Helen J. Bagley
Helen Johnson Bagley, 92, passed away Feb. 28, 2005, in White Plains, N.Y.
She was born Sept. 21, 1912, in Elkins to Thomas and Lulu Hall Johnson, long time residents of Elkins. Thomas “T.M.” was a tailor and owned a cleaning, pressing and tailoring business for many years. He passed away in 1962, and Lulu died the following year.
Helen graduated from Riverside School in Elkins and like her three brothers and two sisters, she also graduated from West Virginia State College. After college she moved to New York City, where she married Chester Anderson Bagley, a certified public accountant. In 1958, Helen and Chester moved to White Plains, N.Y., where their son Michael finished high school, after having attended elementary and junior high school in Elkins. They provided support and encouragement for Michael through college and law school. Peggy Bagley, their daughter, was raised in White Plains and with similar love and support graduated from high school and college. Both Peggy and Michael returned home to be close to Helen after their father’s death in 1989.
Helen was a resident of White Plains until her death and was the last survivor of the six Johnson children for more than 10 years. Her life was devoted to family, friends and community. She was the family Matriarch for many years and took that role very seriously. She oversaw all family matters. She mediated family disputes, advised, counseled, supported, and nurtured. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren
deeply.
Throughout her life, Helen maintained a keen intellect which was often evident in her use of humor, irony and benevolent sarcasm to teach the important lessons of life. She carried a pleasant smile every day and laughed easily and often. She will be remembered for her extraordinary ability to make others happy through her own joy and happiness.
Helen is survived by her son, Michael Bagley; her daughter, Peggy Bagley Glover; and by her sister-in-law and close friend, Geraldine Johnson Bacon. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Michelle Bagley, Troy Bagley, Andre Glover and Tyler Glover; three great-grandchildren, Sierrah, Kristal, and Destiney Bagley; three nephews, Ralph Johnson, Thomas Johnson and Joseph Batchelor; several cousins and many friends.
Although she left home shortly after high school, Elkins was always dear to her heart. She returned often when her parents were living, and occasionally thereafter. She maintained the friendships that she developed growing-up in Elkins and spoke as often as possible with people she knew there. She never tired of learning about the well-being of people and families that she remembered, prayed for, and cared about, for many, many years.
On Sunday, the family will host an afternoon gathering of family and friends in remembrance of Helen and to honor her for a life well lived. The gathering will be at the family home, 2 Maryton Rd. White Plains, N.Y. 10603.  From 14 Mar 2005.

H. Glenn Bailey
H. Glenn Bailey, 72, of Route 3, Buckhannon, Hinkleville community, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at his home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
He was born Sept. 1, 1933, in Upshur County, a son of the late Troy and Donnas Simmons Bailey.
He was united in marriage Dec. 19, 1959 to Shirley Ann Sparks Bailey, who survives.
He is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Donna Bailey of Buckhannon; two grandsons, J.R. Bailey of Buckhannon and Bradley and wife, Megan Bailey, of Buckhannon; one great-grandson, Cody Allen Bailey of Buckhannon; one sister; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Glen was retired from Moore Business Forms with 26 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served in the U.S. Navy. He belonged to the U.S.S. Wisconsin Association, was a member of Good Hope Tabernacle Church, where he sang in the church choir, and was a church trustee.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. Mr. Bailey will be moved to Good Hope Tabernacle Sunday where he will lie in state from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Pastor Holly J. Kay Bailey
Kay Bailey of Morgantown died peacefully in her sleep July 23, 2005, in Logan, Utah. Her death came after a difficult fight with cancer.
Kay was born in Sutton on Feb. 25, 1935, the only daughter of Frank and Lera Moyers Bailey.
She was raised among friends and family and excelled at school, graduating at the top of her high school class in Martinsburg. She attended West Virginia University on full scholarship and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in library science in 1956. While at WVU, she was active in Kappa Phi, Methodist Women’s Sorority. Her greatest involvement at WVU was with Wesley Foundation, where she met many lifelong friends and her husband, Dr. John Manley Dennison. They were married in Old Drummond Chapel in 1956. Their only son, John Robert, was born in Madison, Wis., the following year. Their lives together included stays in Huntsville, Ala., Madison, Wis., Urbana, Ill., Knoxville, Tenn. and Chapel Hill, N.C.
Kay completed course work for a master’s degree in linguistics at the University of North Carolina in 1971. She graduated with a master’s degree in English at North Carolina Central University in 1973, where she subsequently taught for several years. Kay was the first white graduate of this formerly black college. While in North Carolina, she was active in Chapel Hill Civic Club and Lion’s Club. She was married to Dan Cheek in 1973, and for more than seven years the two enjoyed gardening, antique refinishing and home restoration.
In 1981, Kay returned to WVU to complete course work for teacher certification in West Virginia. She began a new career as librarian and English teacher in public schools in Preston and Tucker counties. Kay served at Bruceton Elementary/Middle School in English and as librarian; Rowlesburg Elementary, Preston High and Preston Elementary as librarian; and Terra Alta and East Preston as part-time social studies teacher.
Moving to Tucker County, she was at Tucker County High School as a full-time English teacher, and later at Davis-Thomas Elementary/Middle School as full-time librarian. She was also a part-time adult education teacher for GED aspirants. After her retirement in 2001, Kay continued to enjoy working with students in libraries. She spent parts of three years as a volunteer at the McCurdy Mission School in Espanola, N.M., where she thoroughly enjoyed her newfound friends and students and the chance to make a difference. She was responsible for automating the elementary library with another woman, and the McCurdy volunteer coordinator said, “Kay’s work will influence many lives for many years.”
First and foremost in her career, Kay was a teacher. She was the granddaughter, daughter, wife, aunt, mother, and mother-in-law of teachers. During her long and varied career, she taught elementary, junior high, high school and college students, as well as adult learners and senior citizens. Her topics included social studies, special education, history and English. She also taught English as a second language to countless foreign students from all over the world. She was most at home in the numerous libraries that she organized, nurtured and ran. She had no greater joy than to help her students and was rewarded with lasting memories and gratitude from countless students from Illinois, Tennessee, North Carolina, West Virginia, New Mexico and around the world. Kay’s faith and church were central to her life. Raised a Methodist, she embraced Methodism in her life and was a participating member of her community church wherever she lived. She was active with United Methodist Women, the Mission Society, and Women’s Christian Temperance Union. She was a lay speaker for many years and assisted the pastors in Preston and Tucker counties. She had been active as a youth volunteer at Drummond Chapel United Methodist Church in the 1980s.
Organizations to which Kay belonged are many. In recent years, she was instrumental in the revitalization of the Lion’s Club in Davis-Thomas; attended the IOOF, Rebekah Lodge 274, in Thomas; Mended Hearts Chapter 209, Morgantown; and she supported and worked yearly on behalf of Camp Mended Hearts for children in West Virginia.
Kay found much time and pleasure in working for the Daughters of the American Revolution, and belonged to the Elizabeth Ludington Hagans Colonel John Evans Chapter. She served as librarian and chaired several committees.
In honor of her father, Frank, and his early teaching years in a one-room school, Kay was the benefactor for the Frank Bailey Collection housed at the Folklore Center, Fairmont State University. A number of first and early editions of books and memorabilia regarding early West Virginia education were given in honor of the state so much loved by her and by Frank.
She is also survived by her mother, Lera Bailey of Logan; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John Robert and Bess Dennison; and three grandchildren, Sarah Samantha Dennison, Jim Dennison and Katy Morgan, all of Cache Valley, Utah. Kay is also survived by an aunt, Ginny Moyers Dennison of Charleston and Utah; an aunt, Hilda Bailey Skidmore of Parkersburg; and numerous cousins, including Icie Mitchell and Marilyn Gillenwater of Frametown, Braxton County; and Sandra Watson of Utah.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at Westover United Methodist Church in Westover.  From 2 Aug 2005.

Ralph J. Bailey
Ralph J. Bailey, 76, a resident of Route 4, Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
He was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Upshur County, a son of the late Ralph Bailey and Nina Simmons Bailey Claypool Grose.
On July 5, 1964, he was married to Connie Shipman Bailey, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Kevin R. Bailey of Buckhannon; his stepfather, Clyde Grose of Buckhannon; and two brothers, Harold D. Bailey and wife, Elaine, of Buckhannon and Robert M. Bailey of Santa Barbara, Calif.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bernard Claypool.
He was a meter reader for the city of Buckhannon. He was a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and National Rifle Association.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Poling officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery at Buckhannon where Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion, VFW Post 3663 and Disabled American Veterans Posts 5 and 36 will conduct graveside services. Sheri L. Bailey
Sheri Lee Bailey, 66, of Carthage, N.C., died in her home Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005.
She was born June 27, 1939, in Weston, the daughter of the late Ruby Jefferies Moody.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Martin Bailey Jr. in January 2000.
She is survived by her only child, Christopher M. Bailey and wife, Kimberly, of West End, N.C.; and her two grandchildren, Alexandra and Christopher Bailey II.
She graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon with a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1970. She received a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and early childhood from Davis & Elkins College in 1982. Sheri, along with her late husband, Aubrey, worked tirelessly in the mental health field for much of her life. She retired as the nursing supervisor of Samarkand Manor, State of North Carolina Training School System. Sheri was last working as a registered nurse at First Health of the Carolinas, Moore Regional Hospital’s Psychiatric Unit until her diagnosis in March. She was an active member of Southern Pines United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Southern Pines United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the church with the Rev. Neal D. Baisi
Neal Daniel Baisi, 81, of Charlton Heights, died Monday, March 7, 2005, in Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston. He was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Norton, the son of the late Dominick and Olga Tromintina Baisi.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Baisi, and his brother, Lou Baisi.
Neal was a member of St. Anthony Shrine Catholic at Boomer and an Army veteran of World War II. Beginning in 1952, Neal served as basketball coach at West Virginia Institute of Technology where he established a win-loss record of 319-76. He won four conference championships and two state tournaments. Coach Baisi served as Tech’s athletic director for more than 30 years and also held positions within the institution as the chair of physical education and dean of students. Neal was named Tech Alumni of the Year in 1989 and he was inducted into the Tech Hall of Fame in 1989 and again in 1998.
Surviving are children, Patrick Albert Baisi of Glen Ferris, Michael William Baisi of Beckley and Deborah Biasi Lively of Bradley; brother, Albert Baisi of St. Paul, Minn.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Neal D. Baisi Athletic Center on the Tech Campus in Montgomery with Father Paul Wharton officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London. O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be mad to the Neal D. Alma F. Baker
Alma Fay Baker, 77, of Grafton, was called home to be with her Lord forevermore from the Wallace B. Murphy Nursing Care Home in Grafton, Monday, Oct. 31, 2005.
She was born April 29, 1928, at Harding, the only daughter of the late Paul and Lena Findley Bennett.
She attended high school at Belington and Webster Springs.
She was married to the late Clarence Luther Baker for 18 years. He preceded her in death March 27, 1966.
Of this union, surviving are five sons, Douglas Paul Baker, Danny Michael Baker, David Luther Baker, Gary Robert Baker and Dale Allen "Dink" Baker, all of Grafton; one daughter, Louise Ann Baker Leach of Elkins; one brother, Jennings M. Bennett of Webster Springs; two aunts, Wanda Bennett of Belington and Hellen Knotts of Lewisburg; one first cousin, Charolette Pingley of Huttonsville; five grandchildren, Angela M. Baker McVicker, Nicholas L. Baker of Grafton, Erica D. Leach and Mitchel D. Baker of Morgantown and Tabatha D. Baker of Fairmont; two great-grandchildren, Gage D. McVicker and Lyndsey J. Baker of Grafton.
She was employed by North Central West Virginia Community Action as the Taylor County director for 26 years. She is a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial City 3081. She also was a member and held office in the Naomia Chapter 12 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Faye Baker was an active member of the Beulah Baptist Church of Pruntytown.
She will lay in state at Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from noon to 1 p.m., the service hour. The Rev. Richard McDonald will officiate and interment will follow at Woodsdale Memorial Park Cemetery off U.S. Route 50 West Pruntytown. Margaret E. Baker
Margaret Earle Baker of Bronxville, N.Y., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 23, 2005.
“Margie” was born July 23, 1924, to Delbert and Pearl Edwards Earle in Elkins.
She graduated with the class of 1941 from Elkins High School and attended Davis & Elkins College in her hometown before graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va. While in college, she played basketball, was a member of the drama club and was known for her “jitterbug” acumen.
She met the love of her life, David Mohn Baker, of Lewisburg, Pa., in 1951 while both were working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. They were married in 1952 in her Elkins childhood home and moved to Bronxville in 1955. They became members of the Reformed Church of Bronxville and were blessed with three children, Jeffrey Earle, Nancy Ruth and Susan Elizabeth.
Margie loved raising her family with David until his untimely death in 1963. She returned immediately to school, earning a master’s degree in elementary education from Hunter College in New York City in 1965. She taught fourth and fifth grades in the Yonkers Public School System until retiring in 1987. During this time, Margie was invited to join the Upsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society of women teachers. She was proud to be a member of the John Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In her 40s, Margie took up golf with a fervor and was a member of the Woodlands Ladies Golf Club at Saxon Woods. She enjoyed playing bridge at the Bronxville Women’s Club and was an accomplished photographer and captured her trips to Africa, Central America, Alaska and Europe for all to see.
She was blessed to have five grandsons and devoted her time to each and every one of them. Her unconditional love far extended the bounds of her family and included friends of all ages, faiths and backgrounds. She was “Grandma Baker” to so many children and “Auntie Margie” to young women as far away as South Africa and Zimbabwe. At 76 years old, she came to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as she had done several years ago. Stating, “I want more of God in my life,” she determined to be more bold for the Lord in her remaining days.
Margie is survived by her dedicated children, Jeffrey Baker of Tuckahoe, N.Y., daughter, Nancy, and son-in-law, Hans Berger, of Elmsford, N.Y., and Susan and son-in-law, Martin Annunziata, of Valhalla, N.Y. “Grandma” leaves grandsons Jesse Ghiorzi and Matthew Berger of Elmsford, N.Y., and Joseph, Daniel and Martin Annunziata of Valhalla, N.Y. She will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
In addition, she is survived by her sister, Virginia, and brother-in-law, Russell Isner, of Elkins; nephew, Richard “Dick” Earle of Elkins; niece, Margaret Ann Andrews of North Carolina; and nephew, David Isner of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald “Pete” Earie, also from Elkins.

