Charles Bryan

Charles Bryan, 67, a resident of the Elkins Manor, passed away Dec. 27, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

Ethel M. Walton

Ethel Murl Walton, 91, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at her home in Kanawha Head surrounded by her family.

She was born Oct. 22, 1917, a daughter of the late William and Dorothy Forinash McCartney.

A loving wife, mother and grandma, she is survived by her husband of 68 years, Willard Arden Walton; six children, Harry Walton and wife, Donna, of Iowa, Julia Bancalari, Kenneth Walton and wife, Garnett, Marlene Elmore and husband, Joe, Garry Walton and wife, Joanie, and Joyce Haymond and husband, Jerry, all who live nearby; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Kermit, Cecil and Delbert McCartney.

Mrs. Walton loved gardening and made beautiful quilts.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Jan. 3, at 1 p.m. with Pastor David Jessie officiating at the former Kanawha Head United Methodist Church where Mrs. Walton was a member. William Proudfoot

The Honorable William D. Proudfoot, 68, a House of Delegates member for the past 18 years, representing Randolph and Pocahontas counties, passed away Tuesday evening, Dec. 23, 2008.

He was born Nov. 30, 1940, at Buckhannon, the son of the late William D. and Helen Alkire Proudfoot.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lynn Currence Proudfoot, attendance director for Randolph County Schools; his two sons, William Alexander Proudfoot, a sophomore at West Virginia University, and Benjamin Currence Proudfoot, a junior at Elkins High School; and a daughter, Elizabeth Dorsey Proudfoot, a sophomore at Elkins High School. His family continues to reside on the Proudfoot farm on the Proudfoot-Williams Road near Elkins.

Also surviving are his five sisters, Patricia P. Kelly of Salem, Va., Billie Louise Wolf of Pompano Beach, Fla., Sandra Beth White of Elkins, Jama Lark Stover of Buckhannon and Helen Star Tresize of Nutter Fort; his aunt and uncle, Jean and Louis Marrale of Cumberland, Md.; his nieces, Natasha White, Shannon Stover and Ashley Tresize-Hunter; and his nephews, Kevin Lough and Scott Tresize.

He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1961. He received his undergraduate degree from Fairmont State College, his master's degree from Marshall University and did doctoral work at West Virginia University. Bill served for four years with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. During his professional career, he was a classroom teacher and administrator and retired as the director of the Fred Eberle Technical Center in Buckhannon.

Bill was a 32nd degree Mason and a Grand Master of Knights of Templar, past president of the Tygart Valley Shrine Club, a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elkins, the National Rifle Association, a past president of the Randolph County Farm Bureau, Elkins Kiwanis Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, West Virginia Cattlemen's Association, BPOE, Retired Teachers Association, Tygart Valley Shrine Club, West Virginia Farm Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. Legislative positions held by Bill included: vice chairman of the Committee on Education for the 72nd Legislature, chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources for the 73rd Legislature and chairman of the Committee on Political Subdivision for the 74th, 75th, 76th and 77th Legislatures. During the 2008 session, he served as the vice chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and a member of the House Rules, Political Subdivisions and Rules and Subdivision committees.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elkins. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, from the church with the Rev. Janet Jenkins and the Rev. Doug Jenkins officiating. Because Bill cared so much about his constituents, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Bill's name to a local organization such as a church, 4-H Club, volunteer fire department, the Wheeling Symphony in care of Friends of the Symphony, P.O. Wilma E. Coffman

Wilma Evelyn Coffman, 87, a former resident of Route 1, Moatsville, Kasson community, and more recently a resident of Colonial Place in Elkins, departed this life early Saturday morning, Dec. 27, 2008, in Colonial Place. She had been in declining health for the past two years.

She was born Dec. 18, 1921, at Shiloh, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Alfred Stillman and Louella (Bolyard) Spurgeon.

