Stewart A. Fahrner
Stewart Alexander Fahrner, 90, a lifelong resident of Helvetia, died Monday,
Dec. 22, 2003, at the home of his daughter, Betty Fahrner, of Stephens City, Va.
He was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Guinea Mills, Va., the son of the late William and
Irene Thomas Fahrner.
Surviving is his wife, Beatrice Wisekal Fahrner, whom he married on Jan. 3,
1942.
Also surviving are one son, Robert "Bob" Fahrner and wife, Dorothy, of
Washington, Pa.; one daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Fahrner of Stephens
City, Va.; four grandchildren, Stacy Fahrner Reynolds, William Fahrner, Richard
Woody II and Michael Woody; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Eleanor
Mailloux and Margie Daetwyler, both of Helvetia.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Fahrner; and two sisters, Mamie
Brown and Sally Warren.
Mr. Fahrner was a farmer and the original builder and owner from 1950 to 1967 of
the Skateland of Buckhannon.
He was a member of the Buckhannon Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He was an avid hunter of deer and turkey and was inducted into the West Virginia
Turkey Hunters Hall of Fame. He also loved his garden.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the
Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel where funeral services will be at 1 p.m.
Saturday. Pastor Rick Cutright will officiate and interment will be in the
Fahrner Family Cemetery at Helvetia. The Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Home of
Buckhannon is in charge of arrangements for Stewart Alexander Fahrner.

Lawrence Fallon
Lawrence “Larry” Wesley Fallon, 38, of Columbus, Ohio, died Monday, Nov. 3,
2003, in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born June 18, 1965, in St. Petersburg, Fla., the son of Lawrence
“Leo” and Joanne Peterson Fallon of South Amherst, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Sheila Fallon of
Phoenix, Ariz.; his paternal grandmother, Opal Virginia Shreve Fallon of
Florida; his maternal grandfather and grandmother, Erlo “Pete” and Lucy
Osburn Peterson of South Amherst, Ohio; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Paul Wesley Fallon, in
1984.
Larry graduated with the class of 1983 from South Amherst High School. He had
been a resident of Columbus, Ohio, for five years and was very active with the
DeMolay in high school.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1985 to 1992. He was employed by Invacare
in Elyria from 1992 until 1998 and worked for Donato’s Pizza in Columbus for
the last four years in customer service. While living in South Amherst, he was a
member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Peterson Cemetery in
Weston with the Rev. Gary Stackpole officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family
suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Fireland’s School

Margaret G. Fancher
Margaret Gum Fancher, 82, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away at her home on
Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003.
She was born at Cass on Nov. 20, 1920, the daughter of the late Crawford and
Sadie Gum.
She graduated from Greenbank High School and the Duke University School of
Nursing and served as a flight nurse in World War II and the Korean War.
On Feb. 20, 1949, she married Sgt. Richard Fancher, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are four children, Col. James Fancher of San Antonio, Texas, Richard
Fancher of Corpus Christi, Texas, Suzanne Willner of Plano, Texas, and Melinda
Fancher of Washington, D.C. One son, Stephen Fancher, is deceased.
Also surviving are two sisters, Martha G. Craft of Elkins and Virginia McCauley
of Mountain Lake Park, Md.
Funeral services were held at Baptist Temple of San Antonio and Fort Sam Houston

Mamie V. Fannin
Mamie Victoria Fannin, 83, of Huntington, passed away Sunday, March 30,
2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reger Funeral Chapel
by Kiah Williamson and the Rev. Don Napier. Burial will be in Docks Creek
Cemetery in Kenova.
She was born Feb. 14, 1920, a daughter of the late Enos Adkins Jr. and Virginia
Dillon Adkins.
She was the former co-owner of Fannin Plumbing and Heating. She attended the
Westmoreland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Woodrow “Woody” Fannin; two
sons, Johnny Dale Fannin Sr. and James Woodrow Fannin Jr.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Sam McComas of
Buckhannon; four grandchildren, Hal S. McComas IV, of Wilmington, Del., John
Fannin of Dacula, Ga., Todd Fannin of Timberville, Va., and Elizabeth McComas of
Huntington; five great-grandchildren, Josh, Tyler and Reilly Fannin and Kaitlyn
and Andrew McComas; sisters, Ruby Jack of Pritchard, Rebecca Henson of
Huntington; and brothers, Enos Adkins Jr. of Chesterland, Ohio, Robert Adkins of
Huntington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Ada E. Fansler
Ada E. "Betty" Fansler, 90, a resident of 109 Oakland St., Elkins, and
a patient at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away at 5:30 a.m.
Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 5, 1913, at Somerset, Pa., a daughter of the late Henry J.
and Leora A. Long Shumaker.
On Sept. 19, 1935, she was married to Gordon W. Fansler who preceded her in
death on Dec. 24, 1992.
Surviving are a son, Eric Paul Fansler and wife, Barbara, of Piketon, Ohio, and
three grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Anita Cataline,
and a son, Danny Fansler.
Mrs. Fansler was a retired secretary in the Elkins area. She was a member of the
Elkins Church of the Nazarene.
Private graveside rites will be held at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at a

Church of the Nazarene, 503 Lincoln St., Elkins, W.Va 26241 in memory of Mrs.

