Robert L. Kalar
Robert Lee “Bob” Kalar, 82, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Wednesday evening, Dec. 20, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to congestive heart failure.
He was born Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1924, at Parsons, a son of the late Lloyd Kalar and Lula Mae Schoonover Kalar Loughry.
On Oct. 10, 1948, at Parsons, he was married to the former Lolita Carolyn Haddix, who survives. They had celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, Michael Lee Kalar and wife, LeAnn, of Summerfield, S.C.; three daughters, Madonna Carolyn Stokes and husband, Richard, of Elkins, Rebecca Marlayne Nestor and husband, Donald, of Parsons and Charlotte Kaye Lee and husband, Jimmy, of Jackson, N.J.; one sister, Mary “Tootie” Hovatter of Parsons; nine grandchildren, Angela Simmons, Allison Nestor, Valerie Rudy, Gretchen and Cameron Kalar, Christie Olowsky, Justin Smith, Cheryl Scott and Lisa Fazenbaker; and five great-grandchildren, Dylan and Rebekah Simmons, Nicole Olowsky, Jeremy Smith and Xavier French.
Preceding him in death were one daughter, Jennifer Ellen Elza; one brother, John W. Kalar; and six sisters, Jennie Ambrose, Lucille Hinchman, Helen Robinson, Rachel Hovatter, Hilda Strawderman and Gladys Barb.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1943. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II in England, France and Germany as a military policeman on the military railway. He was one of the first mail carriers in Parsons.
Bob began working as a clerk for Barb’s Drug Store on Oct. 7, 1947. He worked his way into the pharmacy and eventually became the store’s manager, a title he held beginning in the mid 1960s until the store’s closure in March of 1999. He was also employed by Rite Aid Pharmacy from March 1999 until 2004. He had been an assistant to 14 pharmacists through the years and eventually became a licensed technician when it became required to have certification. He received the award of Employee of the Year during 1984. He was past master and chaplain of Pythagoras Lodge 128 AF & AM, and was honored in 2006 as a 50-year member. He was a member of the Scottish Rite in the Osiris Shrine Temple. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, where he served as the church’s lay leader, treasurer, was a member of the choir and an active member of the administrative board.
He was inducted into the Parsons High School Alumni Hall of Fame in 1994. Besides his family, his passion was serving the public and helping those who had a need. He was known for his pleasant personality and always having a smile.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Sunday, Dec. 24, Mr. Kalar will be moved to First United Methodist Church where friends may call from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Maude Kaniak
Maude Kaniak, 87, died Jan. 6, 2006, in Jackson South Hospital in Miami, Fla., following a brief illness. A former resident of Elkins, she had lived in Miami for several years.
She was born in Camden, N.J., and grew up and spent much of her life in Cape May, N.J. She also lived in St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dallas, Texas, before moving to Kerens in 1977.
She was one of the first residents of the Elkins Manor, and lived there until moving to Florida in 2003. She was best known for her good deeds, her love and support of her family and caring kindness to others. While she was physically able, she gave loving long-term care to numerous critically ill family members, including her beloved sister, Helen Converse, and her father-in-law, Joseph Kaniak. She loved to do craft projects, making handmade gifts for friends and family. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends and playing bingo, and loved taking trips with her friends at the Elkins Manor. She was active in the Randolph County Senior Center and continued this practice by being very active in the Gelber Center in Miami, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Joseph Kaniak, a pharmacist, in 1959; and her sister, Helen Converse in 1986.
She is survived by her son, Jerome Blevin and his wife, Pat, of Point Pleasant, N.J.; daughter, Helen Glidden and husband, Howard, of Miami, Fla.; and former daughter-in-law, Margo Blevin of Elkins. She was especially close to her two nieces, Alice Rose and Katherine Seaver, of Miami, Fla. She had five grandchildren, John Blevin and wife, D’Ann Harris Blevin, of Parsippany, N.J., Scott Blevin and wife, Jennifer, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jane Blevin of Los Angeles, Calf., Mark Glidden and wife, Louann, of Miami, Fla., and Michael Glidden and wife, Amanda, of Melbourne, Fla. She had 14 great-grandchildren, Sarah and Annacler Harris-Blevin of Parsippany, N.J.; Alex, Amanda, and Jill Blevin, Jessica, Christopher, David and Jennifer Macias, all of Oklahoma; Matthew, Travis, Joseph, and Jake Glidden, all of Florida; and one great-great-grandchild, Hannah Macias, daughter of David Macias, of Oklahoma. She is also survived by her two closest friends, Betsy Currence and Elizabeth Perkins of Elkins.

