Jean Ramsey Wade
Jean Ramsey Wade, 71, a resident of the Blackman Heights community, Parsons, departed this life late Tuesday evening, Dec. 2, 2003, at her home.

Jean Wade
Jean Ramsey Wade, 71, a resident of the Blackman Heights community, Parsons, departed this life late Tuesday evening, Dec. 2, 2003, at her home. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to respiratory failure.
She was born Thursday, Dec. 24, 1931, at Parsons, the daughter of the late Charles Lee Ramsey and Eunice Baker Ramsey.
On Feb. 20, 1950, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Harry M. Wade, who survives at Hambleton.
Also surviving are one son; Danny Lynn Wade and wife, Diane, of Hambleton; one brother; Robert “Bob” Ramsey and wife, Irene, of Leadmine; and two granddaughters; Bethany Wade of Parsons and Janeen Wade of Ocala, Fla.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Bill Ramsey; and two sisters, Eloine McClain and Mary Irvin.
She attended the schools of Parsons. She was an employee of the former Dorman Woolen Mill of Parsons and a former employee of the Jim Propst Store.
She attended the Parsons Church of God.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor at 11 a.m. Friday. Jason Wagner
Jason Wagner, 16, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, July 17, 2003.
He was born Dec. 22, 1986, in Buckhannon, a son of Michael and Kathryn Mitchell Wagner of Buckhannon.
In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by a sister, Shawna Wagner of Wisconsin; maternal grandparents, Harold Mitchell of Michigan and the late Sharon Bush Mitchell; and paternal grandparents, Robert and Barbara McAlary Wagner of Michigan.
Jason was a junior at Buckhannon-Upshur High School and he loved the outdoors.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Olga E. Wagoner
Olga E. Wagoner, 68, of Route 2, Buckhannon, the Bailey Ridge community, died Monday, April 28, 2003, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born March 28, 1935, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Ellinor Kasten Manley.
She was united in marriage on April 3, 1953, to Harold Donald Wagoner, who survives.
She is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Steven (Donna) Perkins of Route 2, Buckhannon, and Mrs. Bob (Coleen) Arbogast of Buckhannon; one son, Danny and wife, Donna Wagoner, of Route 2, Buckhannon; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Eric Manley of Route 2, Buckhannon; three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Glenna) Wilfong, Mrs. Donis (Rowena) Cutright and Mrs. Hayward (Retha) Lewis, all of Route 2, Buckhannon.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Ivan Manley.
Mrs. Wagoner was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel today from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eddie McDaniels officiating. Clarence W. Waid
Clarence W. Waid, 69, of White Sulphur Springs, died Saturday, April 12, 2003.
He has one surviving brother, Nelson D. Waid of Hambleton.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs. Burial will follow in Alvon.  From 16 Apr 2003.

Eugene Wall
Eugene “Ewall” Wall, 88, a former resident of 1610 Taylor Ave., Elkins, and more recently a resident of Swisher’s Assisted Care Home at Elkins, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 15, 2003, at the home. He had been in declining health for the past two months.
He was born Thursday, May 6, 1915, at Camden, S. C., the son of the late John Wall and Mary Wall.
On May 5, 1945, he was married to the former Clara Beulah Wamsley, who preceded him on death April 8, 2001.
Surviving are one daughter, Joy Hostetler and husband, the Rev. Eli Hostetler, of Parsons; one grandson, Kevin Hostetler and wife Joan, of Parsons; one nephew, Donald Gordon of Elkins; and one niece, Evelyn Snodgrass of Elkins.
Eugene attended the schools of Camden, S.C., and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Army. He was a welder and heavy equipment mechanic and worked for Frazee Lumber Co., Glannon Spring Service and the Tygart Block Co., from which he retired.
He was a member of the Gospel Light Tabernacle and served as Sunday School superintendent.

John S. Wamsley
John Scott Wamsley, 53, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at the Bessemer Carraway Medical Center in Bessemer, Ala.
He was born June 2, 1950, in Elkins, the son of George Edward and Betty L. Ramsey Wamsley of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
He was a graduate of Upper St. Clair High School class of 1968 in Pittsburgh, Pa., and a 1972 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with
a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for Consolidated Coal Co. in the Mount Vernon, Ill., and St. Clairsville, Ohio, regions. Following his retirement from Consolidated Coal, he accepted a position with Pinnoak Resources as mine superintendent in the Birmingham, Ala., area.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sharon Douglas Wamsley of St. Clairsville; two daughters and spouses, Rachael and Peter DeWitt of Bolingbrook, Ill., and Nadine and Brandon Brink of Mount Vernon, Ill.; one son, Nathan Scott Wamsley of Mount Vernon, Ill.; one brother and spouse, Bill and Paula Wamsley of Sharpsburg, Md.; one sister, Linda Wamsley of Charleston; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bodie and Gladys Douglas of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one brother-in-law, Bruce and Loretta Douglas of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sister-in-laws, Judy and Bill Alexy of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Janice “Jan” Douglas of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Benjamin W. and Ruth Wamsley, and Ruford and Margaret Ramsey; two uncles, Benjamin “June” Wamsley and Edward James Lobb; and one aunt, Christine Wamsley Lobb.
The family received friends at Rotruck-Lobb Funeral Homes, Kingwood Chapel, 295 S. Price St., Kingwood, on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services were conducted in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. today with the Rev. Paul Mateer officiating. Simon L. Wamsley
Simon L. Wamsley, 85, of 153 Hickory Flat Road, Buckhannon, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born April 5, 1917, in Queens, a son of the late Albert Wamsley and Lelah Hoover Wamsley.
On Dec. 16, 1939, he married Stella Mae Koon Wamsley, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Larry Wamsley and wife, Corrine, the Rev. Marvin Wamsley and wife, Connie, and Chet Wamsley and wife, Kay, all of Buckhannon; one daughter, Yvonnda Tenney and husband, Charles, Buckhannon; two sisters, Ruth Taylor and Mescal Pugh, both of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Lesa Tenney, New York City, N.Y., and DeAnn Vestal, Ashboro, N.C.; and three grandsons, David Wamsley, Tyler Wamsley and Ryan Wamsley, all of Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Doyle Wamsley and Marrie Wamsley; and one granddaughter, Nola Ann Wamsley.
Mr. Wamsley was a coal miner at Pecks Run Coal Co. He was a member of the NRA and attended Tennerton United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Marvin Wamsley officiating. John R. Ward Jr.
John Ruskin Ward Jr. 79, of Route 1, Volga, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at his home under the care of hospice.
He was born Sept. 15, 1924, in Barbour County, the son of the late John Ruskin Ward Sr. and Edna Mabel Stalnaker Ward.
On March 8, 1952, he was united in marriage to Virginia Smith Ward, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Butch (Bernadine) Jack of Route 4, Buckhannon; and one son, John R. Ward III of Route 1, Volga.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Ward Harrison; and one grandson.
Mr. Ward served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a Methodist by faith.
According to Mr. Ward’s wishes, there will be no services. The Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.  From 17 Sep 2003.

Joyce B. Ward
Joyce B. Ward, 82, of Frank, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at her home in Frank.
Mrs. Ward was born Oct. 31, 1920, at Cass, a daughter of the late Thomas Daniel and Florence Lambert Brown.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are her ex-husband, James Allen Ward of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Linda Berkheimer of Hyattsville, Md., and Ann L. Jerome of Savage, Md.; one son, Stephen F. Ward of Loveland, Colo.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Lucille Ward
Lucille M. Calain Ward, 97, a resident of 110 South Gate Road, Elkins, departed this life Saturday afternoon, Oct. 25, 2003, at her home. She had been in declining health for the past month.
She was born Wednesday, June 6, 1906, at Arbovale, the daughter of the late McCoy Friel and Rella S. Gum Friel. She was twice married. First, on March 26, 1930, at Green Bank, she was married to Charles Forest Calain, who preceded her in death Feb. 22, 1967. On Nov. 25, 1977, she was married to Austin J. Ward, who preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 1990.
Surviving are two sons, James C. Calain and wife Helen, of Deep Creek, Md., and John F. Calain and wife Mary, of Little River, S.C.; four daughters, Darlene Powell and husband, Stanley Jr., of Akron, Ohio, Mildred L. Elmore and husband, Eugene, of West Farmington, Ohio, Barbara Brown and husband, Thomas, of Elkins, and Linda Crosston and husband, Donald, of Elkins; one daughter-in-law, Othel N. Calain, of Elkins; three stepdaughters, Martha Gainer of Elkins, Eloise Smock of Indiana, and Patty West of Richmond, Virginia; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and a special friend, Tina Ferguson. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Eloise James, of Avon Park, Fla.; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husbands were one son, Odbert M. “Tuffy” Calain; one stepson, Robert Calain; three brothers, Lyle, Kerth and Paul Friel; one sister, Anna Mae Fox; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Green Bank High School with the class of 1923, attended Davis and Elkins College and was a graduate of New River State Teachers College, now known as West Virginia Tech.
She was a teacher and taught in the schools of Pocahontas County at the one-room schools at Spruce, Oak Hill, Pine Grove, Sunset and Raywood, and retired in 1931.
She later worked at the Main Street Grocery and the Memorial General Hospital Snack Bar.
She was a member of the Delphia Rebekah Lodge No. 62, the Randolph Chapter No. 74, Order of the Eastern Star, the Pythian Sisters No. 77, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Crystal Springs Club of the Randolph County Community Education Outreach Service, the Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, where she had been an active member since 1959, and the Women of the Church.
Over the years, Mrs. Ward was a well-known seamstress who created everything from her children’s clothes to specialty costumes, such as majorette uniforms and wedding gowns. As a member of the Randolph County Extension Homemakers, she won first place in the county competition and second place at the West Virginia State Fair for one of her quilts. She also won a blue ribbon for one of her pine needle baskets at the West Virginia State Fair. She often contributed squares for the Forest Festival Queen’s Quilt, winning several ribbons. She was also well known for her other crafts, such as painting, basketry, shell art, ceramics, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed teaching these crafts to her daughters and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. On Tuesday morning, Mrs. Ward will be moved to the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, where final rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Daniel Bryan will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. Retha Ward
Retha Virginia Chewning Ward, 93, a resident of 1216 S. Henry Ave., Elkins, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 22, 1910, at Cassity, the daughter of the late Oscar G. and Rita Rae Herron Chewning.
On Dec. 25, 1926, in Mill Creek, she married Hudson Crouch Ward, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by three daughters, Dora June Carvalho and husband, Pieter, of Elkins, Sandra Dawn Wagner and husband, Donald, of Elyria, Ohio, and Barbara Ann Shipp and husband, Joseph, of Fredericksburg, Va.
Also surviving are one brother, Thurman E. Chewning and wife, Mona, of East Dailey; and two sisters-in-law, Maida Chewning of Fisher and Kathaleen Chewning of Elkins.
Six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.
One son, Miles Edward Ward; three brothers, Orval, Gerald and Loyal Chewning; three sisters, Ruby Linger, Ola Graham and Agnes Poling; and one great-great-grandchild preceded her in death.
Mrs. Ward was an avid gardener and a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Russell H. Ward Sr.
Russell H. Ward Sr., 83, a resident of Route 4, Elkins, Arnold Hill, passed away Sunday morning, May 25, 2003, at his home.
He was born Aug. 17, 1919, in Elkins, a son of the late Squire Russell Ward and the late Ruth Chenoweth Ward.
On Jan. 7, 1940, at Monterey, Va., he was married to Rachel Marie Weese Ward, who survives at Arnold Hill. Also surviving are two sons, Russell H. Ward II, and Charles S. Ward and wife, Vickie, of Elkins; and one daughter, Cynthia S. Talbott and husband, Darroll, of Elkins. A sister, Mary Gallagher of Sequim, Wa.; and seven grandchildren, Russell H. Ward III, T.C. Ward, Charles S. “Chuck” Ward, Douglas K. Summerfield, Amy M. Roberts, Samuel C. Talbott and Sarah G. Talbott; and a great grandchild, Russell H. Ward IV, also survive.
Also preceding him in death were two daughters, Sheila Gray Ward and Judy M. Summerfield; two sisters, Thelma Witt and Kathleen Gauley; and three brothers, Edward “Ted” Ward, Tommy Ward and Neal Ward.
Mr. Ward was lifelong resident of Randolph County and resided on Arnold Hill for the past 40 years. He was a machinist and welder and operated Ward’s Welding and Machine Shop from 1969 until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion.
Mr. Ward was a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church where he was baptized at the age of 2 and was a member, elder and Sunday school teacher at the former Midland Memorial Presbyterian Church until its closure. Mr. Ward enjoyed gardening and working outside his home. He was an avid carpenter and woodworker and will be remembered for his intricate woodcarvings.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Wednesday, he will be moved to the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church for visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Jeff Falter will officiate and interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens.
Full military rites will be accorded at the gravesite by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Memorial contributions may be made to Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, 450 S. Randolph Ave., Elkins, W.Va. 26241 or to Mountain Hospice, 1410 Crim Ave., Belington, W.Va., 26250, in memory of Mr. Ward.

Willard C. Ward
Willard “Bill” Clarence Ward, 86, a resident of Chester, Va., departed this life Sunday, July 27, 2003, at his residence.
He was born March 17, 1917, at Elkins, a son of the late Ray Ward and Harriet Carole (Hattie) Triplett.
His paternal grandparents were Job Ward and Catherine Chenoweth and his maternal grandparents were Randolph Triplett and Sarah Kittle.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Virginia “Dolly” Nussey on May 17, 1998. They were married on July 16, 1945.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and husband, Gary Helton, Chester, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Ray and wife, Jane Ward, Chester, Va.; one sister, Mary Louise Enlow, Baltimore, Md.; one brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence “Larry” and Donna Ward, Springfield, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Waldo (Margaret) Ward of Elkins, and Mrs. Austin (Lucille) Ward of Elkins; and six grandchildren, Kevin, Karen and Steven Helton, and Matthew, Sarah and Rebecca Ward.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Freda White, Dorotha “Dot” Toadvine Polovina, Ada and infant Margaret Ward; and three brothers, Waldo, Austin and Lanier.
He attended the schools of Randolph County. He was in World War II in Africa with the U.S. Air Service Mapping and Charting Division. He was a graduate of the University of Hard Knocks at Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, a cartographer with U.S. Government and Project Engineer with FAA.
He was a Baptist by faith.
Friends were received at J.T. Morris & Son Funeral Home, 3050 West Hundred Road, Chester, Va. Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.  From 1 Aug 2003.

