James E. Bailey
James E. Bailey, 86, of 1524 S. Davis Avenue, Elkins, departed life early on the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Nella’s Nursing Home at Crystal Springs. He had been in declining health.

James E. Bailey
James Eugene Bailey, 86, a resident of 1524 S. Davis Ave., Elkins, and since October, a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home at Crystal Springs, departed this life early Tuesday morning, Dec. 24, 2002, at the nursing home. He had been in declining health since June.
He was born Saturday, April 1, 1916, at Weston, a son of the late James Harvey Bailey and Georgie Bland Summerfield Bailey.
On May 20, 1939, at Monterey, Va., he was married to the former Evangeline Collett, who preceded him in death on May 2, 2001. They had celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth B. "Liz" White; one brother, Robert Blaine Bailey, Elkins and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clay and Junior Bailey; and one infant sister, Evelyn Bailey.
He attended the schools of Weston. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1945 at Berma and India. He was a manager of the Columbia Gas Co. at Parsons retiring in 1955. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Parsons.
Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Friday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Donald L. Lockhart will officiate and interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, where the H.W. Daniel’s Post 29, American Legion will present the American flag. Lucille Bailey
Lucille Bailey, 89, of Murrysville, Pa., formerly of Belington and Philippi, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, Pa., following an extended illness. She had recently been a patient of West Haven Nursing Home, Murrysville.
She was born Dec. 26, 1912, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Hoy Arbraham and Addie Callihan Casto.
She was twice married and was preceded in death by her first husband, Devlin Donahue, and by her second husband, Homer Bailey.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Cecelia Ann Ritter, Boise, Idaho, Harold G. Ritter Jr. Murrysville, Pa., William Clarence Ritter and Robert Dale Ritter, both of Apollo, Pa.; two sisters, Emma P. Smith, Philippi, and Eleanor Joe Miller, Buckhannon; two brothers, Kenneth G. Casto and Robert L. Casto, both of Philippi; three great-grandchildren, Katrina Ritter, William G. Ritter Jr. and Nichole Ritter; and one great-great-grandson.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Galen Eugene Donahue; one daughter, Helen Ruth Ritter; and son-in-law, Harold R. Ritter; two sisters, Hazel Ward and Vera Dickenson Overfield; and four brothers, Hersel K. Casto, William D. Casto, Charles Jr. Casto and Raymond Casto.
Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker, a former restaurant employee and along with Mr. Bailey had been associated with Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi and the Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington. She was a member of the Cross Roads United Methodist Church.
Friends may call at the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Steven E. Bailey, 18, a resident of Route 1, Beverly, passed away Tuesday afternoon as the result of an apparent drowning in Barbour County.

Steven E. Bailey
Steven Edward Bailey, 18, a resident of Route 1, Beverly, departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, as a result of a drowning accident in Barbour County.
He was born Dec. 20, 1983, in Elkins, a son of R.J. "Buzzy" Bailey and Linda Gilkeson Bailey of Beverly.
Also surviving are his maternal grandmother, Carla Adkins and husband, George Adkins, of Rainelle; three brothers, Marcus Bailey and wife, Michele, Orlando, Fla., Jason Bailey, Elkins, and Bradley Bailey, at home; one sister, Tonya Shreve, Columbus, Ohio; two nieces, Morgan Vance and Kyatt Bailey; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Also preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather, Lawrence Gilkeson; and paternal grandparents, John and Opal Bailey.
He was a recent graduate of George Washington High School in Charleston, and was enrolled at West Virginia University for the fall semester. Following his graduation from high school, he entered the Marine Corps Reserves Boot Camp at Parris Islands, S.C. Due to physical problems, he was forced to leave camp early and planned to return next year.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Randall Brake officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that contributions be made to the Steve E. Bailey Memorial Fund, Route 1, Box 139B-2, Beverly, W.Va. 26253. These contributions will be forwarded by the Bailey family to local Search and Rescue Units which aided in the search for Steven. Millie M. Bailor
Millie M. Bailor, 82, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 30, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 2, 1920, at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Jack and Margaret Pritt Martin.
On Aug. 28, 1945, in Oakland, Md., she was married to William D. Bailor, who preceded her in death on April 6, 1992.
She is survived by one son, Calvin J. Bailor and wife, Marlyn, of Mill Creek; one daughter, Mrs. LeRoy T. (Margaret) McCollam of Mill Creek; four brothers, John, Delmar, Nip and Joe Martin, all of Mill Creek; three sisters, Caroline Gear, Sue Poling and Alphie Currence, all of Mill Creek; six grandchildren, Nicole Woods, Belinda Wiseman, Lisa Bailor, Kimberly Arbogast, Crystal Bailor and LeRoy McCollam Jr.; two stepgrandchildren, Diane Currence and Calvin Posey; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one brother, Howard Martin; one sister, Orphie Magee and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Bailor was a homemaker.

Geraldine B. Baisi
Geraldine Brafford Davis Baisi, 74, of Charlton Heights, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, in Montgomery General Hospital.
She was born April 12, 1927, in Fairmont, the daughter of the late William Davis, who was a retired West Virginia state trooper, and Ethel Brafford Davis, who was a retired registered nurse. After the death of her mother, she was raised by her paternal grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Archibal Davis and her aunt, Clara Davis, who resides at Harding.
She married Neal D. Baisi, coach and administrator and teacher at West Virginia University Tech, in May of 1950, and later gave birth to twin boys, Patrick Albert and Michael William, in June of 1951, and a daughter, Deborah Lou, in 1953.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Patrick Albert Baisi of Glen Ferris and Michael William Baisi of Beckley; daughter, Deborah Baisi Lively of Bradley; grandchildren, Melissa Ann Baisi, Chad Edward Honaker, Rick Lee Elkins, Geri Lynn Baisi, Patricia Rose Baisi, Cassie Rea Lively and Patrick Braden Baisi; and great-grandson, Rick Lee Elkins Jr.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School and was a retired registered nurse, having graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Clarksburg.
She was a Methodist, a member of the Montgomery Womens Club, the Glenn Falls Garden Club and the West Virginia University Institute of Technology’s Water Aerobics Class. She was a very proud homemaker and was active in many activities at WVUIT and was a 52-year resident of Charlton Heights.
Service will be at 11 a.m. today in Montgomery Presbyterian Church in Montgomery with Dr. Denise Hall officiating. Entombment will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park in London. There will be no visitation. O’Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers include former West Virginia Tech basketball players coached by Neal Baisi including Dave West, Dick Hart, Dave Long, Bill Turner, Bobby Watson, Pete Kelly, Mike Bell and Lon Sizemore. From 13 Apr 2002.

