Mary R. Naskey
Mary Rose Kerere Naskey, 95, of Adrian, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
She was born June 17, 1909, in Hepzibah, a daughter of the late Matteo and Julie Moore Kerere.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel J. Naskey Jr., of Adrian, to whom she was married for 74 years; one son, Frank F. Naskey and wife, Carole, of Gallipolis, Ohio; one daughter, Lois “Diane” Hyre, and husband, Darell, of Adrian; five grandchildren, Kim Canaday, Rebecca Rothgeb and Lori Young, all of Gallipolis, Ohio, Denise D. Hyre of Spangdahelm, Germany and Daniel W. Hyre of Adrian; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Grace Reed and husband, Woodrow, of Grafton and Amelia “Ted” Squires of Twinsburg, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
She was a homemaker and a Catholic by faith, who enjoyed quilting, fishing, camping and spending time in her kitchen. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family.
Friends will be received at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel Sunday from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, with The Rev. Robert Heavner officiating. Interment will follow in Upshur County Memorial Park Cemetery. The Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.  From 21 Jan 2005.

Genelda B. Neer
Genelda Bennett Neer, formerly of Beverly, passed away at her residence in Youngstown, Ohio, May 31, 2005.
She was born Jan. 30, 1947, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Monroe Stevens Bennett and Ruth Ann Slaughter Bennett.
Besides her parents, three sisters preceded her in death, Margaret Bennett Atkinson, Margie Newlon Cooper and an infant sister.
Surviving her are six children, John Daff of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Randy Daff of Youngstown, Ohio, Richard Stoffle of Tucson, Ariz., Julie Grafton of Youngstown, Ohio, Lisa Wileman of Fenwick and Shannon Carr of Austintown, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and two sisters, Virginia Pritt of Beverly.
A private funeral service was held at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman, Ohio, June 2, 2005.  From 22 Jun 2005.

C. Colin Nelson
C. Colin Nelson, 43, of Petersburg, died Saturday, June 11, 2005, in Baltimore, Md.
Visitation was Sunday at Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home with Pastor Wes Young officiating. Interment followed in Maple Hill Cemetery at Petersburg.  From 13 Jun 2005.

Edgar J. Nelson
Edgar John Nelson, 78, of Franklin, formerly of Harman and Elkins, died Feb. 26, 2005, in Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin.
He was born March 12, 1926, at Dry Run, a son of the late John Adam Nelson and Laura Jane Lambert.
He was married to Wanda Lee Vandevander Arbogast, who preceded him in death June 27, 1991.
Surviving are four daughters, Naomi Jean Smith of Greencastle, Pa., Patsy Jeanna Smith of Telford, Pa., Faye Lucille Tharp of Pickens and Kathy Louise Hedrick of Harman; four brothers, Elmer Nelson, Bennie Nelson, and Jesse Nelson, all of Franklin, and George Nelson of Baltimore, Md.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Glenn, Richard, Bob and Harry.
He attended Circleville Elementary School, was retired as a custodian for Citizens National Bank of Elkins and South Branch Valley Bank of Franklin, was a former county commissioner of Pendleton County and attended Circleville Presbyterian Church.
Friends will be received Wednesday at Basagic Funeral Home Chapel from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating. Interment will follow in North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton. Memorials may be made to Pendleton Nursing Home or Pendleton County Rescue Squad.  From 28 Feb. 2005.

Hazel Elaine VanMeter Nelson, 52, of Woodstock, Va., died Friday, June 17, 2005, at her residence in Woodstock, Va.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with interment to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.   From 18 Jun 2005.

Kathryn L. Nelson
Kathryn L. Coussoule Nelson, 83, a resident of Valley Head and a patient in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center for the past two years, passed away Sunday evening, March 13, 2005, at Davis Memorial Hospital emergency department.
She was born at Glady, a daughter of the late Vernon and Marie Cave Davis.
She was twice married, first to Teddy Coussoule, who preceded her in death and later to Arthur Nelson, who also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, George Coussoule and wife, Sue, of Valley Head; one stepson, Denny Nelson and wife, Pat, of Whitmer; two stepdaughters, Diane Jones and husband, Delbert, and Ermalee Smith and husband, Rich, all of Virginia; two grandsons, Alex and Lukas Coussoule; and eight stepgrandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were an infant brother and a stepgrandchild.
Mrs. Nelson was a homemaker and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was a Presbyterian by faith.
Friends may call from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the funeral chapel with Pastor David Rice officiating. Edith Godwin Nestor, 81, a resident of the Moore community, departed this life Tuesday morning, Aug. 30, 2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She had been in declining health.

