Dorothy L. Nine

Dorothy Lou Funk Nine, 62, a resident of Salt Lick Road, Montrose, departed this life Sunday afternoon, March 29, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital emergency department.

Imogene Hovatter

Imogene Carol "Jean" Ware McCauley Hovatter, 73, a resident of Parsons, died peacefully in her sleep, Thursday, March 26, 2009, at her home.

She was born Tuesday, May 21, 1935, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Orla and Orda Jones Ware.

She was twice married. First on Nov. 21, 1953, she was married to Truman Porter McCauley, who precedes her in death, and then on Aug. 24, 1962, at Red House, Md., she was married to Orval "Jack" Hovatter, who survives. They had celebrated 46 years of marriage.

Surviving are one daughter, Lynn Monahan and husband, Junior, of Parsons, and a beloved grandson, Bo Carr of Fairmont; two sisters, Mildred Schepis of Ohio, and Mary Matthey and husband, Dave, of Florida; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends that she loved dearly.

Preceding her in death were one brother, Murl "Bud" Ware and wife, Delores; and one brother-in-law, Tony Schepis.

She was a graduate of Phillip Barbour High School with the class of 1954 and worked in several local businesses. She was primarily a homemaker and nurturer, taking care of or befriending so many over the years. She was an excellent cook and many will miss her homemade treats, just one of the many ways she showed her love. She always had time for others, helping in any way or just listening with a caring heart.

Although at home with the Lord now, her legacy and love will live on forever in the hearts of her friends and family. For her lifetime of loving, caring and selfless giving, we give thanks to the Lord for her presence and touched lives. "And her children shall rise up and call her blessed."

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Tuesday, March 31, at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow in the Pittman Cemetery in Barbour County.

Richard S. Fowler

Richard Steele "Rocky" Fowler, 82, a resident of Thomas, and more recently a patient of Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas, passed away at midnight Thursday, March 26, 2009, in the nursing home.

Rocky was born Jan. 1, 1927, at Burnsboro, Pa., a son of the late Louis and Flora Alma Miller Fowler.

Surviving are three daughters, Lisa Anne Pratt and husband, Bryan, of Harman, Robin Ann Brown and husband, Joey, of Crossville, Tenn., and Terri Flo Copeland of Harman; three sons, Lewis Paul "Butch" Fowler of Crossville, Tenn., Paul Steele Fowler and wife, Kimberly, of Hendricks and Mark Allen Fowler of Harman; one sister, Flo Anne Horner of Leesburg, Va.; two brothers, Bill Fowler of Ohio, and Lewis Fowler of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, James Layton and Vanna Lewis of Tennessee, Wyatt Fowler and Madison Fowler of Hendricks, Brandon White, Ethan Pratt and Hayley Fowler of Harman; two great-grandchildren, Luthur and Pearl Mary Lee Layton of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Rocky was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Fowler.

Rocky had enjoyed and mastered several careers in his lifetime, having been a meat cutter, barber, coal miner and bartender. He had been the owner and operator of Fowler's Choice Meats of Madison, Ohio. Rocky loved to cook and will be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather and friend. He served with the U.S. Army and was Catholic by faith. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Rocky's wishes for cremation were honored. Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, from the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Thomas with the Most Rev. Fr. Timothy Grassi presiding.

Aubry Garrison

Aubry A. "Gary" Garrison Sr., 74, of Sunrise, Ohio, died March 29, 2009.

He was born Dec. 8, 1934, at Newport News, Va., to the late Morris and Clarcy Garrison.

He served in the U.S, Marine Corps in the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Davis & Elkins College and retired from International Harvester Credit Corp.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Arnold Garrison and Morris Garrison, and a host of aunts and uncles.

Aubry is survived by his wife, Shirley Garrison; children, Aubry "JR" (Mary) Garrison of East Liberty, Ohio, Gregory (Gloria) Garrison of Pataskala, Ohio, Mitchell Garrison of Zanesville, Ohio, Candace (David) Frangis of Middleburg, Ohio, and Timothy (Lisa) Garrison of Brecksville, Fla.; stepchildren, Terri Thompson and Kathy Kleiber of Grove City, Ohio, and Christy Kleiber of Nelsonville, Ohio; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be at 11a.m. and the funeral at noon Thursday April 2, at The Pataskala Church of the Nazarene, 8100 Hazelton-Etna Road, Ohio Route 310, Pataskala, Ohio. Burial will be in Pataskala Cemetery.

