Ina O. Cade
Ms. Ina Ottalee Cade, 86, a former resident of the River Road in Belington and more recently a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home in Crystal Springs, departed this life at 8:30 p.m..Monday, July 10, 2006, in the nursing home. She had been in her usual health and death was unexpected.
She was born April 15, 1920, at Belington, the daughter of the late William Guy Cade and Amanda Vest Cade.
Ms. Cade had never married.
She is survived by one brother, Loren Cade of Monaca, Pa.; and her special niece, whom she raised, Linda Long of Belington. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.
Ms. Cade was preceded in death by four brothers, Benjamin, Robert, James, and William Cade.
She attended the schools of Barbour County, including the one room school at Concord, was a homemaker, and was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home, 210 Brandenburg St. in Belington today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Thursday until 11 a.m., the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Arden Beck and the Rev. Destry Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery near Belington. George L. Calain Jr.
George Lewis Calain Jr., 76, a resident of Faulkner Road, Bowden, passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 18, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was born Dec. 16, 1929, at Bowden, a son of the late George L. Calain Sr. and the late Estie Marie Tingler Calain.
He was married to Stella Ann Zahra Calain, who survives at Bowden.
Also surviving are two sons, Dennis Calain and wife, Patty, and Thomas Calain and wife, Cindy, all of Elkins; five brothers, John M. Calain and wife, Eliza, of East Dailey, Walter D. Calain and wife, Sharon, and Randolph G. Calain, all of Louisville, Ky., Donald R. Calain and Harold L. Calain and wife, Sue, all of Elkins; two sisters, Janet F. Baldassano and husband, Paul, and Linda L. Vance and husband, John R. Vance, all of Elkins; five grandchildren, Dennis Calain Jr. and wife, Crystal, of Temecula, Calif., Kenneth Calain and wife, Jill, of Breman, Ga., Christopher Calain of Clarksburg, Kathleen Zirkle and husband, Jason, of Mabie and Sarah Calain of Elkins; and eight great-grandchildren, Matthew Zirkle, Christian Calain, David Calain, Elizabeth Zirkle, Alexis Calain, Alexander Calain, Jessica Addison and Brent Addison, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Calain was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a tug boat captain for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Elkins Lodge No. 108 AF & AM, Randolph Chapter No. 74 Order of the Eastern Star, the Izaac Walton League and the Randolph County Senior Center.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. John M. Calain
John Marshall Calain, 72, a resident of Route 1, Beverly, the East Dailey community, departed this life Monday evening, April 3, 2006, at his home. He had been in declining health since September 2005.
He was born Saturday, Sept. 23, 1933, at Elkins, a son of the late George Lewis Calain Sr. and Estie Marie Tingler Calain.
On Sept. 5, 1959, at East Dailey, he was married to the former Eliza Norah Shaver, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, John Martin Calain of Elkins, two daughters, Kelly LeNae Channell and husband, Denver, and Lisa Marie Comer, all of East Dailey; four brothers, Walter D. Calain and wife, Sharon, and Randolph G. Calain, all of Louisville, Ky., Donald R. Calain and Harold L. Calain and wife, Sue, all of Elkins; two sisters, Janet F. Baldassano and husband, Paul, and Linda L. Vance and husband, John, all of Elkins; seven grandchildren, Joel, Aaron, Deirdre, Catrina, Paige, Alyssa, and Logan; one stepgranddaughter, Britney Barlow; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were one infant son, John Edward Calain; and two brothers, George Lewis Calain Jr. and Eli Montgomery Calain.
He attended the Chestnut Grove School at Bowden, Elkins High School and served with the U.S. Air Force as an airman first class during the Cold War. He was a welder for Bethlehem Steel and AIRCO welding of Baltimore, Md. He was a former welder for the Western Maryland Railroad and owned and operated Calain’s Welding Service, from which he retired. He welded the first goalpost and backstop at the Tygart Valley High School, had coached the first Labcraft Little League baseball team and was a past president of the athletic boosters club at Tygart Valley. He was an avid gardener, and his grandchildren were the love of his life.

Doris M. Carbaugh Stevens Calhoun, 87, of Petersburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at Grant County Nursing Home.

Robert P. Califf
Robert Pitts, “Ace” Califf, 44, a resident of Philippi, passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at his residence from a long battle with cancer.
He was born June 24, 1962, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins, a son of the late James W. Califf Sr. and Edith McCoy Califf.
Surviving are two brothers, David Califf of Pottsville, Pa., and John and wife, Judy Califf, of Philippi; two nephews, Chris Califf of Philippi and David Califf of Pottsville, Pa.; one great-niece, Hailey Califf of Pottsville, Pa.; a close friend, Barbara Smith; and cousins, Nancy McCoy Dougherty, her children, Pat and Rachel, Sally McCoy Proffitt and son, Cameron, the Rev. Francis McCoy of Norton, Va., and Pat McCoy of New Zealand.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James W. Califf Jr.; and cousin, Richard Jeffrey McCoy.
Robert was Methodist by faith, attended Philip Barbour High School and most recently was employed by PCM Inc. in power plant operations. Ace was a talented musician and enjoyed playing and listening to music. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Ace appreciated spending time with his family and friends.

Anthony S. Camara
Anthony Souza Camara, 80, a resident of Elkins, departed this life early Monday morning, April 3, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital. Death was unexpected.
He was born Monday, July 20, 1925, in Rhode Island, a son of the late Antonio Camara and Antoinetta Souza Camara.
On June 28, 1952, in New Jersey, he was married to the former Dorothy Guldner, who preceded him in death March 8, 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Elizabeth Camara-Jones of Elkins and Susan Lynn Camara-Phares of Morgantown; two brothers, Edward and John Camara; and three grandchildren, Conor Camara Phares, Joclyn Jane Phares and Ian Camara Jones.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife was one infant brother.
He attended the schools of New Jersey and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a graduate of Newark State Teachers College at Newark, N.J., was an industrial arts teacher for 40 years, served as past president of the Irvington Teachers Association of Irvington, N.J., and taught wood carving.

Ronald D. “Ron” Canfield, 83, a resident of Linda Lane in Elkins, where he had made his home with his daughter, Catherine Canfield, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006, at his residence. Death was sudden and unexpected.
Born June 10, 1922, at Montrose, he was the son of the late Alice B. and Effie B. Canfield.
Ron was formerly married to Opal Canfield Murphy, who survives.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy McCauley and Catherine Canfield, both of Elkins; three sons, Jerry Canfield of Leesburg, Va., Billy Canfield of Elkins and Gary Canfield of Ohio; two sisters, Lou Hart of Elkins and Izetta Arbogast of Circleville. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Kimberly S. Hamrick, Christine G. McCauley, Melissa A. Johnston, Peggy S. Woods, Jody L. McCauley, Amber M. Channel, Patricia and Amiee Canfield; eight great-grandchildren, Raymond Taylor, Robert Taylor, Hope Johnston, Tiffany McCauley, Dillon Woods, Hobie Woods, Isaac McCauley Koontz, Devon Channel; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Ron loved to play ball, hunt, fish and talk politics to anyone who would listen. He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed his time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all the lives he touched and will remain in their hearts forever.

Donald L. Caplinger
Donald Lee Caplinger, 85, of Pick Street, Clarksburg, passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, in United Hospital Center.
Mr. Caplinger was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a chief petty officer aboard the LST 272. He was employed with Beckwith Machinery, owned and operated his own coal truck, and was employed by Mountain Motor Express before retiring from Elmer G. Brake Inc. with 52 years of service. At the time of his death, Mr. Caplinger was employed at Ace Hardware in Bridgeport and owned and operated Don’s Garage in Clarksburg.
He was born Nov. 17, 1920, at Beverly, a son of the late Hoke S. and Lella Harper Caplinger.
On Dec. 22, 1946, he was married to Lois Bennett Caplinger, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Roger Lee Caplinger and his wife, Marsha, Rodney Kevin “Bud” Caplinger and Todd Gregory Caplinger, all of Clarksburg; three grandsons, Graham Caplinger of Coral Gables, Fla., Justin Caplinger of Tempe, Ariz., and Sean Caplinger of Copperas Cove, Texas; one granddaughter, Presley Marie Caplinger of Clarksburg; four great-grandchildren, Corey Caplinger, Sydnee Caplinger, Sean Caplinger and Julian Caplinger; one brother, Robert Caplinger and his wife, Helen, of Elkins; one sister, Mary Daniels and her husband, Tom, of Elkins; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Betty Hill of Akron, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wenrick of Louisiana, William Wenrick of Pennsylvania and Anne Lambert of Pennsylvania.

Helen Caplinger
Helen Caplinger, 79, a resident of Sunset Drive, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 13, 1927, at Beverly, a daughter of the late Morgan and Arthelia Kerens Helmick.
On June 24, 1946, she was married to Robert F. “Bob” Caplinger who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Charlotte Finelli of Tall Timbers, Md., and Barbara Benscoter of Union, Mo. Two sisters, Virginia Bosworth of Elkins and Wilda Westfall of Michigan; and two grandchildren, Denver Corley and Jessica Presken, also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Morgan Helmick Jr. and Woodrow Helmick; and three sisters, Madeline Campbell, Macil Burd and Louise Helmick.
Mrs. Caplinger was a graduate of Beverly High School. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a 30-year member of Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Golf Street Church of Christ.

Carolyn Sue Caputo, 60, a resident of Buckhannon, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, in Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center.
She was born April, 5, 1946, at Buckhannon, a daughter of Glenna L. Wilfong Tenney, who survives at Buckhannon.
On March 20, 1975, she was married to Dusty Edward Caputo, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are her stepfather, the Rev. Luther Bennie Tenney of Buckhannon; three sons, Larry James Caputo of Jacksonville, Fla., Carl Lee Caputo and wife, Lisa, of Ukiah, Calif., and Bill Cody Caputo and wife, Pat, of Michigan,; two daughters, Carol Elizabeth Britt and husband, Lawrence, of Washington, and Kil Choe Caputo of Dallas, Texas; four brothers, Merrill McCray of Jacksonville, Fla., Franklin McCray, Walter McCray of Cleveland, Ohio, and Danny McCray of Canton, Ohio; three sisters, Rosemary Thompson of Yakima, Wash., Betty Tsuldin of Paterson, N.J., and Helen Toth of Cleveland, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.
She was a housewife and attended Buckhannon Pentecostal Church of God and Faith Tabernacle. She was a member of the Ladies Aid of the church. She served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. She graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1965.

Edith I. Carman
Edith Irene (Haddix) Carman, 75, a resident of Route 1, Philippi, Wellington Heights, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 16, 1930, in Philippi, a daughter of the late Guy and Ruby (Lake) Haddix. She was united in marriage Aug. 12, 1959, to Albert G. Carman who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Christina and husband, Jeffrey Bryant, of Germantown, Md.; two sons, Robert Allan and wife, Virginia Carman, of Alpharetta, Ga. and Fredrick Michael Carman of Westminister, Colo.; one cousin reared as a sister, Barbara Spotloe of Philippi; three brothers, Ralph and wife, Barbara Haddix, of Palatka, Fla., Earl and wife, Betty Haddix, of Millboro, Va., and Guy and wife, Linda Haddix, of Stony Point, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Zachary, Victoria and Mikayla Carman.
Mrs. Carman was preceded in death by one son, Rodney Don Carman.
Mrs. Carman retired as an art teacher having taught in Ohio and West Virginia. She was a lifetime member of the Philippi Baptist Church. Mrs. Carman attended Alderson-Broaddus College and received a master’s degree in art education from West Virginia University.

Cathryn Carpenter
Cathryn Louise Carpenter, 52 years, a resident of Marlinton, departed this life April 27, 2006, at the Cleveland Clinic at Cleveland, Ohio, where she had been considered critical and on life support since April 14, 2006.
She was born March 18, 1954, a daughter of Frank W. Salisbury Sr. and Mary Kelley Salisbury of Monterville.
Cathy had resided in Marlinton since 1971, when she married Stewart Carpenter. They were blessed with two sons, Daniel Carpenter and Bradley Carpenter, both of Marlinton, and her pride and joy, 8-year-old granddaughter, Kailey Carpenter. Also surviving are one sister, Thelma Salisbury Carpenter, married to Stewart’s brother, William, Marlinton; two brothers, Frank Salisbury Jr. and Claybron Salisbury, both of Monterville where Cathy grew up; and several nieces and nephews.
She was especially fond of a niece, Brandy Carpenter, a nephew, Timmy Wiseman; and her best friend, Cathy Byers.
Preceding her in death besides her parents are her baby brother, James W. Salisbury.
She was a Methodist by faith and her interest in life was being a homemaker, good wife, loving mother and grandmother.
She was a receptionist at El Poca Motel at Marlinton for several years, attended Greenbrier Community College and was the first manager of the Rite Aid Pharmacy when it opened in Marlinton.
Since her lung transplant April 18, 2002, other serious health problems came about setting back her recovery. Above all, she kept her home and spirits up to live life to the fullest to enjoy her family.
Cathy was so loved and loved her family and wanted grief lessened and mourning shortened.
Her request for cremation was honored and there will be a private graveside service. In loving and fond memories, her family is planning a celebration of life memorial.

