Doris E. White

Doris Elaine Moyer White, 77, a resident of Glenmore, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Friday, Oct. 31, 2008. She had been under the care of Mountain Hospice since August.

She was born Aug. 16, 1931, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Leslie Moyer and the late Saviliah Streets Moyer.

On Aug. 20, 1951, she was married to Lewis Benjamin White, who preceded her in death on June 18, 1978.

Surviving are one son, Gary White and wife, Rebecca, of Elkins; two daughters, Debra Arbogast of Norton and Patty White and grandson, Mike White, with whom she made her home. Also surviving are seven other grandchildren, Douglas White and wife, Annette, of North Carolina, Carson and Lisa White of Elkins, Terry and Sherry White of Beverly, Tara and Jeff Phillips of Jimtown, Adam Arbogast of Harding, Leslie and John England of Junior, Jeff and Michelle Poe of Belington; 13 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Cody and Nickala Phillips, Dylan and McKenzie England, Amber and Marcus White, Sierra and Zoey White, Haden and Remington Poe and Brittany and Kaley White; one son-in-law, Harold Everson of Junior; several nieces and nephews; and a special companion, her dog, Skippy.

Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Shelia Poe Everson; two brothers, Ronald Moyer and Kenneth E. Moyer; and two sisters, Betty Moyer White and Genevieve Moyer Scott. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. White attended the schools of Elkins and graduated from Elkins High School in 1950. She worked for several area restaurants as well as Reidbord Brothers, Davis & Elkins College Food Services and after 20 years of service, she retired from Nella's Inc. in Crystal Springs.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A private funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, Nov, 4, and interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. James Nash Jr.

James "Jim" Nash Jr., 80, a resident of Coontz Addition, Belington, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, in Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, Belington, following an extended illness.

He was born Jan. 17, 1928, at Ellwood City, Pa., a son of the late James and Mary (McCarr) Nash Sr., both of whom were born in Italy.

On June 7, 1947, he married the former Irene Virginia Corley, who survives at their home in Belington.

Also surviving are two sons, James Edward Nash III and wife, Ruth, of Ravenswood and Gerald Lynn Nash and wife, Darlene, of Morgantown; five daughters, Marie Harris and husband, "Bubby," Diana Nash and LaDonna Irene Hart and husband, Derek, all of Belington, Nancy Campbell and husband "Rick," of Morgantown and Tina Marie Robinson and fiance, Rik, of Columbia, Tenn.,; three sisters, Mary Karikhoff of Charleston, Martha Nash in Ohio and Nellie Kolar of Naples, Fla.; and 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Alonse, Teresa Springer and Julia Nash; and by one brother, Larry Nash.

Mr. Nash was a retired coal miner and a former employee of Consol Energy. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corps and enjoyed golf, poker, fishing and bowling.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave. in Belington. James E. Nash III will officiate and interment will follow in the Hillyard Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until noon, the funeral hour, on Tuesday. Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.

Maxwell Bennett

Maxwell Bennett, 86, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Saturday afternoon, Nov. 1, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

Paul E. Hinkle

Paul Eugene Hinkle, 80, of Buckhannon, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, in Holbrook Nursing Home.

He was born July 30, 1928, at Buckhannon, a son of the late Nathan Goff and Carmine Phillips Hinkle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jeneieve Hamilton; and one brother, Ellis Burl Hinkle.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Laverne Stubblefield Hinkle; one daughter, Linda Sue Walton and husband, Ed, of Upper Pecks Run; one son, Ronald Lee Hinkle and wife, Elizabeth, of Buckhannon; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gerald Hinkle and wife, Garnet, of Brushy Fork.

Mr. Hinkle was a veteran, had worked for Louie Glass as a glass worker and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with

Robert F. Greaser

Robert Franklin Greaser, 76, a resident of the Blackman Flats community, Hambleton, departed this life Friday evening Oct. 31, 2008, at his home with his family at his bedside. He had been in failing health for the past two years and death was attributed to complications of Alzheimer's disease.

