William Harrison “Harry” Cale, 66, a former resident of the St. George area and a resident of Baltimore, Md., departed this life Saturday, April 10, 2004, at his home.

William H. Cale
William Harrison “Harry” Cale, 66, a former resident of the St. George area and a resident of Baltimore, Md., departed this life Saturday, April 10, 2004, at his home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.
He was born Monday, May 31, 1937, at Licking Creek, St. George, the son of the late Amos Cale and Mable Shrout.
He was married to the former Carol M. Sigley, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Danny Cale and Linda, and Randy Cale and Kim, all of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, Rodger Cale and wife, Ester, of Independence and John A. Cale of Baltimore, Md.; four sisters, Rosie Amie and husband, Arch, of Licking Creek, Anna Fitzwater and husband, Loren, of Montrose, Betty Host and husband, Virgil, of Terra Alta, and Patty Cale of Tunnelton; and three granddaughters, Mandy Willhott, Alicia Randall and Brittany Cale.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Jerry Cale, Virgil Cale, Everett Cale and Dale Cale; and three sisters, Mary Cale, Shirley Cale and Orpha Hayes.
He attended the schools of Licking Creek and Parsons. He served in the U.S. Marines and was a burner for L&S Welding Co.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home in Parsons from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Final rites will be at the funeral home parlor at 11 a.m. Thursday. Gladys Calvert
Gladys Pauline Saffle Calvert, 66, of Kingwood, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 4, 1937, in Pine Bluff, the daughter of the late Lester B. and Katherine A. Fisher Saffle.
She was a 1955 graduate of University High School and worked as a bookkeeper for City Supply & Builders in Kingwood.
She was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church and the St. Sebastian Altar Society, was treasurer of the Kingwood Civic Club, a charter member of the Kingwood "Late Bloomers" Chapter of the Red Hat Society, bowled in the Thursday Morning Coffee League at Pineview Lanes and was a member of the Preston Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary.
She was an avid shopper and an excellent seamstress and made both of her daughters’ wedding gowns.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Paul E. Calvert; one son, Paul Kevin Calvert and wife, Kari Calvert, of Elkins; two daughters, Paula Calvert Bass and husband, Jeff Bass, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Pamella Calvert Brown of Kingwood; three sisters, Betty Nicklow of Cleveland, Ohio, Thelma Shaffer of Kingwood and Mary K. Viggiani of Strongsville, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Austin Brown of Kingwood and Cody Calvert and Hannah Calvert, both of Elkins.
The Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. May 21 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 322 E. Main St., Kingwood, with the Rev. Father Mark Ward, C.P., V.F., as celebrant. Burial followed the service at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be directed to Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Norma J. Campbell
Norma Jean Campbell, 69, of 21 Renney’s Mobile Home Park in Buckhannon, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She was born May 8, 1934, in Lewis County, the daughter of the French Linger and Ressie Shoulders Linger.
On June 19, 1957, she was married to Hubert Campbell, who preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1983.
Surviving are three daughters, Janie Diana Campbell, Deborah Nuzum and Oma Ellen Withers, all of Buckhannon; one son, Lawerence Samuel Campbell of Columbus, Ohio; five brothers, Carl Linger of Glenville, Thomas Linger of Horner, Norman Lee Linger of Buckhannon, Jimmy Linger of Buckhannon and Ralph Linger of Horner; several nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Louise Hefner and Glenna Joann Starcher.
She was a homemaker and a Christian by faith.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Liberty in Christ Church where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Raymond Campbell
Raymond Jackson “Jack” Campbell, formerly of Buckhannon, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at his home at 135 S. Marmec Drive in Holland, Pa.
He was born June 7, 1930, in Buckhannon, the son of Mabel Hoover Campbell.
In 1952, he was married to Ann Stewart, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Bruce Campbell and wife, Tammy, of Pennsylvania and Dana Campbell of Pennsylvania; one daughter, Sherri Campbell McAllister and husband, Patrick, of Holland, Pa.; and one granddaughter, Jennifer McAllister.
He is also survived by two brothers, Charles Campbell of Texas and George Campbell of North Carolina.
Mr. Campbell was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School. He received a bachelor of arts degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College where he was a charter member of the Theta Chi fraternity, and received a master’s degree from West Virginia University.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, he taught school in the Pennsbury School District in Bucks County, Pa., for 38 years.
Mr. Campbell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Buckhannon.

Robert E. Campbell
Robert Earle Campbell, 80, of Rehoboth Beach, Del., died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at his residence.
Born in Elkins on Dec. 21, 1923, he was the son of the late Edward Thompson Campbell and Louida Marstiller Campbell.
Mr. Campbell graduated from Elkins High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Africa and Italy, where he met his wife, the former Mara Marie Serretti. They were married July 22, 1946, in Italy.
He is survived by his wife, Mara Marie Campbell; one son, Gene Campbell of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Armentrout of Elkins and Anita Phillips of Cumberland, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles L. Campbell.
Mr. Campbell was a building design draftsman by trade. He worked in various positions for Montgomery County, Md., for 25 years.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6483 of Milford, Del., and was an avid Washington Redskins fan.
Arrangements were handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins Lodge Chapel 1449 of Lewes, Del. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Frank Deming officiating. Interment followed at Henlopen Memorial Park near Melton, Del. Friends were received from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Sara E. Campbell
Sara Evans Campbell, 85, of Buckhannon, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2004, at her home.
She was born Feb. 9, 1919, in Silica, the daughter of the late Reese Thomas Evans and Elva May Sines Evans Norman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard “Soupy” Campbell, the former owner of Upshur Motors; one daughter, Betty Jo Rovello; and one sister, Gertrude Jean Hardy.
Mrs. Campbell owned and operated the Ridgecrest Day Care Nursery on Island Avenue for 18 years, which was the first licensed day care center in the area.
She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and the Art Guild.
She is survived by one brother, Junior Evans of Buckhannon; two sisters, Mabel Gillespie of Elkins, formerly of Buckhannon, and Mildred Black of Buckhannon; one daughter, Carol Jean Dunn and husband, Thomas, of Buckhannon and Naples, Fla.; one son, Phillip Campbell and wife, Paula, of Fort Mill, S.C.; five grandchildren, Todd Rovello and wife, Tammy, of Bridgeport, Rodney Rovello and wife, Vikki, of Buckhannon, Tracy Dunn-Cunningham and husband, Mark, of Buckhannon, Jennifer Dunn Fluke and husband, Eric, of Buckhannon, and Courtney Campbell of Buckhannon; and eight great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Victoria Rovello of Bridgeport, Ciara and Josh Rovello of Buckhannon, Carson and Grant Cunningham of Buckhannon and Bryson and Caroline Fluke of Buckhannon.
Friends were received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home where funeral services were at 11 a.m. today with the Rev. Enis Chichetelli Canale, 83, a resident of Bridge Street, Norton, departed this life Monday evening, Nov. 29, 2004, at her residence. She had been in declining health.

Enis C. Canale
Enis Chichetelli Canale, 83, a resident of Bridge Street, Norton, departed this life Monday evening, Nov. 29, 2004, at her residence. She had been in declining health.
She was born Monday, May 2, 1921, at Dartmoor, a daughter of the late Frank Chichetelli and Vernie Cimarella Chichetelli. In June 1953 in New York City, N.Y., she was married to Rudolph Canale, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Anna Canale and Caroline Puppo and husband, Marty, all of Westchester County, N.Y.; one brother, John D. Chichetelli of Ohio; one sister, Eleanor Avona of Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her parents was one brother, Orlondo G. Chichetelli.
She was a graduate of Coalton High School, a homemaker, a member of the Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church and always helped with the Saint Patrick’s spaghetti dinners. She enjoyed crafts and bingo.

Charles B. Carbaugh
Charles Benjamin Carbaugh, 32, of Route 4, Box 632-2, Buckhannon, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born Sept. 8, 1971, in Baltimore, Md., the son of Vickie McDonald, who survives in Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one sister, Angela Carbaugh of Philippi; maternal grandparents, Doris and Harold McDonald of Buckhannon; maternal aunts, Patricia, Beverly and Lori; maternal cousins, Danny, Melissa, Melinda, Joe, Cody, Marco and Kaleigh; and a maternal great-uncle and great-aunt, Ronald and Ann.
He was a member of Wayside Baptist Southern Baptist Church.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Pastor Don Knotts will officiate and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery.  From 19 Apr 2004.

Johnny Carder
Johnny L. Carder, 71, a resident of 333 S. Main St., Philippi, passed away at 5 a.m. Sunday, June 13, 2004, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 5, 1933, in Braxton County, a son of the late Otha and Agatha Strange Carder. He was united in marriage on April 17, 1968, to the former Mary L. Fultineer, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Debra L. and husband James G. Mitchell of Philippi; three stepsons, Arnold Lee Messer, Bruce Wayne Messer and Dalc Allen and wife Debbie Messer, all of Florida; one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and wife Mildred Carder of Gassaway; and five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Mike Carder.
Mr. Carder retired from Barbour County Coal Co. as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of AARP and was a Baptist by faith.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 3 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with speaker Walter McGee officiating. Interment will follow in the Forrest Lawn Cemetery at Weston. Doris J. Carothers
Doris Jane King Carothers, 85, a resident of Apple Creek Estates, passed away Saturday evening, June 5, 2004, in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.
She was born Jan. 1, 1919, at New Franklin, Mo., a daughter of the late Dr. Albert King and Kathleen King.
On March 7, 1946, at Nevada, Mo., she was married to Bert Franklin Carothers, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kathleen C. Leo of Sylvester Drive and Susan C. Dewey of Attica, Mich. Four grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Carothers was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins.
There will be no funeral services held for Mrs. Carothers. At the request of the deceased, her remains will be cremated. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute, P.O. Box 9301, Morgantown, W.Va. 26506. Leslie R. Carpenter
Leslie R. Carpenter, was born Jan. 17, 1943, and died Sept. 4, 2004.
He was the son of Doris E. Masters Carpenter of Wheeling and the late Raymond W. Carpenter; was the beloved husband of the late Sue Ellen Nestor Carpenter.
He is survived by a daughter, Belinda Sue and Neil Armstrong of Loveland, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Dylan James and Madelyn Leslie Armstrong.
Leslie is also survived by two brothers, Larry and Cathy Carpenter of Wheeling and Gary and Jennifer Carpenter of Elizabeth, Pa.
Mr. Carpenter was a graduate of Warwood High School and received his bachelor of science degree in accounting from West Liberty State College.
He began his employment with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and later went on to work for the West Virginia State Department of Tax and Revenue in Charleston.
He was the business manager for the Ohio County Schools in Wheeling, then returned to and retired from the West Virginia State Department of Tax and Revenue.
After retirement, he worked for the Smart Group certified public accountant firm in Huntington.
Leslie also served as a volunteer on the board of Goodwill Industries.
He was a lifelong member of the Warwood Christian Church in Wheeling. From 1993 until the death of his wife in 1999, he resided in St. George where they attended St. George United Methodist Church.
Services were held Tuesday at the Kepner Funeral Home in Wheeling. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Easter Seals, Goodwill Industries or the Woodie Nestor Fund of the Tucker County Endowment Foundation.  From 11 Sep 2003.

