Jackson C. Tabscott
Jackson C. Tabscott, Cdr. USNR retired, of Washington Crossing, Pa., died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at his home.
Born in Elkins, he had been a resident of Washington Crossing for the past 36 years. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University class of 1942 with a degree in textiles.
While at North Carolina State, Jack played basketball and was captain of the team.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was awarded the Bronze Star.
Jack’s professional career spanned over 35 years as a sales representative for the Dupont Company and he retired in 1982.
He was a member of the Thompson Memorial Church of New Hope, Pa., the Trenton Elks Club and the American Legion, the Tin Can Sailors and the USS Mahan Association.
In his spare time Jack enjoyed basketball, golf and tennis, but most of all he loved to be with his family and friends.
The son of the late Col. Ernest E. and Floy Shaffer Tabscott, he is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Betty H. Hoffman Tabscott; his dear children Jackson C. Tabscott II of Greenleaf, Ore., Andrea L. Gula and her husband, John, of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Maryellen T. O’Connor and her husband, Bernard, of Washington Crossing, Pa.; one sister, Barbara T. Rice, of Elkins; seven dear grandchildren, J. Brian and Brent Gula, Jackson C. Tabscott III and K. Grant and J.L. Tabscott, Matthew B. and Kevin J. O’Connor; and five great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday from 1 p.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Thompson Memorial Church, 1680 Aquetong Road, New Hope, Pa, 18938. Interment will be in the Thompson Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Thompson Memorial Church at the above address or a charity of the donor’s choice. Hazel M. Tackett, 91, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2002, at her residence, following an extended illness.

Hazel M. Tackett
Hazel M. Tackett, 91, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2002, at her residence, following an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 7, 1910, at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Anthony and Clarindia Auxier Currence.
She was married to Charles James Tackett, who preceded her in death in 1964.
She is survived by one son, Lonnie Tackett, Mill Creek; seven daughters, Helena Mary Shiflett, Akron, Ohio, Ruth Marie Howard, Fairmont, Kathleen Isabelle Pingley, Baltimore, Md., Lina Mae Taylor, Beverly, Tina Louise Croston and Irene T. Phillips, both of Valley Bend; and Bonnie Lynn Rhodes of Louisville, Miss.; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two sons, two brothers, six sisters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Tackett was a direct descendent of William Currence, founder of the town of Mill Creek. She worked as custodian at Citizens National Bank for many years prior to her retirement. She was the last surviving charter member of the Memorial Mission Church at Mill Creek and a member of Mill Creek Senior Center.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Thursday, she will be moved to Memorial Mission Church at Mill Creek for visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Ruth E. Tacy
Ruth E. Thompson Tacy, 83, a resident of 20 High St., Elkins, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 14, 1918, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Grover C. and Mota Coberly Thompson.
She was married to Cleo Tacy, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, Grover A. "Bill" Tacy and fiance, Kathy, of Crofton, Md.; two daughters, Barbara Martin Watts and husband, John, of Elkins, and Maria "Cookie" Dale and husband, Donald, of Fayetteville, Pa.; two brothers, Bert D. Thompson and Frank Thompson, both of Beverly; one son-in-law, Neil Arnold, Fredricksburg, Va.; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Tacy Arnold; and one grandson Kristopher Taylor.
Mrs. Tacy owned and operated Whiteway Produce for 30 years until her retirement in 1976. She was an active member of the Democratic Committee of Randolph County for many years and a member of the Randolph County Senior Center. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church near Beverly.

Lorraine A. Tait
Lorraine A. Thompson Tait, a native of Glady and a resident of Canton, Ohio, for many years, departed this life on Oct. 15, 2002.
She was born during 1922 at Glady, the daughter of the late Emery Thomson Sr. and Georgia Arbogast Thompson.
She was married to Alfred C. Tait, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one stepson, Charles Tait, Texas; two brothers, Keith and Myron Thompson, both of Elkins; one sister, JoAnn Stiles, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Morris, Hugh, Rupert, McClure, Edmund "Eddie" and Emery "June" Thompson; and one sister, Frankie Thompson.
Lorraine attended the schools of Randolph County and was a homemaker.

Jean Elizabeth Kittle Talbott, 86, a resident of 222 Elm St., Elkins, departed this life early Tuesday evening, Dec. 10, 2002, at the Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in her usual health until suffering a fall at her home on Monday.

Jean E. Talbott
Jean Elizabeth Kittle Talbott, 86, a resident of 222 Elm St., Elkins, departed this life early Tuesday evening, Dec. 10, 2002, at Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in her usual health until suffering a fall at her home on Monday and death was unexpected.
She was born Sunday, May 14, 1916, at Belington, a daughter of the late Charles C. Kittle and Lillian Digman Kittle.
She was married to I.D. "Duke" Talbott of Elkins, who survives. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Also surviving are three sons, John C. Talbott, Elkins, I.D. "Duke" Talbott, Jr., Weston, and Mark L. Talbott, Kerens; one daughter, Ellen Elizabeth McCabe of Alpharetta, Ga.
She was preceded in death by one son, Robert C. "Rob" Talbott; and two sisters, Thelma Salisbury of Santa Fe, N.M., and Emma Lou Kincaid of Huntington.
In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Amanda Lake, Ruckersville, Va., Michael Talbott, Elkins, Brian Talbott, Morgantown, Jason Talbott, Tarentum, Pa., Leah Talbott, Santa Cruz Calif., Cristin Gallagher, Ithaca, N.Y., and Sean McCabe, Alpharetta, Ga.; and three great-grandchildren, Christian Lake, Emily Lake and Olivia Lake, all of Ruckersville Va.
Mrs. Talbott was active in numerous church, civic, and community activities. She served for nine years as a member of the West Virginia Commission on Aging, was a former president of the Democratic Woman’s Club, was a former president of the Randolph County Domestic Training and Referral Program, the Randolph County Garden Club, the Randolph County CEOs, and the Randolph County Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors.
She was vice president, chairman of readers, and coordinator of Region 3 for the West Virginia Heritage Quilt Search which, with Ohio University Press, published the book, "West Virginia Quilts and Quiltmakers: Echoes from the Hills," edited by Fawn Valentine.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Elkins and served as Sunday school teacher, chair of the Board of Christian Education, deacon, trustee, and president of the American Baptist Women. She was also involved for many years with the West Virginia Baptist Women serving in a variety of leadership roles.
She was a member of the Randolph County Creative Arts Council, Log Cabin Quilters’ Guild, National Quilters Association, American Quilt Society, Woman’s Club of Elkins, National Association of Parliamentarians, West Virginia Association of Parliamentarians, and was a former President of the Rose G. Martin Unit of NAP.
For seven years Mrs. Talbott served as executive secretary of the Mountain State Forest Festival Association. She attended Davis & Elkins College and Marshall University.
Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. On Saturday morning, Mrs. Talbott will be moved to the First Baptist Church, where final rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Virginia B. Talbott
Virginia Bell "Ginnie" Talbott, 74, of 226 Camden Ave., Buckhannon, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at the home of her son, Judd, in Reedsville.
Mrs. Talbott was born July 18, 1927, in Randolph County, a daughter of the late William J. Kelley and Flora Rowan Kelley.
On Nov. 25, 1944, she married Oran Leo "Tobe" Talbott, who preceded her in death on May 8, 1992.
Surviving are four daughters, Josie and husband, Rex Tenney, Buckhannon, Linda and husband, George Lemons, Randolph County, Judith Brown-Strader and husband, Larry, Kanawha Head, and Loretta Jean and husband, Dewey Stump, Weston; three sons, Leo Talbott and Dana and wife, Pamela Talbott, all of Buckhannon, and Judd Talbott, Reedsville; one sister, Helen Lee, Buckhannon; one brother, Rex Kelley, Buckhannon; two special friends, Ruth Wilfong, Buckhannon, and J.R. Stemple, Reedsville; one half sister, Pearl Williams, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Verlon Kelley, Ernest Kelley and Donnie Kelley; one sister, Estalene Tenney; two grandsons, Justin Suder and Zackery Hanna; one son-in-law, Delmas Steve Brown; and one half sister, Freda Tenney.
Mrs. Talbott was a homemaker. She was a member of Flora Rebekah Lodge No. 183 of Buckhannon and was a Methodist by faith.

