Blanche A. Edmond
Blanche A. Kirk Edmond, 91, a resident of Elkins, passed away on Thursday, Feb.
24, 2005, at 11:55 a.m. at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center where she had
been a patient since Feb. 1.
Born Jan. 31, 1914, in Tucker County, she was the daughter of the late William
and Stella Nestor Kirk.
She was united in marriage to Ervin Edmond, who proceeded her in death in May of
1969.
Surviving are two daughters; Paula Freeman and husband, Mickey, of Junior and
Edna Wagner and husband, Denver, of Akron Ohio; one son, Kenneth Ray Edmond of
Junior, whom had made his home with his mother for the past 10 years; two
sisters; Elizabeth Silvestor of Coalton, Wanda Annon and husband, Sonny, of Tacy,
and one brother, Bud Kirk and wife, Mary Ann, of Pennsylvania.
Also surviving are 13grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and
nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was one son; Earl Edmond,
four sisters; Edna Kirk Liller, Ruth Kirk Liller, Mary Kirk George and Nora K.
Kirk; and two brothers, Kenneth Kirk and Howard Glenn Kirk.
Mrs. Edmond was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafts and growing flowers. She
attended the Church of the Brethren and loved to sing hymns.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mt. State Memorial
Gardens. The Rev. Terry Gowers of the Valley River Brethren Church will
officiate. Interment will follow.

Elsie V. Edmond
Elsie V. Bodkins Edmond, 82, of Lorain, Ohio, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at her
home after a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 21, 1923, at Norton, and had lived in Lorain, Ohio, since
1952.
She worked in a sewing factory in Elkins and at Glen L. Martin in Baltimore,
Md., prior to her marriage. Mrs. Edmond enjoyed gardening, flowers and
organizing family gatherings.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, William Merl Edmond; daughters, Nancy
Marie Smith of Ijamsville, Md., and Penny Lou Davila of Lorain, Ohio; brothers,
Leslie Herbert Bodkins of Elkins, Lapel Clark Bodkins of Valley Head, Aubrey
Jackson Bodkins of Oberlin, Ohio, and Harvey Joe Bodkins of Amherst, Ohio;
sisters, Gladys Columbus White of Lorain, Ohio, Anna Lena Shifflett of Elkins,
Roselena Teter of Montrose and Cecila Kesel Mullins of Baltimore, Md.; five
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Lee Blessing; her parents,
Herbert and Pearl Hoover Bodkins; sisters, Pally LaVon Goodwin and Monnie Lee
Bodkins; and brothers, Forrest Francis Bodkins, Harry Joe Bodkins and Donnie Lee
Bodkins.
Funeral services were at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway
Ave., Lorain, Ohio, with the Rev. Brian Kenyon officiating. Interment followed

Ruth Eshelman Edwards, 86, of Davis, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2004, at her
residence following a brief illness.

Ruth Eshelman Edwards, 86, of Davis, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at her
residence following a brief illness.
She was born July 12, 1918, in Davis, a daughter of the late George Harry and
Bessie Bell Twigg Eshelman.
She was first married to Robert Glen Burger of Davis, who was killed in action
during World War II. Her second husband, Benjamin “Sonny” Edwards of
Slanesville, preceded her in death in 1972.
She is survived by one daughter, Betsy J. Edwards of Davis; two stepsons, Robert
Edwards of Madison, Wisc., and William Edwards of Cumberland, Md.; and
daughters, Julie Campagna of Reston, Va., Brenda Taylor of Lebanon, Ohio, and
Barbara Callahan of Springboro, Ohio; one sister, Mildred Eshelman of Davis; and
nephews, Dr. Wayne C. and Betty Spiggle of Short Gap and George Allen and Nancy
Spiggle of Prestonsburg, Ky.; special grandchildren, Brandie Taylor, Angela
Messer, Megan Hedrick, Courtney Hedrick and Kelly Ivory; and one special
great-grandchild, Gillian Ann Paugh.
Grandma Ruth was a mother and grandmother to other children too numerous to
list.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Eshelman and Isabell Spiggle.
Mrs. Edwards was a retired school teacher. She was a preschool teacher in the
Dayton Public Schools and a teacher at the East Dayton Christian Academy. She
served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II, was a member of the East
Fourth Street Church of God for more than 42 years and was a lifetime associate
member of the Davis United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Chapel in Davis on Friday from 2 p.m.
to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturday, the body will lie in state from
noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, at the Davis United Methodist Church. The
Rev. James Martin and the Rev. Jeff Winter will officiate. Interment will follow
in the Davis Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rufus J. Elliott
Rufus Junior “June” Elliott, 84, of Boyer, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17,
2005, at his home.
Mr. Elliott was born Aug. 19, 1921, at Boyer, to the late Rufus H. and Clemma E.
Grogg Elliott.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Merlene Doyle Elliott.
Surviving are three sisters, Gretchen Finnemore of Marlinton, Sacca Black of
Northfield, Mass., and Dulcie Stone of Northfork, Va.; and 17 nieces and
nephews.
June attended Durbin United Methodist Church, was a farmer and an assessor for
Pocahontas County. He was a member of Riverside Lodge 124 AF & AM of Cass,
Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Visitation will be at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3
p.m. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at Arbovale Cemetery with the Rev.
Clarice Smith officiating. Military and Masonic rites will be conducted at the