Evelyn Karickhoff
Evelyn M. Karickhoff, 75, a resident of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
She was born July 6, 1931, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Arthur Lee Hall and Cora Aurilee Gallaher Hall.
Surviving are one daughter, Nancy (Grill) Hull Wilson of Buckhannon; two sons, Bob Grill and Frank Karickhoff of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Beth Rickman and husband, Rick, and Lori Heater, all of Buckhannon; four great-granddaughters, Arianna Rickman, Alison Rickman, Abigail Rickman and Reagan Heater, all of Buckhannon; and two brothers, Joe Hall and Bud Hall of Buckhannon.
Also preceding her in death was one brother, Harry Hall; and two sisters, Alice Wentz and Mary White.
She was tax deputy for the Upshur County Sheriff’s office. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church at Hall. She was superintendent of Bethany Baptist Church and secretary and treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Friends will be received from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Poling officiating. Interment will follow in Bethany Baptist Cemetery at Hall. Ruby R. Karickhoff
Ruby R. Karickhoff, 76, a resident of Buckhannon, died Friday, March 31, 2006, in United Hospital Center at Clarksburg.
She was born July 23, 1929, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Samuel Brent and Mertie Theo Studer Nuzum.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Tom Smith and Diane and Darrel Lanham, all of Buckhannon. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Tiffany Smith and Kristen Lanham, both of Buckhannon, and AnnMarie Walker of Texas; one great-granddaughter, Maranda Walker of Texas; one sister, Dottie Lou Lough and husband, Frederick, of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Ann Walker; and one brother, Carl Brent Nuzum.
Ruby loved and enjoyed her grandchildren. She was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Mary A. Keene
Mary A. Keene, 80, of Belington, died Saturday morning, April 8, 2006, in Talbott Personal Care Home at Belington, following an extended illness.
She was born June 13, 1925, at Grafton, a daughter of the late Pearlie and Edith (Efaw) Ankrom.
On Nov. 8, 1946, she was married to Clinton Carl Keene, who preceded her in death Dec. 1, 1973.
Surviving are two sons, Eugene (Tippy) Keene and Truman (Emogene) Keene, both of Belington; four daughters, Virginia Hymes, Opal (Timmy) Sturm and Genelda (Paul) Davis, all of Belington and Dorothy Joan (Terry) Biller of Elkins; one brother, Harry Raymond (Jeanette) Ankrom of Washington, Pa.; two half brothers, Pearlie Ankrom of Sistersville and Kenny Ankrom of Belleville; four half sisters, Nancy Runion, Emogene Ankrom, Mary Barnhart and Patty Smith, all of Sistersville; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Maretta Phillips and Mary Marks of Buckhannon and Patty Umble of Smithfield, Pa.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Donnie Dale Ankrom; one sister, Nina Lee Keene; a granddaughter, Rhonda Lynn Davis; one stepson, Frank Keene; a son-in-law, Robert “Sonny” Hymes; and a niece, Betty Lou Baisi.
Mrs. Keene was a retired employee of the dietary department of the Memorial General Hospital. She was a former housekeeper, a former employee of the Golden Rule Co. and a former cook in the Belington Center of Barbour County Senior Citizens. She had been a member of the Belington Church of the Nazarene since 1964.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Belington Church of the Nazarene at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 11. The Rev. F.L. “Wink” McQuain will officiate and interment will follow in the Barbour Memorial Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave. at Belington from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, when Mrs. Keene will be moved to the Belington Church of the Nazarene where friends may call from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour.

Frank V. Keener, 81, a resident of Fairmont Avenue, Philippi, passed away Friday, March 31, 2006, at his residence following a brief illness.

Mr. Keener was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Clayborne; two brothers, Bernard and Jim Keener; and one granddaughter, Paula Ann Miller.
Mr. Keener was a retired coal miner of the United Mine Workers Association Local 1949. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army as private first class in the 60th Infantry Regiment. He served in central Europe under the leadership of George C. Patton. Mr. Keener received the Good Conduct Medal, World War II victory ribbons, Army Occupation Medal, Rifleman 745 Combat Infantry Badge and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3081 in Grafton and was also a member of Elks Lodge 308 in Grafton. Mr. Keener enjoyed spending countless hours in his garden and spending time with his children and their families.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Lillie G. Kelley
Lillie G. Kelley, 93, a resident of Tallmansville, died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at the home of her daughter, Mary Gatrell of Tallmansville.