David P. Tallman Sr.
Davis P. Tallman Sr., 48, a resident of Route 2, Box 273-A, Buckhannon, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.
He was born Nov. 21, 1953, in Buckhannon, the son of Bobby Joe and Dana Tenney Tallman, who survive in Buckhannon.
On Dec. 13, 1975, he was married to Patricia Keister Tallman who survives in Buckhannon.
Surviving are one daughter, Katie Tallman, Buckhannon; one son, David Tallman Jr., Buckhannon; one sister, Donna Tallman, Buckhannon; and one brother, Joe L. Tallman, Buckhannon.
Mr. Tallman was the maintenance lead for Trus Joist Weyerhauser. He was a member of the Washington District Fire Company and was a Methodist by faith.

Inez C. Tallman
Inez C. Mullenax Tallman, 82, of Durbin, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
Mrs. Tallman was born April 4, 1919, at Pocahontas County, and was reared at Pine Grove, a daughter of the late Soloman K. and Daisy M. Mick Mullenax.
She married Harlan "Pistol Pete" Tallman, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Bonnie L. Plyler of Bartow; two sons, Roger Tallman of Asheville, N.C., and Edward Tallman of Durbin; two brothers, Edward Mullenax of Arbovale, and Stanley Mullenax of Pocatello, Idaho; four grandchildren, Mark Tracy, Anita Tracy, Melanie Tallman Vaughn and Julie Tallman; and two great-grandchildren, Ashleigh and Lauren Vaughn.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma White Nelson and Crystal Bell; and four brothers, Gerald, Raymond, Craig and Basil Mullenax.
She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a homemaker that worked outside the home.
She and her husband, Pete, were recently featured as "Hometown Heroes" in a special supplement to the March 14 edition of The Inter-Mountain. Mrs. Tallman and her husband, who preceded her in death just slightly more than one year ago, were among a select few of "Hometown Heroes" from a seven county area.
Friends will be received at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at Bethel United Methodist Church Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Norman D. Tallman
Norman D. Tallman, 84, a resident of 212 Curtis Lane in Belington, departed this life at 9:13 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 19, 1918, in Belington, a son of the late Ray and Rose Tallman.
He is survived by two brothers, Robert Earl Tallman, Belington, and Kenneth Tallman, Lewisburg; and one sister, Norma Grapes, Sunbury, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Willard Tallman; and one infant brother.
Mr. Tallman was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Armed Forces Western Pacific 8th Army during World War II. His many citations and decorations included the American Defense Service Ribbon, the American Theater Service Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon with a bronze star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a bronze star and Good Conduct Medal with Clasp.
Mr. Tallman attended the schools of Barbour County, West Virginia Wesleyan, Ohio University, Morehead State University, Kansas Wesleyan University and West Virginia University Graduate School. He was a retired school teacher and principal of the Wood County School System in Parkersburg.
He was a member of the American Bible Society, the AOPA, life member of VFW Post 573 in Clarksburg and Retired Teachers of Wood County. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and also attended the Weaver Church of the Nazarene.

Ernest J. Tarantelli
Ernest Joseph Tarantelli, 70, a resident of Scott Depot, departed this life on Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Putnam General Hospital at Hurricane.
He was born on Sept. 2, 1931, at Harding, a son of the late Joseph Tarantelli and Frances Mastrogiuseppe Tarantelli.
He was married to the former Karen Fox, who survives at Scott Depot.
Also surviving are one son, Joseph Anthony Tarantelli, Scott Depot; three sisters, Dora Carlucci, McLean, Va., Cecelia Ancell and Angela Miller, both of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Anthony "Tony" Tarantelli; and two sisters, Jean Antolini and Valeria Tarantelli.
Mr. Tarantelli was a graduate of Elkins High School. He received a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Davis & Elkins College and attended West Virginia University, working toward a master’s degree. He was a member of Delta Chapter of Zeta Sigma and the Gamma Delta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi. He served as a captain with U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict and was the commanding officer of the South Charleston Reserve Detachment during the 1960s.
He was the owner and operator of EJT Equipment Inc. and had worked within the heavy equipment industry with other companies for several years. He was formerly employed in operations management of the West Virginia Department of Highways, and was a former representative of the MetLife and Prudential Insurance Companies. He was a charter member of the Catholic Church of the Ascension at Hurricane.
Friends will be received at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. At 8:30 p.m. today, in the funeral home chapel, a prayer service will be held. On Saturday, Mr. Tarantelli will be moved to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at Saint Albans, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Patrick M. McDonough as the presider. Mr. Tarantelli will then be moved to Lohr & Barb Funeral Home where friends will be received on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at Saint Brendan Catholic Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Father William Anderson officiating. Interment will follow.

