Arnol G. Lamb Sr.
Arnol Gordon Lamb Sr., age 82 years, a resident of 137 Riverview Drive, Elkins, departed this life Friday morning, Feb. 21, 2003, at his home. He had been in declining health for the past two months.
He was born Friday, July 16, 1920, at Ellamore, a son of the late Gordon Ellsworth Lamb and Grace Belle Hornbeck Lamb.
On Oct. 12, 1940, at Cattletsburg, Ky., he was married to the former Verla Katherine Shreve, who survives. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, Arnol G. Lamb Jr. and wife, Donna, New Bern, N.C.; one sister, Nada Davis, Ellamore; two grandchildren, Monica Christine Haskins and husband, Freddy, Havelock, N.C., and Brandon Arnol Lamb, Wilmington, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Allison Nicole Haskins and Michael Haskins; and several devoted nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lamb was preceded in death by three brothers, Strader, Woodford and Darius Lamb; and four sisters, Muriel Lamb Koon, Justie Kemble and Lena and Lottie Lamb.
Mr. Lamb attended Coalton High School and graduated from Watchmaking School at Baltimore, Md. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a U.S. Navy gunner from June 1944 to January 1946. He was a watchmaker, having worked for Lewis Jewelers at Buckhannon and Lamb’s Jewelers in Elkins. He retired from the West Virginia ABC Store in 1985. He was an avid hunter and sportsman, having been inducted into the West Virginia Wild Turkey Hunters Association Hall of Fame, was a member of the National Rifle Association, and enjoyed gardening.
Friends will be received at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. On Monday, Mr. Lamb will be moved to the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, where final rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. The Rev. Richard S. Gibson and the Rev. Walter H. Blough will officiate. Interment will follow at the Mount Union Cemetery at Sand Run. Hazel C. Lambert, beloved mother and grandmother, 81, a resident of Wymer, completed her life’s journey late Sunday evening, Jan. 19, 2003, and went to be with the Lord.
She was born Friday, June 24, 1921, at Wymer, a daughter of the late James Cook and Vernie Tingler Cook.
On Oct. 22, 1946, at Elkins, she was married to Bruce Everett Lambert Sr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1989.
Surviving are one son, Bruce Everett Lambert Jr., Wymer; one daughter, Patricia A. Lambert, Elkins; eight brothers, Roy Cook, Cleveland, Ohio, Joe Cook, Wheeling, Paul Cook, Canton, Ohio, Gene and James Cook, both of Elkins, George Cook, Beverly, Howard Cook, Saint Clairsville, Ohio, and Jerry Cook, Russia; one sister, Ina Cook, Wymer; four grandchildren, April Mullenax, Allison Mullenax, Whitney Lambert and Trenton Lambert; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Emmett, Ernest and Jack Cook; and one sister, Edna Fleming.
She attended the schools of Randolph County. She was the postmaster at Wymer for 41 years and was the owner and operator of the Chevron Station at Middle Mountain since 1945. She was a member of the National League of Postmasters, the Randolph Chapter No. 74, Order of the Eastern Star and was affiliated with the Otterbein United Methodist Church.  From 21 Jan 2003.

Jeffrey H. Lambert
Jeffrey H. Lambert, 41, a former resident of Elkins and a resident of New Martinsville since 1996, passed away Monday, May 26, 2003, at 4:37 p.m. in Wetzel County Hospital. He had been in his usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.
Born May 1, 1962, he was the son of Harl Lambert, currently a resident of Holbrook Nursing Home, and Iladell McCauley Lambert, who preceded him in death in 1998.
On June 4, 1983, he was united in marriage to the former Teresa A. Lockhart who survives in New Martinsville.
In addition to his father and wife, Mr. Lambert is survived by one daughter, Brittany Ann Lambert, age 14; one sister, Linda Smith and husband, Jerry, of Buckhannon; his mother-in-law, Wanda Lockhart of New Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lambert was formerly employed by S.W. Jack Drilling Co. in Buckhannon. He also worked 13 years for Teets Custom Meat as a meat cutter until he became disabled.
Mr. Lambert attended school in Randolph County. He loved woodworking, gun collecting and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 93 of New Martinsville and was a Baptist by faith.

Martha Lambert
Martha Lee Smith Lambert, a wife, mother, daughter, teacher, businesswoman and musician, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at The Willows, an assisted-living facility in Winchester, Va.
“Marty” was born in Arden on July 29, 1916, to the late Harriet “Hattie” Carpenter Smith and L. Owen Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee “Bill” Lambert, whom she married on Nov. 13, 1936, in Russell, Ky. They lived their 51 years together in Philippi.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha Jo Pilette of Winchester, Va.; one son, William Lee Lambert II of Boston, Mass; two granddaughters, Wendy Lam and Alison Pilette of San Diego, Calif.; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Lam of San Diego, Calif.; and one sister, Mary Ann Pelaez of Moundsville.
Two sisters, Betty Lou Ellis and Isabel Robinson, are deceased.
After graduating from Philippi High School at the age of 16, Mrs. Lambert went on to get her teaching certificate from Alderson-Broaddus College and became an elementary teacher. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Brownton for several years before leaving the profession to start her family.
Later in life, Martha Lee returned to assisting children when she volunteered as a reader for the Philippi City Library and at the local elementary school.
Working in a business setting was something Martha Lee enjoyed. She was employed as a secretary for the Barbour County Board of Education for several years and later worked for the director of admissions at Alderson-Broaddus College. She also assisted her husband, Bill, in his insurance business as an agent for State Mutual Insurance Co. for 35 years.
As a volunteer, she helped at Broaddus Hospital with the Bookmobile and she was proud to serve at the voting polls during elections in Philippi. One of her favorite jobs was volunteering to work in the box office for the Covered Bridge Theater.
Marty loved games, sports and puzzles. She was in several bridge clubs through her lifetime, was an avid golfer and was a member of a bowling team.
During her many years as a member of Crim Memorial Methodist Church, Martha Lee served as a choir member, organist and organist/choir director, as well as being a member of the Methodist Women’s Circle. She was a member of the Barbour County Association of Retired School Teachers and was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Wright Funeral Home in Philippi with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wright Funeral Home with Robert “Buck” True officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Varley Guss "Pap" Lambert Sr., 75, of Riverton, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at his residence.