C. Wayne Whetzel, 59, of Jenkins Run Road, Moorefield, died Monday, March 30, 2009, at his home.

Family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Petersburg Church of God with Bishops Aaron A. Davidson and G. Glenden Berg officiating. Burial will be in the Brake Cemetery at Dorcas.

Charles K. Morris

Charles K. Morris, 58, of Lumberport, died at 930 p.m. Saturday, at the home of his daughter in Salem Ohio.

He was born Aug. 26, 1950, at Clarksburg, a son of the late Charles Lanier and Nancy (Laughlin) Morris.

He was formerly employed at Rite-Aid as a district supervisor for 15 years and was a Christian by faith.

He is survived by a daughter, Brenda J. (Henry) Ford of Salem, Ohio; and two sons, Scott (Terri) Morris of New Hudson, Mich., and Matthew Morris of Buckhannon. He is also survived by one sister, Lois (Carrol) Harris of Buckhannon; two brothers, Jim (Mary) Morris and Jon (Elizabeth) Laughlin of Clarksburg; and four grandchildren, Matthew Morris of Buckhannon, Dylan and Derek Morris of New Hudson, Mich., and Cole Ford of Salem, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pam Morris.

A private family burial will take place in West Virginia. There will be no services or calling hours.

Daisy Marie Pritt Quick, 87, a former resident of Mill Creek, and for the past several years, a resident of Colonial Place, departed this life Monday morning, March 30, 2009, in the nursing home.

Daisy M. Mallow

Mr. David M. Mallow, 88, of Upper Tract, died Monday, March 30, 2009, in Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

He was born Sept. 2, 1920. at Kline, the son of the late Otha A. Mallow and Agatha L. Dean Mallow.

He was a 1941 graduate of Franklin High School and attended Potomac State College. He was a farmer, custodian at Upper Tract Elementary School, member of the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church and a member of the Potomac Valley Mens' Choir.

On Dec. 16, 1955, he married Vada R. Ratliff Mallow, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Gail and husband, Vernon Simmons, of Monterey, Va., and Ginger and husband, Casey Hartman, of Dayton, Va.; three sons, D. Neal Mallow of Kirby, Brent Mallow of Upper Tract and Leonard and wife, Donna Mallow, of Upper Tract; two sisters, Lillian Sites of Keyser and Mary Ann Alt of Petersburg; and six grandchildren, Derek and Holli Simmons, Tara, Seara and Trina Mallow and Tiffany Hartman.

He was preceded in death by a daughter.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 2, at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church at Kline with the Rev. Rita Beeman and Pastor Otis "Buzz" Weatherholt officiating. Burial will be at Kline Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

Doris Eugenia Adams, 82, of Aurora, passed away March 29, 2009, in Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Dorothy L. Nine

Dorothy Lou Funk Nine, 62, a resident of Salt Lick Road, Montrose, departed this life Sunday afternoon, March 29, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital emergency department. She had been in her usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.

She was born Sunday, Jan. 12, 1947, at Yorks Run Community, Preston County, a daughter of the late Richard Paul Funk Sr. and Betty Lou Triplett Funk.

On May 8, 1965, she was married to Carl Edward Nine, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Timothy Allen Nine of Elkins; one daughter, Tessa Michelle Henry and husband, Kevin, of Montrose; two brothers, Richard Paul "Skip" Funk Jr. and wife, Roxanne, of Newton Falls, Ohio, and and Mitchel Ray Funk Sr. of Reedsville; one sister, Diana Louise Wolfe and husband, Harlin, of Horse Shoe Run; six grandchildren, Matthew Nine of Martinsburg, Coedy and Ricky Nine both of Elkins, Tiffany Henry Stark and husband, Tony, Branson Henry and Rachael Henry, all of Montrose; one great-grandson, Gavin Anthony Stark; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a graduate of Fellowsville High School with the class of 1964, was a homemaker and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Rebekah Lodge 98, the Kerens Homemakers and Mercy Chapel. She loved crafts, crocheting, quilting and puzzle books.

