Thurman S. Nair
Thurman Stanley Nair, 71, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2004, at his residence.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hinkle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren.  From 4 May 2004.

Bennie Nazelrod Sr.
Bennie E. Nazelrod Sr., 72, of Route 3, Box 349-A, Buckhannon, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
He was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Philippi, the son of the late Errice Johnson Nazelrod and Ida Pearl Bennett Nazelrod Westfall.
On Nov. 16, 1952, he was married to Mary Louise Miles Nazelrod, who survives.
Surviving are one son, Bennie E. Nazelrod II and wife, Dee, of Buckhannon; two daughters, Kay Tener and husband, Mike, of Beckley and Andrea Evans and husband, Mike, of Buckhannon; one brother, James Francis Cobb of Cleveland, Texas; one granddaughter, Melissa Acord of Oak Hill; three grandsons, Michael Tener of Beckley, Joshua Evans of Buckhannon and Benjamin Tyler Nazelrod of Buckhannon; one great-granddaughter, Miranda Acord of Oak Hill; and one great-grandson, Robert “Bo” Acord of Oak Hill.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Leonard Elwood Nazelrod, John Nazelrod, Wilford Humphries and Errice Nazelrod; and one sister, Audra Pearl Cutright.
He served in the U.S. Navy on the battleship USS Wisconsin during the Korean War.
He was an insurance agent with Nationwide Insurance, was head cashier for the A&P store in Buckhannon for 12 years, was a former member of the Draft Board, was a former city councilman, served as chairman of the Republican Executive Committee and was a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663.
He was Christian by faith and attended Word of Life Fellowship in Butchersville.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Way of Holiness Church. The Rev. Philip Strauss will officiate and interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery. Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and French Creek Chapter 36 of Disabled American Veterans will conduct military honors at the graveside.  From 7 Sep 2004.

Helen G. Neal
Helen G. Neal, 91, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Good Hope Personal Care Home in Buckhannon.
She was born May 16, 1912, in Oak Hill, the daughter of the late Joe Wyatt Webb and Carrie Ellen Shearer Webb.
On April 20, 1932, she was married to William Mark Neal Sr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1978.
Surviving are one son, W.M. Neal Jr. and wife, Vera, of Buckhannon; one sister, Ruby Jean Kopelman of East Bank; two grandsons, W.M. Neal III and wife, Lisa, of Buckhannon and Jeffrey S. Neal and wife, Janet, of Lexington, Ky.; one great-grandson, Matthew Neal of Lexington, Ky.; and three great-granddaughters, Natalie Neal of Buckhannon, Alexandra Neal of Lexington, Ky., and Jennifer Neal of Lexington, Ky.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Webb and Paul Webb.
She was a store owner and operator and a member of First Baptist Church on 40 Hart Ave.
She was a member of the Fred Brooks Garden Club and the West Virginia Wesleyan College Club, and was very active in the Eastern Star of Richwood for many years.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Richard McGuire will officiate and interment will follow in the End of the Trail Cemetery at Clintonville. William M. Neal Jr.
William Mark "Bill" Neal Jr. passed away after a sudden illness at his home in Buckhannon on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004.
He was born March 17, 1936, at Leslie in Greenbrier County, a son of the late William Mark Neal Sr. and Helen Webb Neal.
He was a long-time member of Buckhannon First Baptist Church, where he had served as moderator and trustee in past years. He was also a member of Summersville Lodge 76, Masonic Lodge. A graduate of West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, he was formerly employed at Miller’s Pharmacy in Buckhannon for 1957 to 1965, then was co-owner of Cain’s Drug Store in Weston, for the next 31 years. He was part-time pharmacist for Thompson’s Pharmacy in Buckhannon for the past eight years.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Vera Stewart Neal; two sons, Dr. William M. Neal III and wife, Lisa Crowder, of Buckhannon and Dr. Jeffrey Stewart Neal and wife, Janet Clark, of Lexington, Ky.; and four grandchildren, Natalie Elizabeth Neal of Buckhannon, and Matthew Stewart Neal, Alexandra Caitlin Neal and Jennifer Ashley Neal, all of Lexington, Ky.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Richard McGuire and Dr. Daniel Unger officiating. Interment will be in the Heavner Cemetery Mausoleum at Buckhannon. Mabel Mae Weese Nelan, 83, a resident of Route 1, Beverly, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2004, at her residence.