Vicky Lea Landers, 32, of Route 2, Box 180, Buckhannon, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at the home of her parents in Buckhannon.
She was born June 14, 1970, in Buckhannon, the daughter of Garfield “Tom” Allen and Helen S. Roby Smith, who survive in Buckhannon.
Also surviving are her husband, Howard Joseph Landers, Buckhannon; two sons, Thomas Allen Smith and Howard Joseph Landers II, both of Buckhannon; two daughters, Karen Sue Smith and Joanna Lea Lander, both of Buckhannon; two sisters, Ellen Kay Tenney and Madaline Frances Smith, both of Buckhannon; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jenny Smith and Penny Smith; her maternal grandparents, Glendle and Nellie Roby; and her paternal grandparents, Hoy and Madalene Smith.
She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal by faith.

Mildred J. Lane
Mildred Jane Lane, 86, of Holbrook’s Nursing Home, Buckhannon, died Friday, May 23, 2003, in Holbrook’s Nursing Home, Buckhannon.
She was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Rosie Butcher Lake.
She married Glenville Lane, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda McCauley, Elkins, and Wanda DorryCott, Youngstown, Ohio; one son, Raymond E. Lane, Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Diana Smith; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant baby; one son, James R. Lane; five sisters, Edna, Thelma Golf, Hattie, Leloa and Susan; and two brothers, Junior Lake and an infant brother.
She was a homemaker.

Wilma J. Lane
Wilma J. Lane, 54, a resident of the Sago Road, Upshur County, passed away Friday, March 28, 2003, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born Oct. 21, 1948, at Beverly, the daughter of the late Edward and Cora Elizabeth Collins Bennett.
On Feb. 21, 1998, in Upshur County, she was married to Russell Lane, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Marsha Cooper of Montrose and Charlene Douglas of Hedgesville; one stepson, William Lane of Buckhannon; two stepdaughters, Katrina Riffle and Betsy Lane, both of Bristol, Tenn.; three brothers, Darrell, Charles and Donnie Bennett, all of Beverly; and one sister, Joyce Butcher of Colonial Heights, Va.; two grandchildren, Cody and Paige Cooper, both of Montrose; one stepgranddaughter, Makayla Lane of Buckhannon; and two stepgrandsons, Cadin and Cody Riffle, both of Bristol, Tenn.
Mrs. Lane was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School. She was employed as a file clerk for the Appalachian Community Health Center and was a Christian by faith.

Lucille S. Lang
Lucille Sutton Lang, 90, a resident of 326 Grant St., passed away at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at her residence. She had been in declining health for the past five years and under the care of her daughter, at her home.
Mrs. Lang was born May 19, 1912, at Huttonsville, the daughter of the late John R. Sutton and Theresa Liggett Woods Sutton.
On Dec. 27, 1947, she married Edwin Graden Lang, who preceded her in death in 1992.
She is the mother of two children, Theresa Lang Markle of Elkins and Randolph “Randy” Lang of San Francisco, Calif.; one brother, Col. John Liggett Sutton of San Antonio, Texas; one granddaughter, Mary Theresa Markle Bender and husband, Timothy, of Roanoke, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Jasmine Sierra and Memphis Owen also survive.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Elizabeth Lang; one son, Edwin Graden Lang Jr.; and one brother, Walter Byron Woods.
Mrs. Lang graduated from Tygart Valley High School in 1928 as class valedictorian. She then attended Glenville State College and West Virginia University. She began her teaching career at Huttonsville, Mill Creek and the Homestead schools and for 15 years taught at the then-largest elementary school in Randolph County, which was Central School as a first-grade teacher. Mrs. Lang started and taught the first pilot kindergarten project where she was Follow-Through instructor. The success of her kindergarten became the topic of conversation in schools and in the community. At the time, the Follow-Through program was the only program of its type in West Virginia. She subsequently was chosen as West Virginia’s first Teacher of the Year in 1968, during the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson. She was a past member of the American Classroom Teachers Association, the Randolph County Classroom Teachers Association, the Randolph County, West Virginia and National Education Associations and the Parent-Teacher Association within the educational sphere, and served as secretary of the Randolph County PTA. She was a member of the Early Childhood Education group within the WVEA, and served on the state curriculum committee of the WVEA. She is a life member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and is a life member of the Randolph County Retired School Teachers Association. Mrs. Lang was a past member of the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church and First Church of the Nazarene in Elkins. During her retirement she spent most of her time gardening. She loved her home and flowers and the beauty of nature that God provided around her. On several occasions over the years, she received the “Yard of the Month” award given by the Emma Scott Garden Club.
At the request of the family, Mrs. Lang will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the North Central West Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 4543, Star City, W.Va. 26504-4543 or Mountain Hospice, 1410 Crim Ave., Belington, W.Va. 26250. Michelle L. Lange
Michelle Leigh Lange, 32, a resident of 200 Findley St., Elkins, departed this life early Thursday morning, Feb. 6, 2003, at her home. She had been in declining health and considered critical for the past three months. Her death was attributed to Friedreich’s Ataxia.
She was born Saturday, Dec. 26, 1970, at Burbank, Calif., a daughter of the late Marvin Charles Lange and Evelyn Christine Erickson Lange, who survives at Elkins.
Also surviving are two uncles, George H. "Butch" Erickson and Diane, Charleston, S.C., and Carl E. "Shorty" Erickson Jr. and wife, Carol, Elkins; three aunts, Dorothy Jean Erickson, Elkins, Carol Daniels and husband, John, Beverly, and Joann Brannon, Greensboro, N.C.; uncle Ray and aunt Marge Lange, who were also her godparents, of Medford, Wisc.; and several cousins.
Preceding her in death besides her father were her paternal grandparents, Herb and Agnes Lange; and her maternal grandparents, Carl Edwin Erickson Sr. and Eleanor Lila Lobb Erickson.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1989, was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College with the class of 2000, with bachelor’s of science degrees in philosophy, English-literature. She was an avid reader, who loved the readings and works of the great philosophers, enjoyed all types of music and was an accomplished pianist. She was a sports enthusiast and a "die-hard" Hockey Fan! She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Julia A. Langley, 61, of 15 Meadowlands, Buckhannon, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at 8:51 a.m. at the decendent’s residence in Buckhannon.
She was born June 3, 1941, a daughter of the late Owen William and Leola Maude Cool Robinson.
Surviving are two sons, Jr. Losch, Tampa, Fla., and Billy Sims, Indiana; one daughter, Tinna Losch, St. Petersburg, Fla.; a special companion, George Bennington, Buckhannon; three sisters, Clara Bennington, Genny Riley and Lilly Fisher, all of Crawford; one brother, James Robinson, Crawford; one grandson, Donald Losch; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a homemaker and a Christian by faith.

