Alexander Verner Dahlin Jr., 92, died on Thursday, Jan. 29, just 13 days after his wife of 68 years, Janice (Shreve) Dahlin, passed away. They lived at Colonial Place in Elkins for the past four years. Prior to that they lived on Sunset Drive in a unique home they built in 1974, which was their pride and joy.

Verner "A.V." was born at Houtzdale, Pa., in 1916 and graduated from the Altoona School of Commerce. He came to West Virginia to work as an accountant for Bethlehem Steel at a mine in Monterville. He was a veteran of World War II and served in France as a staff sergeant. Adept at making friends out of strangers, he worked in insurance sales, and later sold office supplies and furnished schools, banks and offices across West Virginia for McManus Office Supply. He was a wonderful father who was very proud of his Swedish heritage, and he remained sharp and active until the end.

He is survived by his three children and four grandchildren, Alexandra "Sandy" Dahlin of Parkersburg and her two sons, Shawn and Alec Smith; Alexander Verner "Alex" Dahlin III of Durham, N.C.; and Nissa Dahlin-Brown of Knoxville, Tenn., and her husband, George, and children, Marshall and Madeline Brown.

The family does not plan any service, as Verner wished, but will gather in Elkins at a later date to celebrate the lives of Janice and Verner Dahlin. Memorials may be made to the Randolph County Senior Center or the Randolph County Humane Society. From 2 Feb 2009.

Frantie Louise Warner, 96, of Buckhannon, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Marlene.

She was born Oct. 11, 1912, at Tallmansville, a daughter of the late Cain and Ellen Tenney Wilfong.

On May 3, 1933, she married Guy S. Warner, who preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1999.

In addition to her parents and husband, Frantie was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Mary Katherine Wilfong; four brothers, Opha, Emerson, Carroll and Coleman Wilfong; and five sisters, Ora Bennett, Myrtle Hornbeck, Ethel, Addie Mae and Reta Pearl Wilfong.

She is survived by three daughters, Marlene Ledbetter of Buckhannon, Ethel Miller of Hunker, Pa., and Arlena Marple and husband, Monzell, of Hackers Creek; two grandsons, Guy Russell Miller of Charleston, S.C., and Mark Marple of Hackers Creek; three granddaughters, Linda Smail of Smithton, Pa., Jacqueline Bennett of Hodgesville and Datha Diane Powers of Hodgesville; four great-grandsons, Brian Miller of Charlotte, N.C., Jeremy Bennett of Lawrenceville, Ill., Ian Smail of Philadelphia, Pa., and Steven Powers of Hodgesville; and four great-granddaughters, Amanda Miller of Charlotte, N.C., Samantha Leput of Cumberland, Md., Danielle Powers of Hodgesville and Chelsea Smail of Smithon, Pa.

She was a homemaker and restaurant cook.

Homer Earl Likens, 87, a resident of Hambleton, departed this life early Friday morning, Jan. 30, 2009, in Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas.

Stephen Ralph Workman Sr., 57, of Buckhannon, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, in the Charleston Area Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 2, 1951, at Madison, a son of Irene Workman of Seth and the late Benjamin "Benny" Workman.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Workman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Andrea Workman; two sons, Gunnery Sgt. Stephen Ralph Workman Jr. of Jacksonville, N.C., and Gunnery Sgt. Shawn Ray Workman and wife, April, of Plato, Mo.; one daughter, Consuela Lynn Keener and husband, Jason, of Summersville; one very special stepdaughter, Jami Allison Cook; eight grandchildren, Stephen Ralph Workman III, Carissa and Brooke Thompson of Ashford, Shawn "Austin" and Hunter Workman of Plato, Mo., Michael Monhollen, and Colten and Jace Keener of Summersville; one great-granddaughter, Keira Stewart of Ashford; and one sister, Wanda Workman and husband, Clyde, of Comfort.

