Albert P. DiBacco, 92, of Thomas, passed away Nov. 8, 2005, at Cortland Acres
Nursing Home.
Funeral arrangements are in complete and are under the direction of Hinkle
Funeral Home.
From 9 Nov 2005.
Albert P. DiBacco
Albert P. “Birdie” DiBacco, 92, of Thomas, departed this life following an
extended illness Tuesday morning, Nov. 8, 2005, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home
in Thomas.
He was born at Thomas Feb. 26, 1913, a son of the late Venanzio and Paolella
DiCesare DiBacco.
He had never married.
He is survived by two brothers, Vincent F. DiBacco of Thomas, with whom he
lived, and Abe L. DiBacco and wife, Ellen, of Martinsburg. Also surviving are
his sister-in-law, Edith Ross DiBacco of Thomas, and many loving nieces and
nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Romeo (Marie) Silvester of Coalton
and Sister Francesca DiBacco, SSJ, Mount St. Joseph, of Wheeling; and four
brothers, Carmon “Zeke” DiBacco, Harry “Riggie” DiBacco and Guido J.
DiBacco, all of Thomas, and John V. DiBacco of Elkins. Also preceding him in
death were his niece, Helen “Dolly” Silvester of Elkins; his nephews, Paul
A. DiBacco of Elkins and James Vincent DiBacco of Martinsburg; and his
grandnephew, John Anthony Ferruso of Vienna. A brother and sister died in
infancy.
Mr. DiBacco was a graduate of Thomas High School and a veteran of World War II.
He served with the 43rd General Hospital, a forward unit that participated in
the invasions and liberation of North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France. He took
great pride in his service of his country. He was a life member of the Thomas
Council 2010, the Knights of Columbus of Thomas; a life member of Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 896; a member of the American Legion Post 14; and a member of
the Loyal Order Moose Lodge 120, all of Martinsburg. He was also a member of the
St. Thomas choir, a daily Communicant and an acolyte at the weekday and Saturday
Vigil Masses at his church. Albert loved to dance and play the piano until a
progressive disability forced him to curtail these activities in his mid-senior
years. As a former cook and baker, his fame was widespread within his community,
and was especially noted for his unique lemon pound cake. He delighted in making
other people happy, and he truly was a veritable humanitarian in his own right.
He was an inspiration to many who knew him, and he lived his life placing his
faith first. He was known to many as a lifelong friend with a characteristic
smile and a wonderful sense of humor, who always enjoyed a good conversation.
For all of his good deeds and strong faith in the Lord, Albert may also justly
echo the words of St. Paul: “I have cometed well; I have finished the race; I
have kept the faith. From now on, the Crown of Righteousness awaits me, which
the Lord; The Just Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but
to all who have longed for His appearance.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
The family will hold a private viewing from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at Hinkle
Funeral Home in Davis. A public viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at