Linda C. Baldwin
Mrs. Linda Carol Baldwin, 61, of Hamlin, departed this life Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at St. Mary’s Hospital at Huntington.
She was born April 12, 1944, at Richwood, a daughter of the late John and Irene Metz Hanna.
Mrs. Baldwin was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by one son, John David Baldwin; one brother, David Pritt; one sister, Sandra Smith; and one stepson, Warren C. Teter Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Baldwin; one son, Jeffrey Teter of Marlinton; three daughters, Pamela Call of Hurricane, Teresa Morrison and Samantha Teter, both of Marlinton; two stepsons, Roger and Gary Teter of Marlinton; one stepdaughter, Melissa Baldwin of Ohio; one brother, Roger Bennett of Oklahoma; one sister, Diana Wilkins of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several stepgrandchildren and an additional host of friends and relatives.

Edna P. Ball
Edna Patterson Ball, 92, a resident of Washington and Lower Burrell, Pa., and since 1976, a resident of Tallahassee, Fla., departed this life Thursday, April 28, 2005, in Tallahassee. She had been in declining health.
She is survived by one son, Larry Ball; and one daughter, Linda Jones and husband, Robert, all of Tallahassee, Fla.; one sister, Lucy Edmonds of Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren, Rick Jones, Gregg Jones and wife, Lisa, Ryan Jones and Jeannie Beth Rivera and husband, Shon, all of Tallahassee, Fla., and Lisa Ball Pacek of Tarentum, Pa.; five great-grandchildren, Travis, Brayden and Mckenzie Jones and Chase and Aleah Rivera; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by her husband, Farlen Ball, in 1960; a great-granddaughter, Kayla Crimbley; six brothers and three sisters.
She was a retired orthodontic assistant and was a member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church where she was very active in the Koinonia Sunday school class.
Final rites were conducted Monday, May 2, and interment followed at the Tallahassee Memory Gardens. Genevieve V. Ball
Genevieve Violet Ball, 84, of Aurora, passed away Jan. 20, 2005, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.
She was born April 26, 1920, in Aurora, the daughter of the late Grover Henry and Lavine Ora Henline White.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Ivan Ball, on April 26, 2003. Also preceding her in death were one brother, Denver White, and two sisters, Norine Mitter and Vivian Ball.
Surviving family members include one son, Bernard A. Ball of Aurora; two daughters, Bernadette M. Lipscomb of Charles Town and Byrldene O. White of Marion, Ohio; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Ball was a homemaker and was a member of the Mt. Grove Assembly of God Church at Horse Shoe Run.
Friends will be received at the Aurora Memorial Building today from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Texas United Methodist Church in Horse Shoe Run with the Rev. Stephanie ReneÈ Ball, 24, a resident of Valley Head, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 8, 2005, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following an extended illness.
She was born Feb. 25, 1981, in Elkins, a daughter of Warren David Ball of St. George and Evelyn Kay Wildman Brown of Elkins.
Also surviving are her companion, John Coprio of Valley Head; stepfather, Everett Allen Brown of Elkins; brother, Mathew Warren David Ball of Elkins; and two sisters, Khrystyna Eden Ball and LeCynda Seirra Ball, both of Elkins. Paternal grandmother Dorothea Ball of St. George, maternal grandmother Rose Martin of Elkins, Maternal stepmaternal grandfather William O’Dell of Elkins, John Coprio’s parents, John and Jane Coprio, several aunts and uncles and her three cats also survive.
Preceding her in death were her paternal grandfather, George Ball; maternal great-grandmother, Goldie Poe; and a special uncle, Miles “Bill” Glendening.
Stephanie attended the schools of Tucker County and was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1999. She was employed as the administrative assistant for the Department of Public Safety at Snowshoe Resort.

Winifred Taylor Ball, 90, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 31, 2005, at Broaddus Hospital at Philippi. She had been in declining health.

Winifred T. Ball
Winifred Taylor Ball, 90, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 31, 2005, at Broaddus Hospital at Philippi. She had been in declining health.
She was born Monday, Oct. 12, 1914, at Elkins, a daughter of the late James Jay Taylor and Lota Weese Taylor.
On Nov. 3, 1935, she was married to Odra N. Ball, who preceded her in death Feb. 10, 2000.
Surviving are three sisters, Rella Doerr of Elkins, Gladys Harris and Rose Chenoweth, both of Akron, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great- nieces and great-great-nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were two brothers, Gilbert and Stuart Taylor; and four sisters, Kathleen Snyder, Mildred Warren, Grace Judy and Ella Mae Taylor.
Winifred was a graduate of Elkins High School, attended Davis & Elkins College and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps. She had worked as a clerk at the former Memorial General Hospital and People’s Life Insurance Co., was a member of the Delphia Rebekah Lodge 62 and the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins Saturday, Sept. 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. Julia Barnhart
Julia Barnhart, 53, a resident of 1500 Taylor Ave., Elkins, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2005, in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born Sept. 1, 1951, in Blue Creek, Ohio, a daughter of Ruth Lillian Bennington of Elkins and the late Leo Forrest Bennington.
On Oct. 28, 1972 in Oakland, Md., she was married to Johnny Neil Barnhart, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are two sons, Victor Neil and Scotty Neil Barnhart, both of Elkins; a daughter, Angela Renae Carr and companion, Paul Shahan, of Elkins; five brothers, Warren Bennington of Roswell, N.M., Roger Bennington of Hillsboro, Ohio, Robert, Bruce and Joseph Bennington, all of Blue Creek, Ohio; a granddaughter, Lacey Carr; a special grandson, Wesley Shahan; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Violet Barr
Violet Barr, 82, of the Arbors at Fairmont Nursing Facility and formerly of the Wadestown area, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at Fairmont General Hospital.
Mrs. Barr was born March 5, 1923, at Wadestown, a daughter of the late Homer Tennant and Estella Howard Tennant Blue.
She was retired from Westinghouse in Fairmont where she worked for more than 35 years in the sealed beam department. She was a member of the Wadestown United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, David Barr of Mill Creek; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Gene Hebb of Fairmont; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Marjorie Tennant of Bear, Del.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty Straight of Monumental and Carol and Jim Parsons of Buffalo; four grandchildren, Diana Brady, Deana Corley, Michael Hebb and Ruth Hebb; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Paul Barr; one son, John Barr in 1969; one brother, Albert Tennant; and one sister, Julia Huffman.

Nancy L. Bartelli
Nancy L. Bartelli, 65, a resident of the Norton community, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005c at 2:31 a.m., at her residence. She had been in failing health, however, death was sudden and unexpected.
Born July 5, 1939, at Elkins, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Martha Moran Triplett.
In February 1957, she was united in marriage to Tony Bartelli, who survives in Norton.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Robert Bartelli of Lewisburg and Jeffery W. Bartelli and wife, Roxanna, of Norton; one sister, Carolyn Sutherland of Coalton; one grandson, Tony Bartelli of Norton; and several nieces and nephews including three special nieces, Roxanne Knicely, Ranae Chewning and Robin Miller.
She was employed at the former Grant Co. and at the former G.C. Murphy Co., where she worked for 10 years. She was also well known for making crafts and selling them at the Elkins Flea Market. She was a Methodist by faith and a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and aunt and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
At the request of the deceased, the remains were cremated. Interment of the cremains will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials in Nancy’s name be made to Davis Home Care or the Belington Clinic. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Nancy L. Dorothy J. Bartlett
Dorothy Jane "Dottie" Bartlett, 74, a resident of Wellington Heights, Philippi, passed away Friday, May 20, 2005, in Grafton City Hospital.
She was born July 30, 1930, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Delbert O. Osborne and Laura Bell Heed Osborne.
She was twice married, first to Hattan Moore Jr., who preceded her in death, and second to Dale K. Bartlett, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Laura Ann Moore of Florida and Vickey Lyn Thompson of Lynchburg, Va.; two stepdaughters, Debbie Matko of Philippi and Pam Winston of North Carolina; four grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, one great-grandchild and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bartlett was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Elkins. Mrs. Bartlett was a graduate of Calvin Coolage High School in Washington, D.C.
Friends were received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m and will be received today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Nancy L. Bartelli
Nancy L. Bartelli, 65, a resident of the Norton Community, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at 12:31 a.m., at her residence. She had been in failing health however her heath was sudden and unexpected.