Kathleen Carpenter
Kathleen M. Carpenter, 89, a resident of Belington, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at her home.
She was born Feb. 18, 1917, at Alton, a daughter of the late Freeman and Mary Johns Zickefoose.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by seven sons, Arden Carpenter of Arizona, Wayne Carpenter of Buckhannon, James Carpenter and Roger Carpenter, both of Ellamore, Ralph Carpenter of Buckhannon, Lonzo Carpenter of Belington and Freeman Carpenter of Buckhannon; three daughters, Gertrude Neely of Charleston, Faye Rhodes of Tennessee and Mary Ann Rowan of Belington; 37 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lurene Tenney, Jo Ann Macher, both of Ohio, Donice Tenney of Buckhannon and Annabell Hoover of Tallmansville; one brother, Willard Zickefoose of Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoy Carpenter; two sons, John and Kecil; one daughter, Rosalie; and two brothers.
Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.
The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Donald L. Carr
Donald Louis Carr, 80, a resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home of Thomas, departed this life Thursday morning, Aug. 3, 2006, with his family at his side.
He was born Sunday, June 20, 1926, at Elk in the Dryfork area of Tucker County. He was the fourth child of the late Clifton Joseph and Mary Ethel Cooper Carr.
He was preceded in death by sister, Pauline B. Heater of Roanoke and Good Hope; and brothers, Roy A. Carr of Akron, Ohio, and Alfred L. Carr of Hambleton.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Joanne Mullennex of Parsons; and two sons, Daniel L. (and Teri) Carr of Ashland, Ky., and Jeffery J. (and Jennifer) Carr of Charlottesville, Va. He is also survived by four siblings, Harold S. Carr of Akron, Ohio, Velma A. Faller of Ridgely, Orville L. Carr of Thomas and Franklin J. Carr of Akron, Ohio. He was the proud grandfather, called “Pap,” of four grandchildren, Dustin L. Carr and Jason W. Carr of Ashland, Ky. and Miss Sidney C. Carr and Susannah C. Carr of Charlottesville, Va. He also had two stepgrandchildren, Travis (and Brittany) Barker and Miss Tiffany A. Barker, all of Ashland, Ky.; and one stepgreat- granddaughter, Brooklyn C. Barker of Ashland.
After graduating from Parsons High School in 1945, he was drafted into World War II. He was stationed at 3rd Army Headquarters in Germany. Upon return, he married Joanne Mullennex at Oakland, Md., on April 26, 1947, at Red House, Md. Not long after, they moved to the Canton-Barberton, Ohio area. They returned to Tucker County in 1956, living at Thomas. He worked for the Tucker County Board of Education, primarily as a school bus driver. In 1960, he and his family moved to Ashland, Ky., where he worked as a tobacco salesman for several years. For the next 20 years, he worked a variety of sales jobs. In the mid 1970s, he, wife Joanne, and son, Jeff, again returned to Tucker County and lived at Hambleton. He served as Tucker County Housing Coordinator for three years in the 1980s. He often found ways to provide service to the communities he lived in. In Kentucky, he was an auxiliary policeman, baseball coach, Cub Scout leader and was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. In Tucker County, he became an active and committed member of the Hendricks Ruritan Club. He served as Zone Governor and District Governor of the Upper West Virginia Ruritan for 1990. Another accomplishment, of which he was proud, was being a co-founder and then coordinator of the annual Jesse Anderson and Virginia (Carr) Carr family reunion, which commenced in 1969 and continues to the present. Lastly, he lead the effort to rebuild Bright’s Chapel at Elk, his childhood church, which had burned in 1978. In keeping with his spirit and memory, the family suggests that you provide an act of kindness or service to someone in need.

Hayward Carr
Hayward Carr, 82, a resident of Buckhannon, died at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2006, in Fairmont General Hospital at Fairmont.
He was born Oct. 6, 1923, at Anmoore, a son of the late Jim Carr and Mabel Carr Mace.
On June 27, 1979, he was married to Diana “Tiny” Warner Carr, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are three sons, Danny Carr of Lumberport, Eugene “Dickie” Carr of Woodstock, Md., and Michael Carr of Morgantown; three daughters, Susan Headley of Cypries, Texas, Bebbie Braman of New Braunfels, Texas, and Deanna Lamb of Cypries, Texas; one brother, Lee Roy Mace of West Milford; two sisters, Mrs. J.A. (Ruth) Callinghan and Mrs. Felix (Ethel) Veltri, both of Nutterfort, and Mrs. Orvil (Helen) Moore of Clarksburg; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one aunt, Cleona Cutright of Ellamore; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Harue Somaye Carr; two brothers, Junior Mace and Eugene Mace; and one sister, Mrs. Gerald (Iris) Bourne.
He was a truck driver for KSD Diesel and a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 and Fraternal Order of Eagles 4357. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1962 with 21 years of service during World War II and the Korean War.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Mary A. Carr
Mary Agnes Harr Carr, 94, a former resident of Sixteenth Street, Elkins and for the past several years a resident of Talbott Personal Care Home at Belington, departed this life Tuesday evening, June 27, 2006, in the nursing home. She had been in declining health.
She was born Monday, Sept. 11, 1911, at Canaan Valley, a daughter of the late Frank Harr and Carol Ann Kessner Harr.
On Nov. 29, 1933, she was married to Glenn Woodrow Carr, who preceded her in death on May 9, 1981.
She is survived by two sons, Robert G. Carr and wife, Ada, of Nichols, S.C. and Eugene F. Carr and wife, Vada, of Manassas Park, Va.; one sister, Virginia Smith of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her husband and parents were four brothers, Raymond “Buck” Harr, Emory “Pete” Harr, Charles Harr and Owen Harr; and two sisters, Mabel Cooper and Mildred Bandy.
She attended the schools of Tucker County, was a homemaker, and was a Methodist by faith. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, and she loved flowers.

Merl K. Carr
Mr. Merl Kenna Carr, 77, a resident of Montrose, passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 14, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born March 8, 1929, at Kerens, a son of the late Kenna and Dolly Raines Carr.
He was married to Marie Dorsey Carr who preceded him in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Carr Saunders of Hazlet, N.J.; two brothers, Fred Carr and Warren Carr of Ohio; four sisters, Jean Dean, Annie Mae Ashley and Audrey DeBolt all of Elkins and Sadie Smith of Oak Hill. Two grandchildren, Ashley and Christopher Saunders also survive.
Mr. Carr was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked in the mix and melt department of Anchor Glass of Cliffwood, N.J. prior to his retirement. He was a member of AARP.

Nora F. Carr
Nora Frances Summerfield Carr, 85, a resident of Heavner Acres, passed away at 9:37 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 1, 1921, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Lloyd Jennings Summerfield and Martha Amira Summerfield.
On March 19, 1938, at Elkins, she was married to Ernest Carr, who preceded her in death Feb. 10, 1984.
She is survived by two sons, Dale Carr of Hanover, Pa., and Jimmy Carr of Monkton, Md.; and one daughter, Mary Palmes of Baltimore, Md. Six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter also survive
One grandchild and several brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Carr was a homemaker and a member of Elkins Church of the Brethren.

Orville L. Carr
Orville Lee Carr, 72, of Thomas, passed away Oct. 9, 2006, as a result of a farming accident.
He was born Oct. 13, 1933, in Elk, a son of the late Clifton Joseph Carr and Mary Ethel Cooper Carr.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Vandevender Carr; three sons, Harry and Teresa of Thomas, Terry and Roxanna of Elkins, and Jimmy and Denise of Harrisonburg, Va.; two brothers, Harold and Frank Carr, both of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Thelma Fowler of Ridgely; six grandchildren, Moriah, Misty, Brandi, Lee Allan, Chelsey and Makenzie.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Alfred and Roy; and one sister, Pauline Heater.
Mr. Carr was retired from Cortland Acres Nursing Home as a maintenance worker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a life member of the NRA and was a Methodist by faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming.

Pieter W. Carvalho
Pieter Wyckoff Carvalho, 64, a resident of Clendenin, passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2006 at home following a short illness.
He was born Feb. 22, 1942, in New York City, the son of the late Curtis Bolton and Melba Wyckoff Carvalho.
Pieter is survived by his wife of 32 years, June Ward Carvalho of Clendenin; and one sister, Jennifer Carvalho of Boston, Mass. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Sandra Ward Wagner of Elyria, Ohio, and Barbara Ward Shipp and husband, Joseph Shipp, of Hartwood, Va.; beloved nieces, Christine Yancer, Denise Midgett, Lori Lane, Andora Trickett; and two very special nephews, Eric Miles Wagner and Joseph Ward Trickett.
Pieter was a graduate of Cornell University in the class of 1963. Until his illness, he worked for LRM, LLC of Crossroads, where he did land title research He was a former resident of Elkins and had been an active member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he served as and elder and on many committees.

Nellie M. Carver
Nellie Marie Zirkle Carver, 76, a resident of Lorain, Ohio, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2006, in EMH Regional Medical Center at Elyria, Ohio.
She was born April 13, 1930, at Montrose and raised in Randolph County. Lorain had been her home for 51 years.
Nellie was a homemaker. She was a member of Amherst Church of the Nazarene, where she served in the senior adult ministry. She enjoyed canning food and bowling. She loved children and served many families in the area as a babysitter, later caring for the children of her former charges.
Survivors include her sons, Michael Duane Carver and Melvin Dean Carver, both of Lorain, Ohio, and Larry Neal Carver of West Virginia; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brothers, Daniel “Eddie” Zirkle of West Virginia, Lloyd Jack Zirkle of Medina, Ohio, Leon Zirkle of Elkins, Raymond Zirkle of Winnetka, Calif., James Zirkle and Donnie Zirkle, both of Mabie; and sisters, Betty Sturdivent of Mabie, Bertie Stone of Thornton, Artie Shiflett of Elkins and Jean Simmons of Elyria, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Franklin D. Carver on April 26, 1983; her parents, Daniel Zirkle in 1994 and Emily Shreve Zirkle in 1984; and her brother and sister, Andrew and Edith Zirkle in 1949.

Mary Agnes Casto, 82, a resident of Maple Avenue, Philippi, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, in Broaddus Hospital emergency room.
She was born Aug. 26, 1924, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Edward F. and Dottie A. (Wilmoth) Moats.
She was united in marriage April 18, 1958, to William D. Casto, who preceded her in death Dec. 2, 1995.
Mrs. Casto is survived by several cousins.
Mrs. Casto was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Moats and Eugene L. “Mike” Moats.
Mrs. Casto was a graduate of Philippi High School with the class of 1943. She was a member of Chapter 41 Order of the Eastern Star and was a Protestant by faith.

William E. Cavanaugh III
William Edward Cavanaugh III, 58, of Chantilly, Va., and formerly of Thomas, passed away peacefully Aug. 10, 2006, following a brief battle with cancer at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Chantilly, Va.
He was born April 5, 1948, in McKeesport, Pa., a son of the late William Edward Cavanaugh Jr. and Evelyn Gazelle Topper Cavanaugh.
He is survived by his wife, Sharyn Cosner Cavanaugh, and one son, William Edward Cavanaugh IV, of Chantilly, Va.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Post 22.

Marvin E. Caynor
Marvin Eugene Caynor, 70, a resident of Ellamore, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Buckhannon under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
He was born Aug. 18, 1935, at Gormley, a son of the late Walter Caynor and Donice Dawson Caynor.
On June 15, 1957, he was married to Betty L. Simons Caynor, who survives.
Also surviving are two granddaughters, Kelly Jean Mason and husband, Lee, of Box Springs, Ga., and Tiffany Casto and husband, Billy, of Crawford; one great-grandson, Johnathon Mason of Box Springs, Ga.; three great-granddaughters, Tomika Casto, Latisha Casto and Franchesca Casto, all of Crawford; and three sisters, Mary Black of Wooster, Ohio, Ruby West of Taylor, Mich., and Vernie Shockley of Newark, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Francis Eugene “Pete” Caynor; and three brothers, Clifford Caynor, Leo Caynor and Thurman Earl Caynor.
He was a heavy equipment operator.

Bruce G. Chadwick
Bruce Goodhue Chadwick, 67, of 47647 Tomahawk Drive, Negley, Ohio, passed away in his sleep Tuesday morning, Feb. 15, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 13, 1938, at Newington, Conn., the son of Alan and Mary Goodhue Chadwick.
He had lived in Negley for the last 32 years, where he was the owner-operator of Chad’s Vinyl and Windshield Repair after serving as manager of Montgomery Ward stores throughout Pennsylvania for many years. A graduate of Davis & Elkins College with the class of 1961, he was a member of the U.S. Air Force ROTC program and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was an avid fisherman, favoring bass.
He is survived by his wife, Paula “Polly” Lord Chadwick, formerly of Valley Bend, whom he married Dec. 2, 1961; two sons, Alan of Frisco, Texas, and Kendall and Melissa of Ravenna, Ohio; a daughter, Karin of New York, N.Y.; a grandson, Austin, 11, of Frisco, Texas; a sister of S. Glastonbury, Conn; a niece of Glastonbury, Conn; and a nephew of Alaska.
Services were conducted Feb. 18 at Warrick-Krummer Funeral Home in Columbiana, Ohio. From 15 Mar 2006.

Sarah E. Chamberlain
Sarah Elizabeth Chamberlain, 85, a resident of Buckhannon, passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at her home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice of Buckhannon.
She was born Feb. 16, 1920, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a daughter of the late Daniel James Rudasill and Mary Laidley Rudasill.
She was united in marriage on May 22, 1942, to Dr. Robert L. Chamberlain who survives at Buckhannon. Also surviving are two sons, Richard Allen and wife, Susan K. Elva M Benner Champ, 81, a resident of Hegins, Pa., and formerly of Petersburg, died Jan. 10, 2006, in Select Speciality Hospital at Camp Hill, Pa.
She was born July 18, 1924, at Onego, a daughter of the late Rhine W. Benner and Anna Stoudt Benner.
She was married for 60 years to Earl H. Champ, who preceded her in death Jan. 24, 2005.
She is survived by two daughters, Viola Champ of Petersburg and Shirley Mast of Amelia, Va.; two sons, Stanley Champ of Hegins, Pa., and Larry Champ of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; 24 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; one sister, Evelyn Swartzentruber of Delaware; and two brothers, Millard Benner of Delaware and Dan Benner of Virginia.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Paul Champ; one daughter, Ardella Horst; two brothers, Timothy Benner and James Benner; and one sister, Rhonda Hertzler.
She was a homemaker and attended Hegins Valley Mennonite Church.

Thomas Channell Jr.
Thomas Lee Channell Jr., 49, a resident of Mabie, passed away at 4:01 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, in Preston Memorial Hospital, due to injuries sustained in a mining accident.
He was born Dec. 22, 1956, at Elkins, a son of Phyllis George Channell Zirkle of Mabie and the late Thomas Lee Channell Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Christina Beard Channell of Mabie; one son, Gordon Lee Channell and wife, Donna, of Elkins; one stepson, Shane Jones at home; and three daughters, Chelsea Channell at home, Susan Bohon and husband, Charlie, of Junior and Buffy Chenoweth and husband, Jonathon, of Elkins. Also surviving are one sister, Julia Lynn Corley and husband, Montie, of Mabie; three grandchildren, Dakota Bohon, Justin and Katie Chenoweth; and two stepgrandchildren, Jacob and Melody Ricucci. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
Tom was proud to be a coal miner. He had worked as a miner for the past 27 years and was working at the Whitetail Mine at Preston County at the time of his death. He was a loving father and husband who enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing, camping and motorcycle riding. He was a member of Friends of Coal.