He was born Sunday, March 20, 1932, in Preston County, a son of the late John L. Greaser and Hazel Adams Greaser.

On Jan. 28, 1956, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Elsie Louise Nestor, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Yvonne Kay Oliver and husband, Bruce, of North Beach, Md., and Sandra Dee Summerfield and husband, Jim, of Parsons; three brothers, Charles J. Greaser, of Florida, Joseph Greaser and Roger Lee Greaser, both of Kingwood; three sisters, Mary Knutti of Canton, Ohio, Dorothy "Lena" Friend of Masontown and Helen Lucille Sisler of Kingwood; one granddaughter, Danielle "Dani" Morgan Summerfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were one daughter, Donna June Greaser; and two brothers, Edward and William "Bootie" Greaser.

He attended the schools of Preston County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He was an electrician for 41 years having been employed by Sterling Faucet in Morgantown, P.F.I. at Hendricks, Kingsford Charcoal Co., Mineral Fabrication and Hinchcliff Lumber Co., retiring in 1997. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved his granddaughter. He enjoyed playing and listening to music and he was a motorcycle enthusiast.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Christopher Boyles

Christopher O'Neill Boyles, son of Stanley and Dolores Boyles, departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, in his home.

Along with his parents, Christopher's life is celebrated by grandmothers, Ruth Boyles of French Creek and Berdine Potts of Rock Cave; fiancee, Charliena Helmick of Buckhannon; brother, David and wife, Christina, of Buckhannon; sister, Michelle Boyles and Derek Davidson of Buckhannon; nieces, Sydney Hoover of Rock Cave and Shanna Boyles of Buckhannon; nephews, Cameron Boyles of Rock Cave and Grayson Boyles of Buckhannon; uncle, John Boyles of Pennsylvania, aunt, Anne Robinson, uncle, Jim Boyles, uncle, Kenneth Boyles, and Nancy Merrifield of West Virginia, uncle, Ronald Boyles of Virginia, uncles, Gary Potts and Jim Potts of West Virginia, and spouses; and numerous cousins, loved ones and friends.

Christopher was preceded in death by grandfathers, Ford Boyle and James Potts.

Christopher was a Christian by faith and enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends but his fondest times were with his nieces and nephews, who referred to him as "Uncle yaya." Christopher will be missed by all who knew him and the lives he touched, his heart was golden and a piece of it will be in all of us from now to eternity.

Frances S. Betler

Frances S. Betler, 95, a resident of Columbia, Md., where she lived with her daughter, Carylon Tallman, passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at her home. She had resided with her daughter for the past several years and prior to that she had been a resident of 10 Park Ave., Beverly, and the Gilman community. She had been in failing health for the past year.

Mary Frances Suesli Betler was born Feb. 24, 1913, at Helvetia, a daughter of the late William James and Lena Anna Daetwyler Suesli.

On Dec. 31, 1932, she was married to George Henry Betler, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Joyce Estridge and husband, Gilbert, of Beverly, Carylon Tallman of Columbia, Md., and Katharin "Kay" Pross and husband, Frederick, of Beverly; one son, George Dewey Betler and wife, Karen, of Easton, Md. Six grandsons, four great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters also survive.

Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Mildred Jackson and Nellie Unbright; one brother, Eugene Suesli; and one son-in-law, Wiley Tallman.

Mrs. Betler was a farm woman, a cook at the local public school in Gilman and later employed in the Elkins Sewing Factory prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Beverly Presbyterian Church.

Maxwell Bennett Sr.

Maxwell Harding Bennett Sr., 86, a resident of Dailey, departed this life Saturday afternoon, Nov. 1, 2008, in the Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health since August.

He was born Wednesday, March 15, 1922, at Whitmer, a son of the late Clinton Bennett and Peachie Nelson Bennett.

On Jan. 26, 1946, he was married to the former Opal Vesta Warner, who survives at Dailey.