She was born Aug. 13, 1912, at Tenmile, a daughter of the late Granville and Miltilda Sharp Perry.
On March 22, 1930, she was united in marriage to Paul Kelley, who preceded her in death June 21, 1993.
Surviving are five sons, Virgil and Mary Kelley of Ohio, Cecil Kelley of Mount Union, Raymond Kelley of Ohio, Elmer and Mabel Kelley of Tallmansville and Caris Kelley of Ohio; two daughters, Mary and Bill Gatrell of Tallmansville and Evon and Robert Suder of Swamp Run; 26 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Hattie Shaffer, Merneva May Perry and Ann Karlen; five brothers, Darion Perry, Dave Perry, Henry Perry, Floyd Perry and Lewis Perry; one son, Granville Kelley; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ.

Orville G. Keller
At 5:55 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2006, the Rev. Orville G. Keller answered his Master’s call to come home.
The Rev. Keller began his Christian ministry serving churches in the West Virginia Baptist Convention’s Twelve Pole Association in 1953 as a bi-vocational minister, while continuing to be an employee of the Chessie System Railway. During his ministry in West Virginia he became known as the “Pastor to the Railroaders.” One of the main activities of the Rev. Keller’s ministry was being a camp director and camp pastor of the Twelve Pole Youth Camp. Upon transfer to Baltimore, Md., the Rev. Keller became pastor of the Long Green Baptist Church and supply pastor for several other churches throughout the state. After 43 years of service to the railroad, the Rev. Keller and his wife, Dorothy, retired to Gwynn’s Island, Va., where he became active at Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church and the Mid Tidewater Association. The Rev. Keller will be sadly missed as he touched the lives of many people, especially with his ministry of visitation to hospitals and nursing homes. The Rev. Keller proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-1945.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Keller; two sons, Jerry Keller and his wife, Jane, of Laurel, Md., and Terry Keller and his wife, Cheryl, of Mt. Airy, Md.; one daughter Marijane Kiley and her husband, Richard, of Elkins; granddaughter, Erika Rozell and her husband, Aubrey, of Culpeper, Va.; three grandsons, Jason Keller of Leesburg, Va., Richard Kiley III and his wife, Maureen, of Saylorsburg, Pa. and Jonathan Kiley; two great-granddaughters, Shelby Kiley and Nevaeh Kiley; and two great-grandsons, Carson Rozell and Jordan Kiley.
The family will receive friends today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 28, at 11 a.m. in the church. Lloyd E. Kelley
Lloyd E. “Possum” Kelley, 74, a resident of Tallmansville, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing Care Facility at Buckhannon.
He was born May 15, 1932, at Tenmile, a son of the Lonnie Kelley and Gertie Reed Kelley.
On Feb. 4, 1956, he was married to Ima Jean Hamilton Kelley, who survives at Tallmansville.
He is also survived by two sons, Donnie Hamilton and wife, Brenda, of Ellamore and Kennith Kelley and wife, Kay, of Buckhannon; four daughters, Judy Gray of Fairmont, Connie Zickefoose of Elkins, Pam Moran and husband, William, of Romney and Carrie Zickefoose of Volga; two brothers, Junior Kelley of Red Knob and Daniel Kelley of Warren, Ohio; one sister, Sarah Riffle of Lick Run; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
He was a coal miner for Badger Coal Co.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Ten Mile Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael George officiating. Alice J. Kellison
Alice June Rice Kellison, 79, of Buckhannon, went to be with her Heavenly Father Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Buckhannon.
She was born April 18, 1927, in Upshur County, the daughter of William Edward Rice and Blanche Liston Rice.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister to her family.
She was the owner of June’s Cakes, Flowers and Candy Supplies. She had a natural artistic ability for decorating cakes and arranging flowers.
On Nov. 28, 1946, she was married to Ural Blaine Kellison, who survives.