Doris I. Cheesman
Doris Ione Cheesman, 89, of Elkins, formerly of Charleston, passed away in Elkins Colonial Place Tuesday morning, Dec. 26, 2006.
Doris was born in Brookville, Pa., a daughter of the late Louis and Maude Alverson Cheesman.
She graduated from Charleston High School and West Virginia University and received her master’s degree from Columbia University. Doris taught biology and home economics at Keyser, Woodrow Wilson Junior High and Stonewall Jackson High School. She was a student council advisor and took many students to state and national conferences. She assisted with the Rhododendron Girls State for many years and was director for two years.
Doris chaperoned Miss West Virginia during the Centennial Year Celebration. She was a member of Boyd Memorial Christian Church where she sang in the choir. She was a founder and mainstay of the Alley Cats Exercise Group that met at the church.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Carl “Randy” Moore and wife, Ruth, of Elkins, Luanna Moore of Elkins, Louis Moore and wife, Victoria, of High Bridge, N.J., Maude Moore of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Donald Moore of Elkins; great-nieces and great-nephews, Amy Moore of Cincinnati, Ohio, Christopher Moore of Los Angeles, Calif., Alexandra Ciceri of Farmington Hills, Mich., Michael Ciceri of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Anna Moore of Cincinnati. She was born May 17, 1958, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Charles Randall Chenoweth Sr. and Fannie Elizabeth Jones Chenoweth, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are one son, Jason Chenoweth of Elkins; a brother, Randy Chenoweth of Beverly; two aunts, Virgie Satterfield and Lucille Vanscoy, both of Elkins; two uncles, James Jones of El Paso, Texas, and Arthur Jones of Aurora, Colo. Three nieces, Amanda, Jessica and Katelyn, also survive.
Also preceding her in death was an uncle, William Chenoweth.
Jeanie attended the schools of Randolph County, attended Glenville State College and was a self-employed seamstress for many years and also performed alterations for Peter Pan Cleaners. She was an active member of Beverly United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, choir director, pianist and a member of United Methodist Women serving as an officer at the local and district level.
At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Thurman Chewning
Thurman Ellis Chewning, 91, a resident of East Dailey, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at his home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1915, at Cassidy, a son of Oscar and Rita Herron Chewning.
On Sept. 1, 1950, he was married to the former Mona Dick, who survives at East Dailey.
Also surviving are their three sons, Charles E. Chewning and wife, Rhonda, of East Dailey, Thomas Chewning and wife, Alice, of Denver, Colo., and Denver Chewning at home. One grandson, Jason Chewning, also survives.
He was the last surviving member of eight children. Preceding him in death were Ruby Linger, Orval Chewning, Aretha Ward, Ola Graham, Gerald Chewning, Agnes Poling and Loyal Chewning.
Mr. Chewning entered the U.S. Army on June 23, 1943, and was a member of the 314th Field Artillery Battalion, 80th Blue Ridge Mountain Division. He served in the European Theater, landing on Utah Beach and participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He received many metals for his service to his country, being discharged Dec. 4, 1945. He was a member of Valley Bend Presbyterian Church, where he held many offices, including elder, trustee, treasurer and Sunday school superintendent. He was a founding board member of Tyrand Cooperative Ministries, where he held the office of treasurer. He was trustee and past treasurer of Greenwood Cemetery and a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He worked 12 years for Three Fork Coal Co. before entering the service. He also worked for several years for Moore and Kepple Lumber Co. and Moore Electric. He retired from Lab Craft in 1980 with 20 years of service and was the past treasurer for the local union. Since retirement, he enjoyed gardening, working with wood and family.

Helen Marie Chipps, 79, a resident of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital at Weston.
She was born March 24, 1927, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Lutie Ward and Bessie Westfall Ward.
On Oct. 27, 1957, she was married to Cecil Chipps, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one son, David Chipps and wife, Cathy, of Buckhannon; one daughter, Debbie Shapiro of Buckhannon; three granddaughters, Kim Chipps, Kari Chipps and Brittany Shapiro, all of Buckhannon; one grandson, Chris Chipps of Buckhannon; and one sister, Evelyn Nixon of Leesburg, Fla.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Mavadell Nicholas, Edith Trani, Mary Jarvis and Ruby Wettencamp; and one brother, Pete Ward.
She was a secretary for West Virginia Department of Highways and attended First United Methodist Church.

On Nov. 1, 1941, she was married to Dale D. Chipps Sr., who survives. They had celebrated 64 years of marriage.

She had worked for the Randolph County Courthouse, as a secretary for the Western Maryland Railroad and as a field representative for the West Virginia Department of Labor. She was a member of the Kerens Rebekah Lodge 292, the Eastern Star at Washington, D.C., the Farm Woman’s Club and the Randolph County Democratic Woman’s Club, which named her Randolph County Democrat Women of the Year. She was a lifetime member of the former Hart Chapel United Methodist Church at Kerens.

William L. Chisolm
William Lee “Flea” Chisolm, 47, a resident of Route 3, Belington, the Harding community, departed this life Tuesday evening, Aug. 29, 2006, at his home. He had been in declining health although death was unexpected.
He was born Thursday, Jan. 29, 1959, at Elkins, a son of Robert Robal Chisolm, who survives at Harding and the late Lillian Jenkins Chisolm.
On Jan. 24, 1981, at Elkins, he was married to the former Shirley Jean Dalton, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, William Michael “Mike” Chisolm of Harding and Christopher Allen Chisolm of Elkins; one brother, Jerry Lawrence Chisolm of Harding; two nephews, Frank Kennedy and Jared Collins; and one niece Carrie Collins.
He was a graduate of Coalton High School with the class of 1979 and was a coal miner for International Coal Group. He was an avid outdoorsman and a sport enthusiast.
Private graveside services will be Friday, Sept. 1, at Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate and interment will follow. Creola M. Clark
Creola McTheny Clark, of Bessemer City, N.C., passed away in Carver Living Center in Durham, N.C., Aug. 20, 2006, after a long illness.
She was born March 28, 1919, at Gassaway, a daughter of Luther D. and Lulu Mae McTheny, who preceded her in death.
She was married to S.B. Clark Jr. for 59 years. He proceeded her in death in 1997.
Mrs. Clark’s immediate survivors are a son, Charles W. Clark and wife, Norma, and daughter Elizabeth Mae Clark of Durham, N.C., and a daughter, Sharon Jean Clark of Belington. She also has two grandchildren, Kathryn Morris and husband, Kenneth, of Kittrell, N.C., and Samuel Clark and wife, Mary Lou, of Indian Trail, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Samuel and Randall Clark and Jessica Morris.
Creola was a homemaker and practiced nursing several years while living in Winfield, before moving to Bessemer City. She was a Protestant by faith.

Elizabeth M. Clark
Elizabeth Mae “Bettie” Clark, 65, of Durham, N.C., passed away in Pettigrew Rehabilitation Center in Durham, N.C., Dec. 2, 2006, after a long illness.
She was born Sept. 2, 1941, in Charleston, daughter of S. B. and Creola Clark, both of whom preceded her in death.
“Bettie” lived most of her life with her parents in Charleston, Winfield and Bessemer City, N.C., before moving to Durham, N.C. She graduated from Winfield High School with the class of 1961. She was a lifelong disciple of Christ, blessing many people and always gave God the praise. While living at Winfield, she was a member of Pine Grove Church of Christ, Teays Valley.
She is survived by one brother, Charles W. Clark and wife, Norma, of Durham, N.C.; one sister, Sharon Jean Clark of Belington; one niece, Kathryn Morris and husband, Kenneth, and their daughter, Jessica, of Kittrell, N.C.; one nephew, Samuel and wife, Mary Lou, and their sons, Samuel and Randall, of Indian Fork, N.C.

She was born Jan. 16, 1916, in Upshur County, the daughter of the late Winfred Coleman Alkire and Nola R. Powers Alkire.
Surviving are five nephews, Richard P. Alkire of Dayton, Ohio, Larry Allen Alkire of French Creek, William David Alkire of Buckhannon, Robert Ray Alkire of Marlinton and Glen Roger Alkire of French Creek; and two nieces, Ellen Alkire Reuss and Mary Anne Alkire Jacobus, both of French Creek.
Also preceding her in death were her ex-husband, Ralph Clark; and two brothers, W.C. “Bud” Alkire and Thurman Alkire.
In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Clark had an extensive career in government and business. After graduating from Upshur County High School, Tennerton Branch and the West Virginia Business College at Clarksburg, she worked for a number of years as the private secretary for Francis Perkins at the U.S. Department of Labor at Washington, D.C. She subsequently worked as office manager for C&R Lumber Co. and Appalachian Woods at Buckhannon; bookkeeper for Broadia’s Clothing Store and the Veteran”s Administration Hospital at Clarksburg; and as secretary for the plant manager at Moore Business Forms at Buckhannon. Mrs. Clark was a member of Center Chapel Church of French Creek and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
At the request of Mrs. Clark, there will be no public viewing and she will be cremated. Private services will be conducted by the Rev. Dan Lowther. Interment will take place in Center Chapel Church Cemetery at French Creek. From 3 Apr 2006.

Mildred S. Clark
Mildred S. Clark, 86, a resident of Chalk Hill, Pa., died unexpectedly Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2006, in Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown.
She was born May 7, 1920, at Louisville, Ky., a daughter of the late Wilson P. And Blanche A. Shortridge, and named Rhoda Mildred Shortridge.
She was married to the late Thomas G. Clark for more than 61 years. They were the parents of five sons.
She is survived by her fiancee, Richard W. Lee of Fairmont; five sons; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three daughters-in-law; and one granddaughter-in-law. Sons and their families are Conrad W. Clark and Muriel Akamatsu of Bronson, Fla.; Timothy R. Clark and Rita Clark, their son, Joseph G. Clark and his wife, Angie Clark and children, Ethan G. Clark and Sophie N. Clark and their daughter, Lora A. Clark, all of Raleigh, N.C.; Guy Allen Clark and Jane S. Clark and their sons, Bennet G. Clark and Christian R. Clark of Chalk Hill, Pa.; Bruce S. Clark of Morgantown and his children, Wilson T. Clark and Emily A. Clark of Hilton Head, S.C.; Daniel Q. Clark of Charlottesville, Va. She is also survived by her niece, Stephanie Brossia of Port Clinton, Ohio and her family as well as her late husband’s three sisters and their families.
Mrs. Clark retired as a librarian, having worked at West Virginia University in the medical collection and the general collection. She had also worked at the Morgantown Public Library and the Uniontown Public Library as the children’s and local history librarian. Mrs. Clark graduated from West Virginia University and studied at the University of Minnesota and Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.
Friends will be received at Donald R. Crawford Funeral Home at Farmington, Pa. today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m to 9 p.m., and Saturday at the Mt. Charles Cleavenger
Charles Cleavenger, 74, of Clarksburg, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at the Veterans Administration hospital.
Charles is survived by his four sons, Phillip Cleavenger of Versailles, Ind., Marc Cleavenger of French Creek, David Cleavenger and Michael Cleavenger, both of Texas; and three grandchildren, Shakiya and Jordan Cleavenger and Lucus Phillips, all of Buckhannon.
Charlie joined the U.S. Army in 1952, served eight years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He began working for Chrysler Corp. and continued until 1980. Charlie retired from Valley Green apartments in 1992.
Charlie was very loved by many people and he wanted to help everyone he came in contact with. This world has lost a great man and a great soldier.
Memorial services will be at 4:30 p.m. today at New Beginnings Ministries on Vicksburg Road, across from the bowling alley. The speaker will be John Elbert. From 23 Feb 2006.

Etta Cleavenger
Etta O’Brien Cleavenger, 99, a resident of Volga, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, in Broaddus Hospital.
Mrs. Cleavenger was born March 7, 1906, at Lillian in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Anthony and Isetta Ellen (Criss) O’Brien and her late foster mother, Nancy Jane Overfield Lantz Criss.
Mrs. Cleavenger was united in marriage Dec. 22, 1936 to Goin L. Cleavenger, who preceded her in death Sept. 5, 1975.
Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Lee (Cleavenger) and husband, Lloyd Zetty, of Volga; one son Larry G. Jr. and wife, Mary Cleavenger, of Volga; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Cleavenger was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one infant sister, Stella; two sisters, Mary and Edna; one foster brother, Grant (Lemley) Lantz; and one son, Alva Charles Cleavenger. Mrs Cleavenger was a private family housekeeper, was an employee of Barbour Produce in Philippi and was a homemaker. Mrs. Cleavenger was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, where she attended until her death. Mrs. Cleavenger’s grandfather, Henry Criss, donated the land and helped build the Criss (Mt. Vernon) Church.

Mary C. Click
Mary C. Click, 91, of Fairmont and formerly of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, in Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown.
She was born Aug. 18, 1915, at Belington, a daughter of the late William C. Cade and Lora Maude Yoakum Cade.
On July 25, 1940, she was married to James Arthur Click, who preceded her in death Feb. 5, 1955.
Surviving are one daughter, Jill Click Starkey and husband, Gene, of Fairmont; two granddaughters, Robin Phillips of Cape Canaveral, Fla., and Jamie Phillips of Grantsville, Md.; three nephews, Dr. William Hall of Palatine, Ill., Phillip Aylestock and James Marson of Buckhannon; three nieces, Marie Hall of Palatine, Ill., Betty Clayton of Florida and Marie Hill of North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Marson of Buckhannon; and one great-nephew, Art Hall of Chicago, Ill.
Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Virginia C. Harris and Dorothy Aylestock; and one sister-in-law, Mertie Click.
She was a secretary at West Virginia Wesleyan College. She attended First Methodist Church of Buckhannon and was a 50-year member of Buckhannon Chapter 18 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Teter Community Education Outreach Society, WVWC Emeritus Club, past Mother Advisor Order of the Rainbow Girls, AARP and St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary.