Also surviving are three sons, Maxwell Harding Bennett Jr., Michael Lynn Bennett and wife, Maggie, and Jeffrey Allan Bennett and wife, Pat, all of Dailey; five brothers, Milford Bennett and wife, Doris, of Franklin, Harold Bennett and wife, Marva, of Indiana, Wayne Bennett of Florida, Roy Bennett and wife, Betty, of Cherry Grove and Glen Bennett and wife, Sarah, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; two sisters, Jane Hoover and husband, Jim, of Franklin and Jackie Burkey and husband, Roy, of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Clinton Bennett and fiance, Sarah Lehman, Mikie Bennett, Justin Bennett, Julie Supak and husband, Aric, and Jeffrey Bennett and wife, Danielle; three stepgrandchildren, Anthony and William Chandler and Stephanie Miller; four great-grandchildren, Nyla Bennett, Hailey Supak, Corinne Bennett and Adryana Young.

Preceding him in death were one daughter, Lois Lee Bennett; and one brother, Jimmy Bennett.

He was a graduate of Circleville High School with the class of 1941, where he played basketball and baseball and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army from Dec. 23, 1942 to Dec. 23, 1945 in the Pacific Theatre. He had worked in the ship yards at Newport News, Va., Coastal Lumber Co. and Bauer Lumber Co., retiring in 1986. He was also a farmer and mechanic, and a Methodist by faith.

Roy G. Elmore

Roy Glenn Elmore, 51, a resident of Jimtown, departed this life peacefully early Saturday evening, Nov. 1, 2008, at his home with all his family at his side. He had been in declining health for the past year.

He was born Tuesday, Sept. 24, 1957, at Warren, Ohio, the youngest son of Elsie Miller Elmore, who survives at Jimtown, and the late John Dayton Elmore.

Also surviving are two daughters, Amy Beth Elmore and Jessica Kaitlyn Elmore; one son, Daniel Glenn Elmore, all of Elkins; two brothers, Calvin A. Elmore and David A. Elmore and companion, Doretta K. Bennett, all of Jimtown; three sisters, Diane L. Workman and husband, Brent, of Elkins, Donna Marie Polce and husband, Michael, and Deborah L. Conley and husband, Greg, all of Jimtown; one grandson, Noah Wingfield of Chenoweth Creek; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Fred and Gladys Cutright Elmore; and his maternal grandparents, Harry and Mary LeeMaster Miller.

He attended the Norton Grade School and Coalton 12-Year School. He worked for the Island Creek Coal Co. for 17 years and prior to his illness he worked for the Wilson Lumber Co. at Elkins and Tanner Lumber Co. at Jimtown.

Roy loved the outdoors, and fishing and hunting were his favorite pastimes. He wrote songs and loved to play and sing on the guitar. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Roy Wegman Sr.

Roy Wilson Wegman Sr., 89, of Linville, Va., passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, in Avante at Harrisonburg from complications of pneumonia.

Mr. Wegman was born Oct. 11, 1919, at Valley Bend, a son of the late William and Louetta Simmons Wegman.

He was a meat cutter at Shen Valley Meat Packers. He served in the 1477th Engineer Corps of the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Feb. 25, 1939, he married the former Helen Louise Gum, who survives.

Also surviving are six sons, Roy W. Wegman Jr. and wife, Wanda, of Broadway, Va., Delmas Wegman and wife, Doris, of Dailey, Carrol Wegman of Dailey, Jackie Wegman and wife, Vonda, of Broadway, Va., Wilson Wegman and wife, Gloria, of Linville, Va., and Kenneth Wegman and companion, Shelia Shaffer, of Valley Band. Thirteen grandchildren, three stepgrandsons and a number of great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Wegman was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine Helen Wegman; three sisters and one brother; and one granddaughter, Tonia Wegman Martin.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway, Va. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Dan King and Jerry Shiflet officiating. William Mason Jr.