Mabel Nelan
Mabel Mae Weese Nelan, 83, a resident of Route 1, Beverly, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2004, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Elkins, the daughter of the late Elam Brian Weese and Elva Teter Weese.
On Jan. 31, 1934, in Randolph County, she was married to Floyd Daniel “Blackie” Nelan, who preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1998.
Surviving are two sons, Robert “Pete” Nelan of Beverly and Donald W. Nelan of Elkins; and two daughters, Frances Pingley of Acworth, Ga., and Jeanie Smith of Smithfield, Ohio.
Ten grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Preceding her in death were two grandchildren, Bob Riggleman and Gary Pingley.
Mrs. Nelan was a housewife and with her husband raised several foster children.
She was an active member of the Randolph County Senior Center and a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Beverly.
At the request of the deceased, her remains will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, W.Va. 26520 or to the Randolph County Senior Center, Fifth Street and Railroad Avenue, Elkins, W.Va. 26241 in memory of Mrs. Nelan. Earl Nelson
Earl “Pee Wee” Nelson, 74, a resident of Route 2, Elkins, the Kerens community, departed this life Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. Death was attributed to cardiac arrest.
He was born Tuesday, April 29, 1930, at Simoda, near Spruce Knob, Pendleton County, a son of the late Albert Solon Nelson and May Kile Nelson. On Jan. 14, 1951, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Mary Johanna Hedrick, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Mark Nelson of Carrboro, N.C.; two daughters, Patricia Ann Kittle and husband, Richard, Elkins, and Tammie Elaine Thompson and husband, Richard, of Elkins; five brothers, his twin, Burrell Nelson and wife, Betty, of Harrisonburg, Va., Granville Nelson and wife, Norma, of Franklin, Bruce Nelson of Harrisonburg, Va., Troy Nelson and wife, Shirley, of Covington, Va., Sam Nelson and wife, Lilo, of Tacoma, Wash.; four grandchildren, Chad Aaron Bartlett of Keyser, Kristyn Lianne Kittle, a student at Marshall University, Ashley Layne Thompson, a student at West Virginia University, Erika Leigh Thompson of Elkins; and three stepgrandchildren, Cindy Kittle Sullivan, Douglas Kittle and Holly Kittle Weese.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were one son, Johnnie Lee Nelson; five brothers, Mason Bennett, Robbie, Mason, Clifton and Abraham Nelson; and one granddaughter, Amanda Dawn Nelson.
He attended the one room Mt. Joel School at Simoda, was a well-known carpenter, was an expert cabinet maker and woodworker, attended the Irons Chapel Church at Pheasant and the Moore United Methodist Church at Moore and was a former member of the IOOF Lodge at Montrose.

Mildred Josephine Nelson, 78, a former resident of Mabie and a resident of Nella’s, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Mildred J. Nelson
Mildred Josephine Nelson, 78, a former resident of Mabie and a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home in Elkins, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, where she had been a patient since Sunday. She had been in failing health for the past several years, however, her condition had become critical during the past week.
Born May 10, 1926, in Cassity, she was the daughter of the late Nels and Daisy Charm Counts Nelson.
She had never married. She is survived by one brother, Herman Sutherland of Mabie. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews, several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, and a special close friend, Joan Riggleman.
Preceding her in death besides her parents are two brothers, Chambers and James Sutherland.
Mildred was a member of Harrison Community Church. She loved working any kind of puzzles including jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Mildred also loved watching game shows with “Jeopardy” being her favorite. She was a homemaker.
Friends will be received on Saturday at the F.E. Runner Funeral Chapel from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Greg Lanham, pastor of the Harrison Community Church, will officiate. Robert K. Nelson
Mr. Robert Kirk Nelson, 69 years, a resident of Struthers, Ohio, passed away Thursday afternoon at his home.
He was born March 22, 1935 at Slaty Fork, a son of the late Jefferson and Grace Harper Nelson.
He was married to Elizabeth Elaine Haddix Nelson who survives in Struthers, Ohio. Also surviving a one son, David Nelson of Struthers, Ohio, two daughters, Debra Foster, Hillsville of Pennsylvania and Tami Bragg of Girard, Ohio. A brother, Harper Nelson, of Marlinton; two sisters, Barbara Jane Shaw and Sondra Bee Cochran, both of Marlinton, and eight grandchildren also survive. Also preceding him in death were a son, Kirk Nelson, and a brother, Jackie Nelson.
Mr. Nelson was employed as a steel worker for LTV Steel Corp. prior to his retirement.