The family will received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday. At 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, the Pleasant Grove Rebekah Lodge 98 will conduct ritualistic services. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Thursday, April 2, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Charles L. Stevens and Pastor Terry Cannon will officiate and interment will follow in Shaw Cemetery at Denver, Preston County.

Halcy Vandevander

Halcy E. Vandevander, 90, of Kerens, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. She had been a resident of Nella's Nursing Home in Elkins for the past seven years.

Born Dec. 18, 1918, in Pendleton County, to the late Martha Mullenax, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Halcy was a member of the Elk Mountain Presbyterian Church and worked all her life farming and was retired from the Hanover Shoe Co.

She and her husband, Virgil, were proud foster parents, who were credited with raising more than 100 foster children during the course of their lives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Vandevander; and four sons, Wayne, Tommy, David and Harlan "Pete" Vandevander. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Vandevander; and a brother, Harlan Mullenax.

Survivors include three sons, Bob Vandevander and wife, Nanette, of Elkins, Bill Vandevander and wife, Jo Ann, of Charleston and Randall Vandevander of Bartow; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale with the Rev. Harold Mullenax officiating.

Interment will follow in Vandevander Cemetery on Elk Mountain. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home in Arbovale.

Johnny A. Titus

Johnny Alan Titus, 68, of Arthurdale, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009, at his home in Arthurdale.

He was born May 4, 1940, at West Mansfield, Ohio, a son of the late Johnny C. and Doris Meddles Titus.

He worked for J.W. Ruby at the turkey farm in Arthurdale and at Sterling Faucet in Reedsville prior to starting his own business. He owned and operated the Reedsville Dairy Queen for many years, until he retired in 1997. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and enjoyed flying airplanes in his free time.

He is survived by his daughter, Dee Titus and spouse, Colby Powell, of Morgantown; two sons, Charles and spouse, Burma Titus, of Morgantown and Johnny Titus and companion, Barb Cadamus, of Morgantown; two sisters, Noel Borgen of Sequim, Wash., and Fran Blosser of Tunnelton; a brother, Richard Titus of Elkins; 12 grandchildren, Jonathan Titus, Matthew Titus, Travis Titus, Joshua Titus, Cecile Titus, Mandy Titus, Destiny Titus, Jairus Laraway, Alex Simpson, Megan Powell, Jenny Powell and Renee Powell; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah Titus and Evan Titus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jeannine Woodall.

A memorial service was conducted March 18 at Masontown Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Robert Ringer officiating.

Daisy M. Quick

Daisy Marie Pritt Quick, 87, a former resident of Mill Creek, and for the past several years, a resident of Colonial Place, departed this life Monday morning, March 30, 2009, in the nursing home.

She was born Tuesday, June 28, 1921, at Elkwater, a daughter of the late Flavius W. Pritt and Caroline Kimbrew Pritt.

On June 1, 1941, at the Huttonsville Presbyterian Church, she was married to William "Donald" Quick, who preceded her in death Nov. 28, 2002.

Surviving her are two sisters, Violet Goff of Sunset, Ariz., and Kathleen Goff of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was one infant, and two brothers, Warden Junior Pritt and Bayard Pritt.

Daisy attended the two- room school at Elkwater and graduated from Tygart Valley High School with the class of 1941. She was a homemaker and, along with her husband, was the owner and operator of the Quick Service Station from 1952 to 1991. She was a member of the Mill Creek Senior Citizens, the Mill Creek Presbyterian Church, where she had served as secretary/treasurer for 35 years and the Elder Women of the Church. She was also a noted church historian.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday. On Friday, April 3, Daisy will be moved to the Mill Creek Presbyterian Church where friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. Pastor Gordon B. White Jr. will officiate and interment will follow in the Mill Creek Cemetery.

Ercil L. Martin

Mr. Ercil Lee Martin, 67, a resident of Valley Bend, passed away Monday evening, March 30, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 1, 1941, at Elkins, a son of the late Orpha Martin.