Timothy L. Bartlett
Timothy Lee Bartlett, 44, passed away Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004.
He was born Sept. 14, 1960, in Elkins, a son of Walter R. Bartlett and Doris Jean Conrad Bartlett of Elkins.
Also surviving are his fiance, Tandra Linger of Weston; one sister, Rae Ellen Harris of Severna Park, Md.; and two nephews, William and Aidan Harris.
Proceeding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Omar and Myrtle Bartlett; maternal grandparents, Josephine Conrad and Richard Conrad; and an uncle, Herman L. Conrad.
He was a graduate of High Point University in North Carolina and was currently employed by the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a Protestant by faith.

Mary Ellen Lawrence Batman, 97, of Petersburg, formerly of Kanawha County, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin.

Donald Baughman Sr.
Donald Brooks Baughman Sr., 86, a resident of 210 S. Main St. Philippi, passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, in Louis A Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born Nov. 24, 1918, in Philippi, a son of the late Ernest Leander and Anna Phillips Baughman.
He was united in marriage to the former Harriet Kennedy, who survives in Philippi.
Surviving are three sons, Robert E. Baughman and wife, Paula, and Terry L. “Pickle” Baughman, all of Philippi and Donald Brooks “Rookie” Baughman of Baltimore, Md.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Peanut Baughman.
Mr. Baughman was a businessman and ran Baughman Groceries in Philippi and was also the former mayor of Philippi for 14 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of the American Legion Post 44 and was a Methodist by faith.
Friends were received today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Amy Louise Beale, 88, a former resident of Slatyfork and a resident of Manassas, Va., passed away Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, in Manassas, Va.
She was born Aug. 9, 1917, at Thomas, a daughter of the late Howard Daniel Rinehart and the late Flora Ethel Fisher Rinehart.
She was married to Leroy Howard Beale, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Kennedy and husband, John, of Manassas, Va., and Patricia Gott and husband, James, of San Jose, Calif.
Mrs. Beale was a homemaker.

Kevin D. Beckner
Kevin D. Beckner, 38, a resident of Route 1, Volga, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, in the Charleston Area Medical Center.
He was born July 17, 1967, in Buckhannon, a son of the late James McClain and Ellen Marie Ware McClain, who survives at Volga.
Also surviving are special friend and companion, Terri Shaw and family of Philippi; one daughter, Ashley Beckner of Teter; a special gift from God, Gailene and husband, Terry Knicely, of Hodgesville; three aunts, Evelyn Lemasters of Fairmont, Brenda Hickman of Buckhannon and Kathy Jo Haid of Ohio; and one uncle, Larry Ware of Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Misty McClain, and two infant siblings.
He worked for Neels Fencing of Bridgeport as a laborer. He served in the National Guard then enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1988-1990. He was an inactive member of the Philippi Fire Department and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a Methodist by faith.

Juanita M. Bedford
Juanita Mae Bedford, 47, a resident of the Montrose community, went home to be with the Lord Friday, July 29, 2005, at 7:52 a.m., in the Sentra Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Va., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Nags Head, N.C., while on vacation.
Born Dec. 30, 1957 in Elkins, she was the daughter of the late Mason and Ruth Lucy Currence Fortney.
On April 28, 1978, she was united in marriage to Jim Bedford, who survives at Montrose.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Glenn A. Bedford and wife, Danielle, and James A. Bedford and wife, Amanda, all of Montrose; a sister, Patricia Parsons and husband, Jerry, of Parsons; two brothers, Louie Ray Fortney of Kerens and Albert Fortney of Dumpfries, Va.; and seven grandchildren: Tyler, Dustin, Jordan, Kendra, Emily, Ethan and Glenn Jr. "Little G."
Also, surviving are her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Betty Bedford of Montrose; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Phillips and husband, Eldon, of St. George, and Diane Bodkin and husband, Rick, of Montrose; a brother-in-law, Buster Bedford and wife, Lucille, of Montrose; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were a sister, Lena Fortney; paternal grandparents, Novel and Lena Fortney; and maternal grandparents, Peter J. and Adie Currence.
Juanita was a wonderful homemaker and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was previously employed by Bata Shoe, Heck’s, and had last worked for Mineral Fabrications as a secretary. She faithfully attended the Hendricks Free Methodist Church in Hendricks, where she enjoyed attending Vacation Bible School with her grandchildren and she also attended various meetings for the Women’s International Ministry. Juanita loved to travel with her husband, taking long walks and riding her bike on the Highland Trails. She loved animals, especially her dog, Bo, and her birds. She was a very strong, loving person who will be missed greatly by her family and friends and will remain a part of their hearts forever.

Chris W. Bender
Chris William Bender, 34, of Rock Cave, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005.
He was born Nov. 15, 1971, at Cleveland, Ohio, a son of Terry Bender of Rock Cave and Betty Ponsford Bender of Cleveland, Ohio. He is also survived by his stepmother, Diane Bender of Rock Cave.
He was united in marriage on July 3, 1993, to Jennifer Boatwright Bender, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Ceara Bender; one son, C.J. Bender, both at home; three brothers, Tony Bender and wife, Drema, of Walkersville, Craig Bender and wife, Trudy, and Philip Bender and wife, Tammy, all of French Creek; one sister, Laura Chidester and husband, Sonny, of Rock Cave; and several nieces and nephews.
Chris was employed by Alcon in Buckhannon. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He loved trucks and cars.
Friends will be received at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel Thursday, Dec. 8, from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. Pastor David Jessie will officiate and interment will follow in Goshen Cemetery. At the request of the family, the casket will remain closed. Haily A. Bender
Haily Alyssa Bender, 3, a resident of Hart, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Logan Regional Medical Center. Death was attributed to smoke inhalation from a house fire.
She was born Sept. 20, 2001, the daughter of Jerry Lee Bender, who survives in Ellamore, and Stephanie Michelle McCann who preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2005.
In addition to her father, she is survived by one sister, Katelyn Marie Bender, and one brother, Hunter Allan Bender. Paternal grandparents Jerry and Rebeca Bender of Ellamore, and maternal grandparents Christiphore McCann of Boston and Charity Ross of Lincoln County also survive.
Preceding her in death was one sister, Mikayla Michelle Toppings, on Feb. 25, 2005.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home on Saturday after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Brianna J. Bennett
Brianna J. Bennett, infant daughter of Shaun Christopher and Army Spec. Valerie Anita Corley Bennett of Ft. Bragg, N.C., died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, shortly after her birth at the Womack Army Medical Center, Ft. Bragg, N.C.
Also surviving are one sister, Kaitlin Page Dadisman, at home; maternal grandparents, Robert Corley of Philippi and Mary Corder of Belington; paternal grandparents, Doug Bennett of Montrose and Carolyn Mullenex of Georgia; and several aunts and uncles.

Donna G. Bennett
Ms. Donna Gay Bennett, 54, a resident of Front Street in Belington, departed this life in the early hours on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at her residence. She had been in declining health for quite sometime.
She was born March 5, 1951, at Oak Hill, a daughter of the late Leonard Sherwood Bennett and the late Nancy Carol Burgess Summers.
Ms. Bennett is survived by three sisters, Violet Louise Click and husband, Taylor, of West Farmington, Ohio, Sandra Sue Summers and Debbie Stewart, both of New Jersey; three brothers, Dwayne Bennett of Belington, Jimmy and David Summers, both of Manville, N.J.; five aunts, Laura Spotloe of Philippi, Elouise Ison of Fairmont, Catherine Perry of Ashstabula, Ohio, Betty Glendening of Warren, Ohio and Loraine Rands of Belington; one uncle, Edgar Eugene Bennett of Belington; two nephews, Jon Patrick Messenger and Patrick Dewayne Bennett; and two nieces, Brenda Lee Fisher and Rhonda Lynn Faircloth. Additional nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Summers; one uncle, Earnest Bennett; and three aunts, Myrtle Deblous, Edith Bennett, and Beatrice Edwards.
She attended the schools of Barbour County, was formerly employed by Haller’s Restaurant in Belington and was last employed by the Belington Farm Service as assistant manager. She attended the Calvary Southern Baptist Church where she was the nursery director, a job which was very fitting because of her love for children. She was also an avid player of computer bingo.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, and Saturday until noon, at which time Ms. Bennett will be moved to Calvary Southern Baptist Church where friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the church with the Rev. Brian Corrick, the Rev. F.L. “Wink” McQuain and the Rev. David Melquist officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington. Edna Doletta “Dot” Bennett, 69, a resident of Route 3, Philippi, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, at her residence.
She was born June 25, 1936, in Taylor County, a daughter of the late Earl D. and Bertha Rose McVicker Robinson.
Surviving are one daughter, Joy and husband, Philip Reed, of Moatsville; two sons, Darrell and wife, Terri Bennett, of Berkeley Springs and Jeremy and wife, Brandy Bennett, of Philippi; six grandchildren, Chelsea and Cody Reed and Tyson, Jordan, Tory and Makensi Bennett; and two sisters, Hilda McCauley of Philippi and Loretta McCauley of Grafton.
She was a caregiver for the Barbour County Senior Center and a member of Philippi Southern Baptist Church.

Freddy W. Bennett, 58, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away at 8:58 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005, in the emergency department of Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 19, 1947, at Mabie, a son of the late Wilson Brown Bennett and Freda Christine Simmons Bennett Straley.
On July 18, 1973, at Moundsville, he was married to the former Jo Ellen Lambert, who survives.

Freddy was a Vietnam War veteran having served in the U.S.Army. He had worked construction prior to becoming disabled. He was a Baptist by faith.

Teressa L. “Pat” Bennett, 68, a resident of the Glenmore community, Elkins, departed this life at 4:19 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at her residence with her husband, children and friends at her side. Pat had been in failing health for the past eight months and death was attributed to cancer.
She was born Jan. 19, 1937, at East Dailey, a daughter of the late Ralph W. Kelly and Nellie Woodzell Kelly Moyer.
On Jan. 6, 1957, she was united in marriage at First United Methodist Church in Elkins to Bernard W. Bennett, who survives in the Glenmore community.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sherri Marstiller and husband, Cliff, of Elkins and Kimberly Webley and husband, Edgar, of Bear Creek, N.C.; one son, Scott Bennett and wife, Joanna, of Tornado; one sister, Thelma F. Butcher of Elkins; one brother, Warren E. “Ed” Kelly and wife, Eva, of Roanoke, Va.; one stepgrandson, Edgar H. Webley II of Okinawa; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved granddaughter, Haylee Marie Bennett, of the Norton community.
Pat attended the schools of Randolph County and graduated from Beverly High School with the class of 1954. She was a homemaker but held several part-time jobs, one being a U.S. Postal Service rural route carrier in the Beverly, East Dailey and surrounding areas for eight years. She was a Methodist by faith.

Truman Durbin Bennett, 73, of 10 Fourth St., Buckhannon, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born February 18, 1932, at Buckhannon, a son of the late Archie Baxter Bennett and Edna Dell Moats Bennett.
He was married to Ruth Virginia Beam Bennett, who preceded him in death July 9, 2000.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara A. Bennett Bennett of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Bradley Bennett, Anthony Lemons and Martin Lemons, all of Buckhannon; five sisters, Barbara Sue Coker and Mary Maxine Bennett, both of Buckhannon, Elaine White and Elnora Baughman, both of Syracuse, N.Y., and Samantha Louise Bennett of Buckhannon; and two brothers, Harold Junior Bennett of Warren, Ohio, and Charles Clinton Bennett of French Creek.
Also preceding him in death were one sister, Emogene Fern Bennett; and three brothers, Woodford George Bennett, Edward Steve Bennett and Issac Martin Bennett.
He was maintenance supervisor for Upshur County.