Geneva M. Ware
Mrs. Geneva “Neva” M. Ware, 95, a resident of 405 Brown Ave. in Belington departed this life at 7:35 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, in the United Hospital Center at Clarksburg. She had been in failing health for the past several weeks but death was unexpected.
She was born Nov. 4, 1908, in the Sugar Creek community near Belington, a daughter of the late Samuel and Lee Ida Booth Moran.
On April 26, 1931, she was married to Kenneth H. Ware, who preceded her in death Jan. 17, 1994.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Kenneth “Ron” Ware; and four brothers and six sisters.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Elaine Ware of Belington; and several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Ware attended the schools of Barbour County. She was a long-time member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Belington where she served in various offices and committees and was very much involved in all functions of the church work. She was also a member of the Tygart Valley Rebekah Lodge 181 in Belington.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and on Sunday until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Arden Beck officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery at Belington. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Geneva “Neva” M. Lonnie Ware
Lonnie Ware, 79, a life long resident of Belington and more recently a resident of the Talbott Personal Care Home in Belington for the past year and a half, departed this life at 6:35 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003, in Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health for quite some time.
He was born June 25, 1924, in Norton, a son of the late Cecil and Blanche Pharis Ware.
His wife of 50 years, Loverine Virginia England Ware, whom he married on Sept. 27, 1952, survives at their home in Belington.
Also surviving are his children, Stanley E. Ware and wife, Patti, of Alliance, Ohio, Paula S. Morgan and husband, Brad, of Elkins, and Donald H. Ware and wife, Ruby, of Belington; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, five brothers, Fletis Ware, Max Ware, Bernie Ware and Cecil Ware Jr., all of Ohio, and Thomas Ware of Belington; and one sister, Jeraldine Potts of Ohio.
Mr. Ware attended the schools of Barbour County and was a retired coal miner. He was a disabled American Veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, Battery C 125th AA Gun Battalion. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 410 in Belington, and was a member of the Light of Christ Chapel in Belington, where he served as Deacon and was instrumental in the building of the church in its present location.
Friends were received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 p.m. and today until noon, at which time he will be moved to the Light of Christ Chapel in Belington, where friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral home, when services will be conducted from the church sanctuary with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Cemetery near Belington, where full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 44 of Philippi. Mary D. Ware, 78, of Gormania, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Md.
She was born May 14, 1925, in Flemington, a daughter of the late Coy and Metta (Hefner) Reed.
Along with her husband, she was the co-owner of Gormania Trading Post and was a member of the Rebekkah’s Lodge of Aurora.
She is survived by her husband, Fred L. Ware Sr.; two sons, Fred L. Ware Jr. and wife, Patricia, Beverly, and Rodger L. Ware and wife, Sherry, Mountain Lake Park, Md.; two sisters, Janice Stotts and Martha Reed, both of Valley Head; one brother, James Reed, Barberton, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the temporary home of Stewart Funeral Home, 13141 Garrett Highway, Oakland, Md., across from Wal-Mart on U.S. Route 219 north, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Services will be held at the funeral home Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Hickman officiating. Sue C. Ware
Sue Carroll Smith Ware, 70, of Wildwood, died Friday, June 20, 2003. Heaven has received a new angel.
A native of Kingwood, she moved to central Florida in 1994. She taught school for eight years and was a loving homemaker and mother. She sold real estate at Hawthorne for eight years, recently selling homes for Baird Home Sales in Leesburg. She was a member of Wildwood United Methodist Church.
Survivors are her husband, Marvin, of Wildwood; one son, David of Somerville, Mass; two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Beth Ann) Jacobs of Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Craig (Debbie) DeWitt of Bruceton Mills; four grandchildren, Timothy Jared Ware, Chloe Ware, Derek DeWitt and Angie DeWitt.
She graduated from Fairmont State College, Fairmont, and was a member of the Eastern Star in Belington.
A memorial service was conducted at the Wildwood United Methodist Church Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harry Holloman officiating. Henry H. Warner
Henry Hartzel Warner, 80, of Fairlawn Drive, Buckhannon, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, in Holbrook Nursing Home.
He was born May 6, 1922, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Edgar and Cosbie Teets Warner.
He was married for 58 years to Camella Lucille Tenney Warner, who survives. They were married at First United Methodist Church in Buckhannon.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Deanna Donn Earhart and husband, Bobby, of Hollywood, Md.; four grandchildren, Michael Wayne Earhart and wife, Tonya, of Martinsburg, Anthony Scott Earhart and wife, Brandy, of Hollwood, Md., Lynette Dawn Galton and husband, Tom, of Summersville, S.C., and William Todd Earhart and wife, Heather, of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; six great-grandchildren, Nick, Kesley and Cory Earhart, Brittany Payne, Kendall and Ethan Galton; one sister, Betty Gaunt and husband, William, of Buckhannon; and one brother, Clyde Warner of Newark, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Myrtle Ward, Eleanor Mackey and Addie Mason.
He was a graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School and attended the Chicago Institute of Drafting and Engineering. He was a precision machinist at the TRW Co. in Cleveland, Ohio.
He served in the military from 1942-1946, serving in the 56th Armored Infantry Battalion. He was battlefield commissioned to second lieutenant. He received the World War II Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Service Medal, Bronze Star, Distinguished Service Cross and two Purple Hearts. He was the most decorated soldier in the National Guard in the state of West Virginia in 1949.
He was a member of the Buckhannon Country Club, a life member of the Order of the Purple Heart and the American Legion Post 7.
He was a member of Tennerton United Methodist Church.

Irena Ruth C. Warner, 96, a resident of Route 2, Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at Anne Arundel County Hospital in Bowie, Md.
She was born June 4, 1907, in Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Charles W. Carr and Teresa Hibbs Carr.
On May 18, 1934, she was married to Orval B. Warner Sr., who died May 18, 1968.
Surviving are one son, Orval B. Warner Jr. and wife, Pat, Huntington, Md.; one daughter, Mrs. George (Wanda R.) Swisher, Bowie, Md.; one daughter-in-law, Diane M. Warner, Buckhannon; one sister, Ireta Rose Carr, Buckhannon; one brother, Alva Carr, Wintersville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Teresa Brower, Juanita Fox, Diana Galvin, Carmen Henninger, Carla Johnston, Christina Swisher, Donald Swisher, Darrell Warner, Jeffrey Warner and Lee Warner; 16 great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Carroll Lee Warner; and one brother, Madison Carr.
Mrs. Warner was a homemaker.
Friends will be received at the Sand Run Baptist Church on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Russell M. Warner
Russell McKendria Warner, 85, of Cherry Grove, died Sunday, May 25, 2003.
Mr. Warner, retired from the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, was also an avid farmer and outdoorsman. He was a member of the Pendleton County Farm Bureau and the Franklin Moose Lodge No. 769, as well as a 50-year member of Pendleton Lodge No. 144 of the AF&AM. He was also a member of the North Dry Run United Methodist Church.
Mr. Warner was born at North Day Run, near Cherry Grove, to Wilbur Flick Warner and Mary Kate Nelson Warner, who both preceded him in death. Mr. Warner is also preceded in death by his brother, Julino Nelson, and sisters, Leslie Warner and Mildred Colain.
Mr. Warner is survived by his wife, Gretta Mae Waybright; his sisters, Lucille Warner of Franklin, Thelma Lambert of Cherry Grove and Myrtle Thompson of Franklin; daughters, Frances Ellen Von-Schilling of Cherry Grove, and Sherrly Lee Pillow of Warrenton, Va.; and grandchildren, Adrian Sean Pillow and Susan Lily Pillow.
Family and friends will be received today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Stanley Kile will preside over the services, with Masonic graveside services conducted at the North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton by Pendleton Lodge No. 144.

Smilley Warner
Mr. Smilley Warner, 62, a resident of Route 1, Elkins, the Chenoweth Creek Road, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, in the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency Department. He had been in failing health for many years.
He was born April 29, 1940, in Riverton, a son of the late John Kenney Warner and the late Octavia White Warner.
On Dec. 1, 1957, he was married to the former Starlene Seese, who survives in Elkins. The Warners recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.
Also surviving are three sisters, Ruby Todd and Grace Johns, both of Dayton, Ohio, and Sara Alice Taylor of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were five brothers and one sister.
Mr. Warner was employed by Labcraft for many years prior to becoming disabled.
He was a member of Montrose Lodge No. 265 IOOF and the Memorial Mission Church in Mill Creek.

Arnold R. Watson
Arnold Ray Watson, 70, a resident of Belington, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at his residence. Death was sudden and unexpected.
Born March 31, 1933, in Randolph County, he was the son of the late Perry Russell and Florence Oxley Watson.
On April 28, 1992, he was united in marriage to the former Ruby F. Ross, who survives at Belington.

Arnold R. Watson
Arnold Ray Watson, 70, of Belington, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at his residence. He had been in his usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.
He was born March 31, 1933, in Randolph County, a son of the late Perry Russell and Florence Oxley Watson.
On April 28, 1992, he was united in marriage to the former Ruby F. Ross, who survives at Belington.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Kirby Watson and wife, Annie of Belington; two sisters, Grace Shifflett of Dodson Run and Bessie Ramsey of Elkins; three brothers, Charlie Watson of Valley Bend, Richard Watson of Belington and Donald Watson of Dailey.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, three stepgrandchilden, several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were three sisters, Orrie Griffith, Eunice Raines and Margie Vanpelt; and four brothers, Everett, Willie, Lewis and Ronald Watson.
Mr. Watson was formerly employed in New Jersey. He was a lumber stacker for Wares Sawmill in Belington before becoming disabled.
Arnold loved to hunt and was an avid fisherman. He was a Pentecostal by faith.
Arnold was a kind-hearted man and would do anything for anyone. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home in Elkins Thursday after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner Chapel at 1 p.m. Friday. The Rev. A.H. Belt will officiate. Interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Gilman.

Rev. Edgar R. Waybright
The Rev. Edgar Roy Waybright, 78, of Academy Street, Buckhannon, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at the Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
He was born April 23, 1925, at Kerns, a son of the late John Ed and Sophia Clayton Waybright. He was united in marriage on Sept. 20, 1947, to Wanda J. Coberly Waybright who survives.
He is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Waybright-Bass of Culpeper, Va., Elizabeth Vincent and husband, Ron, of Bridgeport and Lori Ann Wolmack of Charlottesville, Va.; two sons, Michael E. Waybright of Frederick, Md., and Mark Waybright and wife, Suzanne, of Philadelphia, N.Y.; one brother, Virgil Waybright of Elkins; 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clifton Waybright, Guy Waybright, Burl Waybright and Jim Waybright; and four sisters, Jessie Hottle Martha Hedrick, Edna Bodkin and Ethel Carr.
Waybright was the pastor of the Frenchton Assembly Church for 18 years, served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 during World War II, and in the Air Force from 1950 to 1969, at which time he retired. Also, he retired from the Department of Highways in 1987.

James H. Waybright
James Herman Waybright, 73, of Poplar Street, Hopewell, Va., died Friday, July 11, 2003, in Hopewell Health Care Center.
He was born in Whitmer and had been a resident of the Tri-City area since 1981.
Mr. Waybright was a member of the VFW and the American Legion in Elkins. He was a retired sergeant from the U.S. Army, having served during both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
He was the son of the late Thadeus and Alpha Elza Waybright.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Nell Sutton Waybright of Hopewell, Va.; two brothers, Harvey Waybright of Washington State, and Phil Waybright of Missouri.
Graveside services were held in Little Arlington Cemetery at Elkins today at 10 a.m. The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Hopewell, Va.  From 15 and 16 Jul 2003.

Lester C. Waybright, 71, of Zelienople, Pa., passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at the VA Medical Center in Butler, Pa.

Betty R. Weaver
Betty Rae Weaver, 75, of the Arden community, Route 1, Moatsville, died Tuesday morning, June 17, 2003, in Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 4, 1927, at Arden, a daughter of the late George S. and Ina Ellen Knotts Rexroad.
Surviving are her former husband, James L. Weaver Sr., Moatsville; three sons, James L. Weaver Jr. and wife, Dolly, Aliquippa, Pa., Richard Lane Weaver and fiancee, Carol, Moatsville, and Jack Randall Weaver and wife, Tammy, Philippi; three daughters, Marsha Diane Serback and husband, Paul, Kathryn Lynn Davis and husband, Bill, and Anamaria Marsh and husband, J.W., all of Moatsville; one brother, Clyde Rexroad, Ft. Worth, Texas; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Joyce Weaver and Debra Weaver; four sisters, Nellie Ramage, Gladys Mae Weaver, Olive Rexroad and Vonda Rexroad; and four brothers, Howard "Perk" Rexroad, Franklin "Bennie" Rexroad, Herbert R. Rexroad and Hoy Lee Rexroad.
Mrs. Weaver was retired from the food service department at Alderson-Broaddus College and was a member of the Arden United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener and reader who loved the outdoors and animals.

