Lawrence Allen “Larbear” Ackerman, 32, of 154 Wood St., Buckhannon, died
Friday, March 7, 2003, at his home in Buckhannon.
He was born June 30, 1970, in Erie, Pa., a son of Ronald Ackerman Sr. and Linda
Carlson Ackerman, who survive in Sheffield, Pa.
Also surviving are three brothers, Ronald Ackerman Jr., Buckhannon, Thomas E.
Ackerman, Albion, Pa., and Martin Ackerman, Edinboro, Pa.; one sister, Melinda
Furry, Edinboro, Pa.; his maternal grandfather, Dwight Carlson, Tiona, Pa.; his
maternal grandmother, Katherine Boardman, Sheffield, Pa.; his paternal
grandmother, Edith Shallenbarger, Erie, Pa.; an aunt, Connie Ackerman,
Sheffield, Pa.; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a half sister, Vickie
Brown, Albion, Pa.
He was a truck driver. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Gulf War. He was a
member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, and the American Legion Post
11. He was a Christian by faith.
Friends were received Sunday at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral. At the
request of the deceased, his remains were cremated. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made to the funeral home for his expenses. From 10

Sharon S. Adair
Sharon Sue Tenney Adair, 62, of Sun Bridge Nursing Home, Glenville, died
Monday, April 7, 2003, at Stonewall Jackson, Weston.
She was born Oct. 22, 1940, at Hesper, a daughter of the late Melvin and Heloise
Tenney Tenney.
She married Kenneth Adair, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one aunt, Mary Veith, Buckhannon; and several cousins.
She was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home today from 6 p.m. to 8
p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 2 p.m.
with the Rev. Lloyd Tenney officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel

Arlton G. Adams
Arlton Glendale "Scotty" Adams, 86, of Elkins, and formerly of Trubie
Run, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Nella’s Inc.
He was born June 28, 1917, in Tallmansville, a son of the late Dee and Bessie
Adams.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Ray Adams and Robert Adams; a daughter, Patty
Adams; two brothers, John Adams of Pennsylvania and Charles David Adams of Ohio;
and a sister, Launa Reeder of Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Garlton, Dennis and Gale; and
a sister, Cosby Hollinger.
He retired from the B&R Railroad. He served in World War II as a medical
technician and had served on the Silver Hair Legislature.
Private services were held Tuesday with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Tomblyn

Jacob “Jaap” Lievisse Adriaanse, 74, a resident of 44 Pinewood Drive,
Elkins, passed away Tuesday evening at his residence.

Jacob L. Adriaanse
Jacob “Jaap” Lievisse Adriaanse, 74, a resident of 44 Pineview Drive,
passed away Tuesday evening, June 3, 2003, at his residence.
He was born April 1, 1929, at Tholen, Netherlands, a son of the late Jasper and
Janna Abigael Pypelink Lievisse Adriaanse.
On June 25, 1985, at Redmond, Wa., he was married to Beverly Lou Shomo Price,
who survives.
Also surviving is one son, Jaap Lievisse Adriaanse and wife, Patty de Koster, of
Gorinehom, Netherlands; two stepsons, Jeffrey Thomas Price of Newport News, Va.,
and Kevin Lynn Price of Beverly; one daughter, Karen Bults-Lievisse Adriaanse
and husband, Chris Bults, of Rotterdam, Netherlands; one stepdaughter, Melissa
Price Knowles of Portsmouth, Va.; four brothers, Koos Lievisse Adriaanse of
Wemeldinge, Netherlands, Wim and Antony Lievisse Adriaanse, both of Rotterdam,
Netherlands and Jasper Lievisse Adriaanse of Oosterhout, Netherlands; two
sisters, Sara Spiering-Lievisse Adriaanse of Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Maty de
Hamer-Lievisse Adriaanse of Rrddenkenk, Netherlands; two grandchildren; and five
stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Maatje Lievisse Adriaanse and Adri
Lievisse Adriaanse.
Jaap received a bachelor of science degree in marine engineering. He served as
chief engineer and vice president of technical operations for Holland America
Line prior to his retirement after 42 years of service. He was a beloved father
and Opa (grandfather).
He was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church.
Friends may call at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins on Saturday from 10 a.m.
until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Jeff Falter will officiate and