Retha V. Carpenter
Retha Virginia Carpenter, 85, of Route 1, French Creek, the Etna community, and formerly of Hemlock, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
She was born March 3, 1919, at Queens, the daughter of the late George Gooden and Ocie Lanham Gooden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sullie Carpenter, on March 12, 2001.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by one daughter, Madeline Page and husband, Paul, of Gaines; three sons, Dwight Carpenter and wife, Carolyn, with whom she made her home at French Creek, Allen Carpenter and wife, Joyce, of Selbyville, and Michael Carpenter of Arlington; one brother, Marvin Gooden of Georgia; three sisters, Areta Wilfong, Leota Squires and Janice Tenney; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Gooden.
She was a member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church at Hemlock.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral chapel with Pastor Holly J. Vernon E. Carpenter
Vernon E. Carpenter, 73, of 6082 Shaffer Road, NW, Warren, Ohio, died from cancer at 8:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 10, 1931, in Luke, Md., the son of Earl and Lora R. Clark Carpenter.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and made the rank of staff sergeant. He was a Warren area resident since 1955, coming from Buckhannon, and was employed at ITT Grinnell as a pipefitter for 21 years, retiring in 1977.
He was a member of Champion Christian Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 of Buckhannon, and enjoyed NASCAR racing, baseball, football, his Burger King buddies and especially his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Ellen Hinzman Carpenter, whom he married Feb. 23, 1952; his son, Steven Carpenter and wife, Linda, of Belmont, N.C.; his daughter, L. Diane Carpenter of Mt. Holly, N.C.; his grandchildren, Adam Carpenter and wife, Reba, of Champion, Ohio, and Matthew and Jana Carpenter, Jason Poole and Lance Jimison, all of Belmont, N.C.; his great-grandson, David Allen Carpenter; his brothers, Clifford Carpenter of Warren, Ohio, Hubert Carpenter of Buckhannon and Billy Carpenter of Glen Dale; and his sisters, Loretta Miller, Jean Osburn, Janet Carpenter and Bonnie Caynor, all of Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David A. Carpenter; and his sister, Patty Miller.
The Rev. Kenneth Hopkins will conduct a prayer service at 8 p.m. today at the Robert H. Roberts-Clark Funeral Home in Warren, Ohio. Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Sand Run Baptist Church in Buckhannon. Arbutus Carr
Arbutus Carr, 88, a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, formerly of Elkins Manor where she resided 20 years, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004, at the center.

Arbutus E. Carr
Arbutus Elizabeth Carr, 88, formerly of Elkins Manor where she was a resident for 20 years, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004, in the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center where she had been a resident for the past three years. She had been in failing health since that time.
Born May 4, 1915, at Bowden, she was the daughter of the late Haymond T. and Mary Elizabeth Clayton Barkley.
In 1936, she was united in marriage to Orval Lawrence Carr, who preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1968.
She is survived by three daughters, Melva Jean Iseli and husband, Neal, of Cumming, Ga., Mildred Ruth Slayton and husband, Ron, of Cross Lanes, and Shirley Deloris Booth and husband, Bill, of Heathsville, Va.; and two sons, Jack Carr and wife, Brenda, and Jerry Carr and wife, Carolyn, all of Elkins. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Lawrence Carr and James Carr; four sisters, Liza Shipley, Gertrude Cole, Laura Barkley and Artie Lambert; and four brothers, Sam Barkley, Fred Barkley, Clyde Barkley and Patrick Barkley.
She was a member of the Elkins Church of the Brethren.
She retired from the Dietary Department of Memorial General Hospital and worked for the Foster Grandparent Program for many years.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
The family received friends at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services were conducted from the F.E. Runner Funeral Chapel at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Betty Jo Carr
Betty Jo Ketterman Carr, 80, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life Thursday evening, Feb. 19, 2004, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She had been in declining health for the past year.
She was born Monday, June 4, 1923, at Horton, the daughter of the late Charles A. Ketterman and Annie O. White Ketterman.
On Jan. 24, 1939, she was married to the Rev. Floyd A. Carr, who survives. They celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Also surviving are two sons, Floyd Lowell Carr and wife, Virginia, of Hendricks and Alfred L. Carr and wife, Janet, of Montrose; one daughter, Sue Ann Pittman and husband, Frank, of Parsons; one brother, Pete Ketterman and one sister, Bernice Hymes, both of Parsons; seven grandchildren, Kathy Jo Hoffner, Rebecca Booth, Vikki Mowery, John Pittman, Tara Pittman, Timothy Paul Carr and Floyd Mahlon Carr; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Buck Ketterman; and two sisters, Hallie Sturms and Edith McCrum.
She attended the school at Hendricks. She was a licensed practical nurse for the former Tucker County Hospital at Parsons for 25 years and an employee of the former Parsons Footwear.
She was saved in 1944 at the Pentecostal Church of God in Hendricks of which she was a member. Along with her husband, their ministry was on Christian Channel 6 Pentecostal Time. In 1988 when Floyd became a pastor, she became director of the PLA ladies’ group. She devoted her life to the church and was a beautiful guitar player, singer, song leader and taught Sunday School. She was the backbone and the mother of the church.

Gwendolyn E. Carr
Gwendolyn Ellouise Ferguson Carr, 74, a resident of Montrose, departed this life Monday evening, Dec. 27, 2004, at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown following a three-year courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Wednesday, April 18, 1930, at Pittsburgh, Pa., a daughter of the late Elwood and Viola Good Ferguson.
She was twice married, formerly to Charles Edwards. On July 27, 1961 at Oakland, Md., she was united in marriage to Alton “Remus” Carr”, who passed away Sept. 8, 2002. They had celebrated 41 years of marriage.
Surviving are one daughter, Cynthia Humphrey and husband, Bill, of Parsons; one brother, Ellwood “Ferg” Ferguson of Gilman; one sister, Romaine Auvil and husband, Jim, of Canton, Ohio; two grandchildren, Michele Humphrey of Franklin, N.C., and Dwayne Humphrey and wife, Lisa, of Warsaw, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Jackson Humphrey of Warsaw, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were one brother, Fred Ferguson, and one sister, Rose Ferguson.
She attended the schools of Randolph County and Pittsburgh, Pa. She had worked several jobs in her lifetime. She was a homemaker and attended the first United Methodist Church of Parsons, where she worked in the food pantry every Wednesday until her health no longer allowed her to do so. She also attended the First United Methodist Church of Moore, where she was treasurer for the church. Church and family were most important in her life. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, caring for her home, yard and gardening. She enjoyed all her friends and to all who knew her, she was a person who had a gift of making you laugh, a true joy. She will be sadly missed by many.

Maxine Carr
Maxine Arbogast Carr, 82, formerly of Thomas, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the residence of her daughter, Judy, and son-in-law, James Rembold, in Upper Marlboro, Md., where she lived for 11 years.
She was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Red Creek, the daughter of the late Eberry and Myrtle Mick Arbogast.
Her husband of 46 years, Cecil Carr, preceded her in death in 1988.
She is survived by five daughters, Judy Rembold and husband, James, of Upper Marlboro, Md., Cecelia Stauffer and husband, Frank, of Durham, N.C., Nancy Beeler of Lothian, Md., Linda Peterson and husband, Jerry, of Spring Lake, N.C., and Denise Reed and husband, Tom, of Knoxville, Tenn.; one son, Joe Carr and wife, Dina, of Hartville, Ohio; two sisters, Mabel Gank of Oakland, Md., and Tina Long of Morgantown; one brother, Roy Arbogast of Oakland, Md.; 20 grandchildren, including one grandson serving in Afghanistan with the Special Forces; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Harry and Richard Carr; and two stepdaughters, Doris Blanchard and Carol Shoemaker.
Mrs. Carr was a homemaker and formerly worked for Miners & Merchants Bank of Thomas.
She loved to play bingo, watch baseball and play cards with her grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in the Hinkle Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Rose Carr
Rose Carr, 97, of Route 9, Box 154, Buckhannon, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at her home.
Rose was born June 4, 1907, along with her identical twin, Ruth, to Charles Wilber Carr and Teresa Hibbs Carr. Rose and Ruth were born at home weighing at 2 3/4 pounds and 2 1/2 pounds. Their miracle at birth was surpassed by their miracle of life at 97 and 96 years young, respectively.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Ruth Warner; and her brother, Madison Carr.
She is survived by her brother, Alva C. Carr of Wintersville, Ohio, and his daughter, Barbra Carr of Chicago, Ill. His son, Charles M. Carr, is deceased.
Rose’s immediate family of Buckhannon includes Charles M. Carr, a deceased nephew but more like a son, and his wife, Doris Jean Carr; their children, Sheree Carr and son, Ian, Renee Carr and daughter, Whitney Higginbotham, and Penny Parcell and husband, Brian, and daughter, Cara.
Other surviving family members in the community include Iris Leyland, Rose’s nurse and cousin; Bob Carr, nephew, and his family; and Diane Warner, niece and family.
Extended family includes nieces and nephews, Wanda Swisher of Maryland, Orval Warner of Maryland, Carroll Warner, deceased, of Buckhannon, Rosemary Moss of Pennsylvania and Bob Carr of Buckhannon and their families.
Rose was the oldest living member at Sand Run Baptist Church of 87 years, begun in June 17, 1917, by the Rev. Henry Martin.
She dedicated years of work to the Farm Women’s Club and was employed as a school teacher in Upshur and Logan counties. Rose contributed greatly to the family’s dairy farm and orchards.
Her lifelong commitment has sustained herself and family for generations.
The Rev. Robert Poling will officiate the services to be held at Sand Run Baptist Church. Viewing will be held at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rose Marie Carr, 77, formerly of Thomas, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Dennett Road Manor Inc. in Oakland, Md.
She was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Thomas, the daughter of the late Delbert Howell Carr and Louiessa Carr.
She is survived by one brother, Shirley W. Carr of Virginia Beach, Va.; one niece, Melanie Harman of Berkeley Springs; and a good friend, Joan Snyder of Washington, D.C.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Seibel and Lorraine Carr.
Ms. Carr was employed by Geico Insurance as an office employee.
She was a Protestant by choice.

George Carroll, 53, of Adrian, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at his home.
He was born Sept. 26, 1951, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Pearl Riley Carroll and Martha Riffle Carroll Shreves.
Surviving are one brother, Virgil Carroll and wife, Helen, of Indianapolis, Ind.; and five sisters, Marion Roth and husband, Bob, of Columbus, Ohio, Rosa Lee Harris of Laurenceville, Ga., Delores Koch and husband, Bill, of McHenry, Ill., Wanda Georgeon and husband, Vern, of Kenasha, Wis, and Remona Dowell of Livingston, Wis.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
He had worked at Sunset Memorial Cemetery at Mt. Clair and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Calvin W. Carpenter
Calvin Wayne Carpenter, 66, of Walnut Street, Hickory Heights, Belington, died Wednesday, evening, March 10, 2004, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born April 22, 1937, at Adrian, Upshur County, the son of Willard Loman and Mavis H. Snyder Carpenter, who survive at Philippi.
On Oct. 2, 1993, he married the former Patricia Ann Hill, who survives at Walnut Street, Belington.
Also surviving are one stepson, James Baird of Beverly; one sister, Norma Poling of Philippi; one brother, Larry Carpenter of Belington; and one stepgranddaughter, Heather Baird.
Mr. Carpenter was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Corhart Refractories in Buckhannon. He attended the Faith Way Baptist Church.
Mr. Carpenter was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Friends may call at the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, when Mr. Carpenter will be moved to Faith Way Baptist Church, where friends may call from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. Lena “Nina” Casella, 92, a resident of 64 S. Kanawha St. in Buckhannon, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born Oct. 8, 1912, at Waltham, Mass., a daughter of the late Joseph Ferro and Angelina Luca Ferro.
On Oct. 11, 1931, she was united in marriage to Anthony “Tony” Casella, who proceeded her in death on Aug. 17, 1993.
Surviving are one son, Peter J. Casella and wife, Twila, of Buckhannon; two daughters Mary Stump and husband, Gene, of Buckhannon and Paula Burnett and husband, Tom, of Indiana, Pa.; two sisters, Rose Kabilian of Weymouth, Mass. and Grayce Corcoran of Waltham, Mass.; one granddaughter, Deborah Stump of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; eight grandsons, Anthony Stump of Marietta, Ohio, Tim Stump, Ted Stump, Tony David Casella and Christopher Casella, all of Buckhannon, and Tom Stump, William Burnett and Matthew Burnett, all of Pittsburgh, Pa.; eight great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker, a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a member of Buckhannon Woman’s Club and a member of Altar Rosary Society.

John F. Casseday
John F. Casseday, 78, of Lancaster, Ohio, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home No. 2.
He was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Burnsville to the late John F. and Beatrice Hefner Casseday.
John was a retired plant manager for Anchor Hocking Glass Corp. with 18 years of service.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He loved to play golf and play the piano. He loved comedy and humor.
He is survived by his daughter, Judith Casseday of Durham, N.C.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Joyce Casseday of Arcadia, Calif., Matt and Ana Casseday of Quepos, Costa Rica, Scott Casseday of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Paul and Helen Casseday of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Shawn, Catlyn, Alejandra, Ryan and Emily Casseday; one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Eugene Wood of Gunnison, Colo.; a special friend, Charlotte Sheets of Baltimore, Md.; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Barnes Casseday; and his parents.