Carolyn W. Lantz
Carolyn Waller Lantz, 88, a former resident of 219 Second St., Elkins, and a resident of Hartland and Beckley, crossed over to her heavenly home, Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 18, 2003, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley. She had been in declining health since October 2002.
She was born Wednesday, July 15, 1914, at Flemington, a daughter of the late Curtis Coy Waller and Iowa Sally Wyckoff Waller.
On Sept. 8, 1934, at Grafton, she was married to Isaac Daniel “Dan” Lantz, who preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1958.
Surviving are one brother, Thomas F. “Tom” Waller, Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her husband, was one infant daughter, Judith Lantz; one brother, William R. “Bill” Waller; and two sisters, Gertrude Douglas and Mary Leta “Peggy” Stenmark.
She attended the schools of Flemington, was a homemaker and was a childcare provider for the Robert Thompson family. She was a member of the Delphia Rebekah Lodge 62, the Pythian Sisters No. 77, the Past Chief Club 77, had served on the board of the Randolph County Cancer Society, and had led Girl Scout Troop 5 at Crystal Springs. She was formerly an active member of the Crystal Springs Community Church, where she taught Sunday school for 17 years and was active in all activities of the church. She was a member of the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Friday at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Gary L. Oscar Marion Lantz, 98, of Aurora, passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Md.
He was born July 4, 1906, in Pendleton County, the son of the late Isaac Mayberry and Carrie Mae Lawrence Lantz.
He is survived by two sons, Richard Lantz and wife, Mary, of Oakland, Md., and Ronald Lantz and wife, Janet, of Ridgeley; one daughter, Donna Duley and husband, Willy, of Independence; two sisters, Myrtle Smith of Brunswick, Ohio, and Eleanor Knotts of Akron, Ohio; six grandchildren, Linda Frechette, Justine Calcamp, Charolette Roth, Allen Lantz, Ronald Lantz Jr. and Jamie Dixon; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lantz was preceded in death by his wife, Viola E. Lantz; one brother, Ollie; and four sisters, Emma, Mary, Olive and Eva.
Mr. Lantz worked as a farmer.

Wanda Ellen Lantz, 82, of Largo, Fla., and formerly of Linn, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Clearwater Hospital in Largo, Fla.
She was born March 29, 1920, in Lantz, a daughter of the late Elam and Fannie Elbon Lantz.
Surviving are her foster daughter, Linda K. Vaughn and husband, Henry, Largo, Fla.; one brother, Ernest “Bud” Lantz and wife, Janice, Ellamore; two foster grandchildren, Graham and Sarah Beth, both of Largo, Fla.; one foster great-granddaughter, Isabelle, Largo, Fla.; one great-nephew, Rodney Bloomer and wife, Jody, Florida; one great-great-nephew, Justin Bloomer, Florida; two nieces, Fran McCalla and husband, Lee, Lecanto, Fla., and Jean Jones and husband, Robert, Gallipolis Ferry; and two great-nieces, Joy Jenkins and husband, John, North Carolina, and Jill Jones, Florida.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Lantz and Doris Teter; and a twin brother, Elbon Lantz.
She was a private care giver. She was a member of Gertrude Chapel Church at Ellamore, and attended Gulf to Lake Church of Crystal River. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and was loved by all who knew her.

Charles Layman Jr.
Our devoted son, husband and father, Charles William Layman Jr. of Davis, died Friday, May 9, 2003, in Grant County.
He was born Feb. 24, 1969, in Detroit, Mich., a son of Charles W. Layman Sr. and Nancy Blevins Heasley of Bayard.
He was preceded in death by grandfather, S.E. Bailey Layman; grandmother, Jessie Layman; and grandfather, Curtis Mabery.
He was a member of the Mountain Top Hunting Club. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing with friends and family. He was employed by Rush Excavating.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his maternal grandmother, Ruth Mabery. Also surviving are his wife, Karen L. Stauffer Layman and daughter, Charlotte Sophia Layman, Davis; one brother, Curtis B. Layman and wife, Jannett, Bayard; one sister, Mrs. Tony (Nena) Lambruno and husband, Thomas; three nieces, Anna-Florence Layman, Devan Lambruno and Alena Lambruno; and two nephews, Jason Stauffer and Alden Layman.
A memorial service was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Davis where he was a member. The Rev. Allen M. Schwarz officiated. The Stewart Funeral Home of Oakland, Md., was in charge of the arrangements.

Clara Jett Lawson, 84, of 32 College Ave., Buckhannon, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at her home.
She was born Feb. 25, 1919, in Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Audra Dow Strader and Maude Peterson Strader.
On May 8, 1942, she was married to Edward Ruhl Lawson, who survives.
Surviving are two sons, Stephen Edward Lawson of Toledo, Ohio, and Gregory Lee Lawson of Ft. Collins, Colo.; three daughters, Linda Miller of Newport, Maine, Michelle Lawson of Bethlehem, Pa., and Barbara Trueman of Aurora, Ohio; one brother, Robert Strader of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Matha Ann Beretic of Canton, Ohio; five grandsons, Josh Lawson of Leesburg, Va., Stephen Lawson of Tucson, Ariz., Jay Trueman of Columbus, Ohio, Doug Trueman of Columbus, Ohio, and Peter Guadagnino of Virginia; and three granddaughters, Robin Trueman of Columbus, Ohio, Melissa Jessen of Dallas, Texas, and Kristen Lawson of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and three great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
She was a member of the West Virginia University Extension Club, was past president of the Buckhannon Woman’s Club, which is a part of the West Virginia Federation of Women’s Clubs, was a schoolteaacher before having a family, and owned a business selling ceramic pieces and decorated eggs.

Helen Maxine Leach, 89, of Philippi, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
She was born May 22, 1913, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Adlai and Alice Simon.
Her husband of 71 years, Blaine H. Leach, survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Harold Leach and wife, Estelle, Nashville, Tenn., Theodore "Ted" Leach, Philippi, Thomas Leach and wife, Ann, Lockport, N.Y., and Larry Leach and wife, Karen, Philippi; two daughters, Gloria Oppenheimer and husband, William, Warren, Ohio, and Helen Auvil and husband, Encil, Greer, S.C.; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Earl "Bud" Simon and wife, Jean, Hyattsville, Md., Frank Simon and wife, Aileen, Vista, Calif., and James Simon and wife, Mary, Philippi; and one sister, Eloise Lusby and husband, Franklin, Vista, Calif.
She was preceded in death by on son, Blaine Jr.; and two brothers, Harry Simon and James Wesley Simon.
Mrs. Leach was a lifetime member of Crim Memorial United Methodist Church in Philippi.
She was a graduate of Philippi High School. She was a devoted housewife and full-time mother. She retired in 2000 from the National Weather Service after serving Philippi diligently as a weather observer for approximately 60 years. In this capacity she earned several honors from the National Weather Service, culminating in the prestigious Thomas Jefferson Award as well as simultaneously being presented a Distinguished West Virginian Award signed by Gov. Cecil Underwood for outstanding achievement and meritorious service. In publicizing for personally gathered weather data. Mrs. Leach sent a weekly weather column to the Barbour Democrat for many years as well as providing individualized information to local residents during flooding and dangerous precipitation conditions.
Mrs. Leach loved playing the piano. She started playing at an early age and could play by ear or note. This skill enabled her to serve Philippi by playing during silent movies, along with her father who played the fiddle, at both the Lido and Grand theaters. In addition she served her church as pianist and organist as well as entertaining Philippi residents at Christmas time with music piped townwide from the Presbyterian Church.
Friends will be received on Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Alicia Rapking officiating. Interment will follow in Mary’s Chapel Cemetery. From 2 Jan 2003.