Edna R. Alkire
Edna Ruth Alkire, 77, a former resident of the Moore and Location
communities and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home,
departed this life early Wednesday morning, July 2, 2003, at the nursing home.
She had been in declining health.
She was born on Jan. 10, 1926, at Upshur County, a daughter of the late William
Alkire and Lula Robinson Alkire.
Surviving are three brothers, Junior Alkire of Canton, Ohio, Roy Alkire and
wife, Dona, Daris Alkire and wife, Kay, all of Parsons; one sister, Ruby Sherry
of Philadelphia, Pa.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Ray and Terry Alkire; one
sister, Donna Lambert; and two half sisters, Goldie Clevenger and Ethel Howell.
She attended the schools of Tucker County and was a homemaker.

Harry O. Allen
Harry Owen “Pete” Allen, 84, a resident of Route 2, the Point Pleasant Road
near Belington, departed this life at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at his
home following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 3, 1919, at Clemitts, the son of the late Howard and Ora A.
Findley Allen. On Nov. 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Mildred
Lucille Moore, who preceded him in death on March 22, 1997.
He is survived by three sons, Jerry Allen and Duane Allen, both of Belington,
and George Allen of Buckhannon. Also surviving are one sister, Mary Zohner of
Elkins; three brothers, Columbus Allen of Belington, Frederick Allen of
Belington, and Charles Allen of Buckhannon; six grandchildren, four
great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son;
one infant daughter; one brother, Elijah Allen, and one infant brother.
Mr. Allen attended the schools of Barbour County, was a veteran of the U.S. Army
serving in World War II, was a member of the Upper Barbour Sportsman Club and
served as a former president of the club. He was a member of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 410 in Belington.
In earlier years, before his retirement, he worked as a carpenter and
contractor.
He was a Protestant by faith. Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral
Home in Belington from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and on Wednesday until 11 a.m.,
the funeral hour when services will be conducted from the funeral home parlor.
The Rev. F. L. ”Wink” McQuain will officiate and interment will follow in
the Valley Bend Cemetery near Belington where the American Legion Post No. 44 of
Philippi will conduct military honors. The family asks that in lieu of flowers
memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Hospice, Crim Avenue, Belington,

Lucy P. Allen, 74, of East Lincoln Street, Buckhannon, died Thursday, Nov. 27,
2003, at her home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
She was born Nov. 23, 1929, at Napier, the daughter of the late Lewis and Sylvia
Cutright Allen.
She is survived by one daughter, Elma L. Robinson of Lightburn; three sons,
Jessie Gregory of Route 2, French Creek, Lenny Gregory of Colorado Springs,
Colo., and Timothy Gregory of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; five
stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, George Allen of
Ohio, Dana Allen of Buckhannon and Jim Allen of French Creek; one sister, Evelyn
Stairs of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Mac Allen; and one sister, Elsie
Posey.

John W. Allman
John William Allman, 57, of Eglon, passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at his
residence.
He was born Jan. 20, 1946, in Canaan Valley, the son of the late Cline Allman
and Ruth Simmons Allman.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Mullenax Allman; one son, William James
“Billy” Allman, at home; one daughter, Sue Ann, and Chris Yost, Eglon; one
brother, Cline “Buck” Allman Jr. and wife, Martha, Canaan Valley; three
sisters, Betty Kisamore and husband, Neil, Reedsville, Maggie Eye and husband,
Ivan, Painesville, Ohio, and Wanda Burns, Sterling, Va.; one grandson,
Christopher Yost Jr.; one granddaughter, Desiree Yost; and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Hilbert “Hib” Allman.
Mr. Allman was a farmer and a member of the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren.
Friends will be received at the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren in Eglon
from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be
held at the church at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Glen Nissly officiating.

at her residence.

