Gloria A. Kemper

Gloria A. Kemper, 66, of Buckhannon, died Friday, March 7, 2008, in Crestview Manor nursing home in Jane Lew.

She was born July 6, 1941, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Clarence and Edna Mae Radcliff Lester.

She is survived by her husband, Willis Kemper

She is also survived by one son, Randall and wife, Cheryl Turner of Fairmont; one stepson, Eric Kemper of Lewisburg; one stepdaughter, Leighann and husband, Don Belin, of North Carolina; one granddaughter, Casey Turner; one grandson, Drew Turner, both of Bridgeport; stepgrandchildren, Beau, McKinzi and Cassidi Robinson, Nychele, Brie-anne and Rebekah Kemper and Matt, Mason and Mitchell Mullen; one brother, Shirley and wife, Louise Lester, of Weston; and one sister, Carolyn and husband, Joseph Gum, of Jane Lew. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; a former daughter-in-law, Jackie Turner of Bridgeport; and special friends, Brenda Currence and Sue Davidson.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Sharpe, Sylvia Lester and Dolores Wilson; and one brother, Harold Lester.

Gloria was a Methodist by faith and was employed as a food service worker for many years. She was last employed at the Old Mill Restaurant in Buckhannon.

Friends will be received from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. Lorene Hardman

Lorene Mae Rush Haney Hardman, 79, a resident of Huttonsville, departed this life late Friday evening, March 7, 2008, at her home.

She was born Tuesday, Jan. 1, 1929, at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Jesse James Rush Sr. and Grace Margarette Taylor Rush.

On May 15, 1947, she was married to Carl E. Haney, who preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1978.

Surviving her are four sons, John W. Haney and wife, Joyce, of East Dailey, Mitchell L. Haney and wife, Patty, of Stalnaker Run, Gregory A. Haney of Huttonsville and Donald R. Haney and wife, Cindy, of Elkins; two daughters, Twila M. Conrad of Huttonsville and Deborah K. Chandler of East Dailey; two brothers, Ronald Rush of Mill Creek and Robert Rush of Michigan; one sister, Janet Dumire of Elkins; two half brothers, Kenney Rush and Randall Rush; three half sisters, Libby Rush, Sue Ford and Joyce Ramsey; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were one son, Darrell D. Haney; two brothers, Jesse J. Rush Jr. and Harrison Rush; and one sister, Georgia Rush Haney.

Lorene attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker and a loving mother for more than 60 years.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, March 12, Mrs. Hardman will be moved to Refuge Church at Stalnaker Run where friends may call from noon to 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Paul R. Campbell

Paul R. Campbell, 77, of Franklin, Tenn, and formerly of St. Albans, died March 6, 2008.

He was born in 1930 at Elkins.

He was an alumni of Elkins High School and graduate of Davis & Elkins College. He was formerly employed by Avtex Fiber (American Viscose: and an environmental engineer for Prince William County, Manassas, Va.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Campbell; brothers, Sherman and Bruce Campbell; and sister, Flora Quarry.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Campbell of Franklin, Tenn.; brother George Campbell of Sunset, Texas; sons, Douglas Campbell of Franklin, Tenn., and Richard Campbell and wife, Connie, of St. Albans; daughters, Debbie Heiman and husband, Arthur, of Brentwood, Tenn., Diana Hamm and husband, Karl, of Brentwood, Tenn., and Donna Cox and husband, Bobby, of Charlottesville, Va.; and 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Ruth M. Hamrick

Ruth Moore Hamrick, 94, a former resident of Petersburg, and a resident of Little Rock, Ark. for the past 21 years, departed this life Saturday, March 8, 2008, in Parkway Health Center at Little Rock, Ark.

She was born Sunday, July 20, 1913, at Elkwater, a daughter of the late Everett Burns Moore and Sarah Helen Daft Moore.

On March 7, 1936, at Elkins, she was married to D.D. Hamrick, who preceded her in death June 11, 1995.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were two sisters, Kathleen and Isabelle; one brother, Frank; and four half brothers, Fred, Paul, Ted and Gerald Moore.

She attended the schools of Randolph County. Mrs. Hamrick, along with her husband, owned and operated Hamrick Oil Co. at Petersburg for 25 years. She was a former member of Petersburg Presbyterian Church, was a member of Petersburg Chapter 46, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Parkway Presbyterian Church at Little Rock, Ark.