Charles W. Leary
Charles W. Leary, 82, of St. Albans, died Friday, October 3, 2003, at his home following a brief illness.
Mr. Leary was retired from Union Carbide in South Charleston, with 37 years of service. He was a decorated U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Russell.
He was a member of American Legions Post 73 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6718 of St. Albans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. and Lilly Hewitt Leary; by his wife, Mary Louise Gainer Leary; and by one brother, Leslie Leary.
Surviving are five brothers and their wives, John B. Leary of Freeland, Md., Frank H. Leary of Madison, James A. Leary, of Woodbine, Md., Edward B. Leary of Elkins, and Robert M. Leary of Granite City, N.C.; and a special friend, Ann Dodd of Charleston.
Also surviving are 13 nephews, three nieces, 23 grandnieces and nephews, and two great grand nieces.
Graveside services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Belington Fraternal Cemetery with Barbour Post 44 American Legion conducting military rites.

Helen Marie McCauley Leary, 78, a resident of the Cravensdale community, Elkins, departed this life, Monday evening, Nov. 3, 2003, at the Davis Memorial Hospital emergency room. She had been in declining health.
She was born Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1924, at Cravensdale, the daughter of the late Howard Lafayette McCauley Sr. and Lena Beula Moran McCauley.
On April 10, 1946, she was married to Denver G. Leary, who preceded her in death during 1985. Surviving are two brothers, Howard Lafayette McCauley Jr., and wife, Pauline, of Cravensdale and Robert Dale McCauley of Gilman; two sisters, Virginia R. Valentine of Elkins and Nelda Jo McMillan of Trevose, Pa.; and 12 nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband are one sister, Bernice Iladell McCauley Lambert; and one nephew, Jeffrey Harl Lambert.
Helen was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1943, was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church where she had formerly taught Sunday School.

Howard A. Leary, 40, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at his home in South Carolina.
He was born in Elkins, a son of Marguarette Williams of Marion, S.C., and the late Johnnie Williams and Charles A. Leary of Elkins.
Also surviving are a daughter, Chrystal Gayle Crawford of Coward, S.C.; two sons, Howard A. Leary Jr. of Coward, S.C., and Tyler Gage Leary of Timmonsville; five sisters, Provellan Leary of Florence, S.C., Brenda Svaton of Darlington, S.C., Belinda Byrd and Tina Williams, both of Fayetteville, N.C., and Rosetta Dobbins of Georgia; two brothers, Johnnie Williams Jr. of Timmonsville and Galen Leary of Maryland; his grandmother, Irene Bender; and a grandson, Jonathan William Crawford.
Howard graduated from South Florence High School and was self-employed in residential construction. He was a Baptist by faith.

Lucinda E. Heatherly Leary, 81, a former resident of 326 1/2 South Randolph Ave., Elkins, and more recently of Nella’s Nursing Home at Crystal Springs, departed this life Monday afternoon, March 31, 2003, at the nursing home. She had been in declining health.
She was born Saturday, April 16, 1921, at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late David L. Heatherly and Anna B. Bosley Kittle Heatherly.
On Feb. 4, 1943, at Elkins, she was married to Russell D. Leary, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one niece, Maxine Collett, Thomas; one great-niece, Jennifer Conrad of Cumberland, Md.; and one great-nephew, Forest Conrad of Thomas.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
She attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker and a member of the Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center and the First Baptist Church.

Woodrow W. Leary
Woodrow Wilson Leary, 78, of Montrose, passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since Aug. 24, 2003. He had been in failing health for the past six years.
He was born Oct. 18, 1924, at Weaver, a son of the late George Washington and Melissa Crookshank Leary.
He is survived by a daughter, Peanut “Roberta” Gump and Carl of Sarah Ann; one son, Michael Leary of Ohio; three sisters, Betty Jo Vanpelt of Lakeland, Annalee Sturms of Montrose and Eula Loane of Reno, Ohio; and one brother, Darius Leary of Cravensdale.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were three sisters, Virginia Goff, Lenora Crites and Shirley Huff; one brother, Denver Leary; and one son, Jeffrey Leary.
Mr. Leary was a drill press operator and made landing gear for Boeing 747 jets and B52 bombers.
Woodrow had also been employed at Cleveland Pneumatic Tool, having retired with several years of service.
He was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home in Elkins after 7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner Chapel Thursday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Frank Collier of Mill Creek will officiate. Interment will follow at the Mouse Cemetery in Cravensdale.

Kenney Warren Lee, 44, of Route 2, French Creek, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in Meyersdale, Pa.
He was born May 14, 1958, in Buckhannon, a son of Keith and Zita Zickfoose Lee, both of Buckhannon.
In addition to his father and mother, he is survived by his girlfriend, Lois Alderman of French Creek; one daughter, Rhonda Ober of Marlinton; three stepsons, Calvin Alderman of Oklahoma, Mark Alderman and Burlin Alderman, both of Marlinton; one grandson, Kendel Ober of Marlinton; five brothers, James L. Lee of Buckhannon, John H. Lee of Buckhannon, Robert K. Lee of Hariam, Calif., Thomas W. Lee of Kingsport, Tenn., and Max R. Lee of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a Christian by faith.

Lemoyne “Patty” Lee, 83, of Buckhannon died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
She was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Frenchton, a daughter of the late Lyda Jackson Lee and Ersa Mae Golden Lee.
Surviving are several nephews and nieces including nephew, John Dempsey Lane of Buckhannon, and nieces Marguerite Layman of Arlington, Carol Jean Hayes of Kanawha Head, Sheila Mae Kelley of French Creek, and Doris Sayre, Shirley Rogers and Meredith Rogers, all of Buckhannon; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Murl Lee and Woll Lee; and five sisters, Bonnie Johnston, Ivy Woodford, Feltsia Lane, Leota Armstrong and Donice Heavner.
She was a homemaker and a Christian by faith.