David B. Casto
David Bradley Casto, 30, a resident of Buckhannon, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Junior in Barbour County.
He was born June 18, 1974, in Buckhannon, a son of Frederick David Casto and Pamela Phillips Casto of Buckhannon.
Also surviving are two sons, Kristopher Lanham and Austin Lanham, both of Buckhannon; one daughter, Abby Casto of Weston; four sisters, Kay Beane of Jane Lew, Misty Gooden of Tallmansville, Jamie Alterman of French Creek and Amber Butler of Buckhannon; six brothers, John Brady of Stafford, Va., Chad Casto, Kevin Casto, Jason Bennett, Shane Courtney and Buddy Knight, all of Buckhannon; five nieces; and six nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother and his maternal grandparents, Harry and Freda Phillips.
He was a general laborer.

Ruth Evelyn Casto
Ruth Evelyn Casto, 92, of Route 6, Box 172, Buckhannon, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, in Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
She was born July 25, 1912, in Horner, the daughter of the late Ray W. McWhorter and Iva Farnsworth McWhorter.
On May 13, 1939, she was married to Robert L. Casto, who preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1976.
Surviving are three sons, Robert L. Casto and wife, Lorina, of Norwich, Ohio, Charles W. Casto and wife, Sylvia, of Lorentz and Steven M. Casto of Lorentz; one stepgranddaughter, Melissa Stone; two stepgreat-granddaughters, Shana Stone and Angie Stone; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Louise McWhorter Cressey; and one brother, Howard R. McWhorter.
She graduated from Weston High School in 1931. She worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph’s Hospital and retired from Moore Business Forms. She was a member of the Lorentz Extension Homemakers Club for more than 50 years.

Orlando Cesaro, 81, a resident of Liggett Addition, Buckhannon, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
He was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Upshur County, the son of the late Fragomeni and Lillie Claypole Cesaro.
He was twice married. His first wife, Ethel Newton Cesaro, preceded him in death. He is survived by his second wife, Mary Davis Cesaro of the Liggett Addition.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Homer “Buster” Cesaro of Meadows of Dan, Va., Jim Cesaro of Troy, N.C., and Randall Cesaro of Dade City, Fla.; three daughters, Mary Myers of Replete, Lillie Allen of East Canton, Ohio, and Trecie Faye Eskew of Buckhannon; five stepchildren; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Arnold Cesaro of Wintersville, Ohio; and two sisters, Garnett Lee of Morgantown and Vernie Lantz of Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by one son, Harold “Snooks” Cesaro; and one brother.
He was a coal miner.

Ruth Violet Champ, 83, of P.O. Box 65, U.S. Route 28 North, Seneca Rocks, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 14, 1921, at Mouth of Seneca, the daughter of the late Scott Day Miller Sr. and Martha Wolford Miller.
On Nov. 25, 1941, she married John Robert Champ, who died Dec. 12, 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Aretha June Kees of Fairmont and Darlene Kay Tustin of Lusby, Md.; three sons, Randall Blake Champ of Arthur, and Daniel Lee Champ and Myron Lyle Champ, both of Seneca Rocks; four sisters, Bonnie Turner of Franklin, Betty Jowers of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Chloe Turner of Maysville and Shirley Tanko of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, H. Hoover Miller of Seneca Rocks; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three half brothers, Denton Miller, Mason Miller and Glenn Miller; and four half sisters, Pearl Miller, Nellie Berg, Bessie Sites and Nola Dieter.
She was a homemaker. She attended Petersburg Baptist Church and was superintendent of Pleasant View United Methodist Church.

Iris E. Chandler, 89, of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Buckhannon, died Thursday, April 22, 2004, in Woodstock, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Chandler.
Surviving are three daughters, Dorothy Gear of Eubanks, N.Y., Maxine Deal of Port Orange, Fla., and Geneva Bennett of Edgewater, Fla.; two sons, Roger Chandler of Edgewater, Fla., and Larry Chandler of Woodstock, Ga.; 27 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Imogene Chandler and Shirley Biesel; and two sons, James Chandler and Harold Chandler.
She was a lifelong member of Living Water Church, a life member of Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars 3282, and a life member of Disabled American Veterans 36 of French Creek.
She was a courageous woman and a shining example of faith and love for the Lord.

Earl Lee Channels, 60, a resident of Kerens, passed away at 9 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 12, 1943, at Baltimore, Md., a son of the late Walter Nelson Channels and Eva Louise Wilmoth Channels.
On April 9, 1968, in Elkins, he was married to the former Betty Jo Weese, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Thomas McGriff Channels of Torrington, Conn., Kenneth Paul Channels and Joseph Lee Channels, both of Elkins; one daughter, Crystal Dawn Calain of Newport News, Va.; five brothers, Cecil Channels of Henderson, Md., Floyd Channels of Kerens, and Ralph, Lawrence and Ray Channels, all of Elkins; one sister, Clara Schoonover of Elkins; eight grandchildren, Earl Channels Jr., Steven Channels, Pamela Channels, William Channels, Christian and Alexis Calain, Jordan Price and Joshua Channels.
Preceding him in death was one brother, Robert “Bob” Channels, and two sisters, Betty Evans and Bertha Channels.
Earl was a Vietnam Veteran, having served in the United States Army. He was employed by the former Memorial General Hospital and retired as maintenance foreman from Davis Memorial Hospital with 22 years of combined service. He was a member of the FOE Lodge 2344 of Elkins. He was an avid outdoorsman, champion fisherman, and with his wife, Betty, headed Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs for the past seven years.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. She was born Sept. 30, 1908, at High Germany, a daughter of the late George Hayes Brain and Eliza Celia Currence Brain.
On Nov. 6, 1926, at High Germany, she was married to William Glen Channell, who preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1954.
She is survived by four daughters, Ethel Arbogast and husband, Jimmy, of Mill Creek, Glenna Rader and husband, Glen, of Austintown, Ohio, Doris Herron and husband, Richard, and Terry Weese and husband, Junior, all of Mill Creek; two daughters-in-law, Sharon Channell of Newton Falls, Ohio, and Lavonda Channell of Garrettsville, Ohio; one sister, Dessie Queens of Ellamore; 26 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by; five sons, Arnold, Blaine, Thurman, Floyd and Elmer Channell; and three sisters, Annie Riegel, Idress Herron and Bessie Brain.
She was a homemaker and a 30-year member of the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church.

Elthadora Pence Chenoweth, 94, a resident of Beverly, departed this life on Thursday evening, Dec. 23, 2004, at the Broaddus Hospital in Philippi. She had been in declining health.
She was born Saturday, Dec. 10, 1910, at Beverly, one of nine children born to Edward Rosier Pence and Jane Harris Pence.
She was married to John Barlett Chenoweth, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary Pence Crouch of Beverly and Margaret Wirth of Brooksville, Fla.; and one brother, John Pence of Akron, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elisabeth Leighton and Florence Dayton; two brothers, Charles Pence and Leonard Pence; and one brother who died at birth.
She was a graduate of Beverly High School and Davis & Elkins College. She became a teacher and taught in various schools in Randolph County, the last being Elkins where she retired after 41 1/2 years of teaching. She was a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Elkins Memorial Gardens, the formerly the IOOF Cemetery, at Elkins. The Rev. Jeff Falter will officiate and interment will follow. Frank E. Channell
Frank E. Channell, 88, a lifelong resident of Valley Head, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 at 3:05 p.m. in the Davis Memorial Hospital where he had been admitted on Wednesday. He had been in failing health; however, his death was unexpected.
Born March 29, 1916 at Valley Head, he was the son of the late Branch and Laura Arbogast Channell.
On Oct. 10, 1936, he was united in marriage to the former Ruth I. Arbogast who survives at Valley Head.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter- in-law, Donnie Channell and wife, Retha of The Plains, Va., and a brother, Troy Channell of Daytona Beach, Fla.
Also surviving are two granddaughters, Jeanne Proctor and husband, Ken, Donna Nicolson and husband, Dan; six great-grandchildren, Arthur, Karen, Daniel, Adam, Elizabeth, Andrew; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were two sisters, Ina Brown, Geneva Doyle; and four brothers, Virgil, Kenneth, Floyd and Fred Channell.
Mr. Channell was a coal miner for many years, having worked at several coal mines including Hickory Lick. He retired from Badger Coal Co. in the late 1970s.
He also loved woodworking and taking care of birds, making sure they where fed everyday. Frank was loved by his family and friends and will forever be in their hearts.
Mr. Channell was a member of the Valley Head United Methodist Church, where he formerly held the position of building fund director.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel today from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The Rev. Robert Baer, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Valley Head Cemetery at Valley Head.

Jack M. Channell
Jack M. Channell, 51, of Chaumont, N.Y., died Monday, April 12, 2004, at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, N.Y., from complications of pneumonia.
Born Oct. 3, 1952, in Elkins, he was the son of Troy and Lora Starcher Channell.
On July 30, 1977, in Grantsville, Md., he married Corine E. Dexter.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Katrina J. and Simon K. Clement of Chaumont, N.Y.; five sons, Benjamin J., Joseph D., Jonathan A., Justin J. and Jordan L., all of Chaumont, N.Y.; one brother and wife, David L. and Judy Channell of Valley Head; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He graduated from Tygarts Valley High School.
A memorial celebration of Jack’s life will be at 1 p.m Saturday at the family home at 30722 Old Town Springs Road in Chaumont officiated by Dr. D. James Lewis, pastor of First Baptist Church of the 1,000 Islands. A memorial celebration will also be held in July in Valley Head. Cummings Funeral Service in Clayton, N.Y. is in charge of arrangements. Rosa G. Channell, 74, of Jacksonburg, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 29, 1929, at Monongah, a daughter of the late Frank and Leta Wood Corrigan. She was a former employee of Tyler County Senior Citizens, and she was a member of the Indian Creek Southern Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Timothy J. Channell of Jacksonburg; a daughter, Linda Simons of Stephen City, Va.; two brothers, Jerry Corrigan of Bens Run and Charles Corrigan of Lumberport; three sisters, Nilah Schepleng of Pasadena, Md., Dorothy Blankenship of Selinsgrove, Pa., and Kathy Taylor of Sistersville; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Olan V. Channell in 2003; one son, Olan Dewayne Channell in 1988; a brother, Leo Corrigan; and a sister, Mary Snow.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Indian Creek Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Victory Cemetery in Alma.

“Bonnie” Chiasson
Bonita Belle “Bonnie” Lutz Chiasson, 56, a resident of Seneca Rocks, departed this life Sunday morning, Aug. 29, 2004, at her home at Onego due to end-stage multiple sclerosis. She had been in declining health for several years.
She was born Wednesday, June 16, 1948, at Elkins, the daughter of the late Robert Lewis Lutz and Marie Dodd Lutz.
On July 3, 1983, at Elkins, she was married to Robert “Bob” Chiasson, who survives at Onego. Also surviving are one brother, Timothy “Tim” Lutz of Hurricane.
Bonnie lived in Elkins until she graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1966. She worked her way through college at the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 1972.
Bonnie took a position as advertising manager with the National Association of Home Builders. She worked on the Association’s publication, NAHB Journal/Scope and worked on the transformation of that publication, which was re-launched as Builder Magazine in May 1978. She served as advertising manager for Builder Magazine for several years.
She was a former member of the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at Elkins and in 1983 she became a member of Saint Brendan Catholic Church at Elkins.
Bonnie was diagnosed with exacerbating-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS) in 1983. The MS took a severe turn for the worse in 1987, after which Bonnie suffered a continuing slow decline. After a few years her MS diagnosis was updated to chronic-progressive.
In 2002, Bob retired from the federal government and the couple moved from Northern Virginia to a new house which they built on property they had long owned about four miles west of Seneca Rocks. Bob and Bonnie greatly enjoyed the beautiful views, closeness to nature and wonderful neighbors that surround their mountain home.
At the request of the family, there will be no visitation. Final rites will be conducted at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Fr. William Anderson will be the presider and interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins. Helen Chidester, 80, of Route 2, Buckhannon, the Ivy community, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at her home.
She was born March 14, 1924, in Newlon, the daughter of the late Guy Foster and Frances Cutright Duke.
Her first husband, Everett Tenney, preceded her in death. She is survived by her second husband, James Chidester of Ivy.
Also surviving are one sister, Hester Newcome of Indian Camp.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale Duke and Curtis Duke; and one sister, Credia Tenney.
She retired from Reidbord Manufacturing in Buckhannon with more than 30 years of service as a seamstress.
She was a member of Indian Camp United Methodist Church.