Clarence Fansler Sr.
Clarence Fansler Sr., 87, of Wiley Ford died on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at the
WMHS Memorial Campus Hospital.
Born April 2, 1916, at Elkins, he was the son of the late Ernest Fansler and
Icie (Isner) Fansler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Millie Fansler, April 17, 1984; a son,
Walter Fansler; three daughters, Bertha Fansler, Betty Fansler and Mary Lee
Wolfe; two brothers, Boyd Fansler and Gilbert Fansler; and four sisters, Cleo
Johnson, Marie Evans, Stella Sheets and Jessie Hornick.
Retired from the Western Maryland Railroad, Mr. Fansler was a member of the
Wiley Ford Assembly of God Church and the United Transportation Workers.
He is survived by his second wife, Florice Fansler; four sons, Clarence Fansler
Jr. and wife, Linda, of Cumberland, Md., R. Donald Fansler and wife, Nancy, of
Cresaptown, Md., Ronald Fansler and wife, Elaine, of Berlin, Md., and N. Danny
Fansler and wife, Kim, of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Willa Jean Cool of Vero
Beach, Fla.; five sisters, Beatrice D’Angelo of North Carolina, Irene Snyder
of Glen Burnie, Md., Catherine Connor of Florida, Elsie Hornick of Elkins; and
Pearl Leasure of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and 23
great-grandchildren.

Paul Michael Farrabee, 43, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at
Hodgesville.
He was born Aug. 24, 1960, in Barnesville, Ohio, the son of the late Kenneth
Farrabee and Linda Holley Cain, who survives in Arizona.
On Aug. 16, 1982, he was married to Florence Wodzinski Farrabee, who survives.
Surviving are two daughters, Wendy and Joshua Russell of Buckhannon and Kayla
Farrabee of Buckhannon; one grandson, Zechariah Russell of Buckhannon; four
brothers, Kenneth Farrabee, French Creek, John and Lynne Wesley of New Jersey,
James and Toy Farrabee of Ohio, and Philip Wesley of Arizona; four sisters,
Beverly Farrabee of Buckhannon, Patricia Ryan of Buckhannon, Louise and Greg

He was an electrician and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of
Buckhannon Moose Lodge No. 598.

Lois Farris
Lois Renay Arbogast Farris, 77, a resident of Junior and more recently of
Broaddus Long Term Care in Philippi for the past several months, departed this
life at 11:55 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2003, at the care facility after being in
declining health for several years.
She was born Sept. 21, 1925, at Junior, the daughter of the late Leslie and Mary
Estaline Valentine Arbogast.
On Feb. 9, 1946, she was united in marriage to Jasper E. Farris, who preceded
her in death on July 13, 2000.
She is survived by three brothers, David Arbogast and wife, Marty, of Belington,
Jack Arbogast and wife, Doris, and Donald Arbogast and wife, Mary, all of
Dayton, Va.; one sister, Helen Frances Kittle Robertson and husband, William, of
Uniontown, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Jo Arbogast of South Gate, Mich.; and
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and
Charles Arbogast.
Mrs. Farris attended the schools of Barbour County and resided in Barberton,
Ohio, for several years where she had been employed by the Ackwell Co. She was
also a homemaker and was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Junior.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Brethren Cemetery in Junior
with the Rev. Walter Blough officiating. Interment will follow. The Talbott

Mary M. Fawley
Mary Margaret Summerfield Pudder Fawley, 77, a resident of Belington, passed
away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at her residence. She had been in failing health
since March, however her health had declined since July. Death was attributed to
cancer.
She was born July 12, 1925, a daughter of the late Dayton and Sara Wyatt
Summerfield.
She was twice married. In December 1943, she was united in married to Clarris
“Hick” Pudder, who preceded her in death in October 1981, she then married
Wayne Fawley, who survives in Belington.

Mary Margaret Summerfield Pudder Fawley, 77, a resident of Belington, passed
away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at her residence. She had been in failing health

Mrs. Nancy McNiel of Oldfields, Mrs. Thelma Pudder of Englishtown, N.J., and
Mrs. Ina Pudder of Englishtown, N.J.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, four
great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She attended many churches and was Protestant by faith. She loved to crochet and
also made quilts. She also loved to make dolls. She was also well known because
of her wonderful personality and never meeting a stranger.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel today after 5 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel Saturday at noon. The
Rev. Ralph Summerfield of the Norton Community Church and the Rev. Dennis Estes
of Buckhannon will officiate. Interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens

Agnes V. Feaster, 85, a former resident of 100 Tallman Ave. in Elkins and for
the past month a resident of Colonial Place, departed this life at 8:10 a.m.,
Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining
health for the past week.
At the request of the deceased her remains were donated to the Human Gift’s
Registry at West Virginia University, Morgantown. A memorial service will be

Agnes Feaster
Agnes V. Tephabaugh Feaster, 85, a former resident of 100 Tallman Ave., the
Elkins Manor in Elkins, and for a month a resident of Colonial Place in Elkins,
departed this life at 7:50 a.m., Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at the Davis Memorial
Hospital. She had been in declining health for a week although death was sudden.
She was born Monday, May 6, 1918, at Elkins, and raised in Thomas, a daughter of
the late Floyd L. Tephabaugh and Bessie M. Kerns Tephabaugh.
On Sept. 15, 1937, at Buckhannon, she was married to Sidney Owen Feaster, who
preceded her in death March 16, 1983.
Surviving are one daughter, Wanda Schoonover and husband, Austin, of Elkins; one
son, Sidney “Skip” Feaster and wife, Carol, of Beltsville, Md.; one sister,
Joan Hamilton of Bel-Air, Md.; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two
step great-grandchildren, one great- great- grandchild, several nieces, nephews
and cousins; a special friend, Rose Fox; and a special niece, Jinx H. McNeer.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were two infant
daughters, Melinda Mae and Souel Adair Feaster; one sister, Jacque Smith; two
infant brothers; two brother-in-laws, Orlo G. Smith and Harold J. Hamilton; and
two nieces, Janie Elizabeth Hamilton and Jerri Lynn H. Graziani.
Agnes was a graduate of Thomas High School with the class of 1935 and retired as
the head cashier at the Memorial General Hospital in 1980. She was a life member
of the Blackwater Chapter 45, Order of the Eastern Star at Davis, was a member
of the Women’s Club, the Davis & Elkins College Aid, the Emma Scott Garden
Club, the Bridge Club 16, the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church and Circle 2 of
the church.
At the request of the deceased, her remains were donated to the Human Gift’s
Registry at West Virginia University in Morgantown.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lohr & Barb
Funeral Home of Elkins with the Rev. Jeff Falter officiating. The family

