 36.

Norman E. Wratchford, 83, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Sunday evening, June 14, 2009, in Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.

Thelma J. Galford

Thelma Jane Galford, 89, of Green Bank, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, in Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 15, 1920, at Green Bank, she was a daughter of the late Oda Simpson Wooddell and Sadie Harriett Kearns Wooddell.

She was a lifelong resident of Green Bank, was of the Baptist faith, was an avid crocheter and gardener and loved her bingo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Marion Galford in 1986; daughters, Pearl Brown and Shirley Galford; son, William "Bill" Galford; a son-in-law, Arnold Nelson; and two sisters and eight brothers.

Survivors include five daughters, Barbara Hammond and husband, Wayne, of Owings, Md., Louise Miller and husband, Terry, of Bunker Hill, Kay Keller of Inwood, Karla Puffenbarger and husband, John, of Hillsboro and Priscilla Nelson of Durbin; two sons, Wayne Galford and wife, Judy, and Ernest Galford and wife, Betty Gum, all of Arbovale; one brother, Robert Wooddell of Greenbelt, Md; and 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitations will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the funeral home with the Rev. David Rittenhouse officiating.

Interment will be in Arbovale Cemetery.

Mary E. Myers

Mary E. Myers, 68, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, in Ball Memorial Hospital, with her husband and family at her bedside, following an extended illness

She was born Sept. 5, 1940, at Elkins.

She moved to Muncie, Ind., in 1983, to work as a nurse anesthetist for Ball Memorial Hospital. She was very proud that she never lost a life during her employment. She also worked at the Muncie Eye Center and worked as a freelance anesthetist. She was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church in Elkins.

She most enjoyed her family and taking care of her animals and was an expert still board shooter. She was known to crochet everyone in the family a blanket. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Ron K. Myers; daughter, Beth and husband, Jeff, Broschart; three stepchildren, Daniel and wife, Amy, Myers, Susan Myers and Sally Myers; and six grandchildren, Angelina Broschart, Danielle Broschart, Cameron Broschart, Tracy Wheat, Britain Wheat and Roman Wheat. She is also survived by special friends, Jerry and Pat Hicks.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Isabelle (Mullens) Ringler; and a brother, John J. Ringler.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home in Muncie, Ind., with the Rev. Moss officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hawk Cemetery.

Norman Wratchford

Norman Edward Wratchford, 83, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Sunday evening, June 14, 2009, in Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas.

He was born Sunday, Jan. 17, 1926, at Parsons, a son of the late Thomas and Mae Bennett Wratchford.

He was twice married. First, to Pearl Deloris Auvil, who preceded him in death Dec. 15, 2000. Second, to the former Lucille Rhoades, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Joann Evans and husband, Robert, and Norma Jean Young, all of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Twila Lewis and husband, Richard, of Hambleton and three grandchildren, William "Billy" Evans, Joshua and Jeremiah Young.

Preceding him in death were one infant son and one infant daughter, Susan Marie; three brothers, Mont Wratchford, Delvin "Squeak" Wratchford and Harold Wratchford.

He attended the schools of Tucker County. He was employed for more than 30 years with Good Year Aerospace, from which he also retired.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Wednesday, June 17, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman.

Hester C. Crites

Hester Clare Crites, 71, of Rig, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at her home.

Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Rig Assembly of God Church.

James B. Johnson

James Blonda "JB" Johnson, 90, a resident of Bob England Road, Montrose, departed this life Monday morning, June 15, 2009, at his home. He had fought a long battle with cancer and heart disease but it never slowed him down. He passed away while hoeing in his garden.

He was born Thursday, Sept. 12, 1918, in Barbour County, a son of the late James Blonda Johnson and Sarah Arminda Powell Johnson.

On June 21, 1984, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Winona Denise Kisner Johnson, who survives.

Also surviving are four children, Joseph Johnson and wife, Annie, and Janetta Beth Novack and husband, Robert, all of Charleston, S.C., Jena Roy and husband, Scott, of Kerens and April Arbogast and husband, Jeff, of Montrose; six grandchildren, Jennifer Novack and Joshua Johnson of Charleston, S.C., Alisha Arbogast, Emily Arbogast and Tyler Arbogast, all of Montrose and Anna Roy of Kerens.

Preceding him in death were two children, Joni Belinda Johnson and James Blonda Johnson Jr.; three brothers, Rufus, Frank and Junior Leonard Johnson; and four sisters, Hazel Delauder, Wanita Conn, Seebyl Cross and Willa Powell.