William "Bill" Mason Jr., 49, of Buckhannon, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born Sept. 28, 1959, at Atlantic City, N.J., a son of Lottie Tharp Mason of Buckhannon and the late William Mason Sr.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, William Albert Mason III and Jonathan Mason, both of New Jersey; one granddaughter, Emily Mason of New Jersey; one brother, Jeffrey Mason of Buckhannon; one sister, Janet Anderson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and former wife, Kathy Miller of Mays Landing, N.J.

Bill was a welder and he was a faithful member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Friends will be received at First United Methodist Church one Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour with the Rev. Dr. Damon Rhodes officiating. Brenda S. Freyer

Brenda Sue (Ault) Freyer, 55, of Conowingo, Md., and formerly of Petersburg, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, in Conowingo, Md.

Family will receive friends Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, 11 N. Main St., Petersburg. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the funeral home with Pastor Lynn Durbin officiating. Burial will follow in Lahmansville Cemetery at Lahmansville. Kermit C. Hollen

Kermit Castle Hollen, 84, went to stack arms with his comrades on Nov. 4, 2008, from the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Philippi, a son of the late Blonda Sr. and Grace (Boehm) Hollen.

Kermit was a family man who never knew a stranger. His quick wit and ready smile made him a friend to many. His soul departed this world to find peace and rest with Jesus Christ above. He was met by the arms of those who were waiting; his beloved Helen R. (Bennett) Hollen, whom he married on Oct. 27, 1945, and preceded him in death on March 21, 2004. Also waiting were his parents, Blonda Sr. and Grace; his brothers and sister-in-laws, Bill and Virginia, Bob and Eloise, and Kyle and Katy; and his grandparents, Aldolphus and Viola Shaw, RES and Hattie Hollen.

Kermit is deeply loved and will forever be remembered by his daughters and sons-in-law, Shelia E. Phillips and husband, Kenneth, Janie Green and husband, Ed, and Emilie Hollen. Also mourning his passing are his grandchildren, Jason Phillips and fiance, Jennifer Bean, Jeremy Phillips, Aaron and Jana Green, and Adam Green; and his great-grandchildren, Michael and Jeffrey McDonald, and Taylor and Kaylan Phillips.

He leaves, as well, his only surviving brother, Blonda Jr. (Juny) and wife, Elizabeth Hollen; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Joy Bennett; and many special nephews and nieces.

Kermit graduated from Philippi High School in 1942. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army as a gunner during World War II from March 17, 1943, to Sept. 27, 1945. He was wounded in combat on April 9, 1945, and for his bravery in battle, he was given the Silver Star and Purple Heart awards. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 44 of Barbour County.

Kermit retired as a custodian for the Barbour County Commission. Mr. Hollen attended Light of Christ Chapel for many years, and most recently attended Horizon's Church. He was an avid deer hunter who loved to spend time in the West Virginia hills, especially in the fall of the year. He was instrumental in teaching most of his nephews and his grandsons how to deer hunt.

The family wishes to thank the nursing staff of the sixth floor of the VA Hospital and Dr. Clyde Moxley for his care of our Dad in his last months. We also wish to thank our special caregivers Judy Kallel and Renae Ball for their love and attention to Dad at his home as well as in the hospital.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, on Friday. The Rev. Jim Tallman will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with the honour guard of the American Legion Post 44 conducting military rites. Mabel E. Martin

Mabel Ellenor Martin, 96, of Buckhannon, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, in camden-Clark Hospital in Parkersburg.

She was born May 20, 1912, at Holly Grove, a daughter of the late William Brown and Lucretia Curry Sayre.

On Feb. 6, 1938, she married Orza J. Martin, who preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1998.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, William Brooks Sayre; and one sister, Cozbi Chandler.

She is survived by one son, David Martin and wife, Barbara, of Emmitsburg, Md.; two daughters, Linda Martin of Lake Placid, Fla., and Lois Chichester of Vienna; one grandson, Scott Chichester of Vienna; four granddaughters, Pamela Travis of Mineral Wells, Brenda Wix of Vienna, Marianne Kreiner of Germantown, Md., and Aimee Martin of Emmitsburg, Md.; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Juanita Linger of Frederick, Md.