Lowell E. Alt
Lowell Everett Alt, 89, of Petersburg, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Potomac
Valley Hospital in Keyser.
He was born Jan. 6, 1914, near Pansy, a son of the late William Clark Alt and
Elizabeth Sarah Hiser Alt.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Smith Alt on Nov. 5, 1989. He
was also preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Alt on
June 5, 2002; and two brothers and six sisters.
He was the owner and founder of Alts Furniture in Petersburg in July 1950. He
served several terms on the Petersburg City Council before being elected Sheriff
of Grant County, serving from 1968-1972. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving
during World War II.
Surviving are four sons, Lowell E. Alt Jr. of Salt Lake City, Utah, Michael M.
Alt of Naples, Fla.; Smitty Alt of Petersburg, and Wilson M. Alt of Charlotte,
N.C.; one brother, Richard Alt of Toledo, Ohio; two grandchildren, Sally Alt of
Austin, Texas, and Greg Alt of Seattle, Wash.
Funeral services will be at Schaeffer Funeral Home Saturday at 11 a.m. with the
Rev. Gregory A. Rotruck officiating. There will be no visitations. Interment
will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. Military graveside services
will be provided by Combined Veteran Organizations of Grant County and the JROTC.

Morris L. Alt
Morris Lee Alt, 58, of Harrisonburg, Va., and formerly of Petersburg, died
Saturday, October 11, 2003 at his residence.
Born Jan. 10, 1945, in Petersburg, he was the son of Elsie Lee Alt Hedrick, a
resident of the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.
Morris graduated from Petersburg High School in 1965. He was U.S. Marine Corps
veteran of Vietnam and a member of the Petersburg Lodge No. 145 AF&AM.
Morris and his business associate, Jimmie Breeden, were self-employed building
contractors.
He was a member of Petersburg Memorial Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Sharon Ciotti Alt; one son, Kenny Harrison
Alt II of Harrisonburg, Va.; one sister, Bonnie Hedrick of Petersburg; one
brother, Larry K. Hedrick of Petersburg; aunts and uncles, Bessie and Herman
Kimble of Buckhannon and Arthur and Martha Alt of Petersburg; and several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. today at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in
Petersburg. The family received friends one hour prior to services. The Rev
Stanley Kile officiated and burial will be private.

Linda Sue Ammerman, 48, a resident of 103 Central St., Elkins, passed away
Thursday afternoon, March 13, 2003, at her home.
She was born Sept. 25, 1954, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Roy Lee and Roeta
Virginia Collier McCauley.
Surviving are two sons, Edward John Ammerman of Brownsville, N.J., and Keith
Eric Ammerman of Elkins. Also surviving are five brothers, Kenneth Wayne
McCauley of Sayreville, N.J., Richard Franklin McCauley and Leonard Ray
McCauley, both of Elkins, Leroy Steven McCauley of Old Bridge, N.J., and Stanley
Junior McCauley of San Jose, Calif.; and six sisters, Brenda Jean Collier of
Elkins, Barbara Jean Crosier of Shenandoah, Va., Carol Ann Papi of Edison, N.J.,
Norma Jane Piaggio of Spotswood, N.J., Helen Fay McCauley of Sayreville, N.J.,

Linda was employed as a deli clerk for Krogers and was a member of the United
Food and Commercial Workers Local No. 400. She enjoyed playing bingo.

Charles E. Anderson, 71, a resident of Route 1, Belington, died of injuries
sustained in an automobile accident Monday morning, April 21, 2003.
He was born Oct. 10, 1931, in Barbour County, a son of the late C.W. and Verdie
(Dadisman) Anderson.
He was united in marriage in May 1953 to the former Dovie M. Everson.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and husband, Jerry
Phillips, Belington, and Donna and husband, Nick Carpenter, Volga; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Michael and wife, Debbie Anderson and Charles B. and wife,
Judy Anderson, all of Belington; one adopted son, Bobby King, Belington; seven
sisters, Louise Murphy, Geneva Anderson, Louetta Murphy, Katie Anderson, Linda
Anderson, and Janice Murphy, all of Philippi, and Barbara Johnson of Belington;
two brothers and sisters-in-law, Havard “Bud” and wife, Doris Anderson,
Aurora, Ohio, and Dwight and wife, Juanita Anderson, Reedsville; nine
grandchildren, Joey Carpenter, Roxanna Wilson, Chad Anderson, Brittanni
Anderson, Josh Harris, Wesley Anderson, Drew Anderson, Kacy King and B.J. King;
and one great-grandchild, Dillon Carpenter.
He and his wife, Dovie, were foster parents for 46 foster children. He was a
former employee at the Scale Office of Elkins Limestone and retired from the
Elkins Mountain School. He was a coach for 15 years of the Belington Little
League. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, where he served
as Sunday school superintendent and song leader.
Mr. Anderson’s request for cremation will be honored. The family will receive
friends at Wright Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Thursday. A memorial service will be
at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. James Steele officiating. At