Patty Ann Peck Chidester, 67, of 46 Sandy Ave., Buckhannon, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born Feb. 21, 1937, in Goshen, the daughter of the late Tillman Peck and Dolly Sines Peck.
On Oct. 16, 1953, she was married to Raymond Chidester, who preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1982.
Surviving are two sons, Steven Chidester and wife, Bobbie, of Canaan and Stanley Chidester and wife, Carol, of Buckhannon; six daughters, Carol Workman and husband, Bob, of Buckhannon, Brenda Cutright and fiance, Terry, of Buckhannon, Sheila Chidester and fiance, Matt, of Charleston, Kimberley Perrine and husband, David, of Gaines, Rebecca Chidester of Buckhannon and April Chidester of Buckhannon; two brothers, Roscoe Peck of Rock Cave and Willis Peck of Buckhannon; three sisters, Lois McComas of Kansas, Christina Adams of Columbus, Ohio, and Helen Peck of Gaines; a special friend, Theresa Knipe of Excelsior; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Chidester; and one brother, Ralph Peck.
She was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.

She was born Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1920, at Bemis, a daughter of the late James Henry Boggs and Mary Frances Hedrick Boggs.
During 1946 at Elkins, she was married to Gene Chilgren, who preceded her in death Oct. 10, 1952.
Surviving are two daughters, Debbie VanBrunt, Elkins, and Doris Chenoweth and husband, Roland, Elkins; four grandchildren, Jennifer VanBrunt, Samuel, Mark and Daniel Chenoweth; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband are one brother, James Boggs; two sisters, Mamie Chilgren and Lannie Boggs; and one half sister, Delphia Bazzle.
She attended the schools of Randolph County, was a cook, having worked at Davis & Elkins College, retiring in 1982 and was a Presbyterian by faith.

Vincent F. “Jim” Civiello, 84, a resident of Apple Creek Estates and a patient in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center for the past year, passed away at 11:28 a.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004, in Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born July 17, 1919, at Altoona, Pa., the son of the late Vincent F. and Antonia Summa Civiello.
On April 4, 1957, in Elkins he was married to Betty Raikes Civiello, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are two sons, Merwyn V. Civiello and Frank A. Civiello, both of Elkins; four daughters, Judith Collins of West Hills, Calif., Janet Civiello and Scott Louderback of Elkins, Sherri Lewis and Steven of Beverly and Julie Bosserman and “Dudley” of Mabie.
One sister, Minnie Villella of Detroit, Mich., four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding him in death were one son, Vincent Civiello; three sisters, Maggie Falcone, Louise Albarano and Jeannette Ciccarelli; and five brothers, Joseph, Daniel, David, Anthony and Patsy Civiello.
Mr. Civiello was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army. He was employed for many years as a maintenance supervisor for Reidbord Brothers.
He was a member of BPOE Lodge No. 1135, a life member of the American Legion Schenley Post 663, and a member of Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the 40 & Eight and the PER. He was an avid bowler and bingo player.
Mr. Civiello was a Catholic by faith.

Ada Clancy, 95, a resident of Lake Helen, Fla., passed away Sunday morning, Oc.t 24, 2004, at her home.
She was born July 2, 1909, at Dryfork, a daughter of the late William P. Cooper and Peachie Adamson Cooper.
She was married to Jack Clancy, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Margaret Brennan, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; and 16 nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Fred, Eston, Byron and John Cooper; and two sisters, Annabelle Defibaugh and Lois Stanowski.
Mrs. Clancy was a resident of Florida since 1956 and was a Methodist by faith.

Curtis Clark
Curtis Leon Clark, 83, a former resident of Mill Creek and a patient in Nella’s Inc., passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 5, 1920, at Elkhorn, Ky., a son of the late Bear Childers and Mary Reese.
In 1962, he was married to Freda Ruth Currence, who is a patient in Nella’s Inc.
He retired from General Motors Corp., and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion.
Friends may call at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Thomas A. Clawson
Thomas A. Clawson, 83, of Buckhannon and formerly of New Florence, Pa., died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at St. Josephís Hospital in Buckhannon.
Clawson is survived by his wife, Grace E. Large Clawson; son, Tom and wife, Susan, of Greensboro, N.C.; daughter, Connie Bavington and husband, Tony, of Jacksonville Fla.; and three grandchildren, Sara Clawson of Greensboro, N.C., Paul Bavington and wife, Julie, of Deland, Fla., and Phillip Bavington of Jacksonville, Fla.
Clawson was a son of the late Frank R. and Lettie Liggett Clawson. Also proceeding him in death was one brother, Frank W. Clawson.
Mr. Clawson was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Huff, Pa.
He came to Buckhannon in August 1939 and graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1943. While still a student in 1942, he began a lumber brokerage business that grew into a wholesale, retail, manufacturing and construction operation.
In 1980, Mr. Clawson retired from the lumber business, but continued as director and appraiser for the Central National Bank. He also served on the board of directors of Key Centurion Bank, Bank One and First Central Bank of Buckhannon and Phillipi.
Mr. Clawson was very active in community affairs, including the Buckhannon Chamber of Commerce, Federal Housing Board, Buckhannon Lions Club and Franklin Lodge No. 7 AF & AM, as well as serving as director of Buckhannonís Strawberry Festival in 1952. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the board of trustees for 35 years.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church.

Alta C. Clevenger
Alta Christine Clevenger, 47, of 58 Fifth St., Buckhannon, died Monday, April 26, 2004, at her home.
She was born Oct. 4, 1956, in Silver Springs, Md., the daughter of the late Henry S. Landis and Janet M. Jones Landis.
On June 8, 1974, she was married to Michael Ray Clevenger, who survives.
Surviving are two daughters, Samantha Christine Escobar and Sabrina Marleen Clevenger, both of Silver Springs, Md.; two sons, Michael Darren Clevenger of Buckhannon and Timothy Ray Clevenger of Silver Springs, Md.; five sisters, Janet M. Mancuso of Rockville, Md., Emily K. Fletcher of Maryland, Tracy C. Landis of Rockville, Md., Tina M. McLenan of North Carolina and Stephany C. Landis of Gaithersburg, Md.; one brother, James S. Landis of Silver Springs, Md.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Lewko.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Buckhannon Woman’s Club and the Modern Home Ecs.

David G. Cline
David G. Cline, 67, a resident of Route 1, Philippi, passed away at 2:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, in the University of Pittsburgh Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was born July 11, 1937, at Beckley in Raleigh County, the son of the late George Marvin and Maggie Gilkerson Cline.
He was united in marriage on June 14, 1978, to the former Nedra Jane Burner, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Nancy C. Bennett of Shady Springs and Amy Carol Cline of North Carolina; one stepdaughter, Billie Jane Beohm of Clemtown; one stepson, Harold Pyles and wife, Rhonda, of Route 1, Philippi, Union community; one brother, Marvin Cline of Bradley; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Cline.
Mr. Cline retired in 1970 from the U.S. Marine Corps. Following retirement, he worked at various other jobs.
He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Cuba; the National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal, third and fourth award; the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device 60; Vietnam Service Medal with three stars; and the RVN Meritorious Unit Citation Cross of Gallantry No. 32.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 7 p.m. today. Jack Milton Close Sr., 65, of Parsons, passed away Sept. 12, 2004, at his home.
He was born Sept. 8, 1939, in St. George, the son of the late “John” Carlton Adam and Nellie B. Roy Close.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Pearl Lycliter Close; six sons, James G. and Kim Close of Elkins, Jackie M. Jr. and Susan Close of York, Pa., Quentin O. Close of Lithicum, Md., Timothy A. and Terri Close of Westminster, Md., Rick R. Close of Montrose and David L. Close of Parsons; two daughters, Teresa Ann and Robert G. Walts of Waco, Texas, and Victoria Sue and William Shaw of Parsons; two brothers, Jacob Close of Wilmington, N.C., and Alex Close of Oddington, Md.; one sister, Yvonne Haller of Belington; and 17 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Merv, Don and David; and two sisters, Linda Thrift and Mary Horton.
Mr. Close was an operating engineer in Local Union 132, was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Farm Bureau.

Eva E. Cochran, 94, of Route 1, French Creek, the Etna Community, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at her home.
She was born June 10, 1910, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Charles and Sarah Simmons Carpenter.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Thurman L. Cochran.
In addition to her husband, she is also survived by one son, Gerald O. Carpenter and wife, Velta, French Creek; one grandson, Steven G. Carpenter and wife, Marilyn, French Creek: one stepgrandson, Kenny Ervin and wife, Darla, Morgantown; two great-grandsons, Travis and Dustin Carpenter, both of French Creek; one stepgreat-grandson, Wesley Ervin, Morgantown; one sister, Vesta Johnson and husband, Virgil, Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Oliver, John, Arthur, Delbert, Merrill, Orace and Pearly Carpenter; and four sisters, Anna Hinkle, Rhoda Bailey, Mae Hinkle and Delia Bennett.
She attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Holly Grove.

Dorotha M. Coffman
Dorotha Mae Nutter Coffman, 90, a resident of Mansfield Place, Broaddus Hospital Long-Term Care, Philippi, died Monday morning, March 15, 2004, at Mansfield Place following an extended illness.
She was born May 7, 1913, on Stewart’s Run, Barbour County, the daughter of the late Otto Amos and Laura May Nutter Nutter.
On Aug. 29, 1943, she was married to McKinley A. “Major” Coffman, who preceded her in death on April 19, 1974.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by one sister, Georgia Mahan Green; and by one brother, Enoch Virgil Nutter.
Surviving are two nieces, Judith Elizabeth May of Sarasota, Fla., and Anita May Knotts and husband, Charles, of Philippi; one nephew, Delaine Green and wife, Doris Lou, of Philippi; one sister-in-law, Dorothy R. Nutter of Philippi; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mrs. Coffman was a homemaker and a former clerk for the G.C. Murphy Co. in Philippi.
She was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church, AARP and the Philippi center of the Barbour County Senior Citizens.

Janeva Lou Louk Cogar, 57, departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at the home of her sister in West Augusta, Va., after a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
She was born Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1946, at Englishtown, N.J., a daughter of the late Forrest Willard Louk and Roxie Leighann Pudder Louk, who survives at Mill Creek.
On May 8, 1964, she was married to Roger Lee Cogar, who preceded her in death in 1982.
Surviving are two sons, Tony Cogar and wife, Sue, of Princess Anne, Md., and Tod Cogar and wife, Michelle, of New Egypt, N.J.; two daughters, Cynthia Bozman of Georgetown, Del., and Nancy Coger of Princess Anne, Md.; five brothers, Jerry Louk and wife, Debbie, and Jeffrey L. Louk, all of Mill Creek, Joseph Larry Louk and wife, Carol, of West Augusta, Va., Jerl L. Louk and wife, Karen, of Marion, Va., and John Louk of Churchville, Va.; seven sisters, Janet White of Churchville, Va., Juanita Taylor, Janice Springfield and husband, Edward, Judy Tolliver, and Josephine Snyder and husband, Robert, all of Mill Creek, Jennev Butler of Prineville, N.J., and Jacqueline Gear and husband, Ronald, of West Augusta, Va.; and six grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her husband and father was one son, Roger Lee Cogar Jr.
She attended the schools of Englishtown, N.J., and had been employed at several factories and greenhouses.