Mrs. Martin was a school teacher for the Upshur County Board of Education. She was a member of the Upshur County retired school employees, the Upshur County Historical Society, a former homemaker extension worked and helped establish 4-H clubs and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Barbara N. Peek

Barbara Neree Peek, 70, a resident of Row Avenue, Junior, and a former assessor of Barbour County, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, where she had been a patient since Oct. 20.

She was born April 12, 1938, at Junior, the only child of the late Howard Clark "Ike" and Frances Louise "Fannie" (Straley) Moore.

Survivors include one daughter, Lora Michelle Felton and husband, Tom, of Parsons; two sons, Greg Peek and wife, Bobbie Jean, of Junior and Howard Peek and wife, Suzi, of Belington; four grandchildren, Justin Peek and wife, Amanda, of Buckhannon, Joshua Peek and wife, Kelly, of Junior, Ross Allen Peek and wife, Amy, of Monongah and Breanna McFarlan and husband, Joe, of Junior; one great-granddaughter, Lacie Marie Peek of Junior; and a lifelong friend, Jerry Corley of Morgantown.

Mrs. Peek had served as deputy assessor prior to being named assessor of Barbour County. She later served as a deputy in the county clerk's office and in the interim had been employed by the Belington Shop and Save Supermarket. She enjoyed reading, travel and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, from the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave. in Belington. The Rev. Doyle N. Rider will officiate and interment will follow in the Knights of Pythias Mountain View Cemetery at Junior.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour on Friday.

Nelva Jenna Phillips, 90, a former resident of Parsons and more recently a resident of Dundalk, Md., departed this life Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at her home.

Calvin G. Mongold

Calvin Gainer Mongold, 93, a resident of Scott Ford Road, Elkins, departed this life early Thursday morning, Nov, 6, 2008, in Valentine's Personal Care Home at Elkins.

He was born Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1915, at Ft. Seybert, Hardy County, a son of the late James Arley Mongold and Cora Alice Sites Mongold.

During January of 1952, he was married to the former Jerelean P. (Vance) Thompson, who preceded him in death Jan. 11, 2000.

Surviving are four daughters, Sarah Martin and husband, Joseph, of Elkins, Phyllis Gurganus and husband, Cecil, of Evansville, Ind., Norma Shanklin and husband, Richard, Kirby and Johnnie Sue Armentrout and husband, Max, of Elkins; two sons, Herman Thompson and wife, Fay, and David Thompson and wife, Nancy, all of Elkins; two sisters, Goldie Frances Jackson of New Market, Va., and Mary Pauline Nelson of Portland, Mich.; two brothers, David Ray Mongold of Petersburg and Cecil Dolan Mongold of Ft. Seybert; and 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were one son, David E. Mongold on Sept. 29, 1993; and three brothers, Other William, Victor Arley and Elton Conway Mongold.

He attended the schools of Hardy County and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. During March of 1946, Mr. Mongold and three employees started the FRICK Circular Sawmill at Hinkle Mountain in Hardy County. In 1949, he purchased a larger circular sawmill requiring two more employees, which started at Harman, was then moved to Alpena and later moved to the Cheat River at Bowden. In 1961, an all electric band sawmill was purchased and erected at Poe Run near Elkins and in 1966, a dry kiln was installed. In early 1986, Mongold Lumber Co. purchased the former Dailey Lumber and Dimension Plant and in 1990, the company was sold, at which time Mr. Mongold retired as president of the company. He was a member of the Elkins Church of the Brethren.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Carl A. Yokum

Carl Adam Yokum, 92, of Seneca Rocks, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at his home.

He was born Sept. 10, 1916, at Seneca Rocks, the son of the late Eston Yokum and Cynthia Elizabeth (Judy) Yokum.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Charles Jackson Yokum.

