Oma W. Hutzler

Mrs. Oma Ware Hutzler, 93, a resident of Junior, departed this life 2:20 p.m. Friday Oct.17, 2008, in the Alliance Community Hospital at Alliance, Ohio.

She was born Oct. 31, 1914, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Herbert and Rosa Belle Ware.

On May 9, 1936, at Junior, she was married to late Elmo Hutzler, who preceded her in death in 1992.

She is survived by one daughter, Shelba Jean Ware and husband, Bernie, of Alliance, Ohio,with whom she made her home for the past several years. She is also survived by four grandsons, Danny G. Ware, Gregory Scott Ware, Michael Hutzler and Donald Hutzler; and five great-grandchildren, Cole, Miles and Hunter Hutzler, Latosha and Drew Ware. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, William Eddie Hutzler; one grandson, Douglas Hutzler; two brothers, Oral C. "Decker" Ware and Chester L. Ware; and one sister Elsie Ware Currence.

Mrs. Hutzler attended the schools of Barbour County and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church until it closed several years ago. Oma was a homemaker and an avid quilt maker. She will be greatly missed by all.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home, 210 Brandenburg St. in Belington today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday until 11 a.m., the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Doyle N Rider and the Rev. David Shelton officiating. Interment will follow in the Knights of Pythias Mountain View Cemetery near Junior. The family ask that along with floral offerings, memorial contributions can also be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church in Junior or the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Belington. William C. Plum

William Clyde Plum, 61, of Hambleton, passed away Oct. 18, 2008, in Nella's Nursing Home in Elkins.

He was born June 2, 1947, at Parsons, a son of the late Otto Plum and Betty Jean Pitzer Nelson, who survives.

Also surviving are his wife, Shirley Bennett Plum; one daughter, Christy Mae (Eric) Mason of Hambleton; one grandchild, Tyler David Mason; and numerous brothers and sisters.

Mr. Plum served as a U.S. Marine during the Vietnam War. He was employed in construction and retired as a security office for the Mountain Top Hunt Club. In addition to the Mountain Top Hunt Club, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts of Parsons and Harman. He enjoyed taking countless walks pursuing his love of the mountains and the great outdoors. He really enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Tyler.

Friend will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Riverview Chapel Church in Porterwood. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the church with Pastor Dick Gadd officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. Charles R. Purkey

Charles R. Purkey, 57, a resident of Barbour County Good Samaritan Center in Belington, and a former resident of Maple Avenue in Philippi, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008.

He was born Sept. 15, 1951, in Barbour County, a son of the late John D. and Juanita V. Lake Purkey.

Surviving are one sister, Patricia "Cookie" Townsend of Philippi; and one brother, John and wife, Charlotte Purkey, of Belington.

Mr. Purkey was preceded in death by one sister, Dianna K. Godwin.

Mr. Purkey was a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and worked for Tygart Valley Funeral Home. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Purkey was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting. He was a member of the People's Chapel Church.

Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the service hour with Pastor Ruston Seaman officiating. Harlan B. Sites

Harlan Bruce Sites, 76, a resident of the Crystal Springs Trailer Park in Elkins, died Oct. 20, 2008, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 7, 1932, at the Mouth of Seneca, a son of the late Cletis Sites and Ella Painter Sites.

Surviving are one sister, Joann Hedrick of Petersburg; one brother, Bill Sites of Riverton; several nieces and nephews; and friends, Bonnie and Lewis Ward of Elkins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Cletis Sites Jr., Jackie L. Sites, Gene Sites and Holly Sites; one sister, Violet Ruth Sites; and a half sister, Pauline Hedrick.

He had been employed at Inter-State Hardwoods in Bartow and had served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was a 1951 graduate of Circleville High School, attended Davis & Elkins High School and was a member of Seneca Rocks Presbyterian Church.

Family will received friends at Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Stanley Kile will officiate and interment will follow in North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton. Military graveside services will be accorded by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard. Katherine Mailloux

Katherine Margaret Mailloux of Helvetia, passed away Oct. 17, 2008, at Helvetia.

She was born May 21, 1951, at San Francisco, Calif.

She was married to the late Dallas Rice. They had three children, Henry and Bill Rice of Helvetia, and Sally Rice, who is deceased.