Scott C. Smith

Scott Christopher Smith, 36, of Davis, formerly of Glace, died Friday night, March 7, 2008, in an automobile accident near Davis.

Scott was born June 3, 1971 in Fairfax, VA, a son of Robert Neal Smith and Marsha Lynn Bostic Davy.

He was of the Protestant faith, and a valedictorian graduate of Union High School Class of 1989. He was a head steward at Canaan Valley Resort.

Preceding him in death was his great grandmother who raised him; Gertrude Webb.

Survivors include his mother, Marsha Davy and his stepfather, Bill Davy of Union; one brother, Holland Davy of Union; one sister, Crystal Davy of Union; his maternal grandfather, Alvin Bostic of White Sulphur Springs; uncles and aunts, Karen and Charles Coby of Moorefield, Claude and Kati Young of Burlington, Ricky and Ann Bostic of Alderson, Barry Bostic of Smoot, Curtis Webb of White Sulphur Springs, Shorty and Snookie Gwinn of Christiansburg, Va., Timothy and Anna Mae Bostic of Radford, Va., Elissa Bostic of White Sulphur Springs and Tammy and Richard Lewis of Droop Mountain. Also surviving are a lifelong companion, James Ogle of Davis; and a large extended family of cousins.

William Aegan Sr.

William Roland Aegan Sr., 74, of Rock Cave, died Friday, March 7, 2008, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.

He was born Dec. 18, 1933, at Rock Cave, a son of the late Dana C. and Mabel Fitzgerald Aegan.

On Sept. 29, 1962, he married Mary Jean Gay Mourey, who preceded him in death Aug. 7, 2004.

In addition to his parent sand wife, he was preceded in death by one son, David Aegan; and one brother, Joe Aegan.

He is survived by four sons, William R. Aegan Jr. and wife, Beth, of Buckhannon, Thomas Aegan of Gilbert, Ariz., Richard Aegan and wife, Rebecca, of Vichy, Mo., and Dana Charles Aegan and wife, Kristina, of Buckhannon; four daughters, Victoria Shroyer and husband, Rocky, of Moravian Falls, N.C., Robin Lantz and husband, Robert, of Bridgeport, Genevia Phillips of Buckhannon and Nancy Belle Heater and husband, Wesley, of Buckhannon; 12 grandsons, Rocky Todd Shroyer, Derrick Aegan, Rodney Shroyer, Justin Lantz, Christian Heater, William Thomas Aegan, Anthony Duke Phillips, Wyatt Aegan, Aaron Aegan, Hank Phillips, Jacob Aegan and Jack William Heater; three granddaughters, Faith Victoria Aegan, Lilly Jean Heater and Hailey Nicole Aegan; one great-grandson, Isaac Gage Shroyer; two sisters, Betty Lou Bastain of Maryland, and Mabel Sue Silvers of Oregon; and three brothers, Harry Aegan and Richard Aegan, both of Pennsylvania, and Robert Aegan of Georgia.

Mr. Aegan was a bridge builder for Orders Construction. He was a member of Wayside Baptist Church and United Steel Workers Local 14614. He served in the U.S. Army Special Police Forces white stationed in Germany.

Belva P. Pritt

Belva Pearl Pritt, 83, of Ireland, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2008, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.

She was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Upshur County, the daughter of the late George Thurman and Daisy Leo Boggs Pritt.

She was preceded in death by her companion, Joe Knight.

She is survived by a son, Jack Pritt and wife, Nellie, of Ireland; a granddaughter, Laura Wine of Elkins; a great-granddaughter, Felicia Smith of Elkins; and a sister, Ruth Bender of Walkersville.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Perry Francis, Charlie, Dayton and Claud; and five sisters, Ive Riley, Vernie Pritt, Delphia Westfall, Audra Riley and Eveline McCartney.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting and her flower gardens.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Alkire Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel. The rev. Christopher Denver Smith, son of Jeffrey and Gina White Smith of Mill Creek, passed away at birth on Friday, March 7, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

Robert A. Lindner

Robert Alfred Lindner, 83, a resident of Whiteman Avenue, Elkins, departed this life early Sunday morning, March 9, 2008, in United Hospital Center at Clarksburg.