Eliza Luella Sharp Hall Barb Webster, 82, a resident of Cleveland, Ohio, for the past 40 years, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland.
Born Dec. 19, 1920, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Emmitt Luther and Tabitha Francis Ware Sharp.
She was united in marriage to James Webster, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Bobbie Ward and fiance, Rick Trischan, Greg Hall and Ken Hall and wife Lynette; four great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Webster was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by three sons, Robert Hall, Kenneth R. Hall and Terry Dennis Barb; two sisters, Mary Woodsie Wood and Texie B. Wilson; and four brothers, Kessler R., Donnie Roy, Woodford and Massie Sharp.

Ella Weese, 95, a resident of Beverly, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at Nella’s Nursing Home where she had been in failing health since Oct. 22, 1999.
Born Feb. 5, 1903, in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Furdie and Salina Mahoney Swinger.
On Aug. 25, 1925, she was united in marriage to Troy W. Weese, who preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1981.

Ella Weese
Ella Weese, 95, of Beverly, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at Nella’s Nursing Home where she had been a resident since Oct. 22, 1999. She had been in failing health since that time.
Born Feb. 5, 1908, at Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Furdie and Salina Mahoney Swiger.
On Aug. 25, 1925, she was united in marriage to Troy W. Weese, who preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1981.
Ella is survived by four daughters, Elma Schoonover of Beverly, Betty Simmons of Beach City, Ohio, Mary Hammonds of Canton, Ohio, and Jackie Perez of Denver, Colo.
Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by one daughter, Velma Taggart; two sons, Louis and Leonard Weese; three sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren.
Ella was a homemaker. She loved making quilts and also babysat for several families in the Randolph County area.
Ella will be sadly missed by her daughters, grandchildren and other people whose lives she touched. Besides being a wonderful mother and grandmother, she was a wonderful person.
Ella was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church.

Elsie Weese
Elsie Marie Phillips Weese, 89, a resident of Route 2 in Belington and more recently a resident of the Talbott Personal Care Facility in Belington, departed this life at 2:50 a.m. Friday. Oct. 10 in the care facility. She had been in declining health for quite some time.
She was born Oct. 25, 1913, on Mill Run in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Marvin and Olive Mae Phillips.
On Sept. 16, 1950, at Belington, she was united in marriage to Earnest Weese who survives at the Talbott Personal Care Facility in Belington.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one stepdaughter, Letha Marsh-Ohio; three stepgrandchildren; cousins, Herbert Phillips of Elkins, Gladys Harris of Uniontown, Ohio, Wilma Lee Sturms and Nina Lee Jones, both of Akron, Ohio, Alta Mae Robinson of Fernley, Nev., Laura Lou Tennant and husband, Don, of Mogadore Ohio, Richard and Linda Kittle of Belington and Harry Harris Jr. of Akron, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Earl and wife, Verdie, of Montrose; two sisters-in-law, Emma Poling and husband, Otis, Montrose, and Erma Woolford of Elkins.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one cousin, Stuart Harris.

Lelah E. Weese
Lelah Elizabeth Weese, 90, of Mt. Liberty community, Route 4, Philippi, died Monday, March 31, 2003, in the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, Belington where she had been a patient since July 1991.
She was born Sept. 6, 1912, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Ervin and Lourie J. Holbert Chenoweth.
On Aug. 17, 1935, she was married to Norman “Bus” Weese, who preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1999.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Eddie (Jane Ann Evans) Weese, Route 4, Philippi; three grandchildren, Mrs. Wayne (Brenda) Bauer, Norman Kent Weese and Mrs. Steven (Karla) Hively, all of Philippi; five great-grandchildren, Michael and Ashley Bauer, Brook and Brodi Hively, all of Philippi, and Joshua Weese, Fairmont; one great-great-grandchild, Dalton Shiflett, Philippi.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Norman Edsel “Eddie” Weese; one sister, Pauline Coontz; and an infant brother.
Mrs. Weese was a former public school teacher and former cook in Mt. Liberty School. She retired as a salesperson from the G.C. Murphy Co. store in Philippi. She was a member of the Corley United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher, youth director, choir member and a member of the Ladies Aid.
Friends may call at Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until noon Friday when Mrs. Weese will be moved to the Corley United Methodist Church, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Dale Waters, the Rev. Don Fitzwater and the Rev. Arden Beck will officiate and interment will follow in Barbour Memorial Cemetery. Lucille Weese, 86, a resident of Moore Street for many years, passed away Sunday evening in Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

Lucille Weese, 86, a resident of 20 Moore St., Elkins, for many years, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2003, in Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
She was born April 9, 1917, at Fairmont, the daughter of the late Obe and Lula Mae Kisner Stone.
In 1937, she was married to Wayne Weese, who preceded her in death in 1998.
Surviving are two sons, Keith L. Weese and wife, Jeannie, and Norris L. Weese and wife, Brenda, all of Elkins; one daughter, Barbara J. Weese of Elkins; and two sisters, Maxine Summers of Independence and Evelyn Wolfe of Williamston, S.C.
Six grandchildren, Rhonda Weese, Sonya Barclay, Tonya Elza, Misty Johnston, Jeffrey Weese and Timothy Weese; and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding her in death was a sister, Audrey Stone.
Mrs. Weese was a graduate of Kingwood High School and was last employed at the snackbar at the former Memorial General Hospital prior to her retirement.
She was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center and the First Baptist Church.

Edna M. Wegman
Edna Mae Wegman, 76, a resident of Dailey where she had made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, John and Cathy Wegman, passed away at 8:38 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at her residence. She had been in failing health for the past two months.
Born June 8, 1927, in Elkins, she was the daughter of the late John Elmer and Helena Ethel Booth Simmons.
Edna was twice married. Her first husband, George Henry Williams, preceded her in death. In 1955, she was united in marriage to John Robert Wegman, who preceded her in death on July 7, 1987.
Surviving are three daughters, Jeanette Elizabeth Wise and husband, Bill, of Carmichaels, Pa., Barbara A. Williamson and husband, Robert, of Dilliner, Pa., and Deborah Kay Lewis of Waynesburg, Pa.; two sons, John Robert Wegman Jr. and wife, Cathy, of Dailey and Dennis Lynn Wegman and wife, Trudy, of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Nancy Jean McCullough of Plant City, Fla.; and one brother, John Elmer Simmons Jr. of Beverly.
Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were one daughter, Helena Williams Rowe; three brothers, Jim Simmons, Gary Simmons and Bill Simmons; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Wright and Drew Wright.
Edna was a homemaker and served fountain drinks and sandwiches at the old Neale’s Drug Store. She also was a switchboard operator during World War II for Bell Atlantic Telephone Co.
Edna loved to tap dance, was very interested in the history of World War II and made many scrapbooks. She loved cooking and especially making from scratch all kinds of pastries, cakes and homemade bread. She loved to garden and can. She loved the theater and spent a lot of time with her children there.
Mrs. Wegman was a Protestant by faith and also believed in the Sacred Name Religion.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel today after 7 p.m. and on Saturday after 3 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the F.E. Runner Funeral Home on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Don Jacko will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The F.E. Eunice Wegman
Eunice Wegman, 68, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 21, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Ellis and Tippie Bender.
She was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Wegman, who survives in Mill Creek.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Richard “Rick” Wegman of West Virginia and William “Bill” Wegman of Virginia; one daughter, Julia Ann Wegman Smith of Virginia; five sisters, Mrs. Charles (Evelyn) Weese of Maryland, Janet Norburg of Virginia, Mrs. Ken (Juanita) Sproat of Maryland, Norma Wegman of North Carolina, and Mrs. John (Jo Ellen) Seaborn of Virginia; three brothers, James Bender and wife, Thelma, Bob Bender and wife, Catherine, and Larry White and wife, Cheryl, all of Virginia; one brother-in-law, Shirley Carr of Maryland; and a stepmother, Arlene Bender of Virginia.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Melissa Moore, Holly Wegman, Jenifer Wegman and Kyle Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were two brothers, Woodrow Bender and Irving Ray Bender; and one sister, Estel Carr.
Mrs. Wegman worked as a meat wrapper for Pantry Pride, Food Fair, A&P and Food Lion for 34 years. She then worked for Snowshoe for seven years.
Eunice was faithful to her church and had worked for 23 years for the nursery at Monumental Baptist Church in Petersburg, Va. She was also a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Beverly. She was a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She will never be forgotten and will always be loved by all.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home on Saturday after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner Chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Bill Hopkins and the Rev. Michael Allen will officiate and interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville. The F.E. Bruce G. Wells
Bruce G. Wells, 73, of Concord Street, Clarksburg, departed this life on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at the Veterans’ Hospital in Aspinwall, Pa., following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Charleston, the son of the late Idon Wells and May Cecil Wells.
He wife, Frances “Patty” Rolland Wells, whom he married June 5, 1954, survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Bruce R. Wells and wife, Tammy, of Elkins, Mark E. Wells of Clarksburg and Tim G. Wells and wife, Tonia, of Clarksburg; one daughter, Jayne Stout and husband, Jim, of Clarksburg; and five grandchildren, Kenneth Weekley, Chad Wells, Corey Wells, Tyler Wells and Madison Wells.
Mr. Wells was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston and received his bachelor’s degree in business from West Virginia University. He was a purchasing agent and retired from AFG.
Mr. Wells was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Elks Club and served as past exalted ruler and past district deputy, was a member of the Clarksburg Rotary and was the former past president of the Clarksburg Country Club.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg.
Mr. Wells enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.
At Mr. Wells’ request, there will be no public visitation. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Davis Funeral Home. Charles L. Wereley
Charles Ligget Wereley, 88, of Boggess Street, Buckhannon, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at his home.
He was born May 25, 1915, in the Ligget Addition of the city of Buckhannon, a son of the late Elnora (Ligett) and Edward C. Wereley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maynard Talbott Wereley; and his only child, Steven John Wereley.
He is survived by a grandson, Steven John Wereley II and his parents, Julia and Richard Schiermeyer and their sons, Michael and Christopher of Macungie, Pa. Also surviving are a brother, Jansen Dawson Wereley of Buckhannon; and an aunt, Martha Ligget Wells of Birmingham, Mich.
He graduated from Buckhannon High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College. He was employed as a special agent for the FBI and was stationed in Michigan and New Jersey. He had received several letters of accommodation from J. Edgar Hoover. He retired from the FBI in 1969 and returned to Buckhannon.
After retiring, he went to auction school and became a very well-known auctioneer. He also pursued his lifelong interest in antiques. He had amassed quite a large collection of toys and other fine antiques.
He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America. He served as a scoutmaster of Troop 128, where his son became an Eagle Scout. He continued to support the scouts in this area. In 1998, the dining hall at Camp Mahonegon was named in honor of him. He was also awarded the Silver Beaver and Distinguished Silver Beaver, the highest awards scouts give to adults.
He was also a member of the Buckhannon Rotary Club and the First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Oswald M. Werner
Oswald Maynard Werner, 82, of the Audra Road in Belington, departed this life at 6:20 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Werner had been in declining health, however death was sudden and unexpected.
He was born Oct. 1, 1920, on the Audra Road, near Belington, a son of the late Merl and Grace Wagoner Werner.
On May 15, 1942, he was married to the former Anna Canfield, who preceded him in death on June 3, 1976. On March 25, 1977, he was married to the former Genevieve Thomas, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Eva Mae Everson and husband, Howard, and Rosa Lee Plum and husband, Lawrence, all of Belington. He is also survived by one sister, Mildred Werner of Belington; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Yvonne Werner.
Mr. Werner attended the schools of Barbour County. In his earlier years he was employed, along with his father, in the logging and sawmill business. Later on, he was employed by Raymond Wilmoth, and then became employed by the Copper Tie Co. in Belington. Lastly, he was employed by the West Virginia Department of Highways, from which he retired. Mr. Werner was known for his love of hunting and fishing. He was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday until 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home parlor with Pastor Ronny Phillips officiating. Martha Mearns West
Martha Mearns West, 91, of 17 Sedgewick St., Buckhannon, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at her home.
She was born March 29, 1912, in Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Calvin Lee Mearns and Ada Casto Mearns.
Surviving are three daughters, Rosalee West of Wampum, Pa., Jean West Ward of Buckhannon and Rebecca W. Kunzelman of Fairmont; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
She graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1932. She was a school teacher and retired from teaching in 1972.
She was a member of the Emeritus Club of West Virginia Wesleyan College and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 11 at Lorentz Church Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Stackpole will officiate. Betty R. Westfall
Betty Rae Westfall, 70, of Buckhannon, Bailey Ridge community, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in Grafton Hospital.
She was born Nov. 5, 1932, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Fred C. and Lula Deuley Westfall.
Surviving are three brothers, Richard Westfall, Fred Westfall and Joe Westfall, all of Buckhannon; three sisters, Wilma Leveir, Buckhannon, Mary Westfall, Weston, and Doris Williams, Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
She was a Methodist by faith.