"JB" and his family moved to Montrose where he worked many years as a timber cutter and at the family sawmill, hauling timber to the coal miners. The family lived on a large working farm raising livestock and harvesting.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Thursday, June 18, at 11 a.m. Pastor Joseph Johnson and Pastor Kevin Gainer will officiate and interment will follow in the Central Chapel Cemetery in Barbour County.

Mary M. Rowan

Mary Mae Lambert Rowan, 76, a resident of Elkins, passed away June 14, 2009.

She was born July 28, 1932, at Wymer, a daughter of the late Jennings B. Lambert and Tina M. Lambert.

She was formerly married to Laral D. Rowan, who passed away Dec. 23, 2001.

Surviving are one daughter, Dixie Smith and husband, Michael, of Lewisburg; two brothers, Willie Lambert and wife, Charlotte, and Delbert Lambert and wife, Gladys, all of Elkins; and three sisters, Gladys Thompson and husband, Archie, of Alpena, Hazel Lambert of Bowden and Daisy Thompson of Wymer. Two grandsons, Jerry Smith and wife, Jill, of Covington, Va., J. Scott Smith and wife, Kristi, of Calhoun, Ga.; and six great-grandchildren, Chavis, Megan, Hannah, Hunter, Chase and Brooke also survive.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Wilson and Franklin Lambert.

Mary was a homemaker and attended the Mountain View Missionary Baptist Church.

Friends may call Thursday, June 18, at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. Pastor Mike Boggs will officiate and interment will follow in the American Legion's Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale.

Isaiah Henry Bruce, 85, of Petersburg, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, in Grant Memorial Hospital.

Jeannine C. Riffle

Jeannine C. Riffle, 51, of Walkersville, passed away June 10, 2009.

She was born June 25, 1957.

She is survived by her husband, Paul J. Riffle; mother-in-law, Marion Riffle; sister-in-law, Pamela Sue (Riffle) Kurilko; brother-in-law, Kurt Kurilko of Barberton, Ohio; her mother, Genevieve Bing; brothers, Thomas and James Bing of Sandusky and Scott Bing of Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Carol Baum and Nancy Hagelberger of Sandusky; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene W. Bing, in 2008; and her father-in-law, Paul R. Riffle, in 2006.

She was a supervisory legal instruments examiner in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Section of the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services Division. Mrs. Riffle began her career with the FBI on Nov. 24, 1996, as a mail and file clerk. In 1998, she accepted a position with the NICS Section where she was promoted to a supervisor in July 2005.

Throughout Mrs. Riffle's FBI career, her outstanding performance was recognized many times. She received the Federal Woman of the Year Award in the professional supervisor category recognizing her outstanding accomplishments, which had a positive impact on women in the federal work force. Other recognitions included On-The-Spot awards, monetary awards, Time-Off Awards and a Quality Step Increase that recognize employees who perform quality service in an exceptional manner while on duty or in the performance of duties related to FBI employment. Jeannine served as a role model to many and inspired her employees to win numerous awards in recognition of their own performance. Mrs. Riffle proudly served the FBI with unmatched dedication and commitment.

Paul R. Flanagan

Mr. Paul Richard Flanagan, 75, a resident of the Kingsville Community, departed this life at 7:45 pm Wednesday, June 17, 2009, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. He had been in declining health for the past few weeks.

He was born Feb. 12, 1934, near the Kingsville Community in Randolph County, a son of late Clarence Lee and Rosie Hamilton Flanagan.

On Nov. 20, 1982, he was united in marriage to the former Linda Lou Wilson, who survives at their residence.

Other survivors include one son, Michael Eugene Flanagan and wife, Regina, of Kingsville; and daughters include Katherine Faye Warner and husband, Wayne, of Norton and Paula Jean Flanagan of Beverly. Also surviving are Stephanie and Jarrett of Beverly, who were special to Mr. Flanagan. Grandchildren surviving are Vincent Paul Gibson, Christopher Scott Gibson and Michael Paul Flanagan. Siblings surviving include four sisters, Lucille Spencer of Junior, Louise Esposito of Belington, Betty Spencer of Buckhannon and Mae Chapman of Melbourne, Fla. Brothers surviving are Ray Flanagan and Bud Flanagan of Belington.