On April 13, 1941, at Oakland, Md., she was married to George Sherwood Coffman, who preceded her in death on April 22, 1997. They had celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Huffman and husband, Arnold, of Bridgewater, Va., Sheila Spessert and husband, Douglas, of Blackman Heights, Parsons and Susan Blanton and husband, Tom, of Canal Fulton, Ohio; one brother, Forrest Lynn Spurgeon and wife, Wilma, of Philippi; a son-in-law, Ronald Martin and wife, Gladolene, of Valley Furnace; nine grandchildren, Timothy Durrett of Elkins, Donna Durrett of Wilmington, N.C., Reshelle Southerly and husband, Timothy, of Harrisonburg, Va., Cindy Beavers and fiance, Josh Freeman, of Philippi, Amanda Wright and husband, Chad, of West Farmington, Ohio, Trina Zerkle and husband, John, of Smithsburg, Md., Tiffany Southerly and husband, Jeremy, of Fulks Run, Va.; Angela Blanton of Canal Fulton, Ohio, and Christina Flores and husband, Jerry, of Akron, Ohio, eight great-grandchildren; and numerous special nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Marie Martin (2002); and by one sister, Wanda Hershman.

Mrs. Coffman was a graduate of Kasson High School with the class of 1940. She was a homemaker and loved to do word search puzzles. She was a member of the Shiloh Church of the Brethren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30, from the Shiloh Church of the Brethren at Kasson (Shiloh Community). Pastor Garry Clem and Pastor Allen D. Crosten will officiate and interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St., Philippi, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m.. today and at the Shiloh Church of the Brethren from noon until 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Charles E. Bryan

Charles Etsel Bryan, 67, a resident of Elkins, passed away Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 19, 1941, at Philippi, a son of the late Charles H. Bryan and Virginia Stemple Bryan.

Surviving are two sisters, Geraldine Mouser and Diania Lantz and husband, Jim, all of Philippi; one niece, Susan DeLong of Philippi; and two nephews, Perry Lantz and wife, Tracey, of Philippi and Mike Mouser and wife, Donna, of Elkins. Also surviving are special friends, Roger Vandevender and wife, Lena, and sons, Cody, Kevin and Nicholas.

Preceding him in death was one sister, Linda Lou Bryan.

Mr. Bryan was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed as a chop saw operator at Colonial Millworks prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Orlena United Methodist Church at Gilman.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Jessie D. Pegram

Jessie D. Pegram, 81, of Route 1, French Creek, the Kanawha Run Community, passed away on Sunday, Dec.28, 2008, at her home.

She was born Oct. 31, 1927, in West Virginia, a daughter of the late Karl and Nellie Jordan Arbogast.

She is survived by eight children, George Sanders of Elkins, Lynn Shaw of French Creek, Rodney Sanders of Temple Hills, Md., Paul Sanders of Bowie, Md., Pamela Ruiz of Clinton, Md., Bette Pagliaro of Camp Springs, Md., Nancy Yen of Fairfax, Va., and Sandra Littleford of Gaithersburg, Md.; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; her brother, Dale Arbogast of Marbury, Md.; and two sisters, Juanita Wilson of Frostburg, Md., and Betty Willett of Welcome, Md.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, at the Kanawha Run United Methodist Church, with services beginning at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dan Lowther officiating. Lorentz W. Hall

Lorentz W. "Renny" Hall, 70, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at his home.

He was born Oct. 17, 1938, at Buckhannon, the son of the late Joseph P. and Clementine Lorentz Hall.

Survivors include one son, Lorentz W. Hall II of Buckhannon; one daughter, LeEllen Phares and husband, Emerson, of Elkins; two grandsons, Tyler Lorentz and Dylan Shane Hall, both of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Ali Chandler and Megan Engel Phares, both of Elkins; and one sister, deTemple "Dee Dee" Ryan and husband, Kevin, of Little Silver, N.J.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Irene (Teets) Hall; and granddaughter, Carly Renee' Hall.

Mr. Hall was a self-employed real estate developer. Renny graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1956. In August 1957, he married Judith Brown. He graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a bachelor of science degree in business in 1960. In 1961, he founded Elkins Tire Co. He owned B&H Tire Co. in Buckhannon from about 1970 to 1977. In 1978, he left West Virginia to pursue his interest in the quarter horse industry. Renny took his kids to Alaska for the summer of 1987. At the end of the trip, they stopped in Buckhannon to visit friends and family, and he decided to return home to West Virginia.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Ellis Conley officiating. Anne C. Denison

Anne Catherine Denison, 82, a longtime resident of Holly Meadows, Parsons, and more recently a resident of Elkins Manor, departed this life Monday afternoon, Dec, 29, 2008, in Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown.

