Michael L. Edman
Michael Lee Edman, 15, a resident of Kingsport, Tenn., passed away Tuesday
evening, July 22, 2003, as a result of a injuries sustained when struck by an
automobile while crossing the street in Weber City, Va.
He was born May 5, 1988, in Baltimore, Md., a son of Shelly Ann Thompson of
Kingsport, Tenn., and Thomas Charles Thompson of Junior.
Also surviving are one sister, Misty Dawn Edman and twin sister, Megan Ann Edman,
both of Kingsport, Tenn.; grandparents, Willard and Margaret Swisher of Beverly,
and Bernie and Helen Edman of Parkersburg; several uncles and aunts, including
Tom Swisher, Elkins, Richard Swisher, Beverly, Crystal Swisher, Beverly, Owen
Swisher, Elkins, Melinda Lasley, Kingsport, Tenn., and Doris and Mike Williams
of Elkins. Several cousins and two close friends, Brooks Parks of Elkins and
Tommy Jennings of Kingsport, Tenn., also survive.
Preceding him in death was his biological father, Michael Lee Edman.
He was a student at John Sevier Middle School in Kingsport, Tenn., and was a
former student at Elkins Middle School. He was well known as the “Beaver
Boy.” He was a bright, humorous boy who lit up the room with his smile. He
enjoyed hunting, fishing and chilling with his friends.
Friends may call from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in
Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the funeral home
chapel with Pastor Terry Burgess officiating. Interment will follow in the K of
P Cemetery near Junior. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the

Floyd H. Edmond
Floyd H. Edmond, 86, of Martinsburg, passed away Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at the
Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Born March 16, 1917, in Norton, he was the son of the late William W. Edmond and
Melissa Trussler Edmond.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen F. Edmond of Martinsburg and Floyd E. Edmond
of Arizona; two daughters, Sheila Morris of Bowling Green, Va., and Brenda C.
Bartley of Martinsburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith P. Pringle Edmond; four sisters, Ivy
Phillips, Maude Moore, Rosie Edmond and Kathleen Roy; and four brothers,
Charley, Denzil, Merrill and Ervin Edmond.
He was a retired kitchen supervisor for the Veterans Administration Medical
Center. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in
Martinsburg and the Martinsburg American Legion.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Rosedale Funeral
Home in Martinsburg where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday. Burial will
follow in the Pleasant View Memory Gardens. Martinsburg Combined Honor Guard

Frank Burton Elbon
Frank Burton Elbon, 83, a resident of Route 9, Box 455, Buckhannon, died
Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 19, 1920, at Sago, the son of the late Grover Elbon and
Elizabeth Simmons Elbon.
In 1948 he was married to JoAnne Winemiller Elbon, who survives.
Surviving are four daughters, Nancy Elbon, Buckhannon, Patty McQuain and
husband, Jack, Buckhannon, Polly Turner and husband, Jack, Buckhannon, and Carol
Grose and husband, Bob, Buckhannon; three sons, Steven Elbon and wife, Sherry,
Buckhannon, Bert Elbon and wife, Marie, Vian, Okla., and Jim Elbon and wife,
Emily, Niles, Ohio; two sisters, Lois Jean Masters, Westminster, Md., and Carda
Elbon, Maryland; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Kay Elbon, four brothers, Joe
Elbon, John Elbon, Ralph Elbon and Woodrow Elbon; and one sister, Glenna Elbon.
Mr. Elbon was a saw mill operator and served in the U.S. Army during World War
II. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
He was a member of the Sago Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the
French Creek Chapter 36 of Disabled American Veterans.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Poling-St. Clair
Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday. Interment will be
in the Elbon Cemetery at Sago.