Shelby L. Bevins
Mrs. Shelby Lea Moore Bevins, 45, a resident of Kernersville, N.C., passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, following a sudden illness.
Mrs. Bevins was born Oct. 9, 1959, in Elkins, a daughter of Donald Carl Moore and Nancy Hillyard Moore.
She was preceded by death by her father.
She is survived by her husband, Homer Paul Bevins; daughter, Marissa Grace Bevins; son, Homer Jacob “Jack” Bevins at home; her mother and step-father, Nancy and Claud R. Bargeron of Junior; one brother, Jeffrey D. Moore and wife, Pam, of Junior; one sister, Molly L. Glendenning and husband, Stephen, of Junior; her mother-in-law, Fannie Meluzio of Rivesville; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by one nephew, Andrew David Glendenning.
She was a life member of Laurel Mountain Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 410, Belington.
At Shelby’s request her body was cremated. There was no formal viewing as she wished to be remembered as she was in life. A memorial service, to celebrate her life, will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church in her hometown of Junior at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1. James B. Bialek
James Brent “J.B.” Bialek, 24, a resident of 110 Evergreen Drive, Elkins, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Sept. 8, 2005.
He was born May 11, 1981, in Elkins, a son of Jim and Karen Arbogast Bialek, who reside in Elkins.
Also surviving are two sisters, Amy Bialek Parsons and husband, John, of Elkins and Ashley Bialek of Elkins; his beloved dog, Muffin; his maternal grandmother, Amy “Toots” Arbogast of Elkins; and his paternal grandmother, Stella Bialek of McKees Rocks, Pa.
Also preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather, Luther “Short” Arbogast; and his paternal grandfather, Chester Bialek.
J.B. was a 1999 graduate of Elkins High School, received an associate of science degree in forest technology from Glenville State College and a bachelor of science degree in forest resources management from West Virginia University in 2004. He was certified in private pesticide applications and held certification as a wildland firefighter by the American Red Cross. He was employed by Tanner Lumber Co. as a forester working in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. He held memberships in the Society of American Foresters and the West Virginia Forestry Association. J.B. enjoyed spending time with his friends, shooting pool, hunting, fishing, hiking, and being in the outdoors. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkins.

Thelma V. Bibey
Ms. Thelma Virginia Bibey, 90, a resident for the past nine years of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center in Belington, departed this life early Wednesday morning, July 13, 2005, in the Care Center. She had been in declining health for quite some time.
She was born Oct. 24, 1914, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Henry Wade and Nancy Icy Alendar Bibey.
She had never married and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She attended the schools of Barbour County, and was a 1934 graduate of Belington High School. In her former years, she was employed with Gaston’s Drugstore in Belington, Fulton’s Drugstore in Belington and then many years for Yeager’s Variety and Hardware, from which she retired. She was a member of the former Evangelical United Brethren Church at Stringtown which is now known as the Stringtown United Methodist Church, where she had served as treasurer for many years.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home, 210 Brandenburg St. in Belington from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and on Friday until noon, at which time she will be moved to the Stringtown United Methodist Church where friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted with the Rev. Evelyn Scott Biggert, 75, a resident of Manassas, Va., died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in Prince William Hospital, Manassas, Va.
She was born March 23, 1929, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Brown and Glodie Lewis Gibson.
She was twice married. First, to the late Austin Scott and then to the late Jessie Biggert.
Surviving are five children, Vivian Pearson of Buckhannon, Janice Henderson of Manassas, Va., Terri Scott of Mississippi, Austin Scott of Manassas, Va., and Gerald Scott of Cape Cod, Mass.; 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hilda Holloway, Patty Lemar and Barbara Oldaker; two brothers, James Gibson and Gary Gibson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Veta Owens; and six brothers, Gerald, Ovajerry, Bill, Vernon, Larry and Kenney Gibson.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith.
Viewing will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Margaret Elizabeth Biller, 84, a resident of Staunton, Va., passed away at 4:07 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at her home in Staunton.
She was born Oct. 2, 1920, at Hendricks, a daughter of the late Albert and Stella Johnson Champ.
She was married to Junior B. Biller, who survives in Staunton.
Also surviving are a daughter, Annette Yvonne Brothers Moore and husband, Ernest G. Moore, of Staunton, Va.; four grandchildren, Gary Moore and wife, Pat, of Charlotte, N.C., Clay Moore of Richmond, Va., Mark R. Moore and wife, Suzette, of Staunton, Va., and Margaret Moore Crouch and husband, Bobby, of Salem, Va.; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan, Carol, Matthew and Michael Moore of Charlotte, N.C., Brittany Nicole and John Christian Moore of Staunton, Va., and Kirsten Bailey and Ryan Austin Crouch of Salem, Va.; and someone she thought of as a grandson, Randy Ruff of Charlotte, N.C.
Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Sarah S. Douty, Josephine R. Campion and Mary L. Chamberlain; two brothers, William Richard Champ and Wilbur Champ; and a son, Donald Ray Champ Schleuniger.
Mrs. Biller lived in the Elkins area for 80 years prior to moving to Staunton four years ago. She managed a boarding house at Spruce for the Western Maryland Railroad and was a homemaker. She loved spending time with her husband, her family and her dog, Missy.

Paul H. Billups
Paul H. “Pete” Billups, born Dec. 20, 1934, in Morgantown, passed away at his home unexpectedly May 27, 2005.
Paul, who had lived in south Florida since 1972, was a psychotherapist and marriage and family counselor in Florida for many years. He helped countless individuals at programs throughout Dade and Broward counties, most recently at the Samaritan Counseling Center.
Paul was loved and respected for his wicked wit, inimitable style and innate ability to challenge the status quo. He was a special husband and father, a stimulating friend and colleague, and those who know him are devastated that his sweet generous hear beats no more.
Paul graduated from Elkins High School in 1952 and Davis & Elkins College in 1962, and received his master’s degree from West Virginia University in 1963.
He married Hazel Turner Kump in August 1955, and together they had five children, Laura Santmyer of Elkins, Deborah Wilson of Huntington, Paula Kadyk of Tampa, Fla., Turner and Alan Billups, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and one stepdaughter, Tara Pifer of Glendale, Ariz.
His wife of 20 years, Carroll; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his great-aunt, Josephine Johnston of St. Petersburg, Fla., also survive.
His parents, Paul Byron Billups and Mildred Cooper Billups; and his brother, James O. Billups, preceded him in death.

Rev. Leo Black
The Rev. Leo Black, 85, of Stonewood, died Thursday, Jan 20, 2005, at Clarksburg Continuous Care.
He was born Sept. 2, 1919, at Buckhannon, a son of the late James M. and Maggie Byron Black.
He was married to the late Ethleen Casto Black.
Surviving are two daughters, Sylvia Snyder and husband, James M., of Stonewood and Charlene Read and husband, Charles, of Woodland, Pa.; one son, Gary A. Black and wife, Adrianne, of West Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Roger N. Black; four brothers; and three sisters.
He was a retired United Methodist minister and a member of the Stonewood United Methodist Church in Stonewood.

Pearl Frances Black, 88, of Route 6, Buckhannon, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at the home of her son, Donald Jeffries.
She was born Nov. 3, 1916, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche Louise Westfall Ware.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lewie Franklin Jeffries, and her second husband, James R. Black.
She is survived by six daughters, Lucille Irene Jeffries Moore and husband, Rex, of Fairmont, Edith Mae Jeffries Godfrey and husband, Kenneth, of Pullman, Beaulah Jean Jeffries Tenney and husband, Doyle, of Frenchton, Naomi Katherine Jeffries Sides and husband, Jimmy, of Walls, Miss., Carol Ann Jeffries Beachler and husband, Frank, of Moore, Okla. and Helen Louise Alicie of Buckhannon; three sons, Lewie Junior Jeffries and wife, Charlotte, of Washington, Okla., Oziel Lee Jeffries and wife, Phyliss, of Cumberland, Ohio, and Donald Ray Jeffries of Buckhannon; 34 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren, eight stepgreat-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, one great-granddaughter, one great-grandson and one great-great-grandson; six brothers, Junior Ware, Harry Ware, Alonzo Ware, Paul Edward Ware, Everett Lee Ware and Cecil Grant Ware; and one sister, Marie Ware Hinchman.
She was a cook at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lorain, Ohio, and also for Saga Food Service at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Robert H. Black, 81, of 23 Sandy Ave. in Buckhannon, died at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, in Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born March 31, 1924, at Rock Hill, N.C., a son of the late George Henry Black and Mattie Mae Peay Black.
On Jan. 11, 1947, he was married to Eleanor Frances Kling Black, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert Francis Black and wife, Carolyn, of Woburn, Mass., and Frederick G. Black and wife, Pamela, of Waterville, Maine; one daughter, Suellen A. Lyons of Cape Cod, Mass.; four grandsons, Sean F. Lyons and wife, Tammy A., of Buckhannon, Frederick Black Jr. of Portland, Maine, Thomas F. Black and wife, Wendy, and Robert F. Black Jr., all of Woburn, Mass.; three granddaughters, Holly Black and Carla Regione, both of Woburn, Mass. and Jennifer Black of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Correane E. Starnes and Carrie E. Luke, both of Rock Hill, S.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers, Jasper B. Black, John Newt Black, Porter Black, David B. Black, Claude Black, Arthur Black, Eugene Black and Laurence B. Black; and three sisters, Elizabeth Montgomery, Polly Orr and Louise Poteat.
He was a truck driver for Transcon, attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was a member of Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion, Irish American in Malden, Mass. and Holy Name Society.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. At 7:30 p.m., a vigil for the deceased will be held. Scott E. Black
Scott Eugene Black, 47, of Graham Street, Elkins, died Dec. 18, 2005, at his residence.
He was born May 13, 1958, in Piqua, Ohio, the second son of the late Robert L. and Betty J. Black.
Surviving are one brother, Robert L. Black Jr. and wife, Cathy, of Mill Creek; two sisters, Rebecca L. Sampson of Elkins and Paula Black Johnston and husband, Karl Micheal, of Montrose; four nephews, Ronnie Sampson, Bryan Black, Jeb Black and Jacob Johnston; one niece, Lauren Johnston; three great-nephews, Jessie, Damien and Bradley Sampson; two great-nieces, Makayla and Abagail Black; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Della G. VanPelt; brother-in-law, Ronald “Pete” Sampson; and aunt and uncle, Ronald and Joanne VanPelt.
Scott graduated from Rayen High School in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1976. He then obtained an associate’s degree in nursing from Davis & Elkins College in 1980. He was disabled at the time of his death.