She was born Monday, March 22, 1926, at Boston, Mass., a daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Crowley.

On Sept. 28, 1946, at Boston, Mass., she was married to Lawrence Patrick Denison, who preceded her in death June 3, 1969.

Surviving are two sons, Lawrence Patrick Denison and wife, Janet, of Parsons and Michael McLain Denison and wife, Beverly, of Elkins; one brother, David Crowley of Norwood, Mass.; one sister, Claire Patton and husband, Robert, of Palm Coast, Fla.; four grandchildren, Michelle A. Walker of Oakland, Tenn., Michael P. Denison of Belington, Julie D. Frazier of Bartlett, Tenn., and Denise D. Kelly of Elkins; 10 great-grandchildren; and longtime friend and companion, Hubert Hedrick of Pheasant Run.

Preceding her in death were one infant son, Peter Denison; and one sister, Marie Hegarty.

She was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School of Roxbury, Mass., during 1943. Mrs. Denison retired from the U.S. Forestry Department on March 25, 1989. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy and St. Brendan Catholic Church. She was a member of Elkins Women's Club and the Red Hat Society. She loved to work in her flower garden when at home. She loved to travel and was an avid reader.

Ann's request for cremation was honored. A church mass and interment in the Aurora Cemetery will take place at a later date. Lemoyne L. Roth

Lemoyne L. Roth, 79, of Buckhannon, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.

She was born July 18, 1929, in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Edwin Dolph nd Sarah Alma Wentz Dawson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Roth; one grandson, Andrew Roth; one brother, Dolph Dawson; and one sister, Wilda Thornhill.

She is survived by two sons, Ron Roth and wife, Connie, and Neil Roth and wife, Susan, all of Buckhannon; one grandson, Ronald "Pete" Roth II of Charleston; two great-grandsons, Nathan Conner Roth and Jacob Ryan Roth, both of Charleston; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Thornhill of Buckhannon.

Mrs. Roth was a homemaker and a Christian by faith.

Miles E. Workman

Miles Ellis "Junie" Workman, 57, a native of Randolph County, and more recently a resident of Roanoke, Va., departed this life Sunday evening, Dec. 28, 2008, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born Saturday, Aug. 25, 1951, at Elkins, a son of the late Miles Ellis "Smiley" Workman and Helen G. (Hinchman) Workman, who survives at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center. He was the grandson of the late Cecil S. and Ruby (Wolfe) Hinchman and Miles E. and Minnie A. (Ailstock) Workman.

On Sept. 22, 1979, he married the former Debra Elaine Bowles, who survives at their home at Vinton, Va., along with his faithful companion, "Gabby."

Also surviving are two brothers, Myles E. Workman of Lincolnton, N.C., and Miles E. Workman of Fairfax, Va.; five sisters, Joyce A. Workman of Elkins, Deborah H. Schuahart of McSherrystown, Pa., Pamela K. Daniels of Norton, Kathryn J. Workman of Lake Clarke Shore, Fla., and Julie A. Workman of Morgantown; his stepmother, Brenda (Cadle) Blankenship of Sullivan's Crossing; and 37 nieces and nephews that dearly loved him and that he dearly loved.

Preceding him in death besides his father were two sisters, Beverly D. Rowan and Jennifer D. Hedrick.

Junie was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1969, had served in the U.S. Navy, and had retired after 20 years of service from Hooker Furniture Inc. where he had worked as a boiler technician. He had traveled across the United States and had visited many different countries, but loved his West Virginia mountains and was proud to be known as a West Virginia Mountaineer. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, family, and friends. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized in 1962. Loved by all who knew him, Junie will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 11 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Cayner, J.R. Miller, Jake Workman, Forrest Dale White, Scott Creek and Tom Corbin. Bishop Lynn Muhlestein and Bishop David Huffman will officiate and interment will follow in American Legion's Little Arlington Cemetery, where the H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites. Harley L. Miller

Harley Lee Miller, 75, a resident of Norton, departed this life Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at his home. Death was unexpected.

He was born Tuesday, April 4, 1933, at Jimtown, a son of the late Harry H. Miller and Mary Ellen LeMaster Miller.