Surviving besides her husband are two children, Vickie Walton and Brad Kellison; two grandchildren, Tiffany Leigh and husband, Chris, of Buckhannon and Houston Walton of Buckhannon; two great-granddaughters, Regan Cassidy Leigh and Kaylin Shae Walton; sisters, Lois Fidler and husband, John, of LeHigh Acres, Fla., Betty Neely and husband, Scott, of Charleston and Mary Lou Shafer of Richmond, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were an infant daughter, Karen Sue Kellison; a sister, Pauline See; a brother, Jack Edward Rice; and nephews, Rodney Blaine Fidler and Larry Eugene See.
She was a 50-year member of Easter Star at Rock Cave and a member of Rock Cave Methodist Church. She attended First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon and was a member of the Circle at the church.

Phyllis M. Kendrick
Phyllis Marie Kendrick, 66, of Buckhannon, died at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2006, in United Hospital Center at Clarksburg.
She was born Oct. 10, 1939, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Duran Paul Gifford and Lillie Maude Shipman Gifford.
On Feb. 1, 1959, she was married to Lester Kendrick, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are two sons, Mike Kendrick and wife, Amanda, of Denver, Colo., and Danny Kendrick of Buckhannon; one daughter, Debbie Mayle and husband, Elwood, of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Joshua and Wendy Russel, Daniel and Steven; one granddaughter, Melissa; one great-grandson, Zechariah; two sisters, Sue Berkenstock of South Carolina and Mary Butcher of Buckhannon; and her stepmother, Betty Gifford of Buckhannon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Helen Gifford; and two brothers, Bobbie Smith and Herbert Smith.
She was a homemaker and attended Way of Holiness Church.

James W. Kerns Sr.
James Wilson “Jim” Kerns Sr., 65, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, Sept. 5, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 6, 1940, at Sully, a son of the late Nathaniel Wilson Kerns and Freda Marie Nelson Kerns Smith.
Jim was a graduate of Harman High School with the class of 1958 where he served as secretary of the Future Farmers of America. He also held an associate’s degree from Fairmont State College.
On Sept. 23, 1961, at Sully, Jim was united in marriage to the former Sharyn Vaughn White, who survives at East Dailey.
Mr. Kerns was employed at Labcraft for 32 years and had owned his own businesses, Laurel Mountain and Mountain State Dimensions, in the late 1990s. At the time of his death, he was retired, but continued to teach moulder classes at the Wood Technology Center, where he had been a teacher for the past 15 years. For the past 23 years, he had been a member of Faith Baptist Chapel, where he was active as a deacon, was a past Sunday school teacher and was ordained as a lay speaker in 1990. He was also involved with the church outreach serving as a Bible study teacher at Elkins Manor and previously at Huttonsville Correctional Center. Jim was a founding member of the Gospel Singing Group “I’m Free” and he and the group traveled each week to a different Elkins area nursing home to minister in music to the residents. He enjoyed playing and singing music, fishing with his grandchildren and hunting.
In addition to his wife, Sharyn, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Denver (Ellen) Fortney of Mill Creek, Mrs. William (Debra) West of Harrisonburg, Va., and Mrs. Shane (Susan) Maxwell of Valley Bend; and one son, James W. Kerns II and wife, Cathy, of Elkins. Ten grandchildren, Denny Fortney and wife, Jenni, of Elkins, Kymberly Fortney and fiance, James Autry, of Mill Creek, Emmitt and Joseph West of Harrisonburg, Va., Nathaniel Kerns-Paugh of Texas, Amy Ginnavan and husband, Bryan, of Berlin, Md., James Winters III and wife, Joanie, and Chester Winters, all of French Creek, and Andrew and Ian Maxwell of Valley Bend also survive. Seven great-grandchildren, Devan and Daryan Scott, Bethany Fortney, Logan Ginnavan, Micala, John Robert and James Winter IV; and two brothers, Ralph Daniel Kerns and wife, Mary Ann, of Elkins and Leonard Dale Kerns and wife, Barbara Jo, of Valley Bend also survive.
Also preceding him in death were one daughter and his stepfather, Joseph Daniel Smith.

Twila Yvonne Fulk Kerns, 78, a resident of Harman, departed this life early Saturday morning, Sept. 2, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health since being diagnosed with leukemia in March.
She was born Thursday, Aug. 9, 1928, at Albright, a daughter of the late Cecil Fulk and Vivetta Wratchford Fulk, who survives at Beckley.
On April 12, 1947, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Emit Glen Kerns, who preceded her in death Feb. 8, 1982.
