George Hunter "Bo" Jackson, 71, a resident of Elkins, departed this life late Friday evening in Davis Memorial Hospital.

Sonny R. Gower
Sonny R. Gower, 56, of Sharpe Hospital in Weston, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, in Sharpe Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1952, in Upshur County, a son of the late Gerald and Helen Ruth Wamsley Gower.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Deborah Wojciki Gower; and his second wife, Connie Beam Phillips Gower.
Mr. Gower is survived by two sons, Sonny Gower II of South Charleston and Steven Gower of Weston; two brothers, Buck Gower of Taylorsville, N.C., and Danny Gower of Buckhannon; and one sister, Donna Godsave of Meadeville, Pa.
Mr. Gower served with the U.S. Army and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Buckhannon.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Jeremiah McSweeny as the celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Garland Logan Ice
The Rev. Garland Logan Ice, 90, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008, in Valentine's Assisted Living in Beverly.
He was born June 7, 1918, at Monterville, a son of the late Logan Jackson Ice and the late Leafy Stalnaker Ice.
On Oct. 19, 1945, he was married to the late Mary Louise Pingley Ice, who preceded him in death Dec. 17, 2007.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harley Ice; a sister, Elva Ice; a half brother, Arthur Ice; and a half sister, Maxine Cain.
Surviving the Rev. Ice are a son, James Lee Ice and wife, Deborah, of Mill Creek; a daughter, Mary Ellen Guzy and husband, Ralph, of Morristown, Tenn.; and a foster son, William Swiger and wife, Peggy, of Mill Creek. Six grandchildren also survive, Lucy Ice Ringer and husband, Ben, of Lakeland, Fla., Lee Ice of Lakeland, Fla;, Stephen Ice of Mill Creek, Andy Guzy and wife, Kate, of Asheville, N.C., Becky Swiger of Mill Creek and Diana Morgan of Beverly; and a great-granddaughter, Natalie Morgan of Beverly. He is also survived by two half brothers Harry Ice of Marietta, Ohio, and Charles Ice of Lowell, Ohio; and five half sisters, Norma Jean Cain of Vincent, Ohio, Shirley Penland and Betty McIntire of Lowell, Ohio, Bonnie Sams of Coolville, Ohio, and Joann Reed of Reedsville, Ohio.
The Rev. Ice retired from the U.S. Postal Service after serving 29 years as a rural mail carrier in the Mill Creek, Valley Bend and Huttonsville areas. Prior to his retirement from the mail route, he entered the Methodist ministry on a part-time basis and upon retirement served fulltime several years on United Methodist charges in Preston, Monongalia and Barbour counties. He was a longtime member of the Mill Creek United Methodist Church and was active in church and community affairs, including Boy Scout Troop 95 of Mill Creek, the Mill Creek Playground Association and Tyrand Cooperative Parish.

Ian C. Mick
Ian Christopher Mick, 44, of Buckhannon, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at his home.
He was born Aug. 7, 1963, at Ronceverte, a son of the Rev. Billee Scott Mick and Oleta Teets Mick, both of Buckhannon.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kelli Ann Gould; three brothers, Evangelist John Scott Mick of Elkview, Michael Erin Mick of Tucson, Ariz., and Navy CPO Kevin Patrick Mick of Horsham, Pa.; one sister, Billie Sharleen Ulm of Liverpool, N.Y.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roger and Jamie Gould of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Brandi.
Chris is loved and will be missed by all. He was the owner and operator of ICM Satellite Systems. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. James E. Davis Jr.
James Everette "Jim" Davis Jr., 61, of Petersburg, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 24, 2008, in the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va.
Mr. Davis was born Feb. 15, 1947, in Pocahontas County, the son of Addie "Estelle" Yochem Vance of Petersburg and the late James Everette Davis Sr.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of Brake Church of the Brethren and an equipment operator with MeadWestvaco.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Kevin "Scott" Davis and wife, Ronda, of Grottoes, Va; stepfather, Ralph Vance of Petersburg; three brothers, Daniel Davis, Ralph Vance II and Phil Vance, all of Petersburg; five sisters, Judy Baker of Moorefield, Rebecca Lambert of Harrisonburg, Va., Brenda Gragg of Elkins, Pamela Landis and Yvonne Black, both of Petersburg; two grandchildren, Chandler James Davis and Autumn Rayne Davis, both of Grottoes, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at the Brake Church of the Brethren near Petersburg with Pastor Craig Howard officiating. Robert McCauley Sr.