Blanche V. Baker
Blanche Verda Reed Baker, 83, of Route 1, Elkins, died at 4:46 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to heart failure.
Mrs. Baker was born May 17, 1918, in Onego, a daughter of the late Harrison Reed and Floda Mallow Reed.
On Jan. 1, 1955, she married Oscar Baker, who preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1988.
Surviving are four brothers, Charles Reed, Beverly, Clyde Reed and wife, Betty, Elkins, Donald Reed, Akron, Ohio, and Robert Reed and wife, Rachael, Whitmer; three sisters, Nora Sites and husband, Jearl, Harman, Ilda Wolford and husband, Arthur, Whitmer, and Freda Ratliff and husband, Carney, Davis; 19 nieces and 20 nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise Marcella; and four sisters, Eva White, Sylvia Teter, Olive Bennett and Mary Dolly.
Mrs. Baker attended the schools of Randolph County. She was a homemaker and a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Elkins.

Byrd W. Ball
Byrd Westfall Ball, 86, a resident of Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care, Philippi for the past year and a former resident of Route 3, Mansfield Addition, Philippi, passed away at 11:10 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care.
She was born July 2, 1915, at Falls Mills, Braxton County, a daughter of the late John S. and Katie L. Steele Westfall.
She was united in marriage on Nov. 12, 1935, to Shirley O. Ball, who preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1979.
Surviving are one son and a daughter-in-law, Ronald L. and Ellen M. Ball, Mansfield Addition, Philippi; a very special stepdaughter, Juanita Wilson, Tampa, Fla.; one stepson, William James Clark, Florida; two sisters, Marbia Blair and husband, Forest, Largo, Fla., and Iva Lee Maciejewski, Monongah; two half sisters, Anna Louise McGee and husband, F.R. "Mac," Fairborn, Ohio, and Dorothy Harris, Largo, Fla.; one half brother, Leo Westfall, Fairborn, Ohio; two grandsons, Brian L. Ball, Philippi, and Alan W. Ball, Atlanta, Ga.; six stepgrandchildren, Sandra Cochran, Jane Lew, Robert Singleton, Tennessee, Jacqualine Suarez, Florida, Deborah Clarke, Florida, Stephen Shingleton, Clarksburg, and Lynda Rex, Florida; several stepgreat and stepgreat-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Howard Burton Ball, in infancy; four brothers, Earl, Everett, Raymond and Clarence Westfall; two sisters, Ethel Henderson and India Westfall in infancy; two half brothers, Leon and Richard Westfall; her stepmother, Minnie Swick Westfall; and three stepgrandchildren, Theodore Shingleton, Jean Smith and Rebecca Miller.
Mrs. Ball was a resident of Stonewood for 68 years prior to moving to Philippi in 1979. She attended Roosevelt-Wilson High School.
She retired from Maidenform of Clarksburg with 28 years service. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, working in all phases of ceramics and helping with craft shows.
She was a member of Stonewall United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Stonewall Cemetery at Stonewood.

Montana Lee Ball
Montana Lee Ball, 78, of Route 4, Buckhannon, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
She was born Dec. 25, 1923, in Gilmer County, the daughter of the late Archibald Wright and Fanny Carder Wright.
On July 13, 1942, she married Ronald M. Ball, who preceded her in death on March 25, 1997.
Surviving are three daughters, Charlotte Bennett and husband, Gene, Naomi Fortney and husband, Bob, and Ilene Marsh and husband, William, all of Buckhannon; four sons, Danny Ball, Harold Ball, Jacob Ball and wife, Thelma, and Jimmy Ball and wife, Sandra, all of Buckhannon; one brother, Aubrey Wright, Nestorville; two sisters, Geraldine Oldaker, Buckhannon, and Pauline Williams, Philippi; four half brothers, Okey Wright, Robert Wright, Donnie Wright and David Wright, all of Buckhannon; two half sisters, Bonnie Holmes, Washington state, and Icie Harrison, Virginia; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Josephine Fortney, two great-granddaughters, Kayla Ball and Cara Ball; and her stepmother, Beulah Wright.
Mrs. Ball was a cook and caregiver and a member of Kesling United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher.

Freda A. Balli
Freda A. Balli, 87, formerly of Pickens and of Volga, where she made her home with a sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Louie Jones, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon.
Ms. Balli was born May 1, 1914, in Pickens, a daughter of the late John and Hulda Heller Balli.
Surviving are two sisters, Martha Jones and Anna Balli, both of Volga; two nieces, a nephew, three great-nieces, two great-great-nieces and two great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Balli; five sisters, Alma Fortune, Olga Harris, Rosa Marts, Gertrude Balli and Helena Balli; and a great-niece.
Ms. Balli was a retired farmer. She made Swiss cheese and butter from her family farm in Webster County. She was a Protestant by faith.
Friends were received at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Home Sunday.
Funeral services were held in the funeral home chapel today at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lejune Lewis officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Pickens.