Cathy spent her early childhood on the island of Guam. She graduated from Pickens High School and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. She was assistant manager of the Hutte Restaurant. Cathy was a member of the Helvetia Restoration and Development Organization Inc.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.   From 21 Oct 2008. 

Larry D. Crowder

Larry David Crowder, 58, of Huntington, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, in St. Mary's Medical Center.

Larry was born Aug. 22, 1950, at Charleston, a son of Jack L. and Irene Peggs Crowder of Charleston.

He was retired from Marshall University School of Medicine as the director of facilities. Larry had a love for life and he never met a stranger. He has degrees in civil engineering, structural engineering and industrial and design engineering. He was a member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his loving and devoted wife of the last eight years, Mary Bright Crowder of Huntington; a daughter, Jessica Crowder of Miami, Fla.; two sons, Todd Crowder and Kent Crowder of Charleston; a bother and sister-in-law, Ken and Elvira Crowder and their children, Stacy Riden and Kevin Crowder, all of Snohomich, Wash.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Jacqueline Bright of Elkins; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Jane Bright and their daughter, Nicole Bright, all of Fort Ashby; his special friends, Leslie, Jim, Nancy and Bob, and Hannah, Sherry and Tim; and his four favorite cats.

A memorial service was conducted Oct. 15 at Chapman's Mortuary with the Rev. Tim Lawrence officiating. Friends gathered at New Beginning Apostolic Church in Huntington after the service. William J. Courtney

William Joseph Courtney, 62, of Buckhannon, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon.

He was born Aug. 3, 1946, at Buckhannon, a son of Lewanna Jean Courtney of Baltimore, Md.

Also surviving are one stepbrother, Richard Michael Lowe of Baltimore, Md.; an uncle, John Richard Courtney of Buckhannon; an aunt, Pat Anderson and husband, Ted, of Joppa, Md.; and several cousins.

Mr. Courtner was a telemarketer for Tele-Response Center Inc. He was a member of the Towne Baptist Church in Joppa, Md.

Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour. Anna B. Harold

Anna B. Harold, 79, of Mauertown, Va., died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, in Consulate Health Care in Woodstock, Va.

Harriet A. Myers

Harriet Alene (Cox) Myers, 84, a longtime resident of Orlando, Fla., and more recently a resident of Richardson, Texas, passed away May 23, 2008, after a short illness at the Life Care Center of Plano, Texas.

She was born May 26, 1923, in Junior, a daughter of the late Howard Dawson and Hattie (Price) Cox.

Harriet was twice married; first to Joe Myers of Baltimore, Md., and then to Col. Allen Dallas of Orlando, Fla., both of whom preceded her in death.

Surviving is one sister, Mary Frances Snyder of Philippi; two nieces, Nancy Cashio of New Orleans, La., and Mary Beth Mentzer of Richardson, Texas, with whom she made her home in 1997; three nephews, John Cox and wife, Connie, of Winter Park, Fla., Ben Snyder and wife, Sharon, of Pataskala, Ohio, and Joe Snyder and wife, Peggy, of Charleston; and several great nieces and nephews.

Harriet was preceded in death by three sisters, Charlotte Ann Cox, infant Christine Wood and Dorothy Prouty; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Hugh Cox and wife, Regina, and William Cox and wife, Carolyn; and one niece, Linda Burns.

Harriet was a graduate of Belington High School and was a registered nurse who began her training in Elkins at Davis & Elkins, and after spending several years in Baltimore, she finished her training at St. Mary's Nursing School at Clarksburg in 1951. She worked as a nurse in West Virginia, New York and Florida. Eventually she was able to combine her love of business and nursing by managing the offices of several physician groups in Orlando where she lived for more than 40 years. She ended her working career by managing law offices in Orlando.

Harriet is fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews as the aunt who was nurturing and had a smile that lit up the room. Harriet traveled extensively and made friends where she would be.

Mrs. Myers request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Alicia Rapking officiating. Maxine L. Bonner

Mrs. Maxine Louise Conrad Bonner, 73, a resident of Monterville, departed this life at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

She was born Feb. 5, 1935, at Blue Springs, Randolph County, a daughter of the late Arden Lee and Marie Blanche Conrad.

On March 18, 1955, at Valley Head Methodist Church parsonage, she was married by the Rev. Glen Nay to Marion Francis Bonner, who still resides in Monterville.