She was born Friday, Oct. 12, 1923, at Brushy Fork, Tucker County, a daughter of the late Joe Godwin and Ina Pearl Nestor Godwin.
On April 12, 1943, at Baltimore, Md., she was married to Elmer Nestor, who preceded her in death May 4, 2001. They had celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Clark Nestor and wife, Lois, of Clarksburg and Randy Glenn Nestor and wife, Karen, of the Haddix community; one daughter, Betty Jean Fazenbaker and husband, George, of Doylestown, Ohio; one brother; Denny Godwin and wife, Doris, of Brushy Fork; one sister, Dolly Summerfield of Parsons; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Lee Nestor and Lonnie Ray Nestor; one brother, Jacob Brooks Godwin; and three sisters, May Streets, Sylvia Summerfield and Ruth Bohon.
She attended the schools of Brushy Fork. She worked in the shipyards at Baltimore, Md., during World War II, and for the former Nella’s Nursing Home at White Gables. Along with her husband they owned and operated Nestor’s Farm and Fur and Ginseng Business. She was a noted cook and quilt maker.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Friday, Sept. 2, at 1 p.m. Pastor Pat Cassidy will officiate and interment will follow at Pifer Mountain Cemetery at Saint George. Charles A. Newman
Charles “Chucky” Albert Newman, 40, a resident of Philippi, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, in United Hospital Center.
He was born June 10, 1965, in Barbour County, a son of the late Elizabeth Jane Newman Hoffman.
Mr. Newman is survived by his wife, Darlene Newman, of Philippi; one son, Charles Jacob Newman of Philippi; and one sister, Charlotte Purkey, of Belington.
Mr. Newman was preceded in death by his stepfather, Lemuel Hoffman.
Mr. Newman was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi today from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Jay Mayle officiating. Stephen M. Nikses
Stephen Michael Nikses, 50, a resident of Redwood Drive, Fort Mill, S.C., formerly of Philippi, passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in the Piedmont Medical Center following hip replacement surgery.
He was born in Grafton, the son of the late Steve and Ruth Shreve Nikses Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Brazofsky, one son, Connor Nikses, and one daughter, Kaycee Nikses, all of Fort Mill, S.C.; and one sister, Tonia Zara of Monroe, Ga.
He was the director of the YMCA in York, S.C., and a member of the Dixie Baseball League Umpire Association and a volunteer soccer coach. He was a member of St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, S.C.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home in Philippi Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., the service hour. The Rev. Father Charles McCallister will officiate. Elsie G. Norman
Elsie Gay Norman, 85, a resident of Adrian, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
She was born Feb. 22, 1919, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Enoch William Reed and Minnie Gay Lantz Reed.
She was married to Audia Orval Norman, who preceded her in death June 3, 1977.
Surviving are four daughters, Eunice Opal McKisic and husband, Roy, and Betty Lee Gould and husband, David G., all of Buckhannon, Margaret Lantz and husband, Charles, of Ellamore and Barbara Mitchell of Adrian; three sons, Richard William Norman of Buckhannon, David Keith Norman of Ellamore and Timothy W. Norman of Adrian; two sisters, Ethel Chipps of Buckhannon and Ruth Johns of Flintstone, Md.; one brother, Carl William Reed of Buckhannon; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Kay Norman; three sisters, Mae Ware, Merle Casto and Mary Norman; and two brothers, Kenneth Reed and Enoch Dale Reed.
She was a homemaker and a Christian by faith.

Felma Norman
Felma Ends Norman, 90, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 25, 2005, at her home. She had been in declining health for the past two years.
She was born Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1915, at Mt. Zion, a daughter of the late William and Elva Nestor Ends.
On Oct. 2, 1934, at Parsons, she was married to Jacob F. “Jake” Norman, who preceded her in death during 1955.
Surviving are one son, Robert Jacob Norman and wife, Belva Jean, and one daughter, Ruth Sherlene Mullenax, all of Parsons; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, Hartford and Doyle Ends.
She attended the one-room school at Mt. Zion. She worked for the former Tucker County Hospital for 20 years, and did laundry for various families of Parsons.