Norma J. Colaw, 78, of Cherry Grove, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.
She was born April 30, 1925, at Circleville, the daughter of the late Robert Boyd Johnston and Kate Arbogast Johnston.
She was a 1944 graduate of Circleville High School, worked for Harry Wolfe, now Allegany Wood, for the West Virginia Department of Highways in the Franklin office, for the U.S. Postal Service in Washington, D.C., and had co-owned and operated the C&H Cash Store at Cherry Grove.
She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and Circleville Presbyterian Church.
On June 3, 1960, she married Wayne E. Colaw, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Kirby of Fayetteville, N.C., and Mark Colaw of Petersburg; two daughters, Sara Harper of Franklin and Laura Menas of Keedysville, Md.; two stepdaughters, Margaret Stinard of Canton, Ohio, and Beverly Kile of Upper Tract; one stepson, Larry Colaw of Cherry Grove; one sister, June Hinkle of North Huntingdon, Pa.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Dennis Blair Collett, 68, of Essex, Md., died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at Stella Maris Hospice Center.
He was born April 28, 1935, in West Virginia, the son of the late Blair Collett and the late Ruth Fawley Collett.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Mary Holshouser Collett; three sons, Dennis Collett Jr., Wayne Collett and Bryan Collett; one daughter, Lori Lutz; one sister, Delores Varner; and three grandchildren, Ryan Collett, Austin Collett and Cara Collett.
Mr. Collett was employed as a supervisor by Bethlehem Steel. He loved gardening and music, and was good at fixing anything.

Paul Collett
Paul Collett, 89, a resident of the Glenmore community near Elkins, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 15, 1914, the son of the late Douglas Bee Collett and Luvada Kesling Collett.
On Oct. 8, 1938, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Helen Mae Lockridge, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth Lee Collett of Indiatlantic, Fla., and Gerald Allan Collett of Bridgeport; and one daughter, Pauline Jewell Newlon of Elkins.
Also surviving are two brothers, Dennis and Dayley Collett, both of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Virginia Russin of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were three sisters, Margie Cooper, Lillie Nazelrod and Katherine Simmons.
Mr. Collett worked as a coal miner and in construction as a heavy-equipment operator prior to his retirement.
He owned and operated the Cross Roads Service Station for 12 years. He helped organize the Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department and was the first person to serve as its fire chief, a position he held for eight years. He also assisted in the organization of the Randolph County Emergency Squad and volunteered as an ambulance driver.
He loved bluegrass music and played guitar and fiddle.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel with Evangelist J.D. Conley officiating. Boggs Collins
Boggs George “Ole Boggs” Collins, 88, a lifelong resident of Huttonsville, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at his residence. He had been in failing health, however, death was sudden and unexpected.
Born Sept. 21, 1911, in Huttonsville, he was the son of the late Forrest and Maude Boggs Collins.
In January 1949, he was united in marriage to the former Mary Emily White, who preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 2004.
Boggs is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila McCauley and husband, Larry, of Huttonsville; one son, Tommy Collins, who made his home with his Dad; and two sisters, Mary Collins Miller and husband, Bob, of Waynesboro, Va., and Adalade Kesterson of Parkerburg, Va.
Also surviving is one granddaughter, Shelby Amber McCauley; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
He will be sadly missed and in our hearts forever.
Boggs was the primary caretaker and gravedigger for the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville from 1960 until 2001.
He was a veteran and served with the U.S. Army’s 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion. He participated in airborne combat missions in North Africa and in Italy at Avelino. He also participated in two amphibious operations at Naples and Anzio beachheads. On Aug. 15, 1944, Boggs also participated in the lead combat team for the airborne jump into southern France.
He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Purple Heart with two clusters, French Citation, Combat Infantryman Badge, and American and European Theatre Ribbons with five Battle Stars. Boggs was also an honoree of the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Boggs was a Methodist by faith.
Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, Patsy Jean Collins; one son, Layne Collins; and two brothers, Carol and Lee Collins.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Chapel after 6 p.m. today. The Rev. Frank Long, pastor of the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church, will officiate at a service at the Runner Chapel at 7 p.m. today. At the request of the deceased, the remains will be cremated after the visitation. A memorial service for the interment of the cremains in the Brick Church Cemetery will be at a later date. The F.E. Mary E. Collins
Mary Emily Collins, 73, a resident of Huttonsville, passed away at 9:16 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at her residence. She had been in failing health, however, her death was sudden and unexpected.
Born Sept. 13, 1930, in Pocahontas County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ella A. Summerfield White.
She was united in marriage to Boggs G. Collins, who survives in Huttonsville.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Sheila McCauley and husband, Larry, of Huttonsville; one son, Tom Collins; and one special granddaughter, Shelby Amber McCauley of Huttonsville.

Mary was a homemaker. She loved to read the Bible. She also loved crocheting and was a Methodist by faith.
There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville. The Rev. Darl Combs, 90, of Route 2, French Creek, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at home.
He was born July 20, 1913, in Akron, Ohio, the son of the late Guy and Ola Brown Combs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Imogene Morris Combs.
He is survived by three daughters, LouAnne Beaton and husband, Eric, of Utica, N.Y., Kathy Burr of French Creek and Barbara Combs of French Creek; and three grandchildren, Bobby Burr of French Creek and Lori and Rachel Beaton, both of Utica, N.Y.
He is also survived by a half brother, Charlie Combs of Maryland; and a half sister, Ida Lou Proudfoot of Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Veda Combs; two half brothers, Tommy and Bob Combs; and one sister, Evelyn Marie Combs.
Mr. Combs was a loving and faithful father. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army.
Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gerald O. Comer
Gerald Orville Comer, 90, a resident of 1520 Lavalette Ave., Elkins, departed this life Sunday evening, Oct. 3, 2004, at the Davis Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to cardiac arrest.
He was born Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1914, at White Sulphur Springs, the son of the late George Comer and Mary Bennett Comer.
He had never married. Surviving are five nieces, Shelya Pennington, Lorna Kaine, Arlene Hannah, Vera Hosey and Carolyn Comer; and four nephews, Jerry Cosner, Tommy, David and Kenny Comer. Preceding him in death besides his parents were two brothers, Carl and Arnold Comer; four sisters, Hazel Cosner, Ada Comer, Ola Ervine and Blanche Cox; and one niece, Norma Clark.
Mr. Comer was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1932 and the Davis & Elkins College School of Business with the class of 1933. He also attended Davis & Elkins College in 1934 and 1935, studying toward a bachelor of arts degree.
He was a veteran of World War II and served from 1942 to 1945 with the U.S. Air Force in the Eighth Air Force Fighter Command in England and Belgium.
He began his career with the Columbia Gas Co. in 1950 as a laborer in Elkins, became a utility man in 1952 and was named street serviceman in 1956. He retired March 1, 1976, after more than 25 years of service.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and also served on the Administrative Board for over 50 years.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. On Wednesday, Mr. Comer will be moved to First United Methodist Church, where final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Ellis E. Conley will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, where the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion will present the American flag. Ray J. Conrad
Ray J. "Mac" Conrad, 79, of Century No. 1, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at his home under the care of Mountain Hospice of Belington.
He was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Ellamore, the son of the late John B. Antionette Naomi Gower Conrad.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Furman Conrad of Century, whom he married Dec. 10, 1947.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Joan Bragg and fiance, Bill Mumaw, of Martinsburg, Elaine Alkire and husband, Robert, of Marlinton, Maxine Haymond of Century; one son, Ray Richard Conrad and wife, Belinda, of Hedgesville; a special buddy, Robert "Bub" Riffle Jr. of Century; six grandchildren, Michael Todd Bragg and wife, Brenda, of Inwood, Michelle Travis and husband, Daniel, of Martinsburg, Robert Ray Alkire II and wife, Teresa, of Marlinton, Corey Alkire of Charleston, Jeffery Stum of Hedgesville, and Shelton Conrad of Hedgesville; and four great-grandchildren, Michelle Brooke Bragg and Christopher Bragg, both of Inwood, and Kyleen Alkire and Chase Alkire, both of Marlinton.
He was preceded by one son-in-law, Lynn Haymond.
He had been retired for 27 years from Bethlehem Mines after 26 years of service.
He was a World War II veteran, served a tour of Europe and earned a Purple Heart for combat wounds. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663.
He enjoyed woodworking and watching baseball games with the Braves as his favorite team. He was a Methodist by faith.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel, where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Ed Lowther will officiate and interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery. A military service will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, the Frank B. Ina Mae Cook, 86, a resident of the Bowden community, departed this life Friday morning, Aug. 13, 2004, at the Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health.
She was born Friday, Sept. 7, 1917, at Upper Tract in Pendleton County, the daughter of the late James Cook and Vernie Tingler Cook.
Surviving is a close companion, Ernest W. Lambert of Bowden; three stepsons, Charles, David and Joseph Lambert, all of Wymer; two stepdaughters, Betty White and Norma Fortney, both of Wymer; seven brothers, Gene Cook of Buckhannon, Roy Cook of Parma, Ohio, Joseph Cook of Fairmont, Paul Cook of Canton, Ohio, George Cook of Beverly, Howard Cook of Piedmont and Jerry Cook of Soldotna, Alaska; and several stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Ernest, Emmett, Jack and James Cook; and two sisters, Hazel Lambert and Edna Fleming.
She attended the schools of Randolph County and had worked for Machine Tools Industries at Cleveland, Ohio, from where she retired in 1981.
She was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center and was a Mennonite.

Michael D. Coontz
Michael D. Coontz, 37, formerly of Hilliard, Ohio, died unexpectedly Friday, July 2, 2004, in his home in Springfield, Ohio. He was born July 1, 1967, in Springfield, the son of Franklin and Sandra Sue Teter Coontz.
Mike had been employed by Decision One in Grove City, Ohio, for nine years until he was disabled in a motorcycle accident two years ago.
He was a member of the United Brethren Church.
He is survived by his parents of Springfield; one daughter, Ashley Coontz and two stepchildren, Michelle and Joseph Gilgian, all of Hilliard, Ohio; two brothers, Thomas Coontz and wife, Connie, of Springfield, Ohio, and Theodore Coontz of Ohio; and his grandmother, Versie Coontz. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Coontz, in 1988. Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home on Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Ralph Q. Coontz
Ralph Q. Coontz, 85, a resident of 100 W. View Drive, Elkins, passed away Friday morning, Nov. 12, 2004, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 23, 1918, in Barbour County, a son of the late Camden and Delta Sharp Coontz.
In 1939, he was married to Ruby V. Findley Coontz, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are a son, Warren L. Coontz and wife, Cindy, of Huntsville, Ala.; a daughter, Sharon Finchman and husband, Keith, with whom the Coontzes made their home. Two brothers, Thomas and Keith Coontz, both of Elkins; two grandchildren, Brian Coontz and wife, Anna, and Lisa Boctor and husband, Alex; and a great-granddaughter, Brianna Coontz, also survives.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Louise Wilson.
Mr. Coontz attended the schools of Barbour County and was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Allegheny Lumber Co. for 28 years and retired as a security guard at the Memorial General Hospital. He was a member of the Valley Bend Baptist Church in Barbour County.

Ralph Q. Coontz, 85, a resident of 100 West View Drive, Elkins, passed away

Deloris Jean Cooper, 70, of Westerville, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at St. Ann’s Hospital.
She was born Sept. 2, 1934, in Bemis, the daughter of the late Amos and Edith Humphreys Wimer.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School and retired from the Westerville School System after many years of dedicated service.
She was a lifetime servant of the Lord and attended the Genoa Baptist Church in Westerville.
She is survived by two sons and spouses, Gary and Pamela Cooper of Bridgeport, and Larry and Debra Cooper of Morgantown; one daughter and spouse, Tami and Robert Knight of Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren and spouses, Tracie and Samuel Westfall of Bridgeport, Chad and Mica Cooper of Pickerington, Ohio, Robyn Cooper and Renee Cooper of Morgantown, Preston, Larry and Mason Knight, all of Westerville, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Aaron and Brice Westfall of Bridgeport; two brothers and spouses, Amos Wimer Jr. and Joan Wimer of Harrisonburg, Va., and Earl and Neva Wimer of Land-O-Lakes, Fla.; one sister and spouse, Ruth and Donald Slayton of Wilmington, Del..; uncles, Max Humphreys and Neil Humphreys of Morgantown; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel Lee Cooper; and three brothers, Bill, Richard and Bobby Wimer.