Mr. Yokum was co-owner of Yokum's Vacationland at Seneca Rocks for more than 70 years. He was a lifelong farmer and retired from Columbia Gas Co. in Seneca Rocks. He served on the Pendleton County Board of Education in 1950s and also served as the fire warden in Pendleton County for 45 years. He was previously co-owner of Elkins Stockyard in Elkins and was a member of the Seneca Rocks Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Shirley (Bland) Yokum; one son, Samuel D. Yokum of Seneca Rocks; two daughters, Patsy Ann White of Fairmont and Sharon Rose Maluo of Honolulu, Hawaii; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and one sister, Mabel Yokum a resident of the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Friends may call on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Clara D. Aylestock

Clara Doone Aylestock, 78, of Berryville, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Aylestock was born June 1, 1930, at Staunton, Va., a daughter of the late Hall Thompson Sr. and Ora May McKay Thompson.

She was a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

On Oct. 21, 1950, she married Harold Joe Aylestock, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Diana Aylestock of Front Royal, Va.; two sons, Douglas Aylestock and wife, Lois, of Berryville, Va., and Dan Aylestock of Springfield, Va.; three sisters, Arlene Conaway of Martinsburg, Shirley Wise of Ohio and Thelma Parker of Springfield; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Hall Thompson Jr.

Larry W. Nichols

Larry William Nichols, 73, a resident of Avilton, Md., and formerly of Elkins, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.

He was born Sept. 7, 1935, at Pike, a son of the late Orville Glenn Nichols and Virginia Belle Wince Nichols.

On April 22, 1961, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Mary Ann Graham, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Mark D. Nichols of Avilton, Md.; and one daughter, Judith Kaye "Jody" Mohr of Salem. One sister, Patty McCullough of Waverly; and one granddaughter, Emily Mohr also survive.

Mr. Nichols was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services where he worked as an assistant administrator. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation, Cheat Mountain Surf Fishing Association, the West Virginia Track Club and the AFSCME of the AFL-CIO. He served as president of the Committee on Aging during the construction of the Elkins Senior Center. He was a member of American Legion Post 214 of Grantsville, Md.

Friends may call on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home at Elkins from noon until 2 p.m. On Monday, he will be moved to the Pleasants Memorial Estates at Eureka where full military rites will be accorded at 1 p.m. Interment will follow. She is survived by two sons, Allen Casto and Douglas Craig Casto and wife, Marsha, all of Buckhannon; one daughter, Karen Sue Casto of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Allen David Casto and Edward Dewey Casto and wife, Jamie, all of Buckhannon; one stepgranddaughter, Georgeann Harris; one great-grandson, Gabriel Allen David Rowan of Buckhannon; four brothers, James Lee Phillips of Alaska, Charles Lee Phillips of Parkersburg, Gerald Ronald Phillips of Sago and Allen Dale Phillips of Belington; three sisters, Virginia Catherine Taylor of Elkins, Betty Lou Phillips of Sago and Carolyn Sue Bennett of Belington; companion, Lewis Morrison of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews; and her ex-husband, Allen Casto.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Perry Martin Casto; three brothers, Dice Edward, Junior Lee and Perry Martin Phillips; and three sisters, Mary Richard, Margaret Price and Dorothy Ellen Phillips.

Mrs. Casto was a homemaker and a Christian by faith.

Mary E. Hoult

Mary Eleanor Hoult, 94, formerly of Fairmont and Elkins and currently of Twin Lakes Retirement community, Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Nov. 6, 2008, at her residence.

She was born July 13, 1914, at Fairmont, a daughter of the late Charles R. and Pauline Prickett Hoult.

Ms. Hoult was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church of Fairmont and a graduate of Fairmont State Teachers College, now Fairmont State University. She spent most of her career as an executive secretary for the U.S. State Department. She spent a great portion of her career in the foreign services area serving in Montreal, Canada, and also at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. She began her career as a teacher in Marion County. In 2006, she moved to the Twin Lakes community in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she lived until her demise.