He was born Thursday, Dec. 18, 1924, at Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late Charles Paul Lindner and Martha Moyer Lindner.

On July 3, 1947, in Pennsylvania, he was married to Mary Lois Halstead, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Eric Robert “Rick” Lindner and wife, JoAnne, of Pennsylvania, and Rodney Francis Lindner and wife, Pamela, of Colorado; three grandchildren, Clint Eric Lindner and wife, Christina, of Beaver Falls, Pa., Tobias E. Lindner of Germany, and Catherine Lindner of Spain; and four great-grandchildren. Leah, Casey Jo, William and Klara.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death were one son, Paul Efner Lindner; one daughter, Cheryl Lee Lindner; one brother, William Lindner; and one sister, Lois Smith.

He was a graduate of Freedom High School at Pennsylvania with the class of 1941, was a veteran of the U.S, Army Air Corp during World War II and was a mechanical mill wright for the Saint Joseph Lead Co. at PA. He had worked for the P & LE Railroad as an engineer and retired from Union Carbide Co. at Anmoore as a mechanical mill wright during 1987. He was an avid reader of civil war and railroad history.

Thelma M. Brown

Thelma Marie Davis Brown, 87, formerly of Deerfield Addition, Weston, died March 7, 2008, in Crestview Manor, Jane Lew, following a brief illness.

She was born June 5, 1920, at Vadis, a daughter of the late Denley J. Davis and Bessie Opal West Davis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence Edwin Brown on Oct. 14, 1996; son, Paul E. Brown; brother, James M. Davis; sister, Freda M. Davisson; and an infant twin brother and sister, Leonard and Lillian Davis.

She is survived by two daughters, Catherine Riley-Griffin of Weston and Elizabeth A. “Libby” Ferrell of Weston; one daughter-in-law, Juanita Davis of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren, Lisa M. Krosen and husband, Bryan, of Lyndhurst, Ohio, the Rev. Father Mark R. Riley of the Diocese of Cleveland Missionary in El Salvador, Shawn Alan Ferrell and wife, Carla, of Charlotte, N.C. Joshua A. Ferrell and fiance, Heather Epstein, of Weston and Scott Brown and wife, Melissa, of Frontenac, Kan.; six great-grandchildren, David and Emily Krosen of Lyndhurst, Ohio, Shane Alan Ferrell of Charlotte, N.C., and Keegan, Quinn and Caden Brown of Frontenac, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

Thelma was a full-time loving wife and mother. She was a devout Cathloic and long-standing member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Her love for music was evident with performances on WMMN radio station in Fairmont with the Prairie Schooners and the Wheeling Jamboree. Most would recognize her by her stage name, Patsy Davis. Mrs. Brown took great pride in her gardening abilities, her flower beds and her photography. Throughout her life she enjoyed reading and reciting poetry with others.

Friends called Monday at Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston. Mass of Christina Burial will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Jeremiah McSweeney and the Rev. Father Mark R. Riley as co-celebrants. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens at Weston. Elda V. Ball

Elda Virginia Shahan Ball, 89, a former resident of St. George, and more recently a resident of Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Oakland, Md., departed this life Monday evening, March 10, 2008, in Garrett County Memorial Hospital at Oakland, Md.

She was born Sunday, June 2, 1918, at Parsons, a daughter of the late Datis A. Shahan and Martha M. Davis Shahan.

On Sept. 24, 1938, at Parsons, she was married to Wilbert B. Ball, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, John J. Ball of Frostburg, Md.; one brother, Luther Shahan of Fellowsville; two grandchildren, Kandy Crockett and Roudy J. Ball; and three great-grandchildren, Kari, Tristin and Michelle.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Lester and Junior Shahan.

She attended the one-room school at Bull Run. She was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Macedonia Methodist Church. She loved flowers.

Evelyn L. Parsons

Evelyn L. Parsons departed this life Saturday, March 8, 2008, while a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home.

She was born at Brisbin, Pa., the daughter of the late Thomas V. Lobb and Urania Walker Lobb.