James Leonard Cooper, 65, a resident of Frederick, Md., passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2004.
He was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Randolph County, the son of the late Leonard Brown and Velma Loras Teter Cooper.
Surviving is one brother, Robert L. Cooper, of Belington; two sisters, Velma J. Scearce of Elkins and Lorena M. Hall of Charles Town; two half brothers, Jack Cooper and Phillip Cooper, both of Harman; six half sisters, Bonnie Nelson of Lanesville, Stella Wyatt of Beverly, Shirley Cooper of Elkins, Donna Carter of Coalton, Diane Cousey of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Wendy Cooper of Broadway, Va.
Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Cooper was an employee of the Montgomery County school system prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks Lodge No. 684 and the Frederick Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Cooper’s remains were cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins with Elmer Cosner officiating. Mary Jane Cooper, 88, a resident of Harman, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 1, 1916, at Elkhorn, the daughter of the late William C. and Anna Belle Ryan Snow.
On Dec. 30, 1937, she was married to Paul Jacob Cooper, who preceded her in death on April 16, 1997.
Surviving are three sons, Paul Edward Cooper of Harman, Michael Perry Cooper of Petersburg and Nathan Smith Cooper of Kingwood; one daughter, Nancy Lou Pennington of Kingwood; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were four half brothers, John, Clarence, Walter and Romey Snow; two sisters, Mabel Davis and Agnes Davis; and two half sisters, Ethel Jarvis and Gertrude Anderson.
Mrs. Cooper was a homemaker and a member of the Harman Church of the Brethren.

Nila Cooper
Nila Sue Lewis Cooper, 56, of Fairfax, Va., departed this life on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, after an extended battle with cancer.
Nila Lewis Cooper was born on Sept. 9, 1947, in Davis, the first daughter of the late Charles and Doris Griffith Lewis.
She had been employed by Merrifield Garden Center in Merrifield, Va., for the last 11 1/2 years in office administration.
Nila was a graduate of Mountaineer High School with the class of 1965.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by her three daughters, Stephanie and Bob Brown of Falls Church, Va., Angela and Greg Elrod of Berryville, Va., and Teresa Cooper and her fiancÈ, Chris Doran, of Round Hill, Va.; and her only grandchild, Tiffany Brown; her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Joe Daffron of Fairfax, Va.
She will be missed greatly by her only nephews, Tim and Tony Daffron, and Tim’s wife, Leah, and their children, Mariah and Mark.
Friends and relatives will be received at the Advent Funeral Home in Falls Church, Va., from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, then at the Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis on Monday from noon until 1 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Davis Cemetery. Paul Cooper Jr.
Paul Cooper Jr. 78, of North Huntingdon, Pa., died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at UPMC Montefiore.
He was born April 16, 1926, in Red Creek, the son of the late Paul Cooper Sr. and Texie Smith Cooper.
He was a heavy equipment operator for Chambers Development and a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Loughry Cooper.
He is survived by five children, Gary Cooper of Cannonsburg, Pa., James Cooper of Greensburg, Pa., Texie Lynne Waddell of Irwin, Pa., Thomas Cooper of North Huntingdon, Pa., and Samuel Cooper of Johnstown, Pa.; seven grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters, Robert Cooper of Monroeville, Pa., Helen Brown of Gloucester, Ruth Bonivich of Waynesboro, Pa., Faye Benden of Falling Waters, John Eye of Red Creek, Joseph Eye of Welcome, Md., Herald Eye of Red Creek and Frank Eye of Harman; and nieces and nephews.

David L. Core
David Lemley Core, 64, of Elkins, died on Dec. 10, 2004.
He was born in Morgantown on May 16, 1940, the youngest son of the late Dr. Earl C. Core and Freda Bess Garrison Core.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Roberta Sue Karickhoff Core, and their feline friends, Grace and Lucy; a sister Ruth C. Miller, of Williamsport, Pa.; brothers and sisters-on-law J. Merle Core and Mary L. Core, of Huntington and Harry M. Core and Jane B. Core, of Painesville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
David was a 1958 graduate of Morgantown High School, and received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at West Virginia University in 1962 and his Juris Doctor from the West Virginia University College of Law in 1970. He served as an infantry officer in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965 with the First Calvary Division in South Korea and at Fort Ritchie, Md. Following graduation from law school, he served as a law clerk to United States District Judge Robert E. Maxwell, Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia in Huntington, and Chief Deputy Clerk of the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia in Elkins. From 1977 to 1979, he and his wife Sue practiced law together in Morgantown. In October 1979, he was appointed United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of West Virginia. He was reappointed to that position in 1987 and 1995. In November 2000 he took a disability retirement.
In accordance with David’s request there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, David requests that any donations in his memory be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Russell P. Corley
Russell Paul Corley, 62, of Deerfield, Ohio, died Monday evening, April 19, 2004, at home.
Born June 5, 1941, in Valley Head, he was the son of Deward R. and Thelma G. Lindsay Corley, and had lived in Deerfield for 33 years.
He served with the U.S. Marine Corps from Sept. 15, 1959, until September 14, 1963.
He retired from General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio, where he had been an assembler for 32 years.
Mr. Corley attended the Palmyra United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Order of Eastern Star 114 Palmy Chapter, Deerfield Charity Masonic Lodge 530 AF & AM, the Ravenna Royal Arch Masons, the Alliance Council 112 and the Alliance Commandery 067.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Judith E. Riggleman Corley; one son, Russell E. Corley and wife, Sarah, of Paris Township, Ohio; one grandson, Nicholas Corley, and one granddaughter, Ashlei Corley, both of Paris Township, Ohio; his mother, Thelma G. Corley of Valley Head; one brother, Lloyed N. Corley and wife, Wilma, of Diamond, Ohio; six sisters, Sharon Corley of Valley Head, Barbara Sovey and husband, John, of Michigan, Helen Campbell of Tennessee, Lynette Branch of Virginia, Susan Sigley and husband, Rick, of Elkins, and Patrice A. Corley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Deward R. Corley.

Bernice M. Cornell
Bernice M. Cornell, 92, of Washington, D.C., passed away Monday, Nov. 8, 2004.
She was born Feb. 17, 1912, to the late William D. and Sarah Mae Davy Whiteman.
She attended the Elkins schools and graduated from Elkins High School. She attended West Virginia Business College in Clarksburg.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Edgar, Hamil, Ralph, Kermit and Don; and one sister, Genevieve.
She is survived by her son, John P. Cornell Jr. of Midlothian, Va.; one sister, Alene Kitzmiller of Elkins; two granddaughters, Allison Cornell of Leesburg, Va. and Kimberly Duvall of Leesville, S.C.; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Ryan Duvall; and seven nieces and five nephews.
She worked for many years as a legal secretary and a medical secretary in Washington, D.C., and Clarksburg.
Funeral services were held Nov. 12 in Chesterfield, Va.  From 24 Nov 2004.

Linda B. Cornett
Linda Booth Cornett, 59, of Buckhannon, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, surrounded by her family.
She was born Sept. 26, 1944, to Betty Goss Booth and the late Ford Booth.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Vanessa Cornett-Murtada; her son-in-law, Salam Murtada; her mother, Betty Goss Booth of EvUnBreth Road; her sister, mary Ann Spears; her nieces, Amy Tilson and Sarah Booth; her sister-in-law, Kay Booth; and many devoted friends and family members.
Her brother, Daniel Booth, and her father, Ford Booth, preceded her in death.
A 1962 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School, Linda earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in drama from West Virginia University in 1966. She taught creative dramatics and oral interpretation in Beckley before returning to Buckhannon in 1977. A reporter for the Record Delta for several years, she is best remembered for her popular weekly column, “Linda Cornett’s Crackerjacks.” She was also a regular contributor to The Inter-Mountain.
After earning a master of science degree in library science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, she served as an extension librarian for the Clarksburg Public Library.
She later moved to Virginia Beach and earned a master of arts degree in transpersonal studies from Atlantic University with an emphasis in mysticism and esoteric philosophies.
Prior to her death, she was the head librarian at Johnson and Wales University in Norfolk, Va.
A prolific writer and songwriter, she wrote several books of short stories and more than 70 songs, which are registered with the Library of Congress.
As a licensed hypnotherapist, she produced a CD recording, “Chemotherapy and the Holy Spirit: Bridging Mind, Matter and Medicine,” which offers encouraging hypnotherapy suggestions for cancer patients. This CD was featured in the March/April 2003 edition of the Venture Inward magazine, and continues to sell numerous copies across the United States.
In 1989, she was a founding member of the Buckhannon spiritual study group for the Association for Research and Enlightenment. She is remembered by her keen wit, literary talent, generous spirit and infectious laugh.
A celebration of her life will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Engle Hall, Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 88 S. Kanawha St. in Buckhannon. Blaine Corrick
Blaine Corrick, 87, of Minersville, Pa., passed away at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004.
He was the son of the late Mason and Helena Sherman Corrick.
He was born Feb. 12, 1917, in Coalton. His family later moved to Elkins where he graduated from Elkins High School and played on the Elkins High football team. He was inducted into the Elkins High Football Hall of Fame.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in Italy.
After returning home, he was a chef at the Sheraton Hotel in Baltimore, Md. He later owned and operated his own trucking business until his retirement.
He loved hunting, fishing and especially family reunions.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eugene and Robert; and one daughter, Patricia Corrick Phares.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; one son, Blaine S. Corrick of Rocky Mount, N.C.; daughters, Rickie White of Elkins, Judy Manning of Westminster, Md.; Susie Myers of Conyers, Ga., and Sharon Thompson of Springville, Utah; one stepson, Joseph Gerchak; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sept. 30 at Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Minersville, Pa. Interment followed in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Branch Township, Pa., with full military honors.  From 5 Oct 2004.

Harold A. "Buck" Cosner, 76, of Cass, passed away Friday, April 9, 2004, at Craven County Regional Hospital in Newburg, N.C.
Mr. Cosner was born Nov. 10, 1927, at Cass, the son of the late Emory and Izetta Sheets Cosner.
He attended the Reeces Baptist Church in Newport, N.C., was a World War II Air Force veteran and worked for the engineering department for Holiday Inn.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Gum Cosner; one son, Harold "Skip" Cosner Jr.; four brothers, Thurmond Cosner, Raymond Cosner, Earl Cosner and Carl Cosner; and his stepfather, Barton Nelson.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Whitenight Cosner of Cass; four daughters, Bonnie Pierce of Newport, N.C., Penny Moreno of Newport, N.C., Polly Houseknecht of Blumsburg, Pa., and Tina Cosner of Newport, N.C.; one sister, Pauline Nelson of California; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Hersel L. Cottrill
Hersel Lee Cottrill, 79, of Charleston, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Pullman, the son of the late Rev. Shirley L. and Mary Aretta Cross Cottrill.
Two brothers also preceded him in death, Donald M. Cottrill and Treavy R. Cottrill.
After graduating from Webster Springs High School in 1943, Hersel joined the U.S. Navy as an aviation cadet. World War II was in progress and the aviation training that he received was to prepare him for active duty in the South Pacific. His technical training took place at the University of Richmond, Colgate University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Upon discharge from the Navy, he enrolled at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. There he met his future wife, Ruth Arline Hathaway.
Pursuing his zest for education, Hersel received a law degree in 1969 from LaSalle University of Chicago., Ill.
His business career included sales positions in Buckhannon, culminating with Curry Chevrolet Co. From there, he became a district manager for Chevrolet Motor Division, General Motors Corp.
After several promotions, in 1976 he became zone organization manager. He retired from General Motors in 1980 in the position of zone distribution manager. During his tenure with GM, he twice won Chevrolet’s award as the “Best of the Best.”
Following retirement, Hersel earned a real estate broker license and an insurance license. With these, he opened the Cottrill Agency, which he ran for five years. During this time he served as a director on the Kanawha Valley Board of Realtors. He successfully completed courses to earn the GRI and certified real estate appraiser designations.
He is a former member of the Masonic Lodge of Buckhannon, was past president of the West Side Kiwanis Club of Charleston, served on the Boy Scout Committee, Buckskin Council, and was a current member of the Emeritus Club at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Hersel was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was a former chairman of the Administrative Board, a member of the Council on Ministries and the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, was head of the Stewardship Drive and was a Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Arline, of Charleston; three sons, Gary L. Cottrill of Charleston, Mark W. and his wife, Kelsey, of Allison Park, Pa., and Alan H. and his wife, Vickey, of Charleston; one sister, Naoma Cottrill Gillispie and her husband, Paul, of Canton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Justin Cottrill of Boston, Mass., Elizabeth Cottrill of Nashville, Tenn., Anne Cottrill of Asheville, N.C., Christopher Cottrill of Charleston, Adam Cottrill of Pittsburgh, Pa., Amy and Anna Cottrill of Allison Park, Pa., David Cottrill of Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and Logan Cottrill of Charleston.
A memorial service to celebrate Hersel’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Bramble officiating. Following a luncheon at the church, a graveside service with military honors and inurnment of his cremains will take place in Hevener Cemetery in Buckhannon at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at a gathering one hour prior to services at the church. Tressie L. Courtney
Tressie Lucille Courtney, 75, of 114 Barbour St., Buckhannon, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhanon.
She was born Sept. 3, 1928, in Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Leonard Grant Demastes and Laura Jane McCartney Demastes.
On Sept. 15, 1946, she was married to John R. Courtney Jr., who survives.
Surviving are two sons, Larry Gail Courtney and wife, Barbara, of Buckhannon, and John Dwayne Courtney and wife, Tina, of Buckhannon; one daughter, Nancy Jane Matteson and husband, Steve, of California; two sisters, Mary Marie Simmons and Lucy Mae Hoover, both of Buckhannon; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Richard Courtney; two sisters, Laura Irene Courtney and Sylvia Jean Fitch; and one brother, Leonard Gail Demastes.
She was a homemaker and was a Christian.