Lynn Eugene Westfall
Former Upshur County School Superintendent Lynn Eugene Westfall, 64, of Buckhannon, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, following an extended illness.
Westfall attended Adrian Elementary School and the Tennerton division of Buckhannon-Upshur High School, graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1957. He graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1961, majoring in political science and biology.
He became one of the “teachingest Westfalls,” according to family members, teaching English and history at Brunswick High School in Brunswick, Md., from 1961-1963 and at B-UHS from 1963-1968
In 1968, he began his administrative career, serving as vice principal at B-UHS and as general supervisor, assistant superintendent, and from 1985-1995 as superintendent of Upshur County Schools.
In his career, Westfall was instrumental in helping establish the current programs for elementary art, physical education, and music taught by traveling teachers and the strings program for grades four through 12.
He served on regional and state educational committees and at WVWC as a member of the Mason Crickard Scholarship Committee and the Alumni Board.
He was honored with the first Campus Technology Excellence in Education Award in Leesburg, Va., in 1990, and in 1993, with the West Virginia Music Educators Superintendent of the Year Award and the West Virginia Leaders of Learning Award.
Upon retirement, the Upshur County Professional Educators established a B-UHS scholarship in his honor.
He also served after retiring as a substitute teacher and principal, as a mentor and proofreader for teachers pursuing national certification, and as a volunteer for his wife’s elementary music classrooms at Tennerton, Washington District, Academy and B-U Intermediate Schools.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir and recently served as the chair of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, helping to formulate an employee policy manual that included job descriptions.
He was a member of Buckhannon Choral Society and enjoyed literature, gardening, cooking and the fine arts, particularly music.
He played piano and violin, and in recent years began playing Appalachian dulcimer with his wife, occasionally in period attire as “Uncle Jasper and Aunt Jane.”
He was born on Oct. 1, 1939, in Buckhannon, the son of the late Monta Blanche Waugaman Westfall and G. Russell Lowell Westfall.
His children, Jane Ellen, Ashley Lynn and Elizabeth Helen, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Felicia J. Burger-Westfall; his sister, Lois Westfall Oldaker; nephew and wife, Bradley and Marianne Kaufmann Oldaker of Weston; niece and husband, Lisa Oldaker Palmer and Bruce Palmer of North Grafton, Mass.; nephew, Philip Oldaker of Buckhannon; three great-nephews; one great-niece; and many extended family members.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, 52 S. Florida St., Buckhannon. The body will lie in state prior to the funeral service at the church at 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be at Heavner Cemetery. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Mark Flynn, the Rev. Billee Scott Mick and the Rev. Charles Godwin. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family has requested that visitors refrain from wearing fragrances because of Mrs. Westfall’s severe allergies.

Mildred Catherine Kuykendall Westfall, 79, of Petersburg, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.

Susan Whitcomb
Susan Whitcomb, 47, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 8, 2003, in the Davis Memorial Hospital emergency department following a sudden illness.
She was born Nov. 12, 1955, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Earl and Lucille Marie Folk Berkley.
She was married to Walter Whitcomb, who survives near Mill Creek.
Also surviving are one son, Olan Earl McCauley, at home, and one daughter, Emma Marie McCauley, a student at Marshall University; her stepmother, Arlene Alford, Cleveland, Tenn.; three brothers, Thomas Berkley, Avon, Ind., Allen Berkley, Paynesville, Ohio, and Roger Berkley; two half brothers, Robert and Joseph Berkley; one stepbrother, Columbus Collis; and one stepsister, Mitzi Garrett.
Susan was a loving, hard-working mother and was a graduate of the Upshur County School of Practical Nursing. She had been employed by Nella’s Nursing home for the past 17 years.

Argil D. White
Argil D. White, 73, of 3220 Peroutka Lane, Kossuth, Wisc., went home to Jesus on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at his residence.
Argil was born July 27, 1930, in West Virginia, the son of the late Grover and Mabel Hartman White.
He had been a Mishicot-area resident for the past eight years, formerly residing in Green Bay.
Mr. White served in the U.S. Air Force as a meteorologist during the Korean Conflict, and married the former Kay Kenny on Jan. 28, 1995, in Green Bay.
Mr. White was founder of the J.V. Manufacturing Co. in Ashwabenon.
He was a member of the Grace Congregational Church in Two Rivers. He once held a part in a movie with Gene Autry and was a world traveler. He obtained the status of a Kentucky Colonel for his many accomplishments while living in Kentucky.
Surviving are his wife, Kay; three daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara Coenen and husband, Chris, of Cecil, Wisc., Jaclyn Graf and her special friend, Jeff Kasubaski, both of Winneconne, Wisc., and Julie Morrell of Neenah, Wisc.; one son, Timothy White of Florida; three grandchildren, Sean, Carly and her husband, Grant, and Maya.
He is further survived by two stepsons, Charles Floading and his wife, Lisa, of Milwaukee, Wisc.; and Thomas Floading of Green Bay, Wisc.; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Virginia) Stalnaker of West Virginia and Mrs. Don (Glenda) Bucklew of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Miriam; four brothers, Hubert, Adrian, Otha and Jim; and one sister, Vada.
A private family memorial service will be at a later date. The White family wishes to express a very special thank you to the Holy Family Hospice for their love, special care and concerns shown to Argil and our family during his brief illness. Ashley Nicole White, 16, a resident of the Kerens community, passed away at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003, in Marlinton from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Born March 3, 1987, in Elkins, she is the daughter of Anthony "Tony" White and companion, Kimberly, of Kerens, and Susan C. Schoonover White and companion, Edward, of Marlinton.

Ashley Nicole White, 16, a resident of the Kerens community, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2003, at 7 a.m. in Marlinton. Death was attributed to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
She was born March 30, 1987, in Elkins, a daughter of Anthony "Tony" White and companion Kimberly, who survives at Kerens, and Susan C. Schoonover White and companion Edward, who survive in Marlinton.
Also surviving are her paternal grandfather, Bill Long and Rita of Hendricks; paternal grandmother, Donna Vandevender and Bill of Montrose; one sister, Sara Dawn White of Marlinton; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her maternal grandparents, Carl and Loretta Jean Schoonover.
She attended Elkins High School. She loved to write and work on computers. She rode 4-wheelers and just loved life in general. She was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Chapel after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Kevin Gainer will officiate. Claude D. White
Claude DeWitt White, 76, a resident of Bemis and Milford, Mich., since September 2002, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at the home of his daughter in Michigan, following an extended illness.
He was born July 1, 1926, at Glady, a son of the late Abraham Tallman and Grace Lena Barkley White.
He was married to Beverly Gagnon Driscoll on Feb. 26, 1966, who preceded him in death in August 1990.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Karen) Vance, Jimtown, Sharon Brake, New Jersey, and Mrs. Thomas (Dee) Letvin of Milford, Mich.; one stepson, Chrissie Driscoll of Jimtown; a brother, Ronald White, Bemis; and three sisters, Pearl Curkendall, Philippi, Pauline Shillingberg, Morgantown, and Mildred "Leafy" Bohon, Elkins. Five grandchildren, Abbie and Samantha Letvin, Travers, Brian and Andrew Brake; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Matthew Brake also survive.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Woodrow "Woody" White and William "Bill" White.
Mr. White attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed as a paper maker for Scott Paper Co. in Detroit, Mich., for 29 years. In 1978, he moved to Bemis and worked for Badger Coal’s No. 9 Mine in Buckhannon. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Belgium, France and Germany. He was a member of the Bemis Community Church and American Legion Post 216 of Milford, Mich.

Frances Kathryn “Kathy” White, 40, a resident of the Elk community of Dryfork, departed this life early Friday morning, April 11, 2003, at the home of her mother, Pat White, following a courageous battle with cancer for the past six years.
She was born March 18, 1963, in Parsons, a daughter of the late David White Sr. and Patricia Pratt White, who survives at Dryfork.
She was formerly married to Ercil L. Martin, who survives at Valley Bend.
Also surviving are one son, Travis Neil Martin, Hendricks; five stepsons, Johnny, Denver, David, Eugene and Daniel; two stepdaughters, Frances and Tammy; three brothers, Richard White of Parsons, Michael White of Frostburg, Md., and Ronald White of Franklin; one stepbrother, David E. White of Hendricks; three sisters, Kerry Riggleman of Harrisonburg, Va., Janet L. Bucklew of New Creek, and Helen M. Rhoades of Parsons; one stepsister, Evangeline Johnston of Montrose; and her longtime companion, Virgil L. Lambert of Valley Bend.
She is preceded in death by one brother, David M. White.
She attended the Hamrick School at Hendricks, Parsons High School and graduated with the class of 1981 from Tucker County High School and attended Davis & Elkins College. She was a nurse’s aide, former employee of the Canaan Valley Resort, the EconoLodge of Elkins, and the Colonial Mill Works at Beverly. She loved crocheting, knitting and hooking quilts, and was known for her talent for making doll babies, and was an avid reader.
The family will receive friends at the Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home on Sunday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home parlor on Monday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Harriet White
Harriet White, 82, of Thomas, passed away at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins on Monday, Jan. 27, 2003.
She was born June 14, 1920, in Red Creek, a daughter of the late Harry Clay and Ada Elizabeth Raines White.
She is survived by two sisters, Betty Marzullo, Butler, Pa., and Marge Conley of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. White was a registered nurse, having served with the U.S. Army during World War II and then retiring from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was a member of the Thomas Presbyterian Church. She served on the board of directors for Cortland Acres Nursing Home from 1981 to 1987 and then was active with the friends of Cortland Acres for many years.
At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to Cortland Acres Nursing Home for the Thomas Presbyterian Church. Henry Tryver White, 73, a resident of Weese Street, passed away at 6:05 p.m. Friday, Oct., 31 2003, at the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center in Belington.
He was born Aug. 26, 1930, at Flint, the son of the late Willis and Sallie Ann White.
He was twice married. His first wife, Ruth Beatrice Arbogast White, preceded him in death. On May 20, 1974, at Oakland, Md., he was married to Charlene Jeter, who survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Annette White of Elkins; one stepson; three stepdaughters; four stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Willis and Harlan Leon White; one sister, Trellis Joan White; and one half sister, Bergetta D. White Davis.
Mr. White was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was formerly employed at Labcraft at Beverly.
Friends will be received Tuesday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. John Lesley White, 51, a resident of Davis Avenue in Elkins, departed this life Monday, June 23, 2003, at his Davis Avenue residence. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

Junior H. White
Junior H. White, 79, of 89 Columbus Ave., Meriden, Conn., husband of Sharon (Keating) White, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 22, 2003, at MidState Medical Center.
He was born in Dry Fork, June 22, 1923, a son of the late Ressie H. and Myrtle R. White. He had been a resident of Meriden.
He was a graduate of Green Bank High School with the class of 1941. He was employed by Chandler-Evans Co. from 1946 to 1957 and with AGC of South Meriden, from 1957 to 1992, retiring as plant manager. More recently, he worked part-time for Arrow Drug and Omni Care. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and was very active as a member of the BPOE No. 35.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Robert H. White of Medford, Mass., Bruce E. White of Texas, and Jay Michael White of Linden, Va.; two grandsons, Peter and Jonathan White, both of Medford, Mass.; one great-grandson, Thomas White of Medford, Mass.; one stepson, C.J. Pulaski Jr. and three Pulaski grandchildren of Meriden, Conn.; one sister, Gwen McVaney of Southington, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Lorine "Katie" White, 85, a former resident of the Crystal Springs Community, Elkins, and for the past six and one-half years, a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, departed this life early Thursday morning, Jan. 2, 2003, at the center. She had been in declining health for the past seven years.
She was born Saturday, June 9, 1917, at Davis, a daughter of the late John White and Agnes Jordan White.
On Dec. 10, 1932, at Harman, she was married to Orval D. White, who preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1979.
Surviving are four sons, Richard L. White, Wymer, Floyd Leonard White, Beverly, O. Keith White, Elkins, and Arthur W. White, Inwood; four daughters, Edith Ray, Crystal Springs Community, Mary A. Evans, Chenoweth Creek Road Community, Ruby Phillips, Bowden, and Sarah A. Woods, Winchester, Va.; two brothers, William "Bill" White, Parsons, and Harry White, Elkins; four sisters, Lucille Armstead, Blacksburg, Va., Vallie Davis, Elkins, Elsie Massey, Trenton, N.J., and Mona Carr, Hendricks; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Charlie White; one half brother, Gordon Lambert; three sisters, her twin Lora White, Ruby Roberts and Geneva Abbott; one half sister, Marie Lambert; and one great-grandchild.
She attended the schools of Randolph County. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of God at Alpena and was formerly active in the Crystal Springs Community and the Randolph County Senior Center.

She was born Aug. 17, 1937, at Norton, the daughter of the late Otis Ray and Elsie Koon Helmick.
She was married to Billy L. White, who survives at Route 3, Belington.
Also surviving are three sons, Billy Joe White and wife, Deidre, of Belington, Terry White and wife, Darla, of Toledo, Ohio, and Scott Allen White of Toledo, Ohio; one daughter, Michelle Lynn Brittingham and husband, Michael, of Toledo, Ohio; one brother, Holly Goodwin of Madison; four sisters, Lucille Trembly of Portsmouth, Va., Mildred Bodkins, Baudette, Minn., Madeline Tenney of Ten Mile, and June Tenney of Norton; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers.
Mrs. White attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Beverly High School. She was a homemaker and attended the Whitmer Church of God.

Mary Gladys “Toots” White, 89, of Thomas, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003.
She was born Aug. 24, 1914, in Petersburg, the daughter of W.R. and Maudie Baker Luzier.
On Aug. 10, 1935, she married her husband of 68 years, Robert E. White of Thomas.
She is also survived by one brother, Arthur Zepp Luzier of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two godchildren, Tammy Hebb and Danny Pase; special grandchildren Toby and Tyler Hebb; nieces and nephews; and special neighbors Dan “Boone” and Carol Pase.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Ford, George, Lloyd, Hunt, Dave, Junior and Occran Glen Luzier; and one sister, Pearl “Pal” Luzier Hauser.
Mrs. White was a housewife and a member of Thomas United Methodist Church.

Paul A. White, 48, a resident of Weston, passed away at 4:55 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at the Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Weston. His death was unexpected.
He was born Aug. 10, 1955, in Elkins, the son of the late Dallas V. and Gertrude Day White.
Surviving is his companion, Leann Norman of Weston; two sons, Jacob Hunt of Rock Cave and Caleb White of Weston; two stepdaughters, Kathryn Norman of Jane Lew and Joanna Hunt of Buckhannon; one brother, Rickey White of Elkins; one sister, Shirley Kirkpatrick of Elkins; one sister-in-law, Peggy White of Elkins; and a stepgranddaughter, Taylor Shock.
Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Christy; and a brother, Dallas White Jr.
Paul was a graduate of Elkins High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a chef by Aladdin Food Service at West Virginia Wesleyan College at the time of his death.