Lena S. Taul
Lena S. Taul, 88, a resident of Route 1, Elkins, the Chenoweth Creek community, where she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Sam Nelson, passed away at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2002, at her home.
She was born Aug. 24, 1913, in Nicholas County, Ky., a daughter of the late Bruce and Rebecca Morris Hamm.
On Dec. 28, 1929, in Winchester, Ky., she was married to Arthur J. Taul, who preceded her in death on May 15, 1990.
She is survived by one son, Billy Ray Taul, Newport News, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Sam (Pat) Nelson of Elkins; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, nine sisters and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Taul was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Evangelist Denver Cooper will officiate and interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International, PO Box 95, Montrose, W.Va. 26283. From 24 June 2002.

Carol Janet Taylor, 63, of Dunmore, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Dunmore at 2 p.m. Friends may call today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at VanReenen Funeral Home in Marlinton. From 10 May 2002.

Clark H. Taylor
Clark Hardman Taylor, of 7 Lower Drive, Buckhannon, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born on Nov. 7, 1917, in Horner, to the late Milo Taylor and Queen Clark Taylor.
He is survived by Genevieve Jones Taylor, whom he married on June 6, 1940.
He graduated from Weston High School in 1936, where he was a member of the 1935 and 1936 State High School Wrestling Championship teams. He conducted baby beef and sheep projects, both in 4-H and FFA, and also held officer positions in both and was on the livestock and agronomy judging teams. He won first place in agronomy, Gold Medal, in a WVU judging event involving 123 contestants.
He served as Young People program leader, Sunday School superintendent, and on the official board in the Horner Methodist Church. While in Morgantown, he was a member of the Spruce Street Methodist Church and served on the official board, pastoral committee, and chairman of the furnishing committee. He also served as assistant and Cub Scout Master with the Woodburn Elementary School Troop and as teacher of Morse Code and first aid with the Spruce Street Methodist Church Boy Scouts Troop.
In 1938, he was employed with the College of Agriculture at WVU as diary farm superintendent. During his 25 years of employment, the herd received national recognition for production, type and practical experiment work. Upon WVU retirement, a banquet attended by 172 people was held in his honor. He became manager of West Virginia Artificial Breeders Cooperative and was responsible for 32 technicians throughout the state.
In 1970, he joined Southern States as manager of the Clarksburg and the Buckhannon stores. He earned the "Man of Action" award in 1972, Manager of the Year in 1973, merchandising award in 1974, Golden Anniversary Club in 1975, and was recipient of two trips to the Bahamas in 1974 and 1975. As member of 50 & 51 Club, he retired from Southern States in 1980.
He was very active in many West Virginia national agricultural associations. He was secretary-treasurer for 14 years of the West Virginia Holstein Association, which was recognized in 1970 as the top (out of 48) organization in the United States, was elected West Virginia delegate to Ayrshire, Holstein and Angus National Association annual meetings, was officer and director of the West Virginia Dairy Show and the West Virginia Association of Agricultural Industry. He had served as past director, president, vice president and treasurer of the West Virginia Angus Association and on the West Virginia State Farm Bureau Beef Board and the West Virginia University Bull Test Committee. He also served for the Upshur County Farm Bureau as its past president and director, on the Legislative Committee, as director and chairman of its marketing committee, director and past president of the Upshur Livestock Association, director of the Central Livestock Association, member of the Lewis County Livestock Association and American Angus Association and past director and secretary/treasurer of the West Virginia Cattleman Association. He also served as past chairman and director of the Southern States Weston/Buckhannon Store, Southern States Regional Committee for West Virginia, part of Maryland and Virginia for six years, past member of Upshur County Extension Committee, presently a member of the Upshur County 4-H Foundation Board, and very active on the Upshur County Youth and 4-H Camp the past five years, recently active (three years) on the Jackson Mill renovation project involving the pavilion, which houses the livestock facility.
He earned a number of West Virginia agricultural honors including the West Virginia Holstein Merit Award in 1970, the West Virginia Dairyman’s Award in 1977, West Virginia Purebred Beef Breeders Award in 1984, the West Virginia Agriculture Hall of Fame in 1988, the prestigious West Virginia 4-H Alumni Award in 1989, Cattlemen of the Year by West Virginia Cattlemans Association in 1990, Gamma Sigma Delta Award from WVU for distinguish service to West Virginia Agriculture in 1991, first honorary member of WVU Agriculture and Forestry Alumni Association in 1992, Lewis County Soil Conservation County winner in 1993, Upshur County Livestock Service Award in 1994, first and only honorary member of Gamma Sigma Delta of WVU in 1995, and Upshur County Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award in 1996.
He received many honors for his registered Angus herd at West Stonecoal Farm in Horner. From 1986 through 1989, he had the top selling heifer in the West Virginia Angus Calf Sale, the second top Angus bull in the West Virginia Bull Test Station; the Grand Champion Bull and Grand Champion Heifer on numerous occasions as well as Reserve Champion Heifer and the Grand Champion Bull at the West Virginia Angus Breeders Show in 1986 and 2001. In 1991, he had the top selling Angus bull at the first West Virginia Ag Expo.
In 1998, the Clark H. Taylor Scholarship Fun was established at West Virginia University for the Department of Agriculture and Forestry. It now provides student scholarships each year.
He is survived by two sons, Robert of Morgantown, and Charles of Scranton, Pa.; five grandchildren, Robert of Rock Hill, Md., Troy of Morgantown, Shanon and Corinne of Scranton, Pa., and Justin of Clifton, N.J.; and one brother, Franz of Plant City, Fla.
Many students were employed under his direction at the West Virginia University Dairy Farm and without exception, they speak highly of his good influence on them as students.
He was a great believer in "You get out of life on Earth (God) exactly how you plan it." He always treated people like he would like to be treated. He was honest, sincere, fair and got the job done.