Steve held many electrical certifications related to his work. He was a certified master electrician through the state of West Virginia, a certified mine electrician for surface and underground installations through the state of West Virginia, a certified construction superintendent through the state of West Virginia and a certified mine electrician for surface and underground installations through the United States Department of Labor. Steve began his career in the Kanawha Valley working for Cedar Creek Coal Co. Upon moving to Buckhannon, he worked for Island Creek Coal Co. at the Tallmansville Surface Mine. After that operation closed, Steve worked for about one year for Arch Coal Co. in Logan County. For the past 19 years, Steve had worked for Electrotech in Buckhannon as electrical superintendent.

Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Dave Cunningham officiating. Hazel Wilson Poling, 95, a resident of the Fork Mountain Community, Parsons, departed this life early Monday morning, Feb. 2, 2009, at her home in her sleep.

She was born Sunday, Aug. 10, 1913, at Fork Mountain, a daughter of the late Clarence Wilson and Clara Pennington Wilson.

On Aug. 29, 1934, at Red House, Md., she was married to Gaston Earl Poling, who preceded her in death Nov. 10, 2003. They had celebrated 69 years of marriage.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Glenn Poling and wife, Agnes, and Robert Earl Poling, all of Fork Mountain, Parsons; one daughter, Anzine Grace Monastra and husband, Nicholas, of Mansfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Loretta Poling.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one son, John Daniel Poling; three brothers, Fred, Herbert and Bill Wilson; one sister, Blanch Lazell; five stepsisters and two stepbrothers; and one grandson, Michael Allen Poling.

She attended the one-room school at Fork Mountain. She worked for the former Dorman Mills at Parsons. She was a homemaker. She was a wonderful mother. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Parsons.

Larry David Nutter, 46, a resident of Mansfield Place, Philippi, passed away Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 9, 1962, at Philippi, a son of the late Robert Stanley and Helen Louise "Sis" (Kines) Nutter.

He is survived by his former wife, Teresa Moss of Philippi; one daughter, Amanda Sue Nutter of Philippi; one son, Bobby Allen Nutter, who resides with his mother; one brother; Gary Nutter and companion, John McClung, of Fredericksburg, Va.; one niece; and Lisa McQuillens of North Carolina.

Mr. Nutter was preceded in death by one brother, Danny Nutter; and nephew, Scotty Nutter.

Mr. Nutter worked as an auto body technician for Browning Auto Body in Manassas, Va. He was a member of the Woodbine Street Machines in Manassas Va. He loved restoring muscle show cars and attending car shows.

Margaret Louise "Peg" Harris Fansler, 75, a resident of Hambleton, departed this life early Monday morning, Feb. 2, 2009, in Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown, shortly after being admitted. Death was attributed to heart failure.

She was born Feb. 5, 1933, at Pittsburgh, Pa., a daughter of the late Ralph Gmuer and Elizabeth Forsha Gmuer.

She was twice married. First to the Rev. Basil A. "Bill" Harris, who preceded her in death on June 20, 1985, and then on Aug. 3, 1992, at Princeton, she was married to Arthur Dale "Dick" Fansler, who preceded her in death May 13, 2001.

Surviving are two sons, James N. Harris and wife, Ken, of Bridgeport and William S. Harris and wife, Jeanette, of Mt. Pleasant; one stepson, Phillip F. Fansler and wife, Debbie, of Hendricks; three daughters, Linda S. Phillips and husband, Larry, Cindy J. Phillips and Crystal L. Polomski and husband, Mike, all of Hambleton; one stepdaughter, Frances M. Hedrick and husband, Dale, of Fairmont; two brothers, Ralph Gmuer of Dover, Del., and Fred Gmuer of Pittsburgh; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Sudie Harris.

Preceding her in death was one son, Edward L. Harris.

She attended the schools of Pittsburgh. She worked for the former Parsons Footwear. Following the death of her husband, the Rev. Bill Harris, she pastored the Riverview Chapel Church at Porterwood for 11 years, retiring in 1996. She was a homemaker and enjoyed camping and her family.

Raymond E. Binns, 75, died Jan. 6, 2009, at his home in Gloucester, Va. Death was attributed to cancer.

He was born at Elkins to Thomas and Leona O'Conner Binns.

