Irene M. Tracy

Irene Morris Davidson Tracy, 85, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.

She was born July 30, 1923, at Gaines, a daughter of the late Okey Thomas and Nora Susan Morris Davidson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles "Curge," Ronald, Darrol, Larry and Nelson Davidson; and two sisters, Betty Davidson Gum and Ethel Davidson.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Lockwood and husband, John, of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Jennifer Wentz and husband, Derek, and Jamella Shackleford and husband, Lee, all of Buckhannon; two grandsons, J.B. Lockwood II and Ryan Lockwood of Buckhannon; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Alexis McDaniels, Nora Wentz, Rosaline and Tre Shackleford and Parker Lockwood, all of Buckhannon; one sister, Inzie Davidson Pisarski of Baden, Pa.; several nieces and nephews; and Idget.

She worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon from 1956 until 1988 with 28 of those years in the nursery. She attended Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, with Dr. Joseph Shreve officiating. Nelly Tacy

Nelly Tacy, 79, passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks.

She was born May. 20, 1929, at Ravenswood, the daughter of the late George and Mary Humpstead Hamrick.

Vera H. Weese

Vera Hedrick Weese, 81, of Maysville, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, in Grant Memorial Hospital.

William W. Ward

William Walter "Bill" Ward, 79, of 275 Circle Heights Road, Weston, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, in United Hospital Center at Clarksburg, following an extended illness.

He was born Feb. 23, 1929, at Weston, a son of the late Anna Mary Peterson Ward and Martin C. Ward.

On June 28, 1950, he married Margaret Hila "Peggy" Kenner, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Peggy Jo Parks and husband, Allen, of Weston; and grandsons, William Joe "B.J." Parks and fiance, Angela Wamsley, of Buckhannon and Allen "Wade" Parks of Richmond, Ind.

Bill had been a salesman for most of his life, working for Andrews Motor, Smith Chevrolet and R.D. Wilson Paper Co. He retired from the Lewis County Commission and Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. After retirement, he and his wife, Peg, owned and operated Bill Ward Motor Sales on Circle Heights Road in Weston.

In the 1950s, Bill drove stock cars at many tracks around West Virginia and surrounding states. He loved to hunt, fish and camp, but most of all to play golf with his wife and friends. He and his daughter shared a passion for showing horses. He belonged to Weston Lodge 10, A.F. & A.M., St. Johns Commandery No. 008 Knights Templar of Weston, Lewis County Shrine Club, Nemesis Shrine of Parkersburg and Weston Moose Lodge 1376. Bill attended and was a member of the Stone Coal Methodist Church.

Friends called Sunday at Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Verl Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in Weston Masonic Cemetery.  From 13 Oct 2008.

Craig Booth

Craig Booth, 94, a resident of Boswoth Street in Philippi and former resident of Bexley, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at his residence.

He was born March 27, 1914, at Belington, a son of the late William C. and Mabel Freeman Booth.

He was married on March 13, 1939, to Ruby L. Dahmer Booth, who preceded him in death July 6, 2008, after 69 years of marriage.

Surviving are one daughter, Carol Ann and husband, James Turner, of Millersport, Ohio; one son, Craig E. Booth of Unalaska, Alaska; four grandchildren, Craig Booth III of Houston, Texas, Conrad Booth of Unalaska, Alaska, Steven Bragg of Columbia, S.C., and Lorrie Workman of Columbus, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle Bragg and Edie Workman.

Mr. Booth was a welder for Lennox Furnace Co. in Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of the Bigelow Lodge 52 A.F. & A.M. for 60 years after joining on May 3, 1948, initiated into the Mysteries of Free Masonry A.L. 5948. He was a member of the Scottish Rite for 57 years Spring Class of 1951, joining the Valley of Clarksburg -Spring Class of 1951 - and Valley of the Wheeling on April 14, 1951, Master of the Royal Secret of the 32nd Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. Mr. Booth joined the Osiris Shrine of NA on May 5, 1951, Valley of Orient - Clarksburg and Wheeling - and was a 59-year member of the Benevolent Protective Order Elks Lodge 306, joining on Sept. 15, 1949.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi, Wednesday from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, with speaker Lewis Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow in the Belington Fraternal Cemetery with the Bigelow Lodge 52 conducting graveside rites. Nelly Tacy

Nellie Tacy, 79, a former resident of Randolph County and a more recent resident of Morgantown, where she made her home with her son, Harry Tacy Jr., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for the past two weeks.