Robert Keith McCauley Sr., 75, a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center for the past year, passed away Sunday in the center.
He was born Sept. 10, 1932, at Davis, a son of the late Russell Stewart and Ettie Elizabeth Shrader McCauley.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Keith McCauley Jr. and wife, Jeri Ann, of New Smyrna, Fla., and Brian Edward McCauley of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three brothers, Charles L. McCauley and wife, Arleen, of Wainae, Hawaii, Russell S. McCauley Jr. of Huttonsville and Paul E. McCauley of Colonial Heights, Va.; one sister, Patricia M. Ware and husband, Fred, of East Dailey; grandchildren, Joseph, Aaron, Mark and Brianna; and a special great-niece, Alyssa Olivia.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, James McCauley and Harry McCauley.
Mr. McCauley was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict and was employed by Denman Tire of Warren, Ohio, prior to becoming disabled in 1981. He was a Protestant by faith, an avid bowler and golfer having received numerous trophies and was an avid West Virginia University Mountaineer fan and a Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.
Mr. McCauley's remains will be cremated. Interment of the cremains will follow at a later date in the Elkins Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Virginia M. Snyder
Virginia Mae "Jenny" Lanham Snyder, 70, of Mill Creek, passed away July 27, 2008, at the home of her daughter.
She was born May 26, 1938, at Hemlock in Upshur County, to the late Van Buren and Icie Elenor (Currence) Lanham.
Virginia attended Tygarts Valley High School and graduated in 1956. On Oct. 8 of that year, she was married to the late Fred Irvin "Pug" Snyder, and to this union eight children were born.
Survivors include three sons, Denver Allen Snyder of Massanutten, Va., Daniel Eugene Snyder and wife, Tammy, of Hopewell, Va., and David Wade Snyder and wife, Laura, of Valley Bend; five daughters, Delores Ann Louk and husband, Ottis, of Huttonsville, Dianna Lynn McCauley and husband, Roger, of Hewett, Debra Jean Armstrong and husband, Ronnie, of Mill Creek, Donna Denise McLaughlin and husband, Ronnie, of Newburg, Md., and Dora Lee Kelley of Dailey; three brothers, Lyde "Doc" Lanham and wife, Ronetta, of Ravenna, Ohio, Eugene Lanham and wife, Shirley, of Mill Creek and Donald Lanham and wife, Cindy, of Valley Bend; three sisters, Thelma Haney and husband, Richard, Barbara Sue Sutton and husband, Dixie, and Mary Lanham, all of Mill Creek; one sister-in-law, Naomi Lanham of Mill Creek; one brother-in-law, Ralph Snyder; and 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Wade and Bain Lanham; and two infant sisters, Bonnie and Wanda Lanham.
In 1973, Virginia graduated from the Davis Memorial Hospital School of Practical Nursing. Virginia was employed with the Elkins Convalescent Center were she served those in need for 32 years. Virginia was a member of Point Mountain Church.
Visitation will be at Runner Funeral Home Wednesday, July 30, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., the funeral hour with the Rev. Marshall Williams and the Rev. Roger McCauley officiating. Interment will follow in the Jerusalem United Methodist Cemetery in Mill Creek. Arrangements for Virginia have been entrusted to the Runner Funeral Home of Elkins. From 29 Jul 2008.

Carl Hedrick Sr.
Carl Keith "Sonny" Hedrick Sr., 81, a well-known businessman of Tucker County for 60 years, and a resident of Hendricks, went to be with the Lord Monday afternoon, July 28, 2008, at his home with his family at his bedside, following an extended illness.
He was born Monday, Sept. 13, 1926, at Hendricks, a son of the late Iva Marie Hedrick and grandson of the late Andrew Hedrick.