Donald Clingerman
Donald George Clingerman, 75, a lifelong resident of Elkins and for the past two years a resident of Harding, where he made his home with his sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Ervin Cain, departed this life Tuesday morning, Aug. 29, 2006, at his home. He had been in declining health for the past two years.
He was born Saturday, April 25, 1931, at Elkins, a son of the late Robert R. Clingerman and Carrie R. Tenney Clingerman.
Surviving are one son, Michael; three sisters, Rebecca Cain and husband, Ervin, of Harding, Evangeline Cain and husband, Robert, of Elkins and Juanita Cross and husband, Darl, of Ripley; a sister-in-law, Vada Johnson Clingerman of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his former wife and friend, Louise Raines; and three brothers, Edward, Eugene and Robert R. Clingerman Jr.
He attended the schools of Randolph County, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as a private first class with the U.S. Army from April 9, 1952, to May 1, 1954. He was an employee of the former Tygart Block Co. of Elkins and the former Bata Shoe Factory at Beverly. He was a member of Tygarts Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, the former Elkins Moose Lodge 375, the Moose Legion 52, and the Aerie 2344, Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a Protestant by faith.
Mr. Clingerman’s request for cremation was honored. A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date. Ruby K. Coberly
Ruby Kathaleen Heltzel Coberly, 75, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Tuesday evening, Nov. 28, 2006, at her home.
She was born Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1931, at Job, a daughter of the late Harry Roscoe Heltzel and Hazel Hester Day Heltzel.
On July 18, 1953, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Herbert McKinley Coberly who preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 2005.
Surviving her are two sons, Herbert Michael Coberly and wife, Belinda “Binky,” of Elkins and Thomas Gregory Coberly and wife, Linda, also of Elkins; four brothers, William G. “Bill” Heltzel and wife, Carolyn, of Richwood, Harry R. “June” Heltzel Jr. and wife, Sally, of Bristol, Va., Warden W. “Ward” Heltzel and wife, Letha, of Milan, Ohio, and John W. Heltzel of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; two sisters, Wanda Lee Cunningham of Mt. Sydney, Va., and Joy Sue Rayford of Akron, Ohio; three grandchildren, Heath Michael Coberly and Jon Paul Calain, both of Elkins, and Tessa Nicole Randolph and husband, Chris, of Greensboro, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Kiley Calain of Elkins.
She attended Harman School and graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1949. She had worked for G.C. Murphy Co. and as operator for the C&P Telephone Co. for more than 27 years. She was the last operator to work the switchboard in Elkins in 1977.
She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, had served as a Cub Scout den mother and was a hard working mother. She was a Protestant by faith.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friends may also call on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. George L. Cochran
George Lincoln Cochran, 81, a resident of Diana, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at his home.
He was born Friday, Oct. 31, 1924, a son of the late Porter M. Cochran and Mille Jane (Arthur) Cochran.
Mr. Cochran is survived by his wife, Patricia (Hall) Cochran of Diana; two sons, Steve P. Cochran of Wyandotte, Mich., and and Jeff and wife, Karen Cochran, of Century; two daughters, Susan and husband, Walter Gardner, of Lincoln, Neb., and Rebecca Kaurich of Freeport, Ohio; a sister, Patty MalQuist of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren, Adam and wife, Kerri Kaurich, Adrienne and husband, Steve Cook, Jessica Gardner, Elizabeth Gardner, Caleb Melaney and Cassandra Melaney; and nine great-grandchildren, Sadie, Wesley, Andrea and Allen Kaurich, Zoee and Ivee Cook, and Austin, McKenzie and Gabrielle Melaney.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Cochran; five brothers, Virgil, Clyde, Claremont, Carl and Jack Cochran; and three sisters, Hazel Given, Macel Cochran and Annabell Hayes.
Mr. Cochran was a U.S. Navy seaman first class veteran of World War II serving on the USS Annurendle in North Africa, Sicily and Normandy. He also served in the Pacific on the USS Mississippi when it was hit by a Japanese kamikaze.
Mr. Cochran was an American Sunday School Union missionary from 1957-1969. He served as missionary to rural Sutherland, Neb., and Winterville, Ohio, driving up to 100 miles to church. He directed youth camps leading hundreds of youth to Christ, dedicating his life to youth through Bible schools and camps. Mr. Cochran served with the Methodist conference in Mingo, Jarvisville, Jane Lew, North Sutton and Webster Springs charges. He was a dedicated pastor, visiting many in the entire area. He was an avid runner, poet and loved music and playing his harmonica. Mr. Cochran was also a student and interpreter of the Bible spending his time in the study of God’s word. He authored several books including, “Thoughts of a Mountain Preacher,” “The Sheeps Own Story of the Twenty Third Psalm,” and “The Church: God’s Glorious Work on Earth.”
Mr. Cochran was a minister and coal miner.
Family and friends will be received today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Dodd and Reed Funeral Home at 155 McGraw Ave. in Webster Springs. Jean Cochran
Jean Cochran, 67, of Route 6, Buckhannon, the Stony Run Road, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at her home.
She was born Feb. 18, 1939, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Ray and Carol Loudin McKisic.
She was united in marriage July 25, 1959, to Kyle Cochran, who survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three brothers, Max and wife, Carol McKisic, and Joe and wife, Martha McKisic, all of Buckhannon, and Roger McKisic of Delaware, Ohio.
Jean was a 1957 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School, the Tennerton Division. She was a past worthy matron of the Buckhannon Chapter 18 Order of the Eastern Star.

Jeffrey W. Cochran II
Jeffrey W. Cochran II, 18, a resident of Buckhannon, went to his new home Wednesday, June 14, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.
He was born June 20, 1987, at Weston, a son of Jeffrey W. Cochran I and Karen Mooring Cochran of Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one sister, Bethaney Michelle Cochran of Buckhannon; two brothers, William Scott Cochran and Jonathan David Cochran of Buckhannon; maternal grandparents, the Rev. William and Verlie Mooring of Buckhannon; paternal grandparents, Waldo and Martha Cochran of Lorentz; and several aunts, uncles and cousins, who he loved.
He was preceded in death by one uncle, William Frank Mooring II.
He was a rig hand for Waco Oil & Gas. He was a member of New Life Tabernacle and a 2004 graduate of Fred Eberle Technical Center. He was an avid hunter, loved to go muddin’ and loved a good Chevy truck.

Marguerite Cochran
Marguerite “Rita” Cochran, 93, a resident of Maple Avenue in Philippi and a former resident of Century, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2006, in Broaddus Hospital.
She was born March 13, 1912, at Century No. 1, a daughter of the late Mike and Clara Jane Dobson Spotloe.
She was united in marriage April 16, 1935 to Fay Cochran, who preceded her in death Aug. 4, 1976.
Surviving are two sisters, Pauline Spotloe Prutsok of Summersville and Cathryn Spotloe of Century No. 1; two brothers, Mike Spotloe Jr. of Philippi and David Spotloe of Grafton; and nieces and nephews, Gloria Dant, Bill, Gina, Brittany and Danielle McCallum, Rick McCallum, Pete, Robin, Camilla and Robbie Robinson, Becky, Randy, Erica and Dylan Shaffer, Tara and Jim Whetsel, Sonya, Chris, Logan and Izabela Stahl, Anthony, Janie, Haleigh and Zachary Smith, Judy and Jim Kelley, Debbie, Crysta and Ambre Hall, Dave, David, Mary Jo, Liam and Damon Cochran, Rachael, Mark, Gia, Zarek and Broden Domenico, Jerry, Pam and Nicole Cochran, Mike, Michael, Natalie, Austin, Makenia and Jake Cochran, “T,” Amy and Sam Cochran, Gary, Donna, Gary and Shane Cochran, Traci, Casey and Aron Golden and Lori, Phil, Katie, Andrew and Brady Wagner.
Mrs. Cochran was preceded in death by four sisters, Madelyn Humphreys, Lorina Kines, Isora Kelley and Minnie Payne; four brothers, Perry, Guy, Edward and Leonard Spotloe; and two nieces, Donna Cochran Smith and Jen Cochran Robinson.
Mrs. Cochran worked as an office clerk for the Division of Highways, Barbour County Sheriff’s Office and Barbour County Health Department. Mrs. Cochran was a member of Crim United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending countless hours in her garden.

Robert L. Cochran
Robert Landon “Bob” Cochran, 70, passed away Saturday morning Nov. 4, 2006, at his residence on South Henry Avenue in Elkins. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected. Bob was born at Diana in Webster County June 9, 1936. He was the son of Robert R. Cochran and Bertha Carpenter Cochran, who preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death was his wife, Carolyn Forman Cochran in May 2005.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Lori Ann Cochran of Elkins. Also surviving are his sister, Betty Jane Skidmore; two nephews, John and James Skidmore; and one niece, Joyce Birley of Madison.
Bob graduated from Webster Springs High School then joined the U.S. Air Force. Following his service in the Air Force, Bob attended Davis & Elkins College where he was on the football team. Upon graduating from D&E, Bob taught biology at Webster Springs High School. Bob met Carolyn Forman Cochran in Webster County and they married on May 31, 1959. Their daughter Lori Ann Cochran was born in 1964. That same year, Bob began working for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The family moved to Elkins in 1966 where they have lived since. In 2001, Bob retired from the Department of Health and Human Resources as the community services manager for the Randolph/Tucker District in Elkins.
Bob Cochran valued the importance of friendship, community and civic involvement. He was dedicated to the Elkins community where he served as a board member for both Meals on Wheels and the Randolph County Senior Center. He was also affiliated with the Mountaineer Food Bank and the Kiwanis Club in Elkins. Bob was a proud member of the American Legion Post 29 where his involvement ranged from past commander and chairman of the board to most recently serving on the honor guard. Bob also enjoyed the outdoors and had many close friends who shared his love of fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Cheat Mountain Surf Fishing Association and enjoyed 30 years of hunting in Silica with many friends. Vacations and weekends at Deep Creek Lake in Maryland with family and friends were an important part of Bob, Carolyn and Lori’s life.

Joe W. Coffman
Joe Wade Coffman, 78, of French Creek, went to be with the Lord Monday, Feb. 13, 2006.
He was born April 28, 1927, in Lewis County, a son of the late Myron and Laone Moore Coffman.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Dawson Coffman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Wade Coffman Jr. and wife, Linda, and David Harrington Coffman and wife, Sandra; four grandsons, Jeff and wife, Cassie Coffman, Patrick and wife, June Coffman, Michael and wife, Amy Coffman and Randall and wife, Megan Coffman; and four great-grandchildren, Cori, Lexi, Clair and Evan.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sally and Cynthia Coffman; and one brother, Myron “Sampy” Coffman.
Joe was a Baptist by faith and belonged to the Rock Cave Independent Baptist Church. He was retired from the coal mines after 40 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He enjoyed his great-grandchildren.

Ancil E. Cogar, 77, of Route 2, French Creek, died peacefully at his home Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, with his family by his side.
He was born April 8, 1929, in Webster County, a son of the late Roy and Iva Brooks Cogar.
He was united in marriage Dec. 29, 1951, to Sylvania “Toots” Cogar, who survives.
He is survived by four daughters, Susan Cogar and companion, Keith Mace, of Snowshoe, Sallie Mathess and husband, Joe, of Coxs Mill, Linda Helmick and husband, Mike, of Morgantown and Tracy Cogar and companion, Byron McVay, of Buckhannon; two sons, Ancil Junior Cogar and wife, Geneva, of French Creek and Marty Cogar and wife, Beverly, of Blackstone, Va.; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. Also surviving are two sisters, Kathleen McCoy of Webster Springs and Geraldine Hamrick of Martinsburg.
He was preceded in death by one son, Darren; one daughter, Vera; and one sister, Marlean Brady.
Mr. Cogar was an avid hunter. He was retired from Taylor-Ramsey Lumber Co. in Lynchburg, Va. He had worked in the coal mines. He was the owner of Cogar Cabinet Shop for several years. Mr. Cogar will be missed by his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Friends will be received at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, from the funeral home chapel. Harry G. Cogar
Harry Granville Cogar, 80, a resident of Adrian, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, in the Veterans Administration Center at Clarksburg.
He was born Thursday, Nov. 12, 1925, at Diana, a son of the late James Cogar and Ether Maud Cogar.
Surviving are his wife, Ola Deloris Cogar of Webster Springs; two stepdaughters, Rosemary Simons of Volga and Carolyn Amos of Adrian; one stepgranddaughter, Cynthia Cool of Buckhannon; one stepgrandson, Jimmy McIe of Volga; and one sister, Mintie Miller of Romney.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Oscar Cogar, Howard Cogar, Charley Cogar and Jessey Cogar; and three sisters, Clara Coleman, Iva Baggs and Goldie Propts.
He was a resident of Upshur County for 10 years and was formerly of Webster County. He was a woodsmen and was a member of Sand Lick Primitive Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

Hilda M. Cogar
Hilda Mae Cogar, 81, a resident of Buckhannon, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at her home.
She was born Nov. 18, 1924, at Gassaway, a daughter of the late Charles B. and Hilda Ward Layman.
On Aug. 25, 1940, she was married to William C. Cogar, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Adele Jane Mazcsky and husband, Andrew, of Florida, Amy Joan Klein and husband, Charles, of Virginia and Ann Elizabeth Hollen and husband, Jay, of Buckhannon; five grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one one sister, Helen Louke of Glenburnie, Mich.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Thurla Brownfield; and one brother, Creed Layman.
She taught in Upshur County schools for 31 years. She was an active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist and a member of Pythian Sisters. She also enjoyed reading and traveling with family and friends.
Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at the funeral chapel. The Rev. Mabel V. Cogar
Mabel V. Cogar, 63, of Orr Street, Buckhannon, died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at her home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
She was born April 25, 1943, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Edward Kittle and Gracie Allen McClure Kittle Sanders.
She is survived by her husband, Donald R. Cogar.
Also surviving are five daughters, Doris Simmons of Gerard, Ill., Angela Catlin of Buckhannon, Melody Skidmore of Philippi, Sonya and Tonya Cogar, both of Buckhannon; and two sons, Allen Tenney of French Creek and Scott Tenney of Weston; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren with one great-grandchild to be born in September. Also surviving are four sisters, Betty Arnold and Nora Simons, both of Greenwich, Ohio, Evelyn Thompson of California and Carol Ann Sanders of Czar; and one brother, Johnny Kittle of French Creek. She also has adopted family surviving, Fallon Jones of Buckhannon and Joel E. Jones of Rock Cave. She is survived by her ex-husband, Freeman Tenney.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Umbright; an infant brother, Charles Kittle; and an infant sister, Dorothy Jean Riggleman.
Mabel was a Methodist by faith.

Mary Cogar
Mary Cogar, 78, of Selbyville, the Newlon community, died at her home, Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006.
She was born July 16, 1928, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Eliza “May” Sines.
She was united in marriage on June 3, 1954, to Donald R. Cogar, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by six sons, Ernie and wife, Kim Cogar, of Alexander, Donald Cogar of Buckhannon, Charles and wife, Donna Cogar, of Selbyville, Dennis Cogar of Selbyville, Harold Cogar of Charleston and Gerald and Rita Humphrey of Selbyville; six daughters, Anita Sayer of Alexander, Opal and Ab Woodson of Selbyville, Lila Cogar and Connie Cogar, both of Selbyville, Lois and Ed Mackey of Buckhannon and Ruby and Gary Reed of Buckhannon; 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John Howard and Hayse Isenhart.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Stanley Cogar, James Humphrey and Herbert K. Cogar; one granddaughter, Priscilla Gaines; one brother, James Howard; and one sister, Hazel Sines.
Mary was a Methodist by faith.