David A. Elmore
David Allen Elmore, 62, a resident of Rock Cave, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005,
at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston.
He was born March 18, 1943, at Walton, a son of the late Perry French Elmore and
Blanche E. Hively Elmore.
On July 11, 1968, he was married to Ann Hamner Elmore, who survives at Rock
Cave.
Also surviving are three daughters, Cheri A. Roy and husband, Randall, of French
Creek, Sandra Regine Lewis and husband, Kevin, of Clarksburg and Michelle Lynn
Green and husband, Chris, of Rock Cave; grandchildren, Michael Allen, Eric
Scott, Emily Mae, Savannah Fae and Baby Lewis due in November; three brothers,
Kenny Elmore and wife, Connie, of Ravenswood, Joe Elmore and wife, Marlene, of
Rock Cave and Don Elmore and wife, Debbie, of Buckhannon; four sisters, Barbara
Wade and husband, Darrell, of Liverpool, Mary Perry and husband, Arnett, of
Buckhannon, Norma McDaniels of Bartow and Betty Cinalli and husband, Danny, of
Burkhannon; many special nieces and nephews; and many special sisters-in-law and
brothers-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Phillip
Wayne Elmore.
He was a carpenter with Breckenridge Construction and a member of Local 236
Carpenters Union. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, son, friend and
Pappaw. He will be greatly missed.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Poling-St. Clair
Funeral Home. On Sunday, he will lie in state at Salem Ridge United Methodist
Church from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Pastor David Jesse will
officiate and interment will follow in Salem Ridge Church Cemetery at Rock Cave.

John Dayton Elmore
John Dayton Elmore, 77, a resident of the Jimtown community, departed this life
Saturday evening, Jan. 29, 2005, at his residence. He had been in declining
health.
He was born Thursday, Oct. 27, 1927, at Norton, a son of the late Fred Woodford
Elmore and Mary Lucy Phillips Elmore.
On July 4, 1952, he was married to the former Elsie Miller, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Calvin A. Elmore, David A. Elmore and girlfriend,
Doretta Bennett, and Roy G. Elmore, all of Jimtown; three daughters, Diana L.
Workman and husband, Brent, of Elkins, Donna Polce and husband, Michael, and
Deborah Conley and husband, Greg, all of Jimtown; one brother, William C. Elmore
and wife, Jeanette, of Jimtown; one half brother, Carl David Elmore and wife,
Carolyn, of Jimtown; one stepsister, Willa Mae Bibey of Belington; four half
sisters, Kathryn Howes and husband, Alfred, of Philippi, Wilma Jean Merrit of
Beverly, Rosalea Miller and husband, Howard, of Mabie, Joyce Bender and husband,
Tommy, of Kingville; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and and several
nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were one brother, Harley Elmore; two
sisters, Loretta Phillips and Lorraine Wolfe; two half brothers, Robert Neal and
Ray Henry Elmore; and one half sister, Shirley Bodkins.
He attended school at Mabie and had served as a rifleman during World War II
with the U. S. Army. He had worked in steel mills for 10 years and in the coal
mines for 23 years. He retired in 1988 from Island Creek Coal Co. at Bayard. He
was a member of the Coalton Veterans of Foreign Wars, was an avid gardener,
loved to sing and play guitar, and was a Methodist by faith.