She was born Oct. 8, 1922, on the Old Harper Farm at Hazelwood, the daughter of the late Jasper Benjamin and Ethel Elizabeth Strum Vanscoy.
On March 10, 1946, at Lewisburg, she was married to Clyde Bernard Levier, who preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1981.
Surviving are two sons, William Ross Levier and Charles Edward Levier, both of Elkins; and a daughter, Rebecca Sue Buschman of Millersville, Md.
One sister, Betty Jo Vanscoy Miller of Beverly; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Preceding her in death were two sisters, Dorothy Vanscoy Goode and Dora Vanscoy Jones.

Geraldine Gifford Lewis, 82, of Route 2, Buckhannon, the Little Sand Run community, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born Aug. 2, 1921, in Upshur County, the daughter of the late Weaver and Molly Gooden Leigh.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester “Bus” Gifford, and is survived by her second husband, Marvin Lewis of Little Sand Run.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert “Heavy” Gifford and Larry Gene Gifford; one brother, Richard Leigh; and two stepsons and two stepgrandchildren.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Church of the Living God. She was a homemaker, a cook, and a seamstress for Reidbord Brothers.
She was a member of the Refunders for Christ.
Friends will be received at the Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Church of the Living God where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Louise Elizabeth Mahanes Light, 79, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, in the emergency department of the Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 2, 1923, at Goochland, Va., a daughter of the late Taylor Scott and Hallie Mahanes.
On Sept. 9, 1938, she was married to Olen George Light, who preceded her in death on April 23, 1980.
She is survived by four sons, Stewart Light and wife, Linda, Earl Light and wife, Connie, Herman Light and wife, Julie, all of Mill Creek, and Richard Light of Harrisonburg, Va.; five daughters, Alma Hughes of Maryland, Doris Lloyd and husband, John, of Ashland, Va., Wanda Jones and husband, Robert, of Buckhannon, Irene Chenoweth of Elkins, and Linda Jack, who resided with Mrs. Light.
Also surviving are one brother, Pete Mahanes of Coalton; one sister, Margie Kervonick of Richmond, Va.; 18 grandchildren, Kim, Karla, Randy, Carolle, Shelby, Michael, Shirley, Patricia, Pam, Kenny, Anthony, DeNise, Stephanie, Chad, India, Candi, Bridget, Kayla; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and perhaps her best known quality was her love of watching her grandchildren playing basketball and growing up to be fine young men and women. She lived and loved life to the fullest and touched the hearts of all who she knew and loved. She was a Protestant by faith.

James G. Linger
James Glen Linger, 80, a resident of Adrian, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at the home of his brother, Donald Linger Sr.
He was born Oct. 12, 1923, at Indian Camp, the son of the late Anthony “Bert” and Lula Maude Gould Linger.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Marie Staley Linger of Adrian; and one brother, Donald Linger Sr. of Rock Cave.
He was the owner of Linger Produce in Adrian. From 1947 to the late 1970s he owned the Linger Chair Factory in Rock Cave and from 1959 to 1998 was the owner of the Linger Salvage Yard in Adrian.
He served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force.

He was a farmer and a member of the Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, was a charter member of the American Simmental Association.
He was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Orion Leo Lint, 79, of HC 88, Box 85, Hacker Valley, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown following an extended illness.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Lint of Hacker Valley; four sons, Orion L. Lint of Tioga, Richard Lint and wife, Virginia (Ding), of Morgantown, Robert Lint and wife, Cheryl, of Morgantown, and John R. “Rick” Smith and wife, Lisa, of Parkersburg; three daughters, Elizabeth “Liz” Varney and husband, Gary, of Hacker Valley, Rose Quinn and husband, George, of Hacker Valley, and Connie Riggs and husband, Bill, of Dayton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Naomi Lint; two brothers and four sisters.
He was a plant manager for Coastal Lumber Co., Hacker Valley, for 38 years. He was a member of Hacker Valley Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. Military graveside rites will be performed by VFW Post 3738, Webster Springs.

Riley Blaine “Mutt” Lipps, 87, of 12 Island Ave., Buckhannon, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
Mr. Lipps was born Aug. 20, 1915, in Braxton County, a son of the late Daniel Frederick and Dessie Dell Donaldson Lipps.
On March 25, 1953, he married Annabell Florence Lipps, who survives in Buckhannon.
Also surviving are eight sons, Blaine Lipps, Buckhannon, Danny Lipps and wife, Joan, Logansport, Ind., Ernie Lipps and wife, Janet, Gassaway, Dan Lipps and wife, Christene, Buckhannon, Riley “Crow” Lipps and wife, Debbie, Century, Bernie Lipps and wife, Mary Jane, Buckhannon, Joe Riffle and wife, Sandy, Teter, and Woody Riffle and wife, Barbara, Buckhannon; two daughters, Mary Perrine and husband, Jack, Rock Cave, and Faye Lipps, Buckhannon; 28 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara Cottrill and Annamae Lipps; four grandsons, Will Lipps, Delmar Perrine III, Eric Vance and Jonathan Lipps; one granddaughter, Bobbie Ware; four great-grandchildren, three sisters and five brothers.
Mr. Lipps was a coal miner for Queen Brothers Coal Co. He was a Pentacostal by faith.