He was married to Loretta Wilson, who survives at Valley Bend. He was formerly married to Wanda Wileman, Frances Wiseman and Frances K. White.

Also surviving are six sons, Denver, Johnny, Eugene and David Martin all of Ohio, Daniel Martin and Travis Martin of Valley Bend; two daughters, Frances Higgins of Ohio and Tammy Cummins of Elkins; two stepsons, Keith Wilson of Elkins and Timmy Wilson of Mill Creek; three brothers, Junior McGee, Jim McGee and Jerry McGee, all of Valley Bend; and one sister, Leona McElwain of Kerens. Several grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several aunts and uncles also survive.

Also preceding him in death were his stepfather, Michael McGee; a son, Robert Martin; a daughter, Robin Martin; and a brother, Gary McGee.

Mr. Martin attended the schools of Randolph County and was a retired laborer. He attended the Riverside Church at Junior.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Virginia Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery at East Dailey.

Gloria S. Warner

Gloria Starlene Seese Warner, 73, a resident of Route 1, Elkins, passed away March 26, 2009.

She was born Dec. 2, 1935, in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Willis S. Seese and Thelma M. Golden Seese.

On Dec. 1, 1957, she was married to Smilley Kenny Warner, who preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 2003.

Surviving are one sister, Joyce Myers of Uniontown, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death were one brother, Robert Seese; and two sisters, Vieva Gilbert and Shirley Zinn.

Mrs. Warner was a homemaker and a member of the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church.

Bill and Sandy Myers would like to graciously thank everyone from the bottom of their hearts for all the help, especially from the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church members and neighbors, who helped Gloria Starlene Warner over the years in her times of need.

A private graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m. March 31 at the J. K. Warner Family Cemetery near Riverton. The Rev. Randy Long officiated and interment followed.

Mildred J. Scott

Mildred June Scott, 60, of Buckhannon, passed away Monday, March 30, 2009, in Saint Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon.

She was born May 17, 1948, at Canaan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Santford and Viola Mae Collins Chidester; a sister, Shirley Kimble; and two brothers, Theodore and Gene Chidester.

Surviving are her husband, Willard Junior Scott, whom she married on Sept. 1, 1983; four children, David Huskey of Welch, Sheila Cunningham and her husband, Michael, of Rock Cave, Terra Scott and her fiance, Jonathan Robinson, of Crawford and Justin Scott and his companion, Amy Ables, of Buckhannon; and six stepchildren, Willard Scott and his wife, Vicki, of Buckhannon, Tammie Oldaker and husband, Scott, of Kesling Mill, Debra Tenney and her husband, Mike, of Ellamore, Zane Scott of Belington, Lonnie Scott and his wife, Roxie, of Excelsior and Michael Scott and his wife, Kimberley, of Belington. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, David Rae Huskey Heatherly, April Huskey, Alex Huskey Heatherly, Levi Huskey Heatherly, Joseph Carpenter Jr., Alisha Carpenter, Andrew Carpenter and Hailey Hinchman; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

She is survived by two sisters, Hazel Bennett of Indiana, and Gladys Chidester of Buckhannon; three brothers, Hartzel Chidester of Rock Cave, Basil Chidester of Canaan and Gerald Chidester of Buckhannon.

Mildred was a homemaker and a Jehovah Witness by faith. She loved life, her grandchildren, her flower gardens and yard sales.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, with Pastor Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Canaan Cemetery.

William L. Holbert

William Lloyd Holbert, 45, a resident of S. Main St., Philippi, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 2, 1963, at Philippi, a son of the late Earl Duane and Donna Louise Holbert.

Surviving are one son, Billy Holbert of Buckhannon; one stepson, Derrick J. Laughly of Kingwood; one stepdaughter, Samantha Laughly of Kingwood; and three brothers, Lesley W. Holbert of Belleuve, Neb., Denny E. Holbert and Danny C. and wife, Angie Holbert, both of Philippi.