Norma C. Elliott
Norma Connolly Elliott, 69, of Charleston, passed away at CAMC Memorial,
after a short illness of cancer and surrounded by her son and loved ones, on
Thursday, June 5, 2003. She was formerly of Bluefield and a native of
Greensboro, N.C.
She was a graduate of Beaver High School in Bluefield. She attended West
Virginia University and the College of Graduate Studies. She was a member of the
First Presbyterian Church. She had 22 years of service as chief clerk with the
Attorney General’s office of the state of West Virginia. She was the former
society editor for Sunset News in Bluefield. She was named to the Outstanding
Young Women of America in 1965, and a member and past president of Bluefield

solicitations in Bluefield from 1964-1965; a state parliamentarian, Izaak Walton

Virginia Federation of Women’s Clubs, state Continuing Education Chairman from
1996-1998, state Women in the Arts chairman from 1998-2000, keeper of records
from 2000-2002, Capitol District, State Convention chairman in 1986, state
Beautification Chairman, Conservation Department from 1988-1990, state

She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude G. and Alma V. Connonlly of
Bluefield; her husband, William B. Elliott, of Charleston, and Green Bank; and
one daughter, Darrance Woodrum Brookshire of Charleston.
She is survived by her son, Robert Connolly Woodrum of Charlotte, N.C.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home with
Raui Isiah, chaplain of CAMC officiating. Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.

Norma Connolly Elliott, 69, of Charleston, passed away at CAMC Memorial after a

1988-1990 and was in the state leadership development division from 1992-1994.
She was a charter member and past president of GFWC Centennial Junior Alumnae
Club, was a member of GFWC Woman’s Club of Charleston, was a charter member of
GFWC of Possum Creek Improvement Society — State of West Virginia, was a
member of GSWC Capitol District on Bylaws Committee, was a Bridge Club charter
member and member of the GSWC Capitol Bridge Club and was a member of third
Wednesday Woman’s Club Bridge Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude G. and Alma V. Connolly of
Bluefield; her husband, William B. Elliott, of Charleston and Green Bank; and
one daughter, Darrance Woodrum Brookshire of Charleston.
She is survived by her son, Robert Connolly Woodrum of Charlotte, N.C.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home with

Marcella “Marcie” Ellison, 65, of Petersburg, and formerly of Baltimore,
Md., died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The body will be cremated. A memorial services will be at Schaeffer Funeral Home
Saturday at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating. From 29

Mary E. Elza
Mary Ethel Elza, 84, a resident of Harman, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003,
at 10:46 a.m. in Charleston Area Medical Hospital-Memorial Division, where she
was admitted Friday morning. She had been in failing health for the past three
years, however, death was sudden and unexpected. Death was attributed to cancer.
She was born March 11, 1918, in Randolph County, a daughter of the late George
and Daisy Gordon.
She was united in marriage to Carl J. Elza, who preceded her in death in 1958.
Surviving are four daughters, Phyllis Webb of Harman, Winfred Kuhn of Keyser,
Sharon Crossland and husband, Allen, of Davis, and Nancy Arbogast and husband,
Ron, of Dryfork; four sons, Max Elza and wife, Sandra, Norman Elza and wife,
Carolyn, Douglas Elza and wife, Linda, all of Elkins, and Carl “Jeff” Elza
and wife, Jimmie, of Harman.
Also surviving are several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, two
great-great-grandchildren, several stepgrandchildren and several nieces and
nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and was preceded in
death by one son, Robert Warren Elza; one sister, Martha Gordon Gear; six
brothers, Marvin, Virgil, Preston, Emerson, Vernon and Ivan “Pat” Gordon;
and three grandsons, Allen “Ab” Elza, Eric Elza and Chris Sanders.
She was a homemaker. She loved sewing and quilting and was a good cook. She was
a member of the Randolph County Senior Center and attended the Dryfork Assembly
of God Church.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel today after 6 p.m.
On Tuesday, Mrs. Elza will be moved to the Dryfork Assembly of God for
visitation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Kenneth
Plaster, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the