Sarah H. Nelson
Sarah Haffner Nelson, 94, died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004.
Mrs. Nelson was born in Elkins on June 7, 1910, the daughter of the late S.B. Haffner, a prominent Elkins businessman in the 1920s and First Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1135, and his wife, the late Grace Zullinger Haffner.
She had one brother, the late Robert Zullinger Haffner.
On Nov. 21, 1936, Mrs. Nelson began her life with John G. Nelson when they married in Chambersburg, Pa. The Nelsons enjoyed two children, Jenny Nelson Phillips of Elkins and John R. Nelson of Gainesville, Fla. Mrs. Phillips is the wife of Willard “Bill” Phillips Jr., and Mr. Nelson is married to the former Bonnie Keys of Masontown. The elder Mr. Nelson passed away March 10, 1988.
Mrs. Nelson was loved and admired by three grandsons, Scott E. Gunning of Atlanta, Ga., Nicholas Nelson of Gainesville, Fla., and John N. Gunning of Fairmont. She also had three great-grandchildren.
In 1926, she graduated from Elkins High School and later from Davis & Elkins College with a degree in education. She was a teacher for Randolph County Schools, touching the lives of students in Coalton, Mill Creek and Elkins Junior High School. She retired in 1975.
She most recently lived at The Atrium in Gainesville, Fla., where she moved after retirement. She visited her hometown of Elkins in the summer months.
Mrs. Nelson was a lifelong member of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church. While a resident of Elkins, she was active in the Randolph County community, holding memberships in the Chi Omega Sorority, the Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Randolph County Education Association. She also volunteered time with the Mountain State Forest Festival in its early years.

Viola Catherine Nelson, 86, of Cabins, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Linda Moats Nesbitt
Linda Sue Moats Nesbitt, 59, a resident of the Dodson Run Road, Beverly, departed this life early Saturday morning, March 6, 2004, at the Talbott Personal Care Home in Belington. She had been in declining health.
She was born Tuesday, May 9, 1944, at Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Lawrence E. Moats and Lena M. Monahan Moats.
She was married to Thomas C. Nesbitt, who survives in Beverly.
Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Mildred H. Rhodes of Elkins; one daughter, Tonya L. Zirbs and husband, Patrick, of Elkins; two granddaughters, Nakita and Ashley Tenney, both of Elkins; two brothers, David H. Moats of Elkins and Kevin T. Moats of Columbia, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were an infant sister; one half sister, Roberta "Bobbie" Long; and one half brother, Lawrence "Sonny" Moats.
Linda lived in the Elkins area all her life and was a graduate of Elkins High School in the class of 1962. She was a graduate of the Morgantown Beauty Academy with the class of 1963 and was a hairdresser for 34 years.
She was the owner and operator of Lena’s Beauty Shop and the Nesbitt Beauty and Barber Supply, both of Elkins, until her retirement in 1997.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Elkins.

Clifford Nestor, 75, a resident of Hendricks and more recently a resident of the Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, departed this life this morning, June 16, 2004, at the home. He had been in declining health.

Clifford “Kip” Nestor, 75, a resident of Hendricks, and more recently a resident of the Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, departed this life Wednesday morning, June 16, 2004, at the home. He had been in declining health.
He was born Saturday, March 16, 1929, at St. George, the son of the late Porter Wade Nestor and Flodie Mae Roy Nestor.
On June 8, 1949, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Betty Phillips, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Larry Wade Nestor and wife, Connie, of Hendricks, Gary Wayne Nestor and wife, Janet, of Hambleton, and Jerry Clifford Nestor and wife, Melissa, of Hendricks; one daughter, Janet L. Mann and husband, Lee, of Williamsburg, Va.; two brothers, Russell Nestor of New Jersey and Murl “Honey” Nestor of Hendricks; one sister, Lucille Ball of Durango, Colo.; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was one great grandchild.
He attended the Mt. Zion and Hamrick Schools, had worked in construction and the sawmill business with his father. He was a truck driver, worked for C&E Logging and retired in 1991. He was a member of the Ruritan Club, attended the First United Methodist Church at Parsons and loved his pickup truck.