He graduated from Elkins High School and attended Potomac State and New York University. An active member of St. Therese Catholic Church, he was retired from the U.S. Navy. Ray was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Fleet Reserve and the Holland Club. He was a member of the commissioning crew on the USS Nautilus and worked as a nuclear power plant startup engineer before his retirement in 1993. His passions were family, golf and talking politics.

His survivors include his wife, Marie Therese Constance; children, Mathew Koly and wife, Karen, and Karen Paetow and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Matt Koly Jr. and wife, Amanda, Marie Koly, Andrew Koly and Stacy White; great-grandchildren, Amber, Rachelle, Andie and Hannah; sisters, Carmelle Binns, Mary G. Reynolds and Eleanor Sainato and husband, John; brothers, Thomas Binns and wife, Barbara, and Terence Binns and wife, Betty; a host of nieces and nephews; and a dear friend of the family, Deo Hobbs.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; son, Mark Koly; sister, Joan Batory; and three brothers, Paul, Robert and John Samuel.

Austie Mae Smith, 99, of Riverton, died Feb. 2, 2009, in Grant County Nursing Home at Petersburg.

She was born Aug. 12, 1909, at Riverton, a daughter of the late Samuel Smith and Ada Hedrick Smith.

Surviving are four grandchildren, Debbie Lantz of Cherry Grove, David Kisamore of Maysville, Keith Kisamore of Riverton and Karen Watts of Riverton; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and one sister, Margie Smith of Riverton.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruby Gail Kisamore; one son-in-law, Jerry Kisamore; and two brothers, Curtis and William.

She was a retired cook at the 4-U Restaurant and a member of the United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.

Bretsell Lee Everson, 82, of Erie, Pa., passed away peacefully in the Erie Veterans Administration Hospital on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in the Barker District of Barbour County on Feb. 10, 1926, a son of the late James Elmer and Alice V. Daugherty Everson.

Three sisters, Lena and Lillie Everson and Georgia Everson Booth preceded him in death. Three brothers, Andy, Boyd and Harry, also preceded him in death. The only surviving sibling is Hobart Everson, who resides in Texas with his daughter.

He graduated from Philippi High School and served in World War II in the Fighting 69th Division, fighting his way across Europe, culminating when his unit became famous for meeting the Russians at Torgau on the Elbe River. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

After the war, he attended Alderson-Broaddus College graduating with honors in 1952 and receiving his master's degree from West Virginia University several years later. He taught in the Philippi school system for many years before moving his family to Silver Creek, N.Y., where he finished out his teaching career with 25 years of service. His math students in Philippi as well as Silver Creek loved him for making learning math fun.

He played baseball in the 1950s in the Industrial Leagues as an outfielder for the Philippi Red Socks, who won the league championship in 1955. It was a great victory when they won games. As the winning team, they, along with their families, were treated to a steak dinner.

He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish having trekked all over the hills of West Virginia and Ontario, Canada. He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and taught hunter safety courses for many years. In his later years, he loved gardening and woodcarving, carving his favorite dog, the beagle. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.

His beloved wife, Betty Lou George from Belington, to whom he was married 60 years survives him at home. Also surviving are his two daughters, Suzanne Church and husband, Gordon, of Philippi and Kathy Leigh Karr and husband, Don, of Erie, Pa.; and his four beautiful granddaughters, Debra Dawn Devereaux of Cortez, Colo., Deanna Lynn Retzlaff and husband, Robert, of Westmoreland, Kan., Alison Leigh Karr and Katlyn Marie Karr of Erie, Pa. He was blessed with enough time on this earth to enjoy several years with his great-grandchildren, Abigail Leanna Retzlaff and Elle Marie Retzlaff of Westmoreland, Kan., and Trey Michael Karr of Erie, Pa.

Mrs. Ruth Miller Talbott, or "Rufus" as she was known by family and friends, 82, of Hickory Flat Road, Buckhannon, found peace in Heaven on Jan. 29, 2009, at her home, with her children by her side.

