Melville L. O’Brien
Melville Lee "Punch" O’Brien, 73, a resident of the Audra community in Belington, departed this life at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday evening, Oct. 23, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, after being a patient there for nine weeks.
He was born March 7, 1929, near Belington, a son of the late Michael Aaron O’Brien Sr. and Goldie Wilson O’Brien.
In 1955, he was married to the former Helen Booth, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Steve O’Brien and wife, Vea, and Shawn O’Brien, all of Belington; two sisters, Patricia Douglas and husband, Dan, of Vienna, and Sharon Stone and husband, Charles, of Bloomington, Ind. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Richard Scott O’Brien and wife, Marsha, Casey Edmond and husband, Jason, Eric Harris and Kelli Harris; five great-grandchildren, Trenton O’Brien, Devin, Ethan and Autumn Edmond and Tre Plauger; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Aaron O’Brien Jr.
Mr. O’Brien was a 1946 graduate of the Belington High School and attended the West Virginia Wesleyan College for two years, where he was a business and religion major. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. at the end of World War II, and was retired from Brown Lumber Co., where he was employed in the sales department. He was a member of the VFW Laurel Mountain Post 410 in Belington, where he was a past commander, was a member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion in Elkins, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Clarksburg and was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. F.L. "Wink" McQuain officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Philippi. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Melville Lee "Punch" O’Brien. From 24 Oct. 2002.

Clarence O’Dell
Clarence O’Dell, 82, of Ireland, the Bablin Ingo Road, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, in Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
Mr. O’Dell was born May 28, 1919, in Nettie, in Nicholas County, a son of the late Wesley and Nettie Whitman O’Dell.
He married Jean Bleigh O’Dell, who survives in Ireland.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by an uncle, Newman Whitman, Summersville.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Chester O’Dell.
Mr. O’Dell attended the Elijah Chapel United Methodist Church at Bablin. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He had worked at Weston Laundry and Dry Cleaners and retired from the Weston State Hospital. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Weston, a member of the American Legion Post 4 of Weston and a lifetime member of the DAV.
Friends will be received at Alkire Funeral Chapel today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Doug Smailes officiating. Interment will follow in McCutchan Chapel. From 17 Apr 2002.

Lawrence O’Donnell
Lawrence Richard O’Donnell, 80, a resident of Route 1, the Talbott Road in Belington, departed this life at 1 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2002, at his home, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 13, 1921, at Rahway, N.J., a son of the late Patrick and Freda Drager O’Donnell.
In 1943, at Chicago, he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Tomaso, who survives at their home in Belington.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Donovan, Martinsburg; and two grandchildren, Leela and Ashley Noronha.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, John O’Donnell.
Mr. O’Donnell attended the schools of Rahway, N.J. He was retired from the Harris-Seybold Co. in New York.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a Roman Catholic.
At the request of the deceased his remains will be cremated. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. The family ask that memorial contributions be made to the Randolph County Humane Society. From 22 Apr 2002.

James B. Oldaker
James Burton Oldaker, 75, of Route 4, Buckhannon, Kesling Mill Road, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Oldaker was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Coleman and Freda Day Oldaker.
On May 17, 1945, he married Ruth Mahala Bennett Oldaker, who preceded him in death on Sept. 18, 1996.
Surviving are three sons, Danny Oldaker, Scott Oldaker and James "Jimmy" Oldaker, all of Buckhannon; five daughters, Susan Benson, Sandra Ball and Mary Perkins, all of Buckhannon, Peggy Thorne of Philippi, and Marsha Allman of Jane Lew; three sisters, Helen Wagner and Augustine Green, both of Buckhannon, and Dorothy Hill of Georgia; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Roger Allen Oldaker; one grandson, two twin great-granddaughters and one sister.
Mr. Oldaker was a truck driver.
Friends will be received at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. S.L. Green officiating. Interment will follow in Buckhannon Memorial Park. From 7 Sep 2002.

