Sidney Jackson
Sidney Jackson, 90, of Lorain, Ohio, formerly of Durbin and
Frank, passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, in Community Health Partners of Ohio,
Health Center.
Born July 13, 1917, at Cow Pasture, Va., he was a son of the late William Howard
and Swilla Bell Smith Jackson.
Mr. Jackson was of the Methodist faith. He was a retired barber from Durbin and
a former employee of the Tannery at Frank and the U.S. Forestry Service at
Bartow. He loved to play music.
In addition to his parents, Sidney was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann;
five sisters, Anna, Geneva, Savanna, Maxine and Mabel; and four brothers, Bill,
Edward, Ray and George.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Jackson of Lorain, Ohio; two sons, Robert
Jackson of Tucson, Ariz., and Sidney Jackson Jr. of Washington, D.C.; one
stepdaughter, Jackie Brush of Elyria, Ohio; and two sisters, Margaret Seville of
Marlinton and Gladys.
Visitation will be at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale Sunday,
Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the service hour with the Rev. David
Rittenhouse officiating. Interment will follow in Elkins American Legion Little
Arlington Cemetery with military honors. Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in

Betty M. Jarmow
Betty M. Jarmow, 76, a resident of Elkins, passed away Tuesday morning, July
17, 2007, in the emergency department of Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been
in failing health but her death was sudden and unexpected.
She was born May 11, 1931, at Sand Run, Upshur County, a daughter of the late
Stephen A. and Ruth Riffle Martin. Surviving are a son, Kenneth Lee Jarmow and
wife, Clara, of Tempe, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Celeste Jarmow; six brothers,
Steven Martin and wife, Dixie, and Charles Martin all of Elkins, Richard Lee
Martin and wife, Jane, of Groveport, Ohio, Donald Martin and wife, Angie, of
Henderson, Nev., Robert Martin and wife, Darlene, of New Plymouth, Ohio, and
James Martin and wife, Wilda, of Chesapeake, Ohio; and two sisters, June Sears
and husband, Gene, of Smyrna, Tenn., and Teri Chenoweth and husband, Neil, of
Elkins. Several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Lori Coger her
husband, Tommy, and sons Tommy Jr. and Devin, with whom she made her home also
survive.
Also preceding her in death was an infant sister, Yvonne M. Martin.
Betty was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1949 and attended
Davis & Elkins College. She retired from the U.S. District Court of Northern
West Virginia where she worked as a probation clerk. She was a former member of
Professional Secretaries Association, Business and Professional Women and Goff
Street Church of Christ.

Virginia JefferysMrs. Virginia Harris Jefferys, 91, a resident of 600 Brown Ave.
in Belington, departed this life at 8:50 a.m. Friday morning, April 27, at the
home of her daughter Patty Harvey, with whom she made her home for the past
eight years.
She was born Aug. 18, 1915, at Akron, Ohio, a daughter of the late Minor and
Corda Golden Harris.
She was united in marriage to Neil S. Jefferys, who preceded her in death on
March 27, 1971.
She is survived by her only child, Patty Harvey of Belington; two brothers,
Dickie G. and Harold L. Harris, both of Belington; three grandsons, Jimmie
Harvey and wife, Trudy, of Core, Mike Harvey and wife, Laura, of Belington, and
Greg Harvey and wife, Elizabeth, of Cheat Lake. Also surviving are six
great-grandchildren, Jessica, Dylan, Sara, Madelyn, Cassandra and Sadie Harvey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert
Harris; and her son-in-law Jim Harvey.
Mrs. Jeffreys was a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi and
pursued graduate work from Fairmont State and West Virginia University. She was
a retired school teacher from the Barbour County school system after many years
of teaching. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Belington, a member
of the Retired Teacher Association of Barbour County, and was a 50-year member
of the Belington Chapter 68 Order of Eastern Star were she served as past Worthy
Matron.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 11 a.m.
to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Final rites will then be conducted at 2 p.m. from the
Talbott Chapel with the Rev. Downing Gregory officiating. Interment will follow
in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington. The family asks that in lieu of

