Ada K. Wilson

Ada Kelley Wilson, 83, of Frenchton, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2008, at her home.

She was born Dec. 4, 1924, at Webster Springs, the daughter of the late Otis and Daisy Underwood Kelley.

She was preceded in death in September of 1965 by her husband, Roger Wilson. An infant son and infant brother, two sisters, Joy Dale Wilson and Sandra Jo Tenney; brother, Gerald Kelley; son-in-law, Merl Strader; and two grandsons, Roger Wayne Strader and Zachary Howell also preceded her in death.

She is survived by four children, Ginger Strader and companion, Mike Sanders, of Frenchton, Alan Wilson and wife, Carolyn, of Sistersville, Tim Wilson and wife, Peggy, of Showlow, Ariz., and Rhoda McIntyre and husband, Robert, of Fairmont; eight grandchildren, Charlene Marie Page and husband, Jimmy, Jeremey Allen Wilson and wife, Rebecca Evans-Wilson, Mark Daniel Wilson and companion, Holly Duffy, Brandi Hosaflook, Brock and Aaron Wilson and Ashley and Jennifer Wright; one great-granddaughter, Saphire Kay Page; three brothers, Otis “Bud” Kelley of Tucson, Ariz., Joe Kelley of Duncan, Ariz., and Gary “Lew” Kelley of French Creek; and two sisters, Dee LaVrar of Toledo, Ohio, and Connie Simmons of Frenchton.

Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker, a retired substitute teacher, a member of Frenchton United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Aletha Chapter 82, of Rock Cave. She loved her family and grandchildren, and she enjoyed reading, working in her flower gardens and writing poetry.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. The Order of the Eastern Star, Aletha Chapter 82, will conduct services today at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Frenchton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Albert J. Harper

Albert Jacob Harper, 99, of Dryfork, passed away March 21, 2008, in Lake East Hospital in Painesville, Ohio.

He was born Nov. 15, 1908, at Harman, a son of the late Minor and Clara Cooper Harper.

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Gladys G. Smith Harper; two sons, Harold (Carol) Harper of Copley, Ohio, and David (Nancy) Harper of Silver Spring, Md.; three daughters, Collene (Victor) Eyth of Mentor, Ohio, Rosalie (George) Barber of San Clemente, Calif., and Phyllis (Don) Nelson of Accokeek, Md., two sisters, Nela C. Carter of Medina, Ohio, and Sally Head of Akron, Ohio; grandchildren, Daliene, Keith and Sharon Curtis, David and Susan Eyth, Julie Nelson Steele, Clara Nelson Fitzgerald, Charles Harper, Laura Harper Atherton and Stacia and Christopher Harper;14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dr. Dale A. Curtis; three brothers, Fred, Stelman and Harry; and four sisters, Erma, Zetta, Evelyn and Virginia.

Mr. Harper was a lifelong farmer and carpenter. He was a charter member of the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church and a member of Randolph County Farm Bureau.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Dry Fork Assembly of God Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at the church with the Rev. Ric Lewellen officiating. Interment will follow in Jacob C. Harper Cemetery at Harman. Barry D. McCauley

Barry Douglas McCauley, 61, a resident of Elkins, departed this life early Friday morning, March 21, 2007, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.

Betty L. Young

Betty Lou Butcher White Young, 72, a resident of Route 2, Elkins, departed this life late Thursday evening, March 20, 2008, in Talbott Personal Care Home at Belington. She had been in declining health for the past two years.

Charles W. Allman

Charles W. Allman of Kettering, Ohio, who would have been 80 on his next birthday, passed away peacefully in Wright Patterson Air Force Base Hospital on Thursday, March 20, 2008, after a determined battle against sarcoma cancer.