John F. Taylor
John F. Taylor, 59, a resident of Mabie, passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 7, 2002, at his home. Death was unexpected.
He was born Nov. 13, 1942, at Mabie, a son of the late Charles Taylor and Leah Wiseman Taylor, with whom he made his home.
He had never married.
He is survived by two brothers, Glenn Taylor of Elkins, and Delmer Taylor of Mabie; three sisters, Evelyn Wilson and Carolyn Sturdivant, both of Elkins, and Connie Skidmore of Mabie; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lonnie Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was a graduate of Coalton High School with the class of 1961 and received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Maryland on Dec. 21, 1975. He was employed by Safeway Super Market in Washington, D.C., prior to his retirement and after returning to Randolph County was employed by Mountain State Realty in Elkins.

Junior W. Taylor
Junior Woodrow Taylor, 65, a resident of Indian Lick Road, Huttonsville, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past several years; however, his condition had been considered critical for the past month.
He was born May 7, 1937, at Dailey, a son of the late Gene and Idris Watson Taylor.
He was formerly married to Juanita Louk, who survives at Huttonsville.
Also surviving are two daughters, Jenny Louk of Huttonsville, and Janie Jo Hinchman of Greenville, Va.; one stepson, Benjamin "Frank" Hite and wife, Sue, of Mill Creek; one sister, Eva Conti of Mill Creek; eight grandchildren, Frank, Danielle, Brandon, Travis and Justin Hite, Jessica Pritt and Robin and Sierra Louk; three great-grandchildren, Coby, Brittany and Sierra; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was an infant daughter, Penny Taylor; one sister, Elvie Taylor; and two brothers, Raymond and Edward Taylor.
He never met a stranger and was well known for helping everyone around him. He was one who never said no and went out of his way to lend a helping hand.
He was employed as a truck driver for R.H. Armstrong Co., retiring in 1979 due to failing health. He attended Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church and the Light of the Valley Church.
Friends will be received today after 7 p.m. at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel. On Wednesday, he will be moved to the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church for visitation from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Frank Long, pastor of the church, will officiate. Luvera V. Taylor
Luvera V. Morrison Taylor, 78, of HC Box 246, Rock Cave, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at her home in Kanawha Head.
Mrs. Taylor was born March 30, 1924, in Eden, a daughter of the late Willis Wade and Martha Alice Taylor Morrison.
She was twice married. First, she married William Esker Gregory, who preceded her in death. Second, she married Arnold O. Taylor, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Dewain Gregory and wife, Janet, Buckhannon, Steven Gregory and wife, Sandy, Roanoke, and John Gregory and wife, Barbie, Eden; three daughters, Mary Zink and husband, William, Wheeling, Nancy McCune and husband, Charles, Weston, Linda Moore-Foglesong and husband, Ken, Glenville; two sisters, Iva Waugh, Buckhannon, and Genevieve Gregory, Conway, Pa.; one brother, Dewey Morrison, Lakeland, Fla.; six grandsons, Mikie, Doug, Steven, Tim, Chris, Dion; eight granddaughters, Sherica, Shauna, Angie, Leslie, Melissa, Carmen, Rhonda and Marley; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Nellie, Emma, Irene, Mary, Russie and Hazel; and four brothers, Floyd, Buck, Harold and Merl.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Rock Cave Senior Saints, trustee and treasurer for Eden Community Building and an active member of Rock Cave Baptist Church.

Opal M. Taylor
Opal Mae Taylor, 92, of 3381 Darrow Road, Stow, Ohio, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio.
Mrs. Taylor was born July 27, 1910, in Roanoke, a daughter of the late Ovie Guy and Mary Ollie Jeffries Jeffries.
On May 19, 1929, she married James Audley Taylor, who preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1975.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth and husband, Charles Adams, Stow, Ohio, and Joyce V. Crites, Buckhannon; three granddaughters, Vicki Altomare and John, Munroe Falls, Ohio, Susie and husband, Lynn Miller, Buckhannon, and Mary Pryor and Chris, Akron, Ohio; six grandsons, Randy Adams and Joleine, Stow, Ohio, Rick Crites and wife, Debby Milburn, Kingsport, Tenn., David Gibson, Seattle, Wash., Bruce Gibson and Shirley, Barnardsville, N.C., Terry Gibson, Seattle, Wash., and James R. Gibson, Akron, Ohio; 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Billy Joe Taylor; two daughters, Helen June Gibson and Mary Lou Taylor; two sisters, Anna Mae Knight and Madeline Jeffries; and one son-in-law, Frank Crites.
Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker. She was a Methodist by faith.

Fay Lucille Teets, 96, of 115 Camden Ave., Buckhannon, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
Mrs. Teets was born May 6, 1905, in Oberlin, Ohio, a daughter of the late Harley and Mary Nolan Worchester.
On July 17, 1939, she married Woodrow Wilson Teets, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Jerry Teets, Warrenton, Va.; a daughter, Linda Gardner, Lyn Haven, Fla.; three grandsons, Guy Teets, Newport News, Va., Adam Gardner and Eric Gardner, both of Lyn Haven, Fla.; a granddaughter, Trisha Scruggs, Ft. Riley, Kan.; and three great-grandsons, Dustin Teets, Germany, and Aiden Scruggs and Cyrus Scruggs, both of Ft. Riley, Kan.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Myron Worchester and Door Worchester.
Mrs. Teets was a homemaker. She was a member of Frank B. Bartlett Post 7, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Tennerton Homemakers Club. She attended Tennerton United Methodist Church.

Stella Agnes Teets, 81, of Meadowview Manor, Bridgeport, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
She was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late C.C. "Jim" and Ada Mae Warner Teets.
Surviving are three double first cousins, Hartzel Warner, Buckhannon, Clyde Warner, Newark, Ohio, and Betty Gaunt, Buckhannon; and nine cousins, Oren Zirkle, Shinnston, Woodrow Wilson Teets, Buckhannon, Louis Teets, Clearwater, Fla., Charles Teets, Palm Harbor, Fla., Dorothy Edgell, Shinnston, Wilma Thomas, Fairmont, Mary Smith, Sistersville, June Patterson and Ada Mae Riley, both of Buckhannon.
She was an office manager for Atomic Energy Commission in Washington, D.C. She was a member of Maryland Humane Society.