Ada Lipscomb
Ada Agnes Shaffer Lipscomb, 80, a former resident of Leadmine, Tucker County, and a resident of 19 Easy St. in Elkins, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 28, 1923, at Douglas, the daughter of the late Charles “Charlie” Shaffer and Blanche Paugh Shaffer.
On May 15, 1942, in Maryland, she was married to Robert Lee Lipscomb, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Robert Lee Lipscomb Jr. of Leadmine; two granddaughters, Kimberly Ann Lipscomb Day and husband, William E., of Parsons and Susan Lee Lipscomb of Elkins; and four great-grandchildren, Wesley Allen and Emily Michelle Nestor, both of Elkins, and Rorry Isaiah Day and Dora Grace Day, both of Parsons.
Also surviving is one half brother, Charles H. “Junior” Shaffer of Howard City, Mich.; one sister, Lorena Digman of Leadmine; one half sister, Aileen Kovach of Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Donald, Ronald and Warren Shaffer; three sisters, Gladys Carr, Hazel White and Evelyn Stillings; one half brother, Franklin Shaffer; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Shaffer.
Mrs. Lipscomb and her husband owned and operated a small store in Leadmine for many years. She was a member of Parsons Chapter No. 91 Order of the Eastern Star where, over the years, she held every office. She was a member of the Delphia Rebekah Lodge and the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. At 7 p.m. Tuesday, members of Parsons Chapter No. 91 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service. Forrest L. Lipscomb
Forrest L. Lipscomb, 65, of Thomas, passed away Monday, July 21, 2003, at his residence, following an extended illness with lung cancer.
He was born Sept. 21, 1937, in Thomas, a son of the late Willis and Ruby Demoss Lipscomb.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Brenda Helmick Lipscomb; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and a host of special friends.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.
Mr. Lipscomb worked as a boilermaker, tool and die maker, coal miner and most recently he retired from the State Department of Highways. He was a member of the FOE No. 936, Mt. Top Hunt Club and Davis Lodge 103 IOOF of West Virginia where he held several offices, the last one being past grand. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict.
A memorial service for the cremated remains of Mr. Lipscomb will be held Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Davis Lodge 103 IOOF building on the corner of Fifth Street and Thomas Avenue. Franklin A. Lipscomb, 53, of Rowlesburg, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Feb. 5, 1950, in Preston County, the son of Ruby Bohon Lipscomb of Thomas and the late Albert Lipscomb.
He was a disabled U.S. Army veteran and served in the Vietnam Conflict. He was also a member of the West Virginia National Guard.
He is also survived by his wife, Elsie Moats Lipscomb; one son, Franklin A. Lipscomb Jr. of Rowlesburg; three daughters, Theresa Alt of Moorefield, Pamela Arbogast of Kingwood and Shelly Lipscomb of Salem; four brothers, Charlie Lipscomb and Jonas Lipscomb, both of Thomas, Kenneth Lipscomb of Parsons and Edward Lipscomb of Elkins; four sisters, Wanda Knotts of St. George, Twila McGrath of Pensacola, Fla., Mary Johnson of Rowlesburg and Delores Wycoff of Farmington; and seven grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Margie Evans.

Glenda Lipscomb
Glenda Mae Bennett Lipscomb, 70, a resident of Etam and more recently a resident of Cupitts Nursing Home in Oakland, Md., departed this life early Monday morning, Nov. 17, 2003, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland. She had been in declining health.
She was born Thursday, Dec. 29, 1932, at Accident, a daughter of the late Wesley Bennett and Minnie Simmons Bennett. On March 1, 1948, at Oakland, she was married to Jack Lipscomb, who survives at Etam.
Also surviving are one son, Charles Lipscomb of Etam; three daughters, Barbara Johnson and husband, James, of St. George, Vickie Jones and husband, Elmer, and Betty Ridenour and husband, Bob, all of Etam; two brothers, Earl Bennett of Tennessee and Terry Bennett of Rowlesburg; three sisters, Ethel Sypolt of Moatsville, Judy Lipscomb of Alaska and Blanche Sanders of Ervin; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Fichett, and one infant grandchild.
She attended the one-room school at the foot of Cheat Mountain in Preston County. A homemaker, she attended the Rowlesburg Southern Baptist Church at Rowlesburg.

Lula Lipscomb, 86, a resident of Thomas and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, departed this life Wednesday morning, June 11, 2003, at the nursing home. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born Thursday, April 12, 1917, at Parsons, a daughter of the late Dave Lipscomb and Sarah Lipscomb.
She had never married.
She was a homemaker and affiliated with the Brethren Church.

She was born Aug. 22, 1941, at Morgantown, a daughter of Lurene Zickefoose Tenney, who survives at Bristolville, Ohio, and the late Russell Tenney.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Debbie) Curtis, Warren, Ohio, and Mrs. David (Dixie) Carr, Montrose; three brothers, Jearl Tenney, Monroeville, Ala., Eugene Tenney, Mocca, Ohio, and Michael Tenney, Champion, Ohio; five sisters, Helen Carnaham, Leavittsburg, Ohio, Frances McMillen, Niles, Ohio, Barbara Fairchild, Cortland, Ohio, Joyce Hunt, Niles, Ohio, and Judith Shipman, Warren, Ohio; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace Curtis; one stepgranddaughter, Mrs. Rick (Debra) Lawrence; one stepgrandson, Michael Vandevander; one great-granddaughter, Kimberly Lawrence; and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Tenney; and one sister, Carolyn Riportella.
She was a dietary aid. She formerly worked for 18 years at Warren General Hospital. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and taking care of children. She was a 36 year member of Warren Baptist Temple.

Rosaline S. Lockwood, 83, of 38 W. Victoria St., Buckhannon, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born April 6, 1920, in Grafton, a daughter of the late Zola A. and Cora Mae Sponaugle.
On April 6, 1946, she married Raymond Starcher Lockwood, who preceded her in death on July 22, 1994.
Surviving are one son, John Brent Lockwood, Buckhannon; two grandsons, John Brent Lockwood II, Glenville, and Ryan Starcher Lockwood, Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn Lockwood, Buckhannon, and Jamella Lee Lockwood, Fairmont; one great-granddaughter, Alexis McDaniels, Buckhannon; and two great-grandsons, Jonathan McDaniels, Buckhannon, and Robert Skyler Suddoth, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Julia Ann Lockwood; and one sister, Leah Sponaugle.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Buckhannon Chapter 18 Order of Eastern Star. She graduated from Grafton High School in 1937.
Mom Rose, like the flower, was beautiful, kind, delicate, and yet strong-willed all the same. She will be greatly missed by both friends and family.

William W. Logan
William Wanner Logan, 87, a resident of Files Creek Road, Beverly, and more recently of Colonial Place Assisted Family Living Facility, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Colonial Place.
Mr. Moats was born Jan. 20, 1916, in York, Pa., a son of the late Frederick Welty and Ethel Wanner Logan.
On Sept. 27, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mary Dunn Ayton Logan who preceded him in death in August 1965. He never remarried.
Surviving are one son, William F. Logan of Beverly; one daughter, Catherine M. Logan of Cape Coral, Fla.; two granddaughters, Carla Marie Ceruzzi and Aziz June Salehi of Cape Coral, Fla.; one sister, Helen Gulick of Dillsburg, Pa.; one sister-in-law, Margaret A. Rinehart of Venice Fla.; and several cousins.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Josephine M. Logan of York, Pa.
Mr. Logan attended the schools of York, Pa., and graduated high school at the age of 16.
He graduated from Penn State University in 1939 with a degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduating from college, he worked ordnance jobs during World War II, unable to serve in the military due to poor vision.
He worked for McGraw-Edison Industries in West Orange, N.J., for 20 years in the voice writing division. He later worked for Singer Corp. in Elizabeth and Fairfield, N.J., until his retirement.
He held several patents in electronics for both companies, and was highly regarded in the field of electronic design. He was involved in the patent of the first electronic consumer sewing machine produced by Singer in the 1970s, and will be remembered by many as a quiet, friendly and kind man who always had a smile.
At the request of the deceased, his body was donated to the human gift registry for medical research. A memorial service will take place at a later date. William Wanner Logan, 87, a resident of Files Creek Road, Beverly, and more recently of Colonial Place Assisted Living Facility, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Colonial Place.