Born March 23, 1926, she was the daughter of James H. and Nellie Benson Miller, and the loving wife of A. Lee "Red" Talbott, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children, A. Lee Talbott Jr. and Martha, his wife, Pamela Talbott Miller and Mat, her husband, and Benton Wayne Talbott and Elaine, his wife. She will be missed by all including her grandchildren, Morgan Leigh Talbott, Hannah E. Talbott and Hillary A. Talbott.

Ruth celebrated life to the fullest. Apart from the active role she played in her family's lives, she continued to be involved in West Virginia arts and crafts. Her business, Dolls and Quilts, was known not only statewide but internationally as well. Ruth was formally inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Mountain State Art & Craft Fair in 2005 for her outstanding contribution by helping to nourish and preserve West Virginia's cultural heritage. Her life accomplishments were many.

During her life she was active in local politics and was instrumental in establishing the local YWCA for young girls. She also worked tirelessly to promote and support local high school sports programs during her children's participation. She maintained memberships in the local woman's chapters of the Moose, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Shriners Children's Organization. She was a member of the Mount Hope United Methodist Church.

Ruth touched and inspired many lives and set an extraordinary example of motherhood and friendship with everyone who was fortunate to share time with her. We sometimes wonder if she realized what a kind example she was for all and how many lives she touched and inspired.

Friends will be received at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7. A short memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. with interment conducted in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tallmansville. Her cremains will be placed to rest beside her husband of 48 years.

William Roger Gobeli, 55, of Helvetia, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, due to injuries received in an ATV accident.

He was born Oct. 17, 1953, at Buckhannon, a son of the late Helen Rose Hosaflook Gobeli, and is survived by his father, Arthur B. Gobeli of Helvetia.

Also surviving are one brother, Benjamine Gobeli of Philippi; nephew, Christopher Adam Gobeli of Asheville, N.C.; niece, Pamela Christina Gobeli of Clarksburg; and two great-nieces, Linzy Brooke Stuart and Alexis Rose Stuart.

William enjoyed fishing and hunting and growing his strawberries. He was a graduate of Pickens High School.

Daniel Ralph Hanline, 25, of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born Sept. 4, 1983, the son of George Hanline of Buckhannon and Donna Orsburn of French Creek, who survive.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by aunts and uncles, Diana "Dee" and Denzil Hanline of Volga, Philip and Erma Hanline of French Creek, Stanley and Faye Hanline of French Creek, Joyce and Ruben Wilfong of Buckhannon, Bob and Nellie Orsburn of Shinnston and Linda and Denzil Frederick of Volga; best friend, Robert Snyder of Buckhannon; and several cousins.

Mr. Hanline was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Wilma Jean Orsburn; paternal grandparents, Andrew and Carrie Hanline; and aunt and uncle, Sue and Larry Bailey.

He was a caregiver for Res Care and was a Christian by faith. He enjoyed all outdoor activities.

Genevieve Mae Smith, 92, a former resident of Valley Head and a resident of Clearwater, Fla., for the past five years, passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, in Clearwater.

She was born Jan. 19, 1917, at Gilmer, a daughter of the late Arley L. Snyder and the late Lena P. Riddle Snyder.

She was married to Guy Lewis Smith, who preceded her in death on June 13, 1995.

Surviving are one son, Larry Guy Smith of Terra Alta; three daughters, Nancy Coltrain of Clearwater, Fla., Rosalie Snodgrass of Richmond, Va., and Dianne Huntley of Silvis, Ill. One sister, Anna Jean Good of Gilmer; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren also survive.

Also preceding her in death were eight brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker, a member of the Valley Head United Methodist Church and a former member of Huttonsville Rebekah Lodge 103.

Janet L. Queen, 66, of Route 3, Buckhannon, the Cutright Run Community, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, in Eagle Point Nursing Home in Parkersburg.

She was born March 25, 1942, a daughter of the late Walter and Virginia Sangrid Bennett.

She is survived by her son, David Queen and wife, Dee Ann, of Williamstown; two grandchildren, Kage Queen and Mahkayla Queen; and two cousins, Christine Toure of Buckhannon and Richard Lower of Ravenna, Ohio.