Paul F. Ferrebee
Paul Franklin Ferrebee, 83, a resident of Route. 1, Elkins, passed away at 2:30
a.m. Monday, May 26, 2003 in the Davis Memorial Hospital emergency department.
He was born Jan. 13, 1920, at Keyser, a son of the late Earl Franklin and
Margaret Elkins Ferrebee Bell.
On March 13, 1942, he was married to Lenora Tallman Ferrebee, who preceded him
in death on Oct. 18, 1994.
Surviving are four sons, Earl Ferrebee of Natchez, Miss., Robert Ferrebee of
Morgantown, Dale Ferrebee of Buena Vista, Va., and David Ferrebee of Elkins. Two
half-brothers, Glenn Bell of Lonaconing, Md., and Gene Bell of Westernport, Md.,
a sister, Retha Garrett of San Diego, Ca., eight grandchildren and 11 great
grandchildren also survive.
Also preceding him in death were one brother, Donald Ferrebee and one
half-brother, Thomas Bell.
Mr. Ferrebee was employed as a railroad carman retiring from the Chessie System
Railroad. He was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center, the Brotherhood
of Railway Carman and the First Church of the Nazarene in Elkins.
Friends may call from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home
in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Tomblyn

Harold Fidler
Harold Fidler, 93, of East Victoria St., Buckhannon, died Saturday, Jan. 18,
2003, at Holbrook Nursing Home.
He was born May 19, 1909, in Gilmer County, a son of the late Burton and Orrie
Davis Fidler.
He was united in marriage on Jan. 21, 1950, to Loreen Rose Lewis Fidler, who
survives.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by three sons, Larry Dale Fidler of
Route 9, Buckhannon, Hurlie R. Fidler of Mabie, and Ralph Eugene Fidler of
Buckhannon; two grandsons, Michael E. Fidler and David W. Fidler, both of
Buckhannon; six stepgrandsons, Richard Stillwell of Mabie, Robert Stillwell of
Korea, Roger Stillwell of Virginia, Delmas Jordan of Diana, Scott Jordan of
Pittsburgh, Pa., and Derek Jordan of French Creek; two stepgranddaughters,
Crystal and Sarah Jordan, both of Buckhannon; and one great-stepgrandson, Dakota
K. Jordan Powers.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Mr. Fidler served as a U.S. Army corporal. He was a lifetime member of the
French Creek DAV Chapter 36. He was retired from gas wells and also as a
part-time employee for Home Hardware.
Mr. Fidler was a Methodist by faith.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Heavner & Cutright
Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Heavner officiating. Interment will follow
in Lorentz Cemetery. The Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of

Thomas G. Fidler
Thomas G. Fidler, 65, a resident of Vinton, Va., passed away Saturday, Oct. 18,
2003, at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital at Roanoke, Va.
He was born Feb. 16, 1938, the son of Geraldine Fidler, who survives, and the
late Hunter Fidler.
Also surviving is his wife, Barbara Fidler; and children, Terri Fidler Wright
and husband, Barry, Susan Hancock and husband, Phil, and Steven Fidler and wife,
Crystal.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Hunter and Heather Hancock, Bradley,
Amanda and Kara Wright; sisters, Brenda Hornbeck and husband, Larry, Evelena Fox
and husband, Jim, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Fidler was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the military
police. He retired from Equifax after numerous years of service.

Richard D. Fincham
Richard Doyle Fincham, 74, a resident of Baltimore, Md., passed away
Wednesday, April 30, 2003, in Baltimore.
He was born Dec. 24, 1928, at Adolph, the son of the late Harvey and Effie Pritt
Fincham.
He was married to Florence Jacobs Fincham, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Dan Fincham, Sykesville, Md.; a daughter, Sharon

Mr. Fincham was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He was a truck
driver prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Freight Drivers Union
Local 557.

James N. Finlen
James Neal Finlen, 67, of Deming, N.M., departed this life Tuesday, Aug. 5,
2003, at his home. Jim had been in declining health for several months.
Jim was born in Elkins on July 14, 1936. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Ray Finlen and Hazel Watts Finlen; three brothers, Harold Finlen of
Elkins, Fred Finlen of Rainelle, and Clifford “Tip” Finlen of El Paso,
Texas; and four sisters, Naomi Zirkle of Elkins, Rhonda Duckworth of
Pennsylvania, Hannah Kelly of Elkins, and Vanessa Chadbolt of Ohio.
Jim is survived by three children, Julie Burgess and husband, H.T., of Virginia,
Jeff Finlen and wife, Cindy, of Virginia, and Mark Finlen and wife, Donna, of
North Carolina.
He is also survived by his wife, Juanita Finlen of Deming, N.M., and
stepchildren, Rachel Tovar of El Paso, Mary, Joshua and Justin Tovar of Deming,
N.M., Joe and Julie Tovar of Utah, Mike Tovar of Running Spring, Calif., Patsy
and Luis Lerna of Phoenix, Ariz., and Luis Tovar of El Paso; one sister, Carla
Jean Weese of Elkins; one sister-in-law, Ruby Finlen, and daughters, Margaret
and Ruby Ann of El Paso, and Janice Bruce of Fountain, Colo.
At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated and his ashes were
scattered on his parents’ graves near Elkins. A memorial service was held at
the time with his children, Julie, Jeff and their families in attendance. The
service was also attended by his sister, Carla Jean Weese, and husband, Ron, and
Jim’s friends.
The Rev. Terry Cannon presided over the memorial services.
Jim is resting now, Job 14:12. He’s waiting to begin his new life when Jesus
returns, John 11:25.