Surviving are one son, Norman Kerns and wife Kathy, of Harman; one daughter-in-law, Rosalie Kerns of Harman; one brother, John Fulk of Naoma; seven sisters, Sue Armstrong of Churchville, Va., Norman Simmons of Ashland, Ohio, Wanda Browning of Naoma, Helen “Lou” Simmons of Cleveland, Ohio, Debbie Webb of Seth, Doris Pettry of Naoma and Pam Buckland of Sprague; three grandchildren, Christopher Kerns of Moorefield, Jerry Kerns of Ray Brook, N.Y., and Melissa Kerns of Harman; two great-grandchildren, Noah Kerns of Calif., and Caitlyn Kerns of Harman; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were one son, Kenneth Kerns; two brothers, Roy and Kenneth Fulk; and one grandson, Brian.
She attended the Mountain View School at Rock Creek, was a homemaker, was a member of Harman Post 5781, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and Job Church of God.

Flossie Elizabeth Kerr, 91, a resident of Route 2, Belington, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006.
She was born June 6, 1915, at Witchita, Kan., a daughter of the late Henry and Helen (Barker) Marteney.
She was united in marriage, in October 1932, to Kenneth Kerr, who preceded her in death Oct. 17, 1965.
Surviving are one daughter, Sylvia and husband, Wilbur Nitz, of Route 2, Belington; one sister, Loueda Stafford of Philippi; and three grandchildren, Kevin Nitz of Paletine, Ill., Sherri and husband, Robert Hunt, of Moatsville and Jay Nitz of Chicago, Ill.
Mrs. Kerr was preceded in death by one son, Donald Kerr; one granddaughter, Teresa Ann Nitz; three sisters, Eva Nuzum, Vaughnee Smith and Cathelene (Baughman) Marsh; and one brother, Junior Marteney.
Mrs. Kerr was a homemaker and in earlier years worked in the laundry department of Broaddus Hospital. She was a member of Corley United Methodist Church and Ladies Aid.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 8 a.m. to noon at which time she will be moved to Corley United Methodist Church to lie in state from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Earl Ketterman, 76, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born April 11, 1930, at Onego, a son of the late Fred and Mae Hedrick Ketterman.
Surviving are his wife, Miriam White Ketterman of Elkins; a son, Steve Ketterman and wife, Lisa, of Elkins; a brother, Roy “Buck” Ketterman and wife, Cathy, of Beverly; a sister, Reva Poling of Philippi; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Maggie.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Hubert and Sheldon Ketterman; and his twin sister, Merle.
Mr. Ketterman retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways in 1991. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and riding his four-wheeler. He was a Protestant by faith.

Freddie Emory Kisamore, 75, a resident of Seneca Rocks and formerly of Charleston, died Thursday, April 17, 2006, in Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.
He was born Aug. 13, 1930, at Riverton, a son of the late Emory Kisamore and Kertie Harper.
On Oct. 16, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ruby Maxine White, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Rosemary Bearfield and husband, George, of Charleston and Deborah Harper and husband, Berlin, of Seneca Rocks; one sister, Frances Wimer and husband, Ambrose, of Cherry Grove; two brothers, Harman Kisamore of Seneca Rocks and Ival P. Kisamore of Charleston; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Edwin Kisamore.
He was a graduate of Circleville High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired construction superintendent with the interstate highway system. He was a member of Teamsters Local 984, American Legion, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Beni Kedem Shrine Temple of Charleston and Salina Lodge No. 27 AF & AM of Malden.

Theodore Kisamore Jr.
Theodore Kisamore, Jr., 74, a resident of Valley View Mobile Home Court, Chenoweth Creek Road, Elkins, departed this life Sunday morning, Jan. 22, 2006, at his home. He had been in declining health.
He was born Wednesday, April 1, 1931, in Tucker County, a son of the late Theodore Kisamore Sr. and Derrie Hedrick Kisamore.
On Oct. 24, 1955, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Connie Mae Helmick, who preceded him in death Jan. 24, 2004.
Surviving are one son, Theodore “Teddy” Kisamore III and wife, Debbie, of Elkins; one daughter, Tammy L. Kisamore of Elkins; one brother, Melvin Kisamore of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Lorine Webb and husband, Kenny, of Beverly and Mable Tosti and husband, Herb, of Fairmont; two grandchildren, Erin Ann Kisamore and Jimmy Kisamore, both of Elkins; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Armstrong of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were two daughters, Tina Marie Story and Derrie Pauline Kisamore; four brothers, Elmer, Dallas, Neal and Elwood Kisamore; and two sisters, Josephine Phillips and Thelma Jean Kisamore.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Air Force, had worked for the General Tire Co. at Akron, Ohio, Kingsford Manufacturing at Parsons and had worked as a landscaper in Virginia until his retirement in 1995. He loved hunting, fishing, reading and crossword puzzles.