Janet had been employed from 1964 to 1995 at Moore Business Forms in Buckhannon where she was the first female appointed to a supervising position. She enjoyed watching television, movies and home shopping, but her passion was dancing and music.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel where services will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mike Berry officiating. John Randolph Jackson, 84, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

He was born Feb. 2, 1925, at Roanoke, Va., a son of the late Joseph and Macy Jackson.

He is survived by special friends, Bill and Linda Dodge and Merry Lowe, all of Parsons.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II as CB. He was a plumber. He worked for the Gospel Mission in Washington, D.C., for 15 years.

Final rites will be conducted at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons today at 10 a.m. The Rev. Jeff Anderson will officiate and interment will follow. Mary E. "Jean" Huffman, 66, a resident of Mansfield Place of Broaddus Hospital and a former resident of Volga, passed away Tuesday Feb. 3, 2009, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 15, 1943, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Walter Lee and Lucille (Evix) Thorne.

She was united in marriage July 8, 1969, to Arkie B. Huffman, who preceded her in death Jan. 11, 2006.

Surviving are one daughter, Pam and husband, Rex Casto, of Volga; three sons, Gary Lynn and wife, Jenny Huffman, of Audra, Tony Lee and wife, Kelly Huffman, of Philippi and John Glenn "Bones" and wife, Susie Huffman, of Century; four sisters; Rose and husband, Charles Foster, of Buckhannon, Shirley and husband, Arvel Shreve, of Ohio, Jo Starcher of Ashville, Ohio, and Carolyn Sue Karickhoff of Buckhannon; one brother, William "Bob" and wife, Shirley Thorne, of Volga; two grandchildren, Rex Allen Casto and Tristan Runner; and one stepgrandson, JD Haller.

Mrs. Huffman was preceded in death by two brothers, James Michael and Ronald Lee Thorne.

Mrs. Huffman was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith, She loved making quilts, crafts and arranging flowers.

Pauline "Polly" Treinen, 81, of Bellevue, Neb., and formerly of Davis, passed away Jan. 30, 2009, at her home.

She was born Aug. 14, 1927, at Benbush, a daughter of the late Wiley Arnold and Della Harper Arnold.

She is survived by one son, Charles Perry (Margaret) Bloodworth and one granddaughter, Abigail Bloodworth, both of Macon, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Lorene Arnold of Parsons; niece, Anna Harper of Bellevue, Neb., who was her loving caregiver for the past nine years as she battled cancer; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor Arnold and Paul Arnold, who was a twin to Pauline; and two sisters, Eleanor Jennings and Alta Burns.

Polly was retired from Robins Air Force Base in Georgia, where she worked in the finance department. After retirement, she was a volunteer for 20 years at a thrift shop in Bellevue, Neb. She was a member of Anderson Grove Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, Neb.

Wilda Marie Tingler, 87, a lifelong resident of Whitmer, passed away at 8:37 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at her home.

She was born Dec. 19, 1921, at Whitmer, a daughter of the late Odith Dixon White and Effle Kisamore White.

On June 13, 1941, at Friendsville, Md., she was married to Hermie Tingler, who preceded her in death on April 11, 2008.

She is survived by one son, Roger Lee Tingler and wife, Elisa, of Beech Grove, Ind.; and one daughter, Ruthaleen Charlton and husband, William, of Seneca Rocks. Four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

Preceding her in death were one son, Donald Lee Tingler; four brothers, Odith, Junior, Talbott and Donald Lee White; and one sister, Cornelia Vance.

Wilda was a graduate of Harman High School. She worked for many years as a cook and custodian at the Whitmer School until her retirement. She helped keep records for the Laurel Hill Cemetery and was an avid gardener. Wilda loved her church, the Whitmer United Methodist Church, where she was a member and served for many years as secretary and treasurer and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

David Francis Silk, 66, a resident of the Twin Springs community, Hendricks, departed this life Thursday morning, Feb. 5, 2009, at the home of his brother, Terence and Sue Silk.