He was born Sept. 28, 1928, at Arlington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Fitzgerald Allman; his parents, Clark Allman and Tressie Samples Allman. Also deceased are two brothers, Robert and John Allman; and one sister, Caryl Jean Hissam.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna Allman Phipps and husband, Richard of South Charleston and Diane Allman Callahan and husband, Stephen, of Texas; grandsons, Sean Callahan and wife, Gabriela, of Texas, and their sons, Liam and Lucas, and Kevin Callahan and wife, Lauren of Texas; brothers, David and Helen Allman, Okey and Helen Allman and Dale and Charlotte Allman; sister, Dottie and Gail Bosley; sisters-in-law, Jean Allman and Carol Allman; and brother-in-law, Arden Hissam.

Charles joined the Army Air Corps in 1947 and retired from the Air Force after a distinguished 20-year career. He then worked 25 years with NCR Corp., retiring in 1992. His third career was spent enjoying golf and traveling with family and friends, including frequent trips to the family home in West Virginia. Charles was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Friend and family called at Tobias Funeral Home-Far Hill Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Road Saturday. There will also be a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, 95 S. Kanawha St., Buckhannon. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Elizabeth Feola

Elizabeth “Betty” Feola, 87, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, in Dean’s Personal Care Home.

She was born Sept. 1, 1920, at Weston, a daughter of the late Emerson and Mary O’Sullivan Farnsworth.

On July 29, 1940, she married Samuel Feola Jr., who preceded her in death on July 24, 1996.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Ryan Windon Feola; one great-grandson, Elijah David Feola; and one brother, Dr. Daniel Farnsworth.

She is survived by two sons, David J. Feola Sr. and wife, Natalie, of Buckhannon and Samuel D. Feola and wife, Patt, of Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Jayne Cutright and husband, Ron, of Morgantown; four grandsons, David James Feola Jr. of Lexington, Ky., Tyler Windon Feola of Atlanta, Ga., Jared Samuel Feola of Eugene, Ore., and Joshua Ryan Cutright of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three granddaughters, Kristen Elizabeth Cutright Bogroff of Morgantown, Melissa Marie Feola of Los Angeles, Calif,. and Sara Kathryn Feola of Denver; three great-grandsons, Michael Joshua Bogroff of Morgantown, Samuel David Feola of Lexington and Aneillo Michael Feola of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Mary Jo Bailey of Minneapolis, Minn.; and her loyal dog and companion, Cheers.

Mrs. Feola was a homemaker and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Gilbert Nelson Knicley, 90, a well-known businessman of Tucker County and a resident of Texas Mountain, St. George, departed this life Wednesday, March 19, 2008.

Lyelle A. Helmick

Lyelle Allen “Lefty” Helmick, 65, of Deanville community, Buckhannon, passed away Friday, March 21, 2009, at his home.

He was born May 14, 1942, at Hinkleville, a son of the late John Carl and Regina Nellie Raikes Helmick.

Also preceding him in death were three brothers, James, Jack and John Helmick.

Surviving are his wife, Genevieve V. Simmons Helmick, who he married Dec. 24, 1964; two daughters, Regenia Mae Johnson and companion, Micheal Hinchman, of Frenchton and Beth Ann Carson and husband, Todd, of Hinkleville; three grandchildren, Harley Marie Johnson, James Brian Carson and Matthew Ward Carson; five brothers, the Rev. Eugene Helmick, Bob Helmick and wife, Patty, Kyle Helmick and wife, Ruby, all of Buckhannon, Larry Helmick of Ohio and Steve Helmick and wife, Debbie, of Buckhannon; two sisters, Mona Helmick and husband, Jim, and Peggy Ball, both of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Michelle Cutright.

Mr. Helmick was a dozer operator for Union Drilling Inc. and Sam Jack Drilling Inc., a Christian by faith and had served two years at Fort Campbell, Ky., with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and dirt track racing.

Lynn R. Blank

Lynn Robert Blank departed this life Thursday morning, March 20, 2008, in a tragic auto accident. A resident of Buckhannon, Lynn was born in Lima, Ohio, on June 10, 1950, where his mother, Betty Jane Blank, still resides.

He is preceded in death by his father, David R Blank, as well as an infant son, Aaron.