Anna L. Orndorff
Anna L. Orndorff, 79, of Green Bank, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Wyngate Assisted Living Facility, Barboursville.
She was a life-long resident of Green Bank. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sisters.
Given to us by God on Sept. 6, 1922, at Boyer, a daughter of the late Charlie and Sadie Wilfong Myers of Boyer.
Surviving are four daughters, Shirley Phillips of Gassaway, Carol Ergenbright of Tallahassee, Fla., Rosella Wooddell of Huntington, and Ramona Arnold of Sarasota, Fla.; one brother, Robert Myers of White Hall, Md.; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of devoted friends.
Friends may call today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Arbovale United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. David Rittenhouse and the Rev. Scott Ingleton officiating. Interment will follow in Arbovale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Arbovale United Methodist Church. Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale is in charge of the arrangements. From 11 and 12 June 2002.

John B. Osburn
John Burkett Osburn, 75, of Route 2, Box 150, Buckhannon, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at his home in Buckhannon.
Mr. Osburn was born May 17, 1926, in Upshur County, a son of the late Benjamin and Madge A. Shipman Osburn.
On July 12, 1948, he married Gloria Jean Morris Osburn, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, John Wayne Osburn, Buckhannon; three daughters, Judie Black and husband, John, Buckhannon, Karen Cobb and husband, Junior, French Creek, and Anna Lou Scott and husband, Richard, Loxahatchee, Fla.; one sister, Alta Holden, Buckhannon; three brothers, Harrison Orsburn, Tallmansville, Junior Orsburn, Buckhannon, and Earl Orsburn, Clarksburg; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie McCartney and Juanita Osburn; one brother, Ralph Orsburn; and one grandson, Matthew David Black.
Mr. Osburn was an auto mechanic for LL Moss. He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart while in Germany. He attended Sand Run Baptist Church.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Graveside services will be at Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Morris and the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. Interment will follow. Buckhannon VFW Post 3663 and Frank B. Bartlett Post 7, American Legion will conduct military honors at the graveside. Elesta L. Ours
Elesta Lucille Mullennex Ours, a resident of Edgewater, Md., for 30 years, departed this life on Wednesday, June 5, 2002, after an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 6, 1945, at Harman.
She graduated from Harman High School with the Class of 1964. She was a homemaker and worked for 18 years at Adams Restaurant in Edgewater.
She is survived by her parents, David Mullennex of Job, and Betty June Prentiss of Elkins; two children, Tracy Ours of Stevensville, Md., and Lisa Turner of Cape St. Claire, Md.; three sisters, Frances MacMillan of Folsom, Calif., Linda Elza of Elkins, and Teresa Sario of Titusville, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Kalas Funeral Home in Edgewater on June 27, 2002. The family will have a graveside service at the Mullennex Cemetery at Job. From 11 and 12 June 2002.

Frank M. Ours
Frank Marshall Ours, 61, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Monday afternoon, July 29, 2002, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected and was due to a massive heart attack.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and under the direction of Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home in Parsons. From 30 July 2002.

Frank M. Ours
Frank Marshall Ours, 61, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Monday afternoon, July 29, 2002, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected and was attributed to a massive heart attack.
He was born Aug. 18, 1940, a son of the late John Marshall Ours and Katherine Louise Minear Ours.
On Aug. 5, 1972, he was married to the former Stephanie Shreve of Parsons, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Paul Marshall Ours, Morgantown; two sisters, Roberta Ours Snyder, Boca Raton, Fla., and Ruth Louise Ours Lee, Honolulu, Hawaii; his mother-in-law, Billie Ours Shreve, Elkins; his brother-in-law, Gary R. Snyder, Boca Raton, Fla.; his nephew, John Marshall Lee, Los Angeles, Calif.; and two nieces, Robin Snyder Hassett, Florida, and Kimberly Snyder, Boca Raton, Fla.
He was preceded in death by one nephew, G. Richard Snyder; and his father-in-law, Paul E. Shreve.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1958 and attended Potomac State College, majoring in business. He served in the U.S. Navy, as a class (E-5) AMS2, metalsmith, and in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was owner of the former Ours Motor Company and ran a body shop in Parsons. For the past 31 years, he owned and operated Signs by Ours in Parsons.
Mr. Ours’ avid interest in science led to his having been awarded two patents and having had articles published in popular science and organic gardening journals. He also created technical drawings for gardening magazines and published two booklets on winter gardening. He was a lifelong member of Parsons Presbyterian Church, having served as deacon and trustee. He was a former member of the Elkins Astronomy Club and the Parsons Lions Club.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of family. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. From 31 July 2002.