Surviving are one brother, John D. Miller and wife, Barbara, of Jimtown; three sisters, Elsie Elmore of Jimtown, Anna Mae Mooreland of Ridgley and Mary Edith Glendening of Warren, Ohio; one son, Danny White and wife, Cindy, of Winchester, Va.; one daughter, Sheila Jorgenson of Kansas; and one granddaughter, Star.

Proceeding him in death were two sisters, Doris Healy and Martha Jane Naegie; and two brothers, James and Harry Miller.

He attended the schools of Randolph County, had worked for Phillips Sawmill, worked construction and helped build the Stoney River Dam. He also cut and sold wood in the local area and had worked as a night watchman for Larosa Fuel at Clarksburg.

Hazel C. Taylor

Hazel Catherine Bennett Taylor, 79, a resident of Mill Creek, and more recently of Beverly, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Dec. 31, 2008, in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center. She had been in declining health for the past two years and had suffered a stroke four months ago.

She was born Tuesday, April 16, 1929, at Cherry Grove, Pendleton County, a daughter of the late Clemmie E. Bennett and Nora Kate Lambert Bennett.

She was twice married. First, to Robert J. Lambert, who preceded her in death. Second, to Stanley B. Taylor, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are four sons, Larry Lambert and wife, Zorina, of Fayetteville, N.C., Stanley Taylor of Martinsburg, William McCauley Gilbert and wife, Lori, of Chardon, Ohio, and Robert Leonard of Belington; three daughters, Ruth E. O'Brien and husband, Dave, of Genevia, Ohio, Nancy Draa and husband, Paul, of Warren, Ohio, and Nora Lambert and husband, Bobby, of Mill Creek; two brothers, Elmer Bennett and wife, Grethel, of Franklin and Andrew Bennett and wife, Lucy, of Petersburg; three sisters, Cathline Dean of Manassas, Va., Luna Haggy of Franklin and Lillian Thompson of Bartow; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was one infant son, Jacob Bennett.

She attended the schools of Pendleton County, was a member of the Church of the Brethren, loved gospel music, word search puzzles, Bible studies and reading the Pendleton Times.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. On Tuesday, Jan. 6, Mrs. Taylor will be moved to the Valley Independent Baptist Church at Huttonsville, where friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., the funeral hour. Hobart O. Phillips

Hobert O. Phillips, 91, of East Palestine, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008.

He was born June 10, 1917, at Indian Camp, the last surviving child of William S. and Dora Susan Ogden Phillips.

He is survived by his wife, Della P. Davidson Phillips of East Palestine, Ohio; son, Timothy Ray Phillips and wife, Dawn, of East Palestine, Ohio; three daughters, Marjorie Rose Price and husband, Michael, of Darlington, Pa., Marilyn Kay Devich and husband, Joseph, of Ohioville, Pa., and Diana Lynn DePillo and husband, David, of East Palestine, Ohio; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Isabelle M. Jordan

On April 10, 1943, she was married to Roger Edward Jordan who preceded her in death on July 2, 1987.

Surviving is one son, Roger Thomas Jordan of Lewes, Del.; and three grandchildren, Tommy, Michael and Lisa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Ivy, Samuel, John, Glenn, Clarman, Clyde, Ralph and James Forinash; and three sisters, Lille Mae Forinash, Lena Alice Forinash and Lula Belle Forinash.

Mrs. Jordan attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed by Verizon Corp. prior to her retirement. She was a member of Laurel Presbyterian Church and the Eastern Star.

Mary L. Wiseman

Mary L. Wiseman, 79, of Buckhannon, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

She was born Jan. 29, 1929, at Grafton, a daughter of the late Edward J. and Madge Sapp Kuhn.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James J. Wiseman, whom she married on Sept. 14, 1947.

Also surviving are two daughters, Doretta J. Plymale and Patricia S. Hewitt and husband, Larry, all of Buckhannon; four grandsons, Richard Paul Malcolm II, Bernard Cox Jr. and Michael Plymale, all of Buckhannon and James Plymale of Bridgeport; one granddaughter, Kathy S. Rolenson and husband, Joseph, of Buckhannon; one great-grandson, Logan P. Rolenson; and one brother, Charles Ray Kuhn of Grafton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, James Ray Wiseman; one brother, Edward J. Kuhn Jr.; one sister, Virginia Kuhn; and a half brother, Glenn Sapp.