Dovie M. Anderson, 68, a resident of Route 1, Belington, died of injuries

Kristin S. Anderson
Kristin Sue Simmons Anderson, 34, of Hacker Valley, died Wednesday, July 9,
2003, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was the daughter of Ronald Keith Simmons and the late Karen Sue Sponagule
Simmons. She was born April 6, 1969, in Elkins.
She graduated from WVU with a BA degree and obtained her nursing degree from
Fairmont State College. She was a registered nurse at Webster County Memorial
Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon and Stonewall Jackson Hospital
in Weston.
She was a loving wife and mother, who took pride in all of her families
accomplishments.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harry
and Mary Bonner Simmons and George and Elma Raines Sponagule.
Surviving are her husband, Jhan Anderson of Hacker Valley; sons, Shane Cameron
and Shawn Tyler Anderson of Hacker Valley; father, Keith and stepmother, Joyce
Simmons of Morgantown; brothers, Greg Simmons of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jeff (Allison)
Simmons of Raleigh, N.C., and Jay (Heather) Simmons of Grafton; nieces, Madison
and Ellie; nephew, Hunter; and puppy "Anna."

Nora Anderson, 101, of 200 Days Drive, Sutton, and formerly of Hacker
Valley, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Braxton Health Care Center in Sutton,
following an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 1, 1902, at Replete, a daughter of the late George and Alice
Barbe Jordan.
She was married to Willie Anderson who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Billy Anderson of Lawton, Okla., and Forest Anderson of
French Creek; one daughter, Gloria Lanton of New Brighton, Pa.; six
grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Perry Anderson; and two infant sons.
She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Oral Eugene “Gene” Anderson, 87, passed away at Trinity East in
Steubenville, Ohio, on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, from complications from
pneumonia.
He was born Jan. 24, 1916, in Cleveland, W.Va., the son of the late Robert Lewis
and Goldie Dove Powers Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lena Pearl Anderson, and his second
wife, Goldie; two brothers, Robert Dale Anderson and Donald Mason Anderson; and
three sisters, Willie Thelma Dever, Wilma Virginia Groves and Irma Bernice
Harper.
Surviving are one son, David Eugene Anderson and wife, Emma, of Bloomingdale,
Ohio; one daughter, Donna Lee Roby and husband, Jimmie, of Wakeman, Ohio; six

Gene Anderson was a devoted husband and father. Except for a short hiatus to
work in the shipyards during World War II, he labored to raise his family on a

County at the age of 67. He was a familiar figure to seasonal campers at the
park and campers from many places around the East became acquainted with him and
sought him out when they returned yearly.
He lived with his son in Bloomingdale for the last several years of his life.

She was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Webster County, the daughter of the late Alex

She was united in marriage on Sept. 14, 1941, to Ferry S. Anderson who preceded
her in death on May 18, 2001.
She is survived by three daughters, Rita Huffman of Buckhannon, Donna Dae
Burnside of Rock Cave and Mary Kay Russell of Buckhannon; two sons, Larry S.
Anderson of Buckhannon and Harry Keith Anderson of Rock Cave; three brothers,
Don Cutlip of Little Rock, Ark., Harry Cutlip of Shiloh, Ohio, and Cal Cutlip of
Ohio; one sister, Jetta Alderman of Cleveland, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 28
great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
She attended Canaan Community Church.