Cosbie Fisher
Cosbie Rebecca Crawford Fisher, 73, of Kanawha Head, died Wednesday, Nov. 26,
2003, at her home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
She was born Dec. 19, 1929, at Kanawha Head in Upshur County, the daughter of
the late Loy Atkinson and Opal Maxine Helmick Crawford.
She was united in marriage on March 22, 1947, to James Glen Fisher, who
survives.
She is also survived by four sons, Ernest Glen Fisher of Philippi, James Edward
Fisher and wife, Patty, of Buckhannon, Thomas Mark Fisher and wife, Sis, of
Arlington, and Randall Lee Fisher of Buckhannon; and three daughters, Zelda Ruth
Hawkins and husband, Robert, of Buckhannon, Jewel Lynn Fisher, at home, and
Nancy Kay White and husband, Stan, of Buckhannon.
Thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren
also survive.
Surviving are three brothers, the Rev. Russell French Crawford and wife, Diane,
of Parkersburg, the Rev. Johnnie Crawford and wife, MaryLee, of Elyria, Ohio,
and Kenneth Crawford and wife, Glennia, of Kanawha Head; one sister, Lorma Kay
Rumph and husband, Eddie, of Grafton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Escar Crawford; and two sisters, Lydia
Holbrook and Ruth Fleming.
Mrs. Fisher was a retired janitorial aide with the Upshur County Board of
Education and was a homemaker.
She attended the Good Hope Tabernacle Church.
Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel from 5

David L. Fisher
David Lewis Fisher, 36, of Natural Bridge Station, Va., died Tuesday, May
27, 2003.
Mr. Fisher was born on Sept. 25, 1966, in Elkins, a son of Carlene Hinkle Fisher
Lawhorne of Salem, Va., and the late Clarence Edward Fisher Sr.
He was employed by Aspen Tree Cutting.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Fisher is survived by two sisters, Flora Rachel
Pugh of Salem, Va., and Laura Jean Hoover of Dunmore; two half brothers,
Clarence Edward Fisher Jr. of Marion, Va., and Ernest Lewis Fisher of Natural
Bridge Station, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held May 31 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry
Clark officiating. Burial followed in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. There was

Roy Glen Fisher, 76, of Island Avenue, Buckhannon, died Wednesday, June 4,
2003, at his home.
He was born Sept. 17, 1926, in Sutton, a son of the late Hugh and Effie Williams
Fisher.
Surviving are his wife, Viola Gibson Fisher, Island Avenue, Buckhannon; one
daughter, Patricia A. Lesondik and husband, Lawrence, Buckhannon; one son, the
Rev. Joseph G. Fisher and wife, Laura, Florida; two grandchildren, Michael
Lesondik and wife, Andrea, Maryland, and Michelle Rice and husband, Jonathan,
Elkins; and five sisters, Oma Nolan, Crawford, Olive Curtis, Weston, Pearl
Perrine, Crawford, Mary Jane Burnside, Buckhannon, and Dessie Curtis, Weston.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, William Fisher, Okie Fisher and Guy
Fisher; and four sisters, Ethel Cogar, Nellie Cogar, Madilene Fisher and Mamie
Knight.
He was a retired water plant operator for the city of Buckhannon. He repaired
musical instruments and made dulcimers. He was a member of the Christian Faith
Center on Island Avenue.

Alice Flanagan
Alice Christena Wilt Phillips Flanagan, 69, a resident of the Stringtown
community in Belington, departed this life at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003,
in the Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for quite
sometime.
She was born May 24, 1934, at Owins, the daughter of the late Harry and Flossie
Mae Powers Wilt.
She was twice married, first in December 1953 to Edgar N. Phillips, who preceded
her in death in 1976, and second on June 4, 1982, to Herbert “Bud” Flanagan,
who survives at their home in Belington.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Larry A. Phillips and
wife, Donna, Kenneth R. Phillips and wife, Marie, Michael J. Phillips, and
Thomas H. Phillips and wife, Kim, and two daughters, Anita K. Phillips and
Rebecca M. Flanagan, all of Belington.
Also surviving are three sisters, Betty Fortney and husband, Larry, and Susie
Stalnaker and husband, Dave, all of Elkins, and Mary Ketchem, Belington; one
brother, Harry R. Wilt and wife, Geraldine, of South Carolina; one foster
sister, Frances Coberly of Montrose; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by two
brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Flanagan attended the schools of Barbour County, was a former employee of
Family Health Services and was employed in the past years for various families
in the Belington community.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the Stringtown United Methodist Church
where she had served many years as treasurer.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 p.m. to
9 p.m. today and on Wednesday until 2 p.m., when funeral services will be
conducted in the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Arden Beck officiating.

Jesse Flanagan, 72, of Harman, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Davis
Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
He was born Oct. 2, 1930, in Dryfork, a son of the late Robert and Edith Huffman
Flanagan.
He is survived by his wife, Leoma White Flanagan, who he married on June 13,
1953.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael and wife, Cheryl Flanagan, of Charlotte,
N.C., and Timothy and wife, Mary Flanagan, of Wicomico, Va.; three brothers,
Henry Flanagan of Dryfork, Bobby Flanagan of Wickliff, Ohio, and Steven Flanagan
of Hampton, Va.; three sisters, Violet Garris and Juanita Flanagan, both of
Wadesboro, N.C., and Dovie Flanagan of Glady; and six grandchildren, Sean
Michael Flanagan, Jessica Lynn Flanagan, Katelyn Nicole Flanagan and Dylan Wayne
Flanagan, all of Charlotte, N.C., Casey Ryan Flanagan and Kyle Matthew Flanagan,
both of Wicomico, Va.
Mr. Flanagan was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra Joy Flanagan;
and two infant sons, Philip David and Gregory Lee Flanagan.
Mr. Flanagan was retired from Brunk Tile and Interiors of Newport News, Va. He
was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp., having served in the Korean War. He was
a member of the Harman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5781, Warwick Masonic Lodge
336 of Newport News, Va., and Harman Presbyterian Church.
Friends will be received Friday at the Harman Presbyterian Church from 7 p.m.
until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at the church at 2 p.m. with