Amber L. Jenkins
Amber L. Jenkins, 85, of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Sept. 5,
2007, at her home.
She was born Feb. 9, 1922, at Akron, Ohio, a daughter of the late Claude F. and
Madeline A. Curry Hevener.
On Oct. 25, 1984, she married Glenn P. Jenkins, who preceded her in death on
March 18, 2004.
She is survived by one son, Irving “Sonny” Bardin Jr.. of Paducah, Ky.; two
daughters, Dale E. Smith and husband, Joseph, of Paducah, Ky., and Joan K.
Harman and husband, Kenneth, of Buckhannon; three granddaughters; five
grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jenkins was a homemaker.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Sunday, Sept. 9, from
1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at which time a memorial service will be conducted with the

Richard L. Johnson
Richard Lee Johnson, 40, a resident of Norton, departed this
life early Monday morning, June 18, 2007, in Davis Memorial Hospital. Death was
unexpected.
He was born Thursday, May 11, 1967, at Elkins, a son of Roy Frank Johnson and
Doris Lucille Coberly Johnson, who survive at Elkins.
On Nov. 23, 1990, at Elkins, he was married to the former Juanita “Kay”
Bodkins, who survives at Norton.
Also surviving are four sons, Richard “Andrew” Johnson, Brent Alexander
Johnson, Jeremiah Michael Johnson and Jonah Nathaniel Johnson, all at home; one
brother, James Allen Johnson and wife, Tammy, of Dailey; his mother-in-law,
Margaret Kate Bodkins of Norton; two brothers-in-law, Rick Bodkins and wife,
Beverly, of Belington; Ronnie Bodkins and wife, Wendy, of Harding; one
sister-in-law, Janet Shiflett and husband, Matthew, of Norton; three nieces,
Abagail and Alexis Bodkins and Dusti Lopez; two great-nieces, Kristin and
Katelyn Lopez; and one great-nephew, Christain Lopez.
Richard was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Richard Neal Bodkins.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1985. He had worked
for Elkins Industries, The Inter-Mountain and, at the time of his death, had
worked as a lumber grader for Coastal Lumber Co. for 15 years.
He was active with the Roaring Creek Little League, was president of the Elkins
Area Horseshoe Pitching Association, was the vice president of the West Virginia
State Horseshoe Pitching Association and attended Phillips Chapel Church at
Jimtown.
He was an avid horseshoe pitcher, fisherman and hunter, who enjoyed early
morning fishing trips with his sons and watching them play Babe Ruth and Little
League Baseball.

Audrey L. Johnston
Audrey Lee Johnston, 96, a resident of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, July 17,
2007, in Crestview Manor Nursing Home at Jane Lew.
She was born June 1, 1911, at Teter, a daughter of the late Charles C. and Mary
Ann Nettie Reeder.
On Feb. 10, 1940, she was married to Ernest Victor Johnston, who preceded her in
death Aug. 3, 1988.
Surviving are one sister-in-law, June Allen of California; two nieces, Regina
Dziak and Barbara Synoraski, both of Hazelton, Pa.; and six nephews, Mickey
Fultineer of Buckhannon, Ronnie Reeder of Elkins, John Drexler of Baltimore,
Md., Jody Petrice of Coalton, David Allen of Oregon, and Dennis Allen of
California.
Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Mildred Catherine Fultineer,
Virginia Merillo and Pearl Drexler; and three half brothers, Russel Giles,
Harold Giles and Robert Giles.
She was retired after 23 years with Rick Manufacturing in South ElMonte, Calif.
She was Methodist by faith.
Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral
Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, at the funeral