Lulu B. Barlow
Lulu Belle "Lulu" Brown Barlow, 66, of Oxnard, Calif., departed this life at the home of her daughter in San Diego, Calif.
She was born in Stout’s Mill, Gilmer County, on Feb. 23, 1936, a daughter of the late Charles Race Brown and Hazel O. Smith Brown.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Rae "Cissi" Dall and husband, Hans, of San Diego, Calif.; a son, Bradley J. Barlow and wife, Janice, of Newbury Park, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Jessica and Ryan Dall and Kelly, Katie and Sarah Barlow, all of California.
She is also survived by one brother, Harley Brown of Buckhannon; two sisters, Lillie Mae Moore of Bukchannon, and Patricia J. "Patsy" Brown of Sacramento, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
She graduated from B.W. High School with the class of 1953 and was a world traveler, living in London, England, for 11 years of her life.
At her request, her body will be cremated and her ashes will be interned in Heavner Cemetery with a graveside memorial to be at a later date to be announced. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 14 Oct. 2002.

Lula Belle Brown "Lulu" Barlow, 66, of San Diego, Calif., died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at the home of her daughter in San Diego, Calif.

Samuel P. Barlow
Samuel P. Barlow, 74, of Buckeye, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in the Memorial Division of Charleston Area Medical Center after a short illness.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways, was a member and elder of the Marlinton Presbyterian Church, served on various committees of the West Virginia Presbytery, was a member of the Marlinton Masonic Lodge 127, American Legion Post 50, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4595 and Pocahontas County Historical Society.
He was born at Dunmore, Aug. 8, 1928, a son of the late Samuel H. and Mary Margaret Price Barlow.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Mary Barnisky Barlow; a brother, Asa Calvin Barlow; sisters, Joan Barlow, Nancy Ligon Barlow and Dr. Mary Margaret Barlow, preceded him in death.
A daughter, Martha Ann Barlow of Enola, Pa.; sons, John C. Barlow of Broadway, Va., and Samuel Price Barlow II of Harrisonburg, Va., survive him.
The Rev. Randy Benson will hold funeral services Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Marlinton Presbyterian Church. Burial with Masonic and military rites will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Marlinton. Matthew Bryant Barr, 16, a resident of the Cherry Fork Road, Montrose, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 21, 2002, as a result of injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident on Route 219 near Montrose.
He was born Sept. 3, 1985, at Elkins, a son of Libby and Len Chidester of Montrose, and Nevil and Cindy Barr of Mississippi.
Also surviving are one brother, Michael Barr, Mississippi; his stepsister, Millie Barr, Mississippi; his maternal grandmother, Mary Nucilli, Elkins; his maternal great-grandmother, Leona Stevenski of Grafton; his paternal grandmother, Betty Barr, Mississippi; his steppaternal grandmother, Mary Chidester, Mill Creek; six uncles, Mike and Carl Nucilli, both of Elkins, Jim Nucilli, Martinsburg, Rob Nucilli, Fairmont, David Barr, Alabama, and Ronald Barr, Mississippi; his special great-uncle, Joe Nucilli, Elkins; and his special friend, Chad Chidester, Elkins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Michael Dominic Nucilli; his paternal grandfather, Nevil Barr; and his steppaternal grandfather, Virgil Chidester Sr.
He was a sophomore at Elkins High School and was currently employed at Hardee’s Restaurant of Elkins. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, riding fourwheelers and motorcycling, playing Nintendo, watching movies and caring for his dogs, Bella, Goldie, Grizzly and Daisy.
Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The casket will remain closed. On Monday morning, he will be moved to Saint Brendan Catholic Church, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The Rev. William Barrager
William Barrager, 64, a resident of Dailey, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Sept. 19, 1938, in Pontiac, Mich.
He is survived by a long time and loving companion, Elizabeth Allen Wolfskill; his son, Bill, and wife, Lysette, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; and daughter, Lori Sage of Carson, Calif.
Mr. Barrager was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a retired carpenter working at various jobs throughout the United States. He was an avid stamp and baseball card collector.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Elkins Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Jonas Johnson Jr. will officiate. Members of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion will present the American flag and interment will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to a Hospice organization in memory of Mr. Barrager. Leona V. Bartlett
Leona Violet Bartlett, 84, a resident of 201 Robin Hood Lane, Elkins, and a patient in Talbott Personal Care Home in Belington, was called home to glory on Thursday morning, July 11, 2002, in the home.
She was born May 27, 1918, at Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada.
On Feb. 17, 1961, in Dallas, Texas, she was married to Clifford F. Bartlett, who survives in Elkins.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three sisters.