Carol Susan Ankney, 52, of 97 S. Kanawha St., Buckhannon, died Monday, March
17, 2003, at her residence in Buckhannon.
She was born Jan. 6, 1951 in Greensburg, Pa., a daughter of Ray F. Ankney, who
survives in Mt. Pleasant, Pa., and the late Mary Catherine Hutter Ankney.
In addition to her father, she is survived by a brother, Thomas Ray Ankney and
wife, Barbra, Mt. Pleasant, Pa.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Ankney.
She was a school teacher for Upshur County Board of Education. She was a
Presbyterian by faith.
Her body will be cremated and services will be held in Mt. Pleasant, Pa.

Mary Elizabeth Bolden Anthony, 90, a resident of 27 Key St., Elkins, departed
this life late Monday evening, March 31, 2003, at her home following a brief
illness.
She was born Wednesday, July 3, 1912, at Sawyerville, Ala., a daughter of the
late Alfred F. Bolden and Ellen Mosley Bolden.
On Sept. 2, 1939, Monterey, Va., she was married to Eugene C. Anthony, who
preceded her in death August 3, 1985.
Surviving are three sisters, Sarah Darcus, Barrackville, Gladys Thompson,
Yadkinville, N.C., and Katherine Blake, Springfield, Mass.; and several nieces
and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were one brother, Edward A. Bolden;
and three sisters, Rosale Blake, Florence Robinson and Billie F. Scott.
She attended the schools of Mannington and Fairmont, was a graduate of Dunbar
High School at Fairmont with the class of 1930, and was a well-known nanny and
housekeeper for many families in the Elkins area. She was a member of the H.W.
Daniels Post 29 American Legion Auxiliary, Benson Chapter No. 17, Order of the
Eastern Star, Lady Shriners, Order of the Golden Circle, Virginia Chapel AME
Church where she was a member of the board of trustees and was a past president
of the Missionary Society. She was a well-known cook being especially noted for
her delicious pies.

Patsy J. "Pat" Antolini, 82, a resident of the Buckhannon Pike, Norton, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 2, 2003, in the Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born March 23, 1920, at Norton, a son of the late Nunzio "James" and Antonetta DiBacco
Antolini.
On July 16, 1940, he was married to Betty L. Corley Antolini, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Robert Joseph Antolini and wife, Martha, of Morgantown; one daughter, Mrs. George R. "Tyke" (Anna Marie) Kyle of Elkins; one brother, Louis Antolini of
Arthurdale; one sister, Cora Travise of Coalton; a special niece, Mrs. Charles (Frances) Girard of Elkins; six grandchildren, James Vincent Antolini and wife, Stella, of Sacramento, Calif., George Patrick Antolini and wife, Susanne, of Martinsburg, Christina Elizabeth Antolini of Clarksburg, Frederick Vincent Antolini and wife, Katherine, of Buckhannon, Dr. Ryan Antolini and Kristin Dawn Antolini of Morgantown; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Antolini was a retired Union construction worker and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army with the 315th Field Artillery Battalion.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Coalton, Laborers Local No. 984 of Clarksburg and the Randolph County Senior Center.

She was born Oct. 13, 1949, in Elkins, the daughter of Analee Rohr Pritt of
Dailey and the late Warden J. Pritt.
On June 30, 1979, she was married to Denver Arbogast, who survives at Chenoweth
Creek.
Also surviving are one son, Robert Dale Arbogast, serving with the U.S. Navy in
LeMoore, Calif.; two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth and Rebecca Ellen Arbogast, both
at home; one sister, Sharon Herbach Cox of Canonsburg, Pa.; and several nieces
and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Adam Justin, and one daughter, Annie.
Justine was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1967 and
graduated from the Clarksburg Beauty Academy.