Violet L. Teets
Violet L. Kendall Teets, 85, of Alliance Personal Care in Grafton, died Friday, June 14, 2002, in Grafton Hospital in Grafton.
She was born March 18, 1917, at Elmira, a daughter of the late Francis Lee and Bertha Edgell Kendall.
On April 5, 1947, she married Arthur Ross Teets, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Louise Golden, Westerville, Ohio; one son, Arthur Ross Teets II, Middleville Road, Flemington; three sisters, Hazel Hall, Barberton, Ohio, Delphia Tanner, Virginia Beach, Va., and Macie Jarvis, Richmond, Va.; one brother, Selby Kendall, Fairmont; two grandsons, Garrett Teets and Adam Teets, both of Flemington; one granddaughter, Kathryn Golden, Westerville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by seven sisters, Bonnie Kendall, Chloe Richardson, Pearl Brown, Vera Hosie, Maysel Jarvis, Myrtle Cottrill and Iza Lowther; and three brothers, Ambert Kendall, Drexel Kendall and Adrian Kendall.
She was a seamstress. She was very active with the cancer society. She was a former member of Tennerton’s Homemaker Club. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints. From 15 June 2002.

Alfred Tenney
Alfred "Alfie" Tenney, 15, of Route 2, Box 240 A, French Creek, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in Oklahoma City, Okla., following an accidental shooting.
He was born July 14, 1987, at Elkins, a son of Danny Tenney and Mary Young Tenney, who survive in French Creek.
Also surviving are three brothers, Joshua Tenney, Danny Tenney Jr. and Dusty Tenney, all of French Creek; paternal grandparents, Robert D. and Mamie Tenney Sr., French Creek; four aunts, Diana Gould, Adrian, Connie Tiffner, Ginger Tenney and Nettie Mae Allen, all of French Creek; three uncles, Robert Tenney, Edd Tenney and Matthew Tenney, all of French Creek; and a special friend, Darren Bowman, Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Burma Young Hamner.
He was a student at Buckhannon-Upshur High School. He was a Johavah’s Witness.

Arthur Ray Tenney, 56, of Route 2, French Creek, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
Mr. Tenney was born Feb. 6, 1945, in Upshur County, a son of the late Hobart and Della Elizabeth Casto Tenney.
He married Betty R. Cobb Tenney, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Cindy Riffle, Englewood, Tenn., and Charlotte Williams, North Richville, Ohio; two sons, Dale Lee Tenney, Elyria, Ohio, and Arthur R. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dave Tenney.

Boyd R. Tenney
Boyd R. Tenney, 81, of HC 36 Box 34, Tallmansville, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at his home in Tallmansville.
He was born June 9, 1920, at Tallmansville, a son of the late David A. and Crecia Cain Tenney.
On Oct. 29, 1938, he married Margery V. Hornbeck Tenney, who survives at Tallmansville.
Also surviving are six sons, Ronald L. Tenney and Ida, Lake Wylie, S.C., Darrel R. Tenney and wife, Linda Jane, Poquoson, Va., David A. Tenney and wife, Martha, Lost Creek, Kenneth W. Tenney and wife, Crystal, Mt. Carmel, the Rev. Bradley L. Tenney and wife, Judith, Tallmansville, and Bruce S. Tenney and wife, Tammy, Yorktown, Va.; one brother, Paul C. Tenney and wife, Ada, Canal Fulton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior Tenney and Sherman A. Tenney; and two sisters, Beulah Craven and Ruby Marie Tenney.
Mr. Tenney was a coal miner for Upshur Coal Co. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines.

Evelyn M. Tenney, 69, of Factory St., Buckhannon, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at her home.
Ms. Tenney was born July 27, 1932, in Tenmile, a daughter of the late Glenn and Vivia Tenney Tenney.
Surviving are a brother, Darrell Tenney, Grove City, Pa.; three sisters, Etta Herndon, Cairo, Louise Holbert, Akron, Ohio, and Olene Turner, Weston; and several nieces and nephews.

Gwendolyn Opal Tenney, 75, of Hemlock, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
Mrs. Tenney was born Feb. 26, 1927, in Erwin, a daughter of the late Grant Filip and Theodosia Lewis Moats.
On May 3, 1944, she married Basil "Chuck" Tenney, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Clyde Tenney, Carroll Tenney, Terry Tenney and Shawn Tenney, all of Buckhannon; four daughters, Jean Gifford, Buckhannon, Norma Cook, Fayetteville, N.C., Loretta Stump, Indiana, Pa., and Wanda Matthews, Buckhannon; a brother, Leslie Moats, Terra Alta; three sisters, Betty Tennant, Fairview, Delores Arnold, Winchester, Va., and Loretta Hiser, Baltimore, Md.; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Tenney; three brothers, Israel June Moats, Harry Moats and Wayne Moats; a granddaughter, Meghan Hope Tenney; and a great-granddaughter, Allison Hope Stump.
Mrs. Tenney was a homemaker. She attended Mt. Olive United Methodist Church.

James M. Tenney, 75, a resident of Cassity, passed away at 8:03 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, at his home.
He was born March 3, 1932, at Hemlock, a son of Thomas Jefferson Tenney of Adolph, and the late Violet Emma Daniels Tenney.
He was married March 15, 1954, to the former Lucille Ellen Richardson, who survives at Cassity.

Mary Ilean Tenney, 64, of Route 1, Crawford, the Heaston Ridge Community, died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at her home.
She was born June 5, 1937, at Eden, a daughter of the late Kempton B. and Russie Morrison Gregory.
She was united in marriage on Oct. 17, 1957, to Charles R. Tenney, who survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Ronald L. Tenney and wife, Denise, of Horner; two grandchildren, Megan and Devin Tenney, both of Horner; two brothers, Floyd Gregory of Eden, and Roscoe Gregory of Selbyville; and one sister, Shirley Gregory of the Heaston Road.
She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Tenney; one infant son and one brother, Kenneth Gregory.

Wilbert W. Tenney
Wilbert Ward "Pete" Tenney, 91, a resident of 18 S. Walnut St., Philippi, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
He was born Feb. 7, 1911, at Gassaway, a son of the late Okey Blaine and Trottye Ward Tenney.
His wife of 65 years, the former Susan Morrison, whom he married Aug. 10, 1937, survives.
Also surviving are one sister, Dorothy Lea Radabaugh, Volga; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Blaine and William Tenney.
Mr. Tenney was a farmer by profession and in 1966 was grand champion "Farming for Better Living." He was past president and director of the Barbour County Historical Society. He attended the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church.