Evangelist Joseph Ross Bass, 71, of 303 Byrd St., died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
The funeral was conducted at White Oak Freewill Baptist Church Dec. 18 by the Rev. Bobby Carden. Burial was in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Lewis-Bowen Funeral Home of Bladenboro, N.C.
Mr. Bass is survived by his wife, Miriam Fancher Bass, of the home; four daughters, Barbara Bryan and Patricia McKnight, both of Bladenboro, N.C., Freda McLean of Florida, and Sue Coward of Welcome, N.C.; two sons, Joseph Bass of Darlington, S.C., and Albert D. Bass of Chadbourn, N.C.; one sister, Evelyn Sykes of Clarkton, N.C.; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Lucille C. Bava
Lucille Cathern Bava, 87, formerly of Davis, and more recently of Cleveland, Tenn., passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in a Cleveland hospital, after an extended illness.
She was born Nov. 29, 1915, in Youngstown, Ohio, and raised by her late foster parents, Uncle Robert Rexrode and Aunt Lillian Rexrode.
She is survived by two daughters, Juanita Stone and husband, Fred Stone Sr., and Janet Williams and husband, Wilbert Williams, all of Cleveland, Tenn.; two brothers, James Wyatt of Cleveland, Ohio, and Robert Rexrode of Deland, Fla.; and various nieces and nephews. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Diana Stone of Virginia Beach, Va., Perry Stone Jr., Phillip Stone, Melanie Stone and Cliff Williams, all of Cleveland, Tenn., Steve Campbell of Shinnston, and Cathy Allen of Reedsville; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by by her husband, the Rev. John Bava; and four sisters, Jane Presutti, Anna Rupert, Cathern Rexrode Cooper and Virginia Rexrode Jenkins.
Mrs. Bava was a member of the Church of God in Bayard, but attended the North Cleveland, Tenn., Church of God. She volunteered her services at her grandson’s ministry center, the Voice of Evangelism in Cleveland, Tenn., up until she became too ill to assist.
Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Norma Elene Bohon Bava, 71, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life Friday evening, July 26, 2002, at her home. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.
She was born Aug. 18, 1930, at St. George, a daughter of the late George B. Bohon and Nellie Gay Gower Bohon.
On Nov. 7, 1948, at Red House, Md., she was married to Joseph Harry Bava Sr., who preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1989.
Surviving are four sons, John D. Bava and wife, Luanna, James B. Bava and wife, Jennie, Pete M. Bava and wife, Kay and David A. Bava, all of Hendricks; three daughters, Dianna L. Phillips and husband, Randall, Hendricks, Connie S. Rosier and husband, Denver, Elkins, and Louanna B. Carr and husband, Patrick, Parsons; one stepson, Joseph H. Bava Jr. and wife, Helen, St. George; two stepdaughters, Dorothy Oberding, Wisconsin, and Joann Jarosiewicz, Elkins; five sisters, Eva Lee Carter and husband, Don, Wanda Booth and husband, Edwin, Louetta Mason and Ruth Carr and husband, Roger, all of Parsons, and Linda Bates and husband, Larry, Hambleton; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and nine stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen, Arley and Clarence Bohon; three sisters, Idella Bohon, Ester Bohon and Peggy Wright; and one special grandson, Darrin L. Moss.
She attended the schools of Tucker County. She worked for the former Penn Avenue Dairy. She was a member of the S.M.P.J. Lodge. She was a homemaker and a member of the Parsons Church of God.
The family will receive friends at the Parsons Church of God from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. On Tuesday morning, at 11 a.m. final rites will be conducted. Pastor Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow at the McNeeley Cemetery at Hendricks. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. From 29 July 2002.

Delbert R. Baxa
Delbert R. Baxa, 92, of Route 1, French Creek, the Brooks Hill Community, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born Feb. 26, 1910, in Eden, a son of the late Franklin and Mamie Bennett Baxa.
He married Pearl V. Gregory Baxa, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are one brother, Arie Baxa, Buckhannon; one sister, Icie Baxa Rice, Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Edward, Howard, Sherman, Roy and Johnny Baxa; and two sisters, Clara Curkendall and Vergie Watkins.
He had been employed at Huttonsville Correctional Center in Huttonsville, and the late Alexander Band Mill Co. of Alexander. He was a retired farmer. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Brooks Hill United Methodist Church.

Paul Bazzle, 74, a resident of Wooster, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 8, 2002, at the Wooster Community Hospital.
He was born Dec. 29, 1927, at Glady, a son of the late Marcus and Delphia Bibey Bazzle.
On Aug. 26, 1956, he was married to the former Retha Schoonover, who survives in Wooster, Ohio.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Cecil (Ruby) Karlen, Smithville, Ohio, and Mrs. Ernest (Hazel) Gear of Brecksville, Ohio.
Also preceded him in death were two brothers, Earl and Roy; and one sister, Mona Rutt.
Mr. Bazzle was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Rubbermaid for 17 years prior to his retirement and later worked for Wal-Mart for the last four years. He was a member of Canaan Free Will Baptist Church.

Roy Bazzle, 74, of Creston, Ohio, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, in Wooster Community Hospital in Wooster, Ohio.
Mr. Bazzle was born Dec. 29, 1927, in Elkins, a son of the late Marcus Bazzle and Delphia Boggs Bazzle.
In July 1985, he married Lise M. Brunet, who survives in Creston, Ohio.
Also surviving are two sons, Roy Gentry, California, and Steve Chaumont, Seville, Ohio; five daughters, Stephanie Early and Blinda Bravo, both of California, Connie Bazzle, Wooster, Ohio, Mrs. Gary (Ann) Hill, Seville, Ohio, and Mrs. Kenneth (Linda) Engeland, Renton, Wash.; a twin brother, Paul Bazzle, Wooster, Ohio; two sisters, Ruby Karlen, Smithville, Ohio, and Hazel Gear, Brecksville, Ohio; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Virginia Alice Beattie, 88, a resident of 111 Maple Ave. in Philippi, and a resident of Route 3 in Philippi, departed this life at 9:22 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at the home of her daughter, Barbara Brown, with whom she made her home for the past four years. She had been in failing health for quite sometime.
She was born Sept. 4, 1913, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late James Elmer and Ida Mae Boylen Boyles.
She was formerly married to Robert Beattie Jr., who preceded her in death in February 1967.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara and husband, Eddie Brown, Philippi, and Sara M. Coontz, Belington; six grandchildren, Lonny Brown and wife, Lisa, Ronny Brown, Mendy Moats and husband, Stephan, Tim Coontz and wife, Cindy, Todd Coontz and wife, Dana, and Jody Coontz; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Earnest Boyles; and one son-in-law, William "Bill" Coontz.
Mrs. Beattie was a graduate of the Philippi High School. She was a former employee of Broaddus Hospital and a former receptionist at the Philippi Inn Motel in Philippi.
She was a member of the Mary’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Philippi and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Philippi.
Graveside services will be conducted from Mary’s Chapel Church Cemetery in Philippi Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Interment will follow. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements. Helen Beaver
Helen Beaver, 81, a resident of Chenoweth Creek, and a patient in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center for the past seven years, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 27, 2002, in the center.
She was born Feb. 9, 1921, at Julian, a daughter of the late Tom and Myrtle Sisson Turner.
She was married to William E. Beaver, who survives at Chenoweth Creek.
Also surviving are two sons, Daniel C. Beaver of East Berlin, Pa., and William E. Beaver Jr. of Scott Depot; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Larry Dale Beaver; one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Beaver was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins.