Harry Richard “Dick” Coyner, 65, of Blake Road, South Daytona, Fla., an inspector in charge of the donated food program for the West Virginia Human Resources Department for 34 years before his retirement, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Mr. Coyner was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, and moved to Florida in 2001 from Elkins.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, and a daughter, Annette White of South Daytona, Fla.

Eula F. Craven
Eula Fern Craven, 102, of 140 Camden Ave., Buckhannon, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Paula’s Home Care in Buckhannon.
She was born July 5, 1901, in Tallmansville, the daughter of the late Phillip Sheridan Tenney and Sarah Jane Rowan Tenney.
On March 9, 1920, she was married to Cecil Ralph Craven, who preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1978.
Surviving are one son, Darius Craven of Tallmansville; one daughter, Norma Tomley Avery of Alexandria, Va.; one sister, Hazel Townsend of Fairlawn, Ohio; three granddaughters, Linda Mathias of Elkins, and Diane Shipman and Barbara Kerns, both of Buckhannon; one great-grandson, Isaac Shipman of Buckhannon; two great-granddaughters, Samantha Shipman and Amy Mathias Arthur, both of Buckhannon; and a special friend and caregiver, Paula Musick of Buckhannon.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and nine sisters.
She was the co-owner and operator of Craven’s Store at Tallmansville.

Kathleen Crawford
Kathleen Avis Crawford, 91, of Frenchton, departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at her home.
She was born Feb. 8, 1913, at Rock Cave, a daughter of the late John Edward and Zora Curry Riggleman.
She was twice married, first to Creed Helmick, from this marriage there were four sons, Doy Helmick and wife, Doris, of Claymont, Del., Troy Helmick and wife, Shirley, of Townsend, Mont., Lynn Helmick and wife, Christine, of Buckhannon and David Helmick, who died in infancy. Her second marriage was to “Wease” Crawford. They had one child, Ann Crawford of Cleveland, Ohio.
She is also survived by one sister, Jeraldeen Wilson of Frenchton; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Frenchton United Methodist Church, a 4-H leader and a very avid gardener. She freely shared her numerous flowers and plants, and they will live on throughout the country as a constant reminder of her life.
Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at the Frenchton United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold E. Crickard
Harold Eugene Crickard, 68, of U.S. Route 2, Middlesex, Vt., died Monday, March 15, 2004, in the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, Vt., after a brief illness with cancer.
Born May 23, 1935, in Elkwater, he was the son of John Ray and Alma Channel Crickard.
He graduated from Tygart Valley High School in Mill Creek in 1953.
On May 24, 1957, he married Roberta Mabel Andrews, who predeceased him. On May 14, 1977, he married Wanda Jean Seaver.
He worked as a truck driver throughout the United States for the Weyerhaeuser Company and later worked as a master electrician for many years, most recently for CEA, Inc. of Burlington, Vt., and Pittsford, Vt., for traffic signals.
He was a member of the Rural Lodge No. 29, AF&AM in Rochester, Vt. His interests were auto races, outdoor vegetable gardening, camping at the fairs, spending time with his grandchildren, and family gatherings.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda, of Middlesex, Vt.; four sons, Ray Crickard of Eden, Vt., Ronald Crickard of Stafford, N.H., Donald Crickard and his wife, Jeanie Levitan-Crickard, of Hancock, Vt., and Patrick Crickard and his wife, Tammy, of Knob Noster, Mo.; 15 grandchildren, Ray, Thomas, Tonya, Nicholas, Dana, Bradley, Paige, Michael, Kimberly, Ashley, Emily, Johnathan, Jake, Claire and Susan; his mother, Alma Shaffer of Valley Head; three sisters, Barbara Brown of Kissimmee, Fla., Janice Ware of Alexandria, Va, and Margie Teter of Mill Creek; and nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his father, John Ray Crickard; his stepfather, William Shaffer; and his first wife, Roberta Crickard.
His funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the United Federated (Congregational) Church of Williamstown, Vt. Laura B. Criss
Laura Belle Criss, 68, a resident of Route 4, Philippi, and a former resident of Chestnut Street, Philippi, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 17, 2004, in Broaddus Hospital.
She was born Jan. 23, 1936, at Philippi, the daughter of the late Walter Elam and Eva Mae Johnson Criss.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by three sisters, Bessie Mae Campbell, Mable Mary Criss and Ila Lee Moore; and three brothers, Harry Lee Criss, Robert Burton Criss and Henry Albert Criss.
She was a 1954 graduate of Philippi High School and was a homemaker.
She attended Crim Memorial United Methodist Church.

Betty Louise Crites of Route 3, Box 218B, Buckhannon, died 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004.
She was born in Hackers Creek, the daughter of the late Leslie Warner and Clara B. Lantz Warner.
On June 2, 1956, she married Don Crites, who survives.
Surviving are one daughter, Kathy Crites Hanifan of Buckhannon; two brothers, William Earl Warner and Clarence “Bud” Warner, both of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Daniel Hanifan and Nathaniel Hanifan, both of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Leslie Hanifan and Hannah Hanifan, both of Buckhannon; one aunt, Opal Lantz; and two uncles, Bob Lantz and Franklin Lantz.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Warner; one aunt, Genia Brake; and four uncles, Freeman Warner, Raymond Warner, Dutch Warner and Jennings Lantz.
She was a secretary of the West Virginia Department of Human Services.
She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose and Sago Baptist Church.

Joyce Louise Crites, 69, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born March 21, 1934, in Indian Camp, the daughter of the late Mason and Mary Newcomb Cutright.
On April 7, 1955, she married Dennis J. Crites Jr., who survives in Buckhannon.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Kevin R. Crites and wife, Veronica, of Buckhannon and Roger Kirk Crites and wife, Kathy, of Buckhannon; one daughter, Kelley Currence and husband, Dale, of Buckhannon; and four grandchildren, Jeremy Crites, Jenna Crites, Joshua Zickefoose and Madison Currence.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dane and Darrell Bosley; and one sister, Virginia “Ginny” Peck.
She worked for C&P Telephone and retired from Krogers.
She was a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church at Excelsior where she was a member of the choir.

Bernard Cross
Bernard Cross, 79, of Lee Street, Belington, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 21, 2004, in the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center in Belington following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Belington, the son of the late Bruce and Elizabeth Mae Cross Cross.
On June 21, 1946, in Texas, he married the former Dorothy Louise England, who survives at Lee Street, Belington.
Also surviving are six daughters, Patricia Diane Everson and husband, Paul, and Susan Louise Evans and husband, William, all of Belington, Nancy Ellen Holbert of Philippi, Brenda Joyce Smoot and husband, Larry, of Inwood, Judy Ann White of Winchester, Va., and Trudy Lynn Reid and husband, David, of Wenham, Mass.; three sons, Stephen Bruce Cross and Randy Lee Cross and wife, Kathy, all of Belington, and Bernard Douglas Cross of Elkins; one brother, Marvin L. Cross of Belington; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Right and Maysel Poling; by one brother, Odbert Cross; by one grandson, Greg Cross; and by one son-in-law, Dwight Holbert.
Mr. Cross was a retired railroad engineer for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the 125th Army Anti-aircraft Battery.
He was a life member of Laurel Mountain Post No. 410 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Belington, Belington Lodge No. 125 AF&AM, the Clarksburg and Wheeling Bodies of the Scottish Rite, Osiris Temple AAONMS, Tygart Valley Shrine Club and the Red Fez Patrol.
He was a Baptist.
Friends may call at the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Downing Gregory and the Rev. Walter Blough officiating. Interment will follow in the Belington Fraternal Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the combined units from Grafton. Gary Allen Crosston, 57, a resident of Route 2, Elkins, passed away at 8:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, in Davis Memorial Hospital. His death was attributed to exposure to the chemical Agent Orange during his service in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
He was born Aug. 8, 1947, at Parsons, the son of Leonard R. Crosston of Elkins and the late Mary Marguerite Crosston.
In 1972 in Elkins, he was married to the former Vickie Sue Teter, who survives.
Also surviving is one son, Kory C. “K.C.” Crosston and wife, Megan, of Elkins; one grandson, Cullen Patrick Crosston; and two special goddaughters, Kathleen “Katie” Martin and Regan Phares.
Also surviving are two brothers, Donald L. Crosston and wife, Linda, of Elkins and Thomas E. Crosston and wife, Dee, of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Gary was a graduate of Elkins High School and attended Davis & Elkins College. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army from 1968 until 1971 with the B Troop 7/17 Air Cavalry Ruthless Riders. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and several other medals.
He was employed with the Randolph County Board of Education as a school bus operator for more than 25 years.
He was a member of the West Virginia Highlanders Bagpipe Band for more than 20 years.
He was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Central West Virginia HOG Chapter and the National Harley Owners Group.

John M. Cruse
John Melvin Cruse, 43, of Valley Bend and formerly of Rainelle, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 25, 2004.
He was born Nov. 19, 1960, the son of Margaret Gipson Cruse of Rainelle and the late John W. Cruse Jr.
John was an underground coal miner for 21 years where he worked as a roof bolter.
He was a member of the McRoss Baptist Church.
John was preceded in death by his father, John W. Cruse Jr., on June 5, 2003.
John was a loving husband, dad, son, brother and uncle. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Deborah Owens Cruse; two daughters, Amber and Jonnie, both at home; his mother, Margaret Cruse of Rainelle; one sister, Judy Ballengee of Rainelle; and two brothers, the Rev. William Cruse and his wife, Patricia, of Danese, and Don Cruse and wife, Cheri, of Rainelle. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who dearly loved him and will miss him greatly.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel in Rainelle with the Rev. Kermit Hunter Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his father. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers and nieces will lovingly carry his flowers. Fern Louviens Mayle Culberson, 75, a resident of Mansfield Place, Philippi, formerly of Moatsville, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 10, 2004, in Mansfield Place.
She was born June 20, 1929, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Ezra and Katherine Mayle Mayle.
Surviving include two sons, Marvin Ezra Mayle and wife, Linda, of Philippi and Berkley Culberson of Good Hope; one daughter, Linda Games of Canton, Ohio; two grandsons, Marvin Alva Mayle of Philippi and Christopher Culberson of Ho Ho Kus, N.J.; two granddaughters, Teresa Fern Mayle of Philippi and Crystal Beth Mayle of Morgantown; one great-granddaughter, Alexandra Kay “Lexi” Cross of Volga; four sisters, Betty Jo Parsons and husband, Gifford, of Peoria, Ill., Judy Croston and husband, Ira, of Philippi, Nancy Mayle and Mary Jane Johnson, both of Moatsville; four brothers, Eldon Mayle, Vincent Mayle and wife, Leona, Curtis Mayle and Rodney Mayle, all of Canton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Ann Mayle; and two brothers, Donnie Mayle and Levi Mayle.
She attended Peoples Chapel Church and was active in the Ladies’ Aid and Pastor’s Aid under the ministry of the Rev. Frank Peoples. She was active in the development of the Chestnut Ridge Public Service District and served as secretary and treasurer. She retired from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resource, where she worked as custodian. She enjoyed cooking, crafts and listening to gospel music.