She is survived by three siblings, Dora Leigh Conrad Morgan and husband, Bill, Marvin Jennings Conrad and wife, Blanche, and Charles Earl Conrad; two daughters, Terri Ann Bonner Summers and husband, Stan, and Donna Sue Bonner Wooten and husband, Bob; son, Michael Alan Bonner and wife, Terri; grandchildren, Joe, Sara, Matt, Casey, Bridget, Kelley, Brandon, Mikayla, Cassey, Max and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Zakk, Jon and Nic; and her beloved pets, Zeke and Vessie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Mark Wayne Bonner and Robert Dale Bonner.

Mrs. Bonner attended the schools of Randolph County and was a member of the Cowger Community Center. Maxine was a homemaker, a musician, an artist and an avid reader. She loved the outdoors and all her family. She will be greatly missed by all.

Friends will be received at Cowger Community Center in Monterville today from 10 a.m. to noon, with a graveside service immediately following at 1 p.m. at Mingo Cemetery with the Rev. Veral Simmons officiating. Mr. Vervie "Punk" Nicholas, 87, of Cherry Grove, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, in Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Alonzo C. Corley Sr.

Alonzo Clair Corley Sr., 96, of Middle River, Md., died Saturday, Oct.18, 2008, at his home, following a sudden and brief illness.

He was born April 12, 1912, at Weaver Community, a son of the late Warren J. and Eliza (Steerman) Corley.

His wife, Donelda (Digman) Corley, preceded him in death in 1986.

Survivors include one son, Alonzo C. Corley Jr. of Middle River, Md.; and three grandchildren, Thomas Rice II, John Rice and Donna Bannon.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Rice; two brothers, Joseph Corley and Warren Corley; and seven sisters, Sicily Osburn, Bertha Poole, Virginia Keller, Ona Caldwell, Wamie Green, Linnie Helmick and Ida Carol Corley.

Mr. Corley was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. He was retired from the security department of Lockheed-Martin Corp. Mr. Corley was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge 116, A.F. & A.M. in Towson, Md., and had been active in the Boy Scouts of America and Little League Baseball.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, from the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave. in Belington. The Rev. Doyle N. Rider will officiate and interment will follow in the Belington Fraternal Cemetery where Belington Lodge 125 A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic Rites.

Grace E. Lugo

Grace Evelyn Thompson Lugo, 84, passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, after a long illness.

She was born Sept. 10, 1924, a daughter of the late Dillon and Hettie Long Thompson.

She was married twice. First to the late Earl G. Kerns Sr. and later to Ruben Lugo of Houston, Texas.

She had two sons from her marriage to Earl Kerns Sr.; Earl Jr. and Michael Allen.

Surviving are two sons, Earl G. (Marty) Kerns Jr. of North Las Vegas, Nev., and Michael A. (Deanna) Lugo of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Shawn (Laura) Kerns of Bakersfield, Calif., Jennifer Kerns of Sacramento, Calif., M. Benjamin Lugo, Andrew C. Lugo and Matthew Lugo of Austin, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Erin and Ryan Kerns of Bakersfield, Calif; three brothers, Bruce (Ocie) and Hugh (Nellie) Thompson of Bowden and Frank (Bobby) Thompson of Mechanicsville, Md.; and one half brother, Dickson (Jane) Helmick of Warren, Ohio; four sisters Bessie (David) Meier of Sunbury, Ohio, Ruby (John) Cooper of Millersport, Ohio, Betty (George) Woodford of Elkins and Ruth (Sturl) Waybright of Buckhannon; one half sister, Texie Parker of Wilmington, Del.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Seymour D. Thompson (Grace) and Lester Thompson; four half brothers, Blake Thompson, Bland Thompson, Charles Helmick (Beatrice) and Art Helmick (Lorraine); and four half sisters, Leora (Bill) Georges, Mabel (Ival) Lambert, Aletlha (Adam) McAvoy and Carrie (George) Hughes.  From 23 Oct 2008. 

Hoyie L. Tacy

Retired Army Master Sgt. Hoyie Lester "Dick" Tacy of Canyon Lake, Texas, went home to be with our Lord on Oct. 19, 2008.

He was born Dec. 23, 1936, at Huttonsville, a son of Robert and Virginia Tacy.

He married Rose Faw on Dec. 20, 1969.