Robert J. Elza
Robert Joe “Bobby Joe” Elza, 46, a former resident of Cherokee County,
Ga., then of 1424 Cedar Crest Drive, Huntington, and more recently of Whitmer
where he made his home with his cousin, Randy Elza for the past month, departed
this life early Friday morning, April 11, 2003, at his home after an eight-month
battle with cancer.
He was born Friday, Dec. 28, 1956, at Elkins, a son of the late Bobby Elwood
Elza and Anna Ruth Hamilton Elza Hanks, who survives at Huntington.
On Sept. 25, 1987, at Woodstock, Canada, he was married to the former Freda Jean
Cabe, who survives at Whitmer.
Also surviving are one son, Robert Joe “Robbie” Elza II, Huntington; one
sister, Vickie Lee Elza Collins, and husband, Jack, Huntington; one
granddaughter, Alyssa Michelle Elza, Tampa, Fla.; four aunts, Betty Vance and
husband, Guy, Patricia Armentrout and husband, Ronnie, Wilma VanDevender and
husband, Oral, and Linda Dundley and husband, Jim, all of Whitmer; one uncle,
Dale Elza and wife, Mary, Whitmer; one nephew, Jason Burdette, Huntington; one
niece and four nephews in Georgia and three sisters-in-law and three
brothers-in-law in Georgia.
Preceding him in death besides his father were his maternal grandparents, Blaine
and Jane Hamilton; his paternal grandparents, Joseph Howard and Bertha Mae Lamb
Elza; and six aunts, Mrs. Neil “Betty” Roy, Mrs. Clare “Irene” Shannon,
Eva Simmons, Mrs. Eustace “Peggy” Mills, Mrs. Ivan “Juanita” Hodges and
Mrs. Red “Dorothy” Adkins; and one uncle, Blane Hamilton.
He attended the schools of Cabell County and was an avid sports fan. He had
worked as a cab driver and dispatcher in Georgia and later as a packing clerk
for the Materials for Packing Co. at Georgia.

Irene M. Embeck
Irene Mary Judy Embeck, 81, a resident of 4 Bell St., Elkins, and of Bemis,
departed this life Thursday afternoon, June 5, 2003, at Nella’s Nursing Home.
She had been in declining health for the past year.
She was born Saturday, Feb. 11, 1922, at Randolph County, a daughter of the late
William John Judy and Theresa C. Essex Judy.
She was married to Carl W. Embeck, who survives at Nella’s Nursing Home. They
had celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one adopted son, Robert Embeck; one brother, Glen Judy; and
two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Carl Embeck; seven brothers, Carl,
Ernie, Herschel, Jim, Raymond, Gerald and Charlie Embeck; and one sister, Hazel
Harney.
She was a homemaker.

Reta Myers England
Reta Myers England, 94, a lifelong resident of
Belington and a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, for
the past three years, departed this life 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at the
center. She had been in declining health for the past three months.
She was born Aug. 16, 1908, in Belington, the
daughter of the late George and Frances Myers.
On Dec. 22, 1924, at Belington, she was united
in marriage to Stephen Holt England, who preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1961.
She is survived by four daughters, Dorothy
Louise Cross and husband, Bernard, of Belington, Norma Lee Wooldridge and
husband, Elmer, of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Loverine Virginia Ware and husband, Lonnie,
of Belington, and Joann Winslow of Century and a loving friend, Gene Everson of
Belington.
Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, several
great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was
preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters and one great-grandson.
Mrs. England attended the schools of Barbour
County, as a homemaker and was a member of the Westside United Methodist Church
in Belington.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral
home in Belington on Thursday from noon until 1 p.m., when final rites will be
conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Arden Beck officiating.
Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery at Belington. The family asks that

to Mountain Hospice, Crim Avenue, Belington, W.Va., 26250.