Mrs. Wiseman was a homemaker who cherished her family. She was a Christian and a member of the Buckhannon Church of Christ. She was an active leader in the community and had held all offices of the Heavner Grove Community Education Outreach Society.

Friends were received Thursday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home with the Evangelist Darrell Toothman officiating. Miles E. Workman

Miles Ellis "Junie" Workman, 57, a native of Randolph County, and more recently a resident of Roanoke, Va., departed this life Sunday evening, Dec. 28, 2008, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.

Shirley V. Snyder

Shirley Viola Snyder, 68, of Frederick County, Va., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, in University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va.

Mrs. Snyder was born in 1940, at Leetown, the daughter of the late Melvin Woodrow Hardy Sr. and Laura Hazel Pendleberry, also, granddaughter of the late Cora Viola Heishman.

She retired in 2003 from Crown Cork & Seal as a lab tech in quality control with 26 years of service. Mrs. Snyder was a member of Church of Good Shepherd. She was also a member of Martinsburg Moose Lodge 120 and a volunteer for Blue Ridge Hospice.

Mrs. Snyder married John Wilbur Snyder Sr. on Jan, 5, 2002, in Winchester, Va.

Surviving with her husband, are a daughter, Hazel Viola Zombro of Inwood; three sons, John Wilbur Snyder II of Browntown, Va., Harry William Clark Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Winchester, Va., and Melvin Frances Clark of Belington; six grandchildren, Chasity Stotler and Rachel Zombro, both of Martinsburg, April Clark of Stephens City, Va., Brittany McDonald of Gerrardstown, Robert Roach II and Meghan Clark, both of Winchester, Va.; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sandra Hardy of Elmira, N.Y., and Margaret Taylor of Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, Danny Hardy of Lakeland, Fla., and Melvin Hardy Jr. of Centerville, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Corey Snyder III, and a sister, Jo Anna Moore.

A funeral service will be conducted at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Ruth Crum Stotler and Pastor Vernon Bray officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Bud Knight

Bud Knight, 74, of Buckhannon, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon.

He was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Braxton County, a son of the late Glen Wesley and Mamie Mae Fisher Knight.

On Aug. 12, 1995, he married Joan E. Clatterbuck, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his first wife, Sheril Casto Knight Chavis of Buckhannon; two sons, Buddy Knight of Fairmont and David Vincent Knight and wife, Rebecca, of Elkins; one stepson, Michael McCardle and wife, Amy, of Buckhannon; one stepdaughter, Joan Travis of Buckhannon; four brothers, Charles Knight of Colton, Calif., Dale Knight and wife, Rose, of Buckhannon, Gale Knight of Garrettsville, Ohio, and Gilbert Knight of Buckhannon; three sisters, Virginia Moore of Greenville, Texas, Elsie Smith and husband, Paul, of Buckhannon and Myrtle Shipman and husband, John, of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Autumn Knight and Katie Knight, both of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Brandon Knight of Buckhannon and Sylas Knight of Fairmont; one grandchild and one great-grandchild on the way; three stepgrandsons, Michael Woodruff, John Perrine and Rascal McCardle, all of Buckhannon; and three stepgranddaughters, Brook McCardle and Nichole Perrine, both of Buckhannon and Courtnie Ross of Parkersburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one stepson, Steven R. McCardle; two brothers, James and Kenneth Knight; and four sisters, Susie Goodwin, Hazel Knight, Mildred Knight and Judy K. Heater.

Mr. Knight was a laborer for Harmon George Electric. He was baptized on March 20, 2005, and was a member of the Way of Holiness Church and the Christian Motorcycle Association.

Carter Lee "Pete" Ruddle, 77, of Franklin, formerly of South Charleston, died Jan. 1, 2009, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

Geraldine Corley

Geraldine Corley, 94, of the Shadyside Care Center for the past four years, formerly of Rines Ridge, Proctor, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, in Reynolds Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 8, 1914, at Montrose, the daughter of the late William Dale and Mary Phillips Swisher.

She was a Protestant by faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Corley in 1977; two sons, Charles and Robert Corley; one daughter, Virginia Bertling; three brothers, Dorsey, Carl and Lawrence Swisher; two sisters, Bina Green and Macil Tucker; and two grandsons, Kenneth Corley Jr. and Travis Corley.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas "Leon" Corley of Maryland, Ralph Wayne (Delores) Corley and Kenneth Neil (Nadine) Corley, both of Proctor; two daughters, Dolly Talbott and June (Robert) Delauder, both of Belington; her twin sister, Pauline Spencer of Akron, Ohio; and 26 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 34 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-granddaughter.