He was born Dec. 25, 1966, in Elkins, a son of Jerry R. Teter, formerly of Onego and Patricia Cooper Teter, formerly of Elkins, who survives at Bruceton Mills.
Also surviving are his paternal grandmother, Ella Teter of Elkins; his maternal grandmother, Gelda Cooper of Lake Helen, Fla.; his fiance, Cari Snider; his daughter, Marissa; and several aunts and uncles.
He received his bachelor of science degree in accounting from West Virginia University and was currently employed by Horizon Realty of Bruceton Mills. He also enjoyed farming.

Robert Basil Teter, 66, of Route 3, Box 316, Buckhannon, died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
Mr. Teter was born Feb. 16, 1936, in Upshur County, a son of William Howard Teter, who survives in Buckhannon, and the late Tina Louise Smith Teter.
Also surviving are three brothers, William C. Teter, Thomas R. Teter and Jerry L. Teter, all of Buckhannon; one sister, Linda Canfield, Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Teter served in the National Guard for six years. He attended Reger Chapel United Methodist Church.

Orpha B. Teter, 96, a resident of Elkins and a patient in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away Tuesday evening, March 12, 2002, in the center.
She was born July 20, 1905, at Harman, a daughter of the late Solomon and Alice Teter Smith.
On June 21, 1930, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Howard Charles Teter, who preceded her in death on July 11, 1962.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Teter and wife, Margaret, of Newburg, and Gerald Teter and wife, Jean, of Elkins; four daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Marie) Schoonover of Elkins, Mrs. Charles (Savannah) Rhodes of Dartmoor, Mrs. Ivan (Lucille) Fortney of Newburg, and Ruth Harman of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Nina Smith of Dailey, and Alta Smith of Elkins; 29 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were seven brothers, Okey, Garber, Gilbert, Morren, Don, Joel and Omer; three sisters, Rosa, Sylvia and Virginia; and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Teter was employed at Elkins IOOF Home prior to her retirement. She was a member of Delphia Rebekah Lodge No. 62 and a Pentecostal by faith.

Elsie Rose Dolly Thompson, 78, a resident of the Pheasant Run community and for the past four years a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home, departed this life Saturday morning, May 4, 2002, at the home. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to diabetes.
She was born Aug. 14, 1923, at Onego, a daughter of the late Henry Clay Dolly and Dora Dessie Kisamore Dolly.
She was married to Clyde Jackson Thompson, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Hancel Jackson "Hank" Thompson, Elkins; one daughter, Comonia Rose Channels and husband, Floyd, Pheasant Run; one sister, Emma Belton, Pheasant Run; four grandchildren, Steven C. Channels, Florida, Windy R. Williams, Kerens, Bryan J. Thompson, Fairmont, and Justin S. Thompson, Pheasant Run; and two grandchildren, Austin C. Channels, Fla., and Taylor R. Williams, Kerens.
Preceding her in death is one sister, Erma Mae Channels.

On Dec. 19, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Mavis Catherine Corley, who survives at Mt. Liberty.

Okey Harold "Buddy" Jr., 27, a resident of Route 2, Elkins, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2002, at 12:35 p.m. in Davis Memorial Hospital emergency room, from injuries sustained in an accident.
He was born Aug. 2, 1974, in Elkins, a son of the late Okey Harold Thompson and Wanda Rowan Thompson, who survives at Route 2, the Cravens Run community.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Lola E. Thompson of the Cravens Run community; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding him in death besides his father were his maternal grandparents, Jeffie and Lola Poling Rowan; and his paternal grandmother, Edna Thompson.
"Buddy" was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1993, the last class to graduate from the old Elkins High. He was formerly employed by the Kroger Co. and loved mowing and cleaning yards for various families in the area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel Monday after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner Chapel Tuesday at 11a.m. Pastor Ralph Andrus, of the Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Mrs. Thorne was born Feb. 23, 1916, in Grant County, a daughter of the late Orva Justin Mauzy and Lena Feaster Mauzy.
She married Earl M. Thorne, who preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1979.
Surviving are a son, Justin Thorne, Moorefield; four daughters, Arlena Sites, Quicksburg, Va., Juanita Brady and Sylvia Sites, both of Petersburg, and Betty Barbe, Old Fields; two sisters, Mary Alice Conrad, Petersburg, and Carrie Bergdoll, Augusta; four brothers, Ronald Mauzy, Petersburg, Raymond Mauzy, Dorcas, Marvin Mauzy, Falls Church, Va., and Glen Mauzy, Petersburg; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three grandsons, Michael Earl Brady, infant Bruce Wayne Sites and infant Kenneth Dewayne Sites; a great-grandson, infant Hayes Coppe; a sister, Viola Mongold; and three brothers, James Mauzy, the Rev. Carl Mauzy and Virgil Mauzy.
Mrs. Thorne was a homemaker.
She was a member of Brake Church of the Brethren.

Lowell "Raymond" Thorne, 44, of 304 Watkins St., Belington, died Friday evening, Oct. 11, 2002, at his home, following an extended illness.
He was born July 31, 1958, at Elkins, a son of Lowell Thomas and Vivian Eileen Ware Thorne, who survive at Belington.
On June 21, 1997, he married the former Della Marie Davis, who survives at Watkins Street, Belington.
Also surviving are one son, Nicholas Thorne, Belington; two daughters, Kara Thorne and Sara Thorne, both in Texas; one stepson, Travis Felton, Belington; two brothers, Thomas Larry Thorne, Belington, and Roy Dale Thorne, Texas; two sisters, Helena Blanche Price, Junior, and Mary George, Norton; two adoptive brothers, Jerry Lovett Thorne, Elkins, and Christopher Gene Thorne, Belington; and one grandson, Jonathan Lyons.
Mr. Thorne was a former over-the-road truck driver and lumber mill lift operator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

She was united in marriage to Ronald Thorne, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1997.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and husband, David Brewer, Fairmont, and Renee and husband, Brian Curtis, Buckhannon; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard and wife, Stephanie Thorne, Brandywine, and Rodney "Albert" Thorne and companion, Linda Westbrook, Volga; a companion, John Saffle, Volga; four sisters, Vivian Arbogast, Buckhannon, Carol Criss, Philippi, Betty Elwood, Loraine, Ohio, and Opal Skidmore, Norton; four brothers, Ivan Zirkle, Avon, Ohio, Howard Wayne Zirkle, Elyria, Ohio, Donald L. In her earlier years, she was a coal miner, having been employed at Kitt Energy and Upshur Coal. She was co-operator of J&S Grocery Store at Century.
She was a member of United Mine Workers’ District 31.
She was a United Methodist by faith.