Daniel Patrick Nestor, 76, a resident of the Bull Run community, St. George, departed this life late Friday evening, March 26, 2004, at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Monday, Nov. 7, 1927, in St. George, the son of the late Waitman W. Nestor and Virginia M. Owens Nestor.
Surviving are one brother, Clinton M. Nestor and wife, Anita, of Madison, Ohio; six sisters, Bessie Pennington and Maude Burns, both of Parsons, Virginia E. Thomas and Ann Getz, both of Morgantown, Carrie M. Wisard of Akron, Ohio, and Susan Poling of Kasson; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles W. Nestor; and one sister, Orpha Gainer.
He attended the one-room school at Bull Run and was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1946.
He served with the U.S. Navy. He was a former employee of the Industrial Rayon Co. in Paintsville, Ohio, and he was a substitute mail carrier at St. George. He was a farmer and a member of the former Brethren Church at Bull Run.

Hubert B. Nestor
Hubert "Bud" Berton Nestor, 85, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Sunday morning, Jan. 4, 2004, at the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to kidney failure.
He was born Wednesday, April 3, 1918, at Parsons, the son of the late James Berton Nestor and Fayah Goff Nestor.
On Dec. 1, 1945, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Sarah Bell Summerfield, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Ernest Lee Nestor, and one daughter, Deborah Faye Streets and husband, Larry, all of Leadmine; two sisters, Elloween "Pat" Goss of Parsons and Alberta Chrislip of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren, Chatel, Adam, Wesley and Emily.
He was preceded in death by one son, Mark Burton Nestor.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1937. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for 37 years for the former Parsons Tannery until it closed, and at the Tucker County Court House, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of the Parsons Volunteer Fire Department for many years and a member of the former Garnett Post Veterans of Foreign Wars of Parsons.
He was an avid sports fan.

Kenneth “Bliss” Nestor, 91, a resident of the Charlie Moore Road near St. George, departed this life Sunday evening, Jan. 25, 2004, at his home. He had been in declining health.
He was born Sunday, Nov. 17, 1912, at Texas Mountain, St. George, the son of the late Roy B. Nestor and Emma C. Kelly.
On Sept. 15, 1940, he was married to the former Lecy Wilmoth, who preceded him in death on April 23, 1993.
Surviving are five sons, Allen Ford Nestor and wife, Eleanor, of Dry Fork, Robert Lee Nestor and wife, Patty, Billy Wayne Nestor and wife, Renee, John Roy Nestor and wife, Diana, and Tommy Gene Nestor and wife, Amy, all of St. George; two daughters, Addie Maxine Sinclair and husband, James, of Warrenton, Va., and Betty Gaye Turner and husband, David, of Morgantown; one sister, June Miller of Texas Mountain; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He attended the Murphy School at Texas Mountain. During World War II, he worked for the shipyards at Norfork, Va. He owned and operated several sawmills in the area, and owned and operated the shoe shop of Parsons for many years.
He worked for the former Woolen Mill, Phil Haddix Heating and Plumbing, was a scrap and fur dealer for many years, and was a carpenter and a farmer.
He was a member of the Sugar Grove Church at Texas Mountain.

Surviving are one son, Robert Glenn “Tucker” Nestor and wife, Kim, of Hambleton; three daughters, Barbara Ellen Simmons and husband, Rick, of Hambleton, Karen Elaine Nestor and husband, Randy, of Moore and Rhonda Marie Helmick and husband, Michael, of Parsons; one brother, Don Nestor and wife, Kay, of Clover Run; one stepbrother, Phil Phillips of Parsons; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was one granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Simmons.
He attended Parsons High School, worked for the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, retiring during 1988 after 36 years and was a tree farmer. He loved his grandchildren.

Margaret Fickle Haher, Lake Wylie, S.C,; his paternal grandparents, John and Hanna Ware Nestor, Parkersburg; and loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1999 and was attending Fairmont State University. When he wasn’t in school, he worked for the family business, Valley Distributors, enjoyed fast cars and spending time with his bulldog, Toby “Buggy” Nestor.

Icy Newlon
Icy Newlon, 92, a resident of Holbrook’s Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at the nursing home.
She was born Nov. 8, 1911, at Kedron, the daughter of the late Seymour Osburn and Vernie Poling Osburn.
In 1930 she married Carl Newlon, who preceded her in death in November 1964.
Surviving are one daughter, Opal Booth and husband, Don, of Conneaut, Ohio; one grandson, Jeff Booth of Conneaut, Ohio; one granddaughter, Sandra Dent of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vera Newlon; two brothers and four sisters.
She was a homemaker and member of the Gertrude Chapel Church.