Betty A. Eskew
Betty Ann Long Eskew, 71, a resident of Route 4, Elkins, departed this life
Sunday morning, June 15, 2003, at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center. She
had been in declining health.
She was born Sunday, June 5, 1932, at Hillsboro, a daughter of the late Price
Long and Gertrude Heffner Long.
On Oct. 12, 1956, at Elkins, she was married to Virgil Loraine Eskew, who
survives. They had celebrated 46 years of marriage.
Also surviving are three daughters, Cheryl Ann Turnes and husband, Garry, of
Dunbar, Judith Eskew Oliver and husband, Robert, of Washington, D.C., and Norma
Eskew Dove of Montgomery, Ala.; one brother, Edward Long and wife, Doris, of
Valley Head; one sister, Jean Lee Long of Dailey; and two grandchildren, Ashley
Ann Dove and Portia Camille Oliver.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Patterson Long.
She was a graduate of Beverly High School with the class of 1950, and had been a
member of the Glee Club. Prior to her marriage she had served as youth director
of the Valley Bend Presbyterian Church. She worked for the W.T. Grant Co. for
six years, Parkview Motel for two years, Nella’s Nursing Home for three years
and was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Woodford Memorial United
Methodist Church where she had served as a former Vacation Bible School
director, children’s coordinator for the Sunday School department and as a
Sunday School teacher.

p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home

Lillie Eskew, 91, of 34 Hampton Road, Buckhannon, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at
St. Joseph’s Hospital NCF in Buckhannon.
She was born April 28, 1912, at French Creek, the daughter of the late Stanley
Beecher Riggleman and Ibbie Waugh Riggleman.
On Dec. 25, 1957, she was married to Willie Ernest Eskew, who preceded her in
death.
Surviving are one daughter, Rita Gallo of Stormville, N.Y.; seven grandchildren;
13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, David Riggleman; three brothers,
Orton Riggleman, Orval Riggleman and William Riggleman; two sisters, Madge
McCauley and Nora Wilt; and one son, Glen Riggleman.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Sand Run Baptist Church.
Friends will be received from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Poling-St. Clair
Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Robert

Georgia Rose Meader Evans, 89, a former resident of Trona, Calif., the Tygart
Hotel apartments and more recently of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center,

She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in
death by two brothers, John and James Meader; one foster brother, Arthur Teter;
two sisters, Mary Propst and Hazel Meader; and one grandchild.
She attended the schools of Randolph County. She was a former member of the
Ladies Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Trona, Calif., a member of Saint
Brendan Catholic Church and she was a homemaker.

Kent Taylor Evans Jr., 88, of Route 2, Belington, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, in
Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 29, 1914, at Elkins, a son of the late Kent Taylor Sr. and
Della D. (Lantz) Evans.
On May 15, 1939, he married the former Elizabeth Amanda Corley, who preceded him
in death on Oct. 3, 1989.
Surviving are three sons, Tom and wife, Marcella Evans, New Comerstown, Ohio,
Bob and wife, Teresa Evans, Belington, and Bruce Allen Evans, Akron, Ohio; five
daughters, Jane Weese, Effie and husband, Joe Chapman, all of Philippi, Mary Ann
Lake and Fred, Hillsboro, Ohio, Judy and husband, Kenny Marsh, Janet and
husband, Eugene Auvil, all of Belington; one brother, Enoch John Evans,
Clarksburg; 27 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Lela Hart, Jane Bolton, Grace

Kent T. Evans Jr.
Kent Taylor Evans Jr., 88, of Route 2, Belington, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, in
Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 29, 1914, at Elkins, a son of the late Kent Taylor Sr. and
Della D. (Lantz) Evans.
On May 15, 1939, he married the former Elizabeth Amanda Corley, who preceded him
in death on Oct. 3, 1989.
Surviving are three sons, Tom and wife, Marcella Evans, New Comerstown, Ohio,
Bob and wife, Teresa Evans, Belington, and Bruce Allen Evans, Akron, Ohio; five
daughters, Jane Weese, Effie and husband, Joe Chapman, all of Philippi, Mary Ann
Lake and Fred, Hillsboro, Ohio, Judy and husband, Kenny Marsh, and Janet and
husband, Eugene Auvil, all of Belington; one brother, Enoch John Evans,
Clarksburg; 27 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Lela Hart, Jane Bolton, Grace
White and Mary Martha Roberts; three brothers, Herman K. Evans and twin infant
brothers; one granddaughter; one great-grandchild; and a son-in-law, Norman
"Eddie" Weese.