Nola K. Norton
Nola Knecht Norton, 81, a former resident of the Crystal Springs community, and more recently a resident of the Holbrook Nursing Home at Buckhannon, departed this life early Friday morning, June 17, 2005, at Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health.
She was born Sunday, Dec. 9, 1923, at Davis, a daughter of the late Milton Knecht and Cora Alice Hinkle Knecht.
On Sept. 13, 1941, she was married to Elmer William “Jim” Norton, who preceded her in death May 12, 1979.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Lydia Sowers of Elkins, Mrs. Betty Lantzs and Mrs. Alice Mae Spants, both of Sayre, Penn.; three granddaughters, Nola Marie Masi Ruble of Kent, Ohio, Julie Ann Louke and Jeanne Christina Kelly, both of Broadview Heights, Ohio; four great-grandchildren; a great-niece and loving caregiver, Brenda Jean Schmidlen of Elkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her husband and parents were one daughter, Delores Jean Sponaugle; and three brothers, Lloyd, Raymond, and Melvin Knecht.
She had attended the schools at Davis, was a homemaker, was a member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary and was a member of the First Church of Christ at Elkins.

Richard H. Norvell
Richard Harold Norvell, 84, a resident of Buckhannon, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
He was born Jan. 6, 1921, at Clarksburg, a son of the late Earnest Bernard and Addie Hinkle Norvell.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jeannine Groah Norvell, whom he married in 1959.
After finishing high school in Upshur County, Mr. Norvell was employed by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad at its Baltimore office for three years. During World War II, he was stationed in Fort Blanding, Fla., serving the Army in personnel placement. After the war, he returned to Upshur County, securing a bachelor of arts degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a master’s degree from West Virginia University. He served his 32-year career at Buckhannon-Upshur High School teaching history and social studies from 1949 to 1982, when he retired. He was active in the United Methodist Church, served in a number of capacities in community service and was a member of the Gideons. He was distinguished by his knowledge, his easy disposition, but most of all by his kindness.

Elizabeth Vashti Nottingham, 93, of Waynesboro, Va., formerly of Durbin, passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Oak Grove Assisted Living Nursing Home in Waynesboro, Va.

Julian Lee Nottingham, 70, of Durbin, passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mary Evelyn Wilmoth Nottingham, 87, of Staunton, Va., formerly of Pocahontas County, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, Va.

Darious L. Nuzum
Darious Lee Nuzum, 66, a resident of Route 1, Philippi, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2005, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 11, 1938, in Barbour County, a son of the late Rex and Eva P. Parker Nuzum.
He was united in marriage June 27, 1964, to the former Doris Jean Perks Nuzum, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by one daughter, Benita and husband, Pastor Howard Swick, of Philippi; two sons, Keith and wife, Sharon Nuzum, and Kevin and wife, Cindy Nuzum, all of Philippi; four sisters, Betty and husband, John Oakes, of Charleston, Karen and husband, Randy Adams, Agnes and husband, Doug Murphy, and Cheryl and husband, Junior Crouse, all of Philippi; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Elbert Nuzum.
Mr. Nuzum was a retired coal miner, having retired from Robinson Run Coal Mines. He was a member of United Mines Worker District 31 and Local 1501, a member of Bigelow Lodge 52 AF&AM and a member of Haven of Hope Worship Center where he served as a deacon.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Walnut St. today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, with Pastor Howard Swick officiating. Elsworth J. Nuzum, 70, a resident of Adrian, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Buckhannon.
He was born Oct. 4, 1935, in Harrison County, a son of the late Palmer Francis Nuzum and Alma May Lucus Nuzum.
On July 15, 1954, he was married to Mary Louise Flowers Nuzum, who survives at Adrian.
Also surviving are eight sons, Buck and wife, Deborah Nuzum, of Buckhannon, Richard and wife, Victoria Nuzum, of Beckley, Allen and wife, Teresa Nuzum, of Minnesota, Michael Nuzum and companion, Betty Sipe, of Buckhannon, Thomas and wife, Beth Nuzum, of Elkins, James Milford and companion, Cheryl, of Moorefield, Tim and wife, Heather Nuzum, of Ireland and John Nuzum of Maryland; six daughters, Joyce Nuzum and companion, William Kidd, of Clarksburg, Marlene Jeffries and companion, Bill Green, of Buckhannon, Leah Nuzum, Sherry Friend and companion, Allen Hamner, of Rock Cave, Mary Nuzum and companion, Robert DeMastes, of Rock Cave and Carolyn and husband, Terry Sipe, of Buckannon; two brothers, Harold Nuzum and Herman Nuzum; five sisters, Betty, Ellen, Minerva, Gladys and Goldie; 28 grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were three brothers, John Nuzum, Howard Nuzum and Eugene Nuzum; one sister Thelma Shaw; and one granddaughter, Elacia Bowman.
He was a coal miner and Christian by faith.