Ellen Cutright Newman, 81, a resident of 188 New Market Reservoir Road, New Market, Va., departed this life Sunday, July 25, 2004, at her home.
She was born Wednesday, Feb. 21, 1923, at Adolph, the daughter of the late Jared and Maude Bowyer Cutright.
Mrs. Newman was twice married. Her first husband, Albert T. Finnell, preceded her in death in September 1976. Her second husband, W. Selwyn Newman, survives.
Also surviving are one son, A. Thomas Finnell Jr. of McLean, Va.; two daughters, Cheryl Papierniak of Winchester, Va., and Jane Johnston of Melrude, Minn.; one stepson, Wallace S. Newman Jr. of Dinwiddie, Va.; two stepdaughters, Marianne Gearhart of Centreville, Va., and Barbara Ann Garrison of Warrenton, Va.; one sister, Juanita Weese and husband, Harry, of Elkins; three brothers, Wren “Buck” Cutright and Luther W. Cutright, both of Elkins, and Paul G. Cutright of Bradford, Pa.; nine grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She retired from the Bureau of Radiological Health in Rockville, Md., where she served as executive secretary.
She attended First United Methodist Church of Broadway, Va.

Dorsey W. Nichols
Dorsey William Nichols went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004.
He was born Nov. 15, 1930, in Fairmont, the son of the late William and Ethel Marie Nichols.
Dorsey was a Protestant by faith. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.
He retired from the Owens Illinois glass plant when the plant closed.
He was in the U.S. Air Force and was a sergeant with the 261st Cargo Carrier Transport Service from 1942-1946.
Dorsey is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Dorothy Lucille Vincent Nichols; his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Roger Stevens of Elkins; his granddaughter and her husband, Tami and Scott Humphrey of Elkins; his grandson and his fianceÈ, Todd Stevens of Witchita, Kansas, and Lisa Ruggiero of Fairmont; his great-grandson, Evan Michael Humphrey of Elkins; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Offutt and Janet Morrison, both of Fairmont, and Patty and Homer Belknap of Canton, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Marlene Nichols of Ontario, Canada; one brother-in-law, Earl Vincent of Fairmont; two sisters-in-law, Tressie Layne and Helen Nichols, both of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Harold Nichols and Raymond and Maxine Nichols; and three brothers-in-law, Harry Offutt, James Morrison and William Layne.

Donzel W. Nicholson
The Rev. Donzel W. Nicholson, 82, of Reger Street, Buckhannon, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
The Rev. Nicholson was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Doddridge County, the son of the late Thomas Wesley Nicholson and Edra Carder Nicholson.
He was united in marriage Dec. 25, 1949, to Valta C. James Nicholson, who preceded him in death.
Donzel is survived by his only child, Sheila D. Nicholson Carpenter; three grandchildren, Gray, Faith and Sarah Tomblyn; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Blaine and Olivia; two stepgrandchildren, Missy and Letitia; five stepgreat-grandchildren, Joey, Katie, Emily, Matthew and Ryan; also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Monzel, Ted and Bill; and three sisters, Rene, Ann and Helen.
The Rev. Nicholson was ordained in 1955 in the First Baptist Church in Weston and was a member of the Hepzibah Baptist Church. He participated in the American Baptist Convention for 40 years. He pastored the Bethel, Hepzibah and Tenmile churches.
He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Robert Nicholson Jr.
Robert “Nick” Nicholson Jr., 58, of Candler, N.C., died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville, N.C.
A native of Barbour County, Mr. Nicholson was the son of Ruth Martin Myers of St. Petersburg, Fla., and the late Robert Leroy Nicholson Sr. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles Poling.
Mr. Nicholson was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and the owner and operator of Asheville Crane Inc.
He was a 32nd-degree Mason and in his semi-retirement loved spending time with friends and family at the KOA Campground in Cherokee, N.C.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his loving wife, Teresa Morris Nicholson; one daughter, Kimberly Isner and her husband, Randall, of Candler, N.C.; one son, Glenn Benton of Fletcher, N.C.; one grandson, Payton Isner; one sister, Cathy Standish of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and two brothers, Chuck Nicholson of Newark, Ohio, and Jim Poling of Philippi.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road with his brother-in-law, the Rev. Floyd Morris, officiating. Interment will follow at noon in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, N.C., with military honors conducted by Asheville High School Junior ROTC Marine Corps. Genevieve "Jenny" Norris, 64, of Route 1, Moatsville, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 12, 2004, at her home following a three-month illness.
She was born Nov. 19, 1939, in Philippi, the daughter of the late Ersel and Deamy Ann Newman Newman.
On Nov. 9, 1958, she was married to Darrel R. Norris, who survives at Route 1, Moatsville.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Kay and Gordon Boram of Philippi; three grandchildren, Derek Scott Norris, Joshua Boram and Ethan Boram; and one foster granddaughter, Christa Marshall.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Jean Newman; and by three brothers, Hartsel Newman, Raymond Newman and Kenneth L. Newman.
Mrs. Norris was a homemaker, former housekeeper at the Sugar Creek Children’s Home and a former babysitter.
She was a member of Peoples Chapel Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and Pastor’s Aid Society, was a Sunday School teacher and youth counselor, and sang with the Youth Choir.

