Joseph N. Yeager
Joseph Neil Yeager, 73, of Stoney Run, Buckhannon, departed this life and went home to be with his heavenly father Friday, July 22, 2005. He lost his courageous 2 1/2-year battle with cancer at home with his loving wife and family under the care of St. Joseph Hospice.
He was born Jan. 31, 1932, at Kingsville, a son of the late Granville and Lilly Goff Yeager.
On Nov. 24, 1979, he married Betty Post Wright, who survives.
Also surviving are sons, Gary Yeager of Lost Creek, Joe Yeager Jr. and wife, Maureen of Belize, Calif., and Perry Wright and wife, Pamela Wright, of Peeltree; daughters, Carmela Wright-Miller and husband, Mike Miller, of Buckhannon and Sharon Clevenger and husband, Sid Clevenger, of Hopwood, Pa.; grandsons, Cameron and Tanner Miller, Stephen Wright, Justin Yeager, Kenneth Robinson II, Ritchie Clevenger and Clay Conrad; granddaughters, Breanna Wright, Krista Yeager, Bethany Yeager, Liza Conrad and Tracy Henry; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances Yeager and her husband, Richard Dahl of Illinois, Hilda Lincoln of New York, Eleanor Delp of Indiana and Urie Huber and husband, Bob Huber, of Indiana; brother, Raymond Yeager of Kingsville; sisters-in-law, Ella Yeager of Lewisburg and Nina Yeager of Reynoldsville; mother-in-law, Macie Post of Buckhannon; special mother, Mrs. C.H Woodford of Lost Creek.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene Yeager, Herman Yeager and Graydon Yeager; sister, Mary Virginia; sister-in-law; Elda Yeager; brothers-in-law, Bob Delp and Johnnie Lincoln; and a nephew, Chip Post.
Joe graduated from Coalton High School, attended Davis & Elkins College on a basketball scholarship and then transferred to West Virginia University. He later joined the Army and served from 1953-1956. He served in the Korean War and received the National Defense Service Medal. Upon returning from military service, he completed his bachelor’s of science degree in forestry management at WVU. He completed his master’s of science degree in extension from Michigan State and WVU as an extension forester, where he continued to work for the university for 32 years, retiring in 1988. He then worked for the state of West Virginia as a forester for the Division of Forestry in Charleston. He most recently worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways in Weston, working on the welcome centers in West Virginia.
He continued to utilize his knowledge, professional experience and public relations contacts, along with his love of West Virginia and its people as he worked with various organizations. Joe Yeager developed and established the National 4-H Forestry Invitational, the only national 4-H event held in West Virginia. During the 25th anniversary in 2004, he was honored as the Father of the Invitational, which has been held at Jackson’s Mill since 1980. In honor of his efforts, the Joseph N. Yeager Leadership Award was established and is given annually to the outstanding camper that week.
Throughout his life, Joe was recognized with significant honors and awards, including the West Virginia Agriculture and Forestry Hall of Fame, Distinguished Alumni Award from the WVU College of Agricultures, Forestry and Consumer Sciences Alumni Association; Distinguished Service to the West Virginia Agriculture and Forestry, International Honor Society of Agriculture and Forestry, 2004 induction into the West Virginia 4-H Hall of Fame and the Joseph N. Yeager National Leadership Award. Also in March, he received the the West Virginia Forestry Award presented by Gov. Joe Manchin. This award was established to recognize outstanding efforts in academic teaching and training of your foresters and is named for W. Clement Percival, the first director of Forestry at WVU.
Joe worked with several governors to promote foreign and state markets for wood products in West Virginia. He also achieved selection to membership in the West Virginia 4-H All Stars, Gamma Sigma Delta, West Virginia Chapter, International Honor Society of Agriculture and Forestry; and Epsilon Sigma Phi, Cooperative Extension Service Honorary. He was recognized at the 1977 National 4-H Club Congress with the National Distinguished Forester Award by the International Paper Co. and National 4-H Council in Chicago, Ill. He was involved in and held many leadership rolls in several organizations, including the West Virginia Forestry Association, WVU Forestry Alumni Association, West Virginia Extension Association, West Virginia Horseman’s Association and State Conservation Camp Committee, which recognized him for 32 years of dedicated service this year. Joe started the West Virginia Tree Farmers Association. He was responsible for the 1963 Christmas Tree for the White House in Washington, D.C., and also worked the forestry exhibits at the Forest Festival in Elkins for more than 50 years. These are just a few of his accomplishments.
Joe was an extremely devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, colleague and friend who will be greatly missed by all. He will be remembered for his smile, his laughter, his knowledge, his caring, his sense of humor and his sharing of time, talent and love. He loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends. And no one will ever forget the love he had for watching his grandchildren play basketball.
He belonged to various organizations including the American Legion, Elkins Post 29 and Tennerton Lions Club, where he was responsible for starting the first Leo Club in Upshur County. He also belonged to the West Virginia Forestry Association, Gideons International, Lewis-Upshur Camp.
He was a trustee for Christian Fellowship Church, where he was a member of the choir for many years. He was a charter member and loved his church and church family vary much. Joe would say “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” II Timothy 4:7.
Friends will be received at Christian Fellowship Church at 25-B Norvell Drive in Buckhannon today from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to noon, the service hour with the Rev. Ed Daniels and the Rev. Jerry Murrell officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery where the honor guard of American Legion Post 44 will conduct military rites. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alan Miller, HC 32, Box 33, Upper Tract, W.Va. 26866 for scholarships to West Virginia Conservation Camp or to the Gideons International, P.O. Josephine V. Yeager
Josephine Virginia Yeager, formerly of Morgantown and 619 Bounds Circle, Westover, passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at home.
She was born Aug. 17, 1909, in Elk Garden, a daughter of the late Christopher and Rebecca Susan Wick Yeager.
She worked as a sales clerk for O.J. Morrison Co. until her retirement. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Morgantown.
She is survived by one niece, Virginia Doud of Grafton; four nephews, Charles and Lynn Kay Yeager of Petersburg, Pete and Jane Yeager of Virginia Beach, Va., Charles and Linda Coleman of Belington and Chris and Donna Coleman of Belington, with whom she made her home the last two years.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Nell Coleman, Bessie Davis, Mary Yeager and Eva Yeager; and five brothers, George W. Yeager, Marshall Lee Yeager, John Yeager, David Yeager and Robert Yeager.
She was a very giving person and will be missed by all.
Friends may call at McCulla Funeral Home Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at McCulla’s Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rick Howard officiating. Rev. Berma B. Yerkey
Rev. Berma B. Yerkey, 87, of Maysville, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Md.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral services on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Max Fisher officiating. There will be a military graveside service by the combined veteran organizations of Grant County and the JROTC.  From 14 Jan 2005.