John Wilson Lohr, 84, a well known and respected funeral director and a resident of Graham Street, Elkins, departed this life Friday afternoon, Oct. 3, 2003, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown following a massive stroke at his home on Thursday evening.

Flarina Lenora Long
Flarina Lenora Long, 83, of Tunnelton, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at the Cuppetts-Weeks Nursing Home in Oakland, Md.
She was born March 10, 1919, in Dryfork, the daughter of the late Edward Day and Daisy Flanagan.
She is survived by four sons, Lowell Long, Baltimore, Md., Troy Long, Dryfork, and Luther and Marvin Long, Tunnelton; two daughters, Virginia Wiley, Grantsville, Md., and Anna Lois Allman, Elk View; 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Linza Long; one brother and four sisters.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Long was a nursing assistant at Hopemont State Hospital in Terra Alta.
She was the treasurer of the Red Oak Gospel Church.
Friends will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Lanesville Mennonite Church on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Patricia A. Long
Patricia Ann “Pat” Long, 60, of Parsons, departed this life early Saturday morning, Oct. 11, 2003, at her home. She had been in declining health since June and death was attributed to cancer.
She was born Sept. 15, 1943, at Lackey, N.Y., the daughter of the late Jeff Pat and Mae Lyons Bentley.
On June 4, 1960, at Mill Creek, she was united in marriage to Clyde Long, who survives in Parsons.
Also surviving are one son, David Long and wife, Judy, and two grandchildren, Ashley and Ethan Long, all of Holly Meadows; two sisters, Linda Brown and Phyllis Andrews and husband, Roger, and two brothers, Clarence Bentley and wife, Kay, and Pat Bentley Jr. and wife, Jill, all of Buckhannon; one sister-in-law, Fonetta Bentley of Geneva, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were three sisters, Lillian, Betty Lou and Eunice Faye Bentley; and four brothers, Elmer, Carl, Bobby Joe and Radford Bentley.
Patricia was self-employed as a caregiver and housekeeper for various families of the area, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
She attended the Floyd County schools of Kentucky and the Randolph County schools of West Virginia.
She attended the Riverview Chapel Church at Porterwood.
Pat’s husband and family would like to thank her many special friends that helped with prayers, cards, calls, gifts of love and encouragement during her courageous battle with her illness.

Russell Long
Russell "Bud" Long, 72, went to be with the lord on Sunday afternoon, June 15, 2003, at his home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to a heart failure.
He was born May 5, 1931, at Dryfork, a son of the late Strike Long and Julie Long.
He was twice married, first to the former Violet Grimm, who preceded him in death on June 3, 1960, and then to the former Gertie Alice White, who he married on April 15, 1964, and who preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 1997.
Surviving are his friend and companion, Holly Huffman; three sons, Roy Long and Sammy Long, both of Dryfork, and Denny White of Elkins; three daughters, Susie Long of Dryfork, Louise Poling of Parsons and Anna Mae James and husband, Rick, of Montrose; four sisters, Rosie Jones of Wheeling, Nanna Harper of Maryland, Lettie Hamrick of Ohio and Ella Mine Mowery of Dryfork; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one son; Clinton White; one granddaughter, Angie Poling; three brothers, Lindsey Long, Kelly Long and Gerald Long; and two sisters, Noral Long and Mary Vada.
He attended school at Dryfork. He was a former employee of the Coastal Lumber Co. and Kingsford Coal Co. of Parsons. He was a self-employed woodsman and truck driver. He attended the Parsons Church of God and was a friend of the Nazarene Church of Parsons.
The family will receive friends at the Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Pastor Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow at the Davis Cemetery at Davis. Zula Bell Mallow Long, 86, of Maysville and formerly of Romney, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Md.

Elizabeth K. Loudin
Elizabeth Knight Loudin, 92, of Carney, Md., died in Lorien Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Belcamp, Md., Tuesday, July 1, 2003.
She was born in Burnsville, a daughter of the late Silas L. and Minora Childress Beall and the wife of the late Ralph Knight and the late Ray Loudin.
She was a resident of West Virginia for 87 years in the area of Burnsville and Elkins. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Burnsville and the Women’s Christian Society. She loved cooking, especially baking bread. She enjoyed feeding the birds and traveling on a moment’s notice. She collected cardinals.
She is survived by one daughter, Sue K. Stricker of Abingdon, Md.; one brother, William H. Beall of Hico; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her two husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Eugene Knight; and one brother, James M. Beall.
Services were held in First Methodist Church, Burnsville, on Monday. Interment was in the Knights of Pythias Cemetery of Burnsville.  From 8 Jul 2003.