Mr. Flanagan was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Victoria Della Jean "Vicki" Flanagan; five brothers, Earl M. Flanagan, Stanley Flanagan, Amos Flanagan, Roger Flanagan and June Flanagan; and one sister, Helen Flanagan.

Mr. Flanagan was a self-employed logger and in earlier years was employed in bridge construction. He was a member of the Belington Church of the Nazarene and at the time of his passing he was attending Faith Deliverance Ministries in Belington.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 21, and on Monday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. F.L. "Wink" McQuain and Pastor Richard Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in the Flanagan Family Cemetery. Sandra S. Knotts

Sandra "Sandi" Snider Knotts, 61, a former resident of Parsons, and a resident of Wheeling, departed this life early Wednesday morning, June 17, 2009, in St. Joseph's Hospital at Lexington, Ky.

She was born Wednesday, June 2, 1948, at Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Edward Lee and Grace Ashby Snider.

On April 22, 1970, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Terry Andrew Knotts, who survives.

Also surviving are one brother, Ralph Edward Snider of Parsons; one sister, Nancy Snider Hershman and husband Dallas "JR."; two nephews, Joseph J. Hershman and Kurt E. Snider and wife, Olivia "Liv;" two nieces, Devon Snider Berry and husband, John, and Ashley Hershman Clevenger and husband, Chad; one great-nephew, Kaleb Snider; and two great nieces, Amara and Lillian Snider.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1966. She was a graduate of Berea College of Berea, Ky, with a degree in business and West Liberty State College in Wheeling with a degree in education. She was employed as a teacher with Bishop Donahue High School for 17 years, and from 1998 to 2001, she was an employee of West Virginia Business College as a business teacher. She was an avid traveler and West Virginia University and Steelers football fan. She loved her nieces and nephews.

Virginia G. Sheets

Virginia Gray Gum Sheets, 89, of Green Bank, went to be with the Lord June 17, 2009. She had been in failing health.

Virginia was born April 16, 1920, at Cass, to the late Markwood and Dorothy Arbogast Gum.

On Dec. 21, 1938, she married Phillip A. Sheets, who died Jan. 5, 2009.

Virginia was active with the Methodist faith and WSCS. She was a member of the Farm Bureau, AARP and worked her senior years at Green Bank Library under the Green Thumb Program. She worked at radio station WVMR where she had programs called Grandma Jenny Story Time and Senior Power Hour. Primarily though she was a farmerette and loved to share the lives of baby animals with school children and those who visited the farm.

Other than her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Carpenter Salyers; brother, Harold Gum; and a grandson, Phillip Ernest Siders.

Surviving Virginia are her children, Phillip Edward Sheets and wife, Alice, of Sumerset, Pa., Rose Marie Smith and husband, Lewis, of Red Creek, Martha Siders of De Graff, Ohio, and Samuel Sheets and wife, Beverly, of Spencer; brother, Donald Clark Gum of Roncevert; sister-in-law, Betty Guill of Culloden; and 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale with the Rev. Frank Naglic officiating. Burial will follow in Arbovale Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Belva Delauder

Miss Belva Audra Delauder, 83, a resident of Belington, departed this life at 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. She had been in declining health for the past several months.

She was born July 25, 1925, at Belington, a daughter of the late Winison "Whimp" and Lanie May Cross Delauder.

Miss Delauder is survived by one brother, James Okey Delauder of Belington; one sister, Bearl Jean Tenney and husband, Ernest, of Belington; sister-in-law, Carrie L. Delauder; nephews, Mike Delauder, Roger Tenney and Mark Blankenship; nieces, Norma Jean Tenney, Patty Delauder and fiance, Mike Wilcox, Kathy Summerfield and husband, Glenn, Sandy Delauder, Pammy Delauder, and Christy Philips and husband, Jeff; great-nieces and nephews, Samantha Sullivan and husband, Donnie, Amanda Summerfield and fiance, Ronnie Talbott, Jennifer Delauder, Steven Delauder, Jeffrey Summerfield, and Justin Delauder and fiance Kitty Hanifan; great-great-nieces and nephews include Lindsay Talbott, Logan Sullivan, Chavez and Hunter Delauder.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles William Delauder, Junior Earl Delauder and Bernard Delauder.

Miss Delauder formerly attended the schools of Barbour County and the Hunters Fork Church near Belington.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 210 Brandenburg St., Belington, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, June 22, and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. when final rites will then be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Larry Poling officiating. Interment will follow in the Lambert Chapel Cemetery near Belington.