Martha B. Culp
Martha Barnard Culp, 87, of Willoughby, Ohio, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Fairmount Health Center at Breckenridge Village in Willoughby, Ohio.
Born Nov. 3, 1916, in Elkins, she lived in many different locales, moving with her late husband’s ministry. She later lived in New Martinsville for 20 years before moving to Breckenridge Village in Willoughby, Ohio, in April 1997.
Mrs. Culp was a member and former elder of the First Presbyterian Church of New Martinsville, where she was also active in the Presbyterian Women’s Circle at the church. She was an accomplished church organist and also played for various community activities. She was also a member of the PEO.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School and Davis & Elkins College where she earned her bachelor of arts degree. She later earned her master of arts degree in social work at the College of William and Mary in Virginia.
Mrs. Culp was employed as a social worker and occupational therapist prior to her retirement.
Survivors are her children, the Rev. Harriett E. Culp of Willoughby Hills, Ohio, George C. Culp and wife, Sue, of East Hampton, Conn., the Rev. Robert B. Culp and wife, Kathy, of Greenwich, Conn., and Carol Culp Corrigan and husband, James, of Contoocook, N.H.; seven grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Maudie Barnard of Elkins; and two brothers-in-law, Lee Culp of Wooster, Ohio, and Eugene Culp of Wheeling. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families and many close friends.
Her husband, the Rev. George C. Culp, died in January 1993. Her parents, Harry and Stella Harper Barnard and brothers, Paul, Notley, Charles and William Barnard are also deceased.
Memorial services for Mrs. Culp will be held at a later date at the First Presbyterian Church of New Martinsville.

Karen Louise Shipman Cunningham of Baltimore, Md., died Wednesday, March 24, 2004.
She was the daughter of Mayoma Shipman and the late Hollis Shipman.
She was the beloved wife of Phillip Cunningham; devoted mother of Lisa Marie Cunningham and Phillip Shawn Cunningham; and dear mother-in-law of Jennifer Marie Cunningham. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Phillip Peyton Cunningham and Trista Mowery.

Karen Cunningham
Karen Louise Shipman Cunningham of 1100 Seneca Road, Baltimore, Md., passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2004, in Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, Md.
Karen was born Sept. 12, 1941, in Elkins, the daughter of Mayoma Boyles Shipman of Elkins and the late Hollis William Shipman.
She was married on Aug. 3, 1963, to Phillip Cunningham, who survives in Baltimore.
Karen is survived by one daughter, Lisa Marie Cunningham; one son, Phillip Shawn Cunningham and his wife, Jennifer Marie; one grandson, Phillip Payton; and one granddaughter, Tristia Mowery, all of Baltimore.
She is also survived by three brothers and one sister, Larry and wife, Donna, of Elkins, William “Bill” and wife, Joan, of Charleston, Jerry and wife, Carroll, of Marshall, Texas, and Linda Shipman Nida and husband, Richard, of Elkins.
Karen was a 1959 graduate of Elkins High School and the Morgantown Beauty School.
Friends were received Friday at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home in Baltimore, Md. She was moved to the Adams-Reed Funeral Home in Cowen. Graveside services were today with Pastor Terry Cunningham, a brother-in-law of Karen’s, officiating.  From 29 Mar 2004.

Norman Cunningham
Norman Cunningham, 69, a resident of Bennett Gap Road in Riverton, died on Thursday, Nov. 18, at his home.
Mr. Cunningham was born in Riverton, the son of the late Mason Thompson and Zadie Cunningham Lee.
He was a member of Riverton United Methodist Church and a 25-year employee of Swift Poultry Plant in Harrisonburg, Va.
Mr. Cunningham recently worked at Seneca Rocks Visitors Center as well.
Mr. Cunningham is survived by one sister, Marie Pitsonbarger and husband, Arthur Wade, of Franklin, along with two nieces, Marsha Hamlin of Manassas, Va., and Melinda Hammer of Franklin, and two uncles and several cousins.
Family and friends will be received from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Basagic Funeral Home followed by burial at the Hinkle Family Cemetery in Riverton. William Cunningham
William “Bill” Cunningham, 70, of 65 Indiana St., Wheeling Island, Wheeling, formerly of Belington, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, in the Wheeling Hospital.
He was born July 13, 1933, in Philippi, the son of the late Geraldine Cunningham.
He was raised in Belington and a graduate of Belington High School.
Mr. Cunningham retired from the Laborer International Union Local 1149, Wheeling Carpenters Local No. 3, where he was a carpenter by trade. He was also an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he served as a military policeman.
He was a member of Central Chapel United Methodist Church and attended the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and uncle, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Sue Marsh Cunningham; one son, William Todd Cunningham and wife, Kelly, of Wheeling; one daughter, Melissa Sue Glessner and husband, Gary, of Valley Grove; four grandchildren, Kara and Krissy Cunningham and Gary and Sydney Kay Glessner; three sisters-in-law, Janet Nixon and husband, Jerry, of Wheeling, Mary Katherine Mossesso and husband, John, and Shirley Marsh, all of Philippi; and several nieces and nephews.

Dudley Junior Currence, 73, a resident of Cassity, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.
He was born May 20, 1931, at Hemlock, the only son of the late Dudley Britt Currence and Guida Jane Wagner Currence.
On July 9, 1949, he married the former Joan Christine Pastine, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Jerry Paul "Champ" Currence, and one daughter, Judith Ann Currence Broschart, both of Elkins; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Zickefoose and husband, Camden, of Hemlock and Mrs. Lydia Armeda Tenney and husband, Lawrence, of Mill Creek; four grandchildren, Paula "PJ" Merritt and husband, Dean, of Jimtown, Carla Marsh and husband, Derek, of Belington, Ashly Bonner and husband, Joseph, of Elkins and Robin Strawder of Mill Creek; six great-grandchildren, Meghan and Andrew Merritt, Celena Mallow, Joseph Marsh, Nathan Lanham and Zakkary Bonner.
Preceding him in death were two children, John Michael Currence and Joyce Marie Currence; three sisters, Creola Lanham, Viola Scott and Izetta Jack.
Mr. Currence was a retired coal miner having last worked for Rauer Coal Co. at Century. He was a member of Local 108 of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a Methodist by faith.

Charles “Chuck” Curtis, 45, a resident of Elkins, passed away Monday evening, June 7, 2004, in the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency Department as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born March 8, 1959, in Elkins, the son of the late Robert Curtis and the late Maggie Tincher Thomas.
He was formerly married to Oleva “Sue” Curtis, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving is his companion, Betty J. “Rude” Phillips of Elkins. Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Lutecia Curtis of Elkins and Crystal Elaine Curtis of Montrose; one brother, William Bradley “Brad” Curtis; and two sisters, Cecila Patricia “Pat” McCarty and Sherrie Curtis.
Also preceding him in death were his grandparents, Bailey and Selma Curtis.
Chuck was an avid motorcyclist and was employed at Elkins Fordland.

Edith Cutright, 88, a resident of Kure Beach, N.C., since 1996 and a former resident of Valley Bend, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at her home at Kure Beach.
She was born March 13, 1916, at Valley Bend, a daughter of the late William and Luetta Wegman. She was married to Thaddeus Cutright, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daugther, Wanna Joyce Simmons of Kure Beach, N.C.; one son, Bertrand Duane Cutright and wife, Roydetta, of Atlanta, Ga.; and two granddaughters, Sonya Simmons Proffitt and husband, Robbie, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Detta Renee Cutright Honaman and husband, Justin, of Atlanta, Ga.
Three great-grandchildren, Shaunna Proffitt of Spartanburg, S.C., Shannon Proffitt Dill of Johnson City, Tenn., and Tyson Proffitt of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Carrie Dressler of Covington, Va.; one brother, Todd Wegman and wife, Helen, of Linville, Va.; one sister-in-law, Josephine Cutright of Mill Creek; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Cutright was a member of the Kure Beach First Baptist Church and a former member of the Mill Creek United Methodist Church.

Gerald W. Cutright
Gerald Wilmoth “Jerry” Cutright, 56, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., died unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at Baptist Medical Center-Beaches in Florida.
He was born Dec. 5, 1947, the son of the late Elbert “Cuttie” Cutright and Geraldine Neely Cutright of Frenchton, who survives.
Also surviving are his wife, Kelli Elder Cutright of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; one brother, David Cutright and wife, Marilyn; one nephew, Brett Cutright; two nieces, Cheryl and Kelly Cutright of Danville, Pa.; one aunt, Marguerite Neely Henses of South Amherst, Ohio; his father-in-law, Eddie Elder and his mother-in-law Peggy Elder of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
He graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1965 and also graduated from the inaugural class of the University of North Florida with a master’s degree in accounting following completion of his undergraduate degree.
He served one tour of duty in Vietnam as a Navy corpsman.
His career was in banking and his current position was as executive vice president for credit administration for South Trust Bank.

Mary M. Cutright
Mary Margaret Cutright, 75, of Davis, passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at her home.
She was born Jan. 18, 1929, in Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Ralph and Ethel Elizabeth Cutright Hinkle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Cutright, in January 2001; and one brother, Frank Hinkle.
Survivors include one son, David Wayne Cutright of Thomas; one daughter, Janet C. Salik of Bowie, Md.; three brothers, Robert C. Hinkle of Luther, Mich., Darrel Hinkle of South Lyon, Mich., and John Hinkle of Buckhannon; two sisters, Pauline Boudman of Buckhannon and Geraldine Jolson of Monroe, Mich.; and three grandchildren, Shawn Cutright of Wilmington, N.C., Randal Salik of Annapolis, Md., and Derek Cutright of Tomball, Texas.
Mrs. Cutright was a housewife and was a member of the Davis United Methodist Church.

Myrtle Cutright, 98, of 3 Pinnell St., Buckhannon, died Thursday, April 15, 2004, at her home.
She was born May 4, 1905, in Hemlock, the daughter of the late Ira Light and Rebecca Leigh Light.
On June 26, 1935, she was married to Joseph Cecil Cutright, who preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1976.
Surviving are two sons, Dalton “Bud” Cutright and Paul “Butch” Cutright, both of Buckhannon; three daughters, Lois Cutright, Carolyn Robinson and Charlotte Davidson, all of Buckhannon; two sisters, Bernice Anderson of Buckhannon and Frances Tomblyn of Tallmansville; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by 10 sisters and brothers.
She was the former owner of the Colonial Hotel/Motel in Buckhannon and was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Gary Stackpole will officiate and interment will follow at Buckhannon Memorial Park.  From 16 Apr 2004.

Tammy Cutright
Tammy Renea Samples Cutright, 42, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born Aug. 23, 1961, in Upshur County, the daughter of Jack Thomas Jones and the late Betty J. Lewis Confere.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Floyd G. Cutright.
Also surviving are two daughters, Pamela Maxwell and husband, Charles J., of Buckhannon and Kayla Marie Samples of Buckhannon; one son, Bryan J. “B.J.” Samples of Buckhannon; two grandchildren, Ashley Rochelle and Brooklyn Dakota Maxwell; three sisters, Jackie Nido of Cleveland, Ohio, Betty Jones Tenney of Buckhannon and Brenda Jones of Weston.
Tammy attended the Way of Holiness Church.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Way of Holiness Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Way of Holiness Church with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Dale Cemetery at Selbyville. The Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel Inc. is in charge of the arrangements for Tammy Renea Samples Cutright.  From 27 Mar 2004.