Dawne J. Kittle
Dawne June Jones Kittle, 38, of Philippi, was called to heavenly service Jan. 5, 2006, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, following a brief illness.
She was the beloved wife of R. Matthew Kittle, superintendent of Barbour County Schools; and the adored mother of three precious children, Hallie Dawne Kittle, 11, Dahlton Matthew Kittle, 10 and Mateah Breian Kittle, 8.
Dawne was born at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas on May 11, 1967, the oldest daughter of Lyle and Brenda Boggess Jones of South Charleston.
In addition to her husband, children and parents, she is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lyle Jones II and April of Greer, S.C., and Owen and Melanie Jones of Key Largo, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Sam Faber of Kenna; and maternal grandmother, Doris Boggess of New Cumberland. She is also survived by aunts and uncles, Willard and Diana Jones of South Charleston, Robert and Charlotte Jones of Cypress, Ill., Rhena Cook of Charlotte, N.C., Tom and Karen Jones of Ballwin, Mo., Beverly Weaver of Weirton, Joy and David Schoolcraft of New Cumberland and “Bucky” and Patty Boggess of Toronto, Ohio. Additionally, she is survived by a sister-in-law, Marian Price of Fairmont; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Marianna Kittle of Bridgeport; and nephews and nieces, Trey, Zachery, “Little O” Owen, Alexa and Riley.
Preceding Dawne in death were her maternal grandfather, Richard Boggess; paternal grandfather, B.T. Jones; paternal grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Jones; and cousin, Tracy Cook.
A 1985 graduate of South Charleston High School, Dawne continued her education at Fairmont State University and West Virginia State University, completing an associate degree in medical laboratory technology and a four-year degree in medical technology, respectively.
Dawne began her professional career as a medical lab technician at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston and as a laboratory director at Doctor’s Hospital in South Charleston. She later worked at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins as a medical technologist. Following that, she was a medical laboratory sales representative and consultant for INFOLAB. Her next position was as lab director at Medbrook Medical Associates in Bridgeport, and in 1995, she became the chief operating officer for Premier Medical Group in Clarksburg. Leaving Premier in 2005, she returned to INFOLAB in her current position of regional territorial manager serving northern West Virginia, southwestern Pennsylvania and western Maryland.
Dawne was a coach for Rising Start Gymnastics in Philippi and enjoyed bowling on the Philippi and Clarksburg bowling leagues. She was a multi-talented woman who loved country music and collected Precious Moments and anything that had a cow on it. Family was the focus of Dawne’s life, and she will be forever loved and missed by them. She was a devoted wife and nurturing mother, and she leaves many memories for her children and husband to cherish. She attended Living Waters Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Philippi.
Visitation and fellowship for family and friends will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Katherine Kittle, 75, a resident of Elkins and a patient in the Good Samaritan Center in Belington, passed away at 2:35 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, in the center.
She was born Jan. 17, 1931, at Grafton, a daughter of the late William C. and Madeline Skillman Powell. In 1951, she was married to Delmar Kittle who preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, Brad Kittle and wife, Judy, of Elkins; a brother, John Robert “Bob” Powell of Richmond, Va.; and four nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Thomas Davis and William C. Powell Jr. and wife, Dorcas Barb Powell.
Mrs. Kittle was a graduate of Elkins High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins.
At the request of the deceased, her remains will be cremated. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Flowers are to be omitted. Squire B. Kittle, 94, a former resident of East Dailey, passed away Sunday Morning, Oct. 22, 2006, in Nella’s Nursing Home Inc. at Crystal Springs.

Squire B. Kittle
Squire Bosworth “Bosy” Kittle, 94, a resident of East Dailey and for the past four years, a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home at Crystal Springs, passed away at 4:02 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, in the nursing home.
He was born Feb. 14, 1912, at Adolph, a son of the late Simeon Benjamin Kittle and Rena Jane Goss Kittle.
Mr. Kittle was a veteran of World War II, having served his country with the U.S. Army in New Guinea. He received both the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and the American Defense Metal.