On Dec. 22, 1944, at Monterey, Va., he was united in marriage to the former Lorraine Isabel Sponaugle, who survives in Hendricks. They had celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, Carl K. "Jody" Hedrick Jr. and wife, Rita, of Elkins; one daughter, Sandra Kay Bava and husband, Pete, of Hendricks; seven grandchildren, Colby Hedrick, Angenette Pase, Nyckie Mitchell, Mark and Martin Moore, Kara Payne and Andrew "Jake" Bava; eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Landon and Lucas Mitchell, Madison and Audrey Moore, Mac and Hayden Payne and Sutton Pase and a soon-expected great-grandson, Russell Moore; and a very special cousin, Virginia "Skip" Wamsley.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1945. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II, where he was stationed in Korea and the Philippines. He faithfully attended church services at the Hendricks United Methodist Church and the Sycamore Grove Church at Bull Run. He was owner and operator of Carl K. Hedrick Store in Hendricks. It was during this time that he became a good friend to the citizens of Tucker County and surrounding areas, serving his customers with his appliances, plumbing and electrical products, furniture, groceries, heating and cooling supplies, while entertaining them with his many "truthful" and delightful stories and witty humor. He enjoyed his life by extending his helping hand to others. He was the recipient of the Parsons High School Alumni Hall of Fame in honor and recognition for his outstanding achievements and contributions to economy, business and community, church and civic endeavors. He was featured in the West Virginia Golden Seal Magazine (Spring 2003, "Go See Sonny") as having one of the last "Jot-it-Down" stores in West Virginia.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Friday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Pat Cassidy and the Rev. Loren Metzner will officiate and interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, where the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites.

James S. Grey
James Stanley Grey, 69, a resident of North Randolph Avenue, Elkins, departed this life late Sunday evening, July 27, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Wednesday, Feb. 15, 1939, at Brownton, a son of the late Edward Franklin Grey Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth Wilson Grey.
On Dec.23, 1982, at Elkins, he was married to the former Deloris Leah Corder, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, James Cummins and wife, Tammy, of Elkins; two daughters, Pam Parlett and Crystal Grey, both of Harrisonburg, Va.; one brother, Roger Wilson and companion, Patty, of Pleasant Hills, Mo.; three sisters, Virginia Lewis and husband, Terry, of Baltimore, Md., Elizabeth Wagner of Dailey and Brenda Martin and husband, Rick, Mill Creek; two grandchildren, Neisha Cummins and Mia Prieto; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Edward Franklin Grey Jr. and Robert Grey; and two sisters, Karen Jarboe and Terica Martin.
He attended the schools of Barbour County, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, had previously worked in the coal mines and for more than 18 years had worked as a trimmer operator for the Coastal Lumber Co. He was a member of the Believer's Fellowship Church at Montrose, loved NASCAR, football and wrestling and collected many hats.

Virginia M. Hyre
Virginia M. Hyre, 90, a resident of Chenoweth Creek and more recently a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away Sunday evening, July 27, 2008, in the center.
She was born Sept. 2, 1917, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Harley Brewer Evans and Lena Dove Lowther Evans.
On Feb. 6, 1938, she was married to Willie Granville Hyre, who preceded her in death Oct. 22, 2003.
Surviving are one granddaughter, Christine Shifflett and husband, Terry, and great-grandson, Tyler Shifflett of Elkins; three brothers, Robert Evans and wife, Joyce, and Hubert Evans, all of Elkins, and Edgar Evans and wife, Mary Ann, of Roanoke, Va.; and three sisters, Mildred Doerr, Margaret Carr and Katherine Chenoweth, all of Elkins.
Also preceding her in death were two sons, William David Hyre and Gary Russell Hyre; one brother, Ralph Evans; and three sisters, Verda Nestor, Ruth Hitt and Mabel Cook.
Mrs. Hyre was a homemaker. She was a very active, lifelong member of Hart Chapel Church at Chenoweth Creek where she was secretary-treasurer for 30 years. She was a member of Delphia Rebekah Lodge No. 62 of Elkins for over 50 years. She held various offices with the lodge including Noble Grand.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Delphia Rebekah Lodge No. 62 will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel. Cindy M. Shelton
Cindy Marie Shelton, 42, of Route 1, Flemington the Simpson community, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at her residence.
