The Tri- State Genealogical & Historical Society is as a non-profit organization, operated entirely by volunteers and dedicated to preserving the history of the Tri-State area of Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. One of our major goals is to help families trace their family history.

Visit our Library

Our library is Located in room 103 of the Wells School Building at 717 Washington Street, Newell, West Virginia 26050 and is open to the public. Our hours of operation are as follows:

Saturday10:00 a.m. to 02:00 p.m.

In the event of inclement weather, we follow Hancock County School closings. Out of town visitors needing genealogical assistance at other times during the week may set up an appointment by calling (304) 387-2467 during our operating hours.

We have several computers that are online, microfilm and microfiche readers and printers and a copier is available for copying material. Our holdings have a strong emphasis on Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia and include numerous volumes of county histories, city directories, obituary files, census records, cemetery records and recently acquired newspapers on microfilm and CDs for your perusal. Copies from our copier are 10 cents each and microfilm or computer printouts are 25 cents each.

Membership

A membership in the Tri-State Genealogical & Historical Society provides you with free use of our library and a subscription to our quarterly newsletter. Any interested person may become a member of the Society upon payment of annual dues and will be entitled to the privilege of making motions, voting and holding office. Annual dues shall be fifteen ($15.00) per person and family (residing at the same address). Membership runs from January through December. Should a member join in November or December, the membership will be carried into the next year. Should a member join prior to November, the membership is only for the calendar year in which dues were paid and the joiner shall be entitled to copies of the current and past newsletters for that year. To become a member please send your request, including name, address and surnames being researched along with a check for $15.00 to the Tri-State Genealogical & Historical Society, P.O. Box 454, Newell, West Virginia 26050.

Correspondence

All correspondence containing a stamped self-addressed envelope will be answered. Research that can be handled briefly will be done for a donation of $10.00. If extensive research is required, you will be notified of what is available and at what cost. Please send your request to the Tri-State Genealogical & Historical Society, P.O.