Lynn will be greatly missed by his wife of 25 years, Carla Jayne Blank, and his family including “daddy’s little girl,” Jayne Ashley Blank; his stepson and best friend, Nicholas Millett; daughter-in-law Jodee; and granddaughters, Emma and Gabby, all residents of Buckhannon. Survivors also include a daughter, Jennifer Hovancik; granddaughters, Katelynn and Madison of Pittsburgh; and sons, Nicholas Blank and Bobby Blank of West Branch, Iowa. Lynn also is survived by one brother, Richard Blank of Kansas City and his wife, Kathy; as well as nieces and nephews and many other extended family members who loved him deeply.

Lynn was a member of Central Christian Church in Lima, Ohio. He attended Ohio State University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force at Tyndall Air Force Base, in Panama City, Fla. His working career of 30 years was spent serving American veterans in the Department of Veterans Affairs, V.A. Medical Centers. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and an ardent patriot. Lynn’s friends and family will cherish the memory of his wonderful sense of humor and the gift of laughter he gave us all.

Visitation will be at Heavner and Cutright Funeral Home in Buckhannon today from 5 p.m. to 9 pm. Margaret Hinchman

Margaret Marie Gardner Hinchman, 91, a former resident of Gateway Apartments, Elkins and more recently a resident of Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, departed this life Saturday morning, March 22, 2008, in the nursing home. She had been in declining health.

She was born Monday, Dec. 18, 1916, at Elkins, a daughter of the late William Gardner and Essie Mae Gardner.

On Feb, 2, 1932, she was married to Oney Stark Hinchman, who preceded her in death.

Surviving her are four sons, Donald Lee Hinchman and wife, Betty, of Beverly, Robert Lynn Hinchman and wife, Betty, of Elkins, Richard Ray Hinchman and wife, Nellie, of Ohio, and Jack Wayne Hinchman of Elkins; four daughters, Dortha Mae Summerfield and husband, Clettus, of Beverly, Shirley Jean Woodell and husband, Fred, of Bowden, Betty Ruth Austin and husband, Donnie, of Virginia, Deborah Darlene Harris and husband, Kenneth, of Elkins; and 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two sons, William Joseph and Ernest Oney “Bud” Hinchman; three brothers, Warren, Gene and Eddie Gardner; one sister, Kathleen Miller; and two grandchildren.

She attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker, and was Baptist by faith. She loved to sew, read and was a noted cook.

Mildred “Midge” Ross, 79, of Plant City, Fla., formerly of Montrose, died March 20, 2008.

Midge was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. “Jay” Ross.

She is survived by her son, Stephen J. Ross and his wife, Jo Ann, of Plant City, Fla.; her daughter, Cynthia S. Stroud and her husband, Jon, of Plant City, Fla.; grandchildren, Scott Rogers, Erica Schloss and her husband, Matthew, Robbie Stroud, Stephanie Ross, Kris Matthew and his wife, Katie, Kylee Purcell and her husband, Cal, and Austin Matthew. She also leaves a sister, Doris Barrett of Elkins; and a brother, Max Meyers of Charleston, S.C.

The family will receive visitors today at Wells Memorial Chapel in Plant City, Fla., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at Berea Baptist Church in Plant City on Tuesday, March 25, at 11 a.m. with interment immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetary, Plant City, Fla. William Richard Andrews, 69, a resident of the Fork Mountain Road community, Parsons, departed this life Saturday evening, March 1, 2008, in Tucker Community Care. Death was attributed to cardiac arrest.

Camella Y. McCord

Camella Young McCord, 56, of Vienna, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at her residence.

She was born at Weston, a daughter of the late Floyd Patton and Betty (John) Young.

Mrs. McCord graduated from Fairmont State College, and taught school for 20 years in Lewis, Upshur and Wood county schools. She served on the board of directors of The Parkersburg Day Nursery, attended Wayside United Methodist Church, and volunteered for the Wood County Public School System. She was the vice president of the Red Wing Connection. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, reading and was an avid Mountaineer fan.