David R. Forinash
David Ralph Forinash, 55, a resident of Valrico, Fla., died Tuesday, Oct. 7,
2003, in Brandon, Fla.
He was born June 24, 1948, in Washington, D.C., the son of Avis Butterfield
Forinash of Huttonsville and the late Ralph Francis Forinash.
On Dec. 26, 1970, in Red Bank, N.J., he was married to Diane Leeper Forinash,
who survives.
Surviving are two sons, J.D. Forinash of Roswell, Ga., and Stephen Forinash of
Cumming, Ga.; and two sisters, Donna Somers of McKinney, Texas, and Doris
Wiseman of West Union.
A 1966 graduate of Tygarts Valley High School, he graduated from the U.S.
Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., in 1970. He retired as a major from the
U.S. Army.
A resident of the Valrico area since 1985, he was employed as a computer
scientist.
Mr. Forinash was a Presbyterian by faith.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Serenity Meadows

Grace S. Forinash, 98, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at
Trinity Community in Beavercreek, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dana M. Forinash, and one brother,
Francis St. Clair.
Grace is survived by her two daughters, Rosella Sheets (Mac) of Beavercreek and
Janet Reynolds (Robert) of Centerville; one brother, Conard St. Clair (Mollie)
of Buckhannon; seven grandchildren, Patricia Gelineau (Richard) of Connecticut,
Doris Olson (Bruce) of Idaho, David Sheets (Merry), Judy Sheets, Daniel Reynolds
(Ann), Wesley Reynolds (Julie) and Robin Reynolds; 11 great-grandchildren, Adam,
Lauren, Karrie, Cadie, McLaine, Nathan, Matthew, Shannon, Lindsey, Justin and

Winiferd V. Fortney
Our loving mother, Winiferd Venora Fortney, 81, a resident of Stalnaker Run
community, went home to be with the Lord and Daddy, a place she longed for, on
Monday, March 24, 2003, at 9:50 a.m. in the Davis Memorial Hospital. Death was
sudden and unexpected.
Born Nov. 4, 1921, in Upshur County, she was the daughter of the late Luther
Burton and Icie Maude Swick Harris.
On Dec. 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Fredrick Dow Fortney, who
preceded her in death on July 24, 1994. They were married for 53 years.
Winiferd’s life was her family, having been survived by two daughters, Linda
Kay Ferguson and husband Lynn, and Lenora Lea Channell and husband, Nick; four
sons, Larry Earl Fortney and wife Betty, Loren Dow Fortney and wife Anita, Lynn
Fredrick Fortney and Lewis James Fortney and wife, Debbie; one brother, Clarence
Harris; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Smith.
In addition, she is survived by 11 grandchildren, Rick, Randy, Joe, Lynn, Nicka,
Brian, Paul, Nathan, Melissa, Marcia and Tiffany; and six great-grandchildren,
Heather, Lucas, Emma, Emily, Jeremiah and Talia. Also surviving are several
nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were two sisters, Wilda
Pratt and Othella Wentz; one half sister; five brothers, Wilson, Arthur, Lenord,
Lawrence and Orin Harris; and two half brothers.
Winiferd was a cook at the Pickens Logging Camp. She was well known for cleaning
houses around the Elkins area. She then went to work for Davis Memorial Hospital
in the Dietary Department and retired in 1976.
Winiferd was one of the original members of the Randolph County Cancer Care
Corp. and was presented a certificate of appreciation on June 15, 1966.
Mrs. Fortney attended the Israel United Methodist Church and enjoyed having
coffee on Saturday mornings at Ye Olde Donut Shoppe with her daughter, Linda,
and friends.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home today after 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner Chapel on Thursday at 11 a.m.
The Rev. J.D. Conley, preacher of the Goff Street Church of Christ, will

Geneva C. Foster
Geneva C. Foster, 88, a resident of old Route 77, Galloway, died Saturday
morning, Dec. 20, 2003, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born July 13, 1915, at Ten Mile community near Belington, the daughter
of the late Perry Isaac and Eva Wagner Gour.
On June 17, 1938, she was married to James Randolph Foster, who preceded her in
death in June 1970.
Surviving are six daughters, Christine Farris of Brownton, Aneta Mae Farris of
Philippi, Elnor Rose McCurdy and Carol Sue Marks, both of Galloway, Patricia Ann
Dobbins of McKees Rocks, Pa., and Edith Marie Starkey of the Astor community;
four sons, Raymond Lee Foster of Galloway, James Ronald Foster of Manassas, Va.,
Roger Foster of Brownton and Richard Gour Foster of Conroe, Texas.; one brother,
Junior Forrest Gour, address unknown; 35 grandchildren, several
stepgrandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Roy Neal Foster; two sisters, Velva
Gour Hunt and Bessie Mae Gour Manos; two brothers, Monzell Gour and Calvin Isaac
Gour; and one grandson, James R. Farris Jr.
Mrs. Foster was a homemaker and was a member of the Valley Bend Baptist Church.

George Franklin Foster, 76, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life
Thursday evening, March 27, 2003, at Tucker Community Care in Parsons. He had
been in failing health.