He was born Saturday, Aug. 22, 1942, at Newport, N.H., a son of Edward F. and Doris M. Nolin Silk.

Surviving are two brothers, Terence Silk and wife, Sue, of Hendricks and Donald P. Silk of Manassas, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1960, where he played football. He attended Wheeling College at Wheeling or two years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict from Feb. 5, 1963, until Jan. 27, 1967. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a computer programmer for various companies. His interests were in computer science and physics. He was an avid reader of fiction and nonfiction.

Mrs. Edna Pauline Johnson Phillips, 96, a former resident of the Teter Creek Community and for the past eight years, a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, departed this life at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, in the care facility. She had been in declining health for the past two months.

She was born July 9, 1912, at Montrose, a daughter of the late Clyde E. and Verda Wolfe Johnson.

On July 28, 1934, she was united in marriage to Osler B. Phillips, who preceded her in death on March 22, 1985.

Surviving are one son, Doug Phillips of Teter Creek Community; one sister, Mary Purkey of Ohio; and grandchildren, Teresa, Barbie, Larry, Cheryl, Julie, Jeannie, Renata and Kerry. Several great-grandchildren also survive including a special great-grandson, Tyler.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Osler Phillips Jr.; one daughter, Joan Crouch; three brothers Bradford C. Johnson, W. Tirrell Johnson and Harry Johnson; and one sister, Virginia Carr.

Mrs. Phillips attended the schools of Barbour County and was a cook for the Pleasant Hills School for many years. She was a homemaker and in former years attended Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren.

She was born Jan. 1, 1926, in St. Louis, Mo., a daughter of the late Anthony Puricelli and the late Lillian Anna Puricelli Fredrick.

Surviving are two sons, Ralph Williams Jr. of Beverly and Henry Williams and wife, Lisa, of Elkins; three daughters, Carol Reams and husband, Gail, of Elkins, Janet Stalnaker and husband, David, of Beverly and Sandra Sparks and husband, Michael, of Elkins; three sisters, Mrs. Anthony (Ernesta) Mattera of St. Louis, Mo., Charlotte Diselkamp of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Jerry (Louise) Hart of Port Charlotte, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Bobby Reams and wife, Questie, Mindi Reams, Louie Louk and wife, Samantha, Michael Louk and wife, Shannon, Williams Warner, Julia, Jenna and Henry Williams Jr.; 11 great-grandchildren, Jescharelle, Jedakyah, Jaden, Jerrick, Jarrah, Jalyssa, Jaemasun, Jayla and Austyn Reams, and Austin and Karen Louk; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Williams was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center and was a Lutheran by faith. She was a member of the Monday afternoon Senior Bowling League and loved to travel, especially to Atlantic City, N.J. Her family was the love of her life. She was a baseball fan and loved her dog, Max.

Mildred "Ruth" Carr Slayton, 69, a resident of Breakwater Drive, Elkhart, Ind., departed this life Wednesday morning, Feb. 4, 2009, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Jeanne Slayton at Bristol, Ind.

She was born Monday, Jan. 29, 1940, at Bowden, a daughter of the late Orval Lawrence Carr and Arbutus Elizabeth Barkley Carr.

On Sept. 28, 1962, at Lanham, Md., she was married to Ronald Brent Slayton, who survives at Elkhart, Ind.

Also surviving are two sons, Donald Slayton and wife, JoAnn, of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Brent Slayton and wife, Jeanne, of Bristol, Ind.; one daughter, Ruth Fisher and husband, Paul, of Goshen, Ind.; two brothers, Jack Carr and wife, Brenda, and and Jerry Carr and wife, Carol, all of Elkins; two sisters, Jean Iseli and husband, Neil, of Cummins, Ga., and Shirley Booth and husband, Bill, of Heathsville, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

Mildred attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker, was a member of the Women of the Moose at Nitro, enjoyed her grandchildren and loved to play bingo. She had traveled through most of the United States and overseas due to her husband being in the military and was a Protestant by faith.