William C. Cogar
William “Bill” Currence Cogar, 82, a resident of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.
He was born May 17, 1924, at Removal/Gardine, Webster County, a son of the late William Currence and Maggie Tanner Cogar.
On Aug. 25, 1950, he was married to Hilda Mae Layman Cogar, who preceded him in death June 17, 2006.
Surviving are three daughters, Adele Jane Mazesky and husband, Andrew, of Florida, Amy Joan Klein and husband, Charles, of Virginia, and Ann Elizabeth Hollen and husband, Jay, of Buckhannon; five grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was co-owner of C & W Sinclair City Service Gas Station in Tennerton and retired from West Virginia Wesleyan College as a security officer. He was a charter member of Upshur County Emergency Medical Service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He was Methodist by faith.

Antoinette Elizabeth Ross Colabrese, 90, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 10, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health.
She was born Sunday, June 13, 1915, at Thomas, a daughter of the late Emedio Ross and Agatha Saccocia Ross.
On Dec. 26, 1944, she was married to Charles Colabrese, who preceded her in death in Oct. 19, 1984.
Surviving her are one son, Charles A. Colabrese and wife, Irma, of Turnersville, N.J.; one brother, Lawrence Ross of Elkins; three sisters, Anna Pase of Coalton, Edith DiBacco of Thomas and Frances Triplett of Elkins; one grandson, Michael Colabrese of Turnersville, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were four brothers, Julie, John, Guido and Carmen L. Ross; and one sister, Mary DiBacco.
She was a graduate of Coalton High School with the class of 1933, had worked as a sales clerk at a women’s clothing store in Philadelphia, Pa., was a homemaker and was a member of Saint Brendan Catholic Church.

Geraldine S. Collett
Geraldine Smokey Collett was born Feb. 12, 1926, at Minden, Nev.
She is the daughter of William and Sadie Joe Smokey.
Geraldine is a 1945 graduate of Stewart Indian School. Geraldine married Howard F. “Peanut” Collett in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sept. 4, 1954. Howard was born and raised in Elkins, and is a 1949 graduate of Davis & Elkins College.
They have two children, Howard F. Collett Jr. and Joann Thomas. They have three grandchildren, Vincent Reymus, Tasheena Reymus and Taleah Reymus. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Geraldine passed away on Nov. 10, 2006, in her home, after a lengthy illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters; Huntington Smokey, Thomas Smokey, Carnegie Smokey, Romaine Smokey, Freida Wyatt, Bernice Auchoberry, Lucille Smokey, Theresa Jackson and Joann Martinez.
Geraldine was the bank teller at the Stewart Indian School for many years until the school closed. She retired in 1981 and traveled throughout Europe with her husband until returning to the United States in 1985. She enjoyed spending time with her family and following her grandchildren in their sports activities. Geraldine is a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be at the Walton’s Funeral Home in Carson City on Nov. 17 from noon to 2 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m. Geraldine will be buried at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City, Nev., with a reception to follow in Dresslerville Gymnasium in Dresslerville, Nev. Ruth Maria Conner, 82, of Ooltewah, Tenn., formerly of Belington, died Monday, July 3, 2006, in Life Care Center of Collegedale, Tenn.
She was born June 12, 1924, in Tilsit, East Prussia (now Sovietsk, Koenigsberg/Kaliningrad Region, Russian Federation), a daughter of the late Gustav and Marie (Prengschat) Gottschalk.
On June 3, 1954, she was married to Kyle C. Conner, who preceded her in death on May 15, 2002.
Surviving are four daughters, Rosmarie Conner of Laconia, N.H., Christine “Barbara” Hancock of Ooltewah, Tenn., Marjorie Ruth Robertson of Collegedale, Tenn., and Evelyn Karen Joy of Cleveland, Tenn.; one son, Will Kyle Conner of Bow, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Robert Lowrey, Melody Lowrey, Scott Robertson, Heather Robertson, Shane Inman, Corey Thomas and Brooke Thomas; one brother, Horst Gottschalk; and three sisters, Edith Staker, Elfriede Federle and Christel Walz, all in Germany.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Gerda Gottschalk; and by two brothers, Heinz Gottschalk and Johannes Gottschalk.
Mrs. Conner was a homemaker and member of the Buckhannon Seventh Day Adventist Church and Valley Chapel Seventh Day Adventist Church in McDonald, Tenn. She had been an active volunteer at the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center and the Life Care Center at Collegedale.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 6, from the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave., Belington. Viola Mae Conner, 96, a resident of Buckhannon, died at 2:51 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at her home under the care of Peoples Hospice of Clarksburg.
She was born April 9, 1909, at Hinkleville, a daughter of the late James Simons and Allie Cutright Simons.
On Nov. 12, 1947, she was married to Dale Herbert Conner, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one daughter, Ethel Joan Hymes of Silver Spring, Md.; four granddaughters, Selena Anne Lantry of Glendale, Calif., Joni Lynn Cramer of Germantown, Md., Agatha Michelle Williford of Loma Linda, Calif., and Milva Althea McCallam of Brookeville, Md.; two brothers, James Simons of Buckhannon and Lester Simons of Horse Shoe, N.C.; one sister, Vonda Simons of Buckhannon; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Gregory and Viona Haller; one brother, Harold Simons; and two half sisters, Vera Kincaid and Verna Kincaid.
She was a cashier for Washington Adventist Hospital and attended Buckhannon Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Silas Sylvester Conolley, 83, a resident of Buckhannon, died at 8:45 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2006, in Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born March 25, 1922, at Richwood, a son of the late John P. Conolley and Roxie McCourt Conolley.
On Aug. 14, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lottie Ione Jackson Conolley, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are two sons, John Conolley of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and David Lynn Conolley of Buckhannon; seven daughters, Ann Conolley of Clarksburg, Mary Calton and husband, Larry, of Indianapolis, Ind., Carol Hess of Marcellus, Mich., Edna Sanderson and husband, William, of Winter Park, Fla., Donna Conolley of Orange City, Fla., and Barbara McAtee and Martha Mae Conolley, both of Buckhannon; one sister-in-law, Mary Stanley of Richwood; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice Tunning, Catherine Frame and Gertrude Peluchette; and one brother, George Conolley.
He was a maintenance engineer for St. Joseph’s Hospital and attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was a member of Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion, Holy Name Society, AARP and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army during World War II.

Marjorie E. Conway, 94, a resident of Rock Cave, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital NCF at Buckhannon.
She was born Dec. 23, 1911, at South Hampton, N.Y., the daughter of the late Milton Enstine Sr. and Josephine Enstine.
On June 19, 1936, she was united in marriage to Francis P. Conway, who preceded her in death June 17, 1998.
Surviving are one son, Gordon B. Conway of Rock Cave; one daughter, Cynthia (Conway) Nicol of Hanover, Va.; two granddaughters, Becky Newcome and Melissa Wilson, both of Rock Cave; two grandsons, Pat Conway of Rock Cave and Jerad Stevens of Tinton Falls, N.J.; four grandsons, Jimbo Newcome, Dana Conway, David Wilson and Chad Newcome, all of Rock Cave; and one brother, Raymond Enstine of Hilton Head, S.C.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Frank Conway; and one brother, Milton Enstine.
She was a homemaker, attended First United Methodist Church and was a member of Buckhannon Country Club.

Edward R. Coontz
Mr. Edward Ray “Eddie” Coontz, 81, a resident of Route 2, Belington, departed this life Saturday afternoon, May 6, 2006, at his residence. He had been in declining health for quite some time.
He was born Sept. 4, 1924, at Belington, a son of the late Ray Harrison Coontz and Dove Gainer Coontz.
On Nov. 23, 1951, he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Sturm, who survives at their residence.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Coontz is survived by two sons, Randall Kent Coontz and wife, Susan, and Rodney Daren Coontz, all of Belington; three sisters Mary Ramsey and Lucretia Tucker, both of Belington, and Imogene Chapman of West Mifflin, Pa. Four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Fredrick Coontz; one sister, Elouise Jones; and one granddaughter.
He attended the schools of Barbour County and graduated from Belington High School with the class of 1944. He was a veteran of the U.S Navy, having served in the later part of World War II. He drove school bus for Barbour County Schools in the Belington area for many years having retired in 1987. He was a farmer and in his former years was active in the Barbour County Extension Service, where he had served on several committees. He was a former member of Lambert Chapel Church and was presently attending Sugar Creek United Methodist Church near Belington.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington today, May 8, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again Tuesday until noon, at which time, Mr. Coontz will be moved to Sugar Creek United Methodist Church for visitation from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the church with the Rev. Destry Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in the Lambert Chapel Cemetery where the presentation of the American Flag will be conducted by American Legion Post 44 of Philippi. Cathy Ann Conrad, 54, a resident of 304 Nathan St., Elkins, passed away Monday evening, May 8, 2006, at her home. She had been in declining health for the past five years suffering from cancer and seriously ill for the past month.
She was born March 3, 1952, at Elkins, a daughter of Violet Hogue of Mill Creek and the late Ralph Hogue Sr.
She was married to William B. Haden in 1971, who preceded her in death in 1978. For the past 27 years, she was married to Henry Conrad Jr., who survives at Elkins.
Also surviving are three children, Marlena A. Haden of Elkins, William B. Haden of Indiana and Henry Douglas Conrad of Dailey; six grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole and Jeremy Dodrill of Kentucky, Markus and Logan Haden of Indiana and Emily Nicole Conrad of Dailey; two sisters, Patsy Collins of Mill Creek and Betty Jo Price of Dailey; one brother, Roger Hogue of Norton; and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were a brother, Ralph “Bunt” Hogue; a nephew, Kenneth Collins; and a granddaughter, Makayla Nicole Conrad.
She will be missed by family and friends and was a great wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her children and grandchildren most of all. She fought a long battle with cancer for more than five years.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joseph M.D. Conti
Joseph Morris Daniel Conti, 67, of Route 1, French Creek, died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at his home under the care of Peoples Hospice of Clarksburg.
He was born Sept. 5, 1938, at Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Joseph Conti Sr. and Ethel Rickles Conti.
Surviving are three daughters, Diana Hinkle of Buckhannon, Rosemary Conti of French Creek and Marietta Infinger and husband, James, of Charleston, S.C.; three sons, Robert Conti and wife, Bernedette of Berkley Springs, Joseph A. Conti of Beverly and Joseph E. Conti of Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Diana Marie Davis of Newport, R.I.; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Phillip Daniel Conti; his foster mother, Alma Pace; and his foster father, Edward Pace.
He had served with the U.S. Marines. He attended Light House Church and was a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663.

Carlin Lorice Cooper, 59, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Va.
Ms. Cooper was born March 27, 1947, at Hinton, Va., the daughter of Mabel Long Cooper of Hinton and the late Eldon Cooper.
She was a member of Mt. Bethel Church of the Brethren. She worked for Marshall’s in Bridgewater, Va.
Her mother is her only immediate surviving relative.
The family received friends Monday at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, Va. Funeral services were today at 2 p.m. in Mt. Bethel Church of the Brethren with the Rev. John Jantzi officiating. Jacqueline Cooper
Jacqueline Cooper, of 201 Ridgeview Ave., Iowa City, Iowa, died on Sept. 16, 2006, from a stroke suffered five days earlier.
Memorial services celebrating Jackie’s life will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City with the Rev. Dr. C. Edward Morgan officiating. A gathering for her family and friends will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Jackie was born May 12, 1933, at Jenningston, to Oakey and Gertie Smith.
She attended elementary school in Tucker County and graduated from Harman High School in 1950. She attended Glenville State College and graduated in 1954 with a major in elementary education. She taught grade school in West Virginia and in Richmond, Va.
She married Reginald Cooper, her high school sweetheart, on Aug. 22, 1954, at Dryfork. They spent the first year of marriage in Richmond, Va., where Reginald was a senior medical student. In 1955, they moved to Iowa City, Iowa, where Reg did his internship. Jackie taught at the Hospital School for Handicapped Children.
Jackie was the mother of four children:, Pamela Ann (Jeffrey Thompson) of Rochester, Minn., Douglas Mark (Margaret Fehrle) of Marshalltown, Iowa, Christopher Scott (Jodi Lippert) of Iowa City, Iowa, and and Jeffrey Michael (Amy Neiers) of DeWitt, Iowa. She is also survived by nine grandchildren.
Jackie served as an elder and deacon in the First Presbyterian church of Iowa City. She spent much time actively engaged in Church activities, and she served as president of Church Women United. Her faith is epitomized by Proverbs: 5 and 6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
She was a member of P.E.O., Chapter KQ and served as president of the chapter.
She was an avid tennis player, won many tournaments, and traveled to various sites around the country to participate in this activity. She was a dedicated walker, bowler and bridge player. She did crosswords, read and went to movies. Jackie and Reg loved travel. They traveled to all of the continents of the world, and recently they visited their 110th country. They came to West Virginia every year to attend family reunions and to keep in contact with their heritage.
Most of all, Jackie was an exemplary mother and wife. Her love for family and her faith in God were her top priorities. She instilled her love of life and her deep faith into her family. Her children and grandchildren gave her immense joy. Her personality allowed her to make friends with all of those with whom she came in contact. She truly loved people. Friends have described her as vibrant, uplifting, engaging, non-pretentious, caring, adventuresome and absolutely wonderful.
In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, she is survived by her identical twin sister, Geralding Wilking of New Jersey, three other sisters and one brother in West Virginia. She has numerous nieces and nephews.