Cindy was born on Oct. 13, 1965, at Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Charles W. and Delores A. Vest Lynch.
Cindy is survived by her husband, William H. "Bill" Shelton; and three sisters: Kimberly and husband, Randy, Landes of Greenbrier, Brenda Acosta of McKinley, Fla., and Rebecca "Becky" Dawson of Clarksburg. Also surviving Cindy are eight nieces and nephews and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Cindy was a member of the Union Baptist Church in Simpson. She loved her family and husband and will be missed very much. Cindy also had a great love for her many animals.
The family will receive friends at the Bradley J. Mayle Funeral Home in Flemington today from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Donald Fittro
Donald Fittro, 45, of Elkins, passed away July 29, 2008, at his residence.
Born Aug. 10, 1962, at Clarksburg, to the late Donald Fittro and Constance Flannery, Donald attended Harrison County High School and West Virginia Business College.
Survivors include his companion, Leeanna Helckler of Elkins; two daughters, Jessica and Carly Fittro; and three sisters, Donna and Ray Mearns of Beverly, Linda Moore of Doddridge County and Beverly Anglin of Nutter Fort.
At Donald's request, the remains will be cremated. There will be a memorial service at a later date. The Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Donald Fittro. From 31 Jul 2008.

"Bo" started his life journey Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1937, at Frank, one of 15 children of the late Edward Jackson and Rhoda Carter Jackson.
George leaves to cherish his memories, his twin daughters, Brianna May Jackson and Brittany Maria Jackson, both of Elkins; two sons, George Edward Tyler "Baby Bo" Jackson of Elkins and wife, Christina Lynn Jackson of Galax, Va., and Kenneth White and wife, Beverly, of Elkhart, Ind.; one stepdaughter, Rebecca Sue Owens of Elkins; one stepson, Michael Ray Collins of Kew Gardens, N.Y.; three especially loved grandchildren, Alexis Jade Kern, Alizaye Brynn Jackson and Nicholas Adam Owens; one brother, Robert H. Jackson of Philadelphia, Pa.; three sisters, Gladys L. Walker of Plainfield, N.J., Nancy M. Marsh and Linda C. Jackson, both of Columbus, Ohio; one half sister, Helen Brown of Plainfield, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves to cherish his memories, the mother of his children, Rita May Louk; and other special friends.
He was well known as "Bo" to family and friends across the United States and Germany. He was also nicknamed "Bobey" by his loving mother, Rhoda Jackson.
Preceding him in death were four sisters, Juanita Womack, Agnes E. Toles, Genevieve Ann McDonald and Emily Mae Jackson; and six brothers, Charles W. Jackson, Joseph Ray Jackson, Edward T. Jackson, Carter D. Jackson, Walter L. Jackson and Dewey Asbury Jackson.
"Bo" attended the schools of Durbin and the Riverside School at Elkins, was a graduate of Green Bank High School at Green Bank where he graduated fourth out of 50 students and was a member of varsity "G" for two years. He played varsity basketball and football, was the junior class president and was a member of Future Farmers of America. He was also a graduate of the Lincoln Technical Institute where he earned his diploma in air conditioning, refrigeration and heating technology.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from September 1956 to March 1977, when he retired with 21 years of service as a technical sergeant. During his career he served as a technical instructor for NCOIC Administration and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal with one silver Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Longevity Service Award with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the H. W. Daniel's Post 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Pertie N. Perkins
Pertie Naomi Perkins, 86, of Winfield, formerly of Birch River, died July 28, 2008.
She was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Braxton County, a daughter of the late John W. and Melissa Berry Tenney Whytsell.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, H. Donald Perkins; and 13 brothers and sisters.
She was a member of the Birch River Baptist Church in Birch River, attended Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Hurricane and worked as a kitchen aide at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon.
She is survived by one son, H. Donald Perkins Jr. of New Hope, Pa,; and 4 daughters, Barbara Perkins of Winfield, Linda Dodrill of Birch River, Beverly Ramsburg of Jane Lew and Mary Jane Lee of Statesville, N.C. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Birch River Baptist Church at Birch River with Dr. Jeffrey Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Cox Cemetery at Birch River. Robert R. Daniels
Robert Ronald "Bob" Daniels, 74, a resident of the Chenoweth Creek Road community, Elkins, departed this life Wednesday morning, July 30, 2008, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Sunday, Aug. 27, 1933, at Elkins, a son of the late Guy Wesley Daniels and Ethel Mae Daniels.