Frank Marshall Ours
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Parsons Presbyterian Church at which time a memorial service will be held. The Rev. David Crapnell and the Rev. David Bower will officiate and interment of the cremains will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the American Heart Association, the Tucker County Emergency Squad of the Parsons Presbyterian Church. Fred Amos Ours, 74, of Maysville, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at his residence.
Friends will be received at Schaeffer Funeral Home Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at Lighthouse Community Church Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mary C. Ours
Mary Catherine Ours, 84, of Cabins, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Md.
Friends will be received at Schaeffer Funeral Home Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Friday at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery at Petersburg. From 17 Dec 2002.

Maxine D. Ours
Maxine Dora Turner Ours, 58, of Cabins, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins, after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin for the past three months.
She was born July 24, 1943, in Seneca Rocks. She was the daughter of Annie Nelson Turner of Cabins and the late Marvin Turner.
Maxine graduated from Circleville High School in 1961 and she worked at the Windsor Knit Sewing Factory in Petersburg for 17 years. She was affiliated with the Corner United Methodist Church, Cabins Assembly of God and the North Fork Mennonite Church.
Surviving are her mother, Annie Nelson Turner of Cabins; her husband of 39 years, John J. Ours of Cabins; one son, Brian Ours and wife, Karen, of Ridgeway, Va.; three daughters, Julie Swick and husband, Ernie, of Cabins, Sandra Paz and husband, Felix, of Harrisonburg, Va., and Fallon Ours of Cabins; two sisters, Marlene Ours of Seneca Rocks and Delores Keplinger of Maysville; one brother, Roland Turner of Seneca Rocks; several nieces and nephews, eight brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law.

Warren M. Overfield
Warren Miller Overfield, 79, a resident of Route 1, Volga, passed away Thursday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care.
He was born May 2, 1923, in Barbour County, a son of the late Guy and Tessie Wilmoth Overfield.
He was united in marriage on Dec. 2, 1950, to the former Naomi Lavoue Payne, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Vickie Kay and husband, Leonard Johnson, Route 1, Volga; two sisters, Mabel Mouser, Williamsburg, Va., and Lucille Jaber, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and one brother, Gerald Overfield, Philippi.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Overfield.
He was a retired coal miner having been employed by King Knob Coal Co. He was a member of the United Mine Workers, District 31, Local 1492. He was a United Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Speaker "Buck" True officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. From 12 Oct 2002.

Rita D. Owens
Rita Doris Owens, 69, a resident of Holly Meadows community, Parsons, departed this life Saturday afternoon, Sept. 7, 2002, at her home. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to congestive heart failure.
She was born Sept. 17, 1932, at Hooksett, N.H., a daughter of the late Oscar Duhaime and Flora Prince Duhaime.
On Dec. 18, 1954, at Manchester, N.H., she was married to Allen "Roy" Owens, who survives. They had celebrated 47 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, Jeffrey R. Owens and wife, Phyllis, Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Amy L. Owens, Parsons; one brother, Patten and wife, Pauline, Hooksett, N.H.; three grandchildren, Tabatha L. Teets and Christopher A. Arbaugh, both of Parsons, and Kristina Owens, Dallas, Texas; two nephews, Scott Patten and Brian Patten, Hooksett, N.H.; and several cousins.
She was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary’s High School at Nashua, N.H., and was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary’s College at Hooksett, N.H., with a major in mathematics and a degree in education. She was an elementary school teacher at the Smith Road School in Manchester, N.H., for 30 years. She attended Our Lady of Mercy Church in Parsons.
Friends will be received at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. On Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home parlor, a prayer service will be recited by the Rev. Father Lino Ebejer. On Wednesday, Mrs. Owens will be moved to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The Rev. Father Lino Ebejer will preside and interment will follow at Macedonia Cemetery at St. George. From 9 Sep 2002.