Charles Arbogast, 87, a resident of Severen, Md., passed away at his
residence. He had been in failing health, however, death was sudden and
unexpected.
He was the eldest son of the late Benjamin and Amanda Sacks Arbogast and the

Charles Lemuel Arbogast Sr., 87, of Severn, Md., passed away Sunday, Jan. 19,
2003, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 14, 1915, in Bowden, a son of the late Benjamin Harley and
Amanda Elizabeth Sachs Arbogast.
On June 8, 1938, he was united in marriage to the former Susie Elizabeth
Williams, who survives in Severn, Md.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Parsons of
Severn, Md., Penny Upton of Pasadena, Md., and Brenda Bloomquist of Linthicum,
Md.; one son, Charles Arbogast Jr. of Glenburnie, Md.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Paula and Ardon Parsons, Charles Arbogast
III, Sandra Klhor, Tammy Wagner, Leroy and Christie Downin, Kevin and Mark
Bloomquist; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Mary Helen Roy and Vergie Ferguson; two
brothers, John and Denzil Arbogast; and two grandchildren, Michael Arbogast and
infant, Tracy Parsons.
He worked for Allied Chemical Corp. as an electrician for 22 years retiring in
February 1974. His hobbies were working in his garage on cars and working in his
garden.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing his guitar and spending time with his wife
and grandchildren. He was also a member of the Ernest Angley Grace Cathedral in
Akron, Ohio.
Friends were received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home on Jan. 27. Funeral services
were conducted from the Runner chapel Jan. 28. The Rev. A.H. Belt, pastor of the

Dempsey W. Arbogast, 81, a resident of the Gateway Apartments, passed away
Tuesday evening, April 1, 2003, in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Hospital in
Clarksburg.
He was born March 29, 1922, at Circleville, a son of the late Samuel William and
Mona Bennett Arbogast.
He was formerly married to Daisy Helmick, who survives in Elkins.
He is also survived by five sons, Willard Arbogast of Elkins, Kenneth Arbogast
of Clarksville, Md., Ronald Arbogast of Montrose, Glen Arbogast of Davis, and
Kevin Arbogast of St. George; three daughters, Mrs. Woodrow (Wanda) Smith of
Valley Head, Mrs. Robert (Wilda Connie) Pratt of Elkins, Mrs. Lonnie (Norma)
Daniels of Huttonsville; one stepson, Fred Bennett of Kerens. Also surviving is
one brother, June Arbogast of Winchester, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Emmaline Cave
of Virginia, Mrs. Earl (Ruby) Bonnell of Glady, and Mrs. Ada Nelson of Elkins;
24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, Jesse, Keith and Weldon Arbogast, and one sister, Bonnie
McClure, preceded him in death.
Mr. Arbogast was a graduate of Circleville High School. He served as a medic
assistant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Okinawa,
Philippines and Japan. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a
retired machine operator with Elkins Industries. He was a member of the H.W.
Daniels Post No. 29 American Legion, Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign
Wars, Elkins Moose Club and Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Elkins.

Conflict. He lived in Galax, Va. for a number of years prior to moving to
Beaufort County in 1981. He had worked as a supervisor at Singer Furniture Co.
in Chocowinity, and for the past five years had worked with his son in
automotive paint and bodywork. He was a member of Chocowinity United Methodist
Church.

Cynthia B. Arbogast of the home; two grandchildren, Nicole Lahocki and Dillon

She was born July 3, 1914, in Virginia, a daughter of the late Trip Hinkle and
Florence Warner Hinkle.
She is survived by her long-time companion, Warren Kisamore of Parsons; three
nieces, Rosalee Hinkle, Ruthalene Hinkle and Wilma Lee Strawderman; four
nephews, Jason Hinkle, Carole Hinkle, Dalie Hinkle and Burley Hinkle, all of
Virginia; and several great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a
great-nephew, whom Mrs. Arbogast raised, William R. “Buddy” Kuykendall of
Hendricks.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in
death by her husband, John Arbogast.
She was a homemaker and a Presbyterian by faith and a noted cook. She had worked
for the Marvel Processing Co. of Dayton, Va., and the former Parsons Nursery.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandmothers, Bertha Davis of
Ravenna and Radie Nelson of Franklin; one uncle, James Eary of Rootstown, Ohio;
and one aunt, Anna Mae Doyle of Staunton, Va.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Elmer and Flossie Davis;
and grandfathers Clyde Nelson and John Rexrode.