Miss Been was born March 19, 1951, at Buckhannon, a daughter of Reba M. Eubank Been, who survives in Buckhannon, and the late Howard Been.
Miss Been was a member of Pickens Baptist Church and attended Faith Tabernacle Church.

Robert V. Beer, 66, a resident of 17 Halifax St., Buckhannon, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at his home.
He was born June 15, 1935, in Buckhannon, the son of the late Forest and Amy Pearl Craven Beer.
On Aug. 15, 1958, he was married to Nancy Louise Dean Beer, who preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 1999.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Randall (Renee) Bailey, French Creek, Mrs. Sam (Beth) Vaught, Buckhannon, and Mrs. Randall (Karis) Courtney, Frenchton; two sons, Pete Beer and wife, Jenny, Buckhannon, and Robert L. Beer and wife, Jeannie, Martinsburg; three sisters, Judy Butcher, Evelyn Riffle and Avis Reed, all of Buckhannon; four granddaughters, Corri Fox and husband, Richard, Bellevue, Neb., Christina Beer and Jordan Beer, both of Martinsburg, Erin Beer, Buckhannon; five grandsons, B.J. Bailey and wife, Kelly, Zachary Vaught and Ethan Beer, all of Buckhannon, Christopher Carlyle and Seth Courtney, both of Frenchton; one great-grandson, Jared Bailey, Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyndon Beer and Zane Beer.
Mr. Beer retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1975 with 20 years of service and was a water meter reader for the city of Buckhannon.

Richard Lee "Dick" Belt, 74, a resident of Route 1, Beverly, the Files Creek Road, passed away at 9:05 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Oct. 31, 1927, at Fairmont, a son of the late Oliver and Estella Arnold Belt.
He is survived by one son, Jack Belt and wife, Cathy, Fairmont. A grandson, Jack and great-grandchildren, Timothy and Sharon, all of Maryland. He leaves a very devoted fiance of 14 years, Charlene Dolly and family, Robin, Tammy, Meghan and Allison Dolly; two brothers, Oliver J. Belt, Fairmont, and Jim Belt of Morgantown; three sisters, Margaret Evans, Weirton, Ethel Brennan, Shinnston, and Barbara Mundell of Fairmont; several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death was one brother, Charles.
Mr. Belt was a veteran of the U.S Navy serving during World War II. He was employed by the Maryland National Park and Planning Commission serving as a member of the Park Police in Prince George County Maryland for 25 years. He attained the rank of major prior to his retirement. He was active in the Rotary Club of Elkins and Ducks Unlimited and attended the Woodford Memorial Methodist Church.

Novil Edward Bender, 80, a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 8, 1922, at Mabie, a son of the late Jesse Edward and Lillie Gay Lambert Bender.
He was married to Althea Posey, who preceded him in death in September of 2000.
He is survived by one daughter, Karen Darlene Bender Blosser; twin brothers, Herbert and Hobert Bender, both of Belington; and one grandson. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sterl, Frederick and Bruce Arden Bender; and five sisters, Gladys, Vada and Hazel Bender, Virgie Elmore and Pearl Jones.
Mr. Bender was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was a retired coal miner and was a Protestant by faith.

Robert Lee "Bob" Bender Sr., 69, a former resident of Randolph County and a resident of Akron, Ohio, for the past 35 years, passed away Monday, June 3, 2002, at 3:10 p.m. in the City Hospital in Akron, Ohio. He had been in his usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.
He was born Feb. 21, 1933, at Valley Bend, a son of the late Richard Bender and Flora White Bender Strawder.
He was married to the former Frances Shoulders, his wife of 42 years, who preceded him in death on June 16, 2000.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Cecil Strawder; and two brothers, Kenneth and Jim Bender.
He is survived by his children, Kathy M. (Jim) Shreve of Elkins, Robert L. (Rose) Bender Jr., Randall W. (Liz) Bender, Stephen H. Bender, Beverly I. (Jim) Whitt, Larry F. Bender, Desirea M. (Matt) Ludwig and Calista M. Bender, all of Akron, Ohio; four brothers, Paul, Roger, Eugene and Barry Bender; three sisters, Kathleen Miller, Annamae Shoulders and Pauline Hagerty; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bender was an iron worker at the Summit Steel Co. in Akron, Ohio, until becoming disabled. His hobbies included camping, fishing and bingo.
He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict.

Runner Funeral Home on Saturday after 6 p.m. On Sunday, Mr. Bender will be moved to Laurel Fork Church at Adrian in Upshur County for visitation from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m., the funeral hour. Dorsey G. Bennett
Dorsey Glenn Bennett, 84, of 10 Nona St., Apt. 205, Buckhannon, died at 3:50 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2002, at his home in Buckhannon.
Mr. Bennett was born March 16, 1917, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Silas Opha Bennett and Nancy May Reed Bennett.
He was twice married. First, he married Beatrice Irene Welch Bennett, who preceded him in death. Second, on June 26, 1964, he married Gloria Justine Shreve Bennett, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Phyllis Jean Hollen, Buckhannon, Sandra Elaine Jarvis, Tennessee, and Ladora Lynne Myers, Timberville, Va.; four sons, Ronald Lee Bennett, Darrell Ray Bennett and Allen Wayne Bennett, all of Buckhannon, and Paul Eugene Bennett, Palm Springs, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Karen Ann Sampson, Staunton, Va., and Brenda Joyce Pennington, Thomas; two stepsons, Charles D. Quick and Arden E. Quick, both of Buckhannon; two brothers, Orie C. Bennett and Mason A. Bennett, both of Clarksburg; a brother-in-law, Frank Shreve; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy Mae Bennett; and one sister, Mavis Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was a plumber and electrician. He was owner operator of Bennetts Recording & Duplicating Center in Broadway, Va. He attended Buckhannon Church of Nazarene.