Born May 20, 1929, at Ravenswood, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Humpstead Hamrick.

She had been twice married. Her first husband, Kessler Sharp, preceded her in death, and her second husband, Harry Tacy, also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Martha Tacy of Grottoes, Va., and Mary Murdock of Tennessee; and three sons, William "Bill" Hamrick of Elkins, Harry Tacy Jr. of Morgantown and Glenn Hamrick of Broadway, Va. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Nellie was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two sisters, Goldie Hamrick and Fanny Hamrick; one brother, Glenn Hamrick; and one granddaughter.

Nellie was a member of Faithway Baptist Church and a member of the Randolph County Senior Center.

Friends will be received at Runner Funeral Home today after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Brandi N. Salisbury

Brandi Nichole Scheitlin Salisbury, 26, passed away Oct. 14, 2008. Death was sudden and unexpected.

She was born May 28, 1982, in Elkins, the daughter of Robert Brown and Kimberly Barlow of Elkins.

She was married to Daniel Salisbury of Elkins.

Ronald E. Westfall

Ronald Eugene Westfall, 52, a former resident of Buckhannon and more recently a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center departed this life late Monday morning, Oct. 13, 2008, at the nursing home.

He was born Saturday, Oct. 15, 1955, at Clarksburg, a son of the late Charles Edward Westfall Sr. and Helen L. Knapp Westfall, who survives at Hepzibah.

Also surviving him are one son, Christopher L. Westfall of Morgantown; five brothers, Charles Edward Westfall II, David W. Westfall and wife, Christina, of Marriottsville, Md., Michael A. Westfall of Elkins, Robert D. Westfall and Randy L. Westfall and wife, Cindy, all of Buckhannon; three sisters, Janet L. Carr of Pinellas Park, Fla., Carrie M. Vanscoy and husband, Jeff, of Hepzibah and Helen D. Warner and husband, Roger, of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

Ronald was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1974, was the manager of the A&P of Kingwood, was a manager of Rite-Aid at Westover until becoming disabled in 2001 and had been an avid golfer.

At Ronald's request, his remains were cremated. A memorial service will be at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate. Vivian V. Goddin

Vivian Virginia Johnston Goddin, 92, a resident of Elkins since 1946, departed this life Monday morning, Oct.13, 2008, in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.

She was born Sunday, March 5, 2008, at Vivian in McDowell County, a daughter of the late Con Johnston and Mary Jane Wayne Johnston.

On March 19, 1938, she was married to Omar Thomas Goddin, who preceded her in death on July 6, 1973. They had celebrated 37 years of marriage.

Surviving her are two daughters, Nancy G. Miller and husband, Mike, of Silver Spring, Md., and Kathy G. Baker and husband, Luther, of Canvas; two brothers, W.P. Johnston of Rising Sun, Md., and Connie W. Johnston of Renick; two sisters, Sylvia Drunkenmiller of Littleton, Colo., and Anna Lee Vaughn of Clearwater, Fla.; two grandsons, William H. Sudbrink and wife, Emily, of Silver Spring, Md., and Thomas G. Sudbrink and wife, Kristin, of Burtonsville, Md.; two granddaughters, Erin Miller and husband, J.B., of Richwood and Molly Mace of Charleston; three great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

Preceding her in death were one stepdaughter, Mary Alice Knouse; one brother, A.D. Johnston; and two sisters, Theta Workman and Lucille Gabbert.

Vivian was a graduate of Renick High School in Greenbrier County with the class of 1934 and a graduate of Wheeling Beauty Academy at Wheeling. During World War II, she became a certified draftsman, working at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, Md. She was a homemaker, a member of the Randolph Chapter 74 Order of the Eastern Star, past worthy high priestess of Alpha White Shrine of Jerusalem, Randolph Chapter 200, Rebekah Lodge, Tygart Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Friday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at which time Mrs. Goddin will be moved to Elkins Memorial Gardens, formerly the IOOF Cemetery, at Elkins where the Revs. Douglas A. Hiram Sexton

Hiram Sexton, 76, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, in Nella's Inc.