Richard Allen “Dick” White, 55, a resident of Dailey, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 1, 2003, in the Davis Memorial Hospital emergency department.
He was born Jan. 18, 1948, in Elkins, the son of the late Gerald and Opal Clayton White.
He was married to Rebecca Gum White, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by a special companion, Glendine Stalnaker, and her sons, Clinton and Jeffrey. Also surviving are two sons, Richard Allen White Jr. of Niles, Ohio, and Matthew White of Warren, Ohio; one stepson, Jay White of Greenville, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Mark (Christina) Lee of Warren, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Gina Smith of Mill Creek and Janie Channell of Elkins; four brothers, Gerald White and Michael White, both of Warren, Ohio, and Dallas White and Stephen White, both of Elkins; one sister, Patricia Morris of Fulks Run, Va.; and 11 grandchildren, Austin, Alyssa, Brandon, Ashley, Kaylee, Dylan, Rebecca, Matthew, Nicholas, Nathan and Amanda.
Also preceding him in death was a granddaughter, Hope Lee.

Roy Jackson White, 76, a native of West Virginia, and a resident of Catalina Drive, Mooresville, N.C., departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville, N.C.
He was born on Nov. 29, 1926, at Horton, a son of the late Clarence W. White and Nettie Quarry White.
On Aug. 30, 1948, he was married to the former Eleanor Grace Talbott, who survives at Mooresville, N.C.
Also surviving are two sons, Mark Alan White and Jay Kevin White, both of Mooresville, N.C.; two sisters, Mildred E. Gutshall, Junior, and Bette L. Sainato, Tallmadge, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Marcus “Bud” White; and one sister, Mary E. Constable.
Mr. White was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and was a retired sales manager for Chevron, USA. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mooresville, N.C., and a 50-year member of the Belington Lodge 125, AF & AM.

Sarah Smith White, 95, a former resident of Route 2, Box 428-1, Elkins, and more recently a resident of Dillwyn, Va., departed this life Tuesday morning, July 29, 2003, at her residence. She had been in declining health for the past year and death was attributed to cancer.
She was born Thursday, Feb. 20,1908, at Wymer, a daughter of the late Robert Smith and Lucreti Lambert.
Surviving are one grandson, Tom Tingler, Dillwyn, Va.; one sister, Clora White; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Ezra Tingler; three brothers, Joseph, Robert and Steven Smith; two sisters, Anna Waybright and Floda Summerfield.
She attended the schools of Randolph County, and worked as a nurses’ aide at Davis Memorial Hospital.

Zettie Ann Knarr White, 82, a resident of 409 10th St., Elkins, departed this life Tuesday evening, June 3, 2003, at the Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1920, at Norton, a daughter of the late Orrin Knarr and Ida Miller Knarr.
On Aug. 31, 1941, she married Herschel G. White Sr., who preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1993, after 51 years of marriage.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Harry Dean (Mary L.) Jordan of Amherstdale; and one son, Herschel G. White II, and wife, Vickie, of Elkins; two sisters, Bertha Stemple of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center and Alice Johnson of McElhatten, Pa.; six grandchildren, Nicole, Justin and Christopher White of Elkins, Valerie Jordan of Pittsburgh, Pa., Lori McDaniels of Blacksburg, S.C., and David Boone of Gaffney, S.C., seven great-grandchildren, Joey, Zachery and Bailey McDaniels of Blacksburg, S.C., Mary and Amy Russell of Cheyenne, Wyo., Kristin and Ashley Moreland of Amherstdale; one sister-in-law, Kathleen Stonestreet of Petersburg; and one brother-in-law, Daniel J. White of Bunkerhill.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Knarr; and two brothers, Oscar and Glen Knarr.
She attended the schools of Tucker County. During World War II, she worked in Baltimore, Md., at the American Hammered Piston Ring Factory for 3 1/2 years. After returning to Elkins, she worked at the W.T. Grant Store for 24 years and at Kmart for 10 years, where she retired in 1985. In 1993, she became a member of the Foster Grandparent Program serving there for 10 years. She loved to work with children. She was a member of the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, had been a member of the administration board and was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center.

Catherine Whitescarver
Catherine Mae “Katy” Whitescarver, 88, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at her home.
She was born April 6, 1915, at Weston, a daughter of the late Addis and marjorie Strader Kiddy. She was united in marriage to J.F. “Deck” Whitescarver, who preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1988.
Surviving are two sons, Robert D. Whitescarver and wife, Pat, Gastonia, N.C., and David L. Whitescarver and wife, Ruth, Wexford, Pa.; one daughter, Karen Westfall and husband, David, West Monroe, La.; six grandchildren, Stephen Whitescarver, Diana Whitescarver Sowers, Barbara Westfall Powell, Michael Westfall, Eugene Whitescarver and Mark Whitescarver; eight great-grandchildren and a special caregiver, Marie Morgan. Also, many thanks to Susie Bender for the special help she has given to our mother.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ruth Thurman Circle, a member and past Worthy Matron of Chapter 18 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Marguerite Kisner “Peg” Widney, 86, a former resident of 7 Key St., Elkins, a resident of Good Samaritan for 6 1/2 years, and for the past two weeks, a patient of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, departed this life Friday afternoon, Jan. 31, 2003, at the center. She had been in declining health and her death was attributed to Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born Monday, March 6, 1916, in Durbin, a daughter of the late Lloyd E. Kisner Sr. and Edna Graham Kisner.
On Dec. 27, 1941, in Durbin, she was married to Dr. Franklin Jay Widney, who preceded her in death on July 6, 1995.
Surviving are two sons, Franklin Jay Widney II and wife, Doreen, Beverly, and R. Kevin Widney and wife, Leslie, Elkins; one daughter, Marsha Wehr and husband, Donald, Beverly; two brothers, L.E. “Dabney” Kisner Jr., Durbin, and William E. Kisner, Bartow; two sisters, Geraldine Lawton, LaPlatta, Md., and Pauline K. Mams, Elkins; three grandchildren, Robert Lloyd Storch, Jonathan Graham Storch and Kendra Beth Teter; and three great-grandchildren, Abigail Storch, Tyler Jay Storch and Garrett F. Storch.
She was preceded in death by one infant granddaughter, Michelle Lane Widney.
She attended the schools of Durbin, was a graduate of Green Bank High School with the class of 1934, and graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with the class of 1936. She had taught at the one-room schools of Pocahontas County for seven years, and had taught at the Durbin Grade School and served as principal of the school.
She was a 4-H leader for 54 years, and was a leader of the Hi-Fi 4-H Club for many years. She was past president of the 4-H Leaders and a 4-H all-star, and was one of the original founders of the 4-H Dog Obedience School. She was past member of the Elkins Women’s Club, a former Gray Lady of the Davis Memorial Hospital, former member of the Davis Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, former member of the Davis & Elkins College Aid, and had worked with the Meals on Wheels Program. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins, where she was a past president of the United Methodist Women, had served on the board of trustees, and was a member of Circle 6 of the Church. She loved to garden, raise flowers and farm.
Friends will be received at the First United Methodist Church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, with Dr. Ellis E. Conley officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at the Arbovale Cemetery at Arbovale, and interment will follow. Matthew G. Wilbert
Matthew Garnett Wilbert, 10, of Yorktown, Va., passed from this life into the glorious hereafter, where he will run and laugh and sing, on Friday, April 4, 2003, at home surrounded by his parents and people who love him, after a 20-month battle with a brain tumor. He was a brave and determined young man who never lost his spirit and drive to go on, even though his body was fighting his cancer.
He was born on March 26, 1993, in Virginia Beach, Va.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his family; parents, Daniel Doyle and Natalie Elaine Wilbert; his brother and best friend, Dillon Doyle Wilbert, who looked up to his brother as a brave and courageous role model; his maternal grandmother, Helen Arbogast of Harman; paternal great-grandmother, Josephine Doyle of North Smithfield, R.I.; paternal grandfather, Jack Wilbert of Ocean, N.J.; maternal aunt and uncle, Deanna and Randy Armentrout of Harman; paternal aunt, Maggie Harris of Dover Plains, N.Y.; paternal uncle, John Wilbert of Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.; along with a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ray Garnett Arbogast; and his paternal grandmother, Ritha Doyle Wilbert.
He was an outstanding student in the fourth grade at Grafton Bethel Elementary School and an active Cub Scout in Pack 200. He was baptized and attended Yorkminster Presbyterian Church. Thanks to all his teachers and church family who supported us through this time.
Visitations were held Monday in Armory Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Yorkminster Presbyterian Church today at 4 p.m. with the Revs. Feild and Jenny Russell officiating. Visitation will also be at Job Church of God Thursday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., immediately followed by a graveside service in Flanagan Memorial Cemetery conducted by Pastor Todd Rhodes.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of the Hem/Onc Clinic and the doctors and devoted nurses in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, especially Dr. Paulette Bryant for her devotion to Matthew, and our nurses who cared for Matthew at home. Also, York County EMS; and Edmarc Home Health Care for all their kindness and compassion during this difficult time.
Matthew made an impression on everyone he met and will be sorely missed by all, but will live on forever in our hearts.

Basil O. Wilfong
Basil Oden Wilfong, 66, a resident of Weston, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 4, 1936, in Buckhannon, he was the son of the late Herbert “Hib” and Ethel Wilfong.
He is survived by one son, Leslie Wilfong and daughter-in-law, Kelley, of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Anna and Andrew Wilfong of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Jessie Smith and Delorse Tenney, both of Buckhannon; and 10 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dayton Wilfong.
Mr. Wilfong attended the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Weston, retired from the Weston State Hospital and was a veteran of the Army. He was a chaplain for American Legion Post 13 of Clarksburg and a board member of the Lewis County Senior Citizens Center.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Weston. Hubert B. Wilfong, 83, of Circleville, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003, at the home of his adopted family, George and Ruth Adkins of Cherry Grove.

Linda S. Wilfong
Linda Sue Wilfong, 48, a resident of Route 1, Montrose, the Leading Creek Road, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2003. Her death was unexpected.
She was born Nov. 9, 1954, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Sewell Ward Wilfong and Wilma Vanscoy Wilfong.
She was never married.
She is survived by seven brothers, Leroy Wilfong and wife, Bessie, Neil Wilfong and wife, Ruby, Duane Wilfong and wife, Shirley, all of Montrose, Dale Wilfong and wife, Debbie, of Glenmore, Eddie Wilfong and wife, Betty, Joe Wilfong and wife, Sarah, and Danny Wilfong, all of Montrose; five sisters, Shelva Lagatta and husband, Pete, of Escondia, Calif., Carol Rosier and husband, Willard of Montrose, Trudy Rexrode and husband, Gary “Doc” Rexrode of Route 2, Elkins, Faye Nesbitt and husband, Rick, of Montrose, and Shelia Workman and husband, Myles “Pork” Workman of Lincolnton, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a self-employed housekeeper for many families in the Elkins area. She enjoyed helping people and spending time with children.
At her request, her remains were donated to the Human Gift Registry for medical research at Morgantown. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. The Rev. Donald L. Lockhart will officiate. Paul G. Wilfong, 88, of Rock Cave, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at his home.
He was born June 15, 1915, at Whitmer, the son of the late Oscar P. and Olive E. Miller Wilfong.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Brake Wilfong.
Also suriviving are one daughter, Elaine Cool and husband, Frank, of Rock Cave; two sons, Pat Wilfong and wife, Brenda, of Monticello, Fla., and Roger Wilfong and wife, Niska, of Rock Cave; one granddaughter, Tina Torrance, of Monticello, Fla.; two great-granddaughters, Megan and Karlyn Torrance, both of Monticello, Fla.; one stepgranddaughter, Lisa Dean Mossburg, of Huntington; and one brother, Frank Wilfong, of Waynesburg, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Carl G. Wilfong.
Mr. Wilfong was a retired elementary school teacher and builder.

Robert Blair Wilfong, 64, a native of Elkins and more recently a resident of 2101 44th St. East, Tuscaloosa, Ala., departed this life late Tuesday evening, June 24, 2003, at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He had been in declining health for the past three years.
He was born Sunday, Feb. 5, 1939, at Elkins, the son of the late Elmer Leslie Wilfong and Clara May Washburn Wilfong.
On April 26, 1986, in Tuscaloosa County, Ala., he was married to the former Shelby Jean Skelton, who survives at Tuscaloosa.
Also surviving are one son; one daughter; two stepsons, Kiran and Gregg Wyatt, both of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one brother, Dewey Wilfong, Parsons; and two stepgrandchildren, Austin and Kayla Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Gray, Franklin and Eugene Wilfong; and one sister, Dolly L. Roy.
Mr. Wilfong was a graduate of Elkins High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Open Door Baptist Church at Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Ada Pearl "Granny" Swisher Williams, 85, a resident of Parsons, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Aug. 6, 2003, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mabel and Scott Hovatter. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to heart and respiratory failure.
She was born Feb. 13, 1918, at Bretz in Preston County, a daughter of the late Clarence Swisher and Lillian Roach Swisher.
In 1934, she was married to Cecil Williams, who preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 1979.
Surviving are two sons, Dorsey Williams and wife, Margaret, of Pifer Mountain, and Robert Williams and wife, Georgia, of Elkins; three daughters, Mabel Hovatter and husband, Scott, Rickie Nestor and husband, Ralph, all of St. George, and Thelma Williams and husband, Don, of Pelham, Ala.; two brothers, Harold Swisher and wife, Madelyn, of Grafton, and Woodrow Swisher of Thornton; seven granddaughters, Ruby Kelly, Teresa Smith, Lisa Stevens, Tammy Fusco, Judy Carpenter, B.J. and Cindy Williams; two grandsons, Donald Williams and Ricky Nestor; and 15 great-grandchildren, Luke Stevens, Melissa Kelly, Randy Kelly, Erika, Kimberly and Devin Smith, Bethany and Zach Williams, Elizabeth and Tony Fusco, Dale, Scotty and Chad Carpenter, and Scottie and Heather Williams.
She is preceded in death by one grandson, Dorsey WIlliams Jr.; three brothers, Harold, Bill and Russell Swisher; and one infant sister.
She worked for several years at a canning factory in Grafton and was a homemaker. She loved to can, cook and bake and was a loving mother. She baby-sat for several children and loved each one of them. They became her family and they knew her as "Granny." She was a former member of the Church of the Brethren and enjoyed her visits from Pastor Robert Leard and Pastor James Ellis.