Neal Cooper
Neal Cooper, 68, of Austintown, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, in Forum Health Medical Center Northside surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Cooper was born Sept. 2, 1938, at Elkins, to the late Warder G. Cooper and Margie L. (Collett) Cooper.
He graduated from Elkins High School in 1957 and a year later proceeded to Akron, Ohio, finding employment with the Kroger Supermarket chain. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1961 serving two years, mostly in Italy. Upon his release in 1963, he found employment with General Motors Corp. at the Lordstown, Ohio, plant. He retired after 35 years service for medical reasons. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3298 in Austintown, Ohio, and the Mended Hearts Club.
He is survived by his children, Raymond Deneal Cooper of Columbus, Ohio, and his daughter Dawn Strohm, her husband, Edward, and son, Derek, of Lexington, Ohio. Also surviving are three brothers, Warder R. Cooper and his wife, Wilda, of French Creek, Paul Cooper of Newark, Del., and Curtis L. Cooper and his wife, Patricia, of Elkins. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as many friends. He also leaves his former wife, Marilyn Reining, of Akron and former mother-in-law, Lucille Johnson of Crestline, Ohio.
In addition to his dad, who passed Oct. 21, 1994, and his mother, who passed Sept. 16, 1991, he was predeceased by his brother, Darrel L. Cooper and Deloris (Wimer) Cooper of Westerville, Ohio. Darrel passed March 24, 1991, and Deloris passed Oct. 10, 2004.
Services for Mr. Cooper were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home in Austintown, Ohio. Burial with full military honors was in the Garden of Valor in Green Haven Memorial Cemetery at Austintown, Ohio. Parker W. Cooper
Parker William Cooper, 85, a resident of Locust St., Elkins, made his journey home to receive his many heavenly rewards and dance around the throne rejoicing with his brothers and sisters in Christ late Tuesday evening, Oct. 24, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital. We will rest beneath the wings of his vibrant smile and the intense strength he imparted to us.
He was born Sunday, July 24, 1921, at Harman, a son of the late Rollin Snyder Cooper and Verdie Hedrick Cooper.
On Feb. 2, 1947, at Davis, he was married to the former A. Cathern Rexrode, who preceded him in death April 10, 1996.
Also surviving are two sons, William Rollin Cooper and wife, Diana, of Elkins and Richard Jones and wife, Frances, of Quinwood; one special son, Darryl Talkington and wife, Sabrina, of Elkins; two daughters, Brenda Cooper Mullenex and husband, Greg, of Elkins and Kathryn Luann “Bugsy” Tipton and husband, John, of Norfolk; one special daughter, Marie Hinkle of Elkins; one sister, Joyce Sanders of Akron, Ohio; one foster sister, Stella Mullennex and husband, Ed, of Job; five grandchildren, Shelly Beaver and husband, Mark, Christina Gainer, Katina Ritchie and husband, Jimmy, William Rollin Cooper II and James Jones and wife, Kim; and two great-grandchildren, D.J. Gainer and Crystal Jones.
Preceding him in death were one brother, David H. Cooper; and two sisters, Annabelle Nelson and Eleanor Nelson.
He attended the schools of Harman and Michigan, had served with the U.S. Army during World War II where he fought during the Normandy Conflict and was assigned to Company F, 331st Infantry Regiment, 83rd Division. Other areas of service included Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, where he earned the following: the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, AM, Theater Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the WWII Victory Ribbon.
He was a well-known farmer in the Whitmer area until 1969 when he moved to Elkins. He was a former employee of the Huttonsville Correctional Center and Allegheny Lumber Co. and was a member of the Church of God at Whitmer and Elkins. He was a member of Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 1, where he served as chaplain. He was a prayer warrior who’s passion was guiding others to the Lord and ministering to hospital and nursing home patients, never missing a week. He never encountered a stranger and was an inspiration to people from every imaginable walk of life. He spent the last few years of his retirement gardening and preaching the gospel.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Saturday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Phillip Richards and the Rev. Randall Richards will officiate and interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer where members of the West Virginia honor guard and H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion will conduct military honors.

Betty T. Corbin
Betty Teresa Lawrence Corbin, 96, a former resident of Tucker County and a resident of Windsor Woods Nursing Home of Hudson, Fla., departed this life Saturday evening, June 24, 2006, at the nursing home.
She was born May 22, 1910, at Hendricks, a daughter of the late Harry Lawrence and Mary Maud Hancock Lawrence.
In 1930, she was married to Glavis Corbin, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Glay Leon Corbin and wife, Helen Kay, of New Port Richey, Fla.; two grandsons, Jeff and Mike Corbin; and two great-grandchildren, Savanna and Tyler Corbin.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Herman Phillips; and one sister, Lona Waggy.
She attended the schools of Tucker County and was a graduate of Davis & Elkins College at Elkins. She was a waitress most of her life, working at the Chancellor Hotel in Parkersburg. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at Parkersburg.
A graveside service will be conducted Thursday morning, June 29, at 11 a.m. at Fansler Cemetery at Hendricks. Fr. Timothy Grassi will be the presider and interment will follow. Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Betty Teresa Lawrence Corbin.

Arnett B. Corley Sr.
Arnett Browne Corley Sr., 89, a resident of Buckhannon, died Friday, March 10, 2006, in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Buckhannon.
He was born March 1, 1917, at Tighview, a son of the late Archibald Wilson Corley and Dora Ada Corley Corley.
On Nov. 24, 1984, he was united in marriage to Avanelle McDaniel Corley, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Arnett B. “Sonny” Corley Jr. and wife, Cathy, of Elkview, Linwood Young and wife, Beverly, of Gallipolis, Ohio; Charles Craig Corley and wife, Hilda, of Gloucester, Va., and Michael A. Corley of Lewisburg; three daughters, Nancy Coleman and husband, Jim, of Lewisburg, Mary Jo Jones and husband, “Papa,” of Dunbar and Kate Nee and husband, Tom, of Lower Burrell, Pa.; two brothers-in-law, Gene Carpenter of Charlottesville, Va., and Bill Carpenter of Gambrills, Md.; one sister-in-law; Ruby Corley of Florida; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Evelyn Carpenter Corley; one sister, Sybil Corley; two brothers, Thomas Corley and Wilson Corley; one daughter-in-law, Linda Knupp; and one cousin, Nedra Stanley.
He was a retired mining engineer for Bethlehem Mines Corp. with more than 46 years of service. He attended First United Methodist Church and was a member of Buckhannon Lions Club, a 50-year member of Randolph Lodge 55 of Beverly, Scottish Rite and Osiris Temple of Wheeling. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines and Japan.
Friends were received Sunday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Billee Scott Mick officiating. Betty J. Corder
Betty Jeane Baughman Corder, 68, a former resident of Mingo, and Nelson’s Mobile Home Park at Beverly, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 26, 2006, in Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, where she had been a resident for the past month. She had been in failing health for the past year.
Born Aug. 20, 1938, at Buckhannon, she was the only daughter of the late Albert H. Baughman and the late Mae Gregory Baughman Hall.
She was thrice married. First, she was married to Hansford M. Tiffner. She then married Kessler R. Sharp, who also preceded her in death. On July 14, 2000, she was united in marriage to Louis Neal Corder Sr., who preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 2002.
Surviving are a special friend, nurse and companion, Cindi Arbogast and husband, Don, of Elkins; one son, Charles Masel Tiffner of Lacey Springs, Va.; and two daughters, Martha Ann Tiffner McDonald and Delores June Tiffner Snelson, both of Elkins. Betty is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Betty was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as an independent contractor delivering mail in the Snowshoe-Valley Head area for 45 years retiring in June of 2006. She had previously worked as a cook at Snowshoe and Silver Creek Resorts and served as a supervisor at Memorial General Hospital training employees in the janitorial department. She was a member of the Point Mountain Methodist Church at Monterville. Betty will be greatly missed by those who loved her and will remain in their hearts forever.

Avanelle M. Corley, 91, a resident of Buckhannon, died at 12:32 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at her home.
She was born Feb. 9, 1915, at Grafton, a daughter of the late Edward Clay McDaniel and Elva May Sturm McDaniel.
Surviving are four sons, Sonny Corley and wife, Kathy, of Elkview, Linwood Young and wife, Beverly, of Gallipolis, Ohio, Charles Craig Corley and wife, Hilda, of Gloucester, Va., and Michael A. Corley of Lewisburg; three daughters, Nancy Y. Coleman and husband, Jim, of Lewisburg, Mary Jo Corley Jones and husband, “Papa,” of Dunbar and Katy Corley Nee and husband, Tom, of Lower Burrell, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; caregivers, Susie Bender, Judy Bower, Duetta Oldaker, Mary C. Tighe, Genella Yoakum and Tammy Ryan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Arnett Browne Corley Sr., who died March 10, 2005; her first husband, Linwood H. Young, who died Jan. 10, 1968; one brother, Wayne McDaniel; one sister, Gladys Wolfe; and two daughters-in-law, Linda Knupp and Gloria Young.
She was a teacher for Barbour County Board of Education and attended First United Methodist Church. She was director emeritus of Barbour County Bank. She was a past member of the Parks and Recreation Committee, a member of Barbour County Retired Teachers Association, the Order of the Eastern Star, Arktaean Club, West Virginia Home Economics Pioneer, Daughters of the American Revolution and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Friends will be received at First United Methodist Church Saturday, Sept. 2, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the time of the memorial service. The Rev. Marianna Harr, the Rev. Billee Scott Mick, The Rev. Marvin Carr and the Rev. Damon Rhodes will officiate. Her body will be donated to the Human Gift Registry of West Virginia. Helena Corley
Helena “Kay” Corley, 58, of Coalton, died Thursday morning, Feb. 16, 2006, in the Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health but her death was unexpected.
She was born March 29, 1947, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Hayward Wallace Cunningham and the late Hazel Pauline (Mundy) Cunningham Harris.
Survivors include two sons, Todd (Tammy) Corley of Coalton and Tim (Krista) Corley of Irma, S.C.; one brother, Gary W. (Lori) Cunningham, DDS, of Philippi; five grandchildren, Danielle Hope Corley, Amanda Jo Moore, Michael J. Moore, Ashton Will Corley and Graylon Steiner Corley.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Sanford Worthington Harris; a granddaughter, Brittany Kay Corley; and by one sister, Marian Tenney.
Mrs. Corley had worked in the county health department offices in Barbour County and most recently Kanawha County with approximately 30 years service.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a former bowler and was a Methodist by faith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St., Philippi. The Rev. Ed Lowther will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Irene H. Corley
Irene Holbert Corley, 84, of Berkeley Springs, departed this life on Wednesday afternoon, June 21, 2006, at her home.
She was born Aug. 12, 1921, at Belington, a daughter of the late Boyd “B.E.” and Etha Findley Holbert.
On Sept. 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Paul D. Corley, who survives in Belington, to whom she had been married for 58 years.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, James Paul Corley and his wife, Sarah, and Michael Gregg Corley and his wife, Janet; and a daughter, Shari Kim Custer. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Gina Nicole Corley, Jonathan Russell Corley, Zachary Paul Corley and Michael Aaron Corley. Additionally, Mrs. Corley is survived by a brother, Ed Holbert of Belington; a sister, Margaret Ferguson of Montrose; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert “Bucky” Holbert and Paul “Bunyon” Holbert; and one sister, Wanda Poling.
Mrs. Corley was a graduate of Belington High School with the class of 1940 and Davis & Elkins College. During World War II, she worked briefly in Baltimore, Md., at a shipyard to support the war effort. Afterward, she became an elementary school teacher, retiring in 1981 after 30 years of service teaching music and language arts in Barbour and Morgan counties. She loved working with children. Early in her career, she taught tap dancing and organized a flute-o-phone band that performed in parades and various programs. She was a past member of Belington United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church of Berkeley Springs, Order of the Eastern Star 68 in Belington and West Virginia Retired Teachers Association. In her youth, she was a member of Phi Chi sorority and served as a princess at the Mountain State Strawberry Festival in Buckhannon. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing and being with family and friends.

Jackson Wilfred Corley, 65, of Row Avenue, Junior, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born July 10, 1941, at Charleston, a son of Nina Virginia (Igo) Corley, who survives at Dartmoor and the late Henry Jackson Corley.

Helmer of Junior; and his former wife, Cassandra Ann Fanell of Odum Ga.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, John Paul Corley and Stephen Andrew Corley.
Mr. Corley was a former auto parts salesman having been last employed by Summers Auto Parts and was a former employee of Alkire’s in Philippi. He was a 35-year member and a first responder in the Junior Volunteer Fire Department. He was a 25-year member of the Belington Emergency Medical Service. He was a wood worker and enjoyed working on guns and making gunstocks. He especially enjoyed building clocks.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, from the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave. in Belington. The Rev. F.L. “Wink” McQuain will officiate and interment will follow in Belington Fraternal Cemetery.

Sharon Jean Corley, 62, a resident of Conley Run Road, Valley Head, passed away Friday morning at her residence.
She was born May 11, 1943, at Valley Head, a daughter of Thelma Gay Lindsay Corley, who survives, and the late Deward Rector Corley. Also surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Samples and husband, Mike, of Valley Head and Karen Joyce Carrigan and husband, Don of Cocoa, Fla.; one brother, Lloyed Corley and wife, Wilma, of Valley Head; and five sisters, Barbara Sovey and husband, John, of Harrison, Mich., Helen Campbell of Johnson City, Tenn., Lynette Branch of Dublin, Va., Susan Sigley and husband, Rick, of Elkins, Patrice Corley, address unknown; and one sister-in- law, Judy Corley of Dearfield, Ohio. Four grandchildren, Justin Currence, Miranda, Jessica and Matthew Samples, also survive.
Preceding her in death was one brother, Russell Corley. Sharon was a front desk agent for Snowshoe Mountain Resort for 18 years. She was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church of Valley Head.

Robert Cousin, 73, of Davis, passed away April 10, 2006, in Cortland Acres Nursing Home.
He was born Aug. 16, 1932, at Thomas, a son of the late John Wesley and Hazel Hedrick Cousin.
He is survived by his wife, Mary M. White Cousin; four sons, Rick and Pam White, Steven Wayne Cousin, Robert Michael and Lisa Cousin, all of Davis and Karl Lynn “Jake” and Paulita Cousin of Hambleton; one daughter, Deborah Jean Plum of Davis; two brothers, Tom Cousin of Beverly and Albert Cousin of Maryland; six sisters, Freda Kovach of Davis, Eileen Heldreth and Jacqueline Thompson, both of Fairmont, Patricia Wiley of Marlinton, Virginia Wilson of Parsons and Geraldine Burger of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, John and Brittany, Jakob and Lonnie, Paige, Sabrina, Travis and Matthew; and one great-grandchild, Kashmira.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rudy and John; and three sisters, Vivian, Sue and Helena.
Mr. Cousin was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict, where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 936 and was a Methodist by faith.