She is survived by her daughters-in-law, Ruth Parsons of Ruckersville, Va., and JoEllen Parsons of Elkins; her grandsons and their families, Monte and Margaret Parsons, Shane, Misty, Henry and Benjamin, all of Charlottesville, Va., and John, Amy and Grace Parsons and Jay, Lorraine, Jared and Justin Parsons, all of Elkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Parsons; two sons, James F. Parsons and John Donald Parsons; one brother, Edward Lobb; and two sisters, Eleanor Erickson and Lois Sanders. She was also preceded in death by one infant sister, Helen Lobb; and one infant brother, Howard Lobb.

Evelyn was a longtime resident of Elkins, having worked in the family accounting business for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Elkins for 63 years after joining Feb. 28, 1945.

Christopher B. Mace, 38, a resident of Elkins and a former resident of Spencer, passed away at his residence on March 9, 2008.

He was born June 6, 1969, at Spencer, a son of David Mace of Elkins and the late Mary Mace.

In addition to his father, Christopher is survived by his stepmother, Charlene Mace of Elkins; one brother, Kip Mace and wife, Lisa, of Hickory, N.C.; and one sister, April Everhart and husband, Danny, of Hickory, N.C. Also surviving are one aunt, Betty Butcher of Charlotte, N.C.; one uncle, Denver Board of Charlotte, N.C.; one stepbrother, Robin Dolly and wife, Tammy, of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, Christopher was preceded in death by his grandparents, M.D. “Pete” and Monad Board and Dorsie and Goldie Mace.

Marjorie V. Mills, 80, of Lakeland, Fla., died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at her home, due to heart failure.

She was born Nov. 6, 1927, at Kitzmiller, Md., to George and Luela (Warner) Kinkaed and moved to Lakeland, Fla., in 1981 from Ohio.

She was a member of Family Worship Center in Lakeland, Fla.

On July 29, 1945, at Kitzmiller, Md., Marjorie was married to Claude Mills, who survives at Lakeland, Fla.

She is also survived by her son, Gary (Debbie) Mills of Maryville, Tenn.; daughters, Mary Mills of Highland City, Fla., Nancy Irvin of Lakeland, Fla., and Betty Erkkila of Perry, Ohio; and nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosie Marie Mills; a brother, Maurice Kinkaed; two sisters, Ruth Cappadona and Nellie Kinkaed; and a son-in-law, David Erkkila.

Mildred Joyce Smith Hannum, 81, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 24, 1926, at Pickens, the daughter of the late Fay and Samantha Hicks Smith.

On July 26, 1957, at Riveria Beach, Md., she was married to Kenneth E. Hannum, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Karen Coomes of Elkins; one sister, Catherin Bosworth of Elkins; one granddaughter, Melissa Miller; and 10 nieces and six nephews.

Preceding her in death were one son, William Clark; four brothers, Ed, Norman, Ray, Bobby Smith; and one sister, Virginia Antzcak.

Mrs. Hannum was a homemaker and loved children and gardening. She was a Protestant by faith.

Carl F. Phillips

Carl Franklin Phillips, 98, of Meadowville Community, Route 2, Montrose, died early Thursday morning, March 13, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins, following a two week illness.

He was born Feb. 9, 1910, at Meadowville, a son of the late Grover C. and Addie (Moore) Phillips.

On Dec. 2, 1933, he married the former Cathern Jones, who preceded him in death on July 15, 2003, following 69 Ω years of marriage.

Survivors include, two daughters, Mrs. William (Louella) Cross of Route 2, Philippi and Mrs. Richard (Linda Lou) Jones of Route 2, Belington; five grandchildren, Jeff (Janette) Cross of Philippi, Greg (Kristi) Cross of Montrose, Melissa (Shawn) Miller of Montrose, Justin Jones of Great Falls, Mont., and Karen (Michael) Daugherty of Buckhannon; and six great grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren and one great- great-grandson.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Kanouff ;and by one brother, Clyde Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a graduate of Belington High School with the class of 1930. He earned a Standard Normal Teaching Certificate from Alderson-Broaddus College and taught in one room schools in Barbour County for some nine years. He operated his beef cattle farm until he retired at age 95, on a farm which had been in the Phillips family for 276 years. It had been designated a Bicentennial Farm. He was a member of Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren for 70 years where he served as Sunday school superintendent and deacon. He had also served as president of Glade District Council of Churches. He was a member and president of the Farm A.S.C. and F.S.C Agency for 45 years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 17, from the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave., Belington. The Rev. Larry Poling will officiate and interment will follow in Central Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.. on Sunday and until 11 a.m., the funeral hour, on Monday. Dorothy Helen Rudolph “Dottie” Yoakum, 86, a former resident of Beverly and more recently of Valentine’s Personal Care Home, departed this life early Wednesday morning, March 12, 2008, in the nursing home.