Edna Doreen Bennett, 67, of Route 1, Moatsville, died Thursday morning, July 25, 2002, at the home of a son, at Brooks Lane, Lumberport, following an extended illness.
She was born April 19, 1935, at Union community, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Corbett Vain Daugherty and the late Mildred Eva Foster Daugherty Thompson.
Her husband, William Lee Bennett, preceded her in death on April 12, 1973.

Mrs. Bennett provided residential care for the elderly and the terminally ill. She was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Philip Barbour Post 3560, VFW. She was a Christian.
The family will receive friends at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today, noon until 9 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, Sunday, when services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Robert "Buck" True officiating. Everett J. "Joe" Bennett, 72, of Biloxi, Miss., died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in Biloxi, Miss.
Mr. Bennett was born Nov. 28, 1929, in Beverly.
He was employed in the shipbuilding industry for 40 years. He resided on the Gulf South since 1964 and a resident of the Mississippi Coast since 1973. He retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding in 1985. He was a six-year veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War and was discharged with the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. He was a member of the American Legion Post 160 in Pascagoula, Miss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman Bennett and Ruth Lothery Bennett; and a brother, Sherman Earl Bennett.
Surviving are his wife, Joan D. Bennett of Biloxi; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Tarpein of Palm Bay, Fla., and Susan Bennett of Waukegan, Ill.; one son, Everett J. "Joe" Bennett Jr. of Biloxi; three sisters, Marietta Shiflet of Elkins, Thelma Daniels of Biloxi, Miss., and Joan McClannan of Crooksville, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Glenn Rothwell Bennett, 72, of Circleville, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, in Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.
He was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Circleville, a son of Mabel Warner Sponaugle, who survived in Pendleton Nursing Home, and the late Jimmy Jay Bennett.
On Oct. 9, 1954, he married Barbara Sutton Bennett, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Leah M. Frank, Harrisonburg, Va., and Lori R. Butcher, Riverton; one son, Richard G. Bennett, Petersburg; one sister, Ruth B. Simmons, Franklin; one brother, Merl "Cub" Bennett, Riverton; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David Lee Bennett on July 19, 1980, and William Coleman Bennett on July 25, 1996.
He was a retired ironworker and farmer. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was a charter member of North Fork Rescue Squad, the VFW 6862, Masonic Lodge Scottish Rite Shriner. He attended North Fork Church of the Brethren.

Harry G. Bennett, 76, a resident of Route 2, Elkins, the Highland Park Community, passed away Thursday evening, July 11, 2002.
He was born Jan. 31, 1926, at Buckhannon, a son of the late Ulysses Grant and Annie Cecil Ours Bennett.
On March 22, 1958, in Oakland, Md., he was married to Lorraina Jewell Bennett, who preceded him in death on Sept. 9, 1995.
He is survived by four sons, Ernest Bennett, Los Alamos, N.M., Harry Bennett Jr. and Ronald Bennett, both of Elkins, and Donald Bennett of Elk City, Okla.; one daughter, Diane Bennett Channell of Midland, Texas; five brothers, Charles "Joe" Bennett, Olympia, Wash., Carroll "Bill" Bennett and David Bennett, both of Elkins, Jerry Bennett, Winesburg, Ohio, and Grant Bennett Jr. of Barberton, Ohio; four sisters, May White, Ruth McCoy and Jean Weese, all of Elkins, and Marie Miles of Grayson, Ky.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Harold, Paul and Jessie Bennett; one sister, Irene Haddix; one son-in-law, Samuel Channell; and a grandson, Michael Channell.
Mr. Bennett attended the schools of Upshur County and served in Company C 285th Engineers Combat Battalion of the U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He was employed as a carmen and welder for the Western Maryland Railroad and the Chessie System Railroad, prior to his retirement. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion and former attended the Church of God.

