Especially seeking information on the families
of Benjamin (Ben) P. Meador(w)s
(m. Minerva (unknown)), parents of Cora Mae Meador(w)s
who was born 1 Aug 1800; other children were Cleo, Mattie, Willie and sons
Charles, Frank and James. Lived in Sprague WV in 1940's. Also
seeking information and relatives of James Flem Meador(s)
(known as "Flem")(m. Louisa Elizabeth Wills
1 Oct 1888 in Summers county)--James Flem was born 1 Sept 1869, died in
1900 from gangrene; Louisa remarried but new husband's name is unknown;
had previously been married to Michael Pack.
At the time of the marriage of "Flem" and Louisa, Louisa had children Sylvanus
Wills and Henry
Pack; Flem and
Louisa were the parents of William Robert Meadows,
Millard Lee Meadows,
Anna Meadows,
Mary (Meadows,
we think--married "Dad" Lilly
and had a number of children)--Mary and "Dad" raised William Robert because
of friction between him and his stepfather (near Beckley).

William Robert "Bob" Meadows
(b. 26 Feb 1892? in Pipestem) was first
married to Virgie Shrewsbury
(26 Aug 1914, Raleigh county), and had
children Frances Irean, Johnny, Harley (d.
1941 in Virginia) and Cabell;
later married Cora Mae Meador
(his first cousin) and had two children
who died in infancy, then William Robert Meadows
Jr. (b. 23 June 1934 in
Prosperity WV, d. 15 Sept 1996 in Gladstone
OR). Bob and Cora were not
married at the time Jr. was born, but were
married when Johnny Bill
Meadows was born
in Sprague, WV 8 Oct 1940. Cora Mae was previously
married to Grover T. McBride
(died in mining accident 8 Jul 1925) and
had daughter Emma Cathern McBride;
second marriage was to Alf Snyder.
We know that Cora and Bob were first cousins,
but we do not know how Ben
P. and James Flem were related--and we don't
know Minerva's maiden
name--

I am researching the BARTON
family of Summers, Monroe and Bedford Counties. James BARTON
came to Monroe from Bedford Co. about 1840 and bought land on Barton's
Ridge in the Forest Hill District, now Summers County WV. He married
Susan MARTIN,
dau of John and Permillia MEADORS MARTIN
in 1819 in Franklin Co. Their children were Willis, Elizabeth, Andrew,
Joel, James, Jr. and Eliza. Have you heard of this family?

I am currently living in Tampa Florida and
am trying to find out some information about my great great grandfather
who supposedly died in Summers County WV on 3/30/1830. I hope I have queried
the right place. My great great grandfather on my mother's side was named
Jim BURR and
also went by Jim BURR ADKINS.
He adopted the name ADKINS when
he came to WV and stayed with the ADKINS
family. This information I have obtained from a distant
relative named Harless ADKINS. While
Mr. ADKINS is
in his 90's he does seem alert and remembers Jim BURR
quite distinctly - he was the one that gave me the
date of death. I assume they lived in the area of Meadow Bridge WV as the
majority of the family that I know of lived in that area. Notes in the
family Bible describe Jim BURR as
a "full blooded injun from Oklahoma". The only other information I have
is he married a Brillie PITSENBARGER.
If you can help me with any additional information or verifying his American
Indian ancestery I would be very appreciative.