Edna Johnston
Edna Doris Genevieve Scott Johnston, 83, a resident
of Elkins, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007, at her home
following an extended illness.
She was born May 21, 1924, at Czar, a daughter of the late Perry Gilbert and
Annie Jane Smith Scott.
On March 11, 1950, at the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, she was married to
Eugene Don Johnston who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Carl (Mary) Goodwin of Buckhannon, Mrs.
Greg (Lisa) Moody and Mrs. Jeff (Jill) Zurbuch both of Elkins and Mrs. John
(Toni) Sainato of Newark, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Christopher Goodwin and
wife, Chrysan, Bradley Goodwin, Denise Moody Spratt and husband, Jed, and
Michael Moody and fiancé, Brittany Bolyard, all of Buckhannon, Samantha, Alex
and Emily Zurbuch all of Elkins and Zachary and Ashley Sainato of Newark, Ohio;
one great-grandchild, Taylor Spratt of Buckhannon; a sister, Edith Gould of
Beverly; and a brother, Howard Scott of Creston, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by a grandchild,
Andree Sainato; a brother, Francis Scott; and two sisters, Ethel Bennett and
Ernestine Moore.
Mrs. Johnston was a graduate of Pickens High School with the Class of 1942 and
was employed by the Cleveland Container Company in Cleveland, Ohio, from 1942
until 1945. She was employed as Assistant Postmaster at the Czar Post Office
from 1945 until 1950 and was a homemaker for many years. She was a member of the
Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in
Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 29, from the

Willard S. Johnston
Willard S. Johnston, 85, a resident of Montrose, passed away
Monday, May 28, 2007, in the Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining
health.
He was born Sept. 21, 1921, at Davis, a son of the late Mortimer and Artie
Thompson Johnston.
On March 5, 1949, in Richmond, Ind., he was married to Evangeline Mae White
Johnston, who preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 2005.
Surviving are five sons, Ronald Johnston and wife, Kathy, of Montrose, Richard
Johnston and wife, Ruth, of Bunker Hill, David Johnston of Hambleton, Keith
Johnston and wife, Terry, of Elkins and Karl Johnston and wife, Paula, of
Montrose. A daughter, Deborah L. Hedrick and husband, Rick, of Montrose; a
brother, Everett Johnston of Canaan Valley; 15 grandchildren, Amy, Bryan, April,
Beverly, Misty, Melissa, Chrystal, Andy, Tricia, Jessie, Mark, Lauren, Jacob,
Jennifer and Jason; and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding him in death was a half-sister, Nove Johnston of Newark, Ohio.
Mr. Johnston was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II during the
Battle of the Bulge. He was a self-employed contractor for many years prior to
his retirement. For the past 25 years, Mr. Johnston enjoyed farming and bee
keeping. He was the treasurer for the Randolph County Farmer’s Market and was
a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall.

Arthur C. Jones
Arthur C. “Trigg” Jones, 95, of Maysville, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at his residence.Edward D. Jones
Edward Darl “Ed” Jones, 80, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and
formerly of Elkins, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, in Palms of Pasadena Hospital
under Hospice Care.
He was an Elkins native and moved to St. Petersburg in 1956. He worked as an
electrician at ECI for 11 years, and retired as an electrician from The Times
Publishing Co. after 21 years of service. He was a member of Pasadena Baptist
Church where he served as a trustee, a deacon and served on various committees.
He also taught a special needs Sunday school class for more than 30 years. He
was a 50-year member and past chaplain of St. Petersburg Lodge 139 F&AM, and
was currently a member of Nitram Lodge 188 F&AM, Bethlehem Chapter 169 of
the OES. He was a co-manager for 12 years at St. Vincent’s Episcopal Church
thrift shop in Gulfport, Fla. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in
occupied Japan in 1945 and 1946. He was the recipient of the Book of Golden
Deeds award in 2005 from the St. Petersburg Exchange Club.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Wellford Ellifrits Jones; one
daughter, Barbara Louise Matyi of St. Petersburg; one sister, Helen Lantz; and
one brother, Harry Jones, both of Elkins.

Evelyn Pearl Wilmoth Jones, 84, a former resident of Montrose,
and more recently a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center,