Charles W. Tinney
Charles W. "Chuck" Tinney, 82, of Valley Bend and a retired educator and coach, departed this life at 1:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2002, at his home.
He was born April 29, 1920, at Weston, the oldest of 10 children, of the late William G. and Blanche Kern Tinney.
He attended Lewis County schools, graduating from Weston High School. While in high school, he enlisted in the National Guard, which was activated in January 1940, and the entire Company E, 201st Infantry was sent to the Aleutian Islands in Alaska after receiving training at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Ind. After war was declared, on Dec. 8, 1941, he entered active service as part of the U.S. Army on Jan. 6, 1941, and was sent to Camp Carson, Colo.
He volunteered for Parachute School in Fort Benning, Ga. After completing training, he was sent to the European Theater, serving in England, France and Germany. He was attached to both the 82nd and the 101st Airborne in Europe, and was discharged on Sept. 23, 1945, from Fort George G. Meade in Maryland. He had served a total of five years and 11 months, and more than three years of that time was foreign service.
After his discharge, he returned home to Lewis County, and spent the time until January of 1946, working as a brakeman for the B&O Railroad, when he enrolled under the GI Bill as a freshman at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
While attending Wesleyan, he met and married his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Victoria Snyder Tinney, who survives in Valley Bend. He graduated from Wesleyan in 1949, and was inducted into the Emeritus Club in 1999. He became a member of the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity in 1947, serving as chaplain and pledgemaster.
He began teaching in 1950 at a one-room school, Hickory Lick, then at Monterville and Homestead and finally at Tygarts Valley High School, where he retired after 39 years of teaching.
While at Tygarts Valley, he served as head and assistant coach for basketball, assistant coach for football and baseball. While he was assistant coach with Floyd Thomas, Tygarts Valley won two consecutive state baseball championships, the only state titles ever won in athletics at the school.
He was a member of, besides the two mentioned concerning Wesleyan, many other organizations. He was a member of the NEA, WVEA and the RCEA, serving as president of the organization in 1967-68 when sanctions were placed on Randolph County Schools on Sept. 11, 1967. After a special election in December, showing support for teachers, the sanctions were lifted.
He was a member of four masonic bodies: Randolph Chapter 55 AF & AM, Royal Arch Masons, Chapter 23, and was a brother in good standing of the 16th and 32nd degrees in Clarksburg and Wheeling.
He was a life member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 of the American Legion, and the Elkins Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a member of the Tygart Valley Lions Club, where he had served as president from 1974-75, when he was also Lion of the Year. For 29-I, he served as zone chairman from 1975-77, deputy district governor from 1977-78, sight conservation chairman from 1978-79, and chairman of Leo Clubs from 1979-80. He received the Leonard Jarrett Award in 2000.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Carol Elizabeth and husband, Bill Forester, of Lexington, Ky., Mary Louise Tinney of San Francisco, Calif., Sarah Beth "Betsy" and husband, Marc Czajkowski, of Champaign, Ill., and Ann Margaret and husband, Clive Watson, of Germantown, Md.; four grandchildren, Brett David Czajkowski, a junior at Miami of Ohio University in Oxford, Ohio, Regan Elizabeth Forester, a sophomore at UCLA, Kathleen Chelsea and Charles Matthew Watson of Germantown, Md.; and two sisters, Eula Rust and Mary Huggins of Winona Lake, Ind.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Frank, and five sisters, Evelyn Fisher, Eva Taylor, Leta Blake, Madaline Russell and Zelma Cross.
Friends will be received in the parlor of the First Baptist Church, 412 Randolph Ave., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and in the church sanctuary Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. Helen D. Tipton
Helen D. Tipton, 89, a native of Tucker County, and a resident of Eureka, Fla., for more than 20 years, departed this life early Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at the Monroe Regional Medical Center at Ocala, Fla., as a result of injuries sustained from an automobile accident on Nov. 13, 2002.
She was born Sunday, Sept. 7, 1913, at Parsons, a daughter of the late James Tahaney and Savilla Gray Tahaney.
She was twice married. First, she was married to Fred Gardner, who preceded her in death, and then she was married to Guy Tipton, who also preceded her in death.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Stead, Robert, Charlie and Edgar Tahaney; and one sister, Genevieve Stein.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1932. She was a homemaker. She had attended the First Baptist Church of Fort McCoy, Fla., and enjoyed bingo and horse racing.

Betty Rae Tracy, 74, of Princeton, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at her residence.

Bernice C. Trahern
Bernice C. Moore Weese Trahern, 96, a former resident of 920 South Davis Ave., Elkins, and more recently a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, departed this life at 11:50 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2002, at the center. She had been in declining health for the past several weeks.
She was born Saturday, Feb. 3, 1906, at Belington, a daughter of the late Wade H. Moore and Dora Edmond Moore.
She was twice married. First, to Dolph Weese, who preceded her in death. Second, during 1946, she was married to Paul H. Trahern, who preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1989.
Surviving are one son, Edward "Jake" Weese, East Liverpool, Ohio; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one son, Guy Weese; two brothers, Byrd and Bretsel Moore; and one sister, Martha L. Hanger.
She attended the schools of Barbour County. She was a cook for the Elkins Lodge No. 1135, BPOE and was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. From 15 July 2002.

Betty J. Van Trees
Betty Jean "Jeanie" Locklin Van Trees, 50, of Reston, Va., died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, Va. Graveside services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Franklin. From 29 July 2002.

Edna N. Triplett
Edna N. Bowers Triplett, 82, a former resident of Elkins, and a resident of Belleville, where she made her home with her daughter, Norma Woods, passed away at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2002, following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 15, 1919, at Glady, a daughter of the late Jacob and Bessie Fleming Bowers.
She was twice married. First, she married Emmett Cook, who preceded her in death in 1949, and later to Harry J. Triplett, who died on Jan. 24, 1992.
She is survived by one son, Emmett J. Cook Jr., Holidaysburg, Pa.; two daughters, Norma Lee Woods, Belleville, and Linda McCauley of Elkins; three sisters, Juanita Bodkins of Elkins, Margaret Craigs, Cleveland, Ohio, and Louise Mariner of Baltimore, Md.; 13 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were five brothers, five sisters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
Mrs. Triplett was a homemaker and was employed in the housekeeping department of the Memorial General Hospital prior to retirement in 1985.