Edwin S. Yoakum
Edwin S. “Dee” Yoakum, 84, a resident of Four Lost Ave., Buckhannon, died at 4:58 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at his home in Buckhannon.
He was born May 2, 1920, at Ellamore, a son of the late George Wesley Yoakum and Mary Maude Booth Yoakum.
On July 24, 1948, he was married to Lavaughn Sipe Yoakum, who survives.
Also surviving are one grandson, Keenan Barnes of Richmond, Va.; one great-grandson, Cadell Barnes of Richmond, Va.; two great-granddaughters, Cassidy Marie Barnes and Courtney Lavaughn Barnes, both of Richmond, Va.; one son-in-law, John W. Barnes of Buckhannon; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were one daughter, Sharon Marie Barnes; three brothers, James Yoakum, Scott Yoakum and Granville Yoakum; and two sisters, Hattie Mae Harris and Nora Juanita Fallen. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was a truck driver for Gaston Grocery and attended Mt. Harman United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 and French Creek Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans, served as Sunday school superintendent at Mt. Harman United Methodist Church and was a trustee for may years.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Poling and the Rev. Michelle Goss officiating. Interment will follow at Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery. Buckhannon VFW Post 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and DAV Chapters 5 and 36 will conduct military honors at the gravesite.  From 7 Apr 2005. 