from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel

Mamie C. Eshbaugh
Mamie Cathleen Hedrick Sampson Eshbaugh, 80, a resident of Delaware Avenue in
Elkins, departed this life Saturday morning, June 4, 2005, at the Ruby Memorial
Hospital at Morgantown. She had been in declining health for the past six
months.
She was born Monday, April 20, 1925, at Durbin, a daughter of the late James
Hedrick and Dolly Wilfong Hedrick.
She was twice married. First to Edward Sampson, who preceded her in death during
1963. On Nov. 28, 1964, at Elkins, she was married to Kenneth Albert Eshbaugh,
who preceded her in death Oct. 20, 2004.
Surviving are one son, Richard Sampson and wife, Sandra, of Beverly; one half
brother, Tom Hedrick of Lumberport; one half sister, Dolly Rampley of Baltimore,
Md.; seven grandchildren, Christina Hinchman, Cindy Burkey, Missy Anello,
Melinda Taylor and Ronald Sampson, all of Elkins, Mary Jo Daniels of Beverly and
Nancy Swecker of Cleveland, Ohio, two stepgrandchildren, Mary Johnson and Susan
Moats, both of Elkins; 14 great-grandchildren and seven
great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husbands were three daughters,
Sandra K. Sampson Rohr, Cheryl Sampson Swecker and Lois Eshbaugh; two sons,
Ronald Pete Sampson and Jeffery “Jeff” Sampson; five brothers, Walter, Ken,
Harry, Arthur and Peck Hedrick; one half brother, Calvin Hedrick; one half
sister, Nettie Brewster; two grandchildren, Steven Rohr and Michael Swecker;
five stepdaughters, Stella Arnold, Unavale Burns, Eileen Martine, Helen Kosonic
and Genieve Gregory; and one stepson, Delbert “Buck” Sampson.
Mamie had worked in the housekeeping department at Nella’s Nursing Home for
many years, enjoyed spending time with her family, most of all her grandchildren
and will be greatly missed. She was a Nazarene by faith.

Tuesday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Terry A.

Goldie N. Evans
Goldie Nora Evans, 91, of Davis, passed away Feb. 17, 2005, at Garrett County
Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Md.
She was born Nov. 15, 1913, in Leadmine, a daughter of the late Foster Hartley
and Susie Martin Hartley Mullenax.
She was preceded in death by thee husbands, John Gorsuch, Harley Varner and
Homer Evans; five brothers, Alfred, Lester, Luther, Walter and Gene; and one
sister, Ethel “Tootie” Gay.
Survivors include one brother, Anthony W. and Helen Gail Mullenax Sr. of
Salisbury, N.C.; and two sisters, Edith Allman of Davis and Alice Marie
“Peggy” Morgan of Reading, Pa.
Mrs. Evans was a retired housekeeping employee at Blackwater Falls State Park.
She was a member of Davis United Methodist Church and FOE 936 Auxiliary.

Kenneth W. Evans
Kenneth William Evans, 74, of Horse Shoe Run, passed away June 28, 2005, at
Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Md.
He was born Feb. 4, 1931, in Leadmine, a son of the late Herbert “Bus” and
Ruth Elizabeth Humphrey Evans.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Shaffer Evans, whom he married May 29, 1954.
Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth William and wife, Karen Delsignore Evans,
of Thomas and Perry Luke Evans of Horse Shoe Run; two grandchildren, Andrea Lea
and husband, Todd Stalnaker, and Andrew William Evans; three brothers, Ernest W.
Evans of Porterwood, Robert L. Evans of Horse Shoe Run and Theodore D. Evans of
Oakland, Md.; and two sisters.
Mr. Evans was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a
heavy equipment operator with Buffalo Coal Co., retiring after 30 years. He was
a lifelong member of Thomas United Methodist Church, National Rifle Association
and Mt. Top Hunt Club.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Hinkle Funeral Home.

Sherry D. Evans
Sherry Denise Stoops Evans, 40, of Circleville and formerly of Lake Washington
at Washington, died at her home Saturday, Sept. 3, after a 13-year battle with
cancer.
She was born Dec. 18, 1964, in Parkersburg, the daughter of Thomas “Larry”
and Carolyn Stoops, who survive.
Sherry was a member of Pendleton County LSIC, a Sunday school teacher at Vienna
Baptist Church and an inspirational speaker for Relay for Life and other
organizations. She was a homemaker and mother and a graduate of Parkersburg High
School with the class of 1982. She attended Riverton United Methodist Church and
Vienna Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is also survived by her husband, Paul Randal
“Randy” Evans; a son, Zachary Paul Evans of Circleville; a daughter, Kaci
Alaine Evans of Circleville; brothers, Thomas Stoops and Shane Stoops and wife,
Angie, all of Parkersburg; maternal grandmother, Irene Spence; paternal
grandfather, Lawrence Stoops; mother-in-law, Patsy Pittman and husband, Stanley;
brother-in-law, Richard Evans and wife, Debbie; sister-in-law, Terrye Casto and
husband, Craig; several aunts and uncles and great-aunts and great-uncles; and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, George Spence; paternal
grandmother, Maxine Stoops; maternal great-grandparents, John and Marie Rose and
Martin and Winifred Spence; and father-in-law, Paul Evans.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at Riverton United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Barbara Rexroad officiating and at Vienna Baptist
Church at a later date.