George F. Foster
George Franklin Foster, 76, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life
Thursday evening, March 27, 2003, at the Tucker Community Care in Parsons. He
had been in his usual health and death was attributed to a massive stroke.
He was born April 10, 1926, at Elk, a son of the late Early Foster and Texie
Carr Foster.
On June 21, 1947, at Oakland, Md., he married the former Violet Mae Bright, who
preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 2002.
He is survived by two sons, Larry Eugene Foster of Hendricks, and Rodney Ray
Foster of Elkins; three brothers, Earl Foster and Bill Foster, both of Oakland,
Md., and Marvin Foster of Delaware; one sister, Janet Wilt of Oakland, Md.; and
two grandchildren, Mandi Foster, a student at Fairmont State College, and
Michael Foster of Elkins.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by one brother, John Foster,
and one granddaughter, Tina Marie Foster.
He attended the one-room school at Elk and was a member of the Parsons Church of
God. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. He was
a farmer and worked as a trackman for Western Maryland Railroad for 32 years.
A graveside service will be conducted at the Parsons City Cemetery on Sunday at
1 p.m. Pastor Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow. The Barb

Hobart Foster Jr.
Hobart Foster Jr., 68, of Route 2, Belington, died Thursday morning, Aug. 7,
2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins following a brief illness.
He is survived by Lady Ann Byrne Poster, his wife of 42 years. The couple was
married in Philippi on Sept. 11, 1960.
Also surviving is a son, Jerry L. Foster and wife, Coty B. Foster, of Route 2,
Shinnston (Boothsville), and one aunt, Apollene and husband, Lester Richardson,
of Bracey, Va..
"Junior" Foster was born in Belington on Sept. 30, 1934, the only
child of the late Hobart and Monta Corrick Foster. He graduated from Belington
High School and attended Fairmont State College for two years. He held a valid
apprentice embalmer and funeral director license.
Foster was a retired insurance salesman with Peoples Security Insurance Co. in
Elkins. He also has served as an assistant manager for the company and had
received national top quality sales awards and was a top salesman for Peoples
Security Life in 1968. He was formerly advertising manager for Barbour
Publishing Co. He also worked for a brief time for Bruce Mining and was a
weather observer in Belington for the National Weather Service.
Foster was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Belington of which
he was a former trustee. He was a member of the Belington Lodge 125 AF & AM,
Eastern Star Chapter 68 and Tygarts Valley Life Insurance Association. He was a
member of the Belington Volunteer Fire Department for more than 38 years,
retiring as an assistant fire chief.
Foster served in the U.S. Air Force and was crew chief on a C-124 cargo plane in
Hawaii. He was a member of Elkins Post 29 American Legion.
In 1991, Foster was a liver transplant recipient, having the surgery at the
University of Virginia Health Science Center Medical Center in Charlottesville,
Va.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home in Philippi after 4 p.m.
Saturday and 8 a.m. until noon Sunday, at which time Mr. Foster will be moved to
the Asbury United Methodist Church at Belington where friends will be received
from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the service hour. The Rev. Arden Beck will officiate.

William R. Fowler
William R. Fowler, 62, a resident of Holbrook Nursing Home of Buckhannon and
formerly of the Tennerton community, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at the
nursing home.
He was born April 22, 1941, at Indian Camp, a son of the late Howard and Lois
Marie Snyder Fowler.
Surviving are one daughter, Nicole Fowler, Charleston; one brother, David Wayne
Fowler, Buckhannon; two nieces, Sandy Betler and Carol Annette Fowler; and two
nephews, Jeff Fowler and Timothy Lee Fowler.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Franklin Fowler and Donald Max
Fowler; and two sisters, Wanda Marie Fowler and Joanne Makin.
Private services will be held at the Upshur County Memorial Park at a later

Sharon R. Frame, 64, of Frametown, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at her home.
She was born March 24, 1939, in Gilmer County, the daughter of the late Trader
B. and Thelma Ferrell Tallman.
She was an employee of the Braxton County Board of Education, the owner and
operator of Sharon’s Store, a mail carrier, and a member of the Rosedale
United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
She was instrumental in starting the Frametown Volunteer Fire Department, was
involved in the Foster Grandparent Program, was a member of the Woman’s Club
of Gassaway and served on the Braxton County Senior Citizens Committee.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Norman L. Frame; two sons, Scott Frame of
Morgantown and Brian Frame of Frametown; one daughter, Stephanie Frame of
Huttonsville; one brother, Paul W. “Bill” Tallman of Wilsie; four sisters,
Connie Heintzman of Sistersville, Charlotte Allen of Leroy, Carol Kimble of
Glenville and Tamara Pritt of Kenova; three grandchildren, Brianna Ruth
“Pippi” Frame, Leah Christine Frame and Jason Patrick Frame; and several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel F. Tallman.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Richard M. Roach Funeral
Home in Gassaway with the Rev. Rich Demastus officiating. Friends may call from

Ruth Q. Francis
Ruth Queen Francis, 84, of Fairfax City, Va., died Sunday, June 29, 2003, in her
home, after a short illness.
She was born Sept. 19, 1918, in the Brushy Fork community, Upshur County, a
daughter of Ernest Mead Queen and Grace Kathryn Fultz.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Powers; and a brother, Kenneth
Queen.
She is survived by one brother, Quay Queen of Spruce Fork, Upshur County; her
husband, Clifford Francis of Fairfax, Va.; one son, Larry Francis of Fauquier
County, Va.; one daughter, June Kuprijanow of Fairfax County, Va.; six
grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was a graduate of the Buckhannon-Upshur High School class of 1939. She was a
member of the Brushy Fork Community Club and a member of the Reger Chapel United
Methodist Church.
Friends will be received Wednesday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home from 6 p.m.
to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Reger Chapel
Church and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Poling-St. Clair Funeral