Daisy M. Quick

Daisy Marie Pritt Quick, 87, a former resident of Mill Creek, and for the past several years, a resident of Colonial Place, departed this life Monday morning, March 30, 2009, in the nursing home.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins. On Friday, April 3, Daisy will be moved to the Mill Creek Presbyterian Church where friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. Pastor Gordon B. White Jr. will officiate and interment will follow in the Mill Creek Cemetery.

Elizabeth L. Fulton

Elizabeth Lorraine Fulton, 81, of Belington, went to the river to meet her late husband, Bill, on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in Robinson Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.

She was born June 7, 1927, at Junior, a daughter of the late George and Mabel (Calain) Hymes.

On Jan. 5, 1946, she was married to William Forrest Fulton, who preceded her in death on July 22, 1999.

She is survived by a son, Fred and daughter-in-law, Karen Fulton, of Springfield, Ohio, granddaughter, Jill, grandson, David Diamond, great-grandchildren, Jackson and Elaina Diamond; a daughter, June and son-in-law, Larry Johnson, of Ravenna, Ohio, granddaughter, Nicole Sandlin and great-grandson, Corey Zickefoose; grandson, John Melnik and granddaughter, Darcy; great-grandchildren, Kara, Jay and Isabella Melnik; grandson, Larry Johnson Jr., great-grandchildren, Brandon and Katie Johnson; great-great-grandson, Devon; sisters, Mildred and Ernie Heatherly and Betty and Clifford Carpenter, all of Warren, Ohio, and Dorothy and Art Johnson, in North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Hymes; and granddaughter, Rachael Johnson.

Mrs. Fulton was a 1945 graduate of Belington High School. She retired in 1982 from the Packard Electric Division of General Motors in Warren, Ohio, and, in 1983, she and Bill returned to their loving state of West Virginia.

She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church at Junior and was a member of the Belington Emergency Squad Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of Laurel Mt. Post 410 Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was a member of Philippi Chapter 41 Order of the Eastern Star and a former member of Belington Chapter 68. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and the Dames of Malta.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 5, from the Bethel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Clifford Carpenter will officiate and interment will follow in the Knights of Pythias Mountain View Cemetery at Junior.

Friends may call at Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m.. until noon Sunday, when Mrs. Fulton will be moved to the Bethel United Methodist Church where friends may call from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour.

Mr. Ercil Lee Martin, 67, a resident of Valley Bend, passed away Monday evening, March 30, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

Evelyn Haymond

Evelyn J. Haymond, 74, of Fairmont passed away Tuesday evening, March 31, 2009, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born at Buckhannon on Aug. 20, 1934, a daughter of the late Vaden and Helen Burr Clark.

Evelyn was the retired office manager of Hardman's Exxon and Wrecker Service of Fairmont, later becoming Brady's Exxon and Towing Service. She and her husband were the former owners of Haymond's Wrecker Service in Fairmont for many years.

She was a member of the Eldora United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 34 of Fairmont and was an active West Virginia University fan. Along with her husband, she enjoyed traveling to WVU football games, both home and away, and to NASCAR races for more than 40 years in their motor home. Together and with family and friends, they attended several motor home rallys. They were members of the Family Motor Coach Association.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Ralph G. Haymond of Fairmont; and three sons, Ralph G. "Jerry" Haymond II and his wife, Kathy, Randall C. "Randy" Haymond and his significant other, Kathy Hall, and Ronald B. "Ronnie" Haymond, all of Fairmont. Also surviving are a sister Ruth Ellen Smith and her husband, Gene, of Alexandria, Va., as well as four grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Beth Ann Haymond and Nicole Haymond Puccio and her husband, Larry, all of Fairmont. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Robert J. Dowell

Robert James "Jim" Dowell, 84, of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.

He was born Nov. 28, 1924, at Buckhannon, a son of the late William Lewis and Bessie Jane Corathers Dowell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rhonda Gail Shipley; three brothers, Myers, Page and Keith Dowell; and two sisters, Nora Smith and Dorothy Sowder.