Boyd B. Louk
Boyd B. Louk, 72, of Clarksville, Tenn., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at Blanchfield Army Hospital in Fort Campbell, Ky.
Mr. Louk was born May 6, 1931, in Mill Creek, the son of Nora Bennett Louk, who survives in Clarksburg, and the late William Howard Louk.
Surviving are his wife, Mary A. Corley Louk of Clarksville, Tenn.; three sons, Jeffry Louk of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Richard “Randy” Louk of Clarksville, Tenn., and Terry Louk of Hermitage, Tenn.; four brothers, Bonnie Ralph Louk of Garrettsville, Ohio, James Louk of Nutter Fort, Russell Louk of Buckhannon, and Vernon Louk of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Louk was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War and served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1970, the Civil Service from 1973-1993, and retired from Fort Campbell, Ky. He received the Meritorious Award Good Conduct Medal from the U.S. Army, and the Kings Medal from Thailand. He was an advisor to the Thailand Army.
His Civil Service awards include the Achievement Award and Certificate of Excellence in Desert Storm, and multiple awards for exceptional performance.
He was an accomplished musician.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel, 424 Franklin St., Clarksville, Tenn. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Frank Hargrow officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Clarksville, Tenn. Irene Louk
Irene Louk, 78, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2003, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born April 3, 1924, at Huttonsville, the daughter of the late William and Vicie McCollum Cutright.
On Sept. 23, 1941, she married Ralph Louk Sr., who preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1997.
Surviving are three sons, Randall Louk of Parsons, Ralph Louk Jr. and Ronald Louk, both of Mill Creek; and two daughters, Linda Mahoney and Caroletta Louk, both of Mill Creek. Eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Louk was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by an infant son, three brothers and six sisters.
Mrs. Louk was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Tuesday, she will be moved to the Jerusalem United Methodist Church where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. The Rev. Retha O. Lowe
Retha Olena Lowe, 82, of Clarksville, Tenn., died Friday Sept. 26, 2003, at the Spring Meadows Healthcare Center in Clarksville. 
She was born April 15, 1921, at Alton, the duaghter of the late Herbert McKinley Gladwell and Virgie Loudin Gladwell.
She is survived by her hsuband, William Ralph Lowe.  They were married for more than 66 years. 
Surviving are one son, Jim Lowe and wife, Paulette, of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Shirley Rexroad and husband Roscoe of Rock Cave and Lovena Hibbs of Buckhannon; three grandchildren, Amy Lowe, Scott Lowe and Steve Lowe, all of Clarksville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Lowe and Matt Lowe, both of Clarksville, Tenn.; and one uncle Rex Loudin of Buckhannon.  
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Madaline Cogar and Marie Corley.  
Mrs. Lowe was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church and the Pythian Sisters of Buckhannon.  
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday.  The Rev. Richard McGuire will officiate and interment will follow in the Heavner Cemetery at Buckhannon.  From 30 Sep 2003. 

Harry L. Lowe
Harry L. Lowe, 77, of Parkersburg, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
He was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Spencer, a son of the late Harley N. Lowe and Eliza Carpenter Greiner.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He was in bread sales for Greiner’s, Purity and Flowers Bakeries. He was a member of the Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Men and the Wood County Rescue Squad. He was a Boy and Cub Scout leader and taught Sunday school at church and was a member of the puppet team.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Greta Lowe; one son, Tom Lowe and wife, Susan, of Parkersburg; one daughter, Marilyn Lowe of Elkins; one granddaughter, Annie Mahoney and husband, Kerry, of Parkersburg; one great-grandson, Casey Michael Mahoney of Parkersburg; one aunt, Macil Bennett; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Lindsay Thorp officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with full military rites provided by the American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Donna R. Lower
Donna Rae Lower, 45, of Buckhannon, Liggett Addition, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She was born Dec. 17, 1957, in Upshur County, a daughter of Annabelle Casto Hamner of Buckhannon, and the late Donald Ray Hamner.
Surviving are her husband, Ed Lower of Buckhannon, whom she married on Aug. 23, 1975; one daughter, Sherry A. Claypool and husband, Ben, of Rock Cave; four sisters, Sue Farnsworth of Kesling Mill, Sandy Loudin of Buckhannon, Kathy Brewer of Ashland, Ky., and Shirley Hamner of Anchorage, Ala.; two brothers, Steven Hamner and Randy Hamner, both of Buckhannon; three grandchildren, Kelsey Claypool, Jacob Claypool and Devin Claypool; several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was a homemaker.
Friends will be received at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Weese Day officiating. Dana Ray Lowther, 71, a resident of Price Street in Parsons, departed this life Thursday morning, Nov. 13, 2003, at his home, following a brief illness. Death was attributed to cancer.
He was born Monday, Jan. 25, 1932, at Skilt in Webster County, a son of the late Melville H. Lowther and Sarah A. Cogar Lowther.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda Marie Roy and husband, Carl, of Hambleton; three brothers, Jesse D. Lowther and wife, Pauline, of Leadmine, Donald F. Lowther of Hendricks, and Charles G. Lowther and wife, Deloris, of Hendricks; three sisters, Aretta J. Krause of Parsons, Betty L. Humphrey Mothershed and husband, Bob, and Carol S. Sarvinas and husband, Bill, all of Sanford, Fla.; three grandchildren, Lynette Hunt of Hambleton, Johnny “Bo” Owens and wife, Misty, and Tommy Owens, all of Fairmont; six great-grandchildren, Codi, Zachary, Joshua, Landon, Dominick and Keyton; 23 nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melville H. Lowther Jr. and Lester Gray Lowther; three sisters, Eula “Billie” Tunning, Josephine Mae Wilt and Myrtle Nell Lowther; and one great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Grace Owens.
He had worked in the lumber companies and coal mines in southern West Virginia. He was a member of the West Virginia Laborers Union for 30 years.

Nancy R. Lucas
Nancy Rebecca Baughman Lucas, 71, of Salisbury, N.C., died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, in Salisbury, N.C., following an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 23, 1931, near Tacy community, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Dillon Pierre and Mary Elizabeth (Nee Moore) Baughman.
On Jan. 2, 1953, she was married to John C. Lucas, who survives at Salisbury, N.C.
Also surviving are four daughters, Carol Ann Cullifer and husband, Bobby, Wylie, Ga., Mary Virginia Lucas, Charlotte, N.C., Linda Lou Johnson and husband, Walter, Kernersville, N.C., and Nancy Elaine Shields and husband, James, Greensboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, Maxwell Johnson and Shawn Johnson; and two sisters, Mrs. E.V. (Elizabeth) Wickline, Lewisburg, and Mrs. Ray (Charlotte Jane) Cavendish, Bradenton, Fla.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Newton Moore Baughman; and one sister, Louisa Bella Snyder.
Mrs. Lucas was retired as an accountant for the Charlotte, N.C., Chapter of the March of Dimes. She was a member of the Cross Roads United Methodist Church.
Friends may call at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, when Mrs. Lucas will be moved to Cross Roads United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Linda Ann Lutz
Linda Ann Lutz, 42, of Maysville, formerly of Baltimore, Md., died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg after a courageous six-year battle with breast and brain cancer.
Viewing will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. today and Wednesday at Schaeffer Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  From 2 Dec 2003.

Leah Ruth Luzier
Leah Ruth Luzier, 85, of Davis, passed away at Cortland Acres Nursing Home on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003.
She was born July 14, 1918, in Aurora, the daughter of the late Raymond George and Martha Harsh Hauser.
Her husband, Charles “Hunt” Luzier, preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1981.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by two sons, William “Butch” Luzier of Britton, Mich., and Gary Luzier of Davis; one daughter, Barbara Shaffer of Oakland, Md; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Luzier was a member of the Rebekahs of Blackwater Lodge and a member of the Davis United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Davis United Methodist Church with the Rev. J.J. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Davis Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  From 26 Aug 2003.