He was born Thursday, June 16, 1932, in South Carolina, a son of the late Charlie and Jessie Boyce.

He is survived by one son, one sister and a great-nephew.

Rachel L. Thorne

Mrs. Rachel Lucille Brown Thorne, 61, a resident of 803 Beverly Pike in Belington, and more recently of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, departed this life at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, in the care facility.

She was born Feb. 16, 1947, at Laurens, S.C., a daughter of the late Clarence Alvin and Marjory Higgins Brown.

On Nov. 11, 1987, she was married to Thomas L. Thorne, who resides at their home in Belington.

She is survived by one son, Thomas Torres III of Killeen, Texas; and two daughters, Tina Marie Albino of Austin, Texas, and Theresa Diane Farmer of Augusta, Ga. Additional survivors include her mother-in-law; Vivian Thorne of Belington; one brother, Clarence Alvin Brown of Augusta, Ga; six grandchildren, Christopher Albino, Nicholas Albino, Christee Albino, Michael Werner, Ashley Werner, Silvia Torres and Nina Bero.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, J.J. Scarborough.

Mrs. Thorne attended the schools of Augusta, Ga., and attended the Weaver Church of the Nazarene. She was a certified nurse's aid and formerly was employed at Talbott Personal Care Home. Rachel loved cooking for people, making crafts and especially making homemade Christmas ornaments. She will be greatly missed by all.

Brandi N. Salisbury

Brandi Nicole Scheitlin Salisbury, 26, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008. Death was sudden and unexpected.

Born May 28, 1982, at Elkins, she was the daughter of Robert and Kimberly Brown of Elkins.

On Feb. 14, 2003, she was united in marriage to Daniel Salisbury, who survives in Dailey.

Surviving are grandparents, Judy and Robert Brown of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Paige Meadows of Elkins; one brother, Mikeal Vandevender and wife, Angel; two nieces, Savannah Williams and Lily Vandevender; one nephew, Cyrus Vandevender; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Faye and Jim Salisbury; sister-in-law, Sandy Salisbury, and brother-in-law, Tim Salisbury, all of Mill Creek. Also surviving are aunt, Jeanie Barlow and husband, James, of Montrose; cousin, Rusty Wyatt and Heather Warner of Elkins; aunt, Sheila Scheitlin and companion, Eugene Cross; cousin, Shannon Shrader; uncle, Mark Scheitlin and wife, Julainie; cousin, Amber Scheitlin of Hope Well, Va.; uncle, Lewis "Rocky" Scheitlin and partner, Robert Wright, of Narrows, Va.; aunt, Debbie Scheitlin of Fairmont; cousins, Brooke and Robert Lambert of Elkins; uncle, Patrick Brown of Maryland; uncle, Doug Brown of North Carolina; great-aunt, Joy Arbogast and husband, Brad; great-aunt, Betty Arbogast and husband, Clarence, all of Mill Creek; a special cousin, Shelly Arbogast of Mill Creek; and stepfather, Curtis Vandevender of Elkins.

Preceding her in death were one infant son; and grandparents, Eloise and Lewis "Bud" Scheitlin, and Pearle and Clarence Arbogast.

Brandi enjoyed reading, writing poetry and music. She loved camping and collecting porcelain dolls. Brandi loved spending time with her family and friends.

Mary E. Wooddell

Mary E. Wooddell, 78, of Bartow, passed away Oct. 15, 2008, at her home.

Mrs. Wooddell was born June 19, 1930, at Bartow, the daughter of the late Mervin and Peggy Peck Wimer.

Mary attended the Durbin Church of the Brethren and the Mennonite Church of Brush Run. She retired after 30 years from the Hanover Shoe Co. and was a member of the senior center at Green Bank.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Wooddell; and a brother, Bill Wimer.

Surviving are one daughter, Charlene Whanger and her husband, David, of Buckhannon, and their son, Jason Whanger and wife, Stacey, of Morgantown; one son, Ron Wooddell and his wife, Rosie, of Huntington, and their daughters, Kristy and Katrina of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a special nephew, Mike Wimer and his wife, Laura, of Alexandria, Va.; and a special niece, Diann Elza and her husband, Larry, of Durbin. Andy A. Ours

Andy Amos "Dump" Ours, 60, of Cabins, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at his home.