Homer J. Yokum
Homer John Yokum, 69, a resident of Harman, departed this life Thursday morning, Sept. 22, 2005, at Moorefield. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

Homer J. Yokum
Homer John Yokum, 69, a resident of Harman, departed this life Thursday morning, Sept. 22, 2005, at Moorefield. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born Saturday, April 18, 1936, at Elkins, a son of the late Homer Yokum and Freda Cooper Yokum, who survives at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center. Also surviving are one sister, Hazel Hesson and husband Ray of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one nephew, Stacy Sturdivant and wife, Stacie, of Owings, Md.; and two great-nephews, James and Matthew Sturdivant.
Mr. Yokum was a graduate of Harman High School with the class of 1954, received his bachelor of science degree from West Virginia University with the class of 1958 and received his master’s degree in forestry from the University of Florida with the class of 1960. He was retired from the U.S. Forest Service, was a farmer and a member of the Harman Church of the Brethren.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m.to 8 p.m. today. On Sunday, Mr. Yokum will be moved to the Harman Church of the Brethren, where final rites will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. John Moyer will officiate and interment will follow at the Cooper Cemetery near Harman.

Robert Yokum
Robert “Bob” Yokum, 63, a resident of Valley View Mobile Home Park, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at his residence. Death was attributed to heart failure.
Born Dec. 19, 1941, at Huttonsville, he was the son of the late Bosworth and Armintie Riffle Yokum.
He was married thrice, first to the former Dorothy Henline and then to the former Kay Harron. On May 8, 1999, he was united in marriage to the former Sandra Mathney.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Madeline Beth VanDevender; three stepdaughters, Kimmie Armstead of Elkins, Nora Pritt and husband, Mike, of Valley Bend and Heather Welch and husband, Greg, of Mabie; three stepsons, Isaac Smith and Charles Smith both of Romney and Charlie Armstead of Elkins; two grandchildren, one great-grandson, many stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Chester and Lena Mathney.
Bob previously owned and operated Bob’s Salvage. He was a truck driver for Beckwith Lumber and Cupps LP Gas and was a farmer. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Yokum Family in care of Sandra Yokum at Box 21, Valley View Mobile Home Park in Dailey on behalf of Robert Yokum.
Friends will be received after 7 p.m. Wednesday at F.E. Runner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Latter-day Saints Church on the Beverly Five-lane. Tracy D. York
Tracy D. York, 86, a resident of 208 Buffalo St., Elkins, departed this life Thursday morning, Sept. 22, 2005, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

Tracy D. York
Tracy D. York, 86, a resident of 208 Buffalo St., Elkins, departed this life Thursday morning, Sept. 22, 2005, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born Saturday, March 8, 1919, at Hendricks, a son of the late Jesse G. York and Maude M. Smith York.
On Nov. 7, 1941, he was married to the former Ruby E. Rennix, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Joseph B. York and wife, Margie, of Castroville, Texas; one daughter, Susan E. Leasure of Saint Albans; two sisters, Mary D. York and Ruth S. York, both of Elkins; one granddaughter, Kristen E. Micheal and husband, S. Greg, of Salem, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Brennen A. and Lauren E. Micheal.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were two brothers, George W. York and Raymond Jerome York, and one sister, Virginia W. York.
Tracy attended Elkins High School and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. He worked as a machinist at the U.S. Navy Shipyards at Washington, D.C., retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Elkins Lodge 1135 BPOE, the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, the Randolph County Senior Center, where he was a member of the square dance team, the board of directors of the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA and the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was an avid vegetable and flower gardener.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Monday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Walter H. Blough and the Rev. Dr. Thomas W. Jackson will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, where the H. W. Daniels Post 29