Mabel M. Williams
Mabel Melinda Rader Williams, 90, a former resident of Mill Creek and a resident of Belington, passed away at 4:33 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at her residence.
She was born July 12, 1912, at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Glen and Deborah Rader.
In 1929, she was married to the Rev. Foster Williams Sr., who preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1988.
She is survived by four sons, Carp Williams and wife, Phyllis, of Kerens, Marshall Ray Williams and wife, Nancy, of Mill Creek, Foster Gay Williams II and wife, Sue, Harding, and Johnny Paul Williams and wife, Margie, of Belington; one son-in-law, Wayne Bohon of Bridgeport; three daughters, Betty Jean Dedie, Newton Falls, Ohio, Mrs. Donald (Maryn Gay) Shaw of Mill Creek, and Mrs. Bill (Rachell) Lane of Belington; one daughter-in-law, Delores Williams of Coalton; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Creta) Louk of Belington; 37 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Daisy Currence of Mabie, Violet Hodges of Buckhannon, and Mary Jane Williams of Wheeling; one brother-in-law, Ted Williams of Elkins, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were four sons, Carroll, Arnold, Dana and Ernie Williams; two daughters, Thelma Mae McCauley Beck and Norma Bohon; five brothers, Nyal, Gail, Elmer, Jimmy and Cecil Rader; and five sisters, Bessie Chewning, Ruby Cutright, Exie Fanning, Hazel Rutherford and Gladys Rader.
Mrs. Williams was one of the oldest members of the Memorial Mission Church at Mill Creek, having helped start the first Vacation Bible School. She attended numerous churches in Barbour County with the Rev. Williams, where she loved to sing during services.

Margaret E. Williams, 103, a former resident of 104 Pleasant Ave., Elkins, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 18, 2003, in the Marietta Center, Marietta, Ohio.
She was born May 5, 1899, at Green County, Pa., a daughter of the late Harry S. and Viola L. Riggs Griffith.
She was married to Ira Robinson, who preceded her in death in 1950. She later married Frank Williams, who preceded her in death in 1970.
She is survived by one son, Dewey Neal Robinson of Belpre, Ohio; two brothers, Sam Griffith of Gilman, and Doyle Griffith of Marietta, Ga. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, two daughters, two brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Williams was retired and had worked as a home health care provider. She was a Protestant by faith.
Friends may call at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins Friday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Mrs. Williams will then be moved to Maplewood Cemetery, where graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mildred Williams
Mildred Williams, 67, of Kenner, La., passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at the Life Care Hospital in Kenner.
She was born July 15, 1936, in Holden, the daughter of the late Jasper and Anna Mae Chafin Browning.
She is survived by her husband, Wilson Williams; two sons, John Williams of Marietta, Ga., and Tom Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Lisa Mayo, Dalton, Ga., and Rebecca Osborne, Peachtree City, Ga.; three brothers, John, Jim and Aaron Browning, all of Chapmanville; two sisters, Violet Mick, Grafton, and Ruth Anderson, Chapmanville; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Williams retired from the school system where she worked in the cafeteria.
Friends were received at the Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and today from 10 a.m. to noon, the funeral hour. A graveside service, with the Rev. Nestor E. Williams
Nestor E. Williams, 87, of Rock Cave, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Parkersburg.
He was born March 13, 1916, at Rock Cave, a son of the late Roy and Eula Riffle Williams.
He was united in marriage in 1940, to Edith Collins Williams, who survives in Parkersburg.
He is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Alkire of Huntsville, Ala., Brenda Finnerin, with whom he and Edith were residing with in Parkersburg, and Betsy Harnden of Beverly; four grandchildren, Todd Alkire, Eric Finnerin, Ashlea Morrow and Laura Dye; three great-grandchildren, Brandon and Meghan Alkire and Jimmy Morrow; and two sisters, Margaret Chapman of Columbus, Ohio, and Mildred McKisic of Adrian.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Williams.
Mr. Williams served in the CCCs at Camp Thornwood before moving to Elkins and starting his own automotive repair business. He retired to his Christmas tree farm in Rock Cave where he lived for the past 22 years. He was an active member of the Elkins Pilots Club and was very industrious and inventive. He enjoyed generating his own electrical power with solar and wind mill.

Ralph Edward Williams, 55, of Route 2, Box 16, Pickens, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, in Davis Memorial Hospital .
He was born July 2, 1948, in Silica, the son of the late James Williams and Eula Chidester Williams.
Surviving are three daughters, Linda Russell and husband, Matt, of French Creek, Beth Brown and husband, Jeremy, of French Creek, and Lisa Williams of Buckhannon; five brothers, Gaylor Williams of French Creek, Robert Williams of Adrian, James Herbert Williams of Grafton, Paul Junior Williams of Alexander and Cecil Williams of French Creek; three sisters, Kathy Eskew of French Creek, JoAnn Casto of Tallmansville, and Ruby Williams of Grafton; three grandsons, Saban Wagner of Buckhannon, Ethan Russell of French Creek and Jeremy Brown II of French Creek; three granddaughters, Taylor Brown of French Creek, Dakota Russell of French Creek and Orryah Wagner of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Heath; and one half brother, Arden Nethken.
Mr. Williams was a bulldozer operator and a Methodist by faith.

Reba Jean Williams, 45, of Eglon, passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at her home.
She was born Sept. 13, 1958, in Oakland, Md., the daughter of the late John Lewis Mullenax and Cora Marie Rhodes Barlow who survives.
She is also survived by her husband, Richard C. Williams; two daughters, Rachel and Rebecca Ann Williams, at home; one stepson, Jonathan R. Williams of Eglon; four stepdaughters, Sandy Kohls and Regina Banks, both of Dallas, Texas, Christine Limbrick and Christal Drake, both of Fairmont; four sisters, Helen Roth of Eglon, Barbara Evans of St. George, Virginia Dixon of Amboy and Betty Slaubaugh of Morgantown; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and very active in the community.

Raymond L. Wilmoth
Raymond Lee Wilmoth, 78, a resident of 206 River Road in Belington, departed this life at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003, at his home. He had been in declining health for quite sometime but death was unexpected.
He was born May 27, 1924, at Belington, the Audra community, the son of the late Boyd D. and Bertha Stella Haack Wilmoth.
On Oct. 30. 1948, at Oakland, Md., he was united in marriage to the former Kathleen Armentrout, who survives at their home in Belington.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Kenny Wilmoth and wife, Cassie, of Belington; three daughters, Brenda Wilmoth of Belington, Denise Stalnaker and husband, Charles, of Weston, and Cheryl Taylor and husband, Jim, of Belington; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Clarence Wilmoth of Tallmadge, Ohio, and Earl Wilmoth of Belington; three sisters, Betty Steffon of Fairview, Ohio, Norma Wilmoth of Lakewood, Ohio, and Irene Collins of Sterling, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Arley, Don, Robert and Roy Wilmoth.
Mr. Wilmoth was a graduate of Belington High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was the former owner-operator of Wilmoth Lumber in Belington and was the former owner-operator for 16 years of the Dodge garage in Belington known as Wilmoth Auto Supply until 1979. At that time he became a used car dealer operating in Nutter Fort for the rest of his working life.
Mr. Wilmoth was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 410 in Belington, was also a member of the Belington Masonic Lodge 125 AF&AM, and was a Shriner belonging to the Osiris Temple in Wheeling.
He was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and on Sunday until 1 p.m., the funeral hour when services will be conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Bryan Headley officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery at Belington where the Belington Masonic Lodge will conduct graveside ritualistic services and the presentation of the American flag will be conducted by the American Legion Post 44 of Philippi. Caroline Wilson
Nancy Caroline Brady Wilson, 95, a resident of 109 High St., Elkins, died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at home. She had been in declining health for the past few months.
Surviving are two children, Grace Wilson Sundelin of Elkins and Merritt Wilson III of Pittsburgh, Pa. Andrew Wilson Sundelin, her only grandchild, survives in Denver, Colo. A niece, Nancy Brady Haught of Charleston, also survives her.
One brother, Dr. A. Spates Brady, and one sister, Mary Brady Wills, preceded her in death.
She was born in Fairmont on July 21, 1908, the daughter of the late A. Spates Brady and Grace Mabie Brady.
She moved with her family to Elkins around 1922. Her mother died when she was a small child.
Mrs. Wilson was a graduate of the Grier School in Tyrone, Pa., and attended Wellesley College. She was a student teacher at Taylor-Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh and graduate from the Pennsylvania College for Women, now known as Chatham College, with a degree in French. Later she pursued post-graduate studies at Butler University in Indianapolis.
She was married to the late Merritt Wilson Jr. on June 21, 1934. During World War II, she moved with her husband to Guatemala City, Guatemala, where her family resided for three years. She became fluent in Spanish while living in Guatemala and traveled extensively throughout Central and South America.
In 1947, the family moved to Indianapolis, Ind., where she became active in the Second Presbyterian Church. Upon returning to Elkins in 1962, Mrs. Wilson became a substitute Spanish teacher for Randolph County schools and was active in the Elkins Civic Association.
An avid outdoorswoman, she kept active gardening, swimming and biking into her mid-80s.
She was a longtime member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Brooks Bird Club, the West Virginia Highlands Conservancy as well as a number of other environmental and conservation groups.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the family home at 109 High St. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Donald Wilson
Donald Wilson, 86, a resident of Route 4, Mansfield Addition, Philippi, passed away at 6:25 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born Aug. 3, 1917, at Taylor Drain, Barbour County, the son of the late George R. and Lillie C. Phillips Wilson.
He was united in marriage on Nov. 23, 1949, to the former Glenna Finnelle, who preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1959.
Surviving are two sisters, Sevva Stone of St. Charles, Mo., and Virginia Proudfoot of Baltimore, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, June Price.
Mr. Wilson was a retired construction worker. He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre.
He was a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 175, 132 Operating Engineers, and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3560.
He was a Protestant by faith.

Edna Geneva Wilson, 87, a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, formerly of Johnson Avenue, Belington, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in the Good Samaritan Center after an extended illness.
She was born June 18, 1915, at Junior, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Georgia Cross.
Her husband, Coontz Wilson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Williamson, and Mogadore, Ohio, Douglas Williamson, Parkersburg; two sisters, Minnie Mae and Gertrude, both in Oregon; three grandchildren, T.G. Williamson, Robin Williamson and Traci Walbrown; three great-grandchildren, Jason Walbrown, Kendall Walbrown and Krystyna Williamson.
She was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker. She was an avid gardener and was remembered for her cooking and baking.

Gale R. Wilson
Gale R. Wilson, 62, of Route 2, Nestorville community, Philippi, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2003, at his residence from an apparent heart attack.
He was born Sept. 2, 1940, at Thornton, a son of the late Delbert R. and Ruby B. (Bolyard) Wilson.
He was united in marriage on July 31, 1960, to the former Rita Carol Miller, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Carol Lynn and husband, James Harris, Junior; one son, Randall Gale “Radar” Wilson, at home; two brothers, Dale Wilson, Moatsville, and Fred Wilson, Philippi; two grandsons, Brett Harris and Ramie Harris.
He was employed by Sunrise Construction as a truck driver. He was a member of the Eastern Barbour Lions Club. He was a member of the New Hope Valley United Methodist Church.

Herbert Kermit Wilson, 89, a resident of Hambleton, departed this life Saturday morning, Aug. 2, 2003, at his home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to an aneurysm.
He was born April 28, 1914, at Parsons, a son of the late Clarence Wilson and Clara Pennington Wilson.
He was twice married, first to the former Hardena Humphrey and then to the former Woneda Kerner, both having preceded him in death.
Surviving are five daughters, Joan Wilson Meade of Boone County, Louise "Sissie" Baulderstone and husband, Keith, of Painesville, Ohio, Minnie Thomas Sponaugle and husband, Robert, of Parsons, Lulu Mary Wilson and Martha Jo Wilson, both of Hambleton; one son, Howard Lee Thomas; 10 grandchildren, Willard Wilson, Martha Jo Gardner, Joyce E. Carr Walch, Randy G. Way, Crystal Thomas, Herbert Thomas, Bailey Thomas, Fallon and Katelyn Sponaugle and Destaney Wilson; six great-grandchildren, Cheryl Rosier, Melissa Carr, Bobby Rosier, Larry Jo Walch, Joshua Way and Natasha Way Vanik; and two great-great-grandchildren, Linnsey Marie Roy and Lara Jo Carr.
He was preceded in death by three children, two infant sons and one daughter, Margie Marie Wilson; five brothers, Fred Wilson, Howard Colett, Carl Wilson, Raymond Wilson and Bill Wilson; and seven sisters, Blanch Lazell, Louise Harper, Dessie Harper, Stella Mason, Isabelle Harper, Armitta Sponaugle and Minnie Odell.
He attended the one-room school at Fork Mountain. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corp. and was an employee of the former Parsons Tannery as a leather puller for 33 years until he retired.