Mary M. Blackwell
Mary Mildred Blackwell, 82, a resident of 217 S. Walnut St., Philippi, passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 16, 1923, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Milam B. and Fannie Lee Gall Snyder.
She was united in marriage July 30, 1976, to Richard L. Blackwell, who preceded her in death Feb. 26, 2005.
Surviving are three daughters, Anna Lee and husband, Richard St. Laurent, of New Port Rickey, Fla., Mary Lou and husband, Ralph Funk, of Akron, Ohio, and Deborah Long of Elkins; two sons, Raymond Earl “Early” Jones of Mogadore, Ohio, and Mark and wife, Virginia Jones, of Bennett, Colo.; one sister, Estelle Lou Levinski of Belton, Texas; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Blackwell worked at Philippi Hardware and Furniture Co. for 27 years. She was a member of the Farm Women’s Club, Tyhannh Sportsman Club, Silent Grove Homemakers and was a United Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Richard L. Blackwell
Richard L. Blackwell, 84, a resident of 217 S. Walnut St., Philippi, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 7, 1920, in Bridgeport, a son of the late William D. and Hariett K. Francis Blackwell.
He was united in marriage July 30, 1976, to Mary Mildred Snyder, who survives in Philippi.
Surviving are three stepdaughters, Anna Lee St. Laurent and husband, Richard, of New Port Rickey, Fla., Mary Lou Funk and husband, Ralph, of Akron, Ohio, and Deborah Long of Elkins; two stepsons, Raymond Earl “Early” Jones of Mogadore, Ohio, and Mark Jones and wife, Virginia, of Bennett, Colo.; seven stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Mr. Blackwell was preceded in death by two brothers, William S. Blackwell and Robert P. Blackwell.
He was retired with 30 years service as a salesman for Tolley Electric. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 1st Lt. Corps of Engineer in the Korean Conflict, also in the European Theater and South Pacific. He was a member of the Philippi Lions Club and Laurel Mountain Post 410 Belington Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Baptist by faith.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the service hour, Friday with Speaker Robert “Buck” True officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Eli D. Blagg
Eli D. Blagg, 76, of Route 2, French Creek, Waterloo community, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at his home.
He was born Aug. 6, 1928, in Webster County, a son of the late Henry H. and Ollie Cowger Blagg.
On Nov. 25, 1980, he was married to Avis Hoover Blagg, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Henry W. Blagg and Charles D. Blagg, both at home; and two brothers, Cardon Blagg of French Creek and George Blagg of Ohio.
Proceeding him in death were one brother and two sisters.
He was the owner of a sawmill, a timberman, a truck driver and worked the floor at auctions. Mr. Blagg had served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Conrad Tenney will officiate and interment will follow in Waterloo Cemetery. Military services will be conduced at the graveside by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, American Legion Post 7 and Disabled American Veterans Chapters 5 and 36. Eli D. Blagg Sr., 76, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at his home at French Creek.
He was born Aug. 6, 1928, a son of late Henry H. and Ollie Cowger Blagg.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Avis Hoover Blagg; his children, Cornelia Grey and husband, Ellis, of North Carolina, Eli Don Blagg Jr. and wife, Lena, of Maryland, Emily Sue and husband, Scott, of Ohio, and Henry W. and Charles D., at home. He had seven grandchildren, Alicia Grey, Tumeskia Dawn, Christina Samantha, Eli Don III, Amie Joy, Christine and Trevor. He also had four great-grandchildren and two brothers, Cardon Blagg of French Creek and George Blagg of Ohio.

Mary E. Blair
Mary E. Blair, 95, of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Deans Personal Care Home in Buckhannon.
She was born April 4, 1910, a daughter of the late William Pifer and Prudie Simons Pifer.
She was united in marriage Dec. 9, 1935, to William Blair, who preceded her in death Oct. 26, 1976.
She is survived by two daughters, Shelia Vanscoy and husband, Bill, of Manning, S.C., and Analee Price and husband, Milton, of Laguna Niguel, Calif. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Ann Salerno of Coto DeCaza, Calif., Dr. James Blair Price of Newport Coast, Calif., Dr. Lori Vanscoy Patel of Baltimore, Md., and Lisa Faulkenberry of Columbia, S.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Emma and Henry Faulkenberry of Columbia, S.C., and Kayla Patel of Baltimore, Md.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, French, Jess and Paul Pifer.
Mrs. Blair was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and a former member of the Smithburg United Methodist Church in Doddridge County. She was a former member of the Doddridge County Emergency Squad.

Gilbert Joseph “Gil” Blake, 38, a resident of 222 Walnut St., Philippi, departed this life Thursday, March 10, 2005, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg. He had been in declining health, but death was unexpected.
He was born Sept. 23, 1966, at Ohio, a son of the late Gilbert Vernon Blake and Lana Jo Furjione Shockey, who survives at Philippi. He was formerly married to the former Lisa Johanns, who survives.
He is also survived by one son, Daniel Joseph Blake of Philippi; one sister, Tanya Slaton and husband Ron of Fredericksburg, Va.; one half brother, Eric Blake of Arcadia, Fla.; a stepfather, Larry Shockey of Philippi; his paternal grandmother, Lillian Blake of Grafton; nephews Mike and Joey Slaton and Brandon Blake; one niece, Jablina Blake; aunt and uncle Dorothy and Harold McCray; and a cousin, Larry Harris.
Mr. Blake attended the schools of Barbour County and was a graduate of the Philip Barbour High School class of 1984. Before becoming disabled, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator and also worked in the field of hazardous material clean-up. He was a Protestant by faith.

Mr. Gil Joseph Blake, 38, a resident of 222 Walnut St. in Philippi, departed this life Thursday, March 10, 2005, in United Hospital Center at Clarksburg. He had been in declining health but death was unexpected.
He was born Sept. 23, 1966, at Elyria, Ohio, a son of the late Gilbert Vernon Blake and Lana Jo Furgione Shockey, who survives at Philippi.
He was formerly married to the former Lisa Johanns, who survives.
He is also survived by one son, Daniel Joseph Blake of Philippi; one sister, Tanya Slaton and husband, Ron, of Fredericksburg, Va.; one half brother, Eric Blake of Arcadia, Fla.; one half sister, Sherry Kay Daugherty Capilla Furgione; one stepbrother, Lee Shockey, and a stepfather, Larry Shockey, both of Philippi, his paternal grandmother, Lillian Blake of Grafton; nephews, Mike and Joey Slaton and Brandon Blake; one niece, Jablina Blake; aunts and uncles, Dorothy and Harold McCray, Alice and Warren Bastien, Anthony and Ester Furgione, Helen and Angelo Capri, Mary Lou Wiggington and Robert Furgione; and cousins, Larry Harris, Joann, Tommy and Robert Campbell and Cathy Mincher.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Madeline Campbell Furgione Anderson and Joseph Charles Furgione; paternal grandfather, Vernon Blake; one half sister, Teresa Illene Daugherty; and one uncle, Joey Furgione.
Mr. Blake attended the schools of Barbour County and was a graduate of Philip Barbour High School in the class of 1984 and attended Fairmont State College for two years. Before becoming disabled, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator and also worked in the field of hazardous material clean up. He was involved for quite sometime in the efforts to rescue and recover victims and the clean up efforts of the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center in New York City. He was very proud of his son, Daniel, and very proud of his grandfather’s sacrifice and service during World War II. He was a Protestant by faith.
Friends were received Sunday at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington and today from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at which time he was moved to Philippi United Methodist Church where friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted with the Rev. Lillian Blankenship
Lillian Karlene “Kay” Blankenship, 82, of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Colonial Place in Elkins.
She was born April 26, 1923, at Coalden Tazwell County, a daughter of the late John L. and Olive Hurt McCoy.
She was married to Donald Ellis Blankenship, who preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1991.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna B. Carpenter and husband, Jack, of Buckhannon and Evelyn I. Ross and husband, Mark, of Weston; two grandchildren, Donald Mark Ross of Weston and Kaylyn Lee Carpenter of Buckhannon; one brother, Vernon D. McCoy of Pahokee, Fla; and one great-grandson, Hayden Kohl Norman Ross.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Franklin “Hank” McCoy and John Lowman “Butch” McCoy; and one sister, Evelyn Louise Kent.
She was a charter member of Buckhannon Alliance Church. She was the owner of Direct Fabrics and Village Store from 1970 until 1989.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Genevieve Downs Blankley, 101, a resident of Miami and formerly of Mill Creek, died Sunday, May 22, 2005.

Viola M. Blevins
Viola Mamie Gay Ramsey Blevins, 88, a former resident of Louisville, Ky., and Valley Head, and for the past four years a resident of Nella’s Incorporated at Crystal Springs, departed this life Monday evening, Jan. 31, 2005, at the nursing home. Death was attributed to Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born Friday, Oct. 6, 1916, at Valley Head, a daughter of the late John Andrew Gay and Mary Jane Riggleman Gay.
She was twice married. First, to Fred Andrew Ramsey who preceded her in death during 1952. Second, to Ambrose Blevins, who preceded her in death during 1987.
Surviving are one daughter, Sandra S. Ramsey Riggleman and husband, Edsel G., of Valley Head; three stepsons, Ambrose Blevins Jr. of Alabama, Earl Q. Blevins of Louisville, Ky., and Henry Douglas Blevins of Brookeland, Texas; one sister, Jessie Durst of Akron, Ohio; one granddaughter, Kimberly S. Horn and husband, C. Scott, of Louisville, Ky.; several stepgrandchildren; two great-grandsons, Connor M. Horn and Cagney S. Horn; several stepgreat-grandchildren, several stepgreat-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were one infant daughter, Pauline Grace Ramsey; one stepson, Louis F. Blevins; three brothers, Everett, Sherman and Ray Gay; and two sisters, Ruth Lindsay and Monna Hamrick.
Viola attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker and professional seamstress, was an active member of the Clifton Baptist Church of Louisville, Ky., for several years and contributed many hours of volunteer work to the Louisville Senior Citizens Center.

Delora D. Bodkin
Delora D. Bodkin, 75, of 18514 Old Colony Lane, Hagerstown, Md., passed away, Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md.
Born Sunday, Sept. 28, 1930, in Barbour County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Delauder and the late Hazel Johnson Delauder.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O.J. Bodkin, in 1992.
She was a member of Greenbrier Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Durst and husband, Wendell, of Hagerstown, Md.; two sons, Rick Bodkin and wife, Dianne, of Montrose and Douglas Bodkin and wife, Audrey, of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Thelma Snyder of Florida and Evelyn May of Florida; two brothers, Paul Delauder of Hagerstown, Md., and Dick Delauder of Alexandria, Va.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Tom Delauder and Hubert Delauder.
Services will be Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. from the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., North Hagerstown, Md., with the Rev. David L. Coblentz officiating. Juanita Bodkins
Mrs. Juanita Bodkins, 80, a resident of 1506 Taylor Ave., Elkins, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at her home.
She was born Sept. 19, 1924, at Glady, a daughter of the late Jacob and Bessie Fleming Bowers.
On. Nov. 24, 1945, she was married to Leslie H. Bodkins, who survives in Elkins. In 2005, Mr. and Mrs. Bodkins would have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, Tommie L. Bodkins of Elkins; one daughter, Janice Bodkins of Elkins; and two grandsons, Jeremy and Aaron Bodkins.
Preceding her in death were six brothers, Ralph, Harry, Bruce, Roy, Claude and Louis Bowers; and eight sisters, Mary Taylor, Pearl Arbogast, Bernice Triplett, Margaret Craigs, Louise Miner, Edna Triplett, Claudine Arbogast and Wondlyn Weicht.
Mrs. Bodkins attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Friends may call today from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donald L. Mary C. Bogdonovich
Mary C. Bogdonovich, 100, of Elkins, departed this life Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at Talbott Personal Care Home in Belington, where she had been a resident since Sept. 1.
She was born July 23, 1905, at Davis, a daughter of the late John and Anna Bulic Bogdonovich.
She was preceded in death by one brother, John Bogdonovich; and two sisters, Anna Bogdonovich and Martha E. Altieri.
Surviving is one nephew, John Altieri of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
Miss Bogdonovich was a graduate of Davis High School and Fairmont State Teacher’s College. She was an elementary teacher in Monongalia County Schools until her retirement. She was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church.
At the request of the deceased, there will only be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Thomas with the Rev. Timothy Grassi officiating. Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis is in charge of the arrangements.  From 21 Oct 2005.

