Carl H. Uhrig Jr.
Carl Henry Uhrig Jr., 61, a resident of Findley Street, Elkins, departed this
life early Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2007, at his home.

Carl H. Uhrig Jr.
Carl Henry Uhrig Jr., 61, a resident of Findley Street, Elkins, departed this
life early Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2007, at his home.
He was born Monday, June 24, 1946, at Baltimore, Md., a son of the late Carl
Henry Uhrig Sr. and Louise Marie Bush Uhrig.
On Dec. 31, 1985, at Baltimore, Md., he was married to the former Emma Rosalee
Lambert Uhrig, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Ronald Lee Uhrig and wife, Joan, of England; one
daughter, Kimberly Ann Uhrig of York, Pa.; one stepson, O. Allen Triplett and
wife, Susan, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one stepdaughter, Sherry Jo Armstrong
and husband, David, of Elkins; two sisters, Kathy DeBethizy and husband, Allen,
and Jill Fritz, all of Baltimore, Md.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-
grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two stepsons, Timothy and David Triplett; and one
great-grandchild.
He attended the schools of Baltimore, Md., and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy,
serving during the Vietnam War. He had been a truck driver throughout his career
and had last driven truck for Sherwin-Williams for 10 years before becoming
disabled. He was a member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, was a
life member of the Greencastle, Pa., Post Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a
member of the Lebanon Lodge 175, AF & AM. He was a Methodist by faith.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6
p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home
chapel Friday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Walter T. Ellison will officiate and
interment will follow in American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at
Cravensdale, where the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and the Tygarts
Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites and
the Elkins Lodge 108 AF & AM will conduct Masonic graveside rites. Lohr
& Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Carl Henry Uhrig

James Underwood
James Christian “Jim” Underwood, 62, of Franklin, died
Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at his home.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Underwood
residence in Franklin. Following cremation, Jim’s ashes will be sprinkled on
the Spruce Knob Campus of Mountain Institute. Kimble Funeral Home services.

Richard R. Unger
Richard Royal Unger, 80, of Buckhannon, died Saturday, March 3,
2007, at his home.
He was born April 5, 1926, at Berkley Springs, a son of the late Royal Austin
Unger and Mary Jane Mesner Unger
Surviving are two brothers, Lewis Charles Unger of Houston, Texas, and Don S.
Unger of Ruther Glen, Va.; one sister, Marguerite Hollen of Myrtle Beach, S.C.;
three nephews, Charles Unger of Ruther Glen, Va., Don S. Unger Jr. of Richmond,
Va., and Charles Unger of Santa Fe, Texas; and three nieces, Rebecca Bumgarner
of Manakin Sabot, Va., Linda Unger of Houston, Texas, and Susan Brock of Katy,
Texas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Lou
Hall.
He was an aviation engineer and Methodist by faith. He was a veteran of World
War II where he served with the 82nd Airborne special forces group (Pioneers).
He was a member of Buckhannon Elks Lodge 1736, Buckhannon Moose Lodge 598 and
Disabled Veterans.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, in Buckhannon Memorial
Park at Buckhannon. Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, Frank B.
Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and Disabled American Veterans Chapters 5 and 36
will conduct military honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home

Carl R. Utterback
Carl Ray Utterback, 78, of Route 1, Moatsville, died Thursday
morning, March 1, 2007, in Grafton City Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 9, 1928, at Moatsville, a son of the late Luther and Nora Elma
(Janes) Utterback.
On March 28, 1960, he married the former Edna Vivian Nestor, who preceded him in
death on July 28, 2004.
Surviving are one sister, Lou Ann Duke, Virginia Beach, Va.; and several nieces
and nephews including Carolyn and Chester Alexander, who had been his primary
care-givers and with whom he had made his home for nearly four years.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Goldie Turney and Irene Pitzer.
Mr. Utterback was a farmer and was a member of Mt. Morris United Methodist
Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, from Stemple
& Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St., Philippi. Pastor Dot Stewart will
officiate and interment will follow in Mt. Morris Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9
a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday.

Helen I. Utz
Helen Ione Short Utz 94, died Sept. 2, 2007, in Port Charlotte,
Fla.
She was the daughter of the late Humbert and Molly Short of Rowlesburg. Mrs. Utz
was born Dec. 31, 1912, at Rowlesburg. She was a graduate of Rowlesburg High
School with the class of 1931.
Mrs. Utz was married to Rolfe Hite Utz, who preceded her in death on Aug. 29,
1996. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.
She is survived by three children, Keith (Carrol) Utz of North Port, Fla.,
Elaine (Ed) Nowak of Kellogg, Idaho, and Wayne (Loretta) Utz of Richmond, Va.;
six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Utz was a member of Glenmore Homemakers’ Club for 43 years, the
Rowlesburg Historical Society and the Fretted Instrument Guild of America. She
was a homemaker and a former doll maker. She was Protestant by faith.
At her request, she is to be cremated and her ashes buried beside her husband. A
private memorial service will be conducted at a later date. From 7 Sep