Dick proudly served 23 years in the U.S. Army which included tours in Korea and Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Rose Faw; son, Daniel Tacy; daughters, Jo Ann Nalley and Pam Luddeke; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Tacy, Harold Tacy and Boyd Tacy; and one sister, Reta Tacy.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in Texas. Funeral services will be at noon Friday at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Helen Bailey

Helen Bailey, 81, of Buckhannon, and formerly of Livonia, Mich., where she had resided for more than 50 years, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, in Holbrook Nursing Home at Buckhannon.

She was born Feb. 26, 1927, a daughter of the late Oscar and Edith Hinkle Simons.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Bailey; and a sister, Louise Conley.

Surviving are a sister, Marie Light and husband, Lancel, of Buckhannon; two brothers, Jack Simons and wife, Velma, of French Creek and George Simons and wife, Patricia, of Dayton, Ohio; her brother-in-law, George Conley of Livonia, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen was a homemaker and attended the Clarenceville United Methodist Church in Livonia, Mich.

Friends will be received at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, where services will be conducted Sunday, Oct. 26, beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton. Marvin Armstrong

Marvin C. Armstrong, 86, of Center Township, Pa., passed away quietly on Wednesday evening, Oct. 22, 2008, surrounded by his family.

Born Sept. 23, 1922, at Hall, Marvin was a son of the late Mamie Armstrong.

As a loving husband, he will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Oldaker Armstrong, with whom he shared a love for camping and spending time with family. A retired truck driver and member of local teamsters for more than 30 years, he had numerous awards for safe driving. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

In addition to his mother, Marvin was preceded in death by his grandson, Travis Cichoski; and two brothers, Harold Armstrong and Merle Browning.

In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons, Roger Armstrong and his wife, Bertha, of El Paso, Texas, David Armstrong of Center Township, Pa., and Randy Armstrong and his wife, Elena, of Oakdale, Pa.,; a daughter, Deborah Cichoski and her husband, Thomas, of Center Township, Pa.; seven grandchildren, David and Valerie Perches of El Paso, Texas, Davina Phillips and her husband, Erik, of Center Township, Pa., Tom Cichoski of Center Township, Pa., Arlena and Evan Armstrong of Oakdale, Pa.; five great-grandchildren, Logan and Samuel Phillips and Liz, Zeth and Zachary Perches; a brother, George (Joann) Armstrong; two sisters-in-law, Tina Browning and Helen Armstrong; and a close cousin, Melvin "Buck" (Margene) Wentz.

Mathew Back

Mr. Mathew Back, 80, a resident of the Dartmoore community near Belington, departed this life Wednesday evening, Oct. 22 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. Death was sudden and unexpected.

He was born July 19, 1928, in Haddonfield, N.J., a son of the late Mathew and Florence Moss Back.

On June 28, 1954, at Phoenixville, Pa., he was united in marriage to the former Helen Mae Miller who preceded him in death on June 19, 2003.

He is survived two sons, Robert M. "Bobbie" Back of Belington and Mathew Back and wife, Barbara, of Coatesville, Pa.; and one daughter, Patricia Arlene Delnero and husband, James, of Stowe, Pa. Ten grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Weaver; one sister, Mary Back; and one brother, Charles Back.

Mr. Back was a graduate of the Haddonfield High School in Haddonfield, N.J., and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Back was a former employee of the American Lacquer Works In Oaks, Pa., and was retired from the Devault Meat Packing Plant in Devault, Pa. He attended the Belington Church of the Nazarene in Belington.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25. Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Downing Gregory officiating. Interment will follow in the Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Junior. Evelyn M. Mossor, of Harrisville, passed away Oct. 23, 2008, at her residence.

She was born at Cornwallis, in Ritchie County, on Nov. 30, 1935, the daughter of the late Michael F. and Genevieve Griffith Martin.

She retired after 27 years as a traveling nurse, having worked in West Virginia, Louisiana, Wyoming, Virginia, North Carolina and Montana, and most recently with United Physicians Care as a diabetic educator at the Harrisville, Pennsboro and West Union clinics. She belonged to the Anne Royalle Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and Harrisville Woman's Club.