Melvin Junior Arbogast, 80, a lifelong resident of Valley Head, passed away
Monday, July 7, 2003, at 3:56 p.m. in Ruby Memorial Hospital, where he had been
a patient since Saturday.
He was born Jan. 14, 1923, at Valley Head, a son of the late Calvin and Myrtle
Louk Arbogast.
On Dec. 15, 1941, he was united in marriage to the former Virginia Belle
Bodkins, who preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Sue) McCrobie of Dailey, and Twila
Wamsley of Valley Head; one son and daughter-in-law, Phillip Arbogast and wife,
Rose, of Core; one son-in-law, Terry Wamsley of Mingo; one brother, Donald
Arbogast of Valley Head; three half brothers, Joe Arbogast of Elkwater, John
Arbogast of Valley Head, and Jimmy Arbogast of Alabama; 10 grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were two infant twin sons,
Mitchell and Michael Arbogast; and one granddaughter, Nadine McCrobie.
He was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School. He was employed as a union coal
miner for Island Creek Coal Mines retiring in 1974.
He was a lover of dogs, having purchased several show dogs after they were
retired. He also raised dogs including walkers and curs.
He was an avid hunter and loved to garden. He was a Protestant by faith.

Richard William Arbogast, 67, of Green Bank, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003,

Mr. Currence was born May 5, 1936, in Mill Creek, the son of the late Rubert and
Alice Currence Arbogast.
He was employed by Howes Leather Co. for 27 years and retired from Inter-State
Hardwoods.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Wilma Lee Arbogast.

Gregory Arbogast and wife, Kim, of Mill Creek; five grandchildren, Nikki and

brother, Jacob Arbogast and wife, Linda, of Cherry Grove.
He also leaves behind a special brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry
Williams of Kerens; numerous nieces and nephews and a lot of friends.
He was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Wallace and Wallace
Funeral Home in Arbovale where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday. The
Rev. Jim Waldren will officiate and interment will follow in the Mill Creek
Cemetery. The Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale is in charge of the

William S. Arbogast
William Stephen "Steve" Arbogast, 45, a former resident of Mill
Creek, and a resident of Montrose for the past several years, passed away at
6:04 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at his residence. He had been in his usual
health and death was sudden and unexpected.
He was born July 31, 1958, a son of William "Bill" and Janet Skinner
Arbogast, who survive in Mill Creek.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a close companion for several
years, Maryann Burch of Montrose; and her two children, B.J. Burch and Shasta
Burch, both at home; three sisters, Rebecca Gibson and husband, Kim, of
Somerset, Pa., Brenda Betler and husband, Stan, of Kingwood, and Kimberly Hammer
of Elkins.
Also surviving are six nieces and nephews, Sean and Connor Gibson, Stephanie and
Ashley Betler, and Nashua and Brooke Hammer.
He was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1976. He was
also a graduate of Northwood School of Taxidermy in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Arbogast was employed for 13 years as a coal miner. He owned and operated
A1-Wildlife Creations in Mill Creek.
He was a member of the band Route 69. He had the ability to play any instrument
and also to play by ear. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was recognized
by many people when he won third place in the professional division for his mule
deer which he displayed at the Elkins YMCA during the Mountaineer Big Buck Show
& Deer Classic and Taxidermy.
He was a member of the St. Brendan Catholic Church. Many people were touched by
Steve’s music and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Wednesday after 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. The
Rev. Father William Anderson and the Rev. Verl Simmons will officiate. Interment
will follow in Jerusalem Cemetery on the Adolph Road. The F.E. Runner Funeral

Corey J. Armentrout
Corey James Elwood Armentrout, of 17 Calvary Road, Buckhannon, a newborn son
of Rick and Ruth Ann Freeman Armentrout, died Monday, April 14, 2003, in Davis
Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 14, 2003, in Elkins.
Surviving are one brother, Christopher Ryan Armentrout, Buckhannon; maternal
grandparents, Maggie and Dennis Freeman, Buckhannon; paternal grandmother, Amy
Lou Armentrout, Whitmer; paternal grandfather, Wilbur “Bill” Armentrout,
Whitmer; paternal great-grandmother, Dorthea Armentrout, Job; maternal
great-grandmother, Betty Gifford, Buckhannon; and several aunts and uncles.
Friends will be received at the Way of Holiness Church Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9
p.m. Funeral services will be at the church Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jerry
Murrell officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in
Tallmansville.