Evelyn P. Jones
Evelyn Pearl Wilmoth Jones, 84, a former resident of Montrose,
and more recently a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center,
departed this life Sunday morning, June 24, 2007, at the center.
She was born Monday, May 28, 1923, at Montrose, a daughter of the late Orlan
Wilmoth and Carrie Gainer Wilmoth.
She was married to Roy C. “Squire” Jones, who preceded her in death during
1983.
Surviving are four sons, Joe Jones and wife, Jo Ellen, of Montrose, Glen Jones
and wife, Jean, of Elkins, James Jones of Morgantown and Robert “Bob” Jones
and wife, Sharon, of Elkins; three daughters, Wanda Siler of Montrose, Sherry
Palko and husband, Ted, of Ocala, Fla., and Dianne Marstiller and husband, Dick,
of Elkins; two sisters, Dora Woods of Nitro and Phyllis Cross of Elkins; 14
grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were four brothers, Darl, Clarence, Arthur and Bryan
Wilmoth; and four sisters, Eva Channels, Beulah Jones, Pauline Crawford and
Vinnie Scruggs.
Mrs. Jones attended the schools of Randolph County, and was a licensed practical
nurse, being valedictorian of her class. She had been employed at Davis Memorial
Hospital until her retirement. She had also worked as a private duty nurse for
families around Randolph County and provided wonderful child care for the
grandchildren. She was a member of Israel United Methodist Church at Kerens.

Karen York Weese Jones, 50, a resident of the Valley Bend,
departed this life Sunday morning, Feb. 25, 2007, at her home. She had been in
her usual health and death was unexpected.
She was born Wednesday, July 25, 1956, at Elkins, a daughter of the late George
W. York and Rella Mae Lambert York.
She was twice married. First, for 25 years to Edward E. Weese; second, on May
10, 2000, at Elkins, to Kenton E. Jones, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Scott E. Weese of Beverly; one daughter, Laura B.
Weese of Beverly; two stepsons, Kenton Brian Jones and wife, Donna, of Diamond,
Ohio, and Bradley Matthew Jones and fiancée, Monica, of Akron, Ohio; and one
stepgrandson, Dylon Jones of Diamond, Ohio.
Karen was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1974, had been
known as the “Cable Lady” having worked in the office for many of the
previous cable companies in Elkins, and more recently was an employee of Elkins
Regional Convalescent Center working in the activity department.
She was a member of Tygarts Valley Fire Department Auxiliary, Mountaineer
Chapter-Izaak Walton League, Tygarts Valley Homestead Association and had a
great love for her family and friends.

Pauline Laughlin Jones, 92, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, June
24, 2007, in Colonial Place in Elkins.
Born Nov. 22, 1914, at Parkersburg, she was the daughter of the late Okey J. and
Frida Fischer Laughlin.
She was preceded in death by one brother, J. Harold Laughlin; and one sister,
Ann Laughlin Roney.
She is survived by her son, J. Brooks Jones and daughter-in-law, Josette
Holtzworth Jones, of Buckhannon; and two sisters, Nancy Laughlin East of
Harrisonburg, Va., and Alice Laughlin White of Belpre, Ohio. She is also
survived by granddaughter, Jennifer Jones-Ravich and her husband, Vadim, of
Clifton, Va.; granddaughter, Janice Jones Landshof and her husband, William, of
Hilliard, Ohio; and grandson, Jeffrey Laughlin Jones and Rayanne Harris of
Breckenridge, Colo. Also surviving are four great-grandsons, Alexander Landshof,
Charles Landshof, Wesley Ravich and Winston Ravich.
For many years, Mrs. Jones worked as the medical office administrator for Dr.
E.C. Hartman in Parkersburg. She retired in 1986 from the Foreign Claims
Division of the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Md. She was a
lifelong member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, and was a
graduate of Parkersburg High School. She also graduated from West Virginia
Wesleyan College where she was a member of the college’s Emeritus Club, the
Wesleyan Society and a former member of the West Virginia Wesleyan College
Alumni Council.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 3, at 2 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral
Home in Buckhannon with the Rev. Harold Elmore officiating. Friends may call one
hour prior to the funeral time. Burial will be in Lubeck Cemetery in Lubeck. In
lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews United

Roger Ray Jones, 50, a resident of Elkins, departed this life
Friday afternoon, Aug. 31, 2007, at the Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in
failing health and death was attributed to cancer.