Claris Bradshaw

Claris Mae Bradshaw, 85, of Centre Avenue, Belington, died Thursday evening, Oct. 16, at her home following an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 14, 1923, near Grafton, a daughter of the late James Rutherford and the late Tessie (Pringle) Rutherford Davis.

She was married four times and was preceded in death by her first husband, John Adams; by her second husband, Raymond Jenkins; and by her third husband, Harry B. Moats. On Nov. 15, 1995, she was married to the Rev. William L. Bradshaw, who survives at their home in Belington.

Also surviving are one daughter, Sandra England and husband, Truman, of Philippi; one son, John Donald Adams and wife, Sheril, of Pruntytown; three stepchildren, Juanita Faesenmeier and husband, Emil Sr., of Belington, Carl Bradshaw and wife, Virginia, of Summersville, and Marvin Bradshaw and wife, Denise, of Leavasy; one sister, Doris McDaniel of Fairmont; three grandchildren, Kelli England, Kim Balfour and Truman "J.R." England Jr.; eight stepgrandchildren, Joseph William Faesenmeier, Adam Christopher Faesenmeier, Amber Eleda Faesenmeier, John William Bradshaw, Christy Mae Bradshaw, Carrie Jo Raney, Anna Marie Parsons and Adam Scott Bradshaw; five great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Elza Rutherford.

Mrs. Bradshaw was a homemaker and a member of the Belington Church of the Nazarene.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, from the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave., Belington. The Rev. Richard Chambers will officiate and interment will follow in the Barbour Memorial Cemetery.

Margaret B. Gum

Mrs. Margaret Bernice Barlow Gum, 71, a resident of Route 1, Belington, departed this life at 10:35 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at her residence. She had been in declining health for quite some time.

She was born March 29, 1937, at Valley Bend in Randolph County, the daughter of the late Alfred and Bernice Barlow.

In 1956, she was married to Don W. Gum, who resides at their home in Belington.

She is survived by one son, Michael R. Gum of Hazel Park, Mich.; and three daughters, Susan D. Gum of Valley Bend, Sherry Marstiller of Belington and Brenda K. Gum of Belington. She is also survived by three sisters, Nora Healey and her husband, Wilbur, of Elkins, Joann Akers of Montrose and Bev Keefer of Norton; four brothers, David Barlow and Charles Barlow of Montrose, Allen Barlow and wife, Carol, of Elkins and James Barlow and wife, Jeanie, of Montrose; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Gary A. Barlow and David P. Gum; one daughter, Carol A. Gum; and one sister, Barbara McCauley.

Mrs. Gum attended the schools of Randolph County and attended the Refuge Church of Kerens. Margaret was a homemaker and will be greatly missed by all.

Jacob W. Currence, 109, a former resident of Cassity and a resident of Valentine's Personal Care Home in Elkins, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 17, 2008, in the personal care home.

He was born Nov. 2, 1898, at Hemlock, a son of the late Peter and Lydia Ann Light Currence.

On Oct. 15, 1921, he was married to Almira Pomp Currence who preceded him in death on July 14, 1975.

Surviving are four sons, Carrol Currence of Mill Creek, Marvin Currence of Cassity, O.B. Currence of Mabie and Clyde Currence of Buckhannon. Five daughters, Macel Tenny of Mill Creek, Zella Pastine of Cassity, Eleanor Demotto of Mabie, Deloris Shank of Bridgewater, Va., and Mary Hall of Ruckersville, Va.; one brother, Oren Currence of Elkins; 28 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Also preceding him in death were three sons, Junior, Jimmie and Loren Currence; five sisters, Icie Lanham, Janie Pomp, Plesie Currence, Jenny Tenny and Fannie Hodges; three brothers, Dudley, James and Maxwell Currence; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Currence was employed as a woodsman, farmer and railroader, and worked for Peerless Coal Co. prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Cassity United Methodist Church and served as a local Methodist minister for several years. He was an avid gardner, a dedicated Christian and will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Monday, Oct. 20, Mr. Currence will be moved to the Mount Olive United Methodist Church at Hemlock for visitation from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Holly Hoover will officiate and interment will follow in the Mount Olive Cemetery. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Jacob W. Currence.