Leonard R. Evans
Leonard Ray Evans, 62, a resident of the Blackman Flats community, Hambleton,

Leonard R. Evans
Leonard Ray Evans, 62, a resident of the Blackman Flats community, Hambleton,

He was born April 20, 1941, at Leadmine, a son of Mabel Knotts Evans, who
survives at Leadmine, and the late Glennis Dale “Bus” Evans.
Also surviving are one brother, Milton Evans and wife, Eloise, of Thomas, three
sisters, Twyla Auvil and husband, Troy, of Scott Depot, Loretta Mills and
husband, Jim, Springfield, and Barbara Miller and husband, Mont, of Parsons; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton Dale Evans and Denzil Earl
Evans.
He attended the Pine Grove School at Leadmine and was a graduate of Thomas High
School. He was an employee with Doug Pennington Construction. He was a veteran
of the U.S. Army. He loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. He loved
hunting, fishing and digging for wild ginseng.
The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home from 3 p.m.
to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the
funeral home parlor Friday at 2 p.m. Pastor Alvin Irons and Pastor Neil Parsons
will officiate and interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows.

Mary Kathryn Markwood Evans, 80, of Petersburg, died Monday, March 10, 2003,
at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Md.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at
Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the
funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Lahmansville Cemetery at

Ruby K. Evans
Ruby K. Evans, 77, of Buckhannon, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, in St. Joseph’s
Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Virgil Max
Marple and Zola Fitzgerald Marple.
On Jan. 6, 1945, she married Junior Evans, who survives in Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one son, Gary and wife, Inis Evans, Buckhannon; one grandson,
Jeromy and wife, Jamie Evans, Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Dee and husband,
Cole Garrett, Hodgesville; two great-grandsons, Cody Garrett and Cade Garrett,
both of Hodgesville; and a sister-in-law, Angeline Marple, Hodgesville.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Delana Harris Evans; and a
brother, Lyndell Max Marple.
She was a secretary for the board of education and a secretary for Moore’s
Business Forms and an Upshur County School teacher. She was a member of Heaston
United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Thursday from 2 p.m.
to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home
chapel Friday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Holly J. Hoover and Pastor Bonnie Starkey
officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery at Buckhannon. From

Aimee L. Everson
Aimee Lynn Vest Everson, 26, of Belington, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 29,
2003, as a result of injuries received in a single-vehicle accident in
Belington.
She was born Aug. 8, 1977, at Elkins, the daughter of Steven Lynn Vest, who
survives in the Jimtown community, and Pamela Sue Trusler
James, who survives at St. Petersburg, Fla.; and the stepdaughter of Vincent
James of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Also surviving are two children, Ricky Joe Everson and Caitlyn Victoria Sue
Everson, both at home; her maternal grandparents, Veldon “Joe” and Ernestine
“Tina” Trusler McDonald of Belington; five uncles, Kenny Vest, Junior Vest
and wife, Wanda, John Vest and wife, Bobbie, Jimmy Vest and wife, Frieda, and
Paul Thorne; four aunts, Paula White and husband, Terry, Rachelle White,
Kimberly Mullenex and husband, Donnie, and Misty Ware and husband, Tommy.
She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Jacob Vest and Eugene Gibson
Vest Thorne; paternal great-grandparents, Martin and Flora Swick Vest and
Taswell and Edna Lanham Gibson; maternal great-grandparents, Cecil and Ethel
Weese McDonald and Homer and Mona Himes Trusler; and by an uncle, Willis White.
Ms. Everson was a graduate of Philip Barbour High School. She was employed as a
cook and waitress at Jamone’s in Junior.
She was a loving mother, daughter and granddaughter and will be sadly missed by
everyone she touched.