Elder J. Virgil Bennett
Elder James Virgil Bennett, 68, a resident of Beverly, passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at 3:52 p.m. at Davis Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002. Death was attributed to cancer.
Born July 15, 1934, at Beverly, he was the son of the late Alfred "Pete" and Geneva Arbogast Bennett.
He is survived by his beloved wife, whom he married on Dec. 1, 1959, the former Lorena Wratchford, who survives in Beverly.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Danny (Natalie) Yokum of Coalton; two sons, Mark Joseph Bennett and wife, Jackie, of Beverly, and Shane Everett Bennett and wife, Melanie, of Beverly; and two brothers, Jackie David Bennett and wife, Janet, Port Deposit, Md., and Fred Bennett and wife, Susie, of Akron, Ohio.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Alicia Carpenter, Angel Bennett, Mark Bennett, Kevin Bennett, Ryan Yokum, Krystee Yokum, Tracie Yokum, Rylee Bennett, Avery Bennett and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was one brother, Delbert Ray Bennett.
Virgil began service in the U.S. Army in February 1957 and served for two years as a light weapons infantry man in Germany with the Sixth Infantry Regiment. During his military career he was awarded a Good Conduct medal and an Occupation of Berlin medal. After his regular Army duties, he continued service in the West Virginia National Guard where he obtained the rank of SP 4. He was discharged in February 1963.
In December 1956, Virgil met who would later become his beloved wife of 42 years and they were married on Dec. 1, 1959, in Oakland, Md. Several years later, they became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and on June 28, 1968, they journeyed to Salt Lake City, Utah, temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity to each other and to their children, Mark and Natalie. Shane, their youngest son, was born under the covenants they made there in the house of the Lord.
Virgil was employed for 32 years at Labcraft in Beverly until the company dissolved. He then worked at the Elkins Wal-Mart where he continued to win the hearts of all those he came in contact with. He retired from Wal-Mart after seven years of service. He then had more time to do the things he loved with Lorena, which included visiting friends, sitting on his porch swing with the grandchildren and doing anything asked of him.
He and Lorena also enjoyed working in their yard together, which was always kept immaculate. It was noticed by the community and frequently earned them awards which included "Yard of the Month" and the annual Christmas Lighting Contest.
As a dedicated member of his church, he served as a counselor in the Branch Presidency and Bishopric for 20 years. He and his wife then served a mission together teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. In November 2001, he was again called into the Bishopric where he served until his death.
There are many Christians in this world, but Virgil was a true disciple, he never had a bad word to say about anybody, and was always in the service of others. No man was more devoted to his wife, family and values than he was.
Friends will be received at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Route 219 south of Elkins on the Beverly Five-lane, on Thursday from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Bishop Lynn Muhlestein will officiate. Interment and dedication will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The Tygart Valley Post 3647 and the H.W. Keith Bennett
On April 25, 2002, the Lord called Keith Bennett to be with him. Mr. Bennett was 71 years of age and a resident of Norton.
He was born Jan. 21, 1931, at Oceola, a son of the late John and Nellie Davis Bennett. He was married to Letha Martin Bennett who survives at Norton.
Also surviving are three step-daughters, Tammy Leggett, Hodgesville, and Susan Shiflett and Jeanie Weese, both of Elkins; three brothers, Ray Bennett, Dailey, Denver Bennett, Fredericksburg, Va., and Ralph Bennett, Elkins; three sisters, Rosalee Gibson, Elkins, Josie Wamsley, Martinsburg, and Nellie Mae McCallister, Bayard; seven step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death was one brother, Richard.
Mr. Bennett was employed as the manager of the Sunoco Station at Crystal Springs for many years and was a member of the Bayard Church of God.

Madolyn Bennett, 80, of Frenchton, and for the last week a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home of Crystal Springs, died at 6:35 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2002, where she had been in declining health.
She was born July 17, 1921, in Roane County, a daughter of the late Orville Mack Tanner and Flora Harriet Matheny Tanner.
On May 25, 1946, she married Dennis Oren Bennett, who survives and is a resident at Nella’s Nursing Home.
Also surviving are her only child, a daughter, Flora B. Kelley and husband, Garland of Helvetia; two grandchildren, Paul Kelley of Elkins, and Rebecca Parsons and husband, Jonn of Buckhannon; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Jayd Parsons of Buckhannon; one brother, Orlis Tanner of Mineral Wells; two nephews, John Tanner and Jack Tanner; and four nieces, Loretta Corathers, Pat Long, Ellen Tanner and Kathy DeViller.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Ira Tanner; and one sister, Gwendolyn Kidder.
Mrs. Bennett was a member of the Frenchton United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

She was twice married. First, she married Rufus Bowles, who preceded her in death. Second, she married Steve Bennett, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bennett was born May 19, 1907, in Hall, a daughter of the late Joseph Benton and Nancy Thomason Gregory.
On May 31, 1924, she married Silas Willard Bennett, who preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1975.

Thomas Dayton Bennett Sr., 47, of Elkins, died Thursday evening, Feb. 21, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown from injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier this month.
He was born Sept. 12, 1954, in Elkins, the son of Mary Jane Bennett, who survives at Dartmoor, and the late Coleman Bennett.
On Sept. 13, 1976, he married to former Brenda Sue Zambelli, who survives in Elkins.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Dayton Bennett Jr. and wife, Michele, Bowden, Joshua Seth Bennett, at home; one daughter, Christal Bennett Pennington and husband, Benny, Beverly; five grandchildren, Kayla, Alexis and Rachel Bennett, and Talladega "Charlie" and Dacie Pennington; three brothers, Rick Bennett, Mill Creek, Albert Bennett, Harrisonburg, Va., and Jody Shreve, Dartmoor; four sisters, Patty Lewis, Beverly, Connie Isenhart, Harrisonburg, Va., Lucy Ford, Fairmont, and Donna Bennett, Dartmoor; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bennett attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed by Bob’s Painting of Beverly.
He was a coach in the Elkins Little League and was a Protestant by faith.

Van Louis Bennett, 76, of 1 Valley Manor Drive, Williamstown, and formerly of Elkins, died at 5:42 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, in Selby General Hospital.
Mr. Bennett was born Oct. 12, 1925, in Philippi, a son of the late Columbus Ira and Lulu Belle McDaniel Bennett.
On March 10, 1949, in Philippi, he married Helen Louise Burner, who survives in Williamstown.
Also surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Diane Blizzard and husband, Allan, Williamstown, and Sondra Kaye Knile and husband, Robert, Marietta, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Betty Harvey and husband, Norbert, Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dennis, Richard, Quinton and Woodrow Bennett; and a sister, Luvada Mobely.
Mr. Bennett worked for Island Creek Coal Co. as a coal miner, retiring on Oct. 10, 1986. He had also been employed as a correctional officer at Huttonsville Medium Security Prison from 1960 until 1968. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served from Dec. 5, 1943, until Jan. 19, 1946.
He was a member of Elkins Church of the Nazarene and attended Faith Bible Church in Williamstown.

On Feb. 17, 1934, she married Jeff Pat Bentley, who preceded her in death on April 24, 1987.