She is survived by her husband, Steve McCord of Vienna; daughter, Katherine McCord of Mineral Wells,; son, Payton Young McCord of Morgantown; two sisters, Sally Young Waddell of Buckhannon and Suzanne Hyre and her husband, Richard ,of Myrtle Beach;a brother and sister-in-law, G.O and Marie Young of Overland Park, Kan.; and six nieces and nephews, Bo Waddell, Beth Waddell Lamb, Lex Hyre, Aaron Hyre, John Young II and Sarah Young.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Patton Young, who was one of the Marshall University Football Players killed in the plane crash on Nov. 14, 1970.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wayside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Richards officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.

Hazel I. Collins

Hazel Isabelle Lambert Collins, 76, a resident of Teaberry Hills, Elkins, departed this life Sunday evening, March 23, 2008, at her home. She had been in declining health.

She was born Friday, June 9, 1932, at Valley Bend, a daughter of the late Wesley Lambert and Bessie Fox Lambert.

On Aug. 14, 1948, in Randolph County, she was married to Richard Elza Collins, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Steven Richard Collins and wife, Joy, of Belington, Ronnie Harold Collins and wife, Cathy, of Beverly and Mikel Harvey Collins and wife, Nancy, of Elkins; three daughters, Lana Isabell Collins Phillips of Elkins, Linda Darlene Collins Feaster and husband, Stephen, of Huntington and Sandra Darnell Collins Schoonover and husband, Homer, of Elkins; 16 grandchildren, Jeanette, Jimmie, Ronnie, Stephen, Stephenie, Nichole, Mikel, Tommy, Brock, Sunny, Tonya, Jessica, Ashley, Joshua and twins Richard and Patricia; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death were four brothers, Alfred Barlow, Dalphine Lambert, Earl Lambert and Elza Lambert; three sisters, Opal Lambert Collins, Pansy Lambert Lloyd and Phala “Faye” Lambert Trimboli; and three grandchildren, David, Richard and Benjamin Collins.

She attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker, loved flowers and taking care of her children. She was a Methodist by faith.

Helen I. Nethken

Helen I. Nethken, 85, of Buckhannon, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at her home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.

She was born May 12, 1922, in Ellamore, a daughter of the late Clinton Clark and Rhoda Friel Shreve.

On July 31, 1938, she married Ralph D. Nethken Sr., who died June 30, 2006.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Gola Lamb, Pearl Shaver, Martha Goodwin and Annie Britton; two brothers, Frank and Clinton Shreve; one granddaughter, Beth Ann Nethken; and one grandson, Ralph Casto.

She is survived by three sons, Ralph David Nethken Jr. and wife, Karen, of Beverly, Kenna Clark Nethken and Cheryl of Seaford, Del., and Bobby Donald Nethken of Grafton; six daughters, Betty Jane Nethken of Buckhannon, Lou Ella Teter and husband, Bill, of Buckhannon, Judy Ann Simmons and husband, Ray, of Charlotte, N.C., Jean Rohr and husband, Martin, of Buckhannon, Connie McLaughlin and husband, Terry, of Littleton, Colo., and Donna Currence and husband, Rick, of Ellamore; several nieces and nephews; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nethken was a homemaker. She attended Mt. Lebanon and was a member of Gertrude Chapel at Ellamore. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Friends will be received Saturday, March 29, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry M. Tenney

Larry Michael Tenney, 65, of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.

He was born Aug. 27, 1942, in Randolph County, a son of Mamie L. Smith Tenney of Buckhannon and the late Ura O. Tenney.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Barbara Lipscomb and husband, Mac, of Reedsville; one brother, Gary Tenney and wife, Alice, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a nephew, Ryan Lipscomb of Reedsville; and several aunts and uncles.

Mr. Tenney was retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years of service, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a Methodist by faith, a member of the Buckhannon VFW Post 3663 and the Liberty Club.