Hazel C. Taylor

Hazel Catherine Bennett Taylor, 79, a resident of Mill Creek, and more recently of Beverly, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Dec. 31, 2008, in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center. She had been in declining health for the past two years and had suffered a stroke four months ago.

Mary J. Hamrick

Mary Jean Hamrick, 82, of 184 Winslow Circle, Village Green, in Princeton, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, in Princeton Community Hospital.

Born Dec. 30, 1926, at Valley Head, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe J. and Mamie Snyder Marple.

She was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School in Mill Creek and was of the Protestant faith. She was a former employee of Beta Shoe Co. in Elkins for three years and Sweet Williams Restaurant in Fairmont for eight years. She was born and raised in Randolph County and had been a resident of Princeton for three years, moving here from Fairmont, where she made her home for 30 years.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Albin G. Hamrick; three brothers, Thomas Arthur Marple, John Marple and Dorsey "Gusty" Marple; and one sister, Elizabeth Marple, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Robert Earl Hamrick of Bluefield; one daughter, Pamela Hamrick of Princeton; one sister, Rachel Adams and husband, Jennings, of Cleveland, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at Valley Head United Methodist Church in Valley Head. Burial will follow in the Valley Head United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mava J. Harris

Mava Justine "Bun" Harris, 84, departed this life on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009. She was a resident of Colonial Place at the time of her death and had been a resident of Elkins for 57 years, previously residing in Upshur County.

Justine was born, March 29, 1924, a daughter of the late Roy A. and Frances E. West.

She was married to Paul E. Harris, who preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 2008.

She is survived by two sons, Melvin E. Harris and wife, Rustyne, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Philip M. Harris and wife, Ann, of Elkins. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Russell Harris, Stephanie Shelts and husband, Michael, Andrea Black and husband, Dale, of Oklahoma, Dr. Scott Harris and wife, Christina, and Curtis Harris of Elkins. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Harris was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1942. She attended West Virginia Tech and West Virginia Wesleyan College. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins, a member of the John Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the General Federation of the Woman's Club of Elkins. She enjoyed traveling, camping, crocheting, knitting, reading and gardening, especially growing roses.

Friends may call from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Monday, Jan. 5, she will be moved to the Upshur County Memorial Park near Buckhannon where a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Ellis E. Stephanie O. Ours

Stephanie Orr Shreve Ours, 61, a former resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of Barnard Avenue, Elkins, where she made her home with her mother, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Dec. 31, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Sunday, May 24, 1947, at Elkins, the only child of the late Paul Eugene Shreve and Billie Jean Orr Shreve, who survives at Elkins.

She attended local schools and graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1965 where she was a member of the drama club and the National Honor Society. Following graduation, she attended West Virginia University where she majored in journalism. While there, she was consistently named to the dean's list for academic achievement. She was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority and served as co-editor of the school's newspaper.

After attending college, Stephanie returned to Elkins to work for attorneys, Milford Gibson, Joseph Wallace and Thomas Ross.

On Aug. 5, 1972, she was married to Frank Marshall Ours, who preceded her in death July 29, 2002. Together, they owned and operated Signs by Ours in Parsons for 31 years. Stephanie was most recently employed by Citizens National Bank of Parsons as a teller until her illness.

Stephanie was an active member of the Parsons Presbyterian Church, where she served as trustee. She was also a member of the Women of the Church, the River City Garden Club, the Library Board and the Parsons Women's Investment Club. A talented artist, Stephanie won the Mountain State Forest Festival's people's choice award for one of her oil paintings. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed flower arranging, reading, politics, spending time with her family and friends telling stories and sharing her phenomenal memories and sense of humor. She seemed to have a positive effect on all those she touched, in good times or in bad, from her childhood through her final days which were eased by the support of her family and close friends. As one friend stated, "She was a lady in the truest sense of the word."

Also surviving are one son, Paul Marshall Ours, Elkins; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.

Mrs. Ours' request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Parsons Presbyterian Church.