Fredo Bertelli, 77, a former resident of Norton and a resident of Wheeling since 1967, passed away Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at 3:50 a.m. at the Ohio Valley Medical Center, where he was admitted on Dec. 21, 2002. He had been in failing health for two years.
He was born Jan. 16, 1925, in Randolph County, the son of the late Dominick and Mary Boisi Bertelli.
He was united in marriage on Oct. 5, 1950, to the former Mary T. Zirkle, who survives in Wheeling.
He is survived by one son, Roger Bertelli of West Liberty; five sisters, Connie Martelli of Fairmont, Mrs. Joe (Anita) Manolidis of Elkins, Dena Bertelli, a resident of Nella’s, Mrs. Charles (Dora) Stanley of Norton, and Gloria Bertelli of Norton; and four brothers, Tony Bertelli and wife, Nancy, of Norton, David Bertelli and wife, Dottie, of Norton, Frankie Bertelli and wife, Lillian, of Norton, and Joe Bertelli and wife, Mary, of Elkins. Also surviving are one grandson, Michael Bertelli of Bethany, and one granddaughter, Moriah Bertelli of Wheeling.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Nikie Bertelli, and one infant brother, Robert N. Bertelli.
He was a retired coal miner, having last been employed by Valley Camp Coal Co. until retiring. He was an avid fisherman, loved to garden and also made sure he fed all birds. He was a veteran, having served as a seaman first class with the U.S. Navy during World War II, having been discharged on Nov. 16, 1945.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Mr. Bertelli’s name to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Fredo Bertelli. The arrangements are incomplete and will be posted on a later date.  From 24 Dec 2002.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be Saturday at noon at Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Gilman. The Rev. Dennis Arnold of Wheeling will officiate. Interment will follow. The Tygart Valley Post 3647 VFW will make a presentation of the American flag at the gravesite. Carol J. Bias
Carol Jean Bias, 72, of HC 78, Rock Cave, the Salem Ridge community, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at her home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.
Mrs. Bias was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Gaines, a daughter of the late John and Thelma Lanham Ervin.
She married William Bias, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Julia Simons, Buckhannon, and Rhoda Cutright, Rock Cave; a brother, James Ervin, Petroleum; a sister, Alice Snyder, Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren, Samantha Evans, Buckhannon, Shane Powers, Clarksburg, Roxanna Powers and Heather Simons, both of Rock Cave; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Pullen, Rock Cave, and Logan Evans, Buckhannon.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jamie Simons.

Maurice W. Bickel
Maurice William Bickel, 86, of Rock Cave, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Bickel was born Oct. 2, 1915, at Pickens, a son of the late Homer E. and Myrtle D. Long Bickel.
On Jan. 9, 1956, he married Della Virginia Talbott Bickel of Rock Cave.
Surviving are two sons, David William Bickel and wife, Sheryl, of Rock Cave, and Clyde Cleo Bickel and wife, Edith, of Rock Cave; four grandchildren, Sarah M. Bickel, David W. Bickel II, Michael C. Bickel and Christopher B. Bickel, all of Rock Cave.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys Bickel, Algie M. Bickel and Monell Freeman; and one brother, Othie Bickel.
He was a woodsman and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the DAV, Chapter 36 at Carter and a member of the Canaan Church at Canaan.
Friends will be received at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Long officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Ridge Cemetery. From 18 Sep 2002.

Carol J. Biller
Carol Jack Biller, 71, a resident of Kerens, departed this life at 1:41 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at his residence. He had been in declining health for the past 12 years and seriously ill for the past 15 months, and his death was attributed to emphysema.
He was born Oct. 6, 1930, at Montrose, a son of the late Cecil J. Biller and Hattie Canfield Biller.
On June 5, 1954, at Mercy Chapel Church at Montrose, he was married to the former Wilma L. Canfield, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Cecil Douglas Biller and wife, Linda, Kerens, Lloyd Wayne Biller and wife, Patty, Dale City, Va., and Craig Alan Biller and wife, Brenda, Little Elm, Texas; two daughters, Mildred Louise Biller, Belington, and Dolores Jean Crossman and husband, Ellis, Kerens; nine grandchildren, Tina Dawn Dobbins and husband, Staff Sergeant Joseph Dobbins, PFC James Douglas Biller, Melissa Sue Biller, Abraham Wayne Biller, Samantha Louise Biller, Nicholas Ryan Biller, Elizabeth Nichole Crossman, Brittany Hope Crossman and Sarah Denise Crossman; and one great-granddaughter, Gracie Morgan Dobbins.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Jerry Lou Chipukites.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1948. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict serving as an artillery surveyor. He was a self- employed carpenter for many years. He was an avid fisherman, a former member of the Kerens Lodge No. 183, IOOF, and a member of the Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years. He was a member of the former Hart's Chapel Church at Kerens, and a member of Mercy Chapel Church at Montrose.
Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Bryan Headley and Harold Gainer will officiate and interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to Mountain Hospice, 1410 Crim Ave., Belington, W.Va. 26250. From 28 May 2002.

Richard L. Biller
Richard Lee Biller, 66, a resident of Penn Laird, Va., and formerly of Belington, was pronounced deceased upon arrival Sunday morning, March 31, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon, while visiting friends. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born Jan. 15, 1936, at Barbour County, a son of the late Earl R. and Virginia L. Biller.
He was twice married. First, he married the former Fay Wright, who survives. Second, in 1984, he married the former Linda Frey, who survives at their home.
Also surviving are three sons, Rick, Bobbie and Leonard Biller, all of Virginia; one daughter, Theresa Biller of Virginia; one stepson, Brian Cline of Grafton; two stepdaughters, Brandy Requeno and Christina Nix, both of Virginia; one sisters, Alberta McCauley of Belington; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Biller.
Mr. Biller was a graduate of Belington High School. He had been self employed. He was a member of Belington Masonic Lodge in Belington 125 AF & AM and was affiliated with the Jehovah Witnesses.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday until 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted from the funeral home parlor with Mr. Oren Kinneer officiating. At the request of the family his remains will be cremated. From 2 Apr 2002.