Friends will be received Thursday, March 27, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. He will lie in state from noon to 1 p.m., the funeral hour, on Friday at the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church with the Rev. William C. Eskew Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery at Hemlock. Marie Murphy

Marie Murphy, 84, of Ambridge, Pa., died Friday, March 21, 2008, in Ambridge, Pa.

She was born April 17, 1923, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Hoy Wilfong and Wilda Gillum Wilfong.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel A. Murphy.

Surviving are three daughters, Dotty Mixter and husband, Dale, of Ambridge, Pa., Sharon Jones of Aliquippa, Pa., and Sheila Drevna and husband, Dennis, of Chippewa, Pa.; six sisters, Madeline Barrett and husband, James, of Mauk, Ga., Loverna Campbell and husband, Benny, of Stonewood, Annetta Powers and husband, Jake, of Chidester, Ark., Josephine Smith of French Creek, Jean Corbin of West Virginia and Linda Wilfong of Chidester, Ark.; two brothers, Charles Wilfong of Rock Cave and Hoy Wilfong Jr. of French Creek; a sister-in-law, Valeria Wilfong of New Brighton, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Andy Chance of Troy, Ala.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and many other loving family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Murphy; one brother, James Wilfong; three sisters, Arnetta Chance, Maxine Wilfong and Irene Wilfong; son-in-law, Eugene Jones; and one granddaughter, Laura Jones.

Ruth L. Ward

Ruth L. Ward, 83, a resident of Route 1, Box 39, Volga, passed away Monday, March 24, 2008, at 8:50 p.m. at the United Hospital Center after an extended illness.

She was born April 19, 1924, in Upshur County, the daughter of the late Mack Crawford and Lora Smallridge Crawford.

She was united in marriage to Charles E. Ward, who preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1978.

Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Wolfe and husband, Stanley, of Philippi; one son, Charles E. Ward Jr. and wife, Mary, of Volga; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Wolfe, Lora Freeman and husband, Ray, Christa Wolfe and Stanley B. Wolfe.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Paul, Fay, Charles, Mike, Harry, Brooks and Ralph Crawford.

Mrs. Ward was a homemaker and a farmer. She was a past 4-H leader, member of the 4-H All-Stars and past member of Volga Rural Women’s Club. She was a member of the Mt. Calvery United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday, March 27, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Vera M. Schneider

Vera M. Schneider, 85, a resident of Pickens, passed away at 7:52 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 6, 1922, at Pickens, a daughter of the late Mark and Pocona Palvas Sneberger.

She was twice married; first in 1938, she married Fenton Johnson, who preceded her in death in 1940. She later married Max Paul Schneider, who also preceded her in death in 1985.

Surviving are two brothers, John E. Sneberger and wife, Marian, of Helvetia and Anton Sneberger and wife, Lena, of Czar; one sister, Rosie Sneberger Ketterman and husband, Cody, of Pickens; several nieces and nephews including Glelma and Louise Helmick of Louisville, Michael Helmick of Morgantown, John J. Sneberger of Cabins, Diane Dulaney of Czar, Christine Howell of Beverly, Everett Waggoner and David Varner of Ohio, Dorothy Lynch of Creston, Charlotte Hull and Billy Winemiller of Helvetia, George Winemiller and Sue Hamilton of Buckhannon and Kathy Harris of Elkins; and her “special young man,” John Harris of Orlando, Fla.

Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Beatrice Johnson; a brother, Mark Sneberger; a half-brother, Joseph Marinic; four sisters, Mary Sneberger Waggoner Varner, Olga Angela Sneberger Bennett Ball, Helen Rosie Sneberger and Katie Sneberger Winemiller; and a nephew, Mark Sneberger.

Mrs. Schneider was an active member of the Pickens community participating in many community activities. She was one of the organizers of the Maple Syrup Festival, a member of the American Legion Post 122 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Pickens.