During his tour in Australia, he met and married the former Annie Cowan McDiarmid, formerly of Mannum, South Australia, who survives. They had celebrated 63 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Squire I. Kittle and wife, Mona, of Mill Creek, Janet M. McCloud and husband, Danny, of East Dailey, Robert W. Kittle and wife, Linda, of Warren, Ohio, Barbara A Kazulen and husband, Tony, of Uniontown, Pa., and Donald John Kittle and wife, Pam, of Alliance, Ohio. Also surviving are two sisters, Lenora Kidd and husband, Richard, of Pharr, Texas, and Betty Kimbrew and husband, Dennis, of Elkins; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Cecil Wilbert Kittle, John Elbert Kittle and Floyd Feaster; and six sisters, Emma Vivian Kittle Derricott, Geneva L. Kittle Schafer, Icie Fae Kittle, Anne Elizabeth Oetting, Reva Kittle Shannon and Rouy Kittle Pritt.
Mr. Kittle worked at Moore and Keppel as a timber cutter and worked at Labcraft in Beverly until his retirement. He loved to hunt and fish at his home place on Kittle Creek. He enjoyed carpentry work and made figurines and furniture for his children and grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. At 7 p.m. Wednesday, a service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bernard Teter officiating. Presentation of the U.S. flag will be made by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion of Elkins. At Mr. Kittle’s request, his remains will then be cremated. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, W.Va. 26520. Richard M. Kitzmiller
Richard M. Kitzmiller, 80, a resident of Buckhannon, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at his home in Buckhannon.
He was born Jan. 21, 1926, at Elk Garden, a son of the late Oscar H. Kitzmiller and Ozella Head Kitzmiller.
On Sept. 1, 1950, he was united in marriage to Beulah M. Racey Kitzmiller, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one son, Richard W. “Rick” Kitzmiller of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Tiffany Dawn Kitzmiller of Buckhannon; one brother, Cecil R. and wife, Betty Kitzmiller, of Parkersburg; two nieces, Carolyn and husband, George Kitzmiller, of Laurel, Md., and Esther and husband, William Evans, of Elk Garden; one nephew, Dana R. Kitzmiller of Pennsylvania; three great-nephews, two great-nieces and two great-great-nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Austin H. Kitzmiller and Clarence H. Kitzmiller; and two sisters, Ina M. Kitzmiller and Dorothy Streets.
He was a well tender for Columbia Gas Co. He attended Chapel Hill United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, a choir member and former lay speaker. He was a member of Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and Mt. Storm Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6735.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, at the funeral home with the Rev. Marguerite Kolitsch
Marguerite Kolitsch, 89, a resident of Philippi, passed away Friday, March 31, 2006, in Broaddus Hospital.
She was born March 9, 1917, at East Run, McClellan District in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Worthy A. and Ethel Pitts Hutson.
She was united in marriage June 19, 1956, to Anthony Louis Kolitsch, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Carrie Sue and husband, John Sell, of Fairmont; and one son, Louis Worthy and wife, Stephanie Kolitsch, both professors at the University of Tennessee in Martin, Tenn.
Mrs. Kolitsch was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Hutson.
Mrs. Kolitsch attended Bristol High School and graduated in 1933 at the age of 16. She graduated from Salem College in 1935 with a degree in elementary education and received her bachelor of arts degree in business and mathematics in 1937. Mrs Kolitsch taught in Preston, Marion, Lewis and Barbour counties with 32 years of service and retired from Philip Barbour High School in 1979. She loved teaching and all of her students as her own.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, April 5, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the service hour with the Rev. Orvis A. Koon
The Rev. Orvis Arnold Koon, 77, of Logan County and formerly of Buckhannon went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 26, 2006, after an extended illness. The Rev. Koon spent his last few months with his children.
He was born Aug. 7, 1928, at Queens, a son of the late Jessie L. and Elsie Lanham Koon.
He is survived by one son, Raymond (Phoeba) Koon of Logan County; four daughters. Naomi and husband, David Wren, of Jacksonville, Fla.; Twila and husband, Reather Gillman, Sheila and husband, Tom Craddock, and Tammy and husband, Kenny Jr. Fleming, all of Logan County. Eleven grandchildren, 15 stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren also survive. Two brothers survive, Virgil Koon of Buckhannon and Lenard and wife, Betty Koon, of Jacksonville, Fla. He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Bessie Koon, and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Davis Eugene “Bubby” Koon and Timothy Arnold Koon; one daughter, Sherry Lynn Chafin; granddaughter, Tabitha Lynn Keller; brothers, Shirley, Davis and Sterling Koon; and sisters, Gertrude Anderson, Evalene and Estlene Koon and Pauline Perry. He was also preceded in death by his former wives, Francine Simmons Browning and Margarette M. Kruszynski Koon.