She was born Thursday, Dec. 1, 1921, at Clarksville, Tenn., a daughter of the late Henry Lacy Rudolph and Annie B. Gumm Rudolph.

On Nov. 1, 1945, at Clarksville, Tenn., she was married to Leo Talbott Yoakum, who preceded her in death March 7, 1998.

Surviving are two brothers-in-law, Troy D. Yoakum and wife, Helen, and Chester C. Yoakum and wife, Lillie, all of Beverly; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert “Marie” Bierly of Chattanooga, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews; and two great-nieces: Mrs. Adam “Martha” Lock of Villa Grove, Colo., and Carol Smithson of Clarksville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Thomas Lacy Rudolph; and twin sisters, Norine Shoemaker and Elizabeth R. Walker.

She attended the Howell School and Clarksville High School at Tennessee and was a homemaker. She was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Clarksville, Tenn., and First Baptist Church at Elkins.

Edna George, 98, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, in Holbrook’s Nursing Home.

She was born July 18, 1909, at Tallmansville, a daughter of the late Peter and Dolly Eskew Tenney.

On March 29, 1929, she married Granville George, who preceded her in death July 16, 1964.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Bill George; one great-granddaughter, Crystal Smith; six brothers, Albert, Harold, David, Edgar, Dennis and John Tenney; three sisters, Mamie Wilfong, Emma Dawson and Pearl Kincaid; and one son-in-law, Hayward Smith.

She is survived by three daughters, Wilma Jean Smith of Fairmont, Betty Louise Reed and husband, Freeman, of Buckhannon and Vera Wilfong and husband, Frank, of Buckhannon; one daughter-in-law, Janet George of Charleston; one brother, Virgil Tenney of Maryland; and eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mrs. George was a homemaker and member of South Buckhannon Mission Church.

Hallie C. Kyle

Hallie Canfield Kyle, 98, a former resident of Elkins and more recently of Lewisburg, where she made her home with her daughter, Rita Thomas and son-in-law, Dr. Carl E. Thomas, departed this life early Wednesday morning, March 12, 2008, at her home.

She was born Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1909, on a farm east of Elkins, a daughter of the late Austin Emmett Canfield and Alice May Bright Canfield.

On Aug. 18, 1929, at Parsons, she was married to Oscar Ralph Kyle, who preceded her in death Feb. 22, 1986.

Surviving are one son, Lawrence Ralph Kyle of Elkins; one daughter, Rita Kyle Thomas and husband, Carl E., of Lewisburg; a very dear friend, Billie Belcher of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.

She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preeded in death by one brother, Floyd D. Canfield; and three sisters, Grace Whetsell, Mabel Isner and Aulta Burns.

Hallie graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1928, was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting bedspreads and tablecloths, embroidery, sewing, and, in later years, made a lot of beadwork items such as baskets, doll dresses and beaded angels. She also enjoyed collecting family history of several ancestral lines, which led to being elected historian for the Canfield family reunion and served in that capacity for 70 years. She was the author and publisher of the Canfield History in 1979, and she had started working on a second edition when eye difficulties interfered with its completion. She also loved to travel to different places, meet new people, good clean fun and thoroughly enjoyed life each day. Hallie was an active member of  Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church for many years, was a member of Poling Bible Class, historian for the church, helped prepare the Seventy-Five Year History of the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, which was printed in 1987, and was active in the Women’s Society, having served as president.

Betty J. Hudkins

Betty Jo Hudkins, 74, of Grafton, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at the United Hospital Center.

Betty was born Aug. 6, 1933, at Cabin Creek, a daughter of the late Frank Jacobs and Tressie Perry Jacobs Wilson.