A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m Friday, March 28, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Pickens with the Rev. Father Ron Nikodem as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Pickens Catholic Cemetery. Donald K. Carver

Donald Keith “Don” Carver, 70, of 497 Hodges Drive, NW, Orangeburg, S.C. 29118, went to his heavenly home March 24, 2008, in Providence Heart Institute of Columbia, S.C.

Mr. Carver was born Jan. 22, 1938, at Elkins, the son of Lilly Kathryn Moran Carver, 95, of Elkins and the late Leslie Ray Carver.

He and Mary Frances Heck Carver had a beautiful loving marriage for almost 49 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Heck Carver of Orangeburg, S.C.; one son, Christian A. (Suzy) Carver Sr. of Lexington, S.C.; and one daughter, Crystal Carver (Jay) Robinson of St. Matthews, S.C. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Christian A. Carver Jr. and Travis Glenn Carver of Lexington, S.C., and Lawton Johnson Robinson and Rachel Victoria Robinson of St. Matthews, S.C.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William R. (Hope) Carver of Elkins; one sister, Martha Lena (Frank) Magoc of Tarentum, Pa.; and one brother and sister, who died in infancy.

Carver and his wife, Mary Frances, both graduated from Elkins High School in 1956 and maintained close ties and strong loyalty with their classmates and to Elkins High School and the community. He was a basketball, football and track letterman at Elkins High School playing for Coaches Frank Wymer, Bob Irwin and Richard Simmons. Carver once scored 48 points in a basketball game versus Buckhannon-Upshur High School — a record that still stands today. He was inducted into the Randolph County West Virginia Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992.

Carver was a 1961 graduate of Clemson University where he lettered three years in basketball and track. He was also a member of Southern Textile Basketball Tournament Hall of Fame. Upon graduation from Clemson, he served as head basketball coach at Daniel High School where he coached NBA Hall of Famer “Pistol” Pete Maravich. He served as human resource manager at Applied Engineering in Orangeburg, S.C. for more than 20 years and became part-owner during his tenure. He later served as the human resource manager at Okonite Co. in Orangeburg, S.C., from its inception until his retirement in 2000. Carver was co-founder, president and lifetime honorary member of Midlands Society for Human Resource Management.

He was a long term member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Orangeburg, S.C., and also attended Cornerstone Community Church in Orangeburg, S.C.

Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home in Orangeburg, S.C. Reba H. Bise

Mrs. Reba Harriet Fisher Bise, 75, a resident of 100 Tallman Ave. Elkins and more recently a resident of Barbour County Good Samaritan Center in Belington, departed this life early Tuesday morning, March 25, 2008, in the care facility.

She born June 6, 1932, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Greydon Fisher and Hazel Reams Fisher, who survives at Elkins.

On Dec. 25 1969, she was married to Joseph W. Bise, who preceded he in death on March 4, 1998.

Daughters surviving include Kathy Osborn and husband, Peter, of De Moines, Wash., and Vickie Scott and husband, Dan, of Route 2, Philippi; two grandchildren, Nickie and Adam Scott; and three great- grandchildren, Brycen and Grayson Newman and Tobias Cooper.

Also surviving are four sisters, Ellen Swartz, Elsie Shoemaker, Evelyn White, Janet Isner, five brothers Robert, William, David, Harold and Michael Fisher.

Mrs. Bise was a legal secretary for the law firm Higginbotham and Grazianna and in her earlier years served in the U.S. Air Force. She was very active in the Alumni Association of Elkins High School, was a member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and was a Protestant by faith.

At the request of the deceased, her remains will be cremated. However, friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday March 29, and at 3 p.m. there will be a memorial service conducted from the funeral home chapel with Lois Kessler officiating. Athol D. Bennett

Athol Duane Bennett, 80, of Pamplin, Va., died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was born Sept. 18, 1927, at Boulder, a son of the late Herbert and Virginia (Teets) Bennett.

Mr. Bennett was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired farmer. He loved auctions, antique collecting, woodworking and restoring old furniture. In 1966, he was named Farmer of the Year in West Virginia by the Farmers Home Administration.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Juanita June Warner, and is survived by his second wife, Benita Hancock Bennett.