Linda L. Young
Linda Lee Pennington Young, 43, of Thomas, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md.
She was born July 29, 1961, a daughter of the late Carrol Ray and Elise Lorene Reed Pennington.
She is survived by two daughters, Dasey Ann Young and Sereena Joelle Young, both of Thomas; one stepson, Sean Craig Burns of Davis; and five brothers, Larry R. Pennington of Laurel, Md., Thomas Pennington of Madison, Ohio, Carroll Pennington Jr. and Keith Pennington, both of Thomas, and Barry Pennington of Clairton, Pa.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
Linda was a loving mother and sister.
Friends will be received from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Glen Hugnenin officiating. Interment will follow in Davis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Miners and Merchants Bank in Linda’s name. Linda L. Young
Linda Lou Pennington Young, 43, of Thomas, passed away April 3, 2005, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md.
She was born July 29, 1961, a daughter of the late Carrol Ray and Elise Lorene Reed Pennington.
She is survived by two daughters, Casey Ann Young and Sereena Joelle Young, both of Thomas; one son, Sean Craig Burns of Davis; and five brothers, Larry R. Pennington of Laurel, Md., Thomas Pennington of Madison, Ohio, Carrol Pennington Jr. and Keith Pennington, both of Thomas, and Barry Pennington of Suttersville, Pa.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
Linda was a loving mother and sister.

Margaret E. Young
Margaret Ellen Young, 71, of Route 9, Buckhannon, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born June 12, 1933, in North Carolina, a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Vivian Waycaster Brank.
She was united in marriage Nov. 24, 1951, to Russell S. Young, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Richard Woody Young of Madison, Va., and Russell Edward Young of Buckhannon; five daughters, Diana Black of French Creek, Patricia Warner of Buckhannon, Cheryl Smith of Horner, Gloria Young of Morgantown and Debbie Browning of Selbyville; 18 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and sever nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Lucius Brank, and two sisters, Elizabeth Cooper and Barbara Peebles.
She was a member of the Sage Baptist Church.
Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Chapel Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Sago Baptist Church with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. The Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. From 3 Jan 2005.

Ray A. Young
Ray A. Young, 91, of Route 1, French Creek, died Thursday, July 14, 2005, at his home.
He was born March 24, 1914, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Sanford and Rose Carpenter Young.
He was united in marriage Nov. 3, 1941, to Martha Rebecca Lee Young, who preceded him in death July 27, 2003.
He is survived by five sons, John Bruce Young, Larry Ray Young, Thomas Wayne Young and James Steven Young, all of French Creek, and Stanley Ray Young of Weston; one daughter, Mary Roseann Young of French Creek; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Fizette; and one brother, Paul Young, both of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Mr. Young was a former member of the Tygart Valley Soil Conservation Club and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, at the funeral chapel with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and Disabled American Veterans Chapters 5 and 36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. William D. Yount
William D. Yount, 79, of 6879 Towhee Drive, Melbourne Village, Fla., died March 15, 2005, at home.
He was born Nov. 25, 1925, in Huttonsville to the late Glenn O. Yount and Mary Elizabeth May.
Surviving are his wife, Monna Fae; daughter, Suzanne and Christopher Connor of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; brother, James, of Waynesboro, Va.; sisters, Rena Dyer of Rochester, Minn., Mary Frances Landis of Chanute, Kan. and Betty May Gregory of Fayetteville, N.C.
He moved to Florida from Fairfax, Va., in 1982. He was a graduate of Davis & Elkins College and West Virginia University. He was a retired school teacher for the Fairfax County, Va., school system, a veteran of the Navy in World War I and later, the U.S. Army in Korea. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge 146 of Petersburg and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a Presbyterian by faith.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Florida Memorial Gardens. Sympathy expressions may be made to the charity of choice. Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  From 17 Mar 2005.