Survivors include a niece, Becky Cassidy and her husband, Sam, of Cincinnati, Ohio; a nephew, Charles Hoult and his wife, Charlotte, of Weirton, as well as six great-nieces and great-nephews; and six great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Harold and Raymond Hoult; and a sister, Marjorie Lough.

The Hoult family has entrusted the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, with the arrangements. Rosa Marie Stotler "Rosie" Taylor, 55, a resident of Montrose, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, peacefully at her home.

She was born Monday, Oct. 27, 1953, at Aberdeen, Md., a daughter of the late Harry Franklin Stotler and Lelia Alverna Bane Stotler Stowe.

On May 5, 1984, she was married to Alvie Ray Taylor, who survives at Montrose. They had celebrated 24 years of marriage.

Also surviving are four brothers, Leroy Stotler and wife, Wilma, of Morgantown, the Rev. Wayne Stotler and wife, Bonnie, of Slanesville, Larry Stotler and wife, Sheila, of Green Spring and Harry Stotler of Slanesville; two sisters, Shirley Hott and friend, Randy, of Martinsburg and Elaine Kennedy and husband, Roy, of Bonne Terre, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding her in death was one brother, Shannon Stotler.

Rosie was the head cook at Ye Olde Donut Shoppe for 20 years and was a member of the Believers Fellowship Church at Montrose. She was a loving wife, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Willard L. "Bill" Kelley, 81, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at his home. He was in failing health but death was unexpected.

He was born July 19, 1927, at Elkins, a son of the late Clarence and Beatrice White Kelley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Lewis Barrickman; and sisters, Norma Wamsley, Shirley Zavatsky and Bernedine Feathers; and Emmett Barrickman.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; stepson, Donnie Ross and wife, Cathy; stepdaughter, Melanie Wells and husband, Jim; daughters, Kathy Elliot and Patricia Peno; stepgranddaughters; grandchildren; brothers and sister, Dana Barrickman and wife, Marge, of Dailey, Carroll Barrickman of Ohio, and Cordella Horan of New York; and aunt, Pearl Lipscomb and husband, Don, of Belington

Bill was a member of the Masonic Temple, Buckhannon Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, First United Methodist Church, Buckhannon Housing Authority of which he was a founding member, the West Virginia Auto Dealers Association, St. Joseph's Hospital board of directors, Lions Club and many civic organizations. He was a former member of the Upshur Development Authority. He was a former co-owner with Bill McKnight of an ice cream store and mobile home sales. Mr. Kelley owned and operated Bill Kelley Chevrolet on Main Street in Buckhannon for many years and recently Kelley Motors in Elkins.

Also surviving are four sisters, Madison Faith Yakubik, Celeste Brooke Vance, Mackenzie Hope Vance and Brianna Paige Vance, all of Beverly; his maternal grandparents, Tammy Watson of Elkins, Debbie and Denzal Jones of Kerens and Joe and Lorraine Yakubik of Beverly; his paternal grandparents, John and Lana Vance of Beverly; his maternal great-grandparents, Donna and Bill Kester of Belington, John Cross of Belington; and his paternal great-grandmother, Shirley Vance of Elkins.

Lila D. Young, 87, of Petersburg, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, in Grant County Nursing Home.

Marjorie E. Farkas

Marjorie Edna Demastes Farkas, 84, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, after a valiant struggle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. She has been a patient at the NHC Nursing Home, Hendersonville, Tenn., since January 2006. Born in Canaan, March 6, 1924, Marjorie was the fifth child of Howard Frank and Iva Pearl (Rice) Demastes.

She attended West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon and later earned her bachelor's degree in education at Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa. She taught generations of Quaker Valley School students located in Allegheny County, Pa., as an elementary teacher for 23 years until her retirement in 1981.