Also surviving are one daughter, Suncia “Sunny” Meadows of Appomattox, Va.; a son, Stephen Bennett and wife, Robbin, of Pamplin, Va.; four stepchildren, Mary M. and Michael Grove of Lynchburg, Va., Douglas and Sue Ann Hancock, Appomattox, Va., Margaret “Maggie” Hancock of Pamplin, Va., and James and Luann Hancock of Pamplin, Va.; sisters and brothers, Faye M. Skidmore of Buckhannon, H. Paul Bennett of Boulder, M. Beatrice Propst and husband, Everett, and Billy R. Bennett and wife, Vera, all of Buckhannon; three grandchildren, Angela Winans-Beasley, Delbert C. Meadows and Cody D. Bennett; five stepgrandchildren, James “Jay” Mann, Marshall Hancock, Christopher Hancock, Curtis Hancock and Cory Hancock; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Betty J. Johnson

Mrs. Betty J. Johnston, 82, a resident of Layman Avenue, Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2008, in United Hospital Center at Clarksburg.

She was born Jan. 29, 1926, at Fort Pierce, Fla., the daughter of the late Hugh and Nellie Hudkins Arnett.

Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her husband, Kester C. Johnston on February 1, 1991, whom she married on August 12, 1946.

Mrs. Johnston is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law; Mrs. Larry (Carol) Swisher of Buckhannon and Mrs. Leman (Jane) Post of Bridgeport,; four grandchildren; Mrs. Scott (Elaine) Jenkins of Washington, James Alan Swisher of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kevin Leman Post of Morgantown and Ryan Douglas Post of Bridgeport; two great-grandchildren; Kayleigh Danielle Jenkins and Brenden Scott Jenkins of Washington; one sister; Mrs. Ruth Boyce of Royal Oak, Mich; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Wesley Arnett.

Betty was an active member of Bridgeport Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir and was the treasurer of the Day Circle for several years. She belonged to Rachel Chapter 47 Order of the Eastern Star in Bridgeport and later the Queen Esther Chapter 11 in Clarksburg. She was also a long time member of  Bridgeport Homemakers. She was a 1944 graduate of Bridgeport High School.

Friends will be received at Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main St., Bridgeport on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mrs. Johnston will lie in state in Bridgeport Baptist Church, 556 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport on Monday, March 31,  from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The funeral service will be celebrated in the church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Thomas Edgell presiding. Edgel W. Tallman

Edgel Wayne Tallman, 68, of Vermilion, Ohio, passed away March 22, 2008, in Community Health Partners in Lorain, Ohio, following a brief illness.

He was born June 2, 1939, at Buckhannon.

Edgel worked all his life as a dry waller, His interests included fishing, hunting, camping, mudding and the great outdoors. He enjoyed listening to Patsy Cline and Hank Williams. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Vermilion and a social member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7576 and belonged to the Dad’s.

Survivors include sons, Lester Tallman and Thor Tallman; daughters, Debbie Showalter and Tammy Bailey; stepdaughter, Billie Rowe; mother, Evona Tallman; brothers, Roger, Gary, Fred and Lynn Tallman; grandchildren, Leiloni Marciszewski, Heidi Taylor, Gina Griffin, Jennifer Kudlo, Jeremy Bailey and Justin Bailey; and great-grandchildren, Erin Bodkin, Katherine Taylor, Kaleb Marciszewski and Julia Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilson Tallman; brother, Wilson “Rusty” Tallman; and granddaughter, Sara Robb.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. , the time of service, on Wednesday, March 26,  at Wyers Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Road, Sheffield Township, Ohio. The Rev. Margaret Wolford

Margaret Ann Moore Wolford, 46, a resident of Elkins, went home to the Lord at 9:48 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 17, 1961, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Denzil Moore and Arlene Herron Moore, who survives in Elkins.

She was formerly married to Richard Wolford of Elkins.