Catherine Armstrong
Catherine Shaffer Armstrong, 83, a resident of Parsons, and more recently a
resident of the Colonial Place in Elkins, departed this life, Tuesday morning,
July 22, 2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to complications
of Alzheimer’s disease.

Catherine Armstrong
Catherine I. Shaffer Armstrong, 83, a resident of Parsons and more recently a
resident of Colonial Place in Elkins, peacefully passed from this life to the
next Tuesday morning, July 22, 2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in
declining health and death was attributed to complications of Alzheimer’s
disease.
She was born Dec. 23, 1919, at Bayard, a daughter of the late Claude G. Shaffer
and Wavie Arnold Shaffer.
On Dec. 24, 1940, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Richard H. “Dick”
Armstrong, who preceded her in death on March 18, 1988.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Evick and husband, William, and Susan Carr
and Lee DeMoss, all of Parsons; five grandchildren, Richard K. “Rick” Sturms,
Debra Fike and husband, Gene, Lori Mullenax and husband, Randy, and David Evick,
all of Parsons, and Dr. Marciea Evick of Elkins; five great-grandchildren, Tyler
and Justin Fike, and Evan, Josie and Cameron Mullenax; one brother-in-law,
Burton “Sonny” Armstrong and wife, Judy of Valley Head; and several nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Brenda Sturms and husband,
Ronald; one brother, Thomas Shaffer; and three sisters, Rita Williams, Atha
Bohon and Glenna Gribble. She was the last surviving member of her immediate
family.
She attended the schools of Tucker County and was a graduate of Parsons High
School class of 1937. In 1963, she and her late husband founded the R.H.
Armstrong Contracting and Paving Corp., where she served as secretary and
stockholder for many years. She was very instrumental in its growth and success.
The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home today from
6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor
Friday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Neil Parsons will officiate and interment will follow
at Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in

Mary V. Arnett
Mary Virginia "Jenny" Arnett, 79, of Mt. Clare, and formerly of Summit Park, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, in United Hospital Center.
She was born in Mabie on Sept. 6, 1923, a daughter of the late Paul Wamsley and the late Daisy Markley Wamsley.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carl Arnett; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Warren Nicholson, Durbin, and Donna and Ronald Cabo, Mt. Clare; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Kiane Arnett, Summit Park, and John and Sharon Arnett, Westfield, N.C.; two sisters, Polly Burks, Buckeye, and Lorraine Burks, Hillsboro; three brothers, Frank Wamsley, Mill Creek, Bayard Wamsley, Helvetia, and John Wamsley, Summit Park; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Carrie Arbogast, Marie Moss and Josephine Wamsley.
Mrs. Arnett was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith.
Friends will be received at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Rick Owens presiding. Interment will be in Lost Creek Seventh Day Baptist Church Cemetery (Brick Church). Bessie Arthur
Bessie Arthur, 76, of Route 2, Belington, departed this life at 10:45 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg. She had been in
failing health for many years and death was attributed to cancer.
She was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Webster, a daughter of the late William and Lena
Fawcett McAfee.
She was married to Gene W. Arthur, who preceded her in death in 1980.
Also preceding her in death were two sons, Stephen Bruce and David Allen; one
daughter, Bonita Sharon “Suise” Nash.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Christina Marie Nash of Morgantown, and
James Nash of Maryland; one sister, Helen Baisi of Weaver; and several nieces
and nephews.
She worked in the upholstery business with her husband for many years in the
Grafton area. She was a Protestant by faith.
She attended the schools of Taylor County.
At the request of the deceased, her body will be cremated. A memorial service
will be held at a later date with the Rev. F.L. McQuain conducting the service
at Belington Nazarene Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any
contribution be made to the Belington Nazarene Church. From 22 Feb 2003.

Alice Katherine Ault, 70, of Nella’s in Elkins, and formerly of Petersburg,
died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital.
Friends will be received at Schaeffer Funeral Home today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel
Saturday at 11 a.m. with Bishop R. Dale Sharp officiating. Interment will follow