She is survived by four children, sons, John W. "Wes" Mossor Jr. of Harrisville, Steven A. Mossor of Burnt House and Jeffery L. Mossor of Harrisville, and daughter, Thresa L. Prunty-Fisher of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Michael Martin of Zanesville, Ohio; sister, Helen Jo Schoolcraft of Cairo; and aunt, Mary Francis of Pullman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, John W. Mossor Sr.; and three sisters, Cathy Carney, Louetta Edwards and Donna Jean Gregg.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, in the Frederick Cemetery at Burnt House, with daughter-in-law Pastor Connie Mossor officiating. George Harvey Jr.

George Earl "Bud" Harvey Jr., 88, a former resident of Weirton, and a more recent resident of Elkins, where he and his wife made their home with their daughter, Linda Freeman and her family, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008.

He was born June 23, 1920, in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of the late George E. and Elizabeth Harvey.

On May 4, 1944, he was married to the former Julia Elizabeth Sweda, who survives in Elkins.

Also surviving are two sons, George E. Harvey III and wife, Kaye, of Nashville, Tenn., and David Bruce Harvey and wife, Betty, of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Linda J. Freeman and husband, Chuck, of Elkins; and seven grandchildren, Chad Freeman of Buckhannon, Alexis Freeman of Elkins, Mark Harvey of Oregon, George Harvey and Leslie Harvey, both of Nashville, Tenn., and Erin Kuykendall and Douglas Harvey of Texas. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Mille, Abigail and Presley.

Also preceding him in death were three sisters, Helen Regan, Anna Mae Harvey and Mary Walzer.

Mr. Harvey graduated from Steubenville High School in 1940 and worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and later worked for the Weirton Steel Tin Mill for 33 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Weirton and upon moving to Elkins he had an affiliation with the Orlena United Methodist Church at Gilman.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kaye Harvey officiating. On Monday, he will be moved to the Chapel Hill Cemetery Mausoleum at Weirton for a committal service at 1:30 p.m. Entombment will follow. Gilbert L. Hite

Gilbert L. Hite, 71, of Parkersburg, departed this life on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at the family residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Hite was born on Feb. 3, 1937, at Valley Head, a son of the late Robert Leland and Loretta Barnhart Hite.

He had been employed at Ravenswood Aluminum for 15 years, owned a construction company in Parkersburg for several years and lastly was working from the Operating Engineers Local 132 as a heavy equipment operator. He was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School and held membership in the Loyal Order of Moose Club and Fraternal Order of Eagles of Parkersburg. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, NASCAR fan and loved to socialize with friends and family. He attended the Winding Road Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Satterfield Hite; sons, Roger (Pam) Hite and Rick (Janet) Hite of Parkersburg; grandchildren Ricky Hite II, Amanda Hite and Heather Hite of Parkersburg; sisters, Geraldine Sallie of Sandyville, Wilma Jean Lee of Edmonton, Canada, Peggy Runner of Chesapeake, Va., and Beverly Jo Marouse of Clifton, Va.; stepson, Dominick Irizarry; and stepgrandchildren, Alyssa, Ian and Cameron Irizarry.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hite was preceded in death by a brother, Randall Hite; and a sister, Lucille Sullivan.

The family would like to thank Hospice for the special care given to Mr. Hite.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, from Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with the Rev. Martin L. Corbin officiating. Helen G. Kirk

Helen Gail Kirk, 84, of Delmar, Del., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, in Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on Nov. 12, 1923, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Aaron Teter and Florence Kerns Teter.

Mrs. Kirk was a 1940 graduate of Buckingham High School in Berlin, Md. Along with being a homemaker, she tended breeder hens with Perdue Farms. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles and listen to country music.

She is survived by her daughter, Hope Kirk-Thornton and husband, Daniel, of Delmar, Del.; a son, John A. Kirk and wife, Angie, of North Carolina; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth William Kirk; and two sons, Alan Ray Kirk and Kenneth Wayne Kirk.

A memorial service for family and friends will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove St., Delmar, Del. The Rev. Wayne Mathis will officiate. Sandra Straughn

Sandra Straughn, 57, passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.

Born May 23, 1951, at Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of Thomas and Mable Hammonds, who survive at Mill Creek.

She was united in marriage to Lonnie Straughn Sr., who preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, Lonnie Straughn Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Pam Hammonds; one brother, Timmy Hammonds; and two granddaughters, Josie and Bailey Straughn.

Preceding her in death besides her husband were two brothers, Danny and Larry Straughn; and one sister, Joellen Denny.

At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated. A memorial service will be held at the Runner Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Randy Long officiating.