Richard “Dick” Garland Bohan, 70, a resident of 119 Summers St., Elkins, departed this life Wednesday evening, July 20, 2005, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. He had been in declining health for the past week.
He was born Tuesday, March 12, 1935, at Elkins, a son of the late Blaine Garland Bohan and Bernice Lillyan Lantz Bohan. He was twice married, first to Mary Jo Riggleman Bohan who preceded him in death in 1984, and then to Susie E. Lambert Bohan, who survives at Elkins.
Also surviving are three sons, Steve Lloyd and wife, Susan, of Woodbridge, Va., Rick Bohan of Culpepper, Va., and Rusty Bohan and wife, Ravenna, of Stafford, Va.; two stepsons, Rick Stell and wife, Aggie, of Waynesboro, Pa.; and David Stell and wife, Robin, of Elkins; one daughter, Candy Jett and husband, Matthew, of Spotsylvania, Va.; two stepdaughters, Tracy Simmons and husband, Charles, of Beverly, and Becky Smith and husband, Tom, of Elkins; one brother, Eddie Bohan of Junior; one sister, Sue Riggleman, of Wye Mills, Md., and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his first wife and parents is one daughter, Emma Katherine Bohan, in 1961.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1954, and was a veteran having served the United States National Guard. He worked as a control room operator for Dominion/Virginia Power retiring in 1995. He was a lifelong volunteer in the community and was a charter member of the Rockhill Volunteer Fire Department of Stafford, Va.

Lola B. Bonar
Lola Baxa Bonar passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Pinelake Health and Rehab in Carthage, N.C., after an extended illness.
She was a resident of Seven Lakes, N.C., and prior to living in North Carolina, she had been a resident of Charleston and Buckhannon.
Born Jan. 14, 1913, in Selbyville, she was the daughter of the late Albert F. and Ida Sayre Baxa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Bonar; two brothers, Willard O. Baxa and Ernest G. Baxa; and a sister, Lena Baxa Reed.
She was a graduate of Buckhannon High School, West Virginia Wesleyan College and Marshall University. She was a teacher for 31 years and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of University Women, Kanawha County Association of Retired School Employees, Eastern Star and The Emeritus Club of West Virginia Wesleyan College. She was a hospital volunteer at Women and Children’s Hospital in Charleston. Lola had been a member of Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston since 1951, where she also had done volunteer work. After moving from Charleston to Seven Lakes, N.C., she attended Pinehurst United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Bonar Spencer Shumate and husband, Jim, of Greensboro, N.C., and Nancy B. Bowling and husband, L.G., of Seven Lakes, N.C. She is also survived by her grandson, Jeffrey D. Spencer and wife, Deborah; and two great-granddaughters, Molly and Mia Spencer, all of Chapel Hill, N.C. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Martha Baxa of Cape Coral, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gerald C. Bonner
Gerald Carter Bonner, 68, of Hendricks, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, while a patient at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Death was unexpected.
He as born April 11, 1936, at Dryfork, a son of the late Laken Ira and Lena Carr Bonner.
On June 13, 1964, he was united in marriage to Phebe Ellen Cole Bonner, who survives.
Mr. and Mrs. Bonner had no children from their marriage but consider Jessica Long as a “special granddaughter.”
He is also survived by three brothers, Don G. Bonner and Paul Bonner, both of Parsons, and Coy Bonner of Hendricks; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as two loving friends he considered as members of his household, Tammy Carr and Christine Long.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Forrest, Stanley and Roscoe Bonner; and one sister, Naomi Tennett Sinclair.
He attended schools in Tucker County. After 28 years, he retired in 1998 from the West Virginia Department of Highways where he was a heavy equipment operator and had also worked for Penn Line and Kingsford Co. He was Pentecostal by faith.
Friends will be received today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Patricia Ann Bonner, 60, of Dryfork, passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, in Elkins.
She was born March 10, 1944, in Dryfork, a daughter of the late William Stuart Bonner and Nellie Faye Wymer Kisamore of Davis.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her former husband, Robert Lee Mallow; two sons, Tim Turner and wife, Phyllis, of Parsons and Robert Lee Mallow Jr. and wife, Tisha, of Harman; four daughters, Roberta Faye Hoggard and husband, Andy, of Follansbee, Roxanna Marie Mallow and Dottie Sue and Ocie Bonner, both of Dryfork and Jamie Lea Miller and husband, Kevin, of Elkins; two brothers, David Bonner of Onego and Shawn Bonner of Davis; two sisters, Sandra Carr and Kathy Rhodes, both of Davis; one sister-in-law, Sharon Bonner of Dryfork; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Phil Bonner; one sister, Linda Zamora; and two grandchildren, Dakota and Triston.
She was affiliated with the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church.

On July 17, 1955, at Oakland, Md., he was married to Betty Lee Snyder, who survives. They celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one daughter, Cathy Ann Lee and husband, Todd, of Hambleton; two brothers, Coy Bonner and wife, Pat, of Dryfork and Don Bonner and wife, Louise, of Parsons; and two granddaughters, Sheree Nicole Bowley and Tayler O’Bryen Lee, both of Hambleton.
He was preceded in death by one infant son, Danny Cleon Bonner; five brothers, Forrest, Gerald, Stanley, Roscoe and Charles Bonner; and one sister, Naomi Bonner Sinclair.
He attended the school at Mill Run and Parsons High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, served during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Bronze Star. He enjoyed antiques and bottle collecting. He will always be remembered for his gentleness and quiet mannerism.

Edna Booth
Edna Madaline Bennett Booth, 90, a resident of 301 Custer St. in Belington, departed this life at 2:53 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005, in the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. She had been in her usual health until the last two weeks when her health began to decline rapidly.
She was born Aug. 20, 1914, at the Stringtown Community near Belington, a daughter of the late Sherman M. and Estelle Moore Bennett. She was united in marriage on Dec. 22, 1934, to Charles Kenneth Booth, who preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1980.
Mrs. Booth is survived by four daughters, Shirley Darnell of Belington with whom she made her home, Catherine Knight and husband, Jimmie, of Belington, Faye Tallman of Belington and Jeanie Coontz and husband, Jimmy, of Belington; three sons, Kenneth “Woody” Booth and wife, Joyce, of Buckhannon, Harold Booth and wife, Charlotte, of Belington and Gary Booth and wife, Connie, of Belington. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and step-grandchildren also survive. She is also survived by one sister, Jean Stalnaker, of Belington.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one infant brother, one sister, Luvenia Bibey, and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Booth attended the schools of Barbour County, was a homemaker and a retired cook from the Belington Elementary School in Barbour County after 14 years of employment. She was a life-long resident of Belington and was a member of the Faith Way Baptist Church.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 210 Brandenburg St. in Belington today, July 9, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon, when Mrs. Booth will be moved to the Faith Way Baptist Church where friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted with The Rev. Downing Gregory officiating. Interment will follow in the Stringtown Cemetery near Belington. Junior F. Booth
Junior “Bud” Francis Booth, 67, a resident of Philippi, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at his residence.
He was born July 8, 1937, in Belington, a son of the late Francis “Bobbin” Edward and Netti Fitzwater Booth, who survives in Belington.
He was united in marriage Sept. 14, 1957 to Charlotte L. Casto, who preceded him in death May 3, 2002.
Surviving are one daughter, Kimberly Fetter and husband, Shawn, of Belington and one grandson, Kelby Fetter of Belington.
Mr. Booth was a quality control technician at Kingsford Charcoal Plant in Parsons and was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, Sunday with the Rev. Phyllis M. Booth 
Mrs. Phyllis Mae Bennett Booth, 77, a resident of 409 Brown Ave. in Belington, departed this life at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, may 24, 2005, at her home.  she had been in declining health for the past six years. 
She was born Jan. 10, 1928, at Star City, a daughter of the late Stanley and Bertha Crawford Bennett. 
On Dec. 31, 1943,, at Morgantown, she was united in marriage to to Leroy Booth, who survives at their home in Belington.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Eileen Rose Booth of Fairmont; two sons, Bradford Earl Booth of Pleasant Garden, N.C., and Brennis Lee Booth of Canton, Ohio; three brothers, Robert Lloyd and Edward Bennett; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 
Preceding her in death was one sister, LaVerne Thomas. M
Mrs. Booth attended the schools of Bob Town, Pa., and was primarily a homemaker most of her adult life.  She collected and repaired antique dolls and antique furniture.  She was very gifted with artistic ability and was known for her crafting of rugs, quilting, painting and caning chairs.  While living in the Warren, Ohio, area, she was involved with the local garden club and ceramic club and attended the Church of God.  She was also a member of the Laurel Mountain Post 410 Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary in Belington.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 7p.m. to 9 pm. today and Thursday until 1 pm., the funeral hour, when the services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Sister Theresa Reddington officiating.  Interment will follow in the Knights of Pythias Cemetery near Junior. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Mountain Hospice, Crim Avenue, Belington, W. Ralph R. Booth
Ralph Ray Booth, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, Dec. 7, 2005, after a short illness at his home.
Mr. Booth was born May 22, 1928, the son of the late Myrtle and Harry Booth at Silica.
He was preceded in death by Edith Mae Reid Booth, his wife of 44 years. Also proceeding him in death was a brother, Lloyd Booth.
Mr. Booth is survived by his wife, Nancy Smith Booth; two daughters, Janet Ott and Joyce Nestor; two sons, Harry Booth and David Booth; two sisters, Alberta Whittle and Lucille Greer; and four brothers, Harley Booth, Harry Vernon Booth, Albert Booth and Lawrence Booth. He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, Ralph Booth received his bachelor of science degree from Davis & Elkins College in 1949. He earned his master’s degree in science at West Virginia University in 1951 and completed additional work at Purdue University, the University of Delaware and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the D&E faculty for 31 years from 1953 to 1956 and 1967 to 1995. While at D&E, he served as associate professor of chemistry, chemistry department head, registrar and assistant dean for academic administration. Mr. Booth also served on the faculty of Grove City College and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He worked as a chemist at Hercules Powder Co. in Wilmington, Del., and as associate editor of Chemical Abstracts Service in Columbus, Ohio. At his retirement at D&E in 1995, he was named professor of chemistry emeritus. After retirement, Mr. Booth continued to serve at various times as adjunct faculty at D&E, West Virginia Wesleyan, the University of Delaware and Alderson-Broaddus College.
Ralph Booth was active in several professional organizations. He was a member of the American Chemical Society for more than 50 years. He served as sectional treasurer and council member for the Northern Section of West Virginia. Mr. Booth was also active in the West Virginia Academy of Sciences for many years.
An elder at Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, Ralph Booth served the church in many capacities over the years, chairing the Stewardship Committee, serving as clerk of session, serving as trustee, teaching the Lacy Sunday school class, guest speaking at Valley Bend and Coalton Presbyterian churches and representing the church as a commissioner to meetings of the West Virginia Presbytery. He also made significant contributions to the Presbytery, serving on the personnel and administration committee, chairing the planning committee, serving as vice moderator for Quadrant II in 2002-2003 and, most recently, serving on the Presbytery’s congregational development committee.
Ralph Booth enjoyed traveling and since his retirement was an avid hunter. Jeanetta F. Bosley
Jeanetta F. Bosley, 81, a resident of Route 2, French Creek, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
She was born Nov. 5, 1923, at Indian Camp, a daughter of the late Charles Miller and Retta McCann Miller.
On May 3, 1941, she was married to Harold Junior Bosley, who preceded her in death Feb. 28, 2003.
Surviving are five sons, David and Glenda Bosley of Tallmansville, Gail and Dottie Bosley of Rock Cave, Joseph and Diana Bosley of Raphine, Va., Donald and Holly Bosley of Hillsdale, N.J., and Kenneth and Marsha Bosley of Kentucky; three daughters, Bonnie and Robert Baughman of Carter, Jeanie and Mike Perry of Ten Mile and Judy and Ralph Kennedy of Warner Robins, Ga.; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were one sister, Patsy Tripp; one grandson, Jeffrey Bosley; and one son-in-law, Walter Guy Boggs Jr.
She had worked at Wards Cleaners, was a member of Alton United Methodist Church, was president of CEOS of Alton, a member of the Alton Community Group and a member of French Creek Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. On Monday, she will be moved to Alton United Methodist Church where she will lie in state from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Sue Lowther officiating. Rev. George Boyer
Rev. George Gordon Boyer, 81, a recent resident of Colonial Place, Elkins, and a long-time resident of Brownton, died late Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.
He was born March 27, 1923, at Berryburg community, a son of the late George D. and Ethel S. Wilfong Boyer.
On Dec. 6, 1947, he married the former Betty Jean Roy, who survives at Elkins.
Also surviving are two sons, George E. “Everett” Boyer of Flemington and Thomas David Boyer and wife, Clara, of Sheffield, Ohio; two daughters, Barbara Ann Hall and husband, David, of Salem and Debra Sue Lipscomb and husband, Roy, of Flemington; two sisters, Louise Smith of Keyser and Mary Fridley of Thomas; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William H. Boyer and Victor R. Boyer; and three sisters, Leodis Boyer, Lottie Boyer and Norma Pearl Smith.
Rev. Boyer retired following 28 years in area coal mines, principally the Clinchfield Coal Company’s Compass Mine. He served 18 years as pastor of the Brownton Pentecostal Church of God, where he also served as sunday school teacher. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, District 31.