On March 17, 1956, at Elkins, he was married to the former Dorothy Louise "Dottie" Channell, who survives. They had celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, Jeffrey Steven Daniels of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Debra Ann Daniels and husband, Dr. David McClure, Bruceton Mills and Tracy Lynn Combs and husband, Kevin, of Charlottesville, Va.; one brother, Alton Guy Daniels and wife, Sue, of Elkins; one sister, Orlela Daniels Combs and husband, Adrian, of Hazard, Ky.; five grandchildren, Dr. Samuel McClure, Jordan, Kelsey, Madison and Robert Combs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was one infant son, Robert R. Daniels Jr.; one brother, Gavin W. Daniels; and three sisters, Bernadine Daniels Poe, Mary Elaine Daniels and Delores Daniels Sedivy.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1950, where he was a member of the football squad, No. 16, under the coaching of Coach Frank Wimer. He received a football scholarship at Davis & Elkins College and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a dairy and beef farmer for many years. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he enjoyed his Friday night poker games with his devoted "buddies."

Allen T. Woolums
The Rev. Allen Thomas Woolums, 85, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 24, 1923, at Lexington, Ky., son of the late Ben Lewis and Rosa Harrod Woolums.
On July 30, 1945, at Belington, he was married to Anna Gumm, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving is one son, Daniel Woolums and Cheryl of Cross Lanes; three daughters, Sharon Woolums of New York, N.Y., Viki and Johnny Facemire of Sutton and Betsy and Dana Moyers of Lewisburg; one brother, Jim Woolums of Fairfield, Calif;, two sisters, Mary Meadows of Charleston and Jo Ann Bacon of Portland, Ore.; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were one grandson, Gregory Woolums; one sister, Rosela Foster; and five brothers, Frank, Cecil, Ben, Charles and Donald Woolums.
The Rev. Woolums graduated from Lafayette High School in 1943 and attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn. At age 16, he began preaching and was ordained in the Nazarene Church in 1947. He pastored for 46 years. His first pastorate was in Belington and later served in Sistersville, St. Marys, Charleston Valley Grove, Moundsville, Logan, Spencer and Huntington Walnut Hills. His last pastorate was at the Colonial Nazarene Church in Orlando, Fla., prior to returning to Elkins in 1994. He then served as interim pastor in Elkins and Parsons. He held many offices including trustee of Trevecca Nazarene College, president of American Red Cross and chairman of the American Cancer Society in Roane County, PTA president in Valley Grove, president of the Moundsville, Logan, Sistersville and Spencer Ministerial Associations and many offices in the Nazarene West Virginia District. While serving as president of the Moundsville Ministerial Association, he began a chaplain program at the former Moundsville Penitentiary visiting then Gov,Barron to obtain funding. He loved working with youth and was Senior High Youth Director at the Nazarene Church Camp for 12 years. He loved God, his family, his church and the West Virginia Nazarene Camp at Summersville which he helped to build in 1943.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today at Elkins First Church of the Nazarene at Gilman and Saturday from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m., the funeral hour. Lula Eileen "Sue" Tallman Williams, 81, of Tallmansville, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, in St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.
She was born Feb. 9, 1927, at Ten Mile, a daughter of the late Moffett Edgar and Mayme Coral Beer Tallman.
On Feb. 2, 1946, she married Claude Earl Williams, who survives.
Also, surviving are four daughters, Susan Petree and husband, Pete, of Ten Mile, Marcia Cross and husband, Albie, of Fairmont, Jenelda Puzzo and husband, Dan, of Woodstock, Ill., and Sandy Carney and husband, Ed, of Abingdon, Va.; one son, Mark Williams and wife, Twila, of Tallmansville; one brother, Victor Tallman of Buckhannon; and 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Michael Earl Williams; three brothers, Kenneth, Glen and Roger Tallman; and one sister, June Larosa Peluso.