Geneva H. Triplett
Geneva Harris Triplett, 89, formerly of Cheat Bridge, Randolph County, died at 4:47 a.m. today, Jan. 25, 2002.
Mrs. Triplett was born June 13, 1912, in Glady, a daughter of the late Raphael Simon and Lena Bowers Harris.
On Sept. 22, 1929, in Oakland, Md., she married Charles Robert Triplett, who preceded her in death in January 1970.
Surviving are a son, George R. Triplett and daughter-in-law, Frances Rossi Triplett, Elkins; a brother, Robert Harris, Marlinton; four sisters, Mabel Harris Payne and Greta Harris Miller, both of Parsons, Jeanette Harris Beck and Alice Harris Antolini, both of Elkins; three grandsons, Dr. George R. Triplett Jr., Lexington, Va., Charles E. Triplett, CPA, Buckhannon, and Lt. Commander Jefferson Lee Triplett, Annapolis, Md.; two great-grandsons, George Andrew Triplett and Robert Charles Triplett, born Jan. 20, 2002; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Allen Harris, Ralph "Doc" Harris, Jack Harris, James Jessie Harris and Fielding Harris.
Mrs. Triplett attended the schools of Randolph County and Elkins High School. She was a member of Wayside Methodist Church and Randolph County Melody Chorus. She was at one time employed by Cheat Mountain Lodge at Cheat Bridge and was a homemaker.

Stewart C. Triplett
Stewart C. Triplett, 81, of N. Bergen, N.J., died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, in Englewood, N.J., following an extended illness.
He was born June 28, 1921, at Belington, a son of the late George and Minnie Coonts Triplett.
He was the last member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by five sisters, Virgie Hill, Goldie Triplett, Dorothy Phillips, Evelyn Reese and Mary Alice Giordano; and two brothers, Earl Triplett and Oscar Triplett.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mr. Triplett was retired as a self-employed upholsterer. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater with the 393rd Field Artillery. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the First Baptist Church at Cliffside Park, N.J.
Friends were received at Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington Saturday and Sunday, where funeral services were conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Downing Gregory officiating. Interment followed in Belington Fraternal Cemetery, where Barbour Post 44 of the American Legion conducted graveside military rites. From 24 June 2002.

Howard C. Troy Sr.
Howard Clyde Troy Sr., 88, a resident of 114 Ellis Ave., Elkins, departed this life Friday afternoon, Dec. 13, 2002, at Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to Alzheimer’s Disease.
He was born Saturday, July 11, 1914, at Fairmont, a son of the late Mansfield Troy and Florence Hibbs Troy Myers.
On Feb. 6, 1937, at Elkins, he was married to the former Winifred Taylor, who preceded him in death on May 19, 1988.
Surviving are two sons, Howard Clyde Troy Jr., Falmouth, Va., and Kenneth S. Troy, Berkeley Springs; one daughter, Ann T. Wood, Salem, Va.; one sister, Madeline Hopkins, Washington, Pa.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey A. Troy; and one brother, Harold Robert Troy.
He attended the schools of Fairmont and Mannington, was employed by Columbia and Carbon, which later became Citgo Corp., retiring in 1979 as a production supervisor. He was a member of the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed hunting.

Frank Tucci
Frank Tucci, 73, a resident of Torrance, Calif., departed this life Monday, July 1, 2002.
He was born Sept. 19, 1928, at Pennsylvania, and had lived in Torrance for the past 32 years.
Surviving are one sister, Josephine Roth, 2414 West 229th St., Torrance, Calif., 90501; one niece, Mary Jo Roth; and one nephew, Joseph Roth.
He was a graduate of Davis & Elkins College and West Virginia University. He was a supervisor and had worked 28 years for the California Rehabilitation Department.

Juanita R. Turner
Juanita Rose Turner, 60, of Red Creek, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg. Death was attributed to complications from cancer.
Mrs. Turner was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Baltimore, Md., a daughter of the late Joseph and Lorraine Boilus Davis.
On Nov. 1, 1958, she married Tommy R. Turner, who survives in Red Creek.
Also surviving are a son, Tommy R. Turner Jr., Elkton, Md.; a daughter, Robin Judy and husband, Greg, Harman; two brothers, Joseph and Gerald Davis, both of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren, Tommy R. Turner III, Melissa R. Judy, Mandy Lynn Turner and Corinne A. Judy; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Bartell, Delaware; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Jimmy Davis.
Mrs. Turner was employed for many years as a secretary at Deerfield Village in Canaan Valley. She was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Davis.
Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Davis Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the church Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Allen Schwartz officiating. Martha J. Turner
Martha Jean Turner, 50, a teacher, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Sept. 13 at Trinity Baptist Temple. Graveside service were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 13 in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Temple Academy Scholarship Fund, 6045 W.J. Boaz Road, Saginaw, Texas 76179.
She was born Aug. 15, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio.
She taught for 24 years, teaching in Japan and Fort Worth at Castleberry Christian School and Trinity Baptist Academy. She was a children’s church teacher and a leader in Sister to Sister and always a prayer warrior.
Survivors include her husband, William Turner of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Leon Turner of Saginaw; daughter, Roalyn Turner of Fort Worth, Texas; mother, Autrice Lewis, and brother, Mark Grigsby, both of Elkins; and a host of friends and other relatives. From 30 Sep 2002.

Helen F. Twigg
Helen Fretwell Twigg, 85, a native of Valley Head, formerly of Cumberland, Md., and more recently of 514 Dale Drive, Fayetteville, N.C., died at 4:03 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, N.C.
Mrs. Twigg was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Valley Head, a daughter of the late Charles Jennings Fretwell and Sylvia E. Ware Fretwell.
She married Thurman Twigg, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Morris and husband, Sterling, Fayetteville, N.C.; three brothers, Merrill "John" Fretwell, Elkins, Robert Fretwell, Saint Albans, and Sylvester Fretwell, Monroe, Conn.; a sister, Mariam Collett, Elkins; a grandson, Brian Morris, Fayetteville, N.C.; and a great-grandson, Brandon Morris, Fayetteville, N.C.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Uncas Laniere Fretwell; and a sister, Coleen Fretwell.
Mrs. Twigg had worked as a waitress.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Cumberland, Md.

Maggie Virginia Tyson, 84, of Slatyfork, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, following a chronic illness.