Betty is survived by four children, daughter Debbie DePolo of Rosemont, son Mark Hudkins and wife, Ann, of Grafton, son Daniel Hudkins and wife, Linda, of Shinnston and daughter Kathy Timmins of Elkins; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Skidmore and husband, Ray, of Rosemont, Michael DePolo and fiance, Heidi, of Bridgeport, Travis Hudkins of Glenville, Bethany Hudkins of Shinnston, Chris Timmins of Clarksburg, Josh Timmins of Philippi, Hannah Hudkins of Richmond, Va., Mark Hudkins Jr. of Grafton, Chris Walden of Grafton and Ashley Walden of Clarksburg; four great-grandchildren, Cody, Austin, and Kamryn Skidmore of Rosemont and Noah Timmins of Clarksburg; two brothers, Williams Jacobs and wife, Shirley, of Galloway and Ray Jacobs and wife, Bobbi Jo, of Philippi; a sister, Francis Crow and husband, Wayne, of Bridgeport; and an aunt, Anna “Beauty” McCauley of Ohio. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and friends whom she held very dear to her heart.

Betty was formerly married to the late William “Bud” Hudkins, who preceded her in death.

Betty will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

C. Earl Wilmoth

Mr. C. Earl Wilmoth, 75, a resident of Werner Road near Belington, departed this life, Thursday, March 13, 2008, in his home following a six-month illness with cancer.

He was born April 22, 1932, at Belington, a son of the late Boyd D. and Bertha Stella Haack Wilmoth.

He was twice married. First on Nov. 14, 1954, to the former Joan Dilworth, who preceeded him in death July 4, 1982. Secondly, on Nov. 14, 1984, he was married to the former Hazel Hilleman, who survives at their home near Belington.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Rose Ann Wilmoth of Akron, Ohio; four stepchildren, Joyce Keen of Tallmadge, Ohio, Henry Hilleman Jr. and the Rev. Timothy Hilleman, both of Barberton, Ohio, and Janet McNeill of Stow, Ohio. Also surviving are three sisters, Betty Steffon of Fairview, Ohio, Norma Wilmoth of Lakewood, Ohio, and Irene Collins of Sterling, Va.; 11 stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Clarence Wilmoth, Raymond Wilmoth, Roy Wilmoth, Arley Wilmoth, Don Wilmoth and Robert Wilmoth.

Mr. Wilmoth attended the schools of Barbour County and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1949. Before moving to Ohio in the early 1960s, he worked in the timber industry with his brother Roy. While living in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, he was employed by Wilmoth Realty, where he worked as a carpenter. He was then a service manager at Buckeye Ford, and at the time of his retirement, he was employed by Larry Miller Concrete. Upon retirement, he moved back to West Virginia where he established his home once again. He was a Protestant by faith and was an avid hunter.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and Sunday until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mr. Earl Marion Flanagan, 69, a resident of Hetzel Avenue in Belington, departed life early Thursday morning, March 13, 2008, at the home of his sister, Lucille Spencer, following heart surgery.

He was born Feb. 23, 1939, at the Lantz community, a son of the late Clarence Lee and Rosie Hamilton Flanagan.

On Nov. 15, 1975, at Parsons, he was united in marriage to the former Betty Lucille Poling, who preceded him in death April 9, 2002.

Surviving are two daughters, Cathy Flanagan of Belington and Sue Skidmore and husband, Scott, of Belington; one stepdaughter, Nancy Curkendall and husband, Charlie, of Belington; one stepson, Phillip Poling and wife, Jennifer, of Belington. Siblings surviving include four sisters, Lucille Spencer of Junior, Louise Esposito of Belington, Betty Spencer of Buckhannon and Mae Chapman of Melbourne, Fla. Brothers surviving are Ray Flanagan of Belington, Bud Flanagan of Belington and Paul Flanagan of the Kingsville community. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Tristan Skidmore, Connar Flanagan, Jenna and Gunnar Poling and Logan and Ian Smithson. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Flanagan was preceded in death by two grandsons, Gary Michael Skidmore and Jacob Flanagan; four brothers, Stanley Flanagan, Amos Flanagan, Roger Flanagan and June Flanagan; and one sister, Helen Flanagan.