Cathryn Franz
Cathryn Lackey Sayers Franz, 47, of 129 Camden Ave., Buckhannon, where she made
her home with her sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Chester Chewning, passed
away Sunday morning, Oct. 26, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Born Jan. 23, 1956, in Dayton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James and
Mary W. Alden Lackey.
Surviving are two daughters, Vivian Holt of Springborn, Ohio, and Alicia Sayers
of College Corners, Ind.; five sons, Scott Lackey of Somerville, Benjamin Holt
of Bowling Green, Ohio, James Holt of Morehead, Ky., Matthew Sayers of College
Corners, Ind., and Nathan Sayers; two sisters, Laura Chewning of Buckhannon and
Nancy Ohlson of Ontario, Calif.; and one brother, William Lackey of Dayton,
Ohio.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was a manager for Burger King.
At the request of the deceased, the remains were cremated. A memorial service
will be announced at a later date. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of

Bernard A. Freeman
Bernard Allen “Little John” Freeman, 64, a resident of Junior, departed
this life at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2003, in the Louis A. Johnson Medical
Center in Clarksburg. He had been in failing health for quite sometime.
He was born Feb. 13, 1939, in Randolph County, the son of Bernard Earl
“Johnny” Freeman of Junior and the late Chlora Estaline Row Freeman.
In addition to his father, he is survived by three brothers, Joel Freeman and
wife, Tammy, and Owen “Mickey” Freeman and wife, Paula, all of Junior, and
Richard Freeman and wife, Cindy, of Penn, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Freeman attended the schools of Barbour and Randolph counties, was currently
disabled, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended the Weaver Church of the
Nazarene.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 p.m. to
9 p.m. today and on Friday until 1 p.m., the funeral hour when services will be
conducted from the funeral home parlor. The Rev. Doyle N. Rider will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery at Belington where the
presentation of the American flag will be conduced by American Legion Post 44 of
Philippi. The Talbott Funeral Home of Belington is in charge of the arrangements

Marguerite J. Freeman
Marguerite Jane Freeman, 88, of Route 1, Moatsville, died Tuesday morning,
March 18, 2003, at the home of a daughter in Scottsboro, Ala. Her death followed
an extended illness.
She was born Nov. 19, 1914, at Moatsville, a daughter of the late Thomas
Alexander and Dora Catherine Ritter Cline.
Her husband, Ira Delbert Freeman, preceded her in death on May 31, 1950.
Surviving are three daughters, Wilma Davis and husband, Dwight, Camp Mahonegan,
Genalee Shuman and husband, Raymond W. Jordan, Utah, and Loretta P. Norris and
husband, James, Scottsboro, Ala; four sons, Murl R. Freeman and wife, Nancy,
Thornton, Lowell C. Freeman and wife, Shirley, Ira D. Freeman and wife, Jean,
and Gary R. Freeman and wife, Wanda, all of Moatsville; one brother, Dowden
Cline, Jacksboro, Tenn.; one sister, Myrtle Haller Moore, Montrose; 25
grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Darl Freeman; two sisters,
Mabel V. Moats and Gretchen Madeline Cline; and two brothers, Thelmar Cline and
Thomas A. Cline.
Mrs. Freeman was a retired cook and had worked in several area restaurants
including the Philippi Inn, the Del Mar Restaurant and the Tavern Restaurant.
While residing in Alabama, she attended the Church of the Nazarene. Mrs. Freeman
was an avid church goer and loved singing in church. She was also a seamstress
and enjoyed quilting.

Ramon Durl Freeman, 77, of Route 2, Belington, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in
the Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 2, 1925, at Moatsville, the son of the late Coda Ray and Hazel
Moore Freeman.
On Aug. 20, 1949, he married the former Ina Grace Price, who preceded him in
death on May 27, 2002.
Surviving are one son, Wayne D. Freeman and wife, Judy, of Belington; three
daughters, Macel Louise Auvil and husband, Roger, and Gracie Marie Freeman, all
of Philippi, Judy Ann Hymes and husband, Jack, of Belington; five grandchildren,

Mr. Freeman was a retired coal miner and served as minister of the Moatsville
Free Gospel Church for 40 years. He attended the Moatsville Free Gospel Church
and regularly attended services at Cortland Acres. He enjoyed farming,
ministering and helping his neighbors.
Friends may call at the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from noon
until 9 p.m. Tuesday and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., when Mr.
Freeman will be moved to the Moatsville Free Gospel Church where friends may

Paul Edward Freeman, 76, of Canal Fulton, Ohio, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, in
the Country Lawn Nursing Home in Navarre, Ohio, following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 20, 1927, at Moatsville, Barbour County, the son of the late
Coda Ray and Hazel Moore Freeman.
His wife, the former Dorothy May Shaffer, preceded him in death on Oct. 24,
1994.
Surviving are two sons, Keith Freeman of Massillon, Ohio, and Freddie Freeman of
Ft. Blackmore, Va.; four daughters, Kathleen Coombs of Alderson, Charlotte Ullom
of Massillon, Theresa Boyles of Raleigh, N.C., and Lela Gantz of Canal Fulton;
seven brothers, Herbert Freeman of Akron, Ohio, Robert Freeman of Columbus, Ga.,
George “Bud” Freeman of Belington, Tommy Freeman of Montrose, Kenneth
Freeman of Thomas, Richard Freeman of Philippi and Sammy Freeman of Moatsville;
four sisters, Doris Streets of Baltimore, Md., Betty Frey of Moatsville, Colleen
Frey of Belington, and Anna Lou Shaw of Washington, Pa.; 14 grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Bell Freeman; and by one
brother, Ramon Durl Freeman.
Mr. Freeman was a retired concrete finisher and was a member of the Massillon
Baptist Temple.