William Robert Everson, 74, of Route 2, Belington, died Friday, Dec. 26,
2003, at the home of his daughter following an extended illness.

William Robert Everson, 74, of Ten Mile community, Route 2, Belington, died
Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at the home of his daughter, where he had resided for the
past seven years. Death followed an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 29, 1929, at Philippi, the son of the late Walter and Susie C.
McKelrath Everson.
Surviving are one daughter, Doris Jean Wagner and husband, Danny; two sons,
Walter Ray Everson and wife, Sheryl, of Rainelle, and William Joseph Everson of
Belington; one brother, Mendel Murl Everson of Deerfield, Ohio; one sister,
Madeline Snyder of Avon Lake, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David Earl Everson and Michael Anthony
Everson; by one daughter, Patricia Louise Everson; by one sister, Marcelene
Moran; by two brothers, Isaac Earl Everson and Roger Lee Everson; and by one
granddaughter, Diana Marie Everson.
Mr. Everson was a former carpenter and river man. He was a veteran of the Korean
Conflict serving with the U.S. Army, and was a former member of the West
Virginia National Guard.
He was a life member of Laurel Mountain Post 410 Veterans of Foreign Wars in
Belington.
Friends were received at the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from
5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday. Graveside services were conducted at the Mt. Liberty
Cemetery at 11 a.m. today with the Rev. Downing Gregory officiating. Interment

Howard E. Exline
Howard E. Exline, 70, a resident of Route 2, Box 207, Buckhannon, died Saturday,
Dec. 27, 2003, at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
He was born Jan. 5, 1933, in Upshur County, the son of the late John Exline and
Opal Spore Exline.
His wife, Ruth E. Exline, preceded him in death on July 16, 2003.
Surviving are one son, Howard Eugene Exline Jr. of Alabama; one daughter, Cathy
Ours of Ellamore; two stepsons, Robert William Berry of Ohio and Eugene Douglas
Berry of Parkersburg; two stepdaughters, Sandra Hanning of Ohio and Diane Rourke,
address unknown; and three sisters, Martha Hiney of Linn, Cora Linger of
Philippi and Anna Robinson of Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, James Exline, William Exline and
Eddie Exline; and by one half brother, Grant Exline.
Mr. Exline was a truck driver and served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Buckhannon Union Mission Church.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Poling-St. Clair
Funeral Home where the Rev. Dennis Estes will present a few remarks during
visitation. At the request of the deceased, the remains will be cremated and no

Rosa Eye
Rosa Klee Eye, 95, of Hacker Valley, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 21,
2003, at Wooster Community Hospital in Ohio. Mrs. Eye resided with her sister in
Smithville, Ohio, for the last two months.
Rosa was born Jan. 4, 1908 near Hacker Valley. She lived most of her life at the
hilltop farm near Holly River State Park.
She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Anna Heller Klee.
In 1954, she married Ira Eye, who is deceased.
Rosa was employed at the Hub Store in Webster Springs, was restaurant manager at
Holly River State Park and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Charles (Thelma) Lee of Smithville, Ohio; two
brothers, Emil and Karl Klee, both of Webster Springs; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Jessie (Lena) Malcomb,
Mrs. Upton (Ida) Echard and Mrs. Ralph (Elsie) Burky; and one brother, John
William Klee.
Mrs. Eye was a Protestant by faith.
Friends may call at the Dodd & Reed Funeral Home in Webster Springs on
Friday from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Don Dugas of Ohio will
officiate. Burial will follow at the Hacker Valley Cemetery in Hacker Valley. In
lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Perpetual Care Fund, in care