Before becoming disabled Mr. Flanagan was employed by Coastal Lumber and attended the Stringtown United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 16, and until the 11 a.m. funeral hour Monday, March 17, when services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Grady G. Ware

Mr. Grady Glenn Ware, 92, passed away March 13, 2008, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 28, 1915, at Elkwater, Randolph County, a son of the late Dixie Harlan and Alice Mary Channell Ware.

He was never married.

Surviving are his beloved brother, Dixie M. Ware and his wife, Genia, of Tallmadge, Ohio; beloved nephew, Philip Swecker of Valley Head; nieces, Mary Alice McAtee of Elkins and Patricia Ware Gordon of High Point, N.C.; along with several other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews .

Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Delbert H. Ware, Richard Paul Ware, Jeremiah B. Ware and Darley B. Ware; two infant brothers; and three sisters, Nellie G. Ware, Elva A. Ware McAtee and Reta P. Ware Swecker.

Mr. Ware was a World War II veteran and was very proud of the time he served in the Army Air Corps. While in the Army Air Corps, he built fabric airplanes for use in training pilots. He was a fabric and metal airplane mechanic, carbine sharpshooter and rifle marksman. While in the service, he received the American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal. During the course of his working career, Mr. Ware was a farmer, logger, state road worker, letter carrier and deputy assessor of Mingo District in Randolph County. Mr. Ware enjoyed farming and was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying fishing and hunting.

Hallie Kyle

Hallie Canfield Kyle, 98, a former resident of Elkins and more recently of Lewisburg, where she made her home with her daughter, Rita Thomas and son-in-law, Dr. Carl E. Thomas, departed this life early Wednesday morning, March 12, 2008, at her home.

The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Friday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel at 1:30 p.m. today. The Rev. Dr. William E. Calhoun will officiate and interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens at Elkins. Hazel Shears

Hazel Gillispie Shears, 90, of Arbovale, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008, in Pocahontas Center.

Born Nov. 1, 1917, at Arbovale, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Rosa Belle McQuain Gillispie.

She was a resident of Arbovale her entire life and was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bernard W. Shears; five sisters, Ruth Lambert, Lula Mae Wilson, Mary Pebble Alexander, Myrtle Jane Roushe and Alice Blush; and three brothers, Kenton William Gillispie, Owen Keith Gillispie and Kermit Lee Gillispie.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte M. Ervine and husband, Dewey Ervine Jr., of Green Bank and Vicky L. Shears of Morgantown; five sons, Warren L. Shears and wife, Elizabeth, of Louisville, Ky., Wallace K. Shears of Dunmore, Willard L. Shears, George B. Shears and Randall C. Shears, all of Arbovale; two brothers, Harry K. Gillispie of Chatam, Va., and Donald K. Gillispie of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren, Ronald Shears and wife, Angie, and Lynnette Lang and husband, Tony, all of Louisville, Ky., Joni Ervine of Richmond, Va., Clinton Ervine, Hazel Ann Ervine and Sarah Ann Shears, all of Green Bank, Cressie Shears of Lewisburg and Chelsea Shears of Winchester, Va.; eight great-grandchildren, Tiffany, David, Hannah, Connor, Jared, Jacob, Nathan and Karrigan; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale with the Rev. David Fuller officiating. Burial will be in Arbovale Cemetery. Ira J. Coberly

Ira J. Coberly, 80, a well-known businessman of the Elkins area, and a resident of Mountain View Drive, Elkins, departed this life Thursday evening, March 13, 2008, in Mansfield Place at Philippi. He had been in declining health.

At Mr. Coberly’s request, his remains were donated to the Human Gift’s Registry at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Rex J. Lamb

Rex Junior Lamb, 85, of Buckhannon, the Childers Run community, went home to be with the Lord peacefully with his wife and two daughters by his side, Thursday, March 13, 2008, in his home.

He was born May 1, 1922, at Ellamore, the son of the late Silas and Sylvia See Lamb.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Donaghy Lamb, whom he married Feb. 3, 1973; two sons, Kenny Lamb of Boardman, Ohio, and Mike Lamb of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Susan Persino of Weston, Debbie Carpenter of Parkersburg and Margie Hefner of Roanoke, Va.; two other daughters; five stepchildren; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilda Whytsell.

Mr. Lamb loved to travel in the United States. He had served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday at the Tombyln-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel with services starting at 2 p.m. At Mr. Lamb’s request, he will be cremated.