Mildred Gail Frey
Mildred Gail Frey, 90, a resident of the Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care
Facility, formerly of Baughman Towers and Route 1, Moatsville, died Saturday,
Dec. 6, 2003, in the Broaddus Hospital Acute Care Facility following an extended
illness.
She was born Aug. 12, 1913, at Crellin, Md., the daughter of the late Albert and
Addie Martin Uphold.
Her husband, Floyd Thamer Frey, preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1965.
Surviving are two sons, John Thomas “Tom” Frey, of Moatsville, and Darl
Eugene “Bevo” Frey of Philippi; four stepsons, Ralph “Chick” Frey and
Charles “Boomer” Frey, both of Belington, George “Gus” Frey and Harold
“Enoch” Frey, both of Moatsville; two stepdaughters, Margaret “Babe”
Marsh of Moatsville and Edith Marsh of Philippi; eight grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; 21 stepgrandchildren; several
stepgreat-grandchildren and several stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Donald N. Semmelman and Louis D.
Semmelman; by two stepsons, Floyd Thamer “Bus” Frey Jr. and Bob “Grapy”
Frey; one stepdaughter, Christine Morris; one sister, Bernice Ritter; one
brother, Howard Clayton Morris; one half brother, Henry Claypool; and one
grandson, William Semmelman.
Mrs. Frey was a former cook in the Kasson School and Campbell’s Dairy King.
She served as a senior companion.
She was a member of Philippi Chapter 41 Order of the Eastern Star, the Barbour
County Senior Citizens and Nestorville United Methodist Church.
Friends were received at the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from
2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, when funeral
services were conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Kenny Kendall

Joseph C. Furgione
Joseph Charles Furgione, 84, of Philippi, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, died
early Tuesday morning, July 1, 2003, in Davis Memorial Hospital, following an
extended illness.
He was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Hammonton, N.J., a son of the late Charles Pasquale
and Mary Antoinette (Cione) Furgione.
His wife, Patty “Elsie (Sutton) Furgione, preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Lana Jo Shockey and husband, Larry, Philippi;
three grandchildren, Tanya Slaton, Fredericksburg, Va., Gil Joseph Blake,
Philippi, and Sherry Kay Furgione, Morgantown; three great-grandchildren,
Michael Brent Slaton, Daniel Joseph Blake and Joseph Montana Slaton; two
brothers, Anthony Furgione, Chesilhurst, N.J., and Robert Furgione, Mays
Landing, N.J.; three sisters, Helen Capri, Edgewater Park, N.J., Alice Bastein,
Thorofare, N.J., and Mary Lou Wigginton, Deptford, N.J.
He was preceded in death by one son, Joey Furgione; one granddaughter, Theresa
Illene Daugherty; and his former wife, Madalyn T. (Campbell) Furgione Anderson.
Mr. Furgione retired as a printer-typesetter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer
Newspaper. He had also worked for several area publishers including Barbour
Publishing Co., Clarksburg Publishing Co. and the Fairmont Times-West Virginian.
Mr. Furgione was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was
involved in the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. On Sept. 9,
2001, he received the Medal of Freedom from the French people. He was a member
of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in New Jersey.

9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, when Mr. Furgione will be
moved to the Philippi United Methodist Church, where friends may call from noon

Betty Furman
Betty Ann Bennett Furman, 71, a resident of Route 1, Elkins, departed this
life Sunday afternoon, June 1, 2003, at the Davis Memorial Hospital. She had
been in declining health.

Betty B. Furman
Betty Ann Bennett Furman, 71, a resident of Route 1, Elkins, departed this
life Sunday afternoon, June 1, 2003, at the Davis Memorial Hospital. She had
been in declining health for the past several years.
She was born Wednesday, May 4, 1932, in Anniston, Ala., the daughter of the late
Melvin Bennett and Grace Davis Bennett Roberts.
On Oct. 18, 1976, at Tampa, Fla., she married John Barry Furman, who preceded
her in death on April 30, 2001.
Surviving are one son, Weldon T. Wright and wife, Linda, Lutz, Fla.; one
daughter, G’na G. Stephens and husband, David, Elkins; one stepbrother, Joe
Roberts and wife, Joyce, Gardendale, Ala; and three grandchildren, Dawn
Caulfield, Matt Stephens and Kristin Wright.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Franklin Bennett.
She was a graduate of Anniston High School at Anniston, Ala., was a piano and
vocal teacher and retired in 1985, and was a member of the Woodford Memorial
United Methodist Church, where she had served as the former choir director and a
member of the Handbell Choir. She was an avid baseball fan of the Atlanta
Braves.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 7 p.m.
to 9 p.m. today. On Wednesday morning, Mrs. Furman will be moved to the Woodford
Memorial United Methodist Church where final rites will be conducted at 11 a.m.
The Rev. Dr. Daniel Bryan will officiate and interment will follow at the
Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The family suggests that expressions
of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Woodford Memorial United
Methodist Church Youth Fund, 113 First St., Elkins, W.Va., 26241. The Lohr &
Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Betty Ann Bennett Furman.

Betty M. Furr
Betty Maureen Furr, 57, of 76 Farland Drive, Weston, died Thursday, Feb. 6,
2003, at her home.
She was born Aug. 25, 1945, in Buckhannon, a daughter of Pelton Scott and Dorsy
F. Hinkle Mick.
She married Larry Furr, who survives in Weston.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry Matthew Furr and Jonathan Mick Furr, both of
Weston; three brothers, Billee Scott Mick, Buckhannon, Felton Junior Mick,
Bullhead, Ariz., and Clinton L. Mick, Hackers Creek; three sisters, Millee Mae
Adams, Easton, Pa., Caroline Fern Jones, New Philadelphia, Ohio, and Shirely Ann
Messenger, Berlin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, George Oscar Mick, Thomas Orestus
Mick and Jesse Adam Mick.
She was an economic specialist for Health & Human Resources. She attended
Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair
Funeral Home.
On Monday, she will be moved to Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, where
she will lie in state from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev.
Mary Ellen Finegan and the Rev. Bonnie Starkey officiating. Interment will
follow in Mick Family Cemetery at Hackers Creek. From 7 Feb