Roger R. Jones
Roger Ray Jones, 50, a resident of Elkins, departed this life
Friday afternoon, Aug. 31, 2007, in Davis Memorial Hospital. Roger fought a
courageous two-year battle with cancer.
He was born Tuesday, March 5, 1957, at Elkins, a son of Benjamin “Benny”
Jones and Jean Howell Jones of Elkins. He was the loving husband of Deborah
Albright Jones, having celebrated their 30 wedding anniversary on May 28. He was
the devoted father of Emily Jones Phillips and husband, Michael, of Elkins; and
three stepgrandchildren, Tyler, Carleigh and Brynna Phillips. Also surviving are
his aunt, Vonnie Howell of Elkins; mother-in-law, Minnie Poling Albright of
Elkins; sister in law, Beverly Albright Leighton and husband, Paul, of Clive,
Iowa; nephew, Michael Leighton of Clive, Iowa; and several cousins and many dear
friends.
Roger attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Elkins High
School with the class of 1975. He attended Davis & Elkins College and was
employed at Cupp’s Furniture Store at Elkins. He was an avid Harley Davidson
biker and enjoyed boating on Stonewall Jackson Lake with family and friends. He
was a drummer for the West Virginia Highlanders for more than 30 years and was a
member of the Elkins Lodge 1135, BPOE. He was a Methodist by faith and a member
of First United Methodist Church of Elkins.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5
p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel
Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Ellis E. Conley and the Rev. Dr.
Basil A. Hensley will officiate and interment will follow in Mountain State
Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be
in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Randolph County
Unit in care of Polly O’Kernick, 105 Wilson Lane, Elkins, W.Va. 26241 or to
First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Ave., Elkins, W.Va. 26241. Lohr &

William D. Jones
William “Bill” D. Jones, 62, a lifetime resident of Union
community, Philippi, passed away Monday, April 30, 2007, in Rosewood Nursing
Home in Grafton.
Bill was born Sept. 26, 1944, at Radford, Va., and moved to Union community on
his grandparents’ farm in 1947. He was the son of Delbert Junior and Lucille
(Reeder) Jones.
On Aug. 15, 1967, Bill was united in marriage to the former Anne Louise Bickel
of Reading, Pa., who survives in Philippi.
Bill was the proud father of two sons, William Edward “Eddie” and wife,
Tammy Jo (Crites) Jones, and Philip Wesley “Wes” and wife, Angela Christine
(Frey) Jones, both of Philippi; one daughter, Amy Marie Auvil Jones of Barbour
County; and four grandchildren, Scotty Jack, Kaitlin C., Kory A. and Madison N.
Jones. Also surviving are two nieces, Jennifer Jones of Seattle, Wash., and
Laurie Jones Combee of Baltimore, Md.; and one nephew, Richard “Rick” Larry
Jones of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by one brother, John F. Jones.
Bill attended Union School and graduated from Philippi High School in 1962. He
attended Potomac State College in 1963 and transferred and graduated with
secondary education degree from Alderson-Broaddus College in 1966. Mr. Jones was
employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. when he was called to active duty with
the U.S. Army in 1967. He served two years in Army Intelligence in Kansas and
Illinois. In 1970, Bill received his master of arts degree in comprehensive
history at West Virginia University and continued to work toward a doctorate
degree in history. Also during the 1970s, Bill worked for Grafton, Badger and
Balar Coal companies. He was a member of the Badger Coal Rescue team which won
several awards throughout West Virginia and the nation. During 1978-1997, Bill
taught world history, geography, anthropology and sociology at Philip Barbour
High School. He also wrote the curriculum and began the first class of military
history to assist students who wished to enter the military after graduation. A
Military History Club was also established which centered on civic activities
throughout Barbour County. Students traveled to historical parks to study
firsthand. Both classes and the club worked closely with the various military
recruiting branches and veteran organizations. He was awarded Philip Barbour
“Students’ Choice Teacher of the Year” from 1991-1997. Bill taught college
extension classes for Fairmont State and Alderson-Broaddus College. Bill was a
member and past-commander of Philippi American Legion Post 44, Bigelow Lodge 52
AF&AM, Philippi Baptist Church and a member of the Union Community Grange.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi,
from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and on Thursday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the
service hour, with the Rev. Dean Davidson officiating. Interment will follow in
Jones Family Cemetery with the Bigelow Lodge 52 AF&AM conducting graveside
rites. Military honors will be conducted by the Barbour County American Legion

Donald Richard Judy, 72, of Petersburg, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, in Hampshire Memorial Hospital in Romney.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gregory A.