Mrs. Williams was a secretary for FMC Corp. She was a member of the Ten Mile United Methodist Church, Ten Mile Community Education Outreach Service, Tennerton Lions Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Upshur County class of 1945 Treasurer, 1996 Miss Upshur County Belle, past matron of Nitro Order of the Eastern Star and past president of Nitro Women's Club.

Earl Scott Simpson, 83, a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, Belington, formerly of Chestnut Street, Philippi, died Friday morning, Aug. 1, 2008, in the Good Samaritan Center following an extended illness.
He was born June 2, 1925, at Philippi, a son of the late Lewis Arthur and Maggie Nancy (Daugherty) Simpson.
Surviving are one sister, Kathleen Bennett of Philippi; nieces, Glenna Ketchem of Philippi, Jean Rosier of Belington, Betty Markley of Lorain, Ohio, Nita Siefert of Spring Fort, Mich., Lula Jean Thomason of Green Acres, Fla., Diane Busch of Baltimore, Md., and Ruby Jean Hammers of Jonesboro, Ga.; nephews, Sonny Bennett, Mike Bennett and Jerry Finley, all of Philippi, Butch Bennett of Belington, Roger Simpson of Baltimore, Md., and Scotty Simpson of Aberdeen, Md.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Corda Posten, Blanche Delauder, Sylvia Bunnell and Goldie Simpson; and by four brothers, Craig Simpson, Orlan "Bill" Simpson, Lewie W. Simpson and Charles Simpson.
Mr. Simpson was visually impaired at an early age. He was a lifelong member of the Philippi Church of Christ. He enjoyed listening to gospel music and broadcasts of Baltimore Orioles baseball.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St., Philippi. R.D. Ice, minister of the Union Church of Christ, will officiate and interment will follow in the Pitman Cemetery.

Lady Ann Foster, 74, a resident of Route 3, Belington, passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital.
Ann was born April 27, 1934, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Charles Allen "Al" and Mandaine "Lady" (Olson) Bryne.
Ann was united in marriage Sept. 11, 1960 to Hobart Foster Jr., who preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 2003.
Surviving are one son, Jerry L. and wife, Coty B. Foster, of Route 2, Boothsville; and two brothers, Robert "Bob" Allen Bryne and Lars Olson Bryne of Philippi.
Ann was preceded in death by one nephew, Jeffrey "Jeff" Bryne.
Ann retired from Barbour County Schools as a teacher's aide. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 41. Ann was an avid painter and enjoyed playing music; for several years, she served as organist for the Belington Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Tygart Valley Dorcas Rebekah Lodge 181 and the Belington Federated Women's Club. Ann was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where she served as choir director and was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Ladies Auxiliary.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi where the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 41 will conduct memorial services at 7 p.m. and Tygart Valley Rebekah Lodge 181 will conduct memorial services at 7:15 p.m. Visitation will resume Sunday, Aug. 3, from 8 a.m. to noon, at which time she will be moved to the Asbury United Methodist Church to lie in state from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Mavis E. Zickefoose
Mavis Elizabeth Zickefoose, 86, of Buckhannon died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at her home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.
She was born July 10, 1922, at Ellamore, a daughter of the late John A. and Viola Wratchford Pratt. On April 21, 1941, she married Paul Russell Zickefoose, who preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1984.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Bradley and Edgar Zickefoose; three sisters, Martha Lewis, Gaynell Swick and Annie Tenney; and two grandsons, Randall Currence and Randall Malcom.
She is survived by five daughters, Lora Viola Currence and husband, Gene, of Buckhannon, Paulette Malcolm and husband, James, of Newton Falls, Ohio, Judy Stackpole and husband, Ronald, of Buckhannon, Celesta Stump and husband, Mike, of Buckhannon and Hope Wamsley and husband, Donald, of Buckhannon; one son, Paul David Zickefoose and wife, Brenda, of Philippi; one sister, Patricia Kelley of Buckhannon; special friends and care givers, Lisa Stackpole and Trudy Crawford; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Zickefoose was a homemaker and a member of the Liberty Baptist Church of Buckhannon.

Mr. Odbert Charles Ware, 80, a resident of 133 Elliot Ave. in Belington, departed this life Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at his home.