Betty J. Covey
Betty Jo Phillips Covey, 75, a resident of Route 1, Elkins, departed this life Tuesday morning, Aug. 15, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Monday, Feb. 16, 1931, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Jesse James Phillips and Anna Marcella Hess Phillips.
On June 27, 1959, she was married to Edgile R. Covey, who preceded her in death Dec. 27, 2000.
Surviving are one son, Edgile R. Covey Jr. and wife, Dee Covey, of Follansbee; one brother, Carl Hall Phillips of Glen Burnie, Md.; two sisters, Madeline June Travise and husband, John, of Coalton and Imogene E. Goldberg and husband, Marty, of Meria; two grandsons, James Coburn and wife, Carla, and James “Brent” Klepack; one granddaughter, Jamie Coburn; and three great- grandchildren, Allie Coburn, Seth Coburn and Matt West.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were seven brothers, Hartsell, Howard, Maynard, Jack, Warren, Earl and Dwayne Phillips; two sisters, Katherine and Adeline; and one granddaughter, Samantha Klepack.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1953, was a homemaker and attended Bowden Family Worship Center.

Alma T. Cox
Alma Tenney Cox, of Fort Worth, Texas, beloved wife of the late Dr. James C. Cox Jr., died in her home Oct. 25, 2006, from respiratory failure.
She was born April 6, 1919, at Sand Run, to the Rev. Albert and Viola Tenney. As the eldest of 11 children, she learned to love unselfishly, give graciously and take responsibility early.
She and her husband of 60 years traveled the world together exploring and meeting interesting people from the Holy Lands, China, Iraq, Europe, Russia, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand. Her education includes a bachelor of arts from West Virginia Wesleyan and master in education from West Texas State University. Over her lifetime as an English teacher and science educator, she taught all subjects and all 12 grades from algebra and chemistry to French and Spanish. Her versatile teaching skills were employed in schools in Floyd County, Va., Summersville, Lewisville, The Embassy School in Baghdad, Iraq, Tulsa, Okla., and Plainview, Texas. As an active community member, she was named Woman of the Year and president of Plainview Federated Women’s Club, recipient of Woman of Distinction by the American Association of University Women, president of Gamma Iota and Epsilon Alpha Chapters of Delta Kappa Gamma, secretary of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and member of Hale County Retired Teachers and Hale County Historical Society. She authored the book “Birds in Plainview.” Besides growing minds, she enjoyed growing flowers, plants and trees. Her other avocations included oil painting, reading, traveling, tatting and crocheting.
She is survived by her siblings, Wilda Chenoweth, Meta Harrison, Agnes “Peggy” Payne, Jean Warner, Albert Tenney, Paul Tenney, Tommy Tenney and Bettie Gravey; and her children, James Carl Cox III, Joseph Merrells Cox II, Alma Lee Cox Humphrey, Elizabeth Susan Cox Unger and Albert John Cox. Alma Cox had 10 wonderful grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Viewing and visitation will be at First United Methodist Church in Buckhannon Monday, Oct. 30, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the funeral hour. Dr. James Carl Cox Jr., 86, a resident of Fort Worth, Texas, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Fort Worth, Texas.
He was born June 17, 1919, in West Virginia, a son of the late Carl and Maggie Cox.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Alma Tenney Cox; three sons, James C. Cox III, Joseph M. Cox II and John Cox; two daughters, Lee Humphrey and Susan Unger; one brother, Bill Cox; one sister, Laura Cox Haugh; grandchildren, Kelly Jones, Jana Watson, Catherine Cox, Elizabeth Duke, James C. Cox IV, Mathew Cox, Melissa Unger, Mary Unger, A.J. Cox and Katie Cox; and five great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were brothers, Joe, Albert and Ed; and a sister, Minetta.
He was a retired chemistry professor, author and consultant. He graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1940 with a degree in chemistry. He was an outstanding scientist and educator with doctorates in philosophy, jurisprudence and divinity. He is listed in numerous Who’s Who publications, including “Who’s Who in America” and “Who’s Who in the World.” Some of the colleges where he taught were the Naval Academy, Lamar University, University of Baghdad, Oral Roberts University and Wayland Baptist University. Among his former students are businessman H. Ross Perot and singer/actor Jerry Reed. He was a veteran of World War II and was in D-Day.

Nuncio George “Nuncy” Cox, 68, departed this life early Saturday evening, April 1, 2006, in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Presbyterian Hospital at Pittsburgh, Pa. Death was attributed to pneumonia.
He was born Thursday, Aug. 26, 1937, at Institute, a son of the late Lundy Davis Cox and Mecca Mae Peppo Cox.
He was never married.
Surviving him are one sister, Betty L. Caywood of Elkins; one aunt, Betty Branum of Dunbar; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Cox of Glenmore; two nieces, Shelly Canfield and husband, Eric, of Montrose and Kelly Carpenter and husband, Ron, of Glenmore, three nephews, Richard Cox and wife, Mary, of Belington, Ralph “Billy” Cox Jr. and wife, Frances, of Elkins and David Cox of Glenmore; and two special cousins, Rosemarie and Jerry Wright.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was one brother, Ralph William Cox.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1956, attended Davis & Elkins College, graduated from the Pittsburgh Culinary Institute, attended several other trade schools, was in the U.S. Army Reserve Officers‚ Training Corps and served in the U.S. Air Force and the Army National Guard. He had worked for the Manos and Elkins Theaters, numerous jobs in food service, had driven cab and had driven truck. He enjoyed going to school and reading, and he had been a member of Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mr. Joseph R. “Joe” Crawford died Sept. 23, 2006, in Willoughby, Ohio.
Born Jan. 15, 1927, at Elkins, he lived in Cleveland, Ohio, for 51 years before moving to Willowick, Ohio, where he lived for the past five years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Willoughby and Charles T. Raymer Lodge 683 in Euclid. Mr. Crawford worked as a water purification specialist at the Baldwin Water Purification Plant in Cleveland for 31 years before retiring in 1993.
Survivors are his wife, Lillian; children, Brett (Pam) Crawford, Renee Hula, Kim (Dennis) Boggs and Joseph R. Crawford Jr.; grandchildren, Kristina (Chris) Clark, Jamie Swisher, Ashley Hula, Marc and Rachel Boggs, Candace and Brianna Crawford; great-grandchildren, Nikki and Dylan Clark; and brothers, Burns (Neva) Crawford and Kenneth (Virgie) Crawford.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bettie Raper; parents, Roger and Blanche Crawford; and brother, Noel.

William Robert Creech Sr., 67, a resident of Coalton, departed this life early Monday morning, Jan. 30, 2006, at the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital at Weston.
He was born Tuesday, Aug. 30, 1938, at Congo, Ky., a son of the late Bill Creech and Bertha Maggard Creech.
On June 11, 1958, in New Jersey, he was married to the former Anna Mae Marco, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Richard Lee Creech of Davis; one brother, Samuel Jesse “Buck” Creech of London, Ky.; and two sisters, Bessie Lou Harris of Hamilton, Ohio, and Lois Cornett of Milton, Ind.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were one son, William Robert Creech Jr.; one daughter, Joy Lynn Creech; one brother, Phillip Gene Creech; and one sister, Rose Mary Combs.
He attended the schools of Clay County, Kentucky, had served with the U.S. Navy during Vietnam for three tours, was a diesel mechanic, having worked at Sewell Plastics, Vollrath Plastics and Evans Products, all of Tennessee. He owned and operated Creech and Sons Home Repair of Tennessee, Ohio and Kentucky and Creech Upholstery of West Virginia. He was a noted worker, motivator, and perfectionist and was known to go far beyond his call of duty

Edwin G. “Ed” Crites, 61, a resident of Buckhannon, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at his home in Buckhannon.
He was born Oct. 4, 1944, at Glady Fork, a son of Paul Crites of Buckhannon and the late Bertha Hyre Crites.
On Nov. 30, 1969, he was united in marriage to Josie Bond Crites, who survives at Buckhannon.

Lona Raikes Crites, 90, of Holly Grove, died Monday, July 10, 2006, in Serenity Care Home at Buckhannon.
She was born Oct. 15, 1915, at Holly Grove, a daughter of the late Moffett and Bessie Ogden Cochran.
She was married to Merwyn G. Raikes, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Gerald Creed Crites.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Rex (Shirley) Reeder and Mrs. Carl (Emma Lou) Marsh, all of Buckhannon and Mrs. Jimmy (Betty Rose) Civiello of Elkins; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Orville (Carolyn) Crites Roby of Front Royal, Va. and Mrs. Thomas (Eleanor) Crites Zirkle of Winchester, Va.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Thurman Cochran of French Creek.
She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Jimmy Civiello; one stepson-in-law, Orville Roby; and one stepgrandson.
Mrs. Crites was retired from the Upshur County Board of Education, where she was employed as a cook. She was formerly employed by Ace Hardware, Garden Fresh and the Home Hardware. She was a member of the Upshur County Senior Center, where she had served on the board. She was a member of the retired teachers association. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at Holly Grove and played the piano at several of the surrounding churches. She loved to travel and enjoyed Sunday drives on the back roads. She enjoyed visiting the elderly, loved to go hunting and enjoyed the outdoors.

Genevie May Wolford “Genny” Cross, a resident of Wilson Lane, Elkins, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 1, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, following an extended illness.
She was born Tuesday, March 11, 1941, at Dry Fork, a daughter of the late Eston Wolford and Myrtle Day Wolford.
On July 28, 1957, she was married to Richard Leon Cross, who preceded her in death Sept. 28, 1995.
Surviving are three foster children, Billy C. Moore of Aldie, Va., Linda Moore Falls of Junior and Virginia Adams Talkington of Elkins; her close companion, Bill Hamrick of Elkins; one brother, Holbert Ray Wolford of Hamilton; one sister, Anna Pennington of Kearneysville; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was one brother, Harding S. Wolford; and one sister, Betty Louise Wolford.
Genny attended the schools of Tucker County, was a homemaker and was a member of the Elkins Randolph County Senior Center Melody Chorus. She was a Pentecostal by faith and attended the Alpena Memorial Church at Alpena. She also attended the New Life Fellowship Church at Glenmore.

Larry Cross, 55, a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, passed away Feb. 12, 2006, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home where he had been a resident since 1998.
Born June 21, 1949, he was the son of the late Okey N. and Mary W. Ray Cross.

Margie F. Cross
Margie Frances Cross, 98, of Stalnaker Road, Route 2, Philippi, died early Sunday morning, June 11, 2006, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 25, 1907, at Rock Ford near Philippi, a daughter of the late William Elias and Carrie Blaine (Boyles) Mouser.
On Dec. 24, 1925, she was married to Stanley Clyde Cross, who preceded her in death on May 23, 1966.
Surviving are one daughter, Carrie Louise and husband, Charles B. Freeman, of Philippi; two sons, William A. and Louella Cross of Philippi and Elmer Karl and Alta Cleo Cross of Peeltree Community; two sisters, Adyce (George) Shaffer of Philippi and Leithel Frill of Norfolk, Va.; nine grandchildren, Joyce Groover in Indiana, Vonda Shingleton of St. Marys, Alicia Cross of Clarksburg, Jeff Cross of Philippi, Greg Cross of Montrose, Rexell Freeman of Arden, Stacey Freeman of Belington, Victor Cross of Volga and Amy Bennett of Belington; her devoted caregiver, Barbara Daugherty of Philippi; 15 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, James, Darl, Carl and Jay Mouser; by one sister, Opal Virginia Nestor; and by two grandsons, Steven Ray Freeman and Karl Blaine Cross.
Mrs. Cross was a homemaker. She attended Central Chapel United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
Funeral services will be conducted from Stemple & Forman Funeral Home at 385 S. Main St. in Philippi at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 13. Pastor Bryan Headley will officiate and interment will follow in the Marsh Graveyard of Cross Roads Cemetery.

Marie P. Cross
Marie P. Cross, 81, of Maybeury, W.Va., formerly of Elkins, went to be with the Lord Thursday evening at Welch Community Hospital after a long illness.
Born Aug. 3, 1924, in Benbush, she was the daughter of the late Thomas H. Pennington and Nella Jennings Pennington.
She was a member of the Irons Chapel United Methodist Church in Pheasant Run. She worked as a nursing home administrator at Nella’s Nursing Home in Elkins until her retirement in 1992.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had resided in Elkins for 35 years and had made her home with her daughter, Linda Miller and son-in-law, the Rev. Ronald Miller, for the past six years in Maybeury.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin J. “Bud” Cross in 1991; one brother Edward “Eddie” Pennington; two sisters, Carolyn A. Pennington Eidell and Sara Leeanna Pennington.
She leaves one daughter, Linda Miller and husband, the Rev. Ronald Miller of Maybeury; one granddaughter, Beverly Addison and husband, William, of Conyers, Ga; one grandson, Steven Miller and wife, Penny, of Oakvale; two great-granddaughters, Jenna R. Miller of Oakvale and Emily Addison of Conyers; one brother, William Pennington of Elkins; one sister, Ruthlyn Loughry, and husband, William of Colombus, Ohio, and several nieces, nephews and friends.
There will be a funeral service Sunday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at the Maybeury Church of God in Maybeury with the Rev. Ronald Miller officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service. Thelma J. Cross
Thelma Juanita Lang Cross, 93, a resident of Ridgeley, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, in Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 8, 1912, at Kerens, she was the daughter of the late George B. Lang and Russie Taylor Lang.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Monzell K. “Pete” Cross; one sister, Elizabeth E. Wagner; one half sister, Dove Glick; one brother, Marvin W. Lang; and one half brother, Percy J. Lang.
Mrs. Cross had been a seamstress and retail clerk in Elkins, She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church at Ridgeley, Delphia Rebekah Lodge 62 at Elkins, where she was a Past Noble Grand and belonged to the White Shrine.
Survivors include her son, Ronald L. Cross and wife, Glenna, of Williamsport, Md.; two grandchildren, Gregory A. Cross and wife, Christine, of Gibson Island, Md., and Debra L. Cross of Jacksonville, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Brynn Alexa Cross and Jonathan Hart Cross; one nephew, Doyle Lang; and two nieces, Patricia Johnson and Connie Bodkins.