Also surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Monroe and husband, Robert, of Elkins and Christina Wolford of Elkins; a grandson, Austin Monroe; maternal grandmother, Jettie Herron of Elkins; sisters, Teresa Cave and husband, Tom, and Tammy Hedrick and husband, Billy, all of Montrose and Pam Hammond and husband, Jim ,of Huttonsville; a brother, Arnold Moore of Montrose; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Margaret was employed as a homemaker aid until 2005. She enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Austin, and playing bingo.

S. Kathryn Warner

S. Kathryn Warner, 87, a resident of East Dailey, passed away Wednesday morning, March 26, 2008, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 1, 1920, at Circleville, a daughter of the late Jay and Eda Murphy Bennett.

On Nov. 20, 1938, at Circleville, she was married to Roy Warner, who preceded her in death on July 9, 1998.

She is survived by two sons, Tom Warner and wife, Rebecca, of Beverly and Jerry Warner of Mill Creek; one daughter, Wanda Morgan and husband, Gary, of East Dailey; and a special daughter-in-law, Evelyn Warner of Elkins. Fourteen grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren also survive.

Preceding her in death were three brothers, Elmer, Snively and Jimmy Jay Bennett; and two sisters, Mary and Annie Warner.

Mrs. Warner was a graduate of Circleville High School. She was a homemaker and a member of  Valley Bend Presbyterian Church.

Genevieve Saurborn

Genevieve Faye Crawford “Jenny” Saurborn, 95, a resident of the Glenmore community, Elkins, departed this life late Thursday evening, March 27, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1913, at Wildell, Pocahontas County, a daughter of the late Plummer B. Crawford and Flossie Phares Crawford.

During 1940 at Fairmont, she was married to Donald N. Saurborn who died during the Battle of the Bulge on March 1, 1945.

Surviving are one daughter, Dixie Lee Stover of Alexandria, Va.; one brother, Maurice C. Crawford Sr. and wife, Alma, of Kingsville; one sister-in-law, Deloris Crawford of Falls Church, Va.; one brother-in-law, Robert Ward of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Ivan Neal Crawford and Wilson Bryan Crawford; and three sisters, Laura Joanne Ward, Bonna Lea Crawford and Unita Mae Armstrong.

She attended Tygarts Valley High School and was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center and the Mill Creek Presbyterian Church. She spent many years as an employee of the Owens Illinois Glass Co. in New Jersey and later at Fairmont where she met her husband. She later worked for the Reserve Life Insurance Co. and retired as the produce manager at the Garden Fresh Market at Elkins. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers and cats.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Sunday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jo Ann Canfield

Jo Ann Canfield, 71, of Warren, Ohio, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Horizon Village Nursing Center in Warren, Ohio.

She was born March 15, 1937, in Elkins, the daughter of the late John Roy and Geraldine (Smith) Roy.

Mrs. Canfield worked as a registered nurse for 40 years, retiring from Imperial Skilled Nursing Home in 1985.

She is survived by her husband, Leslie S. Canfield, whom she married on March 5, 1959; her mother, Gearldine Roy of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sons, Robert L. Canfield of Norfolk, Va., and John G. Canfield of Newton Falls; four daughters, Barbara A. Smith of Kinsman, Emma M. Richards of Front Royal, Va., Bernadine F. Canfield of Warren and Brenda S. Gary of Warren; one brother, Bud Roy of Chesapeake, Va.; and two sisters, Jeanie Roy of Fayetteville, N.C., and Pat Jolly of Harker Heights, Texas. Also surviving are six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, 164 N. High St., where the family received friends on Wednesday and Thursday. The funeral service took place Thursday and interment was at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, Ohio.   From 29 Mar 2008.

Margaret Ann Moore Wolford, 46, a resident of Elkins, went home to the Lord at 9:48 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

Friends called Friday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. S. Kathryn Warner

S. Kathryn Warner, 87, a resident of East Dailey, passed away Wednesday morning, March 26, 2008, at her residence.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 30, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