She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ambridge, Pa. prior to moving to Jonesboro, Ga. in 1983. There she joined the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church located in Fayetteville, Ga. After moving to Franklin, Tenn., in 2000, she became a member of the Faith Lutheran Church.

She was predeceased by two infant siblings; a sister Iva Nell Demastes in 1921; sister Lorena Ellen Demastes in 1923; her mother, Iva Pearl (Rice) Demastes in 1973; her father, Howard Frank Demastes in 1976; her husband, Andrew George "Andy" Farkas in 1982; a sister, Betty Rose Demastes Fidler in 1991; a brother, John Franklin Demastes in 2003; and her youngest brother, Willard Gale "Jim" Demastes in 2005.

Marjorie enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She also loved sharing time with her family and attending Pitt and Georgia Tech football games. Her hobbies included reading, completing "word search" puzzles, watching Bill Graham Crusades on television and listening to the singing of Johnny Cash and George Strait.

Marjorie leaves to mourn her three chidren, a son, Andrew Ed Farkas and his wife, Diane, of Oakton, Va.; a daughter, Bettsy Smith Franklin of Vonore, Tenn.; and a son, Alan Michael Farkas of Ladera Ranch, Calif.; also her grandchildren, Terri Lynn Sawyer, Sandy Cooper, Brian Smith, Robin Weintraub and Shane Farkas; and her great-granddaughter, Taylor Leigh Cooper, who she adored. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who truly loved her.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, 95 South Kanawha St., Buckhannon. Interment will be at the family's Rice Cemetery in Kanawha Head immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rice Family Cemetery Association P.O. Ronald D. Corbitt

Ronald Dale Corbitt, 42, of Dryfork, died Nov. 5, 2008, after an extended illness, in Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Ronald was born Feb. 1, 1966, at Elkins, a son of Charles and Grace Corbitt of Dryfork.

Ronald was preceded in death by his twin brother, Donald, in 1966; also both paternal and maternal grandparents.

Survivors include four sisters, Judy (Ralph) Forte of Punta Gorda, Fla., Debora (Marvin) Rohrbaugh of Dryfork, Norma (Rick) Summerfield of Parsons and Bonnie (friend, David Paugh) Corbitt of Dry Fork; and two brothers, Michael (Lisa) Corbitt of Red Creek and Jeffery (Brenda) Corbitt of Dryfork. Ronald also leaves behind 15 nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ronald was affiliated with the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church by faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and listening to country music.

Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Sunday Nov. 9, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be on Monday at Dry Fork Assembly of God Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Alice Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Roy Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.   From 8 Nov 2008. 

Rosa M. Taylor

Rosa Marie Stotler "Rosie" Taylor, 55, a resident of Montrose, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, peacefully at her home.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Monday, Nov.10, from 10 a.m. to noon, the funeral hour. The Rev. Terry Cannon will officiate and interment will follow in the Augusta Cemetery at Augusta. Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Rosa Marie Stotler "Rosie" Taylor. Willa L. Wayts

Willa Lee Wayts, 97, of Buckhannon, passed away Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center in Elkins. She was born Nov. 13, 1910 at Sago, a daughter of the late Nathan Goff and Nellie Linger Lewis. She was united in marriage in 1932 to Willard H. Wayts, who preceeded her in death in 1988. Also preceeding her in death are two sons, John Wayts and Winten Wayts; a daughter, Nellie Karen Wayts; five sisters and one brother.

Surviving are three children, Billy Joe Casto and wife, Regina, of Pineville, La., Louise Lough of Buckhannon and Marcella Kelley and husband, Delmuth of Tallmansville; a daughter-in-law, Norma Wayts of Buckhannon; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Sharpolisky of Buckhannon; and one half-brother, Don Lewis of Ravenswood.

Mrs. Wyats was a homemaker, a member of the Alton United Methodist Church, member of the Alton Homemaker's Club and a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and DAV Auxiliary and she was a Gold Star Mother in Upshur County. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Friends will be recieved from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel, where services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Camp Cemetery.