Leonard Ray Crosston, 84, a resident of Elkins, passed away at 3:37 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 18, 1921, a son of the late Birdett E. and Ollie May King Crosston.
On May 20, 1942, he married Mary Marguerite Arbogast, who preceded him in death Jan. 5, 1999.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Crosston and wife, Linda, and Thomas Croston and wife, Dee Dee; and one daughter-in-law, Vickie Crosston, all of Elkins. Also surviving are eight grandchildren who were very dear to him, Clint Crosston and wife, Nellie, of Dallas, N.C., K.C. Crosston and wife, Megan, of Elkins, Cassie Crosston of Charlotte, N.C., Lori, Cortney, Chris, Kristen and Clay Crosston, all of Elkins; and one great-grandchild, Cullen Crosston.
Also preceding him in death were one son, Gary A. Crosston; four brothers, Shirley, Alva, John and Stanley Crosston; and two sisters, Blanche Quick and Kay Polito.
Mr. Crosston served for three years in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was employed by Wallace Bakery of Elkins, Chrysler Corp. of Detroit, Mich., Montgomery Ward of Elkins and retired from Citizens National Bank of Elkins. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion of Elkins.

Mary Pence Crouch, 93, a resident of Beverly, departed this life Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health.
She was born Saturday, Nov. 23, 1912, at Beverly, one of nine children born to Edward Rosier Pence and Jane Harris Pence.
She was married to Woodrow Crouch, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one sister, Margaret Wirth of Brooksville, Fla.; and one brother, John Pence of Akron, Ohio.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were three sisters, Elisabeth Leighton, Florence Dayton and Elthadora Chenoweth; two brothers, Charles Pence and Leonard Pence; and an infant brother who died at birth.
She was a graduate of Beverly High School and Davis & Elkins College. She was a teacher and taught in various schools in Randolph County, the last being Mill Creek, where she retired with more than 40 years of teaching.

Floyd Milton “Mick” Cunningham, 76, a lifelong resident of Alpena, and a well-known farmer, departed this life early Wednesday morning, March 1, 2006, in Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown. Death was attributed to a massive stroke.
He was born Monday, Sept. 9, 1929, at Elkins, a son of the late Claude Arnold Cunningham Sr. and Edith Berkley Rouse Cunningham.
On Aug. 25, 1951, at Elkins, he was married to the former Dorothy Lee Isner Cunningham, who preceded him in death April 28, 1983.
Surviving are three daughters, Brenda Dianne Stalnaker and husband, Jim, of Point Pleasant, Amelia Louise “Amy” VanReenen and husband, Harold “Hum,” of Alpena and Sharon Lee Swecker and husband, Carl, of Alpena; one sister, Vaiden E. Campbell of Charleston; four grandchildren, Jason Stalnaker, Brad Swecker and wife, Kim, Casey Cunningham and Katie Cunningham; one great-granddaughter, Kelsey Dawn Swecker; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were one son, Kenneth Milton “Kenny” Cunningham; one daughter, Vickie Elaine Cunningham; one brother, Claude Arnold “Tom” Cunningham Jr.; and two sisters, Dorthea Maxine Cunningham and Flora Marie Cunningham.
“Mick” attended the two-room school at Alpena and Elkins High School, was a state fire warden for more than 25 years, was a former scout leader for many years, was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for the West Virginia Division of Highways, retiring in 1980. At the time of his death, he was the owner and operator of the Rose Summit Stock Farm at Alpena and was a member of the Randolph County Planning Commission.

Louis Cunningham Sr.
Louis Denver Cunningham Sr., 89, a resident of Whitmer and more recently a patient of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
He was born Feb. 6, 1917, at Whitmer, a son of the late John Floyd Cunningham and Ida Belle Phillips Cunningham.
On May 6, 1939, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Wanda Gum, who preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 2002.
Surviving is one son, Louis Denver Cunningham Jr. of Whitmer; four sisters, Mrs. Mack (Louise) Barkley of Whitmer, Mrs. Newton (Mary) Tingler and Mrs. Jim (Arlene) Tingler, all of Elkins, Mrs. Paul (Nancy) Bennett of Moyers; and six brothers, Leonard, Dale and Sampson Cunningham, all of Beverly, Wade Cunningham of Elkins, Lincoln Cunningham of Kerns and John Wilson Cunningham of Whitmer.
Also preceding him in death was one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cunningham; one sister and one brother.
Mr. Cunningham attended the schools of Randolph County. During WWII, he served as a machinist mate third class in the U.S. Navy on the USS Gold Star in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Cunningham was a millwright for Republic Steel Corp. at Youngstown, Ohio, for nine years. He was a farmer, sawmill operator and later served as a corrections officer in the Huttonsville medium security prison. For nine years, he was the custodian of the Randolph County Courthouse until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion of Elkins. He was a Methodist by faith.

Roy W. Curry
Dr. Roy W. Curry, of Bridgeport, died at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, May 14, 2006, in United Hospital Center at Clarksburg.
He was the son of the late Escar and Mary Long Curry.
He served with the combat engineers in the European Theater during World War II. A graduate of Marshall College and West Virginia University, he received his Ph.D. in history from Duke University and taught for 30 years, first at Emory University and then Carnegie Mellon University and the last 15 at West Virginia Wesleyan.
A specialist in American/Foreign policy, his study of Woodrow Wilson and Far East Foreign Policy was the standard works in its field and was translated into Chinese by the government of China. In Pittsburgh, Dr. Curry served on a mayor’s committee for culture affairs, an early attempt at racial integrating, and the Ford Foundation program to improve instruction in southern black colleges. He was among the pioneers to introduce advanced placement for gifted students in the schools. Working in a variety of faculty capacities, he often joked that if he could subtract all the time he spent in committee meetings from his current age, he wouldn’t be old enough to vote. He was a member of numerous scholarly and academic organizations, he was proudest of his membership in Phi Beta Kappa, the scholastic honorary, and ODK, recognizing campus leadership. He was a member of Bridgeport Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Curry was the last living member of his immediate family.
He is survived by four nieces and one nephew.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Holmes officiating. He will be cremated and the ashes will be interred in Heavner Cemetery. Mary L. Curtis
Mary Lou Curtis, 53, a resident of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at her home.
She was born July 30, 1953, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Charles Joseph Bowman and Elma Mae Canter Bowman.
On Aug. 15, 1971, she was married to Hayward Gene Curtis, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one son, Charles Curtis of Buckhannon; one daughter, Connie Curtis of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Icy Marie Curtis of Buckhannon; one grandson, Arey Louis Harman of French Creek; two brothers, Michael David Bowman and Randy Joe Bowman, both of Tallmansville; and four sisters, Bertha Ann Nuzum and Carol Marie Bowman, both of Tallmansville, Roberta Lynn Green of Buckhannon and Patty Jo Booth of Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, David Bowman and Charles Bowman.
She was a homemaker.

Richard A. Cuonzo
Richard Anton Cuonzo, M.D., 87, a former resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of Hoopeston, Ill., departed this life Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, in Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, just one hour prior to his 88th birthday, after being admitted with an unexpected illness.
He was born Tuesday, Sept. 24, 1918, at Long Island, N.Y., a son of the late Peter Cuonzo and Jennie Trapani Cuonzo. Surviving are his beloved wife, the former Dorothy Leona Yaus; three daughters, Valerie Cuonzo of Lakewood, Calif., Marilynn Cuonzo of Elkins and Michelle Seaman of Chesterland, Ohio; five grandchildren, Angela Cosner, Joelle Simmons and Zachary Cuonzo, all of Lakewood, Calif., Marielle Gallagher of Elkins and Stephanie Seaman of Chesterfield, Ohio; and a 1-week-old great-grandson, Owen Carter Cosner of Morgantown.
Dr. Cuonzo was a graduate of the University of Tennessee Medical School with the class of 1946 and completed his medical residency at Charleston, where he met his future wife, Dorothy. He continued his education and research by completing two more residencies in cancer and surgery before joining his father’s practice in West Memphis, Ark. He worked there until 1960 when he moved to Parsons and started his own surgical practice in conjunction with the Tucker County Hospital at Parsons where he resided until 1971. At that time he moved to Hoopeston, Ill., where he practiced medicine until his retirement at the age of 80 in 1999.
A former member of the Hoopeston Rotary Club, Dr. Cuonzo led a full life with a zealous interest in everything he did, including his family, his medical profession and also as an avid equestrian. His interest in horses led him to show a few of his own five-gaited horses. He also enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, horseshoes and bowling in the Hoopeston Bowling League. An environmentally conscious person, he loved the outdoors and caring for his animal friends, especially his dog, Rusty.
In the last years of his life, he and Dorothy spent much of their time in Chesterland to be with family. His eloquent knowledge of history and language paired with his keen memory and great wit made him a fluent storyteller. He will be greatly missed.

Wanema Currence
Wanema Pauline Currence, 89, of Arnold, Md., died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at her residence after a 2 1/2 year illness.
She was born Dec. 29, 1916, at Elkins.
She was married to the late Elmer Frederick Currence Sr.
Surviving are one daughter, Heather Ruth Currence Berlett of Arnold, Md.; three sons, Elmer Frederick Currence Jr. of Rock Hall, Md., John Leonard Currence of Arnold, Md., and William Stewart Currence of Annapolis, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was born at Elkins and raised at Norton. She received her teaching degree from Davis & Elkins College.
She taught grade school in Job, was the owner and operator of the Norton Telephone Co. and was a homemaker. She loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, gardening, reading and the theater. She also had a deep appreciation for art and was a novice painter.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home in Severna Park, Md. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Pasadena United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Thompson. Interment will be a private service. Ida Elizabeth Curry, 96, a resident of Heartland Nursing Home in Clarksburg, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, in Heartland of Clarksburg.
She was born Oct. 28, 1910, at Ingo, a daughter of the late Gabriel A. Corley and Lovie J. Steerman Corley.
On Dec. 22, 1934, she was married to Oran “Buck” Curry, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Roy Erving Curry and wife, Suni, of Anmoore; one foster son, Billy Casto and wife, Lois, of Blacksburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Vanessa Curry of New Mexico, Scott Curry of Virginia, Jenny Casto and Daniel Casto, both of Blacksburg, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Dell Curry of Columbia Station, Ohio; two sisters, Irene Fragmin of Anmoore and Phyllis Neugebauer of Ellamore; many nieces and nephews including special nieces and nephews, Jeff and Erin Stevens and Tom Brown.
Also preceding her in death were two sons, Ralph Curry and James Curry; four sisters, Verna Corley, Dela Corley, Nela (Corley) Brown and Pauline (Corley) Richmond; and three brothers, Page Corley, George Corley and Boyd Corley.
She was a homemaker and a member of Christian Fellowship Church.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Virginia I. Curtis
Virginia Irene Curtis, 89, of 2255 old Route 33 Weston, the Gaston community, died at 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital in Buckhannon following an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 28, 1917, in Randolph County, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Holly Ward Lower.
On July 9, 1936, she married Howard Warren Curtis, who died Feb. 29, 1968.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law Roger L. Curtis and wife, Ethel, of Gaston and Jackie Lee Curtis and wife, Betty, of Buckhannon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane Hunter and husband, Henry, of Chester, Ohio, and Anna Lough and husband, Stanley, of French Creek; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ben Lower of Ravenna, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Curtis was a member of Horner United Methodist Church, a homemaker, and previously worked at the Louie Glass factory and had been employed at the William and Delores Adler house for many years.

Rosetta “Rose” Cutlip, 77, a resident of Buckhannon, departed this life Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at her home.
She was born April 16, 1928, at Diana, a daughter of the late Floyd and Scenna Anderson.
Mrs. Cutlip is survived by four children, Harry R. Cutlip and Steven K. Cutlip, both of Buckhannon, Darlene Hunter of Wheeling and Cynthia Sanders and husband, Jerry, of Madison, Ohio; four sisters, Vanna Cogar of Rock Cave, Peg Daniels of Knoxville, Tenn., Dorothy Anderson and Louise Anderson, both of Buckhannon; five brothers, Roland Anderson of McMinnville, Tenn., Hunter Anderson of Rock Cave, Dolan Anderson of Lagrange, Ohio, Loren Anderson of Gaines and Floyd Junior Anderson of Buckhannon; one stepson, Eugene Cutlip of Va.; two stepdaughters, Janet Judge of Moundsville and Rita Garvin of Warren, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, eight stepgrandchildren, 14 stepgreat-grandchildren and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Argel H. Cutlip; one daughter, Helen E. Barnett; one son, Stoney Ames Cutlip; one stepgrandson, Mark Cutlip; and four brothers, Ferry, Willard, Ora and Flay Anderson.
Mrs. Cutlip’s special hobbies were her children and grandchildren.

Laura Pearl Cutright, 83, of Holbrook Nursing Home and formerly of Weston, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2005, in Holbrook Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Samuel and Dovie Snow Pringle Duncan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence F. Cutright.
She is survived by two sons, Doyle R. and wife, Karen Cutright, of Buckhannon and Dayton and wife, Nancy Darlene Cutright, of Weston; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Duncan and wife, Glenna, of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Catherine Hall of Walkersville; two half brothers, Marion “Buck” and wife, Pearl Duncan, of Walkersville and William “Bill” and wife, Betty Duncan, of Weston; six half sisters, Wilma and husband, Oley Curtis, of Weston, Rose and husband, Thomas Aichele, of Clarksburg, Mildred and husband, Rondal Rittenhouse, of Westfield, Betty Burkhammer, of Weston, Pauline Riffle and husband, Russell, of Walkersville and Sylvia and husband, Carl Ables, of Weston.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Goldie Ruth Rollins and Esther Anna Cutright; one brother, Richard Duncan; one half brother, Cottie L. Summers; and one sister, Irene Burkhammer.
Mrs. Cutright was a Methodist by faith.

Ralph E. Cutright
Ralph E. Cutright, 85, a resident of Morgan Addition, Buckhannon, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at his home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Randolph County, a son of the late Steward and Viola Wilfong Cutright.
He was twice married, first to the late Irene Griffith Cutright, and second to Helen Hefner Cutright.
Surviving are two sons, Larry W. Cutright and wife, Mary, of Buckhannon, and Terry B. Cutright and wife, Brenda, of Buckhannon; three daughters, Jean Harris and husband, Lynn, of Buckhannon, June Maloney and husband, Ken, of Kingwood and Linda S. Abel and husband, Stephen, of Buckhannon; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one sister, Wanda Ritter, of Delaware.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Bill Cutright and Steward Cutright Jr.
In 1960, he established Ralph’s Furniture Store in Morgan Addition and retired in 1978. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Franklin Lodge 7 AF & AM of Buckhannon and the Osiris Shrine Temple of Wheeling.
Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Josie Tenney officiating. Interment will follow in Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton where Franklin Lodge 7 AF & AM will conduct graveside rites.