He was twice married, first to the former Hardena Humphrey and then to the former Woneda Kerner, both having preceded him in death.
Surviving are five daughters, Joan Wilson Meade of Boone County, Louise "Sissie" Baulderstone and husband, Keith, of Painesville, Ohio, Minnie Thomas Sponaugle and husband, Robert, of Parsons, Lulu Mary Wilson and Martha Jo Wilson, both of Hambleton; two sisters, Hazel Poling and husband, Gaston, and Francis "Pete" Mason, all of Fork Mt., Parsons; one son, Howard Lee Thomas; 10 grandchildren, Willard Wilson, Martha Jo Gardner, Joyce E. Carr Walch, Randy G. Way, Crystal Thomas, Herbert Thomas, Bailey Thomas, Fallon and Katelyn Sponaugle and Destaney Wilson; six great-grandchildren, Cheryl Rosier, Melissa Carr, Bobby Rosier, Larry Jo Walch, Joshua Way and Natasha Way Vanik; and two great-great-grandchildren, Linnsey Marie Roy and Lara Jo Carr.
He was preceded in death by three children: two infant sons and one daughter, Margie Marie Wilson; five brothers, Fred Wilson, Howard Colett, Carl Wilson, Raymond Wilson and Bill Wilson; and seven sisters, Blanch Lazell, Louise Harper, Dessie Harper, Stella Mason, Isabelle Harper, Armitta Sponaugle and Minnie Odell.
He attended the one-room school at Fork Mountain. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps and was an employee of the former Parsons Tannery as a leather puller for 33 years until he retired.
Funeral services were held at noon today at the Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home. Pastor Gloria Roy and Pastor William McCallister officiated and interment followed in Parsons City Cemetery. James Oscar “Jessie” Wilson, 65, of Pocahontas Street, Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.
He was born Nov. 8, 1937, the son of the late Charles Robert Wilson and Vesta G. Long Wilson, who survives at Rock Cave.
In addition to his mother, he is also survived by two sons, James Jay Wilson of Akron, Ohio, and Donald A. Wilson of East Moline, Ill.; one daughter, Maureen Wilson Bender of Akron, Ohio; two sisters, Barbara Kay Wilson of Cleveland, Ohio, and Deborah A. Wilson of Cleveland, Ohio; three brothers, Ronald G. Wilson of Buckhannon, and David A. Wilson and Charles W. Wilson, both of Weston.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Lynn Wilson.
Mr. Wilson graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a lifelong member of the Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church.

William F. “Bill” Wilson
William F. “Bill” Wilson, 76, a former resident of Elkins and longtime radio and television personality, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans, La., of complications from pneumonia.
He worked at WDNE radio station in Elkins for three years and was a newscaster, announcer, salesman and finally general manager.
Wilson subsequently became an announcer for the WWL-TV television station in New Orleans in 1957, where he served in various capacities for 28 years. He was a host to many television programs and commercials which received national distribution.
He was a member of the American Legion, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and other organizations.
He was born May 23, 1926, at Mount Hope. He graduated from Ronceverte High School in 1944 and entered the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he entered Davis & Elkins College and graduated in 1950.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Rita Rice of Elkins; three sons, two daughters, two brothers, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at noon Feb. 1 in New Orleans.  From 8 Feb 2003.

Thelma L. Wimer
Thelma Lee Elmore Wimer, 91, of West Farmington, Ohio, and formerly of Elkins, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at 12:17 p.m. in the Community Skilled Nursing Centre in Warren, Ohio.
She was born July 20, 1911, at Glady, a daughter of Dennis Thompson and Leoma Rhodes.
She was twice married. First, she married Harvey Elmore, who preceded her in death on June 17, 1967. Second, she married Russell Wimer, who preceded her in death in October 1985.
Surviving are one son, Eugene W. Elmore, West Farmington, Ohio; one daughter, Leoma June Rosenberger, Warren, Ohio; one brother, Alma Crawford, Coalton; one sister, Alma Crawford, Coalton; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers and one sister.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and cooking.

Virginia D. Wimer
Virginia Dale Wimer, 78, of Walkersville, passed away Monday, March 24, 2003, at her home.
She was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Hartzell, Mo., the daughter of the late Daniel and Virginia Bell McKisic Wilfong.
On March 29, 1947, she was married to Elmer T. Wimer, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Katheryn “Katie” Robinson and husband, Roscoe, of Walkersville, and Virginia “Fern” Watson of Ireland; one grandson, Daniel A. Queen and family of Ireland; and one granddaughter, Sherry Simons, and great-grandson Dakota Thorn Simon, both of Atlantic, Iowa.
In addition, she is survived by a special niece and nephew, Catherine Kennedy of Elkview and John Peter Solamon of Tavores, Fla.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The Wimers owned and operated Wimer’s Feed Store in Walkersville and were the proud owners of the beautiful Belted Buelingo cattle, being the first in the state of West Virginia.
Mrs. Wimer was a 37-year faithful member of the Straight Fork Community Educational Outreach Service and a graduate of Walkersville High School.
Mrs. Wimer operated Wimer’s Greenhouse at the farm on McCord Run.
She was one of the founding organizers of the Mission Independent Church at Walkersville, she loved gospel music and Christian fellowship, and attended Straight Fork United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Robert M. Vincent Funeral Home at French Creek today from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Kevin Bender officiating. Willie C. Wimer
Willie Clinton “Clint” Wimer, 92, of Cherry Grove, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Nella’s Nursing Home in Crystal Springs.
He was born Feb. 24, 1911, at Hunting Ground, a son of the late Tiberius Wimer and Cora Ellen Thompson Wimer.
He was a retired mail carrier and a school bus driver for Pendleton County Schools. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a past member of Spruce Knob VFW Post 2370 and a Methodist by faith. He was a farmer.
On June 9, 1945, he married Ethel Jane Vandevander Wimer, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Curtis G. Wimer of Parsons; and two grandsons, Paul and Philip Wimer of Parsons.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin with graveside military services conducted by members of the Pendleton County Veterans honor guard. Roger L. Winans
Roger Lee Winans, 54, of Cumberland, Md., passed away Monday, April 7, 2003. He had been in declining health for the past year and death was attributed to cancer.
He was born July 13, 1948, in Elkins,
He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Winans of Elkins.
Surviving are his mother, Mary L. Winans of Elkins; his wife, Bernetta M. Winans of Cumberland, Md.; two daughters, Katrina Wysong and husband, Cory, of Tampa, Fla., and Renata Winans; and a special friend, Juan Perez of Tampa, Fla.; one son, Travis Winans of Cumberland, Md.; and two grandchildren, Leighton Winans and Dezianna Winans of Cumberland, Md.
Also surviving are three brothers, Edward “P-Nut” Winans of Elkins, Richard Winans of Elkins, and Robert B. Winans and wife, Tonya, of Elkins; four nephews, Chad E. Winans and wife, Jennifer, of Elkins, Justin Winans of North Carolina, and Dylan and Erik Winans of Elkins; and one great-nephew, Isaac E. Winans of Elkins.
Mr. Winans graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1966. After high school, he joined the Army for four years and served in the Korean Conflict.
He was also an employee of the CSX Railroad, where he worked as conductor for 30 years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a Pittsburgh Steeler fan.
He devoted the past 2 1/2 years of his life with Chaplain Rider serving the Lord and leading others to him. He was a Baptist by faith.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel Friday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel at 3:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. Anna Lee Winemiller, 94, of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Home and formerly of the Hinkleville community, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at the Barbour County Good Samaritan Home.
She was born May 3, 1909, at Adrian, a daughter of the late John and Stella Brady Smallridge.
She was married to Jeff William Winemiller on March 6, 1927, who preceded her in death in May 1963.
She is survived by one daughter, JoAnne Elbon of Hinkleville; two sons, John William Winemiller of Hinkleville and Ronnie Winemiller of Buckhannon; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, three brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Winemiller was a past noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge of Adrian. She was a member of the Adrian United Methodist Church.

Alice Lew Wonn Wisner, 80, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 17, 2003.
She was born Feb. 3, 1923 in Elkins, the daughter of the late Roy E. Wonn and Aileen Keim Wonn. On May 14, 1949, in Elkins, she was married to John Elwood Wisner, who preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1991.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah W. and son-in-law, Bruce Kenneth Bunger, of Louisville, Ky.; and one sister-in-law, Norma L. Wisner of Elkins.
Preceding her in death was one brother, William R. Wonn.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School and attended Madison College in Harrisonburg, Va. She was a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, and was a former volunteer for the Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Maplewood Cemetery in Elkins. The Rev. Jeff Falter and the Rev. Fred Valentine will officiate. Teresa "Beth" Wolfe, 34, of Horse Shoe Run, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born Nov. 29, 1968, in Kingwood, a daughter of Bonnie Wiles Johnson, of Kingwood, and the late James Huie Johnson.
She was a member of Maple Grove Assembly of God Church and was active with the youth group. She graduated from East Preston High School with the class of 1987. She attended the Mon Tech Center, Morgantown, receiving a licensed practical nursing degree. She was employed by Preston-Taylor Community Health Service at the Eglon Clinic. She was a member of the Aurora PTO, ladies auxiliary Mt. Grove VFD, and Mt. Top Cruisers. She was active with the Aurora Youth League sports program.
She is also survived by her husband, Harlin Wolfe Jr. of Horse Shoe Run; one son, Harlin Zachary Wolfe at home; a sister, Melissa and husband, Thomas Porta, of Hallowell, Maine; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harlin and Diane Wolfe of Horse Shoe Run; a sister-in-law, Melissa and husband, Wayne Mullenax, of Horse Shoe Run; and four nieces, DaLee and Jenna Cramer of Hallowell, Maine, and Heather and Kelsey Mullenax of Horse Shoe Run.
She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Scott and Edna Wiles; and her paternal grandparents, John Bryan Johnson and Macie Johnson Long.

Virginia Wolfe
Virginia Liggett Hickerson Wolfe, 89, a former resident of 219 Elm St. in Elkins and more recently a resident of Valentine’s Personal Care Home, departed this life Monday afternoon, Oct. 6, 2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health.
She was born Friday, April 10, 1914, at Beverly, the daughter of the late Charles Edwin Hickerson and Bessie Reese Shoemaker Hickerson. On April 19, 1947, at Piedmont, she was married to George Ferdinand Wolfe Jr., who preceded her in death Nov. 25, 1962.
Surviving are one daughter, the Rev. Dr. Nancy Wolfe Holt and husband, the Rev. Charles R. Holt of Landsdowne, Pa.; one sister, Elizabeth Pentz of Chester, Pa.; three grandsons, Chad Holt of Pittsburgh, Scott Holt of Ardmore Pa., and Kevin Holt and wife, Kim, of West Chester, Pa.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were one brother, Charles E. Hickerson, Jr., and one sister, Mary Ellen Poffenberger.
Virginia received her bachelor of science degree from Madison State Teacher’s College, now known as James Madison University, and was a graduate of the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing at Cumberland, Md. She was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army Nursing Corps. She was also a school teacher, having taught home economics at Davis High School and later teaching nursing at the Davis Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebekahs, the Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center, the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Fred Wolford
Fred Wolford, 76, a resident of Dryfork, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at the home of his daughter, Mildred, and son-in-law, Cleve Bonner.
Born May 26, 1926, in Harman, he was the son of the late Branson Wolford and Margie Day.
On February 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to the former Mae Rea Lambert, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Cleve “Mildred” Bonner of Dryfork and Sandra Pelley and companion, Robert Blendict, of Scio, Ohio; one son, Keith Wolford of Springfield, Ohio; two half brothers, Jim Wolford of Harman and Bill Leggett and wife, Cheryl, of Knoxville, Ohio; and three half sisters, Betty Latiner of Mineral City, Ohio, Eva Stinger of North Canton, Ohio, and Marie Gothe of Akron, Ohio. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were one son, Richard Wolford, and several half brothers and half sisters.
Fred was a stationary engineer, and was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at the Koch Funeral home in Scio, Ohio, on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Graveside services will be held at the Perrysville Cemetery in Perrysville at 11 a.m. The Rev. Zimmerman will officiate. Interment will follow.

Alfred R. Wood
Alfred R. Wood, 81, a former resident of Mingo and a patient in Rosewood Nursing Home in Grafton, passed away Friday, April 18, 2003, in the Grafton City Hospital.
He was born Dec. 29, 1921, at Norton, the son of the late Norval and Viva Kisamore Wood.
He had never married. Surviving are two brothers, Clarence Wood and wife, Della, of Mingo, and Clark “Kelly” Wood and wife, Helen, of Akron, Ohio; and two sisters, Virginia Conrad and husband, Keith, of Lake Charles, La., and Bertha Allman and husband, Maurice, of Philippi.
A sister-in-law, Addie Canfield Wood of Three Churches and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Also preceding him in death were one brother, Hubert Wood, and an infant sister, Mamie Mae Wood.
Mr. Wood attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School.
He was employed as a bookkeeper for Southern States Cooperative for 38 years prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Mingo Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, and was a former member of the Lions Club.

Archie K. Wood
Archie K. Wood, 95, of Mingo, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood.
He was born Jan. 1, 1908, at Mingo, the son of the late John Moore and Stella Mace Wood.
He graduated from Tygarts Valley High School, retired from the Department of Highways and was most recently active as a farmer.
Mr. Wood was a lifelong member of the Mingo Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and trustee. He was also a trustee of the Mingo Cemetery. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Wood is survived by one sister-in-law, Doris Wood of Mingo; five nephews, John Copeman II of Boiling Springs Lake, N.C., Donald Wood Jr. of Mill Creek, Ronald Wood of Charlotte, N.C., John Taylor of Mingo and John Copeman III of Wilmington, N.C.; and seven nieces, Vicky Graham, Joyce Taylor, Lindsey Graham and Whitney Graham, all of Kingwood, Rebecca Sperandio of Core, Sandra Crites of Mansfield, Ohio, and Stephanie Gilbert of Winnabow, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Gwendolyn Ward Wood; three brothers, Andrew Wood, Ellis Wood and Donald Wood; and one sister, Winifred Andrews.