Mr. Koon was a retired carpenter and retired from the Methodist ministries where he served 50 years. He was a member of the Independent United Brethren Church in Buckhannon. His favorite things in life were God, spending time with his family, laughing, joking, fishing and hunting. He spent most of his years ministering in various churches in West Virginia, Maryland and Kentucky.
Friends will be received at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 29, at 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Junior Harris and the Rev. Wilma Jean Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Lanham Cemetery at Queens. Rex Koon
Rex Koon, 87, of Bridgeport and formerly of Ellamore, passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, in Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born Oct. 10, 1919, at Cassity, a son of the late Freeman H. and Etta M. Goodwin Koon.
On Oct. 12, 1940, at Catlettsburg, Ky., he was married to Virgie Muriel Koon, who passed away Oct. 26, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Max and daughter-in-law, Wanda, of Suffolk, Va.; two daughters, Sandra Akemon of Westminster, S.C., and Madonna Armentrout of Bridgeport; one daughter-in-law, Linda Koon of Dunedin, Fla; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Koon; two brothers, Mack and Virgil Koon; and a half brother, Keith Hinkle.
He was a former owner and mechanic of Koon’s Gulf Station in Buckhannon. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and bowler and was a member of the Shriners, Masonic Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He attended Gertrude United Methodist Church of Ellamore and was a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Fanny M. Kosanic
Fanny Marie Kosanic, 77, formerly of Davis, who resided many years with her sister, Rose Mary, and following her death moved to the residence of her very special nephew, Bill Kosanic, and for the past four years has resided with her great-niece and nephew, Shannon and Tim Lindsey and son, Ian, of Beverly, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Elkins.
She was born June 21, 1928, at Davis, a daughter of the late John and Josephine Dolenc Kosanic.
She is survived by one sister, Helen Mears of Cleveland, Ohio; one stepbrother, Buddy Zordani of Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Johnny and Frank Kosanic; and four sisters, Josephine Burger, Elizabeth Zajac, Tilly Lantz and Rose Mary Kosanic.
Fanny was a homemaker who enjoyed helping her neighbors as much as she could. She enjoyed crocheting, walking, working in the yard and picking blueberries along the Blackwater River.
At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at Davis Cemetery with Fr. Timothy Grassi officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church, P.O. Box 300, Thomas, W.Va. 26292 or St. Brendan Catholic Church, P.O. Box 2005, Elkins, W.Va. 26241. Charles C. Krum
Sgt. 1st Class Charles Clayton Krum, 57, of Buckhannon, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, in Lathen, Germany.
On Oct. 13, 1948, he was born in Hammond, Ind., a son of the late Embert and June Talpas Krum.
He is survived by two sons, Reuben Krum of Buckhannon and Tommy Swiger of Clarksburg; two daughters, Melissa Gibson and husband, Gary of Indianapolis, Ind., and Racheal Krum of Buckhannon; two brothers, Mike and Mark Talpas, both of Terre Haute, Ind.; two sisters, Bonnie Gatton of Louisville, Ky., and Georgette Carrion of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren and one on the way; two stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebekah Krum.
Mr. Krum was a staff sergeant in the Army National Guard. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War and was highly decorated for his service. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church of Buckhannon, a member of the American Karate Association and the American Karate System.

Maude Elizabeth Kuykendall, 80, of Fort Seybert, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Va.

Ruby D. Kyle
Ruby D. Kyle, 86, a former resident of Route 1, Beverly, and a patient in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away Tuesday evening, June 20, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 26, 1919, at Beverly, a daughter of the late Guy Weese and the late Ora Edith Phillips Weese.
On March 18, 1940, she married Wilbur Kyle, who preceded her in death Nov. 23, 2004.
Surviving are a son, Donald Lloyd Kyle of Mill Creek; two daughters, Jo Ann Thompson of Waynesboro, Va., and Linda Collins of Mill Creek; a sister, Mabel Inners of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were an infant son, two brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Kyle was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.