Mr. Dowell is survived by his wife, Evelyn Simmons Dowell of Buckhannon; two daughters, Barbara Ann Shipley and husband, Randal, and Camella L. Crites and husband, Tom, all of Buckhannon; two sons, James E. Dowell and wife, Louise, of Buckhannon and Roger Alan Dowell and wife, Candace, of Summerville, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Roxanne Harlow and family of Buckhannon and Vicky Newlon and family of Cleveland, Ohio; three stepsons, Bob Simmons and family of Buckhannon, Donnie Simmons and family of Weston and Steve Simmons and family of Cleveland, Ohio; two granddaughters, Melissa Dowell of Pickens, S.C., and Katrina Dendy; and three great-grandchildren of Greenville, S.C.; two grandsons, Travis Shipley and Gerald Zirkle and wife, Rena, and great-grandson, Weldon, all of Buckhannon; two stepgranddaughters, Jennifer Cutright and husband, Caleb, of Bridgeport and Jillana Chenoweth and girls of Jane Lew; three stepgrandsons, Chuck Nolan and family of Buckhannon, Ronnie Nolan and wife, Gwen, and family of Stanley, N.C., and Scott Chenoweth of Shinnston; a brother, Howard Jonathan Dowell of Buckhannon; a sister, Katherine Goldsmith and husband, Jack, of Greenwood; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Dowell of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a carpenter and a Methodist by faith.

Mr. Floyd Leonard White, 69, a resident of Beverly, passed away Tuesday evening, March 31, 2009, in the Hospice Care In-Patient Center in Elkins.

Mrs. Teresa Gail Melson, 55, a resident of Chantilly, Va., passed away suddenly Monday morning, March 30, 2009, in Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Va.

She was born Dec. 16, 1953, at Fort Monroe Army Base, Hampton, Va., the daughter of the late Stephen Alexander and Elsie Louise White.

Mrs. Melson is survived by her husband, Thomas Mahlen Melson of Chantilly, Va.; son, Allen Wayne Melson and wife, Irene Renee Melson, of Monticlair, Va., formally of Elkins; daughter, Jennifer Ann Chmara and husband, Ehren Kenn Chmara, of Hopewell, Va.; and two grandchildren of Allen and Irene Melson, Justin and Katelyn Melson.

Family and friends will be received from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, Fairfax, Va. Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 5, at the funeral home with the Rev. Gregory Studley officiating. A visitation will follow on Tuesday, April 7, at R. Goldie M. Arey

Goldie Mae Arey, 82, of Luray, Va., died Thursday, April 2, 2009, in MontVue Nursing Home in Luray, Va.

She was born Nov. 14, 1926, at Luray, Va.. a daughter of the late William Jacob Gochenour and Grace Ellen Cave Gochenour.

On June 27, 1949, she married Harry "Ed" Arey, who preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1995.

Survivors include three sons, Gerald Cave Arey of Buckhannon, Michael Blane Arey of Boise, Ind., and Kevin Greg Arey of Buckhannon; one daughter, Edwyna Michelle Arey of Athens, Ga.; one stepson, Edwin Wayne Arey of Staunton, Va.; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and five brothers and three sisters.

She was also preceded in death by one stepson, Truman Wine Arey, one grandchild, four brothers and one sister.

She was a member of Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at The Bradley Funeral Home Inc. in Luray, Va. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 5, at Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren with Pastor Gary Major officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Ruth A. Koerber

Ruth A. Collins Koerber, 84, passed away at the Willows Center on April 3, 2009.

She was born Aug. 7, 1924, at Blue Springs, a daughter of the late William and Viola Green.

Ruth Collins Koerber was first married to Lawrence Collins, in 1941, who preceded her in death Sept. 15, 1970. Ruth and Lawrence Collins are survived by seven children, Carolyn Long and husband, Jack, of Vienna, Juanita Armstrong of Tennessee, Dottie Young and husband, Brian, of Columbia Station, Ohio, Donald Collins and wife, Beverly, of Amherst, Ohio, Patricia Vandevender and husband, David, of Kerens, Debbie Smith of New Martinsville and Brenda Huey and husband, Harold, of Vermillion, Ohio. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth was married to Robert Koerber in 1977. Robert Koerber also preceded her in death in April 2006.

Ruth was a member of the Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 6, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna with Mark Mason officiating. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens at 3 p.m.