Mary Jo Brady, 82, of Smithfield Street, Buckhannon, died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at her home.
She was born June 20, 1923, at Smithfield, a daughter of the late Homer and Effie Henderson Edgell.
She was married to Maurice Brady, who preceded her in death in 1975.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Julie Brady of Buckhannon; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane Ann and William Buckman of Buckhannon; one daughter-in-law, Jane Brady of Weston; eight grandchildren, Lisa Hosfeld, Christopher Brady, Ian Buckman, Kelley Buckman and Daniel Brady, all of Buckhannon, Elizabeth Brady of Weston, Tim Buckman of Morgantown and Elaine Brady of Port Orange, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Max Hosfeld of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, John Maxwell Brady; two brothers, Max and John Edgell; and two sisters, Edith Wells and Florence Schackart.
A 1943 graduate of Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing in Wheeling, Mary Jo was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps serving battlefield wounded in England. She served as a registered nurse in several hospitals, including St. Joseph’s in Buckhannon and as a public health nurse in Brevard County, Fla. In 1971, she entered Frontier Nurse Midwifery School and became a certified nurse midwife. She traveled as a Christian missionary to several countries including China, Nepal, Liberia, Ecuador and Jamaica. She also served as a member of the Senior Center board. She was appointed by the governor to be on the State Council on Aging. She was also a faithful volunteer in Camp Tommy and Upshur County schools. She was a member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Gary Stackpole officiating. Interment will follow in Point Pleasant Cemetery at Abbott. Fred G. Bragg
Fred G. Bragg, 89, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, July 21, 2005.
Fred was born May 18, 1916, at Boggs, a son of the late Lewis W. and Linda S. Woods Bragg.
He was united in marriage Sept. 30, 1939 to Mabel G. Rose Bragg, who preceded him in death April 11, 2000.
He is survived by four sons, Okey and wife, Marlene Bragg, of Weston, Owen and wife, Julie Bragg, of French Creek, Dana and wife, Helen Bragg, of Ripley and Orland Bragg of Marietta, Ohio; and two daughters, Evelyn and husband, John Tryon, of Kent, Ohio, and Edryth and husband, George Harris, of Hurricane. Eleven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren survive. He is also survived by three brothers, Albert Bragg and Clint Bragg, both of Boggs, and Carl Bragg of Arkansas. Two sisters, Ethel Pugh of Florida and Opal Maul of Michigan also survive. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife of 60 years, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Fanny Reed and Della Outland; and one great-grandson.
Fred graduated from Cowen High School. He repaired farm equipment for many years and retired from West Virginia Department of Transportation Equipment Division in Buckhannon. Fred was an honorary member of Gould Christian Church and New Beginnings Fellowship Church located in Brimfield, Ohio. He was ordained and licensed to preach and teach God’s word by Gould Christian Church. Fred loved going to church and sharing God’s word from the Scriptures and in song with others. He will be remembered for his knowledge of the Bible and his vibrant testimony for Christ. Fred was loved and respected by many friends in West Virginia and Ohio.
Relatives and friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel Sunday, July 24, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mr. Bragg will be moved to the Gould Christian Church Monday, where he will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m, the funeral hour, with the Rev. Robert L. Brock
Robert Leary Brock, 65, of 905 Portage Road, No. 52, Wooster, Ohio, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at his residence following a period of declining health.
He was born May 27, 1939, in Mill Creek, the son of Arnold W. and Bernice Armstrong Brock.
In 1999, he was united in marriage to Zella “Skeeter” Clevenger, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one stepson, Kennard E. Hughes of Orrville, Ohio; two grandchildren; two sisters, Luretta Leeson of Wooster, Ohio, and Janet Bennett and husband, Darrell, of Beverly; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Neil A. Armstrong.
He graduated from Tygarts Valley High School in Mill Creek and served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963. He was formerly employed at a charcoal company in Parsons. He had been a resident of the Wayne County area since 1991 and enjoyed drawing and fishing.

Forest E. Brown
Forest E. “Gene” Brown, 80, a resident of Brushy Fork Road in Upshur County, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, of complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born Sept. 24, 1924, at Horner.
He was a veteran of World War II in combat with the 82nd Airborne Division in the European Campaign and served for 10 years with the the West Virginia National Guard. He was a car salesman for Sam Foster Chevrolet in Elkins and Curry Chevrolet in Buckhannon. He owned his own business called the Motor House at Tennerton prior to his retirement in 1997. He was a member of and an honorary trustee for the Good Hope Tabernacle Church located on Route 20 near Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Clifton and Isa Queen Brown and a brother, Clifton Junior Brown.
He was married to Geneva Taylor Brown for 59 years prior to his death.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Ricklin Brown and wife, Sarah Sullivan, of Charleston; grandson, Marshall Brown and wife, Jennifer, of Pickerington, Ohio; two granddaughters, Jennifer Smith and husband, Michael, of Westfield, N.J., and Christiana Brown of Morgantown; brothers, Edwin Ray Brown of Winchester, Va., and Robert Brown of Ravenswood; and sister, Billie Joe Clark of Weston.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Leva Elizabeth Gum Brown, of Orgas, formerly of Buckhannon and Mill Creek, passed away Nov. 11, 2005, at her home after a long illness.
She was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Webster County, a daughter of the late Grover and Dona Hammons Gum.
She was a member of Keith Full Gospel Church in Keith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; a son, Cecil; a brother, Charlie Gum; and a sister, Luella Watson.
She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Robinson and husband, Otis, of Brook Park, Ohio, and Sharlon Ferrell and husband, Jack, of Keith; a son, William Brown and wife, Jan, of Etna, N.Y.; four sisters, Helen Wagman of Linville, Va., Waneda Newlon of Texas; Irene Ferrell of Mill Creek and Ice Bradley of Gastonia, N.C.; four brothers, Henry Gum of Mill Creek, Don Gum of Belington, Howard Gum of Huttonsville and Harvey Gum of Dailey; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m at Armstrong Funeral Home in Whitesville, where a funeral service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. with Pastor June Ferrell officiating. Shirley Mae Brown, 52, a resident of HC 78, Box 92, Rock Cave, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
She was born June 30, 1952, in Abington, Va., a daughter of the late Leonard Garrett and Eula Garrett.
She was married to Rick Brown, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Jason Brown, Josh Brown and Michael Kennedy, all of Rock Cave, and Justin Brown of French Creek; two brothers, Bobby Garrett and Jack Garrett, both of Abington, Va.; three sisters, Phyllis Pippen of Hopewell, Va., Jean Neal and Betty Jo Camper, both of Abington, Va.; and five grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, William Garrett, and one sister, Peggy Helton.
She was a store clerk and attended Canaan Church.

Thomas L. Brown, 63, a resident of South Davis Avenue, Elkins, departed this life late Tuesday evening, May 10, 2005, at the Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health.

Thomas L. Brown
Thomas Lee Brown, 63, a resident of South Davis Avenue, Elkins, departed this life late Tuesday evening, May 10, 2005, at Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.
He was born Thursday, April 2, 1942, at Flemington, a son of the late George Brown and Josephine C. Isabella Brown, who survives at Elkins.
On Nov. 16, 1963 at Warm Springs, Va., he was married to the former Barbara S. Calain, who survives. They had celebrated 41 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one daughter, Wednesday Gail Wheeler and husband, Brian, of Elkins; one son, Shannon Patrick Brown and wife, Diane, of Elkins; two granddaughters, Trinity Cadence and Skylee Faith Brown; one brother, William Brown and wife, Brenda, of Elkins; one sister, Georgia Williams and husband, Robert, of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brown served as president of the family operated Pepsi-Cola bottling business established by his father, George Brown, and along with his brother Bill, opened the General Distributing Co. He later became co-owner and vice president of the Hess Oil Co.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard from which he retired as a first sergeant after 20 years of service. He was a graduate of Elkins High School and the University of Hard Knocks. He was co-outstanding Business Man of the Year Elkins BAB Award in 1989, a member of the Elkins Lions Club, an Exhausted Rooster of the Elkins Jaycees, a member of the Elkins Lodge 108 AF & AM, the Scottish Rite of Clarksburg and the York Rite, Red Fez, the Osiris Shrine of Wheeling, Iron Horse Patrol, Tygarts Valley Shrine Club and many other organizations, particularly those that helped children, a cause close to his heart. Mr. Brown was well known in the area for his support of youth from his Pepsi days to the present. Mr. Brown was a Lutheran by faith and a member of the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Elkins. In his spare time, Mr. Brown particularly enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with Trinity and Skylee.

Anthony “Tony” Curtis Bryant, 36, of Newberry, S.C, died May 29, 2005 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Tappahannock, Va., he was a son of Billy Coleman and Glenna Ann Swecker Bryant.
He was employed by Quest Telecommunications and was of the Protestant faith.