Brady D. Wooddell
Brady Durward Wooddell, 83, of Yorktown, Va., passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003.
A native of Nitro, he was a peninsula resident since 1940.
Mr. Wooddell retired from NASA in 1979 as an engineer technician with 36 years of service. He was an avid golfer and hunter and liked to tinker with cars.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Yorktown, Va.
Mr. Wooddell is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Wooddell; one daughter, Alice Wooddell Kelly and her husband, Colin, of Grafton, Va.; two sons, Walter L. Wooddell and his wife, Pamela, of Wilmington, N.C.; Brady L. Wooddell and his wife, Cathryn, of Yorktown, Va.; two sisters, Vivian Ackerman of Cockeyville, Md.; Dorothy Walden of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Paul H. Wooddell of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren, Brad, Matthew, Morgan T. and Kendall M. Wooddell, and Kinsey Hall.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. today in St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Davis officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the St. Luke’s United Methodist church, 300 Ella Taylor Road, Yorktown, Va. 23692. Amory Funeral Home of Grafton, Va., is handling the arrangements. Dora S. Woodford
Dora S. Woodford, 96, a resident of 346 S. Main St., Philippi, passed away June 30, 2003, at Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care.
She was born Dec. 7, 1906, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late William F. and Ida C. (Golden) Daughtery.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Shirely J. and husband, Donald Marsh, Moatsville; one son, James E. Stone, Philippi; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry J. Stone in February 1963, and Goodloe Woodford in June 1976; one daughter, Barbara Ann Cochran; five sisters and three brothers.
She was a housewife and worked 25 years with the Senior Companion Program. She was a member of the Philippi Baptist Church.
Friends were received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi Tuesday and today until 11 a.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Dr. Darl Docterman and the Rev. Richard Hepler officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.  From 2 Jul 2003.

Dana E. Woods
Dana Edward Woods, 48, a former resident of Elkins and a resident of Winchester, Va., passed away at 1:10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, in Cumberland Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to health failure due to complications from an automobile accident.

Also surviving are one nephew, Kevin Edward Hosford of Herndon, Va; and five nieces, Elizabeth Anne and Catherine Frances Hosford, both of Herndon, Va., and Paige Nicole, Lacey Marie and Rylee Jordan Conrad, all of Mill Creek.
Dana was a 1973 graduate of Elkins High School and a 1977 graduate of Glenville State College where he earned his bachelor of arts degree in education. In 1989, he received his master of arts degree in education from West Virginia University.
From 1978 through 1987, he was employed by Randolph County Schools at Midland Elementary School, Third Ward Elementary School and Elkins High School.
In 1988, he moved to Huntington, where he was employed by Cabell County Schools at Huntington East High School as an autism instructor.
Dana returned to Elkins in 1988 to become an instructor and later an educational coordinator for the Darby School.
In 1992, he worked for Upshur County Schools at Central Elementary School in the behavioral disorders class.
In 1997, he was recognized as Teacher of the Year by the Upshur County Association for Retarded Citizens for his creative teaching policies. In 2000, he become involved with Home Base Inc., an Upshur County-based group home.
In 2001, Dana transferred to Marion County where he worked with autistic children. At the time of his death he was employed by Herndon Elementary School as a special education instructor.
He taught numerous college courses and workshops for various colleges throughout West Virginia.
He was involved with the West Virginia Special Olympics and the Council for Exceptional Children, and was a former member of the board of directors for the Potomac Diagnostic Center in Romney and the Huntington Area Society for Autistic Children in Huntington.
He was recognized as one of the most outstanding teachers in his field.
A tribute to Dana’s life will be conducted along with viewing hours on Wednesday after 6 p.m. at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel. At the request of the deceased, the remains will be cremated after the tribute. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested that memorial donations be made in Dana’s name to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Dana Edward Woods.  From 12 Aug 2003.

Frances V. Woods
Frances V. Woods, 91, a resident of Dent Street, Elkins, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, in the emergency department of the Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in her usual health and death was unexpected.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, however, a private funeral service will be held. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Frances V. Woods.  From 8 Feb 2003.

Frances Woods
Frances Violet Kemp Updike Woods, 91, a resident of 13 Dent St., Elkins, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, in the emergency department of Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 27, 1911, at Dobbins, the daughter of the late John Andrew and Harriet Jane Durst Kemp.
She was twice married. On June 26, 1934, she married Harold Updike, who preceded her in death in 1938. On Aug. 25, 1942, she was married to Byron Woods, who preceded her in death in 1999.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Lee Updike Woods Carlson of Fairmont, and Harriet Jane Woods, who resided with Mrs. Woods; three grandchildren, Kari Carlson of Clarksburg, Angelina Carlson of Houston, Texas, and John Carlson of Fairmont; two nephews, John English, Warren, Ohio, and Robert Kemp of Maryland; and two nieces, Janet Kemp and Rose Marie Kemp, both of Los Angeles, Calif.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Elmer and Clarence Kemp; and two sisters, Nettie English and Carrie Kemp; four nephews, Franklin English, John, Hubert and Raymond Kemp; and a niece, Mary Demott.
Mrs. Woods was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1930. She also graduated from the West Virginia Business College in 1934.
She worked at the Bank of Mill Creek until 1942. In 1947, she joined her husband in business operating the Central Street Apartments and Tygarts Valley Telephone Co. of Mill Creek. She was the bookkeeper for the telephone company until her retirement in 1970.
She was the first female deputy sheriff in Randolph County and served for 16 years. She was a lifetime member of the West Virginia Sheriffs Association.
In 1963, she graduated from the first class of the Davis Memorial Hospital’s Licensed Practical Nurses Training Course. She was employed for many years as a private-duty nurse at Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the Chancel Choir. She served as a director of the Methodist Youth Fellowship and served as a national officer of the Board of Youth Fellowship. She was a member of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service and held many offices including president for several terms.
Mrs. Woods was a member and past president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Elkins, where she received numerous organizational awards. She was a member and served as president of the Randolph County Cancer Society and director of the Randolph County Cancer Closet many years ago. She also held offices at the state level in the Cancer Society.
She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she held numerous offices and served for many years as director of the annual Easter Egg Drive.
A private funeral service for Mrs. Woods will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Randolph County Unit, 105 Wilson Lane, Elkins, W.Va. 26241, in memory of Mrs. Woods. Luther B. Woods Jr.
Luther B. Woods Jr., 65, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Hendricks, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003.
He was born May 19, 1938, the son of the late Luther B. and Violet McDaniel Woods.
He was a retired first sergeant in the U.S. Army and served 28 years. He also worked for the Defense Finance and Accounting Service for more than 10 years. He was the past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 261 and was a member of Disabled American Veterans in Indianapolis.
He is survived by one son, Mark Woods of Indianapolis, Ind.; three daughters, Johna Woods, Paula Woods and Pamela Mobley and spouse, Samuel, all of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Coye Woods of Baton Rouge, La.; one sister, Janet Carr and spouse, Keith, of Elkins; two sisters-in-law, Mary Woods of Moore and Sharon Woods of Rosendorf; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Woods and Wayne Woods.
Friends will be received from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at River View Chapel in Porterwood. Interment will be at a later date. Sunset Memorial Gardens Crematory will provide cremation services. Donnel J. Woody
Donnel Junior Woody, 78, of HC 36 Box 248, Tallmansville, died Saturday, May 10, 2003, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born June 4, 1924, in Alexander, a son of the late Donnel E. and Pauline Bennett Woody.
On Sept. 28, 1945, he married Wilda Faye Hoover Woody, who survives at Tallmansville.
Also surviving are one son, Delmas Woody and wife, Donna, Buckhannon; two daughters, Loretta and husband, Randall Queen, Buckhannon, and Kathy and husband, Larry Andreas, Surfside Beach, S.C.; four brothers, Russell “Tom” Woody, Jimmie Woody, Keith Woody and Dale Woody, all of Buckhannon; and two granddaughters, Carla Campbell and Jessica Woody, both of Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Angolia Smith Woody; two brothers, Edwin Woody and Glenn Woody; and two sisters, Guilda Bragg and Ruth Schwaerzle.
He was co-owner and logging supervisor of Woody Lumber Co. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a former Sunday School teacher, superintendent and certified lay speaker for Harmony United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and a member of the NRA and AARP.
He was the local fire warden for West Virginia Division of Forestry and was active in the Adopt-A-Highway Program. He was a graduate of the University of Hard Knocks. He was a former member of the Upshur Sportsman and Conservation Club and a former board of director for the Washington District Fire Department.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home today from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Poling and the Rev. Holly Hoover officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Church Cemetery in Hemlock.  From 13 May 2003.

Mavis F. Woody
Mavis F. Woody, 66, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She was born March 19, 1937, in Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Robert Dewey and Lera Tenney Light.
Surviving are two sons, Timothy Woody and wife, Pamela, and Mark Woody and wife, Kathy, all of Buckhannon; three brothers, Delmar Light, Exil Light and Lancel Light, all of Buckhannon; two sisters, Mona Keeler of New Hampshire and Connie Light of Richmond, Va.; four grandsons, Matthew Woody, Daniel Woody, Chase Woody and Shay Woody, all of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Sarah Woody of Bridgeport; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends and neighbors of the Tallmansville community and her church family.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Agatha Hoover.
She worked at the Adrian-Buckhannon Bank for many years and was a coal miner for Island Creek Coal Co. at Ten Mile.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Tallmansville Baptist Church. The Rev. Mark Davis will officiate and interment will follow in the Upshur County Memorial Park.  From 31 Oct 2003.

Bernadine Wooten
Bernadine Mable Wooten, 74, of Helvetia, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Czar, the daughter of the late John D. and Lela Smith Pugh.
On Sept. 2, 1950, she was married to Elmer Franklin Wooten, who preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1982.
Surviving are six children, Alvin Wooten and wife, Martha, of New Mexico, Douglas Wooten of Helvetia, Wendell Wooten of Jane Lew, Shannon Wooten and wife, Jennifer, of Buckhannon, Mavis Leigh and husband, Julius, of Helvetia, and Kay Howes and husband, Dain, of Czar; 12 grandchildren, Heather Whittier, Eli Wooten, Robin Stump, Nicole Wooten, Shanna Wooten, Christopher Chenoweth, Monica Leigh, Andrea Wooten, Kara Chenoweth, Benjamin Wooten, Megan Wooten and Amber Rolenson; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Stump, Hanna Wooten and Jeremy Wooten; and two brothers, Dwain Dean and Richard Pugh.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Pugh; and two brothers, Junior John Pugh and Raymond Pugh.
She was a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and was employed by the H¸tte Restaurant in Helvetia.
Friends will be received at the Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Pine Grove United Methodist Church at Czar. The Rev. Charles L. Wright
Charles Lee Wright, 70, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2003.
He was born May 13, 1932, a son of the late Charles Hefner and Edna Givens Hefner Wright.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Julian Wright.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Weirton. He was a 1949 graduate of Steubenville High School. He was a member of the 25-Year Club at Weirton Steel and retired from Weirton Steel Corp. after 50 years of service from the accounting department. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Jo-Ellen Tacy Wright; his daughter, Tracy Wright of Weirton; his son, Sean Wright and wife, Vickie, of Weirton; and his four grandchildren, Shayna, Ian Douglas, Harley Wright and Tyler Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
There was no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 961, Cove Station, Weirton, W.Va. 26062 or Valley Hospice Inc., 380 Summit Ave., Steubenville, Ohio 43952. John Allen Wright
John Allen Wright of Hanahan, S.C., entered into eternal rest on Tuesday evening, April 29, 2003.
Mr. Wright was born April 11, 1964, in Baltimore, Md.
He was the husband of Cyndy Backal Wright, who survives in Hanahan, S.C.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Linda Ervin Davis and Rick Davis of Elkins; his father, John Wright; one son, Collin Davis Wright of Summersville, S.C.; and one brother, Ron Wright of Elkins.
Mr. Wright was a member of Harvest Baptist Church where he coached the junior varsity team in basketball.
Mr. Wright received his bachelor of arts degree in education from Southern Illinois University. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force with 10 years of active duty service as a staff sergeant and currently served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
Mr. Wright was an installation technician with L&S Electronics and a sales representative for Gene Reed Toyota.
Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Greenridge Road Chapel in N. Charleston, S.C., where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment with military honors will follow at 2 p.m. in the Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, S.C.

John A. Wright
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of April 29, 2003, was John Allen Wright, a resident of Hanahan, S.C., and a former resident of Green Bank.
The relatives and friends of John Allen Wright are invited to attend the memorial service of the former at the Hebron Baptist Church in Green Bank on Sunday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Collin Davis Wright Educational Fund, in care of Harvest Baptist Church, 8310 Dorchester Road, Charleston, S.C. 29418.
Mr. Wright was born April 11, 1964, in Baltimore, Md., a son of Linda E. Davis and Richard M. Davis.
Mr. Wright was a member of Harvest Baptist Church, where he coached the junior varsity team in basketball. Sonny Lee Wyatt
Sonny Lee Wyatt, 26, of Route 1, Belington, was pronounced dead on arrival at Broaddus Hospital in Philippi on Friday, Aug. 22, 2003. Death was attributed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born Nov. 24, 1976, at Grafton, the son of Ronald E. Wyatt, who survives at Route 1, Thornton, and Lois Ann Alexander Wyatt, who survives at Route 1, Moatsville.
On Aug. 25, 2001, he married the former Robin Lynn Wilson, who survives at Route 1, Belington.
Also surviving are two brothers, Ronnie McCumbers and wife, Pamela, of Grafton, and Ricky McCumbers and wife, Tina, of Belington; and four nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wyatt was a logger and was a partner in Laurel Point Logging. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed tournament billiards and riding motorcycles and four-wheel all-terrain vehicles.
Friends may call at the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Gene Carey and Pastor David Shelton will officiate and interment will follow in the Cross Roads Cemetery at Tacy. The Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.  From 25 Aug 2003.