Eldora Nuzum
Eldora Marie Bolyard Nuzum, the first woman editor of a daily newspaper in West Virginia, departed this life at her home at 504 Orchard St., Elkins, on Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, after a long illness.
Mrs. Nuzum had been editor emerita of The Inter-Mountain daily newspaper since 1992 after serving as editor of the paper for over three prior decades.
She was born May 10, 1926, in Grafton, the daughter of the late Roy Everett Bolyard and the late Georgia Ellen Deavers Bolyard.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Randolph County Circuit Judge Jack Robert Nuzum. Judge Nuzum served in the West Virginia House of Delegates representing Taylor and Randolph counties. Jack Nuzum was a law partner of former Gov. Herman Guy Kump and Cyrus Kump, in the firm of Kump, Kump and Nuzum. After their deaths, his firm was titled Nuzum and Smith.
Mrs. Nuzum was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Glenn Bolyard; and her sister, Vonda Jean Bolyard Norris.
Surviving are her sons, Jefferson Patton Nuzum and wife, Carrie Nuzum, of Valley Bend, and Jon Cedric Nuzum and wife, Diane Nuzum, of Elkins. Also surviving are one sister Dr. Cassandra Bolyard Whyte and husband, William R. Whyte Jr., of Cross Lanes; one sister-in-law, Jackie Bolyard of Bridgewater, Va.; and one brother-in-law, Clyde Norris of Ridgeley.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lydia Ann-Marie Nuzum and Derek Warren Nuzum, both of Valley Bend. Several nieces and nephews survive including Rick Norris, Jon Robert Bolyard, Michelle Bolyard Wescott and Jennifer Whyte Onks. Her great-nieces and great-nephews surviving include Christopher Norris, Lauren Kate Wescott, Isabelle Bolyard and Thomas Onks.
Mrs. Nuzum received many honors during her lifetime. She was named a Distinguished West Virginian by Gov. Gaston Caperton and will be listed as the first woman editor of a daily newspaper in the state in the West Virginia Encyclopedia to be published soon by the West Virginia Humanities Council.
Mrs. Nuzum was named the Outstanding Woman in Business by the West Virginia Women’s Commission in 1987. She was also the first woman president of the Press Editors of West Virginia.
She received several awards such as Outstanding Business Woman of the Year by the Beta Alpha Beta business honorary of Davis & Elkins College, Citizen of the Year in 1976 from the Elkins Jaycees, and received the Masthead Award from the West Virginia University School of Journalism in 1968.
Over the years, she served in leadership capacities for various organizations to include the Randolph Chapter of the American Cancer Society, president of the Junior Woman’s Club of Elkins, and president of the Newcomers Club of Elkins.
Until 2000, she was secretary of the WNPB-TV Public Broadcasting Advisory Board in Morgantown.
Paul Harvey recognized her efforts to rebuild the Elkins newspaper after it burned to the ground in 1974. He offered his radio newscast presentation about “The Newspaper that Wouldn’t Die.”
Mrs. Nuzum interviewed three presidents of the United States during her working tenure to include Presidents Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and Harry S. Truman. She was invited to the White House three times. Mrs. Nuzum was the only female editor at the first invitational press conference.
Also, she interviewed President Truman on a famous whistle-stop train tour through Grafton. She interviewed him seated in a passenger seat across from him.
Mrs. Nuzum was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Elkins.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dr. Ellis E. Conley officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Woodsdale Memorial Park at Grafton.