Shelby J. Bulatko
Shelby Jane Bulatko, 59, of Route 2, Belington, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown following an extended battle with heart disease.
She was born April 12, 1946, at Galloway, a daughter of the late Clarence W. and Wilma Pauline Weaver Bonnett.
On July 6, 1965, she was married to Thomas Lewis Bulatko, who survives at Route 2, Belington.
Also surviving are two sons, Stephen Thomas Bulatko, at home, and Brian Thomas Bulatko of Fairmont; one daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Teresa Ruth and Jaime Lynn Marsh of Belington; three grandchildren, Zachary Thomas Bulatko of Fairmont, April Jane Marsh and Shelby Lynn Marsh, both of Belington; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Algara) Puffinburger of Luray, Va., and Mrs. Robert (Brenda) Preston of Clarksburg; one brother, Russell Weaver and wife, Ann, of Buckhannon; two brothers-in-law, Russell Lee Jones of Highview and Mike Bulatko of Belington; an aunt, Margaret “Peggy” Shaw of Galloway; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Bulatko was a 1964 graduate of Philip Barbour High School. She was a homemaker and was a former employee of the Reidbord Brothers at Elkins. She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a former officer in the Barbour County Chapter of the ARC. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m Saturday from the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel at 609 Crim Ave. in Belington. Elder Robert Robey will officiate and interment will follow in the Central Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday. Richard E. Bunner
Richard Eugene Bunner, 77, of Candlelight Drive, Morgantown, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born May 6, 1928, at Williamstown, a son of the late Dr. Rowe Randolph Bunner and Eunice Maude McCullough Bunner.
After obtaining his bachelor of arts degree from West Virginia University in 1950, Richard served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following military service, he began a long career in insurance. He owned and operated the Matt Insurance Agency in Lancaster, Ohio, for many years. Upon leaving the business world, he embarked on his life’s true passions — the pursuit of art, history and education. An accomplished watercolorist, he opened a gallery in Burnsville, N.C., where he displayed and sold his work. He ran numerous 5K and 10K races and held several North Carolina state records in his age group. He traveled extensively and regaled everyone with his stories of the road. His mind was a repository of information about subjects ranging from WVU football to Van Gogh to Chopin.
In 1999, Richard’s desire to move back to West Virginia and be closer to family led him to Morgantown. He enrolled in classes at WVU and was a fixture in the campus libraries and at the Blue Moose CafÈ. Pursuing a master’s degree in art history, he had completed all of his classes and was putting the final touches on his thesis.
Richard is survived by his former wife, Cathleen McDonald of Athens, Ohio; three sons, Mark Alan Bunner of E. Petersburg, Pa., Thomas Edward Bunner and wife, Yoko, of Fukuoka, Japan, and Richard Lewis Bunner of Honolulu, Hawaii; two daughters, Susan Mary McMillon and husband, Ralph, of Elkins and Laura Ann Romine and husband, Alan, of Clarksburg; one sister, Elsie Bernstein and husband, Chuck, of N. Hollywood, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Ann Bunner of California, Robin Quinlivan of Elkins, Tyler and Ciara Romine of Clarksburg and Kyle and Kiri Bunner of Fukuoka, Japan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar, Rowe Jr. and Thomas; and four sisters, Pauline Dexter, Dorothy Perkins, Naomi Smith and Ruth Bunner.
Cremation services were provided by Hastings Funeral Home.
There will be a gathering of friends and family at the Blue Moose CafÈ at 248 Walnut St. in Morgantown, Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to WVU’s College of Creative Arts.  From 12 Sep 2005.

Viola Virginia Burgess, 85, of Arthur, died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg where she had resided since November 2003.
She was born Jan. 31, 1920, in Hardy County and was the daughter of the late Archie W. Reel and Delphia (Smith) Reel Swick.

Pauline D. Burk
Pauline D. Burk, 95, a resident of College Avenue, Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born May 6, 1910, at Gilmer Station, a daughter of the late Porter Albro Darnall and Ruth Golden Steele Darnall.
On Feb. 1, 1930, she was married to Archie Lansing Burk, who preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1985.
Surviving are one daughter, Lynda Brawley and husband, Frank, of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandsons, Matthew Norem of Charlotte, N.C., and Robert Norem of Wilmington, N.C.; one granddaughter, Julia Norem and husband, Steve Dzama Jr., of Fayetteville, N.C.; two great-grandsons, Steven Dzama and Michael Dzama, both of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Norma Darnall of Buckhannon and Evelyn Burk of Weston; and two nephews, Dale Darnall of Buckhannon and Russell Darnall of Greenville, S.C.
Also preceding her in death were one brother, Robert Darnall; and one niece, Roberta Darnall.
She was a school teacher with the Gilmer County Board of Education, attended First United Methodist Church and was a member of Aletha Chapter 82 Order of the Eastern Star.

Joyce Burkes, 74, a former resident of Randolph County and resident of DeKalb, Miss., passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005, unexpectedly at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. John C. Burkes, founding pastor of Friendship Baptist Church of Valley Head, of DeKalb, Miss.; one son, the Rev. John C. Burkes Jr. and wife, Linda, of Tupelo, Miss.; one grandson, Will Jeremy Burkes of Montana; one granddaughter, Christen Burkes of Tupelo, Miss.; 13 nieces and nephews and 26 great-nieces and great-nephews; two sisters, Mary Catherine Poole of McCalla, Ala., and Linda Carol Crosby and husband, Terry, of Kingston, Tenn.; and two brothers, Ervin Hardy Parker Jr. and wife, Sybil, of California and John Paul Parker and wife, Geneva, of Knoxville, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by one son, William Hardy Burkes.

Bertha P. Burner
Bertha Pauline Burner, 84, a resident of Mansfield Place and a former resident of Baughman Towers and Independence Community, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, in Mansfield Place.
She was born Dec. 31, 1920, in Lillian Community, a daughter of the late Glen Jones and Leona Phillips Jones Moore.
She was united in marriage in 1944 to Russell L. Burner, who preceded her in death in 1981.
Surviving are two daughters, Ellen Lynnett Burner Jones and husband, Larry, of Philippi and Rhonda Pauline and husband, Lynn R. Davis, of Philippi; one son, Russell Lowell and wife, Karen Burner, of Philippi; two brothers, Berlin “Bud” Jones of Philippi and Alvey Jones of Malvern, Pa.; six grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; seven great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Ms. Burner was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce and Bernard Jones; one grandson, Craig Davis; three sisters, Irene, Lorea and Emma Maxine.
Ms. Burner worked for Broaddus Hospital as a nurses assistant for 24 years and retired in 1984. She was a member of the Independence and Union Church of Christ.

William W. Burner
William Warren “Bud” Burner, 88, a resident of 111 Maple Ave., Philippi, passed Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Philippi, a son of the late William Henry “Bunk” and Daisy Parker Burner.
He was united in marriage to the late Jessie Lee Zinn, who preceded him in death in October 1990.
Surviving are two daughter, Sharon L. Burner of Philippi and Charlotte S. Teti of El Centro, Calif.; two sisters, Virginia Shaw of Brea, Ohio, and Margret Daughtery; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Burner; and one sister, Mary Burner.
He was a member of the Masonic Order, was a retired foreman for Colorado Interstate Gas Co., was a Methodist by faith and in earlier years attended Mary’s Chapel Church.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the service hour. Donna D. Burnside
Donna Dae Burnside, 61, of Rock Cave, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston.
She was born April 14, 1944, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Ferry and Vera Cutlip Anderson.
She is survived by three sons, Mark Burnside and John Burnside, both of Rock Cave and Edward Burnside of Selbyville; two daughters, Vickie Williams of Buckhannon and Sheila Shannon of Rock Cave; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Larry Anderson and Harry Anderson, both of Rock Cave; and two sisters, Rita Huffman and Mary Russell, both of Buckhannon.
Donna attended the Canaan Community Church.
Friends will be received at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ms. Burnside will be moved to the Salem United Methodist Church Friday, where she will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Margaret E. Busch
Margaret E. “Peg” Busch, 89, of 2110 Pearcy Ave., Parkersburg, died July 3, 2005.
Surviving are her husband, John E. Busch Sr., to whom she was married 71 years. Mr. and Mrs. Busch were married June 14, 1934.
They were active in the Moose Lodge, where John E. Busch was the secretary and administrator of Lodge 1118 for approximately 30 years, president of the West Virginia Loyal Order of Moose and a retired banker. Peg was a housewife and mother.
They are the parents of two children, John E. Busch Jr. and wife, Molly, of Elkins and Richard J. Busch and wife, Andrea, of Newport News, Va. Also surviving Mrs. Busch is a sister, Lillian McCullough of Florida; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Busch had been in declining health, but had lived with her husband at their Pearcy Avenue home until recently. She was the daughter of the former mayor of Williamstown, John V. Everett and Clara Dell Westbrook Everett. Her parents preceded her in death.
Mrs. Busch was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Parkersburg.
At her request, her remains are to be cremated and memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Parkersburg. The Rev. George H. Spransy will conduct the service. Memorial gifts can be made to the Salvation Army in Wood County or to the First Presbyterian Church in memory of Margaret Busch. Kermit M. Butcher
On Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, Kermit M. Butcher died at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Home in Elkins at the age of 87.
Mr. Butcher was born June 20, 1918, in Onego, a son of the late Hurl and Bessie Huffman Butcher.
He married Cora Judy Butcher, who preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2003.
Kermit is survived by one son, Charles “Chuck” Butcher of Harman; one sister, Helen Butcher Ingram of Tyler, Texas; three nephews and six nieces.
He was preceded in death by his first-born son, Jeffrey M. Butcher; four brothers, Stern, Forest, Worth and Chester Butcher; and one sister, Lucy Hevener.
Upon graduation from Circleville High School (class of 1938), Kermit went to Pittsburgh and worked in the steel industry. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Air Force. After the war, he went to Cleveland and worked for a construction company. After a few years, Kermit came home to West Virginia and set up his own construction company in Elkins where he specialized in excavation, road building and paving. He stayed in that business for 55 years until the time of his death. Kermit was also active in real estate as an investor and enjoyed all phases of his work.
It could be said that Kermit was a lifelong member of the Seneca Rocks United Methodist Church. He never missed attending church each Sunday for a period of more than 30 years. In addition to his faithful attendance, he generously supported all church activities. Kermit’s charity extended to helping young people earn money for college and his work generally benefitted the people around him. At this time many of us feel a great loss, but we can be assured that Kermit will enjoy the life we all look forward to when we meet our Lord Jesus Christ in heaven.
Friends and family will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Seneca United Methodist Church in Onego on Monday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Eli Hostetler officiating. Interment will follow in the Harman Family Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests memorial donations in his name be made to the Seneca Rocks United Methodist Church.  From 12 Nov 2005.

Mary E. Butcher
Mary E. Butcher, 64, a resident of Masury, Ohio, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, in Ohio.
She was born Jan. 2, 1941, at Weston, a daughter of the late Clark H. and Alta M. King Butcher.
Surviving are three brothers, Fred Butcher and wife, Betty, of Lake City, Fla., Hobert Butcher and wife, Ellen, of Warren, Ohio, and Guy Butcher of Newton Falls, Ohio; three sisters, Clara Wert and husband, Fred, of Millersburg, Pa., Dolly Lloyd and husband, Bernard, of Buckhannon and Jenny Masko and husband, Andy, of Warren, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were four brothers, James, Charles, Russell and Kenneth Butcher.
She was a member of the Warren Baptist Temple in Warren, Ohio. Mary enjoyed crafts, bowling, swimming, and was best known for her humor, especially sharing jokes, and she kept everyone with a smile on their faces.
Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements for Mary E. Butcher.  From 31 May 2005.

Richard C. Buzzell
Richard Caldwell Buzzell died June 22, 2005 in Vero Beach, Fla. He lived in Elkins until he joined the Navy in 1928.
He was born Nov. 17, 1912, at Williams, a son of Lewis and Margarette Buzzell, who were long-time residents of Elkins.
He was on the ship USS Utah docked at Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941. His ship was sunk by torpedoes. He survived the bombing and served in the South West Pacific during the war.
He retired from the Navy in 1946 with the rank of chief petty office. He was recalled during the Korean War as a Naval recruiter.
In 1946, he married Helen Ann Steffin. They moved to Vero Beach, Fla., for their retirement.
Also surviving are one son, Richard of Edison, N.J.; one granddaughter, Stefani, one grandson, Rocky; and one brother, retired USAF Capt. Lewis H. Buzzell Jr. of De Land, Fla.  From 23 Jul 2005.