Virgil Wendell Everson, 80, a resident of Route 2, Point Pleasant Road,
Belington, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Everson was born Jan. 7, 1925, at East Bend community in Belington, a son of
the late Roy and Madge Wagner Everson.
Surviving are five sisters, Virginia Wilmouth of Philippi, Mary Nell Wilmouth of
Mogadore, Ohio, Helen Ketchem of Freeport, Ohio, Kathern Foy of Martinsburg and
Geneva Poae of Flint, Mich.; and five brothers, Bertsell Everson of Burns,
Tenn., Don Everson of Flint, Mich., Tommy Everson of Akron, Ohio, Raymond
Everson of Flint, Mich., and Cecil Everson of Atwater, Ohio.
Mr. Everson was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Everson and Gladys Booth;
and four brothers, Homer Everson, Russell Everson, Billie Everson and Denzil
Everson.
Mr. Everson worked for Badger Coal Co. as a miner. Mr. Everson was a farmer and
and avid hunter and a member of Belington Church of Christ.

Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the

Helen Evick, 93, a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away
Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

Helen Evick
Helen Marie Poe Evick, 93, a resident of the ERCC for the past four years and a
former resident of the Glenmore community, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13,
2005, at 2:15 p.m. in the Davis Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient
since Tuesday.
Born March 17, 1912, at Harpertown, she was the daughter of the late William
Arthur and Laurel Bell Mouse Poe.
On Aug. 23, 1929, she was united in marriage to Arthur P. Evick, who preceded
her in death on Feb. 26, 1990.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Anna Ruth Collet and Carolyn Stalnaker and
husband, Jim, all of Elkins; a son, Donald Evick and wife, Tony, of Lewisburg; a
foster daughter, Jane Bond and husband, Gary, of Seminole, Fla.; and a
son-in-law, J.D. Smith of Fort Ashby.
Also surviving are two sisters, Laura Hart of Fort Myers, Fla., and Sammy
Jaharias and husband, Robert, of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Bruce Poe and wife,
Sarah, of Hagerstown, Md.; two granddaughters, eight grandsons, nine
great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, several nieces, nephews and a
host of friends.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a daughter, Marilyn
Smith; three sisters, Flora Phillips, Juanita Nestor and Hilda Jones; and four
brothers, Harry, Bud, Elmer and Forest Poe.
Helen’s family is noted in the Randolph County West Virginia History Families.
The ancestry and descendants of her grandfathers, Lewis Poe and Adam Mouse, are
noted in the year of the 1906 Metropolis Registry of Elkins and the 1890-1990
Elkins Centennial. Helen was a direct descendant of Edgar Allen Poe, the famed
poet.
She was also a homemaker and a member of the Central Baptist Church at Midland,
where she played the piano. Helen had been playing the piano since the age of
12. After becoming a patient at ERCC, she was well known for visiting other
residents, participating in all activities and playing the piano. She was a
former active member of the Randolph County Senior Center and represented the
county as the Randolph County Belle at Glenville. Helen was a special woman who
loved her life, family and friends.
She will be greatly missed and remain in the hearts of all who loved her and
whose lives she touched.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel after 6 p.m.
today. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner Chapel on Sunday, Oct.
16, 2005, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Basil Hensley of Elkins will officiate and
Willie Sparks, a close friend, will be speaking. Interment will follow in the
Elkins Memorial Gardens (formerly the IOOF cemetery) at Elkins.

Eva Pearl Waybright Eye, 93, of Hendricks, went to walk the streets of gold with
her Lord on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at 5:55 p.m. at the home of her daughter,
Mary Ann Flanagan, in Dryfork.
She was born Sept. 9, 1911, in Oceola, a daughter of the late Don and Ira Bell
Teter Waybright.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Eye, in 1994.
She is survived by four sons, Okey William Eye and wife, Nancy, of Hendricks,
Ivan Eye Jr. and wife, Maggie, of Painesville, Ohio, Hoy Michael Eye and wife,
Pam, of Hendricks, and Donald Eye and wife, Mary, of Red Creek; six daughters,

Lorean Fowler of Paw Paw and Shirley McBee of Bowden; 35 grandchildren, 41
great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three sons, one daughter, four brothers, three
sisters and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Eye was a housewife and the oldest living member of the Hendricks United
Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
and on Sunday at the Flanagan Hill United Methodist Church from noon until 1
p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. John Morrison will officiate. Interment will
follow in Flanagan Hill Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the
